(00:00):
Welcome back to Star Wars Escape Pod and another episode of Lightspeed.
(00:30):
Bringing you Star Wars news and headlines in under 15 minutes, this is Lightspeed presented
to you by Star Wars Escape Pod, once again back to slam out some Star Wars news and headlines
in under 15 minutes, and we got some real good stuff this week, so let's just dive right
(00:50):
in with a big happy birthday to Steve Sansweet.
Steve Sansweet is responsible for igniting the spark for collecting in many, following
his numerous Star Wars books, and a role he once held at Lucasfilm as the Director of Content
(01:12):
Management and Head of Fan Relations.
He is celebrating his 80th birthday today, and if you don't know, you can visit Steve
at Rancho Obi-Wan, just north of San Francisco.
So for anyone who is maybe going down to San Francisco, maybe giving California a big coastal
(01:34):
tour, definitely book your tickets, go visit Rancho Obi-Wan, seeing the most, the largest
private collection of Star Wars memorabilia in the world, recognized by the Guinness World
Records, we actually here at Star Wars Escape Pod paid them a visit last summer, and it
was quite something.
I've never seen so much Star Wars stuff in one place, other than the aisle at Toys R Us
(02:01):
back in the day when they used to have so much Star Wars stuff all at once, and I feel like
as the years have gone on, that trend has diminished.
But this is unreal.
I mean, you know, everything from some props, some relics of movie sets on the prequels,
to posters and statues and toys and things that you would never imagine in your wildest
(02:27):
dreams for somebody to have.
Steve has probably got it.
So definitely go and give them a visit, book your tickets.
So once again, happy birthday to Steve.
And you can always, if you can't book a ticket to go visit their collection, you can always
donate on their website and also consider becoming a member of Rancho Obi-Wan.
(02:50):
So big happy birthday to Steve.
And there's the plug for you, Steve, just for you.
Steve doesn't listen to us, I don't think.
But anyway, doing a solid.
All right.
New books and comics are on the horizon, guys, with The High Republic Fear of the Jedi, number
five coming out June 4th.
Oh, that's already out.
(03:10):
Jedi Knights, number four as well.
It's already out.
Bad Badge Ghost Agents, number four out on June 4th as well.
Ventress comes out and joins the story in there.
That's the Dark Horse series.
Another Dark Horse series is Hyperspace Stories Codebreaker.
On its second issue.
We also have Star Wars The High Republic Adventures coming out with issue 19 on June 11th.
(03:34):
And Star Wars issue number two for the new 2025 series coming out June 11th as well.
With the Rise of Skywalker adaption coming out on June 11th for its fifth issue, which is
pretty crazy.
The Acolyte, the visual guide coming out June 17th with Trials of the Jedi.
The finale, the staple novel that will cap off The High Republic, phase three, coming
(04:00):
out June 17th.
That one's written by Charles Soule.
So if anyone hasn't been catching up with The High Republic lately, maybe The Light of
the Jedi was the one and only book you read.
That's okay.
Anyway, this is kind of the official sequel to the Capstone, if you will.
Charles Soule did write The Light of the Jedi.
(04:20):
So this is his second big novel in that series.
There are the pillar novels, the Del Rey ones.
Those are a lot.
But I guess if you were to only read those ones, significantly less daunting of a task
than if you were to combine that with the young adults and the junior novels out there for
The High Republic project.
(04:40):
But, you know, if you only have so much time of the year, maybe consider picking up Trials
of the Jedi coming out June 17th.
The Acolyte, the visual guide, you remember those visual guides, is coming out June 17th.
And this is going to be everything all about The Acolyte TV show and might provide some insights
(05:04):
on perhaps some of the things you noticed, but were never confirmed.
So that comes out June 17th.
Dr. Aphra kicks off with another issue number one in 2025 on June 18th.
So for any fans of Dr. Aphra, you can look forward to a new series that will cross over
(05:27):
with the 2025 ongoing series, which is great.
And finally, Star Wars Insider 232 comes out June 24th.
Last but not least, Legacy of Vader issue number five, following the story of Kylo Ren
(05:47):
tracing his ancestry back to the days of Darth Vader, comes out June 25th as well.
All right.
So that's all our books and comics coming out soon.
In other news, Star Wars boss Kathleen Kennedy says it's remarkable that the first print
(06:10):
of George Lucas' 1977 original was found and screened after decades.
The discovery is called a miracle.
Recently in London, there was a film festival that actually screened the original first print
of George Lucas' Star Wars.
So a handful of lucky Star Wars fans got to witness the event, which is quite exciting
(06:36):
because I feel like almost no one's seen the original print since 1977.
So that's great news.
You can read up more about it on Variety.com.
Recently, Mark Hamill sat down to address a rumor that he quit Star Wars.
So we're just going to take a listen to that.
(06:59):
All your time.
You've said recently that you're done with Star Wars.
Is that safe to say?
Well, I don't want to make a big pronouncement like this is my decision.
I'm just saying that it really felt like a conclusion.
My character was given complete closure.
I died, ironically, by overdosing on the force, I might point out.
(07:23):
But, you know, that seemed to be...
And once the Skywalker trilogy was over, it was a whole new era for them.
George gave them this amazing canvas.
The entire galaxy.
They can do westerns, mysteries, comedies, you know, whodunits, anything within that realm
of the Star Wars.
And they're doing so well.
(07:45):
I love Rogue One, Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett.
I just think it's time.
I had my time.
I'm really appreciative.
But I'm really looking to the future for all these new projects.
But I do know when I mention anything about the space movies, it gets extra scrutiny as
(08:06):
opposed to me talking about anything else.
And I said that, and then I saw headlines, you know, Mark Hamill quits Star Wars.
Well, let me say, they haven't asked me.
It's not like they said, please come back.
And Luke died.
There's that, too.
Yeah, exactly.
I mean, come on.
How much can you do with a force ghost?
I'd like to see a movie set all in the force ghost realm.
(08:30):
You know, I could have conversations with Alec Guinness and all...
Oh, now you're giving them ideas.
From your lips to God's ears.
Hey, thanks for watching.
And don't forget, you can...
There you go.
There is Mark Hamill addressing the rumors about all that stuff.
So if any of you guys have seen headlines floating around, I mean, you know, we don't like to
talk about the gossip around here.
(08:50):
We just like to get straight to the facts.
So there you go.
There's the official word from Mark on how he quits Star Wars.
All right.
So last but not least is some news from our friends at Orbikey.
They have a massive sale going on.
And if you haven't seen our posts on Blue Sky and X, I hate calling it X.
You can call Twitter if you want.
(09:12):
But they've had a big sale going on recently.
And all the Star Wars stuff on their site has to go.
So if you've been eyeing up anything on Orbikey.com, when it has to do with something that has
to do with Star Wars, maybe it's a key chain or a nest box or a mat or a key ring or anything
like that, tote bags.
(09:32):
You know, it's a great time to pick those up because once they're gone, they're gone.
These are all limited edition Star Wars things being sold by Orbikey, designed by Orbikey.
And it's all really, really great quality stuff.
I mean, we've got we've had so many things that that have shown up and and we've taken
a look and, you know, no one's forcing it.
(09:54):
No one's holding a gun door.
I had to say good things about any of this stuff, but it is truly awesome.
And as you know, one of our co-hosts here on the podcast, Kirk, used to work with them.
And what a great company.
I mean, like everything about them.
Super awesome.
So definitely go and check them out and check out their stuff.
Once the Star Wars stuff is gone, it's out the door.
And who knows if any of it will ever come back?
(10:17):
They might change what they want to sell when it comes to special products like that.
So, you know, this is kind of the time to score any limited edition Star Wars stuff.
All of it is limited edition.
So definitely go check that out.
I'm going to leave a link in the description below.
And we have also been running a giveaway.
So three days left on the giveaway as of this very moment.
(10:41):
Please go and throw your name in the hat because, you know, it's we're giving away some Star Wars stuff from them on behalf of Orbeke.
And super generous of them to do.
So definitely throw your name in the hat.
And, you know, fingers crossed for you, for all of you guys.
We have 10 winners that can potentially walk away with anything between a Star Wars tote bag, a key organizer.
(11:06):
I think the Grogu one specifically and a nest box.
And I think that it's the Darth Vader nest box.
So we've got a handful.
Most people will be walking away with the tote bag.
But we got, you know, a small handful of those other two things, which maybe between two and four winners could walk away with possibly one of those other things.
(11:27):
So altogether, 10 winners in total.
And, you know, lots of we would possibly have even more if the website let us draw more names out of the hat.
But that is what we're able to do.
So 10 winners, three days, Star Wars Orbit Key giveaway right here, only here on Star Wars Escape Pod.
(11:50):
Go and click that link down in the description below, whether you're listening on YouTube or Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Good Pods, Stitcher, iHeart Radio, whatever it is.
Whatever platform you're on, find the description box down below the play button, expand it, and the link will be down there, along with the socials to Orbit Key, to Star Wars Escape Pod, and our new AI-based aftershow called Launchpad, which is kind of an experimental thing.
(12:22):
But, you know, you can go check that out if you want.
And if AI is not for you, you know, don't bother.
But go and follow Orbit Key on Instagram.
That is the number one requirement for throwing your name into the hat for the giveaway.
If you follow the link to the Gleam page, that'll be the first way and only way to get two entries in on the giveaway, two entries with your name on it.
(12:44):
And then more ways to win will be unlocked after you do that.
So the more things you do, the more ways to enter will show up.
And I believe you can enter the most amount.
If you do everything, it gives you a bonus entry.
And I think it racks up to a possible total 12 or 10 entries per person if you do absolutely everything, which for a lot of people might not be possible if they don't have Blue Sky or if they don't have X or whatever.
(13:11):
So there's many ways to do it.
But the first and only requirement you have to do when you get to that page is sign up and then follow Orbit Key on their Instagram.
So stay following them because, you know, they got great stuff coming down the road, no doubt.
And, of course, we're going to announce the winners of the giveaway.
And, you know, so you don't.
(13:32):
Yeah, it's coming.
It's coming.
So definitely stay followed to them so that you still have a chance to do that, to win, that is.
And, you know, we wish you all the best with whoever wins.
So, yeah, stay tuned.
We're going to announce the winners here on our next episode.
And we're also going to be posting on our Blue Sky and our X the first names with the last initial of our 10 winners when we do that.
(13:58):
And if you save the link or if you come back to this episode for the link to that giveaway, the winners will be posted on the finale page.
Now, I got to say this as well.
Well, we're only going to be able to hold your name as a winner for I think it's in the instructions when you when you do the giveaway.
(14:21):
But I think we said 48 hours.
So make sure you check your email, whatever email you sign up with, go and check that email, whether or not you win.
We're going to be reaching out to all of your winners right away.
So, you know, that way you have a full two days to get back to us.
And if you don't get back to us in those two days, we will have to redraw names because the clock is ticking on on the giveaway itself and also giving away Star Wars stuff from Orbit Key.
(14:47):
So so go and check out the sale, go and check out the giveaway.
And that is all the news that we have this week for this week's Lightspeed.
Our next episode of Star Wars Escape Pod, you can look forward to just some casual banter, a few things that we have planned.
It's going to be fun.
So you can look forward to all of that.
(15:08):
All right.
May the force be with you guys.
We'll see you in the next one.
We'll see you in the next one.
