What a get! I thought this week’s guest had quit comedy and I’d never get to have him on again, and that’s because he quit comedy! But thank god he is back, it’s amazing comedian and podcaster Pat MacDonald on Starting Out this week. Pat and I met when I was a new comic and he was a headliner, and I was too in my head to talk to him, so I didn’t. And then at the end of the show, he apologized to me for not talking to me because he was too inside his own head. So, if you’re excited for a conversation like that, this is the pod for you!
Seriously, Pat was very thoughtful and told so many great stories of his over 14-years as a comedian. We talk anxiety Yuk Yuks, a Norm McDonald story, and so much more. Check out his weekly Superstars of Comedy show at Comedy Bar, and of course his podcast, with a name I am so jealous of “Over My Dad Body”.

Cardiac Cowboys
The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
