Brad Powell (00:00):
Here is the number one question that I know my
clients think about all the timeDoes video really work and will
I actually get clients from myvideos?
Well, this week, I think I gotthe best possible answer to that
question.
A lot of expert entrepreneursthink video is risky, that it's

(00:21):
a ton of work and there's noguarantee of return.
But just a couple of days ago,I landed a new client, and this
is someone who I think is goingto be an ideal client for me,
and this happened because ofvideos that I made months ago.
And here's the best part by thetime we got on a call, it felt
like I'd already made a newfriend, even though we'd never

(00:43):
met.
He's an executive coach.
He's earning about a quartermillion dollars a year, which
easily puts him in the top 5% ofmost coaches, and he told me
that my videos made him feelsafe and at ease and like
working with me was going to bepossible even before we'd spoken

(01:04):
.
I want to share the exactmoment that flipped the switch
for him, and how you can createvideos that turn strangers into
your next dream clients withoutselling a thing.
And if that sounds good, let'sstart the show.

(01:31):
Welcome to the Standout BusinessShow, the podcast for expert
entrepreneurs who want to make abigger difference by showing up
differently.
I'm Brad Powell and I'm a videobrand architect who helps
experts turn one hour of theirlife into a whole month of
trust-building video contentwithout becoming fuel for the
content machine.
And so we're going to startwith this story.

(01:54):
I'm going to call it the storyof Michael Dolan, which shout
out to Michael.
He's the person who I met justthis week and he's 56 years old.
He is an executive coach and hehas this high six-figure
business which really positionshim as someone who very much

(02:15):
could be the exact right fitclient for somebody who wants to
come and work with me.
Now he came to me and we talkeda little bit work with me.
Now he came to me and we talkeda little bit.
His main goal was to grow fromgetting about 30% of his revenue
coming from his brand togrowing that to 60 to 70%.
So he really wanted to develophis personal brand and he'd been

(02:39):
thinking about doing video.
But his main challenge was thathe'd had some bad experiences
with other lead generationtactics.
But, unbeknownst to me, he'dstarted watching some of my
videos and by watching them hesaid they made him feel safe and
at ease and inspired.

Michael Dolan (02:57):
Really appreciated your, what you've
been putting out there and howyou show up and like when I
watch your stuff it has me feelsafe, like this is a guy who,
like he makes me feel at easeand like I could do it and he

(03:19):
makes he brings a lightness andan openness that, oh yeah, I
want to keep on watching hisstuff because it has me feel
even more and more likeattracted and possible and you
know I'd like to do that.
That would be good, you know.

Brad Powell (03:38):
So we got on a Zoom call together.
This is what I call my standouton video call together.
This is what I call my standouton video call.
And when people are coming tome and thinking and working with
me, this is what we do as ourvery first step.
And the very first thing hesaid when we showed up on Zoom.
He said I feel like I'm in oneof your videos and he was

(03:59):
referring to that.
He can see my set in thebackground and this is where I
make all of my videos from.
And he was like oh, I'm, I'mhere, I am live with you in one
of your videos.
And I think the main thing thathad happened is that, because
you've been watching my videos,a lot of stuff around ice

(04:21):
breaking and buildingfamiliarity and building trust
and, more importantly, buildingalignment between how he thinks
and how I think all of thatstuff had already happened.
And so the call, this kind ofcall which is really a sales
call, a call where, if it'slooking like we're a good fit,

(04:42):
then I'm going to encourage thetwo of us to start working
together.
Well, this didn't feel at alllike I had to sell anything, and
a lot of what Michael said tome all of this was unsolicited,
and he just kept referencing theways in which the videos of
mine that he'd been watchingmade him feel.

Michael Dolan (05:02):
You seem like you have a natural way of like,
nuggetizing and systematizing ina way that communicates.
That works.

Brad Powell (05:11):
And so by the end of this first call the first
time we've actually met inperson he's basically raised his
hand and said okay, I want toget started, and I have a
feeling that he's going to beone of my favorites, and I can't
tell you how good it felt, Ithink for both of us Getting on
this call together was it waslike meeting a new friend.
So when this works, when youput your videos out into the

(05:35):
world, this is the kind of thingthat you can expect to have
happen to you, and I'll say thatthis kind of thing is
repeatable.
You can do it again and again.
So, for instance, earlier thisyear, I started working with a
really cool landscape designcompany called the Narrow Lane

(05:56):
and they're actually locatedright here in Boston, and the
man who runs Narrow Lane, hisname, is Ron Good and he had
been watching my videos, and sohe reached out unsolicited.
We got on a Zoom call togetherand one of the first things that
he said to me was I feel like Ialready know you, and he was
kind of laughing about it andalmost embarrassed to admit it

(06:36):
was there because he'd beenseeing me, hearing from me,
feeling my vibe, feeling sort ofwho I am and what I'm like, and
that's what drew him in, and soby the time we got on the call,
he really felt comfortable intalking about how we could work
together.
And of course, we did startworking together, and we've been
making some terrific videossince then, and I'll mention
just one more client example.
Dr Matt Shiver is a businesscoach for personal trainers and

(06:59):
fitness people and he and Istarted working together
recently oh gosh, it wasprobably four years ago and
after he'd been publishing hisvideos for about three months,
he told me that when people weregetting on his sales calls,
people were referencing thevideos that they'd been seeing
on the call.

Dr. Matt Shiver (07:18):
The cool part was when I was able to hop on
sales calls or calls with people, they would start to reference
the content that I was creating.
I was like whoa, you guys arelistening.
So I encourage you if you'relike you know it sounds like
it's a lot of work to startcreating content on a consistent
basis and if you can do itenough consistently, you're
going to build enough no likeand trust factor with your ideal

(07:41):
clients to where they willliterally DM you and be like how
do I work with you?
How do I pay you money, createcontent it works you and be like
how do I work with you?

Brad Powell (07:48):
How do I pay you money?
Create content.
It works.
So this isn't luck.
It's the result of intentional,trust-driven video architecture
, and this is exactly the kindof architecture that I can help
you build when you start workingwith me with my Mic Drop
Moments method and this is areally simple and fairly
painless way for you to create alot of content.

(08:11):
We sit down, we have aninterview, I ask you questions,
you give me answers and wegradually pull out some of your
best insights, your best storiesand your pearls of wisdom that
you have to share with thepeople who you most want to
serve, and when they see yourvideos, if they are the right
people, all of this is going toresonate with them, because your

(08:34):
videos show the real personbehind your brand and it's going
to create familiarity, it'sgoing to build your authority,
and all of this happens beforeyour first conversation.
The main thing that you'recommunicating is that, whatever
problem you're helping yourprospects solve, they're

(08:55):
starting to believe that it'spossible, that it's possible for
them, and now they're ready.
They're ready to say yes toyour offer, and this makes all
the difference.
So does video really work?
If your goal is to have salescalls where selling isn't even

(09:22):
necessary, then yes, it totallyworks.
The key is showing up in a waythat builds trust before the
call ever happens, and if youwant to create a set of mic drop
moment videos that make yournext client feel like they
already know you before theyeven meet you, we should talk.
The link is down below.
And remember you don't needmore content, you need more

(09:42):
connection, and I'll see younext time.
