Speaker 1 (00:17):
He's the Steelers Blizz with Wesley Euler and Art your
Mots on your twenty four to seven Home of the
Black and Gold skn R. What's going on Still's Nation.
It is Art the most westle Ewer and this is
the Steelers Blitz on SNR. And it is time for
that final segment of two days show. And as I
(00:38):
said when we ended last segment, we're turning the floor
over to the power grid, the Mega wise but individuals
who love to participate with each and every show via
the Twitter dot com. So in the words of Andy.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Reid Don George there it is well see a plethora
of different types of tweets as you would imagine, as
we quite often get in general, but particularly during the offseason.
Couple around the schedule here, couple random thoughts as well
to a question about a team in the NFC. So
(01:13):
plenty to get to here in this Tuesday edition of
Times Yours, we'll start with the schedule stuff, since that's timely,
since that's what we've been spending the majority the lions
share of today's show. On Caleb tweets us and says,
I think having a bye week week six so early
kind of sucks. Honestly, need to know your guys' thoughts
(01:34):
and what you think. Matiah, you know what, I want
you to start on this one because you're the one
with the decade of NFL experience. I know players don't
really care when I mean, you can tell me I'm wrong.
I'm assuming you don't care when the bye week is
because it's out of your control and you're just gonna
have to roll with the punches anyways. But is there
a preference to have it later in the season than
week six?
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Honestly, as a player, you that's one of the things
you'd go key do check for be because you know
when you get somewhere, well, I think of a two
ways right early on, not necessarily the trip, because it's
more so like, man, I got to make sure I'm
on the roster, So you don't really like plan that
far in advantage usually week the week, but you look
at when the bye week is more so to know, like, man,
(02:18):
if we're owing this team, when am I going to
get like a chance for my body to recover? So
you typically want it like week ten, eleven, twelve, because
you're like, man, I'm fresh out of training camp in September. Sure,
I don't need it in October. In fact, I'll probably
still be feeling a little bit better because I'm not
banging as much in practice as i was in training camp.
(02:41):
So it's like when you get that week that earlier,
Now I got ten of them straight, I'm like, gosh,
that's a lot that hurts. When you get to November December. Man,
your fingers hurting, your wrists hurting, everything, like all the
little bumps and bruises, that's when you need that. Like
that's in the week here. So typically we would look
(03:01):
for that, but you know, you don't complain about it,
if that makes sense. Sure, we're aware of it. We
want to know where it is, and we have our
preference on it, but we just it's not the end
all be all because we're so conditioned mentally to just
roll with whatever.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Whatever.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
We know you can get the shortened the stick thirty
times in a row, and every reason to complain, but
we're programmed to what not seek comfort. We're programming to
seeks Yeah, so it's just like, Okay, that's what they did.
We're not complaining. We're gonna work around it. We'll work
through it.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Like that's just you know, enjoy week six off and
make sure we're getting right.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
That's it, you know. But there were times though, you know,
later in my career where yes, you did start to
look more for the vacation element, you know, when you
when you would come up agent and the big account reflects.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
You like your rosters a little more security.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
We're like, hey, love, we can plan this island trip,
you know, on the bye week. I've definitely been out
the country for a bye week. And as we're flying back,
we're like, bro, this is so reckless. What do we
just do? Like, yeah, yeah, that can happen, man, that
can definitely happen. Okay, yes, but we were fully committed.
We were fully committed to the game, fully committed. I
didn't work out. I did work out. It was on
(04:14):
the beach, but I did work out.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
There you go, there you go, Yes, yes, you went
for a run on the beach, baby, Yeah, for exactly
off the country on a bi week.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Like, bro, what happens if you like the late passport,
get lost anything? Yeah? Yeah, you know, such as life,
such as.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Such as life. Hey, sometimes you got to risk it
for the biscuit, you.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Know, baby, man, come on, you can't make it if
you don't break the legg baby. Hey, there I go, bro,
So I go.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
You have a little steal A Nation nine twenty. Our
buddy up in Wisconson tweets and says Week one San
Francisco at Pittsburgh ticket spot, Hotel booked. Hope you guys
are ready for the cheese and spotted cow rolling.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Let us go? Who ride spotty cow man? What's up?
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Tyler?
Speaker 1 (05:10):
You got some Buddha, You've got some beta. But your
roller is it craft?
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Huh?
Speaker 1 (05:15):
What you're bringing up in here? Man? Is it.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Slider? I think it's Cheddar, right, that's what they do.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Right, Yeah, yeah, cheese curage Cheddar Cheddar. Look cheese, babyta cheese?
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Listen Tyler? All right, Stealer Nation nine twenty. His name
is Tyler, and I know this. I'm not doxing him
or anything. I know this because it's in his bio
on Twitter. All right, Well, so you know what, I
hope they call Tyler Tyler the Creator. Yeah, I hope
we can call him Tyler the Spotted cow Bringer because.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
Oh man, I see what you did there, buddy, Tyler.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
I don't know what you accept Venmo PayPal? Uh, cash
app checking the mail. But I will pay you to
bring me a case of spotted Cowny, I will pay
you to bring me two cases of spotted cow if
you can fit both.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
I know.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
They're those big bottle cases, and if you're bringing the
whole family, the car might be a little bit packed up.
But I will pay you to bring me a case
of spotted cow. I don't care whatever method of payment delivery.
I might even add a little tip in there for
you as well too, So slide into my DMS. Let
me know because it's been Oh, I think probably twenty
seventeen was the last time I was in the twenty
sixteen was the last time I was in Wisconsin, So
(06:30):
it's been been a while since I've had some spotted
cal I would I would know.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
You weren't traveling with the team last time went to
Green Bay.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Correct, I was not traveling with everybody on that I knew.
I was like everyone you got against my Missy labs pursuit.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
It nailing man.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Yeah, now I am assuming it's it's probably frowned upon.
Like if we do go to Green Bay one day,
I won't be able to just buy a case and
carry it onto the plane. I don't think. I don't
think I necessarily have it like that at this point. Yeah,
it's It's been probably a good seven years or so
since I've had a spotted cow. It is one of
my favorite beers. Tyler, Holla at your boy. But that's
(07:11):
I tell you what. Home openers, Mozi are always fun
just because it's that first you know, everyone's been waiting
for this all summer, all year, the excitement, the all
the hope in the world for everybody, but particularly when
you haven't hosted a home opener week one in a decade,
like that's gonna be. That's gonna be a great atmosphere.
That's gonna be a fun day down on the north Shore.
That's a good one.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
I definitely like that idea. Definitely.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
All Right, let's see what else we got here. Uh
Po Shai is Alaska. I haven't heard from Alaska for
a while. He's got a random question for us, and
he wants to know how long we expect our cross
state NFC rivals. So I'm assuming he means the Philadelphia
Eagles uh ton to continue this ride, this strong roster
(07:54):
and play that they have. When do you think they
take a step back, They're good for at least another year.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Once Jalen Hurst's money starts to kick in, that's when
things started to get different because now you can't afford
a Darius slay of Brad Berry, AJ Brown, Jason Kelsey,
Dallas Goddard, A Landon Johnson. Hey, you know what I mean,
Like we go down the list, it's just like a
Javar Hargrave, A Fletcher Cox and Brandon.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
They already lost. They lost a lot of guys from
that defense last year.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
But you hear many names I'm naming.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
It's like Martin, keep that band together, keep that.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
While paying a quarterback two hundred mil. Like it just
it's not feasible.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Correct, So you're absolutely right.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
So within the next two to three years is when
you start to see a shift, and then it becomes
more so predicated on Jalen Hurt's sustainability. Can he continue
to elevate and produce the way that he's doing when
the cast around him diminishes. When it's no longer a J.
Brown and that guy is Devontae Smith. Different caliber guys,
(09:01):
but one is going to be a little bit cheaper
than the other. And that's the type of stuff you
have to start doing and then ultimately hoping that your
draft picks turn out. Now, as long as they're dominant
in the trenches, they're always going to be in games.
And when you draft away that they drafted, they are
doing that, so they're gone. I don't see that changing
as long as they can keep this style of play. Now,
(09:24):
if you start changing it up and you lose sight
of who you are because you're paying Jalen Hurst Japan them,
I think that's what you can get in trouble. But
as long as you keep it going where they're run first,
play action first, I think that they continue to play
really well like that. When you start turning them into
a pass first run second team, I think that's when
they can get into some trouble.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
I think you're absolutely right. I think for at least
one more year, I think they'll be able to keep
most of that nucleus, most of that core together. I mean,
it feels like Kelsey's going to retire after this season.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
And we've been saying that the past three seasons. Man,
but I think this is he's definitely gonna retire now.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
Nope, Kelsey signed extens.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Oh, He's definitely retiring this year, no sign another got
Kelsey definitely retired now? Oh no, they want so he's
definitely coming back now like god dump Yeah yeah, between
Kelsey and Tom Brady, I was tied to predict it.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
Oh yeah, he gonna definitely.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Retire now yeah, just looking No, by the way, you
see Brady, he flirting with it.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
He flirted with I'm like, yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
You know who else? Did you see this? Hold on,
I gotta do my jay leno. Did you see this?
Did you hear about this? Tom Brady is apparently helping
Kim Kardashian house shop in Tampa. Did you see that?
I'm being dead serious with this. I'm not I know
I'm a goofball, but I'm being dead serious.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
I like it. That's a good friend over over.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Under two weeks until they're dating.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
I mean, well they are.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
This is page this is page six.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
You'll remote they are adults. You know. Tom Brady is
the goat for a reason. He was the only person
that left his actress baby mother for super model Giseill,
and everybody was like, you know what, we get it.
So if he wanted to just check off another, we're
(11:07):
gonna pop icon let We're gonna get this one. Okay,
I get it. It's like, Yo, you're the good at everything.
Go ahead, just just who's next?
Speaker 3 (11:15):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Thma? Is it? Sema?
Speaker 3 (11:17):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (11:17):
Is it? Highly like where are you going next? You know,
because he's in that type of freak, He's in that
type of class. So yeah, that's what Brady does. That's
that's what Brady does.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Man, Yes, yes, indeed certainly does. All right, a couple
more here is it relates to the schedule, and then
we'll get to our always random question of the day.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
But Wes loves Wes loves his hair and his face.
Wes loves all of that straight natural talk about it.
That's you know that show.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
I tell you what, I've had some maybe the stress
of this baby. I've had some bad breakouts these last
few weeks. I've actually had to use some stuff on
my face. But the hair is still all natural.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
It is is dead. It is dead.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
You'll laugh. When I went to see the dermatologist a
couple of weeks ago, this is a honest to god
true story. Yeah, the doctor was talking to me about
some of the possible things we could do to help
these weird breakouts on my face, and they were going
through all the potential, the different here's the options, here's
what they each are. Here's the side effects to some
of them. And for one of them, the side effects
was it can it can cause hair finning and hair loss.
(12:17):
And I said, well, we could scrap it all right.
I'd rather have sets on my face than lose my hair.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
Good on that. I'm all the way good on that's.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
The brand right there. A couple a couple of more
question related ones. John tweets and says, how do you
how do you feel about spending New Year's in the
Pacific Northwest. I did say this a little bit earlier,
but I'm fine with it. I love Seattle. I love
the Pacific Northwest. My wife and I we did Seattle
in Vancouver for our honeymoon. We did four days in Seattle,
four days in Vancouver. I like the area up there.
(12:47):
I like the weather up there. I know it's crazy,
but I do like the weather up there. I like
the culture, I like the food, I like the people.
And it's just a place of the country that I
don't go very often. You know, I've only been.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
The people referred to it almost like a Pittsburgh like
in terms of like the vibe of the city out.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
There similar, it's like Pittsburgh on the water.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Yeah, that's what they say, man, That's that's what I've heard.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
So I love. I love a trip to the Pacific Northwest.
So I'm excited for that. And it's another stadium that
I that I've never been to as well, too, so
that's always fun. That's one of the things that I
like about this schedule too. I didn't mention that in
our first couple of segments, MOTI. There's a lot of
trips here, Uh, stadiums and cities both and in each
and order that I've not like, never been to Las Vegas,
never been to the stadium, never been to Houston, never
(13:30):
been to the stadium. I've been to La but I've
never been to the stadium. Cleveland, Cincinnati obviously, Indy obviously,
but Seattle as well too. Been to the city, never
been to the stadium. So there's some in Tampa Bay
for the preseason. Uh yeah, yeah, I've never been to
Tampa Bay. I've never been to the stadium. So some
some cool first time trips there as well, which is
which is always fun.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
Yeah right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
I didn't even peat the Tampa in the pH My gosh,
I didn't think about Tampa and August. Dude, it's one
hundred and fifty degree. I'm gonna mount all skin is
gonna burn.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
You can get you get some Atlanta down there.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
Yeah, I do love in Lanta. I've been there a
bunch of fas. I love in Lanta. Always like a
reason to go to Mercedes Benz Stadium.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
And I'm just happy that, you know, the the most
bulls in the preseason this year, so it doesn't really count.
I'm good.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
It's right fresh off me. Preseason ain't on that Buffalo's
got to come, gotta come to us.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
Yea time.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
Wait, let's go the preseason. Everybody's having fun. Everybody's a
winner as long as nobody gets hurt.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
Everybody's long as nobody gets hurt.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
Baby Devin, our buddy, the human flame thrower in Denver,
be a little while, yeah, says please tell me you
guys are going to the Vegas game. I will also
be in Tampa. We go, we go into the Vegas game. Cousin, Hey,
it was a good listen. I might need again. I
the preseason games are much more low key because there's
(14:55):
not like there's a huge traveling contingent. There's not events
and stuff really going on like that for pre seas.
I've never been to Tampa. So if Devon, if you
want to, if you want to show me around in Tampa,
all the all the spots, if you're familiar, I mean
Devin listen. Devn's all over the country, He's all over
the world, tweets us. So I'm assuming he's been to
Tampa a few times. If you want to, if you
(15:15):
want to show me what's good in Tampa. It's gonna
be hot, the weather's gonna be nice. Maybe a cigar,
maybe some food, food drinks happen.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
Gotta have some food, food drinks Tampa.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
I was gonna say Tampa Bay in August that gotta
have a drink with an umbrella.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
Yeah, absolutely fat That just.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
That just feels that just feels like it's uh, it's necessary.
Let's see, let's see. Uh wait, the last one from
Andrew or random Question of the Week. Now, this is
a good It does a good job with these, but
I like this one. Andrew says, we all do it,
(15:52):
so confess. What is the one thing you hoard?
Speaker 1 (15:59):
Oh? Birthday cards.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
Do explain?
Speaker 1 (16:06):
So I love birthday cards, right, Like that is my thing.
But I keep every single card that is given to me,
Like if it's any type of thank you card, birthday card,
graduation card, like that's written to me, I save them.
And it's like it's a bad problem because it's like
(16:26):
that's good. Yeah, it's like my sentimental thing because you know,
everybody's like, well you got all this money, man, you
can some money give you and always tell the I'm like, bro,
if you get me a card, like it means a
lot because I'm old school. You take time. Yeah, when
you take time to like write something in a card
and write it down, it's like, damn, you actually took
some time to think about me like this. So like
(16:49):
I literally like from where there's me coaching, you know,
when my daughter was playing basketball, like the girls had
a nice little like card for me at the end.
Still have that. Got cards from like when I retired,
you know, cards from like birthday parties and stuff like
that where literally handwritten for either my kids or like
a fin or anybody. And it's yeah, I keep them all,
(17:10):
but I keep like having to move them because obviously,
like I'll store them in this place and then he
gets full it's got a story in that place. It
gets full. But that's that's my thing though, Bro. Yeah,
it's good.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
It's a really good one.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
Yeah, that's that's my thing, you know, a little behind
the scenes on five five Man, I love like handwritten cards. Man,
that's like my thing. Bro.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
I'm with you as well too. I like handwritten cards
as well. I do think it's a nice touch holidays, weddings,
sympathy cards, when someone in the family passes away things
like that. I think you're right. They had to go out,
they had to buy that, they had to sit down
there and write it out with their hand, they had
to put it in the envelope, lick that nasty thing
and put a stamp on it.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
And especially when you think about today where everything is technology,
everything is email, text message, voice note. We're always looking
for convenience. We're looking for, you know, ways to cut
down on time. So let's like, man, when you actually
take the old school approach.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
A hundred great, that's a great call. Yeah, yeah, I've
kept I've got I've got a few, but not nearly
the collection that you have. I need to we like,
like Morgan, I saved our wedding cards. You know what
I mean.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
Yeah, yeah, when we were doing the.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
Long distance thing when she was living in Philly and
I was living in Ohio. I saved some of the
cards that she that she wrote then, but I yeah,
I like, I like how you've got like a plethorough
That's that's good. That's really good.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
I always laugh. I tell people like, you know. The
one thing that I did not say that I wish
I would have was when I was getting recruited in
high school, you know, like.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
The dude let coaches and stuff.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
I never like it was weird. I never saved that
stuff because my whole time I was like pissed off,
so I never really could appreciate it. I was always
looking like, man, you really gonna take this, dude?
Speaker 2 (18:53):
Why am I not getting a letter from Nick saying
yeah yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
So it was like that vibe. So I never really
like appreciate it. So now I'm like, dang, I wish
I could go back and show those, but instead I
have like boxes of cards, not for myself. So it
all worked out, you know, And at least these cars
were more heartfelt because I'm sure them coaches were gonna
tell me anything I wanted to hear. At that time,
but it probably wasn't going to be from the heart.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
Listen that is again, if you've listened to the show
for more than five minutes, you know that Arthur Motes
was he had some aggression during his recruiting process out
of high school and he proved everybody wrong. So it's
not who laughs first, it's who laughs last and help.
It is that simple, but it is fun. I love
how you admit that during that time, like I wasn't
(19:40):
appreciating the process.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
I wasn't enjoying it.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
I was upset that I wasn't getting better offers like
I legit.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
Remember like National Signing Day, it's a big ordeal for
people because you're literally going to college, is changing your life,
and people have but lows cakes, big time events, TV.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
The local news stations there.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
I remember, like you were just I don't want to talk
to nobody, like I'm gonna sign this a little bit.
I didn't even to take a picture. They were like, yo,
take a picture with your with your shirt on inside,
and I'm like for what, Like I'm just going going
over here. Man, let's go, y'all know what I'm here for,
Like it's go time. I'm gonna mission.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Like, I'm not going to Florida State to follow THETEPS.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
Literally. I was like, yo, I am strictly going here
for one reason. One reason that's the kick butt. Okay,
I don't want to take pictures. I'm not your friend.
I'm here to kick butt. Yeah. Man, I love the
good platy for mindset though, but that's largely what helped me.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
That's why you made it, you know, part of.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
Yeah, but that was definitely going back. I always I'm like, man,
I wish I could do that over. I wish I
could like appreciate those moments because it's rare. It's like
once in a lifetime, you know. But yeah, that was
not my energy at that time. Yeah, but I've come
a long way. Man, I've turned over new leaps. Okay, guys, yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
You certainly have. You are. You're now the happiest person
I've ever been around in my life.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
West has helped me out with, you know, finding different
ways to express myself into woos relieve.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
Ooo suh oh oo, Sa Mozie, that's a really good one.
Mine is, man, Mine is sports memorabilia, And like, I
know that that's cliche, but if you just walk around
in my basement right now, bruh. I mean, as you're
looking in my background here, like like this that I
(21:26):
have right here. I mean, I've got this. I've got
this WVU magazine from wu's undefeated season. I mean this
is from nineteen eighty eight. Right behind me. This thing's
older than I am. A lot of these different things
are at least a decade old.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
Like fifty different West Virginia or sports related items behind
west right now, I've.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
Got got signed I've got signed Penguins and Steelers jerseys
across the way. I've got WVU basketball Big East champions
banner on the wall. And if you go into the
storage room of my basement, this is not an exaggeration.
There are it's it's all littered with box is of
sports memorabilia stuff. And I don't mean like my trophies
from Little League. I mean Steeler stuff and Penguin stuff
