Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hi, thank you so much for joining me today.
I'm Shannon and this isStarseed Evolution, bringing the
wisdom and insight of thecosmos to you.
I'm grateful that you'relistening.
In our last episode, we learnedthe tools for empathic and

(00:23):
highly sensitive people calledis this mine?
With this tool, we arereferring to being able to check
in with ourselves about whetherthe feelings and emotions
inside ourselves are our own orif we're picking up those
feelings from people around us.
Once you discover where thosefeelings are coming from,

(00:47):
whether they're your own orsomeone else's what then do we
do with these feelings oremotions once we are conscious
of them?
That's what our episode will beexploring today sitting with
our emotional body.
The two spiritual teachers whowill guide us through this

(01:10):
process are the Sufi poet, rumi, and the wise teacher Buddha.
I hope you enjoy this poem, this talk and this guided
practice in our episode today.
If we have never learned to sitwith our feelings or emotions,

(01:36):
they can at times appear to beso overwhelming that, if we did
sit with them, they might neverstop or go away or change.
And so often we ignore, displace or bury those emotions

(01:57):
or feelings so that we don'thave to deal with them.
Deal with them.
What ends up happening, though,is that they come up one way or
another, in order for us tolook at them or not, but they're
still there.
Today, we're going to beworking with the energy of

(02:19):
Buddha and the sacred Bodhi treeof grounding and enlightenment
in order to find comfort insitting in those uncomfortable
places of feeling and emotion, and not staying there, but
allowing them to move through usand be supported by Buddha's

(02:44):
energy, letting us know thatit'll be okay, so that we can
feel them, acknowledge them, letthem go and then be present for
and with them.
Of course, just doing thispractice one time isn't
necessarily going to changeanything immediately.

(03:07):
It gives you the ability tofind comfort in allowing
emotions and then learning how, when they do come to the surface
, allow them to be present withyou and then move them through,
so this practice will give you atool or technique in order to

(03:29):
learn to sit in that discomfort,in order to shift it over time,
because Buddha is all aboutnon-attachment.
In this guided journey thatwe'll be taking together to meet
with Buddha, he is not attachedto what you're experiencing.

(03:51):
That way, he can sit incompassion, in listening and
holding space for you, withoutbeing attached to whether you're
having the emotion or not, whether you get over it or not,
and just allowing you to be whoyou are in this moment.

(04:11):
And because he can hold thisspace of non-attachment to the
feelings that are coming up foryou, he can then hold them for
you and help you move themthrough your body, your mind,
out of you and into a space thatcan learn to transform these

(04:33):
emotions into a space oflearning and healing and
understanding about your ownself.
Before we move into the guidedmeditation with Buddha's energy,
I'd like to share this poemwith you by Rumi, called the
Guest House, which is a perfectrepresentation or metaphor for

(04:57):
what we'll be doing in ourpractice today.
The Guest House by Rumi.
Today, the Guest House by Rumi, this being human is a guest
house.
Every morning, a new arrival, ajoy, a depression, a meanness,

(05:27):
some momentary awareness comesas unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all, even if they are a crowd of
sorrows who violently sweep yourhouse empty of its furniture.
Still treat each guesthonorably.
He may be clearing you out forsome new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice.

(05:51):
Meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in.
Be grateful for whatever comes, because each has been sent as a
guide from beyond.
And now let's move into ourguided practice to greet the
feeling or emotion that wants tobe heard and let in today, and

(06:23):
I'll have you move into aresting position, whether seated
or lying down, and justallowing yourself to find rest
and comfort in this space, andjust make sure your body is

(06:47):
supported your head, your knees, your back and then beginning to
connect with the earth beneathyou, the earth beneath you and

(07:08):
from this place of rest andconnection with earth, taking a
deep breath in and exhaling.
And another deep breath in andexhaling.

(07:30):
And now, when you're ready, closing your eyes, I'll have you
take this time now to begin toscan your body.
You can start at your head oryour feet and just with your

(07:56):
mind, scanning your whole bodyand see if there's a feeling or
emotion present currently thatwould like you to be present
with it as well.
So take this time now just toscan your whole body and seeing

(08:22):
what emotion is present thatwould like your attention.

(08:50):
And now, imagining that yourbody is your home and your heart
is the door to your home.
There is a knock at the door ofyour heart and in your
imagination.
You go to the door and you openit up.

(09:11):
There is an emotion or feelingstanding at the door who would
like to be welcomed in, to beheard, to be sat with, to be
felt.
What feeling or emotion is atthe door that you welcome in

(09:35):
today?
What does this emotion orfeeling feel like inside of you
and in your imagination?
If that feeling or emotion werelike a person, separate from

(10:00):
you, what would they look like?
How would they be dressed?
And now, welcoming that feelingor emotion into the door of your
heart and into the living spaceof your home, of your body?
And now, when you're ready,I'll have you imagine taking

(10:27):
that feeling or emotion by thehand, walking through the house
to the back door, opening thedoor, seeing that there is a
porch door, seeing that there isa porch, you and this feeling

(10:51):
or emotion stepping out onto theporch and down the steps.
And in the distance, through afield of grass, there is a
beautiful tree growing Insilence.
The two of you walk together, hand in hand, through the grass,

(11:12):
up the hill to the tree.
And as you arrive at the tree, whose canopy is wide and

(11:37):
protective and full of beautifulleaves and brilliant branches,
of beautiful leaves andbrilliant branches.
Imagine that you and thisemotion or feeling sit down at
the base of the trunk of thetree together, and your emotion

(12:00):
or feeling is sitting to theright of you.
And all of a sudden, you lookto the left and there is Buddha
sitting under this beautifulBodhi tree of enlightenment.
Buddha looking out towards thesky, the clouds, smiling.

(12:41):
And now that you are under theprotection of the Bodhi tree,
seated next to the compassionateheart of Buddha, you allow the
feeling or emotion that has comewith you to begin to speak to
Buddha, to tell him how he orshe is feeling, what it feels
like inside.
And so, in this next moment ofsilence, allow this part of you

(13:04):
that wants to be heard toexpress him or herself, and as
he or she does, you may feel thefeelings throughout your whole
body, but just allow From yourhead down your spine, through

(13:31):
your legs and out your feet andinto the earth, allowing the
emotions to water the beautifultree tree.

(14:14):
Allow this part of yourself toshare with Buddha how he or she
is feeling now and taking a deepbreath in and exhaling.
And when you look to your right, you see that the feeling or
emotion is no longer sitting toyour right but is inside of you.
Allow that feeling or emotionthat was expressed to continue

(14:39):
to move through you freely, without judgment, from your head
, your neck, your spine, yourheart, your chest, your feet,

(15:00):
your toes.
Buddha reaches out now andholds your hand.

(15:20):
Buddha willingly accepts yourfeelings and emotions, not as
burdens, not as ugly, but as abeautiful part of your human

(15:41):
heart.
Continue to allow that feelingor emotion to move through you

(16:10):
and out of you and into Buddha, the more the emotion or feeling
of calm and peace flow back intoyou from Buddha, from the Bodhi
tree surrounding you, in thiscompassionate love and

(16:39):
understanding, without needingto fix or change anything about
who you are.
The feeling or emotion thatyou're having Breathing in the
peace of Buddha, theenlightenment of the Bodhi tree.

(17:02):
And now Buddha begins to pointyour attention to all the beauty
that is around you the skyoverhead, the clouds passing by,

(17:30):
the breeze on your skin, thesmell of the grass, the sounds
of all this life, all this love.
This being human is a guesthouse.

(18:00):
Every morning, a new arrival, ajoy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comesas an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all, even if they are a crowd of

(18:25):
sorrows who violently sweep yourhouse empty of its furniture.
Still, treat each guesthonorably.
He may be clearing you out forsome new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice.

(18:47):
Meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in.
Be grateful for whatever comes, because each has been sent as a
guide from beyond.
And we'll close this guidedpractice by taking three deep

(19:09):
breaths with buddha and thebodhi tree.
We'll have a bell between eachbreath and take a deep breath in
and exhale.

(19:41):
And take a deep breath in andexhale, and exhale, inhale.
And one more deep breath in andexhale and exhale.

(20:11):
And may your heart continue towelcome all the guests who wish
to arrive at your door so thatyou may experience the fullness
of life, of your body, of allthat it wants to share with you.
Thank you so much for spendingthis time with me today, and in

(20:36):
our next episode we'll beexploring the voice as a way of
helping us evolve and heal.
We will explore our voicethrough mantras, these ancient
song practices that help us toheal and mend.
I'll share with you one of thefirst mantras that I ever

(21:03):
learned, and this is from theBuddhist tradition called the
Green Tara Mantra.
I look forward to sharing thatwith you in our next episode,
and until then, I'm Shannon, you're listening to Starseed
Evolution, and I wish you anamazing day.
