Welcome back to Star Wars Escape Pod and another episode of Lightspeed
(00:26):
bringing you Star Wars news and headlines in under 15 minutes this is Lightspeed issue number 36
here we are in the month of September with only about a year to go until the Mandalorian and
Grogu hits theaters and as of today the Mandalorian Grogu first teaser trailer has
(00:51):
been officially revealed to the public outside of a convention because of course anyone who has gone
to the most recent Star Wars celebration or Comic-Con may have caught a glimpse of the show's
active production and little bits and pieces of a trailer here or there but but here we are
(01:13):
and it's officially out there the next Star Wars film featuring the clan of two opens exclusively
in theaters May 22nd 2026 so if you're searching for a new adventure this is the way uh this will be
(01:34):
the fourth installment into the Mandalorian story technically the fifth if you count the book of
Boba Fett we are still very anxiously awaiting the release of a blu-ray steel book for the book of
Boba Fett among uh with a few others and or season two and uh the skeleton crew show and the acolyte
(01:56):
you know there's a few that we're still waiting on but uh hopefully one day it'll come and uh you know
another movie to add to your shelf the Mandalorian and Grogu so starwars.com writes about the movie
and they say this the evil empire has fallen and imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the
(02:18):
galaxy as the fledgling new republic works to protect everything the rebellion fought for
they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin played by the one and only
Pedro Pascal and his young apprentice Grogu playing himself of course the clan of two is ready for the
(02:38):
fight a brand new razor crest has landed in our first look at the highly anticipated next chapter
in the Mandalorian story alongside glimpses of Din Djarin and Grogu on their next adventure and with
that released a little teaser trailer and uh we are going to uh take a quick listen in just a moment
(03:04):
here but um before we do that they write a little bit more here uh we see Grogu with his new and
zealand friends and using a tiny telescope as he works alongside Din Djarin the Mandalorian
Zeb Aurelius is back from star wars rebels featured in the poster art that also includes
(03:26):
Sigourney Weaver's new character and a pair of huts which uh i don't believe we've ever seen in live
action before but they might be the same huts that have been introduced in the star wars marvel comic
book series from toppling imperial remnant AT-ATs to venturing into a gladiator fight where the
creatures from Dejaric have become larger than life an impressive hut can be glimpsed in silhouette
(03:50):
the Mandalorian and Grogu are on a course for action and adventure
and we are definitely looking forward to that the film is directed by John Favreau who is also
producing alongside Kathleen Kennedy Dave Filoni and Ian Bryce the film's music is composed uh by
(04:12):
Ludwig Goranson who also composed the Mandalorian series returning to the score of the franchise once
more the Mandalorian and Grogu embark on their most thrilling mission yet in Lucasfilms
Star Wars the Mandalorian and Grogu an all-new Star Wars adventure filmed for IMAX
opening exclusively in theaters May 22nd 2006 let's take a listen
(04:36):
(04:57):
(05:27):
Impressive.
(05:57):
Good shot, baby.
All right, May 22, 2026.
Looking forward to it.
In other news, the most recent continuation of the Star Wars Rebuild the Galaxy has come to Disney+.
(06:19):
The sequel miniseries is called Pieces of the Past.
And this is also, I think, four episodes long, similar to the first miniseries.
The main criticism of Pieces of the Past is that it could have possibly been a little bit longer.
But generally speaking, everyone has been very, very happy with it.
(06:39):
I have actually yet to see it, but it's on Disney Plus right now and gaining a lot of hype.
So, you know, if you're looking for a fun little Star Wars adventure that, you know, jump back into the world of Star Wars Lego,
and, you know, Rebuild the Galaxy Pieces of the Past is definitely a fun little thing that you can smash out in about an hour or two.
(07:01):
And, yeah, I mean, you know, it is what it is.
All right.
I mean, who knows if we'll get a third one.
I haven't seen it yet.
So maybe it sets it up for another installment.
But, you know, it sounds like maybe they'll keep doing this on an annual basis, similar to the Tales of series.
(07:25):
Tales of the Jedi, Tales of the Empire, Tales of the Underworld.
So I guess we'll maybe get something similar from the Lego world.
And Lego has a history of making a lot of media with the Star Wars license, a lot of fans of the Lego Star Wars.
And so, you know, we're going to have to ask Blake what his thoughts were next week on the show as to what he thought of pieces of the past of the Rebuild the Galaxy series.
(07:53):
But, yeah, we're having a good we're having a good time with that and we'll be we'll be checking that that out pretty soon.
All right.
The Star Wars December 2025 comics preview is out.
The Bad Batch has a new mission.
Kylo Ren puts on Vader's helmet and so much more.
The Legacy of Vader is hitting issue number 11 already as of December 3rd.
(08:18):
And lots of stuff, you know, exciting about that series, which is sort of the answer to what's the next Darth Vader miniseries or limited series that we can do.
They've already done three and I think they've run out of time to really fit more stories into Vader's time frame while he exists in the galaxy.
(08:43):
So the Legacy of the Legacy of Darth Vader, Kylo Ren story is is a very interesting idea.
And I have yet to dive into it personally, but I hear many good things.
And as as a reader of two out of the existing three or four series that they've done now, I've read the first two and they are highly, highly recommended.
(09:05):
The series written by Charles Soule.
So definitely go and check those out.
And Legacy of Vader might be might be interesting as well.
So go and check that out.
Hyperspace stories, Tides of Terror, issue number four, hitting December 3rd.
The hyperspace stories is as a wide array of Star Wars stories from across the galaxy.
(09:26):
So that might be for you as well.
Young Jedi Adventures, the trainings, the training sessions will be available December 9th.
And this, I guess, would cross over with the the the the junior animated series.
Very cool.
Han Solo Hunt for the Falcon, issue number four, available December 10th.
(09:48):
Hunt for the Falcon is one of the Han Solo limited series that they have done before.
They've done a few of them in the past.
The first one taking place around the Star Wars series.
And then they did a young Han Solo series once Solo became a thing.
And now they're back with Han Solo as an older gent with his sidekick Chewbacca hunting down the Millennium Falcon.
(10:12):
And as there are many adventures, take them on a journey prior to The Force Awakens, bridging the gap with Han Solo's adventures and his appearance in the sequel film.
So, you know, anyone looking to try and fill some gaps there.
It's an ongoing series and very early on still only on issue four, available December 10th.
(10:34):
So you can probably still pick up a few of those single issues.
First prints, I would imagine.
Jedi Knights issue number 10 is hitting December 17th.
The Jedi Knights saga is sort of spanning, I guess, before the Phantom Menace because Qui-Gon is a character inside this series.
(10:57):
And, you know, interestingly enough, we'll be telling stories with various different Jedis within the Order.
And so far, so good is what I hear.
The Bad Batch Rogue Agents number one is kicking off another Bad Batch adventure available December 17th.
(11:20):
The last miniseries that they did within the Bad Batch storyline, I guess, was Ghosts.
I think it was called Ghost Agents.
And that was Ghost something or another.
Anyway, so, yeah, this is sort of a, I guess, a continuation in its own series, its own format.
(11:41):
And, you know, probably will also run for about four or five issues.
I think this is a four issue miniseries.
And, of course, the main storyline, Star Wars issue number eight takes the shelves on December 24th on Christmas Eve.
Star Wars issue number eight is the third main Star Wars titled series that they have done ever since Marvel took the license.
(12:08):
They have been going sort of before or, I guess, after episode four for the first series, after episode five for the second series.
And the third series now being issue number eight coming out December 24th is part of the series that takes place after episode six.
So, you know, a new a new era that they're working in right now.
And that era has only kicked off this past year.
(12:30):
So if anyone wants to jump into the Star Wars Marvel comics and doesn't really know where to start,
the main Star Wars series for 2025 is a great place to start.
There's also one issue that they did come out with called A New Legacy.
That's a one shot adventure that you can look up, try and find at the comic book stores.
(12:51):
Those issues are sort of a one a one shot start starting point for anyone looking to get into the Star Wars comic world in recent times.
And, you know, I think it's a great starting point because not only does it kick you off into the main Star Wars series,
but it also introduces you to familiar characters that have been introduced in Marvel comics over the years,
(13:16):
such as Dr. Aphra and some other some other funny named characters that are I'm blanking on right now.
But those are, I think, all in this this launch pad one shot issue.
So definitely go and look up Star Wars A New Legacy and you can kind of choose where to go from there.
(13:39):
Either the Star Wars series, the Dr. Aphra series or, you know, so on and so forth.
The, you know, Legacy of Vader, whatever.
Who knows?
All right.
Who knows what they'll do?
Sometimes they come out with even new series down the road after the launch point.
So, you know, stay tuned for that.
But right now, Dr. Aphra and Star Wars, the places to, the places to look.
(14:02):
Dr. Aphra, for anyone who is interested, is also running a new series right now called Chaos Agent.
And right now, I believe there are three issues released under that title.
So any fans of Dr. Aphra are going to be looking for that.
Boba Fett has kicked off things with a new label as well.
Joining the Black, White and Red Club.
(14:23):
Boba Fett issue number four for Boba Fett, Black, White and Red is hitting shelves December 31st, right before the new year.
Both Darth Vader and Darth Maul have received a Black, White and Red miniseries.
So this story is featuring, it's kind of the same art style, but featuring Boba Fett.
(14:44):
And the colors they use, if you guessed, in the artwork are none other than black, white and red.
And maybe a bit of gray in there too.
Well, that sums things up for the literature coming down the road here.
And, you know, we do look forward to reporting in with a full Star Wars Escape Pod episode for you next week or so.
(15:05):
We are rapidly approaching episode number 400, which blows my mind.
And we're probably going to be getting around to that one sometime in November,
which will be released sometime in November or come out early November.
But the last couple episodes that you might want to look for that were really great was Can't Seen the Banter issue number five,
where we called Kirk down at Disneyland.
(15:27):
We talk a little bit about the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle game.
On September 8th, we had an episode come out which talked all about Starfighter
and the cast for that new movie coming out in two years from now, which is shooting right now.
We also had a six-year celebration in that episode looking back at Star Wars Escape Pod over the last six years.
(15:48):
We had a special guest join us the week before on September 1st.
We had Young and Star Wars, a contemporary mythology by Dr. Steve Ellerhoff.
So he joined us from over the holonet and from a planet, from a system not too far away.
He was an awesome special guest.
And I highly recommend anyone check out that episode, which drops September 1st,
(16:10):
because we had a really great time with Steve.
And Steve is launching a new book, which if anyone's interested in the narrative,
the roots of all Star Wars storytelling, definitely go and check out that episode.
Take a listen.
Go and check out his book online.
You can buy hardcover, paperback, I think, as well, and e-book copies right now.
(16:31):
I believe it's all three of those formats, if not just e-book and paperback, maybe.
But the link is in the podcast description box, so definitely check that out.
We had Cantina Banter 4 the week before that, August 25th.
We talked a little bit about the Star Wars Robot Library that came out in Singapore,
as well as the future of character Cara Dune, and celebrating 100,000 downloads.
(16:58):
The week before that, Cantina Banter, issue number three, took some news,
took some time to go over the news from San Diego Comic-Con 2025.
We talked a little about the George Lucas Museum coming soon, next year even,
and some new publishing news.
And finally, the week before that, August 11th, we talked about the New Jedi Order era,
(17:22):
and how the Force Collector book ties into the New Jedi Order era,
speculating on what they could do with the Rey movie,
and how the Rise of Skywalker hints as to what's to come.
So, with November approaching and 400 episodes very soon,
with six years behind us,
we thank you all once again for being such a great audience member
(17:45):
to Star Wars Escape Pod for trying out all our little experiments over the years,
for subscribing to our YouTube channel,
using the handle at SWEscapePodcast in the search to easily find it.
Definitely go and check out all the links in the description box,
and follow the socials,
BlueSky and X.
We have accounts on both, so, you know, flexible.
(18:08):
And, you know, last but not least,
sharing the show with a friend and leaving a really nice review,
like five stars on iTunes or Spotify,
really, really helps us out,
because, you know, it does give other fans a chance
to find the show a little bit better.
And as some people don't know,
there are actually over, I think,
(18:29):
three or four thousand Star Wars podcasts now on the internet.
And if you're a big fan of Star Wars Escape Pod,
and you want to help us out, you know,
reviews and five stars really does do a lot,
because it improves the chance of searching Star Wars Escape Pod
in the algorithms across all podcast apps,
whichever one you're using,
if you have the ability to give us a nice, generous rating,
(18:53):
it really does help us out.
And it helps other people find the show.
So that's very kind of all of you guys to do.
So, you know, thank you again for that.
And, well, that sums it up.
So we are way past our 15 minutes,
as far as typical light speeds tend to go.
But we will see you in the next episode of Star Wars Escape Pod.
(19:17):
May the Force be with you.
Shoot us an email with your thoughts, feedback, and compliments.
