Sports R Dumb

Sean and Joey love sports, but they realize there are a lot of dumb elements within our favorite games. And each week, they'll break down one of those dumb things in this tidy, bite-sized podcast. Drop by to hear Sean lament over the stupidity of a certain aspect in sports—basketball, football, baseball, hockey, golf, tennis, volleyball, lacrosse—nothing is off-limits. If there's something dumb to talk about, you better believe we'll hit it. We're also covering some pointless tweets, overused sports cliches, and general news that...well, doesn't need to be news. And we love to hear from you! Give Sean or Joey (or both) a shout with your favorite dumb things.

Joey is thriving, but Sean is barely hanging on thanks to a bug that has conquered him. Nevertheless, we're powering through.

Joey recaps his visit to Frisco, Texas, known as Sports City USA—and wouldn't you know it, it has a bunch of fun video game stuff, too! We're waxing nostalgic about The Oregon Trail and Pokemon Stadium.

Plus, the introduction of a new Sean segment! What a time. And here's that Adrian Beltre an...

When Sean and Joey were kids, there seemed to be no shortage of funky batting stances. Tony Batista. Jeff Bagwell. Craig Counsell. Chuck Knoblauch. Kevin Youkilis. Those seem to largely be a relic of the past. Are we just getting older? Do we simply not care as much? Am I so out of touch? Probably yes to all three. Shout out to Sports R Dumb listener Chris for the topic suggestion!

Sean also tries to accurately predict World Series ...

Right after a season ends, shows, writers, and fans will start creating their "way too early" lists for the next year. This is often before any transfers, drafts, or free agency periods take place. So, you know, no team is going to look like it does now. How silly!

Plus, we dissect what we'd do with the Stanley Cup if we won an NHL title and got to parade the cup around town. The creativity is quite impressive, if we do ...

There have been a lot of fights in the WNBA lately. Caitlin Clark is involved in a handful of them, largely because the entire league seems to dislike her. Yet some of the reactions and coverage of these fights is very holier than thou.

Plus, Joey had the most active vacation one could possibly indulge in, with kayaking, golfing, surfing, and yoga on the beach in Port Aransas. And then he went to Chicago and watched the White Sox wi...

Congratulations to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who won this year's NBA championship. Unfortunately, the victory was marred by a first quarter injury to Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers. Hali tore his Achilles, and the wind was suddenly taken out of the season.

We're also diving into some of our favorite moments from the season, as well as the types of plays we need more of next year. And here's that video of silly ...

The Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers are in the midst of a wildly entertaining NBA Finals. Yet quite a bit of media coverage has centered around the New York Knicks' absurd coaching search, where Kevin Durant is going, and the legacy of players who aren't anywhere near the Finals.

Of course, we're giving a little bit of attention to those things, too. Maybe we're part of the problem.

Plus, do you enjoy watchin...

We watched Texas Tech softball pitcher NiJaree Canady doing fantastic things on the mound, yet the discourse was only around her name, image, and likeness (NIL) deal. We typically don't see this during men's sports. Funny how that works, isn't it?

Plus, Joey gives a recap on his adventures trying to get dumb promotional giveaways and items during his trip to Camden Yards and Nationals Park. What an ordeal—but worth it in...

Joey is taking a little MLB stadium tour to Camden Yards and Nationals Park. One of those games has a cool giveaway; the other has nothing. Why is that?

Plus, Sean and Joey share their favorite unusual giveaway memories from their game attendance over the years.

ESPN canceled long-time program Around the Horn, a staple for both Sean and Joey during their formative years and into adulthood. The show had a terrific run, but we're more concerned with what ESPN is replacing it with: nothing of note.

We're running out of shows that highlight sports journalism and instead just want talking heads that can either break news or yell at each other. And sure, ATH had those moments of banter, ...

We're in the midst of NBA and NHL playoffs, and we've even got wacky events on ESPNEWS like the Tetris championships. Yet, it's the NFL that's got people buzzing because it has no shame about turning mundane offseason events into glorified news cycles.

Schedule release videos? Let's make 'em extravagant. Christmas Day games? Let's steal the NBA's thunder. Contract updates and player's offseason ap...

Curious how the lottery works? The NBA breaks it down here.

This is Sean's favorite time of the sports year since there's so much going on. We're exploring our favorite storylines from the NBA and NHL playoffs and talking about some ridiculous moments surrounding the NFL Draft (including a time Sean got cut off at a wings bar).

Alexander Ovechkin just broke Wayne Gretzky's record for the most goals scored in an NHL career. It's an impressive achievement of both talent and longevity. Yet when you try to give Ovechkin kudos, there's always at least one person who says something like, "Yeah, but...he's still not Gretzky." Why do we need to put someone down? Why can't we just celebrate both players? And here's the Calvin and Ho...

Between the wild end of the Bulls and Lakers game, the Pacers dropping 162 points, some very chalky March Madness brackets, and the start of the baseball season, there was quite a bit of wackiness this weekend in sports. We're getting you all caught up on the top moments.

It's the longest episode of Sports R Dumb yet! We've got a lot to get through. Sean is filling out a bracket with absolutely no knowledge of college basketball. Meanwhile, Joey is filling his out based entirely on mascots (and he apologizes to the Tritons. For some reason he thought Michigan had a Wolverine mascot!). Aside from that, you will certainly learn a thing or two about a mascot you never knew about. What a time to...

As you may know, Sean is a Dallas Mavericks fan. You may also remember the team traded Luka Doncic about a month ago, and the star the Mavericks got in return getting injured in his very first game.

Even more chaos has happened since then, and it is tough to support the Mavericks right now. Sean is just about spiritually broken by the end of this episode.

Plus, some NFL shenanigans. We're also in the middle of SXSW, so we're ...

The Oscars just celebrated the biggest night in Hollywood. We're doing the same with sports! Sean breaks down his top sports moments of the year, from Best Actor and Actress (Athletes) to Best Picture (the most memorable game).
