Speaker 1 (00:00):
Coming up this week brutal fishy battles and
frustration carnage.
No gee, thank you autocorrect, but I knew what I wanted to say.
Take two Coming up this weekbrutal fishy battles and
crustacean carnage.
It's the Clone Wars, seasonsfour, season four, episodes one

(00:21):
through three.
I swear I've done this before.
All that and more on your StarWars Safe Space.
Stick around Already off to abumpy start, but that's okay,

(00:45):
that's all right.
Howdy Star Warriors, welcome toStar Wars Safe Space, your
non-toxic, low-sodium Star Warsshow.
That doesn't make you feel badfor not knowing that Prince Lee
Char was named after CharlieTuna, the cartoon mascot for the
Starkist brand.
So, whether you're a hardcorefan or just a little swarzy

(01:06):
curious, this is your Star Warssafe space.
Welcome.
We are the circle of nerds andwe do absolutely love Star Wars,
even if we don't always like it.
So let's meet the crew.
Shadowware, let's pop thiswindow open right here and from
parts unknown, it is T to theO-D-O-D-O-D-O.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Welcome back to the galaxy.
Everybody Look forward tostarting season four.
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
And the pilot of the infamous Parma Flyer.
It's Crash.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
How are you guys doing?
S-foils in ready to roll.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Love it, and I am, tommy D.
You're just a little more thanslightly obnoxious.
Star Wars know it all.
What are we doing here?
Well, our mission is to watchall of the canon Star Wars films
and TV shows in actualchronological order, not based
on the release, but the actualchronological order.
Not based on the release, butthe actual chronological order,
breaking them down, connectingthe dots and learning more about

(02:09):
star wars and maybe even alittle about ourselves.
So a word of warning to all youwould be star warriors there
will be spoilers.
You have been warned.
You have been warned.
So before we get rolling, do wehave any news or anything?
I thought we did, but I I don'tremember, so I'm gonna say

(02:30):
probably no, no, no, no no newsis good news, I guess.
So when it there, we go.
That's, that's our news.
Crickets, nothing.
Um.
Skeleton crew just wrapped.
So if you uh haven't heard ourpodcast on that, please go check
out skeleton crew review righthere on this very channel that

(02:52):
you are watching or listening tous on right now.
It was a hell of a ride, greatseries.
If you haven't seen it, give ita shot.
Um, absolutely worth binging.
So every episode is out rightnow disney plus.
Please go watch it.
It is by far, in my opinion, the greatest star wars

(03:15):
television show in the historyof the franchise, except for,
maybe, the holiday special and,uh, that's my, that's my hill
and I'm gonna die on it.
So there you go.
So what are we talking aboutthis season for our show?
We were talking about seasonfour of the clone wars, and good

(03:35):
, googa mooga.
Do we get started off hard likewe jump into a war, people are
getting sauced left and rightand people are dying harsh.
People are dying harsh.
However, in this, this arc thatwe're going to be talking about

(03:58):
, it's the, uh, the the moncalacivil war.
First three episodes.
I have to say, being a seafoodlover, as I'm watching these
episodes, I was constantlyhungry, like maybe, maybe that's
insensitive.
I'm insensitive to the plightof the Mon Cal people.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
However, I they were making me kind of hungry, so we
should have recorded the set ofRed Lobster, is what you're
saying.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
That's a great idea.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
George named them after food.
This is his fault.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
It is.
It is.
Yeah, there was actually.
What is his name?
I had it pulled up here.
Phil Tippett, the guy whodesigned Admiral Ackbar, did
indeed name the Mon Calamariafter a lunch of calamari salad
that he had had earlier in theday.

(04:57):
So that is a fact.
The Mon Calamari race wasindeed named after food.
So you gotta love it.
You gotta love it.
So let's talk about this.
This is season four and we've,uh, we've talked about it a
little bit, um, on our our pastseasons of of this podcast.

(05:19):
Uh, and we've kind of beenbuilding up to season four
because we know, for those of usthat have seen it, we know that
things do get a little bitheavier as we, as we start to
progress, um, in the series.
We've only got, I think we'veonly got one more, maybe two

(05:39):
more full seasons.
I think I think season fivethis is this might be the last
full season, to be honest um,because everything's been 22
episodes up to this point, um,and then, yeah, season five is
20 episodes, season six is 13and then season seven is 12
episodes.
So we are, uh, we are veryquickly closing in on the end of

(06:02):
the clone wars here and it it'sman, it's just going to start
getting crazy.
I'd like to talk about thesethree episodes, this Civil War.
Initially it was really anunderwater war.

(06:22):
I mean, really, this is goingto be boring.
Action packed.
Action packed a little bit ofpolitical intrigue, some, some
light torture.
Um, people being imploded tobits what the fuck like I I've

(06:43):
seen this before, but I justre-watched them today.
Um, I forgot about that, like,so you know what?
Let's?
Let's just start there.
Let's just start there withwith riff.
Um, that guy riff tamson hislittle, his little blades with

(07:03):
the implosion detonator on it.
That's harsh.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
That's a brutal way to die for an underwater species
and it's interesting.
I don't know if, tony, youthought this too or you picked
up on this.
I think this is the first timein star wars history we've seen
war or anything really happeningin an environment where the
humans had to adapt to theirsurroundings.

(07:34):
Moncals can function in air.
Uh, gans zuck is a species.
They're supposedly from a gasplanet.
They wear masks to live in ourworld.
This is the first time I thinkwe've seen humans having to wear
.
Spacewalking is one thing, butto operate on Mon Cal you have
to wear scuba gear, deep-seascuba gear, as we find out with

(07:58):
Padme, somebody decides to biteyour face mask and put a crack
in it.
Unless you have a gunk in handy, you're in trouble.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
Unless you've got a a gungan to talk to on that.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
Gungan, that you know .
Spits flex seal, you know putsome, put some, some.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
gungan, I don't know what, what, what is?
Is it Gungan?

Speaker 3 (08:23):
I don't know what is it he?

Speaker 1 (08:25):
called it.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
Bukasi Gungan waterproofing.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
That's why we supposed to look at it.
Yeah, it is, it's Gungan FlexSeal.
I love that.
I just so, overall, what areyour thoughts on this story arc?
I thought it was prettyinteresting.
I thought, not going to lie, Ithought Lee Char was was gonna
die um, because I haven't seenthis in years, I have not seen
the story arc in many, manyyears and for some reason I

(08:53):
thought that he was gonna.
Like he ended up sacrificinghimself.
But, spoiler, he doesn't.
He survives.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
So thoughts, thoughts , thoughts we're kicking off I
thought it was a really great,uh great storyline.
A quick, you know, immediate, just jump back into action, you
know, um, I mean, I guess mybiggest takeaways are uh, it
looks to me like ahsoka's donesome major leveling up between
going into the season becausenew lightsaber doing yeah, and

(09:23):
that's a much, much like.
I'm sorry, you know, you gotkit fisto there who apparently
can breathe underwater, justfine.
You got anakin there and I'mpretty sure that her kill count
beat both of them like she wasrunning her shit.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Yeah, snips don't play no, snips does not play.
There was that when, um, shehad this little spin move at one
point, like she like droppeddown, spun around and took out I
think it was droids she tookout like sex droids all at once,
yeah yeah, yeah, um, but yeah, people like moncal and quorin

(10:02):
were.
They were in gungans as well.
I mean, they were gettingsauced left and right.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
Yeah, we do need to add.
We do need to add one to the,to the clone count who, who I
decided to name Sharkbite,sharkbite.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Yeah, yeah, exactly, yeah, exactly, um at first it
looked like he was getting biton the ass initially, but it
looked like got him on his leg,did he?
Do we know if he died?
Do we know if shark bite who haha died?

Speaker 2 (10:37):
I mean if, if not even if the bite didn't kill him
, that broke his suit and he'sgonna be drowning like he's
definitely gone.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Yeah, maybe he depressurized potentially and
can we just, you know, goingback to the gungans, another
great thing about this thisthere's.
There's a lot again a littlepolitical intrigue.
Uh, we're going to find out inthis season early on.
We're seeing hints of theseparatists going after specific
worlds and playing off of thecultural differences.

(11:07):
The Quarren and the Mon Calthing was covered in the micro
series, but I think this is oneof those cases where Dave did it
so much better than just aquick five minute.
Let's just throw a lot ofdroids and a lot of fish guys at
each other.
You had the Quarren, you hadthe Mon Cals, you had the corn.
You had the moncals, you hadthe gungans come in.
I like the fact that when therepublic runs out of troops this

(11:29):
is the first time we've seenthe republic go we need a native
again.
This goes back to the having toadapt your surroundings.
It would take too long tooutfit a regiment of clones
right, but you have species outthere in the republic who can
fight in water.
We need to enlist their helpand I think this was a great.
I know on this show we kind ofget a little down on Jar Jar

(11:52):
about how silly, but this was agreat chance for the Gungans and
Jar Jar to shine, in thatthey're fighting on their turf
now.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
Right, yeah, right, right, right.
And you know, and interestingtoo, crash, you brought up, you
know, seeing um, seeing this, this, this rivalry, uh, this
cultural rivalry, rivalrybetween the the quoran and the
moncal, and we did see it in themicro series, um, but it goes
back to 1987.
I recently found out, like uh,in one of the uh the source

(12:22):
books, the star wars source book, um, in 1987 it was depicted
that the two, the two, shared aplanet and were were always at
odds.
So this is, this is a long, along, long reaching war, um, but
it was, it was very, uh, veryinteresting seeing the dynamic

(12:45):
between um leechar and the andand um captain akbar, I, I

(13:07):
really, really respecting the,the prince's authority well, you
think about he really.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
You know leechar literally was looking for a
father figure.
He just had his father murdered.
Yeah, as this war, it justfalls into his lap.
And you know akbar captainakbar did a great job of
mentoring somebody in a crisiswithout overshadowing.
Or maybe you know behind, youknow the man behind the man kind

(13:38):
of thing which would have beenan easy trap to fall into.
You know, with a young prince, prince, we've seen this in
history, in other stories, wherethe people who run the army
might sort of tell the leader ofthe kingdom here's what you do,
these are my men who fight foryou.

(14:00):
Do what I say.
Akbar was a great role modelfor Lee Char.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
You've got to think that's going gonna carry on as
we find akbar later in liferight, absolutely, and I I like
there was, um, there was amoment, I believe was in the
second episode, um, where, uh,or was it the first?
When did they, when did theyrelease the, the giant, the

(14:26):
squid, the jellyfish, the, theMedusa?

Speaker 3 (14:29):
The Medusa they.
They dropped them at the end ofthe first episode.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
They, they retreated, and then they dropped the
Medusa's and then they broughtout the, the squid ships, later.
That's right, that's right,that's right.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
But it was interesting because, uh, you
know akbar, like you said, really did a great job mentoring
him at that time.
Because you know he said holdfire until the prince orders the
attack.
And akbar knows, he knows whento fire, he knows that the
optimal moment, but instead ofcalling it himself, he

(15:06):
discreetly looks over hisshoulder and says prince, now
you know and, and allows theprince to give the order, um,
and, and thus really showing himthat respect.
And that's I was, because wereally don't see akbar a lot.
You and everybody just knowshim.

(15:26):
You know it's a trap, you knowthat's what we get, and in the
first episode he's like it's anattack, which I thought was
great.
That was a nice little nod.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
Just think about the fact that you know Darth Vader
and Admiral Ackbar foughttogether in this war, you know.
And then later on, you know, wedon't I'm I'm guessing Ackbar
doesn't know who Darth Vader is.
You know, really.
But this was kind of athrowback to last season,
introducing a young Tarkin toAnakin, where we know Tarkin

(15:57):
grew up sort of exploiting thatpartnership to his advantage.
You know, you know the idea ofyou put your admiral akbar
action figure next to your darthvader action figure and go
buddies.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Yeah, no one would have thought of that no, and
that's and that's a great pointtoo.
It's, you know, you don't likewhen you initially watch the
episode.
You don't, you don't reallythink about that, you don't
really think.
You know this is Darth Vaderand Admiral Ackbar, who will

(16:35):
eventually be facing off againstone another.
Ackbar eventually sends Vader'sflagship into the Death Star.
You know, I mean you know, almost two decades later, you
know, after this moment, whenthey're fighting side by side,

(16:56):
and it's just, it's a deep cut,it's a deep cut Even in the
American.

Speaker 3 (17:04):
Civil War you know Robert E Lee and a lot of the
Confederate generals.
They were formerly from the USArmy.
They knew the US General.
So in a Star Wars setting youwould think when Luke says you
fought in the Clone Wars, therewere people from the same side
and this also plays into theSeparatists.
People sort of correlate theEmpire to the Republic and this

(17:24):
is also lays into theseparatists.
You know people sort ofcorrelate the empire to the
Republic and the separatists tothe rebellion.
But there were people kind ofcrossing teams between wars and
this is just one of those rareinstances where we have, you
know, the leader of the one.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
You know army is also no, and it's, it's nice to see
it's and that's another.
It's like if you've never seenstar wars, this is a great way
to watch.
The clone wars is in thischronological order.
Some people would argue against, but if you have seen star wars

(18:04):
, I think going back andwatching it again in this order
and then drawing those parallels, I think it really, it really
kind of enriches the entireexperience.
For me anyway, it does.
You know you're seeing likeagain, I thought that you know
Anakin and Tarkin.
You know on the, what is it the?

(18:27):
prison the Citadel.
That was great.
I mean, that was really thatmutual respect that started
forming between the two.
And then it just makes youwonder about the the first time
we see them together on the bigscreen, you know, in the new
hope, and you know Tarkin's kindof like calling the shots,

(18:48):
almost like, uh, vader's moreenforcer than Sith Lord at that
point, which you know, initiallythat's what george intended,
you know, but um, but then itmakes you wonder was, was that
just tarkin?
You know that was a role thattarkin was playing.
You know, obviously vader wasthe one in charge there.

(19:11):
But you know, maybe, maybeVader was allowing Tarkin to to
play that role in front of hisofficers.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
And conversely, you know, akbar technically knows
Luke and Leia's mom fought withher too, you know, and there's,
you know, and later he servedwith Leia in the rebellion later
he served with Leia in theRebellion, mm-hmm, and it does
make you wonder if it may besomewhere that we just haven't
read it yet.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
But did Ackbar know?
Did Ackbar know about?
I don't think anyone knew aboutthe twins.
I don't think that was at allcommon knowledge.

Speaker 3 (19:52):
Really there's a post-Return of the Jedi book
where a New Republic senatorouted Leia's parentage to Darth
Vader.
So eventually it does becomepublic knowledge that she is
Vader's daughter.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
Right.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
Does that mean that the world knows who Vader was
Right?
Clark Kent to Superman?

Speaker 1 (20:14):
I don't know, but you know, from darth vader to leia,
it eventually becomes publicknowledge right, and I think
vader was one of those, one ofthose, like you know, worst kept
secrets.
You know, amongst, probably, the imperial officers.
I'm I'm positive more peopleknew that vader was general

(20:37):
anakin skywalker.
I'm I'm positive more peopleknew about it because you know
clone troopers talk.
You know the uh, the um god, what were those guys called?
The attendants?
Those weird creepy guys thatwould hang out with palpatine?
You know entourage, you knowthey talked, they whispered in

(20:59):
certain circles, so I'm prettysure that you know.
And also to keep people, youknow exactly where he needed
them to be.
I'm sure palpatine, quoteunquote, leaked that information
.
You, you know he used that ascurrency, he used that as
leverage and Darth Vader's trueidentity.

Speaker 3 (21:20):
I bet Thrawn knew.
Thrawn probably knew, you know.
When they gave Ahsoka's bio andhe saw that she was trained by
Anakin Skywalker, he knewexactly what that meant and what
type of personality that meantand there's no way he could have
worked that closely with Vaderand not known.
All right, you can assume anidentity and change you know,
call yourself by a differentname, but I know who you are.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
Thrawn's.
Thrawn is so smart I mean he'she's really freaky, scary smart.
So if, if he didn't piece ittogether um, if he didn't piece
it together, then I would bevery surprised if he didn't know
.
But I didn't actually watchevery episode of Rebels, so I'm

(22:04):
really, really looking forwardto that.
We're going to be hitting thatonce we're done with the Clone
Wars, so I'm looking forward tothat.
So I don't know how oftenthrawn and vader interacted
during rebels, so that I'm notaware of, and I don't want to be
aware of it because I want to.
I want to find out.
As far as I know, vader onlymade one appearance in rebels

(22:31):
and that was that the most epicappearance of vader, arguably
floating down, standing on histie fighter.
Okay, come on, come on player.
Come on, come on pimp.
I mean, like, do you really?
You did not have to come inlike that, you did not have to
do that.
I can't wait to watch it again.

Speaker 2 (22:52):
It's such a good scene is that the one where
where you see his cape billowing, which shouldn't even be able
to happen in space?

Speaker 3 (22:59):
well, they're on a planet, they're in an atmosphere
on a planet.

Speaker 1 (23:02):
Yeah, yeah, they're, they're in it.
And you know what, if I were,if I were vader, I would use the
force to make my cape billow, because why?

Speaker 2 (23:12):
not like I wouldn't care I wouldn't care.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
I wouldn't care if there's if there's atmosphere or
not.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
I'm gonna use the force to make it look even
cooler than you'd have a mousedroid with one of those beyonce
fans that just makes the hairwherever he goes.
Just walk down the hallway withthe hair, the cape flow and
beyonce style right, why not?

Speaker 1 (23:33):
um, all right, so we're way off track.
At least we're still talkingabout star war, so I guess
there's that.
Um, so we've got the?
Uh this, this mon cal, thiswater war, um, as they're
calling it, and um, we get tosee these really really cool new
species.

(23:53):
Um, and uh, riff tam and the uhtheir car card, car, car don,
car, car don, car car don.
Is that right, car, car don Idon't think that's right yeah, I
don't know they.
they mentioned it.
They mentioned the shark people.
They were creepy, they were baddudes and the way that he was

(24:22):
killing people, he was reallyinflicting damage with no
weapons.

Speaker 3 (24:32):
And just the nature of their species.
You can see the sharktendencies the way they they
they fought in honda.
You know, when they executesomebody they circle around them
first and like kind of throwyou off which one's going to
strike.
The sea world junkie in me waslike just loving the, the
metaphor and the symbolism ofthat species invading another

(24:56):
water world's planet.
Basically, the Quarren thoughtthey were literally joining the
Separatists to take control oftheir planet and the first thing
you find out is oh hey, theshark people decided nope, this
is ours.

Speaker 2 (25:06):
We had a side deal with.

Speaker 3 (25:07):
Dooku and we're the boss, so we got screwed right
away.

Speaker 1 (25:12):
And we're seeing more of that from dooku.
You know we didn't get a wholelot of that in the first three
seasons.
We knew that he was, you know,a manipulative bastard, but you
know, now we're really startingto see just how far he's fallen.
You know, like at one point youcould accept him as an
anti-hero as well, but he's just, he's just so far gone.

(25:35):
At this point, you know, he'sagain willing to enslave
multiple species, and it's noteven about restoring, you know,
peace and order to the galaxy orthe republic.

Speaker 3 (25:47):
Now, it's just it's not about fair share.
It's about I'm in control andthey're and my master gets the,
you know the final say oneverything anyways right.

Speaker 1 (25:57):
Um, so there was at the the last, the last few
moments of riff tamson.
Um, it was a very cool jawsmoment.
Um, I don't know if you guyshave seen Jaws, I assume so he
had the, he had the little theexplosive on him and he's

(26:21):
swimming and you know, you'vegot the prince shooting at him
and missing.
And it was just.
I assumed that they did this onpurpose, but it just reminded
me of that last scene in Jaws, with Jaws has got the fuel tank
in its mouth.

Speaker 3 (26:37):
They even did the big explosion and you hear the
shark.
I think they in Jaws they referto it as like the Godzilla
sinking into the ocean, the headfloats by.
It was a great symbolismmetaphor for a water battle.
Jaws is an iconic water battlebetween a man and a shark.

(27:00):
So of course, when you're goingto blow up an evil shark dude,
you go for the Jaws.
Smile, you, son of a bitch.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
Smile you, son of a bitch.
I really wish that was a missedopportunity.
Mean, I know, I don't think, Idon't think lee char would have
said obviously not smile you,son of a bitch.
But I mean he could have saidmaybe that would have been too
much on, too on the nose, youknow, you know, smile you nerve
herder or something.
I mean, you know, you know, I Idon't know, but uh, I feel like

(27:33):
that was a missed opportunitythey really could have.
But they, they, they put thethe little subtle jaw jaws not
in there.
So I mean I guess we can't bebad at that.
But overall I think these werethree pretty good episodes, um,
pretty good way to kick offseason four.
What do you think, god?

Speaker 3 (27:54):
oh, I was gonna say great, great start, um nice to
see, uh, again a different styleof of star wars combat, you
know, underwater I I'm curious.
Yeah, we know they, they have a.
I don't know if there'sliterally a SEAL team for the
Republic of Clones thatliterally trained for water

(28:16):
battles on Kamino, or do theyhave to get special training?
Do the Jedi, do Padawans gettraining on how to do extended
deep sea diving on Mon Calhoun?
I don't know, but it was aninteresting kind of peek at a
different world that we have notbeen exposed to live action,
animated.
You know it's been covered inthe books but anybody can.

(28:38):
You can kind of visualize thatin different ways.
To actually see themfunctioning in water worlds was
kind of fun absolutely couldn'tagree more.

Speaker 2 (28:48):
It's always fascinating, you know and I do
appreciate that we that we getthings like this, where we
didn't get that much in themovies, where again it's a vast
galaxy, there's thousands ofdifferent planets and they're
not all going to be planets likeEarth, they're not all going to
be land-based.
So I really do appreciategetting a deeper look at that.

Speaker 1 (29:14):
I liked seeing the variation on the Clone Trooper
armor.
I loved seeing the Clone ScubaTroopers.
I thought that was really, really cool.
What was the commander's name?

(29:36):
I don't remember now.
They said his name a few times.
I yeah, he had some really coolmarkings on his shoulders monk,
commander monk monk.
I kept thinking like the, the tvshow monk yeah, um, yeah, and

(29:56):
he served under under kit fisto.
Um, yeah, really cool, like, uh, really cool markings, um, they
look like, uh, like a krakenhead or something.
But, um, you know, and speakingof kit fisto, let's talk about
this guy.
He is such a cool jedi, he issuch a cool dude.

(30:17):
Um, on the side of one of hisuh, uh, one of the gunships that
uh, you know for for thecompany that he commands,
there's a, there's a paintingyou know how they all have the
nose art on some of the gunships.
So there's a painting of a bombthat looks like Kit Fisto and

(30:41):
an arabesh on the side of theship.
It says service, with a smile, because of Kit's iconic smile,
like we saw it in what Attack ofthe Clones?

Speaker 3 (30:57):
Yeah, it was the first time you saw him fighting.
He's got this big grin on hisface.
It became a fan favorite.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
I'm glad that we're getting more of him because he
is such a cool, cool Jedi.
Unfortunately, you know spoileralert, spoiler alert.

Speaker 3 (31:18):
I guess he doesn't make it it doesn't do well in
hallway fights he does not dowell in hallway fights.

Speaker 1 (31:24):
He should have just stayed underwater and he would
have been.
He'd have been better off.
You know something else I, whenI was watching the episode, I
was wondering Apparently, all ofthe water in the galaxy is the
same composition?
Because Gungans, monkow, quarrens, the Rift Shark

(31:50):
creatures.
Yeah, everybody can breatheNautilans, because I think kit
fisto's a nautilin.
They all can breathe under anywater, apparently.
So salt water, fresh water, doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (32:04):
If you're an aquatic species in star wars, you're
just good to go on any planet Ithink it's like we talked about
that other thing where, likeevery planet has like one major
population center and that'swhere I think you know, oceans
are oceans and I guess maybe thequality of the water I guess
would vary on the environment.

(32:25):
You know, if you can surviveNew York smog versus, like you
know, middle of the prairie kindof fresh air, I guess that
that's about as much variationas you're going to get.

Speaker 1 (32:38):
I mean like, okay, so Gungans, right, I assume that
the lakes surrounding feed andthey're in a lake.
I mean that's not saltwater,presumably.
I mean I don't know, I don'tknow, maybe it is, but maybe
it's not even saltwater.
You know we're tied to ourearthly ideals, you know.

(33:02):
So maybe there is no saltwaterin that galaxy, maybe it's just
water.

Speaker 3 (33:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
If you can breathe in one, you can breathe in any of
them.

Speaker 2 (33:10):
So to me the bigger thing is the apparent number of
species in the star warsuniverse that can breathe on
both in water and out of water.

Speaker 3 (33:20):
Just fine, all of them except us, you know, except
us humans yeah, yeah, I yeah.

Speaker 1 (33:28):
That's a great point, tony, that's.
I mean, like every, everysingle aquatic species that
we've encountered is good to go,any water type and dry land as
well.

Speaker 3 (33:44):
How far have you guys gotten into Mandalorian?

Speaker 2 (33:48):
We're all seeing all of it.

Speaker 3 (33:50):
I do think there's one episode where they I forget
which one it was, but they startoff on a Quarren ship.
I think it was a Quarren ship.
The captain was in love with aMon Cal but she had the portable
tank and the bridge.
It was almost like here.
Yes, you can breathe in theatmosphere with all these humans

(34:12):
, but to be more comfortable thecaptain gets their own private
jacuzzi.
I thought that was kind ofinteresting Because I've heard
it and again some of the olderlore and books and stuff.
You know, ackbar keeps hisquarters almost like a steam
room or a humidifier.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
It's like his own little fish tank right His own
little private fish tank.
Yeah, looks like his own littlething, right, his own little
private fish tank.
Yeah, yeah, sorry, I was moreabout, uh, about commander monk.
Dude's cool and I don't.
I don't know if we got any moreof him, I think that's it.
We just, we just get him in thewater wars and that's it.

(34:53):
I mean, I guess he doesn't needto show up anywhere else.
He survived, though I don'tthink he died.

Speaker 2 (34:59):
If he did, they didn't show it.
They didn't show it.

Speaker 1 (35:03):
So, anyway, so great few episodes, and so for this
season, what we were talkingabout doing, we're going to
really separate the episodesbased on their arcs.
So if it's a three episode arc,a four episode arc, we're gonna
.
We're gonna work all that out.
So, um, the next one coming upis gonna be interesting because

(35:28):
we're gonna be doing, uh, whatepisodes?
Four, five and six, I believe.
Yeah, so we have, uh, we haveso much good stuff coming up.
This is such a fun season.
Um, I don't know what else.
What else can we say about, uh,one through three here, the
water war for me, there's twokey things that I thought were

(35:55):
interesting.

Speaker 2 (35:56):
First off, just the arc of Lee Char, you know, going
from Prince, who isn't ready,to Prince who's accepting all of
this upon his shoulders andknowing that he's got to work
with who's supposed to be hisenemy in order to save not just

(36:18):
his people but everybody.
And also just the fact that Ihaven't seen the micro series so
I'm not familiar with that.
It's one of those things ofokay, so you have a planet and
mancala.
You have two main speciesmancala, mari and the corn.
Right, just by names alone, youhave this thought in your head

(36:42):
of well, the corn must not betreated equally if, if you know,
the planet's named after theother species, like that's going
to be a whole thing, sure.
So to me it made total sensethat, okay, you know, I can
understand why the corn are are,you know, want to break off and
and do their own thing, if nottake over the planet for

(37:02):
themselves.
But to see that they weren'treally treated I mean, at least
from what we've seen in theepisodes they weren't really
treated as unequal, they werejust not in leadership, right.
And to see Lee Charikot comeand say hey, listen, I'm here to
lead all of my people, not justmy species.

(37:25):
You know, that's something thatI really wish we had more of in
our society, but that's adifferent conversation.

Speaker 3 (37:35):
And Star Wars is a morality tale at its heart and I
think that's a good lesson totake away from the show.
The Mon Cal, the Quarren ingeneral sort of get a bad rap
because the first time we sawone he was in Jabba's Palace.
So you know, the 80s kidmindset is that all Quarren are
bad and there have been a fewexceptions in some of the Rogue

(37:58):
Squadron books and you know theytry to sprinkle.
But there's sort of thisstereotype that Quarren bad, mon
Cal good.
Right stereotype that Quarrenbad, mon Cal good, and in this
story arc it really.
You see that it's not that theQuarren are bad, they just maybe
wanted a little bit more forthemselves.
And Dooku exploits that.

(38:19):
That's just like he did withthe Death Watch on Mandalore,
just like he does everywhereelse.
The Separatists go, he findsdivision and he picks a side and
he plays them against eachother.

Speaker 1 (38:31):
Right, and also for fans, for long-time fans, you
know.
I think the first and only timewe really see the Quarren on
screen is in Jabba's palace.
Is that correct?
I think?
And at that point the guy was asquid head is in.

Speaker 2 (38:47):
Jabba's palace.

Speaker 1 (38:47):
Is that correct?
I think yeah, and at that pointhe, the, the guy, was a squid
head, so it you know, and youknow we've been, we've been
given that.
You know that's.
You know that's the narrativethat we were told.
You know, if you're hanging outin Jabba's palace, you're a bad
guy.
So we're seeing a Quarren inJabba's palace and then we see
Admiral Ackbar leading the rebelfleet.

(39:08):
So that narrative has beeningrained in us from the very
beginning.
Mon Cal good, quarren bad.
And so now it was nice to beable to see a little bit more of
that different sides of thatnarrative and, uh, you know,
kind of cleaning it up a littlebit and seeing the, seeing them

(39:30):
come together.
You know, as you know, twospecies that share a planet.
So I thought that was prettyinteresting.
Good, uh good episodes um, thenext one's coming up.
I'm just, I'm just looking overI'm sorry I shouldn't be
looking at anything because it'sreally distracting me but, um,
yeah, episodes, uh, what we'regonna do four, five and six, uh,

(39:55):
yeah, we're gonna get, uh,we've got a couple, uh couple
droid episodes, right, but we'vegot, we've got some grievous
action going on as well, comingup.
So I think we're going to havesome really, really good
episodes, and this season itjust is so good.
It's just so good.

Speaker 2 (40:19):
And then, starting with episode seven, we talked
about that on the previewepisode, where we you know we
kept talking about umbar umbaris really a turning point for
the show yeah, it is, and andfor the audience it's a very
it's when things start gettingdark, both literally and
figuratively yeah, yeah, and I,I think, I, I think, you know,

(40:43):
calling the planet umbara waswas not a mistake, you know, we
know that that is uh, what isthat?

Speaker 1 (40:52):
that's, I think, latin for, for darkness, maybe.
I think I think that's likefrom umbra umbra, yeah, so, yeah
, so I mean, it's like it's notjust like you said, you crashed.
It's not just that the planetis dark, but the series itself
does really start to take adarker tone, especially as we

(41:15):
start, uh, looking ahead to someof the other, the other
episodes a lot of, uh, a lot ofstuff going on.
We get to see more of ahsoka'sgrowth throughout all of this,
which is great.
Um, she's not in her littletube top outfit anymore.
She's actually putting on someclothes and growing up and, uh,

(41:35):
it's, it's gonna be a fun ride.
I'm looking forward to it.
So, oh man, I love the clonewars and I apologize to all of
our viewers and listenersbecause I'm like, I'm like
seriously, just looking at allthe stuff that's coming up and
I'm just not even payingattention to the show.

Speaker 3 (41:54):
Yeah, like I told you earlier, I was, you know, to
the past couple of seasons.
I've been sort of going off.
I do a lot of rewatches Iwatched from like season one
through the end.
I've got these most of theseepisodes down pat.
It was fun to kind of newseason from the beginning of
this season and move forwardBecause it's so fresh in your

(42:17):
mind.
You remember what it was likewhen it first aired versus binge
watching them now streaming oron Blu-ray shared versus, you
know, binge watching them nowstreaming or on blu-ray.
But you sometimes you gottaremember you know we get into
some of these bigger arcs.
You know they may go for three, four episodes.
That's almost an entire monthright and hype, and you know

(42:38):
people talking about it onlineand it was just good, good tv
great tv, great tv.

Speaker 1 (42:46):
This is you TV.
This is some of the beststorytelling in the franchise
comes out of the Clone Wars, andthe Clone Wars give us so many
great stories and charactersthat we do end up seeing in live
action and you really see as westart getting into, like you

(43:08):
know, the mandovers.
You know we see dave drawingmore inspiration from the eu and
from you know his own clonewars to pull into live action.
So, and we've got a secondseason of Ahsoka coming up
pretty soon Um, I guess that'snews.

(43:29):
Um, ewan McGregor is going tobe reprising his role as Obi-Wan
Kenobi in season two of Ahsoka.
So that is going to beinteresting.
That is going to be very, veryinteresting.
So I'm I'm assuming they'regoing to do it as a flashback.

(43:49):
Um, I mean because I mean inthe current timeline.
I mean you know everyone did so.
They might have to do it, butthey've already done you know
one flashback thing.

Speaker 3 (44:02):
So this de-aging technology does wonders you know
, they've got a, an actress, toplay a younger ahsoka.
They could do, you know.
You know they did it in a sortof a four spirit realm memory in
ahsoka, where she sees her youknow, hayden christensen in the
animated clone wars anakincostume interacting with her.

(44:24):
The son says we can't get Ewanto do the same thing.

Speaker 1 (44:27):
Yeah, and he's I mean Ewan is still more than spry
enough to play even a Clone Warsera Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Oh yeah, he could absolutelyhandle it All right.
So let's go ahead and get youset up for homework for next

(44:48):
week.
So next week, please watch theclone wars season four, episodes
four, five and six, and, ofcourse, catch up on all of our
past episodes, which I promiseyou are better than this one,
because I'm less distracted.
Um, I'm just excited.
I'm sorry.
I'm excited for this season.
This is my favorite season.
Well, no, season seven is myfavorite season.
That one.
No, season 7 is my favoriteseason.
That one is just.

(45:09):

enemies as well, and give us awatch, give us a listen, and
we've got to do some obligatorypimping.

sws show and be sure tosubscribe to the podcast and our
YouTube channel, if you're intothat sort of thing, and if you
check the website, you can seeour roadmap for this season, you

(45:54):
can see exactly which episodeswe're watching, and because we
are really strictly sticking toa chronological order, this time
we've kind of we're, you know, doing things based on what Dave
was doing the last few seasons, but this time we kind of were,
you know, doing things based onwhat dave was doing the last few
seasons, but this time we'rewe're sticking to it.
Um, we do have a little, uhlittle, tales of the empire

(46:15):
sprinkled in here this seasonfor us too.
So, uh, absolutely, please, please, check that out, and we
may be, I don't know, by thetime this comes out, because
this episode should drop onTuesday.
Is that going to be?
That'll be after the allegedTikTok ban?

(46:40):
Maybe, but I heard that that'sgoing to be another two hundred
and seventy days.
We might get a reprieve.
We might, we might, we'll see.
So we'll see.
But check us out on TikTok.
We're, we're doing most of ourstuff on TikTok, so we've got a
lot of clips there.
We're putting clips everywhere,but mostly we're doing we're we

(47:07):
do more stuff on.
Tiktok and we might beok overto red note.
So at the very least I'll makean account.
I'll make an account, put it upover there and we'll say hi to
our chinese friends and uh andand star wars fans over there
there's plenty of them overthere, of course, of course, and
I guess we would be like theuncles, we would be like their
star wars uncles.
I think that's like a, that'slike a term of endearment that,

(47:29):
uh, chinese culture uses for, uh, you know your, your, you know
your elders.
So we're, we're the, we're theelder star wars fans, so we'll
see, we'll see what happens,we'll see what happens, but
anyway, uh, that is going to beuh, something interesting, I
think.
So we'll see what happens there.
Do you guys have anything onthe way out?

Speaker 3 (47:50):
no, that's all I got this is a good launch point for
the season and I think we're infor some good times.

Speaker 1 (47:57):
I agree.
I agree 100%.
I know we're in for some goodtimes.

Speaker 2 (48:01):
I know it's not.
I know it's not Clone Wars, butif y'all have not seen Skeleton
Crew, go watch it.

Speaker 1 (48:05):
Yes watch Skeleton Crew.
Binge it now, right like rightnow.
Know it's not clone wars, butif y'all have not seen skeleton
crew, go watch it.
Yes, it's great skeleton crew.
Binge it now, right like rightnow.
The episodes are like they'reall out.
They're all out, watch them, noexcuse.
Call off work.

Speaker 3 (48:16):
Call in sick to school it's cold outside, don't
go, you know yeah, don't go seewhat goes on anyway.

Speaker 1 (48:21):
Stay inside.
Instead of reading a good book, watch a good tv show and
skeleton crew is that good show.
And, of course, for yourhomework, again watch episodes
four through six of season fourof the Clone Wars.
So that is going to do it forus this week.
Thank you so much for tuning inand, of course, as always, a
very special thank you to ouractive duty service members and

(48:42):
veterans for their service andsacrifice to this great nation
of ours.
And, as always, star warswarriors, remember if no one
does anything nice for you, dosomething nice to yourself and
we will see y'all next week.
I'm trying to push buttons so Ican time this out.
