Book Shoppernard back into studio. Kyle is off this week.
And if it's the last Saturday in October, that means
we have college football. We had the NFL, the World
Series started last night. Hockey has been under way for
(01:04):
a while, the NBA started this week.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Other than that and the you have anything to talk
about today.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
And the Union start, yeah, playoffs tomorrow afternoon against Chicago
or I think in Chicago, Yes, Chicago. And other than that,
there's not much happening, other than the fact that the
NBA was about, I don't know, twelve hours into their
season when it blew up on Thursday morning with the
(01:30):
arrest of Terry Rozier, who we knew about was involved in.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
Yes, we were three calendar days into the NBA season, right.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
And Terry Rozier was arrested, Yeah, the second after the
second day, and then Chauncey Pullups, whose name had not surface,
was arrested. Damon Jones was arrested, and it's been kind
of chaotic ever since. We'll discuss that well, obviously he's discussed.
Eagles at Giants tomorrow at one o'clock. Welcome back, Brandon Graham.
(01:57):
Sorry that you're not playing a j Brown Sixers looked
interesting in the debut beat the Celtics, BJ edgeco was
a sensational with thirty four seawn to have that right, Yeah,
thirty four thirty four, which was the most points in
the debut since Mike's all time favorite player, Wilt Chamberlin.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
In nineteen I asked Sean like, who has that record?
And I should have immediately guessed it's probably Will.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
And the guy was always Will. It's always Will.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
The guy was Second was a guy named Frank Selby,
and he was famous for two things.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Mike says he knows one of them. What was that?
Speaker 5 (02:35):
Well, I'm listening to their you know, people talk next
day and he said, well, Will and some guy you'd
never heard of. So I'm like, okay, I get it.
In the nineteen fifties, can't you google it to see
what's like? They made it sound like the guy was me.
Frank Selby scored one hundred points playing for Furman was
it in nineteen still the NC double a record?
Speaker 3 (02:56):
So he did, what Will see? You didn't know you?
That's okay, It's okay. I don't know what the other
one was. I think I do, but I'm not sure.
So he scored one hundred points in a college game.
We time NBA All Star nine season.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
It's not been done at Division IE level. He was
Jerry West's backcourt mate with the Lakers and one of
the years the Lakers had a chance to beat the Celtics,
which they never did until like Magic and Kareem. I
remember this Frank Selby. They're down by one at the buzzer.
Frank Selby had about a fifteen foot or to win
the NBA Championship.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Prove close close Not really, not really. You can see it.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
You can get Sean, you had you check this out.
It's on YouTube. I'm sure just google. It wasn't Jersey,
That's what they all said. Why was Terry West not
taking the shot? But probably the Celtics said anybody but
Jerry West.
Speaker 5 (03:48):
But it was just hilarious to me to hear people
say Wilt and some guy, some no name guy. I'm like, no, no,
just google it. But anytime, this is my theory in life.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Any happened yesterday, you get.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
Your name mentioned with will Wing, Gretzky, pick somebody, Babe,
wod and Brown. Yeah, I don't care legends, that's you know,
says it all.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Anyway, We'll get to the Sixers in a minute.
Speaker 5 (04:14):
And he was on the Warriors then, so it doesn't
it does does not count as a Sixers record.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Sean Bernard will be discussing the Sixers.
Speaker 5 (04:21):
They play game two tonight at Exfinity Lives.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
That sounds where we are these days. That's three Mobile
Center BA Mobile Center. Thank you. Infinity Live is next door.
If that's correct, just call it the X.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
They are favored by five and a half at bed
Parks over the Charlotte Hornets, who.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Are coming off a big win.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
By the way, World Series last night, I don't know
who stayed up, but the Dodgers starting pitching was finally
solved by the Toronto Blue Jays. They had fourteen hits,
which I believe was more than Milwaukee had.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
The entire series would have been more than Phillies had.
In serious good bit.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
They eleven to four last night, and they take a
one nothing lead in Game two is tonight in.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Toronto, where the first pitch will be thrown out by.
Speaker 5 (05:10):
Oh oh, it's either Cado Gaston or the Joe Joe Carter.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
Decito last night, Joe cart did you see the guy?
Thank you?
Speaker 5 (05:18):
Nineteen three Dalton var Show was named after Darren Dalton
because and they showed the picture last night Dalton's catching.
When Joe Carter hits the home run, he was miss
Mitch to a not a very They wouldn't have been
there without Mitch.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
I know, Mitch.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
For a couple of an eagle stat you'll love this
This is courtesy of our buddy Zach Ferman. Since Nick
Sirianni has become the head coach, the Eagles had a
six twenty two winning percentage against teams with winning records.
That is number one in the NFL. Second Kansas City
sixty one five, Third, Buffalo five sixty three. Impressed, But
(05:55):
let's fire him. Yeah, let's get it because he's you know,
they lose a game.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
Said they play the Giants tomorrow at one o'clock.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
The Giants did something nothing's impossible anymore, But that was
really close last Saturday or last Sunday.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
They were down thirty three.
Speaker 5 (06:14):
To nothing, noneteen nineteen to nothing, and they were head
by eighteen points still within six minutes ago.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
And in that period of time in the history of
the NFL, teams that were those records were sixteen hundred
and two and zero. And they managed to give up
thirty three points in the fourth quarter to Denver and
it took the lead with a like thirty seconds left
and lost on a walk off field goal.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
You know why they lost? What what was on a
third and five? The coach called for a pass, yeah,
and a ball and make the other team use their
last time out, and he threw an interception and he
gave that and they had Denver. Good for Denver, but
still still you're right and the guy and by the way,
the guy missed two extra points.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
He did the guy from Rutgers one block and.
Speaker 5 (07:05):
Miss x NFL kicker. He was cut the next step
in a shocking development.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
I'm surprised he wasn't cut that night. You might have been.
They just he might not let him on the plane.
Speaker 5 (07:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
I felt bad for him, but that's life in the
big city. Eagles minus seven against the Giants, So well.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
We'll start with that.
Speaker 5 (07:23):
Uh you want a good stat on that game, I do.
Giants have lost twelve street here in Philly, all right,
twenty thirteen was their last.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
That's a big numb But yes, in the last eight games,
all right, they've covered six of them. Man, there you go.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Look, the Giants are clearly better with the young quarterback.
Nobody's going to argue that. The question is what is
their state of mind after completely blowing the game they
dominated for three and a half quarters. And they did
something similar when Russell Wilson was still the quarterback against Dallas,
where they ended up getting in a forty to forty toime.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
That was more up and down down. They didn't blow
it a nineteen point a million and two.
Speaker 5 (08:04):
What's the state of the Eagles having lost this team
two weeks ago rather embarrassingly?
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Right?
Speaker 5 (08:09):
So my theory last week was, and I think it
came to fruition, it was that the Eagles were fried
going into that Thursday night.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Because of what had happened to Tampa in the heat,
and then what happened here against Tenver in the they.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Got air conditioning indoors again against a bad quarterback and
a kind of confused team. We're fortunate to win, but
did win in Minnesota. No, Aj Brown, is that they're set.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
Indoors in Minnesota. I believe it is. Yes, let's say done.
Oh no, I thought it was, but it is. Somebody
of the trust me.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
It's Minnesota. Remember they played the Super Bowl. Yeah, we
walked the twenty degrees ball as zero as Yeah.
Speaker 5 (08:49):
So what do we think Michael will start with you
Eagles minus seven one o'clock game tomorrow? Well, like I said,
the immediate south field, the immediate reaction, and Aj is
obviously not playing, and the center's not playing, and their
line has been not good and it probably won't get
good because last year was last year and whatever.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
Uh. The immediate reaction.
Speaker 5 (09:10):
Is the Eagles are gonna kill them because of what
happened two weeks ago and what the Giants went through
last week. And that may all be true, but seven
and a half in the NFL and seven okay, it.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
Was seven and a half seven this morning. I would
give the Giants a hard look.
Speaker 5 (09:26):
And I don't like doing that because the Eagles don't lose,
you know, I mean they did two weeks ago, but
two and a half weeks ago whatever it was like
you said, Syriani's teams, they win and you know, and
then they come out last week that was a losable game.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
Sure.
Speaker 5 (09:41):
I mean the Vikings wentz helped because they kicked five
field goals when if they'd scored a touchdown or two,
and then the refs made that call where maybe it
was maybe it wasn't.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
I had a problem with that, Yeah, so did I.
And so they're tight end. I thought it was a catch. Yeah,
but that's the NFL, and that's it's gotten stupid. It
has You're right, No, you're absent. Made a phenomenal play.
Give him a touch. I shouldn't even be reviewed, but
I understand why they do. All moved a little bit.
I don't know, do I care, but I'd one of
two things. I think he's gonna happen.
Speaker 5 (10:09):
The Egles are gonna win this game by three touchdowns ye,
or it's gonna beat the Giants will keep it close.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
Here's where I think it's the big difference between now
and the Thursday game. Again, the Eagles were at the
desperate need of rest at that point. They were beat up.
Their defense is not gonna get abused this time.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Proub is not.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Gonna happen because they've had a week of rest, they
are home. They were they were embarrassed, and they were
they were physically embarrassed against the Giants, and that hasn't
happened to this group in quite a long time.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
So that I think that's a motivation.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Get to six and two half way through the season,
with a buye back end of the schedule coming up,
winnable games all over the place, see how high you
could get in the in the standings, and see if
you can get some home field advantage.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
But look, this team has always built for January. That's
what they're doing. They weren't the number one see last year? Correct?
Speaker 2 (10:59):
I mean you got some they did as a turnout still,
but yeah, I would like the Eagles tomorrow. And with
the proviso that the Giants are better with Jackson Dark
clearly better, but they're still kind of a mess because
they're the Tara mess, Like.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
How can you lose that game? There's no way you
could lose.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
That game if when you're when you're still at the
core of it a bad football team, that's what, right.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
If you start taking knees, you lose the game. It's
like at the end of basketball games. I watched teams
do this all the time.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
They come down. They got a whole shot clock to
fool with. They got like they're up by the jacking
up a three and their jacket.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
But instead of dribble out the shot clock, take a
turnover and set your defense.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
You take bad shots, you give up easy band.
Speaker 5 (11:44):
You know who did that, observed JONTINYI didn't care if
the shot clock ran out, And he would say, like
Darren McKay, Okay, when there's three seconds left, throw something off.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Now, don't actually don't or not out of band because
said and they can set your game Okay, if they
other games in basketball, well that's another stories.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
Don't give up easy bands because John your thoughts on
the game. So I I.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
It was obviously better what the Eagles did against the Vikings.
I'm still not overly overly positive or like everything was
fixed and Eagles are all fine. I still think offensively
they're not blocking well, they can't run the ball, and
a lot of what it was on offense. And the
good thing is Jalen Hurts is a great deep ball
thrower and the Eagles have two really good downfield receivers.
They've been missing on that and they connected on like
(12:31):
every single one of them. So that's like good, that's
a that's a big and that's a big check mark
for them to check off, Like they got that done
that part of their games.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
Both those players were apparently improvised, Yeah they were not.
Like that's that's a good thing.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
Like you want to have a playmaker quarterback, each playmaker
wide receivers, right, just fun. But that's not always going
to be the case, and you still have to do
the other things really well, and they just still aren't
quite there yet. But the problem is that I think
that the Giants are bad and there. I hate to
say they're lucky is about to run out because they
just gave up thirty. But I just don't think they're good,
(13:05):
and I think the Eagles are definitely gonna bounce back
from that.
Speaker 5 (13:07):
Somebody pointed out on one of the many TV shows
that are on in the last I'm gonna get this wrong,
but I'll be close. In the last three games, whatever
Jalen Hurts has ran for like six yards, they don't
do the jailing Hurts running the ball anymore. And I
think it hurt all that much either. But I'm talking
about just place. There were four times a game, not
(13:28):
one hundred times.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
Why they're saving for the playoffs. And that's fine that
you last.
Speaker 5 (13:33):
Yeah, no, no, they don't want him to get hurt,
and that's fine. Don't don't be running. Yeah, this game's
if you lose a game, you lose again.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
I get it. You don't. You don't want the backup
quarterback of the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (13:47):
I mean that's my theory, but sometimes his plays can
be backbreakers gain.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
You know, we've seen that enough for sure. The other
issue I have the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
There were receivers running free against that secondary the whole game.
Carson Wentz. This wasn't good enough. I mean, he had
enough of them because he's still got a great art.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
Their secondary is not that good secondaries, especially when you
don't get a pass rush.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
Right, That's why Brandon Graham came.
Speaker 5 (14:10):
And I don't know, I mean, that's what I think,
Brandon Graham. Part of the reason because apparently they were
talking to him before.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
Sure, part of.
Speaker 5 (14:16):
The reason is because he's Brandon Graham in the locker room.
And I could be overstating that, but I think, but look,
I think.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
The fact that he's had he'll help. He hasn't been
out there getting picked up.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
He'll help. He'll help.
Speaker 5 (14:29):
You can rush the passers until the first time he
gets maybe hit the wrong way. That's fine, but that happens.
All all right, we'll get we'll get through the college
games in a minute, we'll get to all our NFL gas.
But the story of the week was obviously this NBA
betting thing.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
I'll start us off on this a couple of things.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
This is not remotely as bad as the Tim Donagey thing,
not even close. That's when you had a crooked referee
actually fixing games. That was completely different than this. Now,
This is bad. This is a terrible look for the league.
But we already knew about John day Porter, right, he's
all already pled guilty.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
This is not news.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
He's just an idiot, right, You've got in trouble with gamblers,
and they threatened him, and yeah, he's gonna play eight
minutes and you're gonna bet the other That Terry Roseier
thing is. Let is confusing to me because everybody knew
about it, The NBA knew about it.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
This was not news.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
Yet he continued to play, and that nobody's answered the
question yet of why the NBA's investigation didn't find out
what was in this indictment about Yeah, Brian Wyndhorse, that's
confusing to me.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
Basically said that the NBA doesn't have the investigative powers
that like the federal government does, and so like they
they could they could probably guess speculate together something going on,
but couldn't beyond a reasonable doutgo oh, this is definitely happening.
We have to keep him out. It was basically just
wait and see what the government says, and that's what
(15:53):
they said. That's more than reasonable, and you don't want.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
To pass somebody out of the League on speculation.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
But I will say this, that smelled really bad.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, because of the money that was
bet on that. And there's where here's where this whole
prop thing is to these people are so stupid that
are gambling. And I don't think the federal government has
any idea what they're doing either on gambling in general.
So think back since we've had the proliferation, proliferation of
sports gambling, right, it's really gotten big here in the
(16:24):
last couple of years. We're sitting in a sportsbook for
that reason. Do you remember the Alabama baseball coach a
couple of years ago. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it gives He
gives his buddy it's Cincinnati and tip it, you know,
like we're not using our good.
Speaker 5 (16:37):
Guys today against LSU. Tap out on LSU.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
So this idiot brings a bag full of money cash
into a Cincinnati sports book and thinks he's gonna bet
like fifty thousand on LSU in a college baseball game
where the typical action on this game is like fifty cents.
And they immediately say this is insane, We're not taking
your money. They turn them and the coach gets fired.
(17:01):
I mean, what are we doing here, John day Porter,
here were these idiot gamblers that we're saying, all right, Johntay,
you blown money to us, we're gonna get back and
you're gonna play like five minutes and we're gonna bet
the under Well, everybody in the world is gonna notice
that if you're like smart about how you're fixing things,
(17:21):
there are actually.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
Ways to do this that isn't one of them.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Same with Terry Rozi or whatever his culpability is or
is not, will determine that over time, Damon Jones is
just a KNITWI write another hanger on a kind of
a marginal NBA player who is friends with Lebron, who
is now calling his friends again according to the indictment
and is still proven guilty and saying, hey, Lebron's not
(17:46):
gonna play.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
To all yeah, basically like insider and.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
Bet the other side. What are you doing and then
make sure you get something from me again? If the
text messages that were on the indictment are accurate, what
are you doing? Why are you texting anyone about gambling?
Speaker 3 (18:03):
Ever? Are you just a moron?
Speaker 2 (18:05):
So what happens typically in this is somebody in the
middle of this gets beat out of some money, they
get angry and they go.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
Tell somebody in the authorities.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
And then they put a wires app or something on
and you end up with this idiocy and the fixed
poker games. I mean, so they found some rich guys
apparently that were not all that good at poker, it
sounds like, and beat them out of a lot of money,
which apparently they could afford. It sounds like, or they
(18:36):
were the guys that turned them in, because apparently there
was some professional poker players at some of these games
and they were like, well they realized immediately, like this
idiot just drew into an inside straight and beat me
out of like one hundred grand.
Speaker 3 (18:49):
That ain't possible. So I'm interested in more.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
But I will say I don't have a lot of
faith in the federal government doing.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
This right because historically they don't understand gambling.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
Yeah, and but yet, what what are some of these
players doing. They're making these insane amounts of money even
remotely involved.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
In that, Yeah, I guess to me the start of it.
And I think whenever a story like this comes out,
there is i'd say a lot of pushback. But people
are now questioning, like the legality of gambling, the morality
of gambling and all that. So anytime this comes out,
it's just immediate, like see, I told you, see this
is it's a problem, Like this is something that we
need to talk about more. And I get trying to
(19:28):
put gambling through his checks and balances, but I think
it's coming at a place where it's going way too
far and aggressive in that stance, Like what you are
saying is not actually happening in these circus, right, And
these guys, these guys are doing it in plain sight,
which this was usually in the dark. It's being done
in plain sight with plenty of digital paper trails for
(19:50):
people to follow.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
And these guys are getting caught very quickly. Yeah, that's
why legal gambling is so much better than it. Everything
is out in the light, everything is to be seen as.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Soon as all this money showed up when the rosier underprops,
but when the bells went off, like clinging clam back,
like what.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
But also I would like for people to use a
little bit of critical thinking because they're like, oh, it's
ruining the integrity to game, Like no, no, no, no, no no.
The only thing this is doing is people trying to
beat the sports book and cheat. The thing is, sports
books don't like that, and they will do everything they
can to try and make sure you aren't cheating them.
(20:29):
This has nothing to do with integrity of the game
or like people specifically in their bets and what you're
placing in your parlays. These are people trying to beat
the books and they're not looking.
Speaker 5 (20:39):
These are clowns, criminals that aren't good enough, aren't smart
enough to beat the game they're playing, so they're trying
to cheat, as simple as that.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
It's been going on for a million years. It's bad,
But yeah, they caught them. They got them because they're dumb.
Cheaters are mostly stupid. Are there some really sophisticated people
that have gotten away stuff over the years, I have
no doubt at all, But these guys were not sophisticated.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
I mean really, Terry Rozier under props, it was not
going to notice that.
Speaker 5 (21:09):
Mike your thoughts all this, anybody who didn't think this
was going to happen or more will happen or whatever.
When the pro leagues got in bed with this, well,
I don't think that has to do with it.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
Well when ESPN, though, like ten years ago, does that happen.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
No, no, no, what.
Speaker 5 (21:26):
These guys trying to close it's out there now, it's
like ten years ago.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
They won't even run the lines.
Speaker 4 (21:31):
Like the GMA talking about exactly exactly like and now
it's like, okay, it's here.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
There's going to be idiots.
Speaker 5 (21:38):
And now what I thought was interesting was yesterday the
NBA Players Association and yet and I think it was
the Major League Baseball Players Association. I'm sure the NFL
guys will come out at some point are saying, how
are you going to protect the players? And I'd never
even thought of that.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
First they're getting abused. It's happening, guys, but I never
even thought of that.
Speaker 5 (21:57):
Sure, and like this is like a b so how
you so? Okay you're silver? And silver comes I said, oh,
it's really distressing. Okay, well now what are you going
to do? Like, don't tell me it's distressing. I know
it's distressing, and I just don't. Once you get once
a guy like was it Dante Jones, like Jamon Jones
once he owed money to someone, which I think that
(22:18):
was kind of he owed a favorite, he lost money whatever,
then they come to him and say, hey, now now you're.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
Gonna do something that's gonna happen. Yeah, that's been going
on forever about that, exactly correct.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
And Brian win Or has brought this out, and I've
known this, and everybody it's around the NBA has known this.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
The professional athletes in general, they love the gamble.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
I mean, if you come, if you could be on
these charter planes, the amount of money that is.
Speaker 5 (22:40):
Better on Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Allen Iverson. I mean
that's just probably the tip.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
I was gonna say those are the three most notorious,
and Gilbertarinas too, and then that I've been in practice.
I turned to him pulling a gun out of a
locker room, like because no, it's.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
It's a it's a new documentary.
Speaker 5 (22:55):
Called Shooting Guards about him and Javares Greton.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
Yeah, yeah, yes, I remember the ones that got into
it in the Wizard's locker room years ago. It's a
crazy story.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
I mean, it's really a why if you can see it,
I don't know if it's I think it's on Netflix.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
But it's called Shooting Guards. It's it's absolutely wild.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
But yeah, that this this I remember being in a
shoot around years ago.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
And this is a long time ago with Lionel Simmons'
rookie year with a Sacramento kid in nineteen ninety one.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
Yeah, they were playing the I don't know, I don't
know what their nickname was, but Washington at the time.
And I went down the day before and then I
went to the shoot around and l trains telling me
these guys are crazy.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
So what do you mean? Says they want to bet me,
like on a.
Speaker 5 (23:34):
Free throw, like a thousand dollars. You know, It's like, what, yeah,
I mean, but.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
That and that was back then when these guys weren't
even making no kind of money they're making now, so
you can imagine what they're betting now. So the culture
is there, and they're not going to ban prop bets.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
That's not gonna happen because they'll just go off shit.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
I don't think that fixes the problem. It does doesn't
fix it any it.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
Does not really. It just there is no fix to
the problem.
Speaker 5 (23:57):
Right, yeah, oh yeah, I want to do what like
I remembering off John Daly, Right, remember Phil Nicholson talk
about Phil Mickolson owed all this money to somebody, that's
why he got an insider trading deal or something.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Yeah, it's crazy Sean, you're our NBA expert here as
a younger guy, as you're watching this, what did you
think when you heard when you woke up and losing
track Wednesday morning, yeah.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
Day after the six Ers open, or what you think?
Speaker 6 (24:23):
Yeah, I think it's a bummer that this is the
headline stuff when it was an awesome night of basketball,
Victor Weminam a forty points VJ edge Comb an awesome start.
But I mean as far as like the conversation as
a whole, I do agree that a lot of people
have missed the point of like, this is stuff that
has been going on forever, and this is stuff that
is now being caught in a way that or at
a rate that probably was not in the past here.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
So it's a bummer all around for the league.
Speaker 6 (24:46):
I think there's been a little bit of overreaction, and
obviously we're still gonna get more details playing out, so
a big deal. I think the Chauncey Billups angle is
for sure, like the biggest deal out of all of it.
Talks about like him telling guys that we're gonna be
resting players this day and that kind of thing. I
think that one's in a little bit of a different category,
but a nightmare all around.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
Yeah, and you know.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
Look the government again, I'm not thrilled with how they
do things, especially these days.
Speaker 5 (25:10):
But what did they focus on not the mafia guys?
Or maybe I didn't watch the press converence so I could.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
Be wrong about this. Let met me. They did talk
about that.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
What did everybody else focus on the NBA guys not
the New York Mob guys, Which.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
That part was fascinating, more fascinating than me that the
mafia is still organizing things like this, because how do
you get away with you.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
With the way things are now?
Speaker 4 (25:37):
And John, you can't get away with any there's a
phone and a camera everywhere.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
Speaking speaking of Netflix, by the way, there's a three
part documentary on the South Phillip the Mob guys in the.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
Nineties, John, you gotta watch and the Daily News.
Speaker 5 (25:53):
Apparently is the Inquiry and the Daily News. I haven't
seen anything about the way they covered it. Georgia Kitty
cap Russells in the first two episodes, really.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
Not one time. I'm stuck. Nobody was better than curity
governing the.
Speaker 5 (26:05):
Mop and yeah, plane of Stage was pretty good to
George was great. Hey, by the way did anybody think?
But anyway, there's timing on Netflix, a lot of cool
Philly stuff for back. Anybody think the timing of this
now that they've been doing this for two years.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
Of course they did it for maximum talking.
Speaker 5 (26:20):
No, no, but the NBA that's why they did it, Mike.
But that makes you look, I think, like we're trying
to embarrass me.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
Clear clearly. Okay, And then we could get into politics.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (26:32):
There's so many layers and parts to this story, sure,
but I think the immediate one is just like again, people,
people are trying to push back, and I think it's
it's fair to reassess and continue to reassess gambling and
the regulations of it. Not to say it's gonna completely go,
but how do we just make this better? I think
it's fair to have those conversations yea, over and over
(26:52):
and over again.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
Look, that's how that's how things work.
Speaker 4 (26:54):
That's that's how you make things healthy, and that's how
you keep gambling around and healthy for a very long
time if you do.
Speaker 5 (26:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
I look, I think it's great that we now have
legalized sports bad as obviously we're here being.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Sponsored by parks, uh that parks and all that.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
But having said that, it was absurd that the only
place you could bet legally on sports was in Nevada
for years.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
It was just dumb.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
It just didn't make any sense. And doing a lesser
extent Delaware on Park.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
Because of that and how limited it was.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
Sure the underground part of it was more organized, darker,
a lot more criminal, I would say, morally wrong than
what's going on now. Now it's just guys being stupid.
That's really all it is. Again, we have, like it's
well documented some things in the past, I think with
like high school players and all this stuff like gambling
and all these things that were happening in college and
(27:41):
players being paid by the mafia, all this stuff. It's
well documented and everything you see. But now it's like,
it's guys just doing stupid.
Speaker 3 (27:48):
It's ten years from now people ain't gonna be less stupid. Okay.
Speaker 5 (27:52):
Oh, so we consider all we want and say, yeah,
you gotta do this, you gotta do this, you gotta
do that's fine, and then you get twenty billups who
for whatever re in that I don't have the fame
and again allegedly if it's true, if it's true, but
again there's always going to be a guy out there
who who is approachable, and whether it's a player at
Eastern Michigan. Now they're talking about these three basketball players
(28:14):
from last year that won't cooperate. Okay, but what do
I know about Eastern Michigan basketball? That kid at Temple
a couple of years ago that nobody really knew.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
But it's always going.
Speaker 5 (28:25):
To happen and once and there could be a million
players playing college athletics and it all takes is ten of
them best stupid.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
In fact, the damn like it is now legalized has
nothing to do with what just went on. People better
understand that now is Mike John Both said in some
form or another, you know, the problem has always been happening.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
People who don't understand what you understand or which to
me is the federal government for the most part, but
just people. I'm just talking about people.
Speaker 5 (28:52):
The first thing to hear this, Oh my god, the
NBA is going to what's gonna happen to the NBA?
Speaker 3 (28:56):
I don't know that they're going to play. I mean,
what do you want me to tell you? NBC and
Amazon Prime just signed a juge TV deal.
Speaker 5 (29:03):
No, they're going to be putting it on the scroll
sicher's minus three correct.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
They weren't happy. I'm sure they were not thrilled with
the publicity. But you know what, a lot of people
might have tuned into NBA games that didn't NBA and
what's going on, and let's check this, let's check this
deal out. As John spills his coffee.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
There wasn't much left. They were good.
Speaker 5 (29:22):
It was a little spill, minor spillag. All right, we're
gonna take a break.

His coach is now being rumored to be going to Florida.
Of course he's rumored for every job there is. Michae
will start with you sooners really good defense, John Mattier, Yes, no,
he's playing.
Speaker 4 (32:19):
Yes, he's gonna be at what percentage? And you know
how comfortable will you be?
Speaker 2 (32:24):
Through? And Old misplayed great against Georgia last week. They
just couldn't stop to the end in the end. Mike
your thoughts.
Speaker 5 (32:29):
You know, it's funny and I should probably especially in
the NFL. But I actually did really good last week,
and I don't do really good very well, so I
don't know very often whatever, Oh good, very well no,
he did. I'm looking at my picks from last week.
Speaker 3 (32:43):
I did something impossible as week. What you do?
Speaker 2 (32:46):
I got every one o'clock NFL game right, and every
four o'clock game.
Speaker 3 (32:50):
Very impressive this, but thankfully there are more one o'clock
games at four o'clock games. Yeah, I was thinking I
knew something that I found out. I really didn't know that.
Speaker 5 (32:58):
A great thing about sports betting is you get humbled
every time you have like and you're like, hey, I
can't but see, I've been around long enough, John, I
know we've all what's gone. We've all been there. Mike,
what have you got? Oklahoma? Actually I liked Oklahoma early
in the year. I really thought they But.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
Man, I think, don't you have to take the five
and a half in Old Miss?
Speaker 5 (33:16):
I mean, I don't know how the job situation could
he apparently addressed with his team.
Speaker 3 (33:22):
He told the team this happens all the time.
Speaker 5 (33:24):
Their defense leaves you lacking a little bit, and Oklahoma's
got a pretty good defense.
Speaker 3 (33:28):
They do.
Speaker 5 (33:29):
But I'm gonna take the points because it's an SEC game.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
Two good teams.
Speaker 5 (33:35):
Ole Miss coming off a loss.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
He didn't cover in the end. Did they covered the
whole game. They covered like the whole game because I
think that was where it was one of our picks. Yeah,
was a loser in the end. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
Look, this is the classic oh Missus defense reaction stinks
miss defense. Oklahoma's offense, we don't really know what their
story is. So can old Missus offense.
Speaker 5 (33:59):
Score enough to stay under the number against the very
It just seems like a pretty on the road road
the road last week at Georgia probably got beat up
a little bit.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
Yeah, I don't have a strong opinion, but I'm with Mike.
I'll take the points.
Speaker 4 (34:14):
Johnny, Yeah, I'll take the points here as well. I
just don't like the way Oklahoma's offenses looked with John
Mitteer back. And I don't know if it's still the
hand injury or just being out from an injury and
then coming back and not feeling all that comfortable, but
the offense has been lethargic. Even against South Carolina did
look good.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
Ye. So yeah, I like all miss a lot. They're
able to move the ball very well. Jambliss has been
pretty good since coming in for Austin Simmons.
Speaker 4 (34:38):
Uh. Yeah, I just think the attack is much much
stronger for all miss. So I'll go with the Rebels.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
Their next noon game. This spread early in the week,
This game's on ESPA two. South Florida is at Memphis.
It was minus three and a half South Florida early
in the week. It's now six and a half. Something
must have happened with somebody feet last week. They did,
but the spread, the spread knew that early in the week.
It's gone up three, which is a big time. This year,
(35:03):
South Florida is looking to be the team from.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
Getting the playoffs exactly. Group of They've got some good wins,
have a group of five whatever that if.
Speaker 5 (35:12):
They win this game. I don't know what the rest
of their schedule is like, but they the league is the.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
Top of that league. Yes, I don't have Navy coming
up what should be their hardest.
Speaker 5 (35:22):
I don't know what to make of this game because
Memphis didn't did like anybody Memphis get hurt last week.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
I'm starting to think somebody must have for this line
to I don't like laying six on the road.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
It's a big nomer. Memphis is deep, but man, South
Florida is good. Yeah. South Florida's proven against quality opponents.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
The only game they got beat in was in Miami,
but that was after two really great wins for them that.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
Was almost predictable, and winning at Florida. Winning at Florida
doesn't sound as quite a Still, South Florida going to Florida,
that's a big deal.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
I'll take South Florida given the points, because something obviously
is up with Memphis and the John.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
Before you get to the game, does anybody remember these
on beating teams?
Speaker 1 (36:00):
Here?
Speaker 5 (36:00):
We got ahead Ohio State, Indiana and who's numbers?
Speaker 3 (36:07):
Yes? Three more? Three more? Is it like a b
YU doing well so far? I'm very impressed.
Speaker 4 (36:15):
One of the b YU hasn't gotten a lot of
One of them was just mentioned on the show.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
Maybe maybe one more Georgia Tech. There you go. My
gods are impressive. It's an impressive.
Speaker 5 (36:25):
Displayed by my college. Georgia Tech came through for me
last week. They're good. Yeah, they're good.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
John. What you got here? Memphis getting stick? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (36:34):
I don't stay for the quarterback, but I imagine that line
is moving because the quarterback got injured in the last game.
By the way, Chris Mortensen's son was the interim head
coach for U A. B. What an awesome story that was.
And also I don't like Trent dilferd U A B
was immediately much better without him, like they were awesome.
Speaker 2 (36:50):
Yeah, Chris, I mean, could you imagine what if you
were still aliveat.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
Yeah, amazing, it'd be really great.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
But here South Florida, I just think, yeah, with a
banged up Memphis team, especially at quarterback, I think South
Florida is looking like the group of five teams to
probably make that run.
Speaker 5 (37:08):
Who's their competition, delayne right, the teams, I'm pretty sure
it's just American.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
Tavis right right, all the teams probably out.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
They would be the not good I even watched them
last night against Nevada. They they are not good good,
they have a quarterback problem. Attics Madison's not all that great.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Yeah, it's probably whoever wins that league if they what's
UNLV doing.
Speaker 5 (37:33):
They got hammered by boys last week? Yeah, oh that
was okay. I know they were doing well.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
We're undefeated. They they went through the blue turf didn't
work out. So right now it's just looking like South Florida.
Speaker 5 (37:45):
So basically, whoever wins the American probably has a good chance.
Speaker 4 (37:49):
They would be the most likely Telaane is up there,
Navy is up there.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
And so their title game could maybe be for a spot.
That's correct. Wow, that's cool.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
Also on Fox, Indiana minus twenty six.
Speaker 3 (38:03):
Over got to play Ucla.
Speaker 5 (38:05):
Used to be twenty four and a half, spin up
a point and a half over fifty three and a
half because Indiana probably is gonna put up high thirties
into the forties. I'm just guessing. And USL he's been
playing better. They won three in a row and the
quarterback looks decent.
Speaker 6 (38:20):
He does.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
I would take the over.
Speaker 2 (38:22):
Yeah, I mean I thought, uh, Kurtznetti made the right point,
like we're playing three and oh Ucla nothing.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
For He's absolutely right. It's a way better, different, way
better team than before.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
But having said that, Indiana is like way better, and
I would get on CNN Sports dot com.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
I'm gonna tell a story to everybody.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
Our good friend Dan O'Neil is left Villanova and is
now working for CANNN Sports and wrote a great.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
Story yesterday about Indiana football.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
She also wrote two great stories this week about the
NBA gambling.
Speaker 3 (38:54):
She just started. On Monday.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
I texted her, asked, I said, nice, easy week you had,
but Yeah, anyway, get on Sanda's sports. She's now, it's
such a cool job. Then I get that somebody texted
her or no, the editor texted her a couple of
weeks ago, says, look, I'm looking at the February schedule.
What would you like to cover the super Bowl or
the Winter Olympics. That's the job she's walked into. She's
gonna cover all the big up. Where's the Winter Olympics
(39:17):
this year?
Speaker 3 (39:17):
Italy?
Speaker 5 (39:18):
I'm going for Italy? She went, Yeah, I mean she's been. No,
I'm just saying there, there'll be a super Bowl next year.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
He's been.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
That was exactly what she said. She's been to the super.
Speaker 2 (39:29):
Bowls, your Vegas super Bowls in Santa Claus to Italy.
Speaker 3 (39:35):
Mike, one more thing about Indiana.
Speaker 5 (39:37):
Yeah, Signetti's and I know they're due for like a
bad week where they never have, they never have. Signetti's
the kind of guy he'll sit there and say, you
know what people were talking about ULA now, like this
is a game for us, Like let's stomp him. And
I could see him putting up a big number because
defense ain't great.
Speaker 4 (39:54):
It could happen because yeah, UCLA's defense is where I
would get concerned is that they would give up way
too many points Indiana.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
Indiana is RAND number two in the country.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
This is one of the most amazing stories and that
was data story, not just in college football, but in sports.
Indiana football is a joke. They have more losses than
any power team in nineteen sixty seven Roseball sixty seven
was the last time they won a big ten.
Speaker 5 (40:17):
Might be the only time they wanted to probably, yeah, probably,
maybe go back a million years played.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
Oj yeah, it got crushed by USC in the Rose Bowl.
I'm giving the twenty six. I'm sick of UCLA. Get
him out of here. This is not basketball.
Speaker 5 (40:32):
But would you agree though that the over if you're
taking it because you're you think you're telling me, I
think Indiana's defense is really good, but you think Indiana's
going to score forty?
Speaker 3 (40:40):
I do.
Speaker 5 (40:41):
Okay, I'll take a chance at you say, what's the
over under? Fifty three? Yeah, forty to ten. Okay, I
won't cover.
Speaker 4 (40:48):
I'm going to be so wrong in this, but I
think this number is pretty big. And Nico Nico is
where I've been really imposed play. He's an NFL quality
quarterback and finally, an offense that's giving him the chance
to be there. Sure, and they've been running the ball
out better too, that's all. So it's a balanced attack.
I do worry about their defense, but I think they
(41:09):
score enough points to keep within that twenty six I think,
what is it, twenty six and a half? Yeah, I
think they score enough, but it's it's gonna be close.
I know Indiana has a chance to really run them
out of this game quickly.
Speaker 3 (41:19):
My concern with.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
UCLA would be they they couldn't score against Maryland last week.
They were very fortunate to win the game. And that's
three games in a row. Maryland's at the lead to
the fourth quarter, not that I'm bitter at all, and.
Speaker 3 (41:29):
They lost all three. They lost all three.
Speaker 2 (41:31):
And this time, I mean they had another wide open
rech just whatever.
Speaker 5 (41:35):
I can't even get it to it. It's a sad
state of affairs.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
ESPN Game Day is at Nashville to Vanderbilt minus two
and a half at home against Missouri.
Speaker 5 (41:46):
There's a good stat for you, Mike. What was the
last time Vanderbilt was six and one.
Speaker 3 (41:52):
With the former Penn State coach? That incorrect?
Speaker 7 (41:56):
Okay, boy, I nineteen fifty Gosh, Georgia Tech last time
seven and zero nineteen sixty six.
Speaker 3 (42:07):
There's some an Indiana ranked number two. Never there's probably
a couple more. If we really have an incredible college
football it's Texas, A and M might not have me.
It's been this late in the year and in a while,
So what are we like?
Speaker 1 (42:18):
Man?
Speaker 2 (42:18):
This was minus three this morning, bet Parks minus two
and a half.
Speaker 5 (42:21):
I'm telling you, both teams are terrific. Stories Vanderbilt I
could go home. I have been on Vanderbilt. I'm going
to stay on Vanderbilt. I think Missouri could win this game.
I mean, they're that good. The SEC is guy, I
could just watch SEC games, like.
Speaker 3 (42:35):
All the SEC this year.
Speaker 2 (42:37):
There's like eight teams that could make the playoffs if
they had a chance.
Speaker 5 (42:41):
They think is like South Flow. Let's say South Florida
gets into the playoffs for whatever reason. There's probably seven
SEC teams that are better than South Florida.
Speaker 3 (42:48):
But that's okay, that's the league. You're playing Florida.
Speaker 5 (42:52):
But I'm going to ride Vandy and I know they're
probably due to lose a game at some point. I
know they lost to Alabama in the game they probably
should have over it actually really well score with like
twenty seconds to go, Bama squore a touchdown.
Speaker 3 (43:05):
I'm gonna go Van. Yeah, me too, Mike.
Speaker 2 (43:06):
I've been more impressed watching them than Missouri.
Speaker 3 (43:09):
And I'm not unimpressed with Missouri, but I look good.
I love what Vanderbilt did to LSU.
Speaker 2 (43:14):
They were clearly the better team in that game, and
I loved how they played. They basically beat up LSU.
And might Mike send Brian Kelly right out of Batono.
Speaker 5 (43:24):
And that place should be I've never been to a
game at Vanderbilt.
Speaker 3 (43:28):
I'm guessing that place today is that college game Day?
Is that there there? Oh, well, that place will be nuts.
Speaker 2 (43:34):
They are in Nashville, which I assume they've never I
don't know that they've ever been there before.
Speaker 3 (43:37):
I can't imagine. Maybe they weren't when James Frankman was
there and doing it. I don't know. Well, I don't know, John,
you gotta.
Speaker 4 (43:44):
Uh yeah, I'm going Vandy in this one as well.
This is not a scrappy team with a scrappy quarterback.
And oh my gosh, Vanderbilt's doing good. This is Oh,
this is a really good college football team. Both teams
have good quarterbacks, right, Yeah, good quarterback both Pribula. Definitely,
passing the ball has been a little bit more shaky.
He's he's turned the ball over a lot more. He
has eleven touchdown seven interceptions, So yeah, I don't think
(44:05):
it's a little bit shaky with the passing game. They
still won the ball really well, so that's where they
can win this game. But Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt again is just
too good. I think they're legitimately they're a top ten
college football team. Yeah, they're playing like it, and I
think they do it here. So yeah, I'll I'll take
Bandy on it charts.
Speaker 2 (44:20):
Yeah, three thirty ESPN, also three thirty ABC in Columbia,
South Carolina Alabama. This started at thirteen and a half
is now minus eleven and a half over South Carolina,
which has to be one of the.
Speaker 5 (44:32):
Most disappointing teams. I give you, dude, number stacket coach
at Alabama. I believe I might be fifteen to two
against ranked opponents.
Speaker 3 (44:42):
It's like the best record of any guy who's coached
like more than ten games to James Franklin is a
double digit favorite. Right. His record is pathetic.
Speaker 5 (44:52):
It's like one in four and he's lost forty games
out run.
Speaker 3 (44:57):
I'm just thrown at their double.
Speaker 2 (44:58):
Did you favorite today here giving those two polar opposites, Yes,
he's great against rand opponents.
Speaker 3 (45:06):
I'm taking to South Carolina.
Speaker 5 (45:08):
I just think Alabama is due for a game where
they just don't look great.
Speaker 3 (45:12):
Yeah, let's just come back to the points.
Speaker 2 (45:13):
I don't really know why South Carolina is a bad
I know they lost a lot of linemen and.
Speaker 3 (45:17):
Stuff from the last year. Quarterback hasn't played well. I
thought he was going to be a Johnny you got
a thought on this one.
Speaker 4 (45:27):
I think South Carolina instinctively, you know, just betting instincts
the right play. But this is happening over and over
again with Alabama, where we're trying to do this thing. Well,
is this the right time? Is this the time they
finally lose this one? And I'm not saying that they
can't and especially not cover, but I think what's kind
of killing a lot of these bets for people through
the weeks is ty Simpson has been the most consistent.
Speaker 3 (45:49):
But we've been taking Alabama a lot. Yes, I know,
I know.
Speaker 4 (45:52):
I three of them, I think pretty much the three
of us, and I think it's happening again where it's like, Okay,
this is the spot for Alabama finally, and it could
be I'm not betting do you know what? I'm betting
Alabama just because again I think this is a little
bit different where Ty Simpson has been the most consistent
best college quarterback on a week to week basis, and
if that's the case, they should have no problem to
(46:13):
know what.
Speaker 5 (46:14):
That Bama has done their last four games something nobody
in SEC history has ever done. Four ranked opponents without
a week off. Never happened before in the history of
the SCCI.
Speaker 3 (46:24):
That's incredible, that's in. That's nuts. Alabama is playing the
Florida State beat them. Who knows.
Speaker 2 (46:30):
Alabama's playing like one of the four or five best
teams in the country, maybe the best team. They're playing great.
South Carolina is playing bad. Let's try to not over
complicate the situation. I'll give the eleven and a half.
I'll take Alabama.
Speaker 4 (46:42):
South Carolina their last two games ten points against LSU
seventh week as there's.
Speaker 3 (46:47):
No reason to take South Carolina. That's the only right.
And again the spot just says takes South Carolina.
Speaker 5 (46:53):
Might bamam might torture them. This might be like a
thirty five to seven games.
Speaker 3 (46:57):
This is the spot and everything makes sense.
Speaker 4 (46:59):
It's just the only differences that the consistency has just
been too great with They don't.
Speaker 5 (47:03):
Want to fire him anymore, like at Alabama, right, they're
okay with him.
Speaker 4 (47:07):
Yeah, I think they're very happy Alabama. Ty Simpson might
be the number one overall traffic.
Speaker 3 (47:12):
Alabama is Bob Bafford. And the derby with.
Speaker 5 (47:14):
The favorite, I thought that was Ohio State three third Fox.
Speaker 2 (47:21):
B Yu undefeated at Iowa State getting two and a half.
Speaker 3 (47:27):
They are a dog. They're a road dog. This was three.
Now it's minus two and it's the favorite in Ames or.
Speaker 5 (47:35):
They will be crazed, welcoming and undefeated by State.
Speaker 3 (47:41):
It's been a little bit of a disappointment.
Speaker 4 (47:42):
Yeah, last two games especially, they've lost to Cincinnati and Colorado.
Speaker 3 (47:47):
This is a team that you know said the first
about why about b Yu.
Speaker 2 (47:51):
B Yu's quarterback left because he was going to get
suspended for a code violation out there and.
Speaker 4 (47:57):
He's now in Tulane, right, and now they're both teams
are playing great. Yeah, both teams are so BYU is
coming off of a very emotional in it is Yeah,
the Holy Wargans Utah really good win for by up.
The spot here just screams everything. The numbers screams everything
of Iowa State. I'm just gonna stick with that. It's
not been great, but they can really grind out games,
(48:18):
and especially ones like this, just because I think Rockobeck
is pretty good. So I'm gonna take Iowa State again.
It's mostly just the spot of it. Iowa States do
for a bounce back. The last two games they've been
on the road. They're now back at home, so I'm
taking the Cyclones.
Speaker 3 (48:32):
Mike.
Speaker 5 (48:32):
In the last few weeks, I've never seen more ranked
teams be underdogs.
Speaker 3 (48:38):
It's amazing. And I don't know what that means. I mean,
like John says, what.
Speaker 5 (48:42):
They lose, the idiots will say it was an upset.
I'm gonna go with John and a points break. The
line is just telling you to take Iowa State. And
I don't know if that's the right player or not,
but if I was going to play it and I
don't like the game, that's the way I would go.
Speaker 2 (48:54):
One team's playing well, one team's playing poorly. I'll take
the team playing well. Give me break up, yas Uh
seven point thirty ABC.
Speaker 3 (49:03):
This is a rarity.
Speaker 2 (49:05):
Texas A and M road favorite in Bathorn Rouge minus
two and a half. Undefeated Texas A and M against
reeling l s U.
Speaker 5 (49:15):
My most important game that Chip Kelly has coached at LSU.
I'm sorry, Chip, Chip pro They're all I mean, if
he loses this game, it could be gone in the morning.
I don't know if I'd go that far because they
have three losses. To be close, well, I think they're
(49:37):
going to see if he can make the college football playoffs,
which if he loses this game he probably can't.
Speaker 3 (49:41):
He can't, he's out.
Speaker 5 (49:42):
Well, there would be three losses, right, somebody with three
losses going to get him. But you're right, it probably
won't be Texas A and M.
Speaker 3 (49:49):
Has been really good. They wont it. Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (49:53):
They have one of the that's probably the best road
win of any Yeah, maybe Alabama Georgia's and then.
Speaker 3 (49:59):
I mean, it was funny.
Speaker 5 (50:00):
I had lunch with Bernard Fernandez or LSU guy who
and we were talking about. But again, like on paper,
A and M's to play. It's a Saturday night in
Baton Rouge. Traditionally, you don't want to be here to
stadium will be shaking.
Speaker 3 (50:14):
If Chris Fallard heard, what if.
Speaker 5 (50:16):
Texas A and M's up ten to nothing in the
second period, those people are gonna turn.
Speaker 3 (50:19):
Absolutely I'm going to do something totally stupid.
Speaker 5 (50:22):
I'm gonna take the Brian Kelly's getting the two and
a half for no other reason. Then it's LSU at night. Yeah,
and they gotta win. I think LSU is not very good,
are you right?
Speaker 3 (50:33):
Is good? I'm taking the better team, John.
Speaker 4 (50:36):
Yeah, I mean text A and M is the better team.
And I LSU's offense is really their biggest problem.
Speaker 3 (50:41):
They just do quarterback. Yeah, he's been so wildly and consistent.
Speaker 4 (50:45):
They do all the little things wrong on offense, and
I usually hate that, but in a game like this,
this is where also Texas and them kind of plays
to that level where they start to make mistakes do
some little things in this environment, I don't love it,
and I'm kind of like win as I take it.
Speaker 3 (51:00):
But I'm going I'm going Tiger. That's fine.
Speaker 5 (51:03):
He took the best team in two games that he's
probably at least once three point thirty ESBN plus the
Team of the Year Temple minus five and a half
at Tulsa seven and oh against the spread for the
Mighty Mighty Owls.
Speaker 3 (51:18):
I'm taking the als. I've seen enough.
Speaker 4 (51:20):
Yeah, I was gonna ask this homer own. I don't
even know if it matters Tulsa. Tulsa stinks.
Speaker 5 (51:25):
Temple was not usually a road favorite. I think they
were actually a couple of weeks ago that team stunk Charlotte,
Charlotte Charlotte and UMass that that would be a tremendous
game to have that game Temple.
Speaker 3 (51:42):
I'm I'm riding the all until they lose. I bet
my man could go eight and oh against the spread.
Speaker 5 (51:47):
They could go eleven, he could go twelve and oh
against Akuler Coach of the Year, and they got some
tough games coming up.
Speaker 4 (51:53):
Heeler has done amazing. So this is a game. Maybe
be cautious a little bit. H Absolutely, there's no we
even saw this.
Speaker 3 (52:01):
Last night.
Speaker 4 (52:02):
Virginia Tech beat cal last night. Virginia Tech so awful.
They've only won two games, and so Virginia Tech was
a close game.
Speaker 3 (52:09):
It's still Cow's been. It's the same.
Speaker 4 (52:12):
I feel like the situation is very similar to Temple
in Tulsa. Like Temple's playing a little bit better. Usually
what they are so is cal We'll get carried away
with there's no doubt, yeah, I think. But they're seven
and know John and this spread is moved, by the
way from six and a half to four and a half.
Speaker 3 (52:25):
So there's a lot of things to be cautious laying
four and a half. Hang on a second. I had
five and a half this morning, it's now four and
a half. I think. I keep seeing it go down.
Speaker 5 (52:35):
You know what it is, Damon Jones is betting, is
betting Tulsa.
Speaker 4 (52:42):
I recently have watched a Tulsa game because their last
game was against the East Carolina Pirates. Their defense is
not good and all the things EACU does well deep down.
Speaker 3 (52:52):
The Temples.
Speaker 4 (52:54):
Quarterback is so efficient and they're gonna think they're gonna
throw the ball over that secondary. So cautious about it,
but I'm going out. And one thing too. Are the
two highest graded defensive lines in the American East Carolina
and Temple.
Speaker 3 (53:05):
There they have been really good two weeks. Yes, I
think it's gonna be and you might we might have
to go seven point thirty.
Speaker 2 (53:14):
NBC got themselves a stinker tonight. Michigan minus fourteen at
Michigan State, which is.
Speaker 3 (53:19):
Just Michigan State.
Speaker 2 (53:22):
This is Michigan State's big rival, of course, but not Michigan's.
Speaker 3 (53:25):
Michigan doesn't care a little bit.
Speaker 5 (53:28):
I'm going to take the underdog because of the reason
they just said. There's no look, I've been really doing
well on Michigan because I had him getting beat at
USC a couple weeks. I just think Michigan doesn't care.
I agree with what and I think a Michigan State
has played them well.
Speaker 3 (53:44):
Like Michigan State. They stink.
Speaker 5 (53:48):
That's why I'm taking them, because they stink.
Speaker 3 (53:51):
I don't know why they're this bad. I like the Coast.
Speaker 5 (53:53):
Because they did that guy ninety million dollars three years
ago when he lasted two cares.
Speaker 4 (53:58):
Last well, they've also been their last three of their
last four games have been on the road, too, so
they've had a brutal so they have n il Michigan
State is that. I'm sure after all this stuff that
happened with the last coach. They've been scrambling a lot,
but their defense in the last four games have given
up forty five thirty.
Speaker 3 (54:17):
Eight thirty eight thirty eight fours. They're giving up their
record like one and five. They're three and four, but
they're own four. There's no reason to take the Sparty.
Speaker 5 (54:25):
That's why I am yeah, just take the better team,
just take the I'm not.
Speaker 3 (54:30):
I'm not.
Speaker 4 (54:31):
There's there's a part of me that wants to take Sparty.
But you have bad defense, had bad offense, So I
don't like.
Speaker 3 (54:38):
I don't like any of that. There is all of that.
But their kicking games could all right.
Speaker 5 (54:42):
NFL spreads coming up, they can win the field position battle.
Speaker 3 (54:46):
Also, Sixers play game two tonight.
Speaker 2 (54:49):
We'll get Shan Bernard involved, and that they are minus
five and a half against the two undefeated teams Sixers
and Hornets.
Speaker 3 (54:58):
I should best some Joe overs tonight.
Speaker 2 (55:00):
That might beat a way to go. They might be low.
I like that World Series. By the way, after the
opening game, Dodgers are now minus one twenty four to
win at Toronto's even money plus one hundred.
Speaker 3 (55:12):
They were plus two fifty. So if Toronto wins tonight,
going to be the favorite, but by how by how
much at that point would it be?
Speaker 4 (55:20):
I would also minus one forty kind to kind of
hammer home the point of this, Charlotte is bad at
football thing. Uh North Texas played Charlotte last night. The
quarterback had an American single record, a single game record
for passing yards with six hundred and eight BBAs the
fifty four to twenty is.
Speaker 5 (55:37):
That, by the way for anybody, I'm just going through
some Charlotte. So the IVY League is a Friday night game.
Speaker 3 (55:43):
There's there's no by the way I'm trying to get.
I'm sorry, Dartmouth is playing Columbia. It just doesn't pay.
But Dartmou's playing Columbia.
Speaker 5 (55:49):
There's forty nine to nothing at half, and Dartmouth coach
just said, no, Moss, he just said, that's it, We're
not playing. The final was forty nine to three.
Speaker 3 (55:57):
Who had the forty nine? Dartmouth? You kicked a fuel
goal with like four minutes ago? Was it like kneeling
with about three minutes like Kansas City did last week?
God bless the Dartmouth coach. That's all I got to say.

Speaker 5 (58:07):
We've already given our picks on the Eagles. I took
the Eagles. What did you dig?
Speaker 3 (58:10):
John? I don't remember anymore? Did you have an actual selection?
I did not have an actual selection, but I will
take the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (58:18):
Mike Giants, Giants plus the seven one o'clock Cincinnati now
up to six and a half against the sad Sack
and why Jets, Mike?
Speaker 3 (58:30):
Are you gonna do it? Again. You're gonna take the
Jets two weeks in our own.
Speaker 5 (58:34):
You know, their quarterback situation is really weird because now Tyrod's.
Speaker 2 (58:39):
Hurt, the coach has lost his mind.
Speaker 5 (58:43):
I mean, I love the fact that Cincinnati's playing this
forty one year old quarterback that they trade it for.
Speaker 3 (58:48):
Yep, you know what.
Speaker 5 (58:49):
I'm gonna hate myself, but I'm gonna take Cincinnati. I
think this They've had an extra three or four days off,
right because they played on a Thursday. I just think
he's going to throw like three or four touchdowns. The
Jets are just Cincinnati's defense thinks too.
Speaker 3 (59:03):
Does The coach is just apparently losing.
Speaker 2 (59:06):
I feel bad for him because he's brought a lot
of this on himself, but he's acting stupid at press conferences.
Speaker 3 (59:12):
Now. I'm not going to tell you the starting quarterback
is because you go on, it's the Jets.
Speaker 2 (59:18):
That's my point. That's all spread is going up. I
don't care.
Speaker 3 (59:22):
They could cover to seven.
Speaker 2 (59:23):
They could, but I'm not taking I'm going to take
this win a game sometime. They got a shout it,
oh in seventeen, I'm taking Cincinnati, chib.
Speaker 4 (59:32):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (59:32):
I hate that. I'm going to do this. But in no.
Speaker 4 (59:36):
World should Cincinnati be favored. Cincinnati be favored by six
and a half. You're right against you are absolutely. Sati
is much closer to that, but they beat Pittsburgh, so
I get it's like a whole big thing. But Cincinnati
is much closer than New York. In the argust like,
he's right, We're wrong, He's right.
Speaker 2 (59:53):
Here's here's what Cincinnati has going for him, an addition
to who they're playing, which is the most important thing.
Speaker 5 (59:59):
Man, Man, you can make a case the best wide
receiver in football that always yeah, and they.
Speaker 4 (01:00:05):
Have another really good Joe Flacco figured that out quick.
He's like, Oh, I could just throw to this guy, right,
just be smart, just throw it to Jamar Chase.
Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
That's somebody that doesn't throw interceptions every other piss u.
Speaker 4 (01:00:18):
Joe Flacco does do that, though, which is why I'm
taking the Jets because their defense has been good for
there in the past two weeks.
Speaker 3 (01:00:24):
Understood, there's no watching that.
Speaker 2 (01:00:26):
No overseas games this week, but there are two more
coming one in Madrid, one in Berlin, but not this week.
Baltimore desperate need when Lamar Jackson apparently is coming back.
Minus seven at home against the resurgent Chicago Bears.
Speaker 4 (01:00:43):
Johnny, I think Lamar is going to be back. Seven
and a half seems like a really big number for
teams that are going in opposite directions.
Speaker 3 (01:00:51):
It seems like I got seven at bed Parks, But oh,
I'll take that.
Speaker 4 (01:00:55):
Maybe get six and a half on a Sunday morning, Yeah, maybe,
but I'm knowing I'm going Baltimore. Chicago has been very
reliant on turnovers and their defense, and I don't know
if that's gonna happen if Lamar Jackson's playing.
Speaker 3 (01:01:09):
I'm gonna give you a number. Chicago has covered four straight.
Speaker 5 (01:01:12):
It's their longest streets since twenty eighteen, when they covered
five street.
Speaker 3 (01:01:15):
It's amazing. What coaching well do.
Speaker 5 (01:01:17):
I am taking the Bears. I love Lamar. I love
what the Ravens could do with their schedule coming up.
Oh my god, they shouldn't be given seven points to
a team that's playing.
Speaker 3 (01:01:27):
Okay, Yeah, I'm with Mike.
Speaker 2 (01:01:28):
I'm taking the Bears plus the seven on the theory
that even if Lamar is back and I don't have
any trouble with him being great, their defense still Stetch
defense is a.
Speaker 3 (01:01:36):
Problem and he hasn't played in three weeks. I mean,
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:01:39):
Know, like their defense their bad, and the Bears can score.
Speaker 3 (01:01:44):
But they took all their toys away in the locker room.
Speaker 5 (01:01:47):
John, I think John Harboll is starting to maybe like
lose it a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:01:52):
I did you take the toys away last year when
they were when they were whatever they were.
Speaker 4 (01:01:56):
I certainly think there's there should be conversations about Harball
like it's it might be time it's run its course,
just needs a different voice in that locker room.
Speaker 3 (01:02:03):
Give me the varis plus.
Speaker 5 (01:02:04):
Yeah, I just don't I like the way to wear
it wins the game. They're going to be back to
five hundred and a couple weeks as they played. Absolutely
directed still have a chance. It's one to five, and
usually the odds would say they have any play.
Speaker 3 (01:02:17):
They haven't played Pittsburgh. Yeah, they got them.
Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
They can still make the playoffs, and they can still
win the Vision Atlanta at home minus seven and a
half over Miami, who's coaches somehow still coaching. Uh John,
I really want Miami to lose so Miami can fire
Mike McDaniel and the Eagles can pick him up. But
I don't know if I have too much faith in
(01:02:42):
Atlanta because they seem pretty inconsistent. The only one that's
really great is Jean Robinson has been kind of fantastic
for them.
Speaker 3 (01:02:49):
But their offense no shows. The other quarterback could be Kirk.
Speaker 4 (01:02:53):
Really yeah, I think I think they did say Michael
Pennocks is slateest. I think Peedicks even said I'm gonna start,
but who knows what the knee And then also again
just the offense no shows. So I'm a little bit
cautious about it. And seven and a half seems like
a lot. So I'm I'm gonna it's bad, but I'm
going Miami.
Speaker 5 (01:03:11):
No opinion on the scalle I I know Miami stinks.
And if I was Atlanta and my quarterback had whatever,
I wouldn't play him. I'd play the other guy because
you're gonna win the game. You're not going to lose
to the Dolphins. You might only win by three, might
not win by seven and a half. But now the
Dolphins are eight. They're in a dump five dumpster fire.
Speaker 3 (01:03:30):
Yeah, they're a mess. They're not good.
Speaker 5 (01:03:32):
Uh, Buffalo was minus seven and a half at Carolina,
now minus seven.
Speaker 2 (01:03:38):
I'm taking the home team they're playing. Well, what's Bryce
Young's status?
Speaker 3 (01:03:43):
Do we know? Is he playing? Not playing? He's out?
Yeah that yeah, he's out. And Andy Dalton.
Speaker 5 (01:03:49):
Look, Buffalo's defense is bad. Buffalo was overrated to start
the season.
Speaker 3 (01:03:55):
They do have a week guy's injured. I mean, they
do have a lot of guy guys that are hurt.
Speaker 2 (01:03:59):
Carolina is better. They're competitive, they're at home. They're getting
a touchdown against the team with a bad defense.
Speaker 5 (01:04:05):
Mike, Okay, the over owners fifty and a half, big
nom seven. The Panthers are seventeen and seven overs in
their last twenty four. The Bills are fifteen and eight.
Speaker 3 (01:04:17):
So you're telling me you're taking it.
Speaker 5 (01:04:18):
I'm telling you to do. I would look favorably the
over man. Okay, And you're telling me the Bill's defenses.
Speaker 3 (01:04:26):
And they're not very good. Hell, they're not They're not good.
Speaker 4 (01:04:28):
Uh, John, I think this is going to be a
more aggressive Josh Allen. Buffalo is kind of yasty backs again,
we already has to be it's backs against the wall.
They just lost their last two. The Patriots are starting
to maybe look like the better team in that division.
I think Josh Allen has been good, but a little
bit more conservative and trying.
Speaker 3 (01:04:47):
To I think, just yeah, it's making turn the ball over.
Speaker 4 (01:04:51):
I just think you starting to see Josh Allen get
hyper aggressive, and I think they win this one like
thirty one seventeen.
Speaker 3 (01:04:56):
So I'm going Buffalo. This spread surprises me a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:05:00):
Houston at home minus two now at bet Parks against
San Francisco. I'm I'm taking San Francisco. I was actually
surprised San Francisco wasn't favorite of this game.
Speaker 3 (01:05:11):
You won a number. It's gone up for it's going
up from point and a half.
Speaker 5 (01:05:14):
Houston and San Francisco one in fours road Dog's last
two seasons.
Speaker 3 (01:05:20):
I don't know. Look, that could be a different personnel
I have. That means nothing to me.
Speaker 5 (01:05:25):
I know you, I know that, and again, but it's
just an irrelevant but sometimes irrelevant completely.
Speaker 3 (01:05:31):
Oh that's whatever. I don't like the game. I like
San Francisco.
Speaker 5 (01:05:35):
I think that coach is doing a tremendous job this
year with all they've lost. And I'm not a Houston
Percy Houston two years ago, this guy was like the
greatest coach, he was the greatest quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:05:48):
And like, what have we seen Cincinna. Why that made
the playoffs last year?
Speaker 5 (01:05:52):
No, no, don't think you're right competitive. But people had
them be like a Super Bowl contender, not a Super
Bowl anything good ones. They don't protect the quarterback. That's
the Biggas problem.
Speaker 3 (01:06:03):
That's a problem. John, you got a thought on this game.
I'm going to go with Houston just because Houston's defense
I didn't take. But what is okay? San Francisco's defense
is okay, I'll go with John. I'll go with Houston's.
Speaker 4 (01:06:21):
Once you see a little bit of protection, then you
start to see kind of the CJ.
Speaker 3 (01:06:24):
Stroud. And this is the thing that people don't get.
It's like, oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (01:06:27):
C J.
Speaker 4 (01:06:27):
Stroud looks much more erratic, and he's his process is
just like not as good as it was when he
was a rookie. Like that's what happens when you have
guys at your feet and your.
Speaker 3 (01:06:37):
Quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 5 (01:06:39):
If Matt Stafford gets rushed thirty times, he ain't gonna
look like Matt Stafford.
Speaker 4 (01:06:44):
Right, But that's just like if it happens for one game,
Matthew Stafford isn't gonna take it to the next And
I don't think c J. Stroud was going one game
and taken to the next. This is an accumulation of
like almost an entire season and a half now of
getting absolutely crunched, crushed, folded for an entire season.
Speaker 3 (01:07:01):
It's gonna have an effect on you. You're You're taking Houston.
Speaker 4 (01:07:04):
Yeah yeah, after all that, because still once there is
sometimes it does have to make sense. Once there is
some sort of protect there is a c J. Stroude,
but still rare. Remember I'm gonna Archie Manning.
Speaker 5 (01:07:17):
Jim Plunkett went to teams where they physically got annihily.
Archie Manning was one, and he never got to a
different team where he could do that. Jim Plunkett finally
got to the Raiders and won two Super Bowls.
Speaker 3 (01:07:29):
It's amazing what happens when you get it with a
good team.
Speaker 2 (01:07:31):
Uh final one o'clock game probably the team that has
just been kind of amazing. Just shows you what happens
when you change a coach and have a young quarterback.
New England minus seven. This was so predictable against Cleveland.
Cleveland played really well last week against Miami. Cleveland's a
well coached team that just it's a clown show at
the top. Uh, Dylan Gabriel. You still hate Dylan Gabriel
(01:07:54):
after last week? Does that game count for you, John,
because they beat Miami?
Speaker 3 (01:07:58):
Is that not?
Speaker 7 (01:07:58):
Really?
Speaker 2 (01:07:59):
That does not count your thoughts on this game? New
England minus seven at home against the Browns.
Speaker 3 (01:08:04):
That should be higher.
Speaker 4 (01:08:06):
I think we're giving giving some respect to New England now,
and everybody's talking about New England. But Cleveland can't move
the ball at all, Like, I just don't. I don't
think Dylan Gabriel is good enough. He still doesn't pass
the ball downfield anything over ten yards. It looks like he's, uh,
he's pushing the ball too hard and it's wildly erratic.
Speaker 3 (01:08:25):
I don't like it.
Speaker 4 (01:08:26):
This is more of a team that the last three
games before the Miami one where they only score nine
to seventeen ten.
Speaker 3 (01:08:32):
I just think New England's much better. Yeah, I'm going
to England, Mike. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:08:36):
The Browns are on eight ats or last eight road games.
It's the longest streak in the last forty years and
the record is nine.
Speaker 3 (01:08:45):
So if they lose this one, that's I think New England.
Speaker 5 (01:08:48):
I'm not saying you're gonna win the division I don't
know their schedules easy.
Speaker 3 (01:08:51):
I know they're and the Bill's schedules easy.
Speaker 4 (01:08:53):
I think a lot of people are talking about it
too much. Right, it's got round. They're there.
Speaker 5 (01:08:57):
He's done a tremendous job. The quarterback playing as good
as almost anybody. I got to take New England. I
can't the Browns. Who is the Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:09:08):
Jillian gab he had one hundred and eighteen or sixteen
yards and I.
Speaker 5 (01:09:11):
Knew we were all over New England last week and
it paid off. They went to Tennessee and they crushed.
One of these weeks, we're going to take New England
and there you know they're going to lay a stand
because I'm New England.
Speaker 3 (01:09:22):
I'm given to seven. New England's playing really really well.
Speaker 2 (01:09:25):
And Mike, that's that to me is relevant When you
got nine in a row on the road.
Speaker 5 (01:09:29):
Does that surprise you to know on they're trying for nine,
it's only eight now.
Speaker 3 (01:09:34):
It's just it's just.
Speaker 4 (01:09:37):
The biggest question for me with the Browns is once
when they give up on this Dyllan Gabriel thing, it's
so obvious, like they know.
Speaker 5 (01:09:42):
The funny thing is though, Kevin Stefanski, but a couple
of years ago.
Speaker 3 (01:09:47):
He's going to get fired. He's going to get whacked on.
This whole door. Sanders thing is going to get thrown
in his lap. It's just a mess.
Speaker 5 (01:09:53):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:09:54):
Tampa Bay at the Superdam against New Orleans.
Speaker 2 (01:09:56):
This was a minus six now minus four down to
minus four.
Speaker 3 (01:10:01):
Did not play well in.
Speaker 2 (01:10:02):
Detroit, but then a lot of people don't play well
in Detroit these days.
Speaker 3 (01:10:07):
New Orleans has.
Speaker 5 (01:10:08):
Been competitive but can't quite get there. Mike, Buccaneers minus
four on the round. Saints are nine and three ats
versus Atlantis since nineteen that I'm taking. I know, but
I'm taking the Saints. But I think the bo I
like the box. But they're all banged up and they're
all you know, some teams, Mike, some teams we noticed
with the Eagles because we'll.
Speaker 3 (01:10:28):
Say, man, you know whatever, four coaches ago, what I mean,
I understand that person.
Speaker 5 (01:10:32):
There was times like when the Cardinals always seemed like
they played the Eagles when they stunk.
Speaker 3 (01:10:37):
So I'm gonna take the Saints.
Speaker 4 (01:10:39):
I took the Saints last week. That was not even
remotely close to a good call. Spencer Rattler just kept
turning the ball over Chicago there was a lot of it.
It was turnover Spencer Rattler was kind of being good.
Sure can't throw the ball and wasn't anymore. I would
hope because Tim bay secondary has not been great, they're
gonna have to address that potentially at the trade deadline.
I would think if he keeps taking care of the
(01:11:02):
ball in this game, that the Saints can stick close
to this close games. Rights been in close games. There's
a lot of injuries, So I'm going to go New Orleans.
But I am timid because I close its New Orleans.
Speaker 5 (01:11:14):
Yeah, play against the movement, the team that shall not
be named minus four the best team in football in
the state capital of Indiana against the worst team in
football who knocked me out.
Speaker 2 (01:11:31):
Of the survivor pool. And I'm still bitter against Tennessee.
Speaker 4 (01:11:35):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:11:36):
I can't argue that India is playing phenomenal minus fourteen
and a half.
Speaker 4 (01:11:41):
John, it's so efficient and the numbers are staggering, the
amount of points per drive.
Speaker 3 (01:11:48):
Has been thinking two MVP candidates. Yeah, Jonathan Taylor to me,
he's great.
Speaker 4 (01:11:52):
Wow, he's been good and kind of because of injuries,
a little bit forgotten about. He's one of the most
talented running backs in the league, and I think he's
been awesome.
Speaker 3 (01:12:00):
Warren's been great in year one. He's leading rookie year.
Speaker 4 (01:12:03):
He could be Rookie of the Year. And Daniel Jones
is playing out of his mind good. I just love
everything with Indianapolis. And if there's like, oh, it could
be maybe a down game or Tennessee, you know, could
just one of those weird NFL things. I just don't
see that happening to. Indianapolis has been so consistent on offense.
I think they put up forty This is like a
forty to fourteen games.
Speaker 5 (01:12:22):
I'll take saying how most minus Fahan Titans. I'm Titans
are four and twenty worse than the NFL and probably
not even four and twenty against the spread the last
twenty years games. That's astonishing that that's almost impossible.
Speaker 3 (01:12:38):
And they beat me. They won the game. Do you
what do you know this year impossible? There's been like
four instances.
Speaker 5 (01:12:45):
It's going all the way back to that Eagles Dallas
game to start, We're it's like seven and eighty eight
and zero and you had the one well that was.
Speaker 3 (01:12:53):
The one that was of all of them. Although thirty
three points in the fourth quarters. That's kind of wild.
Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
But Arizona all that again fall on the ball and
you went but no.
Speaker 3 (01:13:05):
But didn't you say to one last week was like.
Speaker 2 (01:13:08):
Two or something crazy, up by eighteen or more with
six minutes.
Speaker 3 (01:13:12):
I'll put this way.
Speaker 5 (01:13:14):
NFL is the NFL, if the call, if the if
the Indianapolis has anything, they're going to go out and
do exactly what John just says.
Speaker 3 (01:13:21):
They're going to slaughter this team.
Speaker 5 (01:13:23):
And not even cam Ward is going to get sacked
like eight times. It's just show another situation. We just
talked about the quarterbacks mess. Yeah, uh, Denver at home,
good game minus three and a half against the Boys. Here,
you have a really good defense against a really good offense.
Speaker 2 (01:13:44):
Denver's offense stinks. Dallas's defense the fourth quarter last yeah,
they were. This is kind of a weird game. I'm
taking the Boys plus the three and a half given
I'm Zach is going to score enough.
Speaker 3 (01:13:56):
To cover John.
Speaker 4 (01:13:58):
The only problem I have with thisst this is a
road game, and Dallas has not been good on the
road for like a couple of years now, and this
year's another one. Their last two losses have been to
Chicago on the road thirty one to fourteen and Caroline
on the road.
Speaker 3 (01:14:12):
You see at.
Speaker 5 (01:14:12):
Home, they're averaging forty two a game on the road
twenty four.
Speaker 3 (01:14:16):
That's a problem.
Speaker 4 (01:14:17):
I I don't like going off of that number because
also Denver's offense has been brutally bad and they're not
going to continue to win games if it's like that.
Speaker 3 (01:14:27):
That's just yeah. I'm playing Dallas' defense that road.
Speaker 4 (01:14:30):
Yeah, Dallas defense bat and that road. That road number
is scary to be three and a half, three and
a half, three and a half.
Speaker 3 (01:14:37):
So I'm going den That's fair, Mike.
Speaker 5 (01:14:41):
I like what they what they're doing with Knicks, which
I think what the Eagle should do. But I understand
Dix REASONI when he runs the ball, he's really good.
He the Knicks Nicks that and that's what they did
a lot. I'm gonna take Denver only because Dallas is
on the road. I'm gonna make a prediction right now.
The Eagles are not winning at Dallas. Whenever that game is.
(01:15:03):
I think it's December. Dallas at home is like a
different animal. That's fair, you know, it's just.
Speaker 3 (01:15:10):
The way it is. We're running through this.
Speaker 2 (01:15:12):
Because I want to do some NBA stuff in the
last half an hour Sunday night football fun game Aaron
Rodgers Bowl in Pittsburgh, green Bay minus three on the
road against these Steelers.
Speaker 3 (01:15:26):
Mike, is it tough one? It is tough.
Speaker 5 (01:15:29):
I'm going to take on the theory that love does
stupid stuff sometimes.
Speaker 3 (01:15:34):
I'm taking Pittsburgh Pittsburgh.
Speaker 5 (01:15:36):
I'm not in love with Pittsburgh, John.
Speaker 4 (01:15:41):
Pittsburgh's defense has been horrendous. I hate their secondary and
I get Jamars.
Speaker 3 (01:15:46):
Paid a lot of money for those boys, and they
did they have.
Speaker 4 (01:15:49):
I mean, they have future Hall of Famers everywhere, and
I don't love it. So the great thing about green
Bay is they can't run the ball still a little bit.
It's not great, but they work off a play. Actually,
I just think it's too much to think about for
Pittsburgh's defense. So I like green Bay. Yeah, I don't
have a great t there.
Speaker 3 (01:16:08):
Rodgers better get used to Michael Parson. I'll tell you
what if I'm the Ravens. Pittsburgh don't want Pittsburgh wins.
You want Pittsburgh coming back to you. So those last
two games.
Speaker 2 (01:16:18):
Near the end of your mats, right, I'll take green
Bay minus to three. You guys are probably Monday Night football.
This was Kansas City minus ten. Washington's a mess, no quarterback.
Now minus Kansas City is playing great. Washington, no surprise,
they're not remotely what they were on The injuries Abers
did not help.
Speaker 3 (01:16:40):
They might not cover its all and half.
Speaker 5 (01:16:42):
It ain't taking Kansas ain't taking Washington, hoping minus it does.
Speaker 3 (01:16:45):
And I'll take Kansas City, John Kansas City by a million. Yeah,
Kansas City's playing great.
Speaker 4 (01:16:52):
Washington's defense is bad. They have a backup quarterback in
their offense has been shaky as well.
Speaker 3 (01:16:57):
Kansas City is just a machine.
Speaker 5 (01:16:59):
At this point, you always something to watch. You gotta
do that real quick. We got the Chargers are I
think five and three now, and they look good and
the quarterbacks are playing well.
Speaker 3 (01:17:09):
Their next four games are like very winnable.
Speaker 5 (01:17:11):
They could be nine and three and they're three and
zero in the division, which is Kansas City's looking really
good right now, like Denver's not big, I mean Denversion.
Speaker 3 (01:17:23):
Then who do you think the best teams in.
Speaker 2 (01:17:25):
The NFC are right now? Detroit, the Rams, Detroit Eagles, Rams, and.
Speaker 3 (01:17:32):
Who else will we put in the right behind that?
Will we put like Tampa Tampa.
Speaker 5 (01:17:38):
Maybe Bay am I leaving somebody out. But it's really
kind of wide, more wide open this year than it
has been, right because the Vikes have sort of fallen
off with their quarterback situation and everything. You don't even
know if the quarterback that was supposed to play was
going to be a I got another team.
Speaker 3 (01:17:55):
They might have met him at Seattle. Seattle.
Speaker 5 (01:17:57):
Nobody's talking about Seattle all.
Speaker 3 (01:18:00):
They're good, They're very good. Their defense is really good.
Minnesota looks like they made a horrible mistake.
Speaker 5 (01:18:05):
Let it said, I know why they did it, but yeah,
you're you'redmitted to McCarthy, but.
Speaker 3 (01:18:10):
Their backup stinks. I felt actually felt bad for Cardon
just you could see his left shoulder looked like he
was going to fall off.
Speaker 4 (01:18:18):
Yes, but he He's done that a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:18:20):
In his career. He's you know, he's the crusader.
Speaker 4 (01:18:24):
He's like, oh, outwardly injured and I would battle through.
It's like, I don't know, man, you could have probably
just taking yourself out of that game.
Speaker 3 (01:18:32):

Gambler, Sean, you're our NBA guy. You're jumping in here
for the final segment. So the Sixers win in Boston
and the opener, Now VJ. Edgecombe was a revelation. Not
that he was not a great athlete. I think we
already knew that. We all were saying, get the Sixers
younger and more athletic.
Speaker 3 (01:20:52):
Well, one player changed that like overnight.
Speaker 2 (01:20:55):
The revelation was that his three point shot was going
na astounding grade. I think you had that up five
for thirteen And when I watch it, when I watch
his shot, what's changed about him from college?
Speaker 3 (01:21:08):
The arc is dramatically better.
Speaker 2 (01:21:11):
I'm still not thrilled with the release, but whoever's working
with him is getting better at that. And the fact
that he's a threat that you have to guard him
makes him that much more hard to guard.
Speaker 3 (01:21:23):
Off the bench. Ben Simmons is working with him, Yeah,
working with it.
Speaker 2 (01:21:27):
So your overall impressions and let's put into context now,
the Celtics are the Celtics.
Speaker 3 (01:21:33):
In name only. They went to New York last night,
got waxed. But your overall impressions and the Sixers debut VJ.
Speaker 6 (01:21:39):
Edgecomb, Yeah, definitely encouraging signs with just the way the
three point shot looked, and that's something he's been vocal
about that he's been working on. But more so than
anything that stood out to me is the dude's just fearless,
Like he did not care of the moment when he
got mismatches.
Speaker 3 (01:21:53):
He was hunting guys.
Speaker 6 (01:21:54):
And another thing that I think really stood out from college,
and another thing that VJ has talked about directly. Is
the spacing really hard in college when there is guys
camped underneath the basket where he can't attack the paint
like it's pretty night and day. When you watch his
Olympic tape versus his college tape there, you saw that
last night, that when he got space and he can
attacked the rim like that, that's when his game completely clicked.
So I thought he was a great compliment to Tyrese Maxie,
(01:22:15):
who I do not want it to get lost drop
forty points of his own in that matchup there. But yeah,
you could not ask for a more encouraging debut from VJ.
Edgecombe and lived up to the hype by every definition
of that.
Speaker 3 (01:22:25):
Yeah, long way to go. But it looks like and
Cooper Flagg.
Speaker 2 (01:22:28):
Had a better game last night on though somehow Dallas
lost a hope to the Wizards, which should be impossible.
It looks like the top three picks are all going
to be fine. Dylan Harper's on a team that's two
and zero. I don't know what he did last night, Sean.
Speaker 5 (01:22:39):
I didn't see if he had a good opening game,
I know, but certainly Edgecumbe look great.
Speaker 3 (01:22:44):
John, your thoughts on the young rookie.
Speaker 2 (01:22:47):
As we said at the top of the show, thirty
four points, which is the most in an NBA debut
since the ultimate Philadelphia legend, Wilt Chairbain.
Speaker 3 (01:22:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:22:57):
I think we get so used sometimes to the sixers,
watch older dudes with knee issues that all of a sudden,
when you have a young player that moves like him,
you're like, oh my gosh.
Speaker 3 (01:23:06):
They're allowed to move like that. That's that's possible.
Speaker 4 (01:23:10):
The athleticisms off the charts, and the fact that the
shot already looks better and at least having results game one,
that's a highly encouraging thing to have. But it was
just the the the ease of him getting to the
rim is exactly what I wanted to see with an
athlete like that. I think Benard's right, It's just this
spacing's a lot better when you're in the NBA because
everybody everybody spaced.
Speaker 3 (01:23:31):
Out with the three point line. So I just think VJ.
Speaker 4 (01:23:33):
Edgecomb is a perfect fit for the NBA and young
player and is just gonna get better. I think it's
a great draft pick, and I will give Darryl Morey credit. Look,
it's one game I want to get too ahead of
my shirt. But it seems like he made a really
good pick.
Speaker 2 (01:23:45):
And look, the one thing they had to do was
get some athletes on the team because they just didn't
have any.
Speaker 3 (01:23:50):
They kept buy but that was my complain. At the
beginning of last year.
Speaker 2 (01:23:53):
They got older and slower, and I didn't know everybody's
gonna get hurt, so never really saw if it was
gonna work anyway.
Speaker 3 (01:23:58):
But it was just it was a mess from the start.
Speaker 2 (01:24:00):
But and I think Jean made a great point about
Edgecumbe as the game got tighter, as they started to
come back in the fourth quarter, he played with total
confidence and no fear. And I would have felt terrible
if the Celtics had made that last shot and he
would have had.
Speaker 3 (01:24:17):
That would have been the people would remember that missing.
Speaker 2 (01:24:19):
The two free throws, because he didn't deserve that, because
he played great.
Speaker 5 (01:24:22):
Mike, I know you saw what you think. Yeah, I mean, look,
I know the world we live in. It's one game,
and I don't want to sit here a month from
now and say it's, well, you know, let him play.
It's it's he's obviously he's twenty years older, dialing he's
twenty and again and He's going to hit a wall
(01:24:42):
at some point, as all rookies do when they get
to like that forty games or maybe not exactly, but
people that like got to calm down with this. He's
better than Cooper flag and stuff, and let's just wait
a little more. But what I really liked and again
you have you have the embid and that's another story.
Speaker 3 (01:24:59):
We'll get that. I liked Maxie.
Speaker 5 (01:25:02):
Maxie had a crappier last year, and I know he
killed him to go through that and have to sit
at the end of the year. He came out and
played great, and he played great together. And then when
you if you ever get the guy back from last year,
which at some point that far away, No, not that far,
you know Howard these three guys going to play it,
And and if and embat is not like what Joe
(01:25:26):
was and probably won't be, it's.
Speaker 3 (01:25:28):
Going to be a different look. And isn't this this
other who's.
Speaker 5 (01:25:31):
The other guy to have on the team that's a
young guy begins with a be like a power forward.
Speaker 3 (01:25:38):
I have no idea. I have no idea either.
Speaker 5 (01:25:40):
But again, another young guy like Dick saying, hey, let's
get some young guys and see what happened.
Speaker 3 (01:25:45):
I had never heard of Dominic Barlows. I looked him
up the other night.
Speaker 5 (01:25:48):
He actually played a year at Saint Joe's Prep, and
then he went to another stone in Jersey.
Speaker 3 (01:25:54):
Do I have that right, Sean? I think I do.
Speaker 6 (01:25:55):
Yeah, he bounced around and then he ended up going
to Overtime Elite, which is one of these like t
leaguing Knights alternate programs. Had a couple of coffee with
both the Hawks and Spurs. But he seems to get
it for what his role is, which is incredibly important.
Speaker 2 (01:26:06):
Yeah, so they signed him as a free agent. He
wasn't with the team last.
Speaker 3 (01:26:09):
Year, right, correct, Yeah, and he's on a two way contract.
Speaker 2 (01:26:12):
Got it okay, so he could bounce around Chief League
and all that kind of stuff. I thought that Grimes.
Speaker 3 (01:26:20):
I thought Crimes was okay.
Speaker 2 (01:26:21):
I don't think he looks like he could use a
little more, uh when he have thirty two minutes the
other night, I thought he was okay. But MAXI, as
Mike pointed out, thirteen of twenty four, seven of nine
from three, he looked so comfident.
Speaker 5 (01:26:32):
He was the best player in the court. He was awesome,
I mean absolutely good. As good as the rookie was. Yep,
I thought max he was just he was great, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:26:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:26:40):
And the Celtics again, they still have Derek White, they
still have Brown, Peyton.
Speaker 3 (01:26:48):
Pritcher's better than he played. He's not enough.
Speaker 2 (01:26:50):
He didn't play very well the other last night. But
the rest of their team is kind of slow on athletics.
Simons is okay. He can't guard anybody, but he can score.
They just I mean their center and he went seven
of eight against Embiid.
Speaker 5 (01:27:04):
That's how bad m Bid was. Who is this guy,
the center Quata? I never heard of.
Speaker 6 (01:27:09):
Him, Yeah, mayas Keta. I actually don't mind him. He's
definitely in like two large of a role currently. I
think he's like an NBA player and we'll stick around
as a rotational guy. But he's certainly like fighting, punching
above his weight class for what his current role is.
Speaker 5 (01:27:22):
Utah State twenty six year old. Here's here's my thoughts
on Maxie real quick. I don't think Maxie is ever
going to be a top ten NBA player whatever that means.
Speaker 3 (01:27:33):
Yeah, like a like a but he ain't far off, no, no.
But what I'm saying is he can score.
Speaker 5 (01:27:38):
He can be a top twenty player all the time
if he keeps elevating his game, and that's good for
guy his size who came in as the twentieth pick
or whatever the hell he was, if he gets to
that point, yep, man, I mean alright, So on to
the next questions.
Speaker 3 (01:27:57):
Embiid look decent in the exhibition. He looked he old?
Speaker 2 (01:28:02):
Is Joel like thirty one, thirty two, thirty one thirty one? Yeah,
he looked like he was seventy one the other night.
I mean that was actually sad. The counting stats are
what they are, one of nine zero four, but he
just he had nothing. He just he couldn't move. I
don't know whether he was scared to move or what.
I mean, Sean, what what was that?
Speaker 3 (01:28:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:28:24):
What stood out to me the most is I did
actually thought he moved fine in that preseason game that
I was encouraged by, like what he looked like, and
that was definitely a step back in the debut. So
I don't know if there's a mental aspect. I don't
know if the knee is swelling up. I have not
seen his name pop up in any sort of injury
report ahead of tonight. So the expectation seems to be
that he's gonna play, but it was ugly, and I guess,
like if I'm gonna take a positive from it, I
(01:28:44):
love that Nick Nurse benched him at the end there,
that they went the final nine minutes without Joel. Embiid
that it is no longer the Sixies are no longer
to live and die with what you get with Joel.
He's just an option that they do have, and I
thought I was encouraged by Nick Nairs sort of going
away from that.
Speaker 3 (01:28:58):
Yeah, the coach is not blind.
Speaker 2 (01:28:59):
I saw what we all saw, and Joe might have said, man,
I got mumble.
Speaker 4 (01:29:04):
I mean, you didn't have to say it anybody that
what Probably it's just that the day up, once he
starts playing on it, it's then and there he figures out
if I can play or not, or at least play
at it at certain levels.
Speaker 3 (01:29:14):
So again we have just what it's gonna be, right,
we have forty.
Speaker 2 (01:29:17):
Eight minutes worth of evidences. Might pointed out, it doesn't
mean a whole lot. So at some point McCain is
going to come back. We don't know when George is
coming back. I would say this as I see the
team as constructed at the moment, embide as old George
is really old. Now you got these young athletes. If
(01:29:38):
George is healthy and then beat is healthy, they're going
to play. They're making in thesame amount of money. Sean,
your thoughts on how this will look and again, I'm
not saying what Mbiad's gonna look like in a month
or George, but we know that they are older and
they are not remotely as athletic as these younger guys.
How does that mix look for Nick Nurse and the
(01:30:01):
coaches going forward?
Speaker 6 (01:30:02):
Yeah, I do think this is going to be a
year where it's a lot more about like figuring out
what you got with these young guys and giving them
opportunities to play through it. I will say, like just
watching that first game, I see like where there's kind
of a need for Paul George from like a skill
set perspective for what he can bring to the table.
Like if you're talking about kickout threes to Paul George
instead of Dominic Barlow, you're probably feeling a little bit
better about those looks there.
Speaker 3 (01:30:23):
So I think they'll be introduced.
Speaker 6 (01:30:24):
I think George is gonna come back probably a little
bit sooner than people think.
Speaker 3 (01:30:27):
I would guess within the next two weeks.
Speaker 6 (01:30:28):
And he's up in practicing and should be regaining a
part of the team in the relative short term. So
it's going to be a bit of an adventure in
a balancing act there. But I think that the keys
to the franchise in the young guy's hands, and Nick
Nurse is fully cognizant of that.
Speaker 2 (01:30:43):
Uh, Mike, out of the what do you have any
long term thoughts on the Sixers?
Speaker 3 (01:30:47):
Again? One game? Who knows what that is and who
knows what it really meant?
Speaker 5 (01:30:50):
Given the Celtics, if your goal is to win an
NBA championship, yep, not that Joe's ever won one or
got to an Eastern Final row. Yeah, I don't think
if you have a team where Joe's not doing a
whole lot and Paul George isn't doing a whole lot,
I don't think they can win a championship. I just
think that's hard, is it. They could be exciting, they
can be a lot of things. You've got Paul George
(01:31:13):
for three more years. I believe that we've got Joe
for three or four. Yeah, that's a problem because you
can talk about all you want about we want to
be younger, quicker. This that those guys got to be
there unless you're eating like two hundred million dollars and
just letting them go. So that's the challenge the Sixers
gonna face. And again I want to see I don't
(01:31:35):
care what they are now. It's nice that the guy
had a great game. He might have more great games.
What are they going to be in March?
Speaker 3 (01:31:41):
What are they? Can they be a four seed in
the ease? Can they be just like the fact that
they were fund.
Speaker 5 (01:31:47):
But we knew that, but then we kind of know
that because Maxi's fun, but we kind of thought it
was just like a joy to watch the NBA and
the guy that got hurt from Duke last year, right,
I mean he was playing well.
Speaker 3 (01:32:00):
I do think it is.
Speaker 4 (01:32:02):
It is a good thing and maybe franchise or a
way to get them out of what they're in. When
you're hitting on draft picks as consistently and it's like
high levels some of these guys have been.
Speaker 3 (01:32:12):
Because McCain was looking like it was really good.
Speaker 4 (01:32:14):
Maxie's been really good and now it looks like maybe
they have hit something with j Edgecomb and if they
do that and like, yeah, you that's that's the way
you get out of some of this.
Speaker 5 (01:32:22):
But how do you get out of stuff, John, when
you have guys signed for three or four year.
Speaker 4 (01:32:26):
Years because they're under rookie deals and you can build
a roster off of what they're doing.
Speaker 3 (01:32:31):
It's pretty incredible. Sean.
Speaker 2 (01:32:33):
You made the point a while back that the Sixers
have basically turned a page on this era, right, Yeah,
even though they've got to still pay these guys with
and it's all about Maxi and Edgecombe at this point
and McCain. Uh So, the question is, as they're doing this,
how do they stay competitive knowing these old guys maybe
can't do what they used to do.
Speaker 6 (01:32:53):
I also think there's kind of an advantage to like
letting the young guys carry the load. And then when
we do get to where we're talking about postseason, like
how you actually maximize this team, and we could be
looking at a completely different version of Joel at that stage,
for better or for worse, that there's a.
Speaker 3 (01:33:07):
World where he's not there at all.
Speaker 6 (01:33:08):
There's a world where he's able to build up his
knee throughout the season, Like as much as it looked bad,
he's also not going to get better just sitting on
the sideline with it, So they can't give up on
that given the contractual commitment there. But I think like
internally there is a sense of let's see what Maxi
and Edgecombe can fully take us and go from there.
Speaker 3 (01:33:25):
So it's not the easiest to let me ask it, Sean,
let me ask you this.
Speaker 5 (01:33:30):
So let's say in a month or whatever, Joe is
playing more often like he did in the exhibition game,
like you know where he gave you something decent, right
he was?
Speaker 3 (01:33:39):
How do you see? This is where I.
Speaker 5 (01:33:41):
Think the issued not issue, But this is what Nick
Nurse is going to have to figure out. How do
you take advantage of Joe being that with the young
guys without stepping on.
Speaker 3 (01:33:52):
That's why they're paying them. Yeah, I fig.
Speaker 6 (01:33:55):
I honestly expected a little bit more of like Joelle
being like the hub of an offense to an extent
sort of yokics like where it is a bunch of
Edgecomb doing backcuts and McCain running off pin downs, and.
Speaker 3 (01:34:05):
There was some of that.
Speaker 6 (01:34:06):
I think they got to lean into that a whole
other direction, Like Joel's come a long way as far
as his reading of the game and his ability as
a playmaker.
Speaker 3 (01:34:13):
I think he's smart enough to do that.
Speaker 6 (01:34:14):
And I see where where that works, where it is
Embiid a dirty work guy like Dominic Barlow, and then
it's just Maxie McCain Edgecomb Grimes kind of running around
creating motion. I think that could be fun basketball and
effective basketball if they can build toward that direction.
Speaker 3 (01:34:27):
Yeah, that that makes a lot of sense to me.
Speaker 2 (01:34:29):
And and Embiid, Look, he's he's a jump shooter anyway, that's.
Speaker 3 (01:34:33):
Who he is.
Speaker 2 (01:34:33):
He's a he's an elbow player at this point in
the stage of his career. He doesn't go down low
very often anyway, So that makes a lot of sense.
You just run stuff around him. I would be also
concerned long term about with especially if Embiid is going
to be what he was the other night or something
a little bit better.
Speaker 3 (01:34:50):
He was the whole hulp and their defense was good.
Speaker 2 (01:34:52):
He was the reason, well the other night, he was
the reason their defense wasn't good because.
Speaker 3 (01:34:56):
He couldn't He couldn't stop anybody.
Speaker 2 (01:34:58):
And that's a problem, that's a that's an issue because look,
he was your stopper, he was the key.
Speaker 3 (01:35:02):
Got a couple other thoughts on the NBA.
Speaker 2 (01:35:05):
Uh, in Texas, there's one two and OH team and
two OHO and two teams.
Speaker 3 (01:35:09):
Houston's probably gonna be fine there.
Speaker 2 (01:35:12):
They were yelling fire Nico in Dallas last night after
they started oh and two with the number one gets
hurt when they lost by ten to the Wizards. Jick Sean, Just,
I know we're two games in one game. In some cases,
some teams have played three. Golden State played their third
(01:35:33):
game last night. Uh, what have you seen so far
in the first couple of games? And other than when
Bayana may now be the best player in the NBA,
which I've been saying.
Speaker 6 (01:35:43):
May may, it is unbelievable. Like the Wemby stuff. He
does things that I did not think were possible on
a basketball court, Like I was kind of gonna bring
it up to you guys, like I feel like I'm
gonna forever talk about like Victor Wembin Yama the way
like my grandfather talks about Will Chamberlain of like you
can't believe the things he's doing. Like the black shot
on Lively, who's seven foot two and it was a
(01:36:03):
push shot from right by the rim, just swatted away
from Wemby and he's pulling up scored forty in the
first game.
Speaker 3 (01:36:08):
He's unreal.
Speaker 6 (01:36:09):
I think that's Spurs teams legitimate. The Dallas thing I
think is interesting. I think they should pull the plug
already on the Cooper flag point guard experience.
Speaker 3 (01:36:16):
I think it's kind of unfair to.
Speaker 6 (01:36:17):
The kid, to be perfectly honest, absolutely like, he's never
been a point guard and he won't once Kyrie Irving
gets healthy again. I get like Jason Kidds sort of
lean the same direction with the Yannest developmental arc there,
but I just don't really see it with Cooper Flagg
and think it'd be better for everyone if they move
on from that.
Speaker 2 (01:36:32):
Yeah, he's never been a point guard at any level.
He's a finisher. He's a great passer, but he's a
passer from mid post to the post and elbow. And yeah,
he's not going to run your office.
Speaker 3 (01:36:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:36:42):
The only thing I'm grateful for with women Yama is
that we have high definition video, because if I would
say some of this stuff without video evidence of it,
people would think I'm absolutely nuts. You got like, I'm
making up this mythical legend of a creature like Bigfoot,
and it isn't real with the stuff he does.
Speaker 5 (01:36:59):
He is a mixture of wilt Elijah Wan and maybe
there's somehow sender in there.
Speaker 1 (01:37:07):
He is.
Speaker 5 (01:37:08):
And I'll bring this that you guys wouldn't notice. Dick obviously, Mike,
I'm gonna disagree with that.
Speaker 2 (01:37:11):
What you just sa I said, never been anybody remotely
with this skill level.
Speaker 3 (01:37:17):
Oh no, I was not any No, no. What I
was trying to say.
Speaker 5 (01:37:21):
Take the best attributes of all these guys that we
think are all time, None of those guys could block
shots like this guy because they weren't seven for five
size well, and he only shot two threes the other night,
But they made a point on TV though there's never been.
Speaker 3 (01:37:36):
A playerwork, but he works over the summer.
Speaker 5 (01:37:39):
Of getting to the basket because he figured out if
I get to the basket, I said. Thirty two years ago,
nine Sixers drafted Sean Bradlett, a seven to six guy
from b YU who people in this town, Sonny Hill
who being one of them, which I appreciate. Sonny's going
to change the game. Well, you know what, because he
(01:37:59):
was seven to six. This guy is going to.
Speaker 2 (01:38:02):
Change the games already changing it.
Speaker 3 (01:38:05):
It's unreal.
Speaker 2 (01:38:06):
H he's the best player in the league. And look,
and this is no knock at all on SGA right,
double nickel the other.
Speaker 5 (01:38:12):
Yeah, he's phenomenal, But when by affects everything, and I
don't think the Aaron Fox has play.
Speaker 3 (01:38:18):
Again, No, no, he has not. He did not play
it the first two day.
Speaker 4 (01:38:21):
But he affects everything in a way, just his presence
on the floor because he's so tall, there is a
fear of a block shot no matter where they even
if you're on the three point line and he's in
the pain.
Speaker 5 (01:38:32):
He is so tall that I mean there's still a chance.
I mean there's no injuries or just blood cloth or whatever.
Speaker 3 (01:38:37):
He's twenty one.
Speaker 5 (01:38:39):
Can you imagine him when he's twenty five or twenty
six and he's put his body's gotten bigger and he
can still do the things he does.
Speaker 4 (01:38:49):
But it's it's that combinement, the mental part of the game.
And I think that's what kind of you were talking about.
My current let's go to the paint more. I can
do this more that the mental part of the game
getting better.
Speaker 5 (01:38:59):
He worked on it like that was a part. Somebody said,
you know, he took nine threes.
Speaker 3 (01:39:03):
A game last year. Maybe you don't have to. How
can he not win the Defensive Player Year awards?
Speaker 4 (01:39:08):
Should win it every year the next decade, every year
that he plays like a near full season, he should
win the US.
Speaker 3 (01:39:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:39:13):
Look he san Antonio has hit the lottery a couple
of times when it was the right year.
Speaker 3 (01:39:18):
To hit the lottery.
Speaker 2 (01:39:19):
Right, they got David Robinson, they got Tim Duncan, and
now they got one by.
Speaker 3 (01:39:22):
I mean, the kid is phenomenal.
Speaker 5 (01:39:24):
It's worth staying up, It's worth NBA TV, It's worth
whatever you need to do if you want to see
something incredibly unique in sports.
Speaker 3 (01:39:33):
Yeah, Victor is that guy.
Speaker 2 (01:39:35):
Keep in mind he almost led France to beat in
the USA in the Olympics and he's just starting.
Speaker 3 (01:39:42):
Yeah, it's just starting.
Speaker 4 (01:39:44):
It's a crazy thing to say because shoe hee Otani
is so unique that it's like nothing compares to it.
Speaker 3 (01:39:48):
Web Yama compared.
Speaker 4 (01:39:49):
I get the same feeling that I watch when I
watch wemen Yama. It's like I am watching something that
is totally unique, that is not being done ever before
in this and you know what.
Speaker 2 (01:39:59):
He has and you can see it when you're watch him.
He has a very big competitive heart. Yeah, he wants
to be great Sean. You're seeing that right.
Speaker 3 (01:40:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:40:07):
And he also, by the way, apparently is now legitimately
measuring in at seven foot seven.
Speaker 3 (01:40:12):
Seven seven growing. He should change his number, he should
wear Edgecomb's number.
Speaker 2 (01:40:19):
So I got to tell this Sean Bradley story. Mike
mentioned this before. Actually two Sean Bradley stories. One b
YU played the sal at the Civic Center. I was
covered Lasal at the time when Sean Bradley was in
college and he was out played dramatically by La Sales
Center Milco Lee Burst from Holland. And when people said
(01:40:41):
he's going to be a great pro, I said, I
happen to be at the Civic Center. You're wrong, You're clueless,
don't do it. And of course then the Sixers took
him and we know the rest of the story. Now
it's kind of a Chris Webber.
Speaker 5 (01:40:53):
Now, why would you want any of those kind of guys?
Speaker 3 (01:40:57):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:40:57):
And my second Sean Bradley story is I think it
was the same year after his rookie year.
Speaker 3 (01:41:02):
The Sixers kind of remember who the coach was.
Speaker 2 (01:41:06):
They had a summer camp in Atlantic City and Phil Jasner,
our great NBA writer, was on vacation. They sent me
down there and the Sixers were staying at the taj
Ma Hall, which I don't even think exists anymore.
Speaker 3 (01:41:19):
I don't think torn down or a lot of things
are going.
Speaker 2 (01:41:22):
So I'm at the taj Mahall and I'm there covering
the Sixers in the summer. And the second night i'm there,
there's a crap game going on and there's this guy
over there who's like one hundred feet tall, and I'm going,
it can't be the Mormon playing crabs.
Speaker 3 (01:41:39):
It was.
Speaker 2 (01:41:40):
It was John Brown playing crabs. So now she only
had to write about the Mormon.
Speaker 3 (01:41:46):
Damn. You know what I didn't realize about four or
five years ago. He was in a car. Actually he's paralyzed.
He's a quadripolice and I didn't I for some time.
I see that it's a great story. I read about it.
Oh my god, it's really a shame. It's it's horrible.
Speaker 4 (01:42:01):
I mean, just the.
Speaker 2 (01:42:02):
Fact that he wasn't the player he was supposed to
be is one thing you don't under say.
Speaker 3 (01:42:06):
Anybody's life gets destroyed. That's just brutal.
Speaker 2 (01:42:08):
But any other NBA thoughts here early Sean, some of
the early games teams you've seen.
Speaker 6 (01:42:13):
Yeah, I'm still encouraged by the Rockets. They definitely need
guard help, but I think they're going to be very
much in the mix in the Western Conference. The West
is going to be a bloodbath this year. Like the
Nuggets look good, the Thunder obviously going to be there.
The Spurtest taken the lead. So feels pretty nice to
be sitting in the East from a sixer perspective.
Speaker 3 (01:42:29):
No question.
Speaker 2 (01:42:30):
Yeah, that you could finish like ten games over five
hundred to West have missed the players. Yes, it's just
brutal out there, and there are no no nights off.
Speaker 5 (01:42:38):
It was funny the guys in Minnesota did Everybody was
telling me two years ago to Racings. Nobody even talks
about Minnesota anymore, like an afterthought.
Speaker 3 (01:42:46):
And he's playing incredible.
Speaker 4 (01:42:48):
I know he is.
Speaker 3 (01:42:49):
They weren't they in the Western Finals last year? Yeah,
yeah they were.
Speaker 5 (01:42:52):
But nobody talks about in a row and they talk
about all these teams, and because you got Lebron and
Steph and I know people are going to talk about
them and you got.
Speaker 3 (01:43:00):
I think that's the story too. Steph at thirty seven.
Speaker 5 (01:43:03):
Thirty, he's taking shots from third thirty not throw.
Speaker 3 (01:43:06):
Up shots is not news from a timeless player. It's unreal.
Speaker 2 (01:43:12):
Yeah, they're they're Their only issue is that they're old.
Speaker 3 (01:43:15):
Yeah, that's that's their issue. They're taking one more run
at it with three old guys. But it's just to
see Steph play at this level.
Speaker 5 (01:43:22):
And again he's might he might be my all time
favorite NBA players.
Speaker 3 (01:43:26):
He's looking up. I love it is. I can never
what do you DoD? Last night?
Speaker 2 (01:43:31):
They got waxed by the Trail Blazers. But they've been
playing a lot of games. One one nineteen exteen, twelve
of twenty two, seven of fourteen thirty five.
Speaker 3 (01:43:40):
Okay, but they.
Speaker 5 (01:43:41):
Won that game for the coach. Portland went out and
played for Chauncey, Jimmy bother three of seven.
Speaker 3 (01:43:46):
Oh, they went all in for Chauncey. They did what
about Curry? What's the gambling pun? What's yeah? Wait?
Speaker 6 (01:43:54):
Wait do you see how Chauncey ended his final press
conference by the way?
Speaker 3 (01:43:58):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah? The tips fall? How they may?
You can't make it up.
Speaker 5 (01:44:04):
So step through three games is as ninety nine points
thirty three point three.
Speaker 3 (01:44:10):
Let the chips fall where they met?
Speaker 2 (01:44:12):
I mean, really, you couldn't write a better didn't know
what was gonna happen the next morning.
Speaker 3 (01:44:17):
I mean really, I don't know if he did or not,
but that is incredible. Yeah, that's like, that's like a legendary.
I'm going to write a movie script better than that now.
Speaker 2 (01:44:25):
And by the way, the uh speaking of movies, this
uh this fixing the poker Games while the Mafia that
is one movie within like a.
Speaker 3 (01:44:35):
Year or two.
Speaker 4 (01:44:36):
There is actually Oh yeah, that is right. I mean
there's an episode of the Suprtos.
Speaker 3 (01:44:39):
Who couldn't write that script. I'll be happy to join
it and write there.
Speaker 9 (01:44:42):
Yah.
Speaker 4 (01:44:42):
I immediately thought there was an episode of The Sopranos
where they have these poker games with like with like
players and then there's a fish.
Speaker 3 (01:44:48):
Yeah, and there, and there's you can see the cards.
Speaker 2 (01:44:51):
People are buzzing you to tell you to drop out,
get in and make.
Speaker 5 (01:44:55):
That one line from Rounders where the guys says, if
you're sitting at the table and you're trying to figure.
Speaker 3 (01:45:00):
You, that's a fact. You're the fit.
Speaker 2 (01:45:04):
That is a fact. It's been a fun two hours.
Eagles tomorrow, the Chips roll where they may Sixers tonight,
Union tomorrow flyers are five ball Al's trying to cover
the spread.
Speaker 3 (01:45:17):
