Brad Powell (00:06):
I was on a call
with a client last week and he's
built this incredible business.
He's got a great reputation,great results.
And he said to me Brad, I knowI'm great at what I do, but when
it comes to being online, Ifeel like I don't know what I'm
doing.
I don't know anything aboutthis stuff, and I'll tell you
(00:27):
what I don't like.
When I see on LinkedIn someonegets an award and they post it
and they send the hey, I'm soproud to get this award.
It just feels fake.
And I thought, yeah, I hearsomething like this almost every
week.
And the truth is, most of theexpert entrepreneurs that I know
(00:51):
are not trying to beinfluencers.
They just want their onlinepresence to match the trust that
they've already built offline.
But so much of what's out therethe content advice, the
marketing hacks and trends it'sbuilt for the algorithm, not for
experts, and that's why thisnew season of the show is going
(01:14):
to sound a little different.
We're talking about how tobuild visibility, trust and
demand without burning out, without performing and without
feeding the content machine, thegiant monster.
Because standing out today itis not about doing more, it's
(01:36):
about showing up and standingout differently.
So let's get started.
So let's get started.
Welcome back to the StandoutBusiness Show, where we reverse
engineer how expertentrepreneurs build trusted,
high authority brands withoutbecoming fuel for the content
(01:57):
machine.
How do you like that for a newopening line?
And if you've been listeningfor a while, you might notice
we're starting this new seasonwith a slightly different tone.
I'm calling it Less Hustle,More Mojo, and I want to take a
few minutes today to tell youwhy.
Over the last year, I've beenhaving a lot of conversations
(02:21):
with expert entrepreneurs, andthese are the coaches,
consultants, agency founders,fractional CMOs.
These are all people who aregreat at what they do and
they're already running asuccessful business.
But there's this common threadWhile they're amazing in the
room, but online they feelinvisible, unrecognized and what
(02:45):
I like to refer to asunderexposed or worse, like the
only way to be seen is toperform, chase trends and try to
be somebody that they're not,and most of them are quietly
resisting it, which is why thisnew season of the show is
leaning hard into this.
How do you build visibility andtrust without becoming fuel for
(03:11):
the content machine?
How do you show up as you andactually stand out while you're
doing it?
How do you build content thatsounds like trust, not marketing
.
That's what we're going to bereverse engineering this season
and here's what you can expect.
We're going to break downexactly how expert entrepreneurs
(03:32):
are turning one conversationinto a month of trust building
content.
We're going to explore beliefshifts that move people from not
ready to right now, and we'llshow how you can reclaim your
business mojo by showing up asyou are.
(03:53):
You're going to hear more soloepisodes from me, and soon
you're going to hear you'll alsohear conversations with the
experts who were doing this inthe wild, building trust and
visibility without the burnout.
One of the people I've lined upis a woman named Sandra Pike,
who is a realtor who lives inHalifax, Nova Scotia, and I
(04:16):
actually heard about Sandraseveral years ago and her story
is that she moved to Nova Scotiafrom Newfoundland.
She landed in town, she didn'tknow anybody, she had no
connections, no visibility, butshe started fooling around with
Instagram Reels and shesuccessfully built a strong
(04:36):
personal brand and she has sincebecome one of the leading
realtors in all of Canada.
And I'm actually going to NovaScotia for a college reunion
later this month and I'm goingto meet with Sandra in person so
I can dive deep into retellingher story, so stay tuned for
(04:57):
that.
But honestly, the reason I'mmaking this shift is because
I've been seeing the samepatterns in my own business.
Today I was listening to areally cool interview with New
York Times reporter Ezra Kleinand this was on the podcast how
I Write and he was talking aboutthe matrix style of downloading
information.
(05:18):
You know that thing where theystick the tube into the back of
your brain and no time at allall the information comes to you
and so that way of gettinginformation versus, let's say,
spending seven hours reading abook.
What he said that stuck with mewas that the time you spend
grappling with a topic, thatseven hours and then coming away
(05:42):
with your own insights, that'sthe part that's super valuable.
That's the part that gives youthis real, genuine experience
and insight and new way oflooking at things that you can't
just get from, say, reading asummary.
And yet now we live in a worldwhere lots of young folks with
(06:05):
very little experience are ableto garner a whole bunch of
attention online and, at thesame time, many of the most
experienced expert businessowners remain mostly
undiscovered.
So, in carving my own path withthe work that I do.
I have built my own visibilityaround a combination of
(06:28):
relationship building and simpleconversations, and this is what
I call mic drop moments.
These are the moments whereyour expertise naturally shines
without you needing to perform, and it takes you out of the role
of being a content creator andlets you simply document those
(06:49):
moments when you're in your zoneof genius, and that's what I
want for you.
So the theme of the new seasonless hustle, more mojo.
If you've got mojo in the roombut not so much online, if
you're tired of the performativestyle of marketing, if you want
(07:11):
visibility that feels alignedwith exactly who you are, this
new season is for you.
So let's ditch the contentmachine together.
If this resonates with you, here's what you can do Follow
the show so you don't misswhat's coming, and if you know
(07:32):
another expert who needs thismessage, please forward this
episode to them, because thisseason we are here to reclaim
our business expert mojo, and Ican't wait to dive in with you.
So long, Thank you.
