(01:01):
and a pretty darn good head of hair, so I've
been told. But it's up to the ends to figure
out the rest. But what you should know by now
is yes, we're gonna show you the money. What you
should know by now is yeah, we're gonna do that
five Star Friday.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
We're humbled and excited to be in these five star matchups.

As I accidentally cut the music there as well too.
I'm just so fired up. We're gonna talk to our
buddy Brian Peco hold on one time. How you get
the tunes back here for a second, And of course
we will sing for the first time this year in
the what fifth season. Overall, the here we go song

(01:41):
San Francisco edition.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
But you know the drill over the next two hours.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
You want to get involved with us, the best way
to do so is on the Twitter dot com at
Wesley Uler act a body fifty.

Speaker 4 (01:52):
Two, duh body and mostie. It's a Friday, we're back.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
It's a game weekend week one, so of course obviously
we want everybody's predictions as well too.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
They got to tweet us those scores.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
So what you're telling me is this ain't your daddy's
Friday regular show on nine seventy am.

Speaker 5 (02:08):
Is that what you're telling me?

Speaker 4 (02:09):
It's exactly what I'm talking.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Okay, Well, since that's the vibe the day one, I'm
ready to roll with you in man. Yes, it's gonna
be all fun one two day jam pack from start
to finish the way that we do it.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
So if you're new to it.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Well, hey baby, you better bucket up because it's a
good win today.

Speaker 5 (02:25):
Pal Oh, we.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
Are off and flying.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
I like to fade down the music and get rough,
but I mean, like, come on, it's just it just
gets you ready to go, gets.

Speaker 4 (02:36):
The people, gets the people going.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
We're ready to rock and roll here on a Friday
week one, and Motzi picked a pretty good one here
to get us going.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Huh.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Now, let me preface this, it doesn't matter who you
play week one.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
You're jacked up.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
The football's back, right, but you would rather open up
with somebody that, uh, that gets the blood flowing a
little bit. But it's like, yeah, if your college football
team opens with you know, Division two Southeast Northern Montana
Kentucky Regional.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
State, you're still gonna be fired up because your favorite.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Team's back, right, But it's a lot better when you,
you know, you open up against somebody that gets the
blood going right. Maybe you know, like last year, you know,
WU in the backyard brawl, the largest sporting event in history.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
Like, I like how you keep bringing up college. Well
we talking big boys.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
Well now see hold on, I was going there.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
No no, no, no, no no no, before we even
get there, you just keep mentioning college college them the kids.

Speaker 5 (03:39):
We not talking about kids.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
Kids is Mac Miller mixtape.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
You know, man, these team ain't really good like that.
And we know for real, for real, they really not
good like that. We all got to try to fake lie.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
THEMN the kids. That's why they play on Saturdays. Saturday
is the kid day.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Sunday is the lowest.

Speaker 5 (03:58):
Friday is the even smaller.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
Kids Today, Friday night lights, Saturday during the day, you're
gonna get all the kids, reckball kids, high school kids,
college kids.

Speaker 5 (04:08):
But we know on Sunday it's a different type of football.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
It's the football that you don't gotta lie or even
try to talk about. This team is a good verson.
That team is good because everybody at this level is good,
real good. You show me a team that doesn't have
an All American or a Player of the Year on
it in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
A high school Hall of Famer. Just show me one
high school state player of the year.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
Just show me one that doesn't have a first round
draft pick on it, because that's the other thing.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
Right, Shn't show me that team.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Everybody is nice, real nice. Everybody's nice, even the bad teams.
Everybody's nice, man. So that's the beauty of its day.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
Man.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
You it don't matter who they throw out there, you're
going to be excited because every team legitimately has a
chance to win, regardless of who's out there or not.
As we've been seeing, baby, we saw less we saw
last night.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
I mean I think it closed at four and a half,
but at one point, the one point yesterday, late end
of the day, a lot of books had the Chiefs
as six point favorites.

Speaker 5 (05:17):
I even like how you put emphasis on six like
that's a big.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
Because some people might not they might that's a touchdown.
What do you talk?

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Six points in the NFL is a pretty sizable spread,
particularly for a Week one game too, right where those
things tend to be much closer to the best Week
one before teams really get some of the russ knocked
off and get moving.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
I just love the fact that with all of that,
that's less than that Touchdow.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
That's some touchdown, and that's the you know, the majority
of the NFL spreads between three and five points, two
and five points go look on on any given so.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Today, so when it's the big boys out there playing,
and that was with the Chiefs already going into the
game without the number one tight end.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
In football, yeah, and their defensive star, and you can make.

Speaker 5 (05:58):
Case the number one, two or three d I'm in football.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
I think last year he interior guys, I mean listen,
not in terms of the career, but he had a
better year than Aaron Donald did last year Aaron Donald's
that dude when it comes to his career.

Speaker 5 (06:10):
But last year, No, man, this is this is real guys.
This is the grown ups.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
This is the put the women in kids the rest.
Ye'all stay on the sideline when y'all talk about is
this team good or not good?

Speaker 5 (06:23):
Are we up with no?

Speaker 3 (06:24):
No?

Speaker 5 (06:24):
No no, no, no no good.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
If y'all want to do that, man, y'all do that
with them high schools with them, colleges with them rag
teams many baby, this this is this is the real
real Okay, the real boys here. Now what she wants
some real football. I want to see some on your TV.
So they want TV said, they want to cut.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
I'm just gonna look up from my spot because.

Speaker 5 (06:45):
The real boys, I hear now. I can't wait.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Man, I'm with you, you know. And again, we would
be fired up no matter who it was. You could
think the Steelers play two of those teams on their
schedule this year that people don't have a lot of
expectations for. And I'm talking to Houston Exans in the
Indianapolis colts.

Speaker 5 (07:01):
Man, and who's the quarterback for Heh's in.

Speaker 4 (07:03):
Texas Rookie high draft pick CJ. CJ.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
What did he do last year? Did you do any
last year? He had to be terrible last year? Pretty Texas? Right,
pretty good?

Speaker 5 (07:16):
Pretty good?

Speaker 4 (07:17):
He was a He was a blown kick or miss
away from beating Georgia.

Speaker 5 (07:21):
Don't think that this Will. It's a Will Anderson. Some
heavy dude played at Alabama. I think was one of
the I.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
Think he was pretty good.

Speaker 5 (07:27):
You gotta stuck to right. He's not very good. Oh then, oh, then,
but you know what I'm talking about.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
I think the Niners is a Again, it's the NFL.
Every matchup has its own intriguing angles and juiciness to it. Right,
as you've correctly laid out, we'd be jacked up no
matter what, especially Week one, especially at home, something that
hasn't happened in darn near, in darn near a decade. Yeah,
But when you get a franchise like the Niners, who

(07:53):
over the last five years has been you know, with
the Eagles, the two kind of perennial teams in the NFC. Uh,
the Rams there I think as well to certainly in
that conversation, they've been to a super Bowl, they've been
to a handful of NFC championship games. Uh, They are
a team that is a popular pick to get back
to an NFC championship game, even go and win the

(08:14):
Super Bowl this year. They are also a a Tier
one status NFL franchise. Right, it's very rare air when
you get five or six Super Bowls. I mean, it's
the Steelers in the.

Speaker 5 (08:25):
Patch, respectful week one. I can't believe.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
I'm gonna listen. Just wait till you here. You got
to build them up before you cut them down. So
this is respect with all due respect. Now when we
get to the here we Go song, that will be
the having said.

Speaker 5 (08:41):
All that, okay portion of the show. Okay, so fand
respect then continue.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
You know, five Lombardes, which is tied with the Cowboys,
right behind the Steelers and the Patriots, historic franchise, historic
fan base, all these different things.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
You know, a West Coast team that you don't.

Speaker 5 (08:57):
See, super duper duper nice and respectful.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
Man.

Speaker 4 (09:01):
All right, man, you're hometown.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
Respect respect, I got a low life, you know, same
time for the Bay Area, yay area.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
This is the the Bosa and TJ juxtaposition. Was juxtaposition
the big word that we used to use.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
It definitely was not But I can definitely with that, yeah,
because we ain't never used no words with Jay's and
x's and all that type of stuff.

Speaker 5 (09:24):
You know that that that's.

Speaker 4 (09:25):
Until until Elon made us get on X.

Speaker 5 (09:27):
Yeah, and then we recovered since.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
Picking party juxtaposition Bosa and you know, you got the
two quarterbacks from last year's draft, the first and the
last one taken. You got the last two defensive player
that there is a lot to get excited about in this.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
Matchupp absolutely and I love KEI for like, I just
had an epiphany. I feel like it was penultimate, bro,
because you would say that, and I bet y that's
a big word.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
Like penultimate.

Speaker 5 (09:50):
Yeah. Right, I'm almost one hundred percent.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
Last week and then I was driving home and I
was like, and.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
When you said the position, I'm like, no, but it
was definitely penn ultimate because you usually drop, yeah, this
depends ultimate to whatever, and I'm like, that's.

Speaker 5 (10:04):
A big word.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Come on, bro, it is. But I do like that
though I feel like it was penultimate. It just I
feel like it just came back to me.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
I think you're just came back to me sometimes.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
Surely it's kind of like riding a bike. You do
it long enough, man, it'll come back to you. And
when it comes to weak ones and excitement surrounding Steller
Nation is an awesome Friday show.

Speaker 5 (10:30):
I mean, this is what we want.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
Man, You're talking about literally everything you just laid out
one hundred percent. But then I take it a step further.
We also have storylines in the sense of how good
is this stealer steam because there are a lot of
expectations that have start to be coming, you know, that
have presented themselves a lot more from a national perspective
now that they've been kind of hearing the rumblings that

(10:53):
the guys been making. But then when I think of Rock,
pretty similar thing could be said about him. He started
out really high last year right now. Granted, the context
was different because it was middle of the season, highly
efficient team already. He came into a great system and
was also beately able to execute it. But it was
a very small sample size, the same way we are

(11:14):
hesitant to completely buy into Kenny Pickett's success because it
was a small sample size. Hasn't played, hadn't started seventeen games.
I don'tone played seventeen games, which is crazy, brock Praty.

Speaker 5 (11:24):
It's even less games.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
So With that being the context, there is some question
marks surrounding him in his year two development, especially with
the offseason that he had. He had severe elbow surgery
to repair the UCL, so he was not doing all
of the OTA's mini camps. He was not doing all
those on field reps.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
Which is huge after your rookie season.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
When you talk about making those year two jumps that
we've already been seeing glimpses of from Kenny, it stems
from their confidence. It stems from their understanding in the
defense and their rapport with the receivers and with the
coordinator for party. They have confidence in him because he
was able to come in on a moving train last season.

(12:07):
But now in terms of okay, hard reset, new year,
new personnel, new players around you, how do you guys
get back on the same page. We've seen him have
a couple of series and they did look good in
that preseason, but it was a couple of series. We're
talking about doing it for four quarters and then repeating process.

(12:28):
That's something for the Niners that I'm sure they're gonna
have to figure out. Can brock Pardy consistently do that
again this season and it's no longer you're catching teams
off guard because it's in season and we're trying to
figure out everything while trying to gain more film on party.
Pittsburgh has been having tape on party since his last
game when he got hurt a the NFC Championship game.

(12:50):
We've had a lot of time to formulate ways to
attack him, to identify his strengths and his weaknesses. And
that's also in concert with what we've already viewed as
weaknesses on this Niners team. So for you know, both parties,
it's gonna be some some some things getting validated and
confirmed or some bigger question marks starting to present themselves.

Speaker 5 (13:14):
So I'm really eager to see that. Man.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
I am as well too. You're right, there's no more
secrets in terms of I think that works in Kenny
Pickett's way. There's no more catching people off guard. They've
got all the film on you from last season. They've
seen the five drives for the first team offense, five
touchdowns in the preseason. I tell you what, it's exciting.
There's a lot of hype around both of these teams.

(13:36):
Both of these teams fan bases think that they have
rosters that can win the division, that can win playoff
games and maybe even lift that Lombardi, which would be
historic for both franchises. Steelers would become first to seven
Niners would kind of share that top of the mountain
with Pittsburgh and New England as well too. It's an
exciting one to get The season started one o'clock at

(13:58):
Acrasure Stadium on Sunday. We got the tweets rolling in here.
Arthur Motes. Uh, we want your predictions, right, No, we don't.

Speaker 4 (14:07):
Yeah, he's he's mean.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
He's means sometimes that Arthur Motes isn't he I tell
y'all we want your We want your predictions as well.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
If you are. I know we're on nine to seventy ESPN.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
So uh, maybe some some new listeners who are rocking
and roll us rocking and rolling with us for the
first time this season. I think every year you kind
of pick up more listeners around training camp time as
the SNR brand continues to grow and then the reach
continues to grow.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
This is Wesley Juler's brand as well. Let let's not
act like I'll settle you just some regular regular like
I said, let's settle Let's not act like when when
I said, hey, you got to tell your TV on
at one o'clock, and you took exception. It was for
very very good reason, because you don't just watch the
games like us common folk. US common folks gotta have

(14:53):
a ticket, ticket stuff, get your clear bit. Well, not
everybody has the clear bag possy, but a lot of
people are gonna have clear bag policies.

Speaker 5 (15:00):
Things like that.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
You know that they got out by by you, my friend,
are different. You don't walk in like us common folks
before they even say hey, we're even opening our doors.

Speaker 5 (15:11):
They even give you the opportunity to come in here.

Speaker 3 (15:13):
Oh you are ready and had your second cup of
coffee toes up, and you over here taking Instagram pics, baby,
and I'm be liking them too. You know i'd be
liking you picks now, you know how I do all right,
But you have a big timer, man, I'd.

Speaker 4 (15:26):
Be there about eight eight thirty in the morning o'clock.

Speaker 3 (15:28):
Course, of course, we have added to the collection of
supporters of listeners because of you.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
Man, are well, thank you. You're giving me too much credit,
but I appreciate you. I'll take you know what, I'll
take the credit. How about that you should if you
are if you are new to the party. Right, as
John McCain would say, Pal, we do some goofy stuff
here on Fridays, some professional yet goofy stuff here on Fridays.
One of the things that we ask of you is
to tweet us x US whatever the heck we're calling

(15:58):
it this week predictions, what you think the score will be.
Our promise to you is that we will read those
off before we get out of here at the end
of the show. That's the reward for your participation is
your prediction will get read right here on Steelers Nation
Radio in nine to seventy ESPN, Pittsburgh. We also are
joined by our buddy Brian Beco every Friday to get
his prediction in his thoughts man from the locker room

(16:18):
as well too, as he joins us right after availability
and all those things wrap up on Fridays, Arthur Motes
at the top of the second hour of the show,
so one o'clock if you're on the East Coast and
listening live, he gives those five star Friday matchups.

Speaker 4 (16:33):
It's a five star matchup because we're in it.

Speaker 5 (16:36):
You heard it.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
Where he will tell you the five most important matchups
that will determine the outcome of Steelers niners and to
get out of here. On Fridays, Oh oh, what we do?
We sing the here we Go song, which is a
very simple concept, the song classic Roger Woods here we Go.

Speaker 5 (16:58):
I love that song.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
Yeah, we take that song. We rewrite the lyrics every
single week about the Steelers upcoming opponent.

Speaker 4 (17:07):
That's the that's that, with.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
All that being said, with all due respect, that's you
know where the where the disses and the trash talk
tend to come out there.

Speaker 4 (17:18):
So we love a Friday show.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
One because it's very easy for us to plan because
we already got all these built in benchmarks. There's not
a lot of uh, we got to do like a
segment or two and then after that we're into our
regular But we also love it because it's fun, it's goofy.
We got all these different Friday fixs for you and
it's a big day for you to get involved as
well too, so you know where to get at us
if you do want to get involved. Wesley Yuler Arthur

(17:42):
Motes will roll along. It's the Steelers Blitz on SNR.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
This is the Steelers Blitz with Wesley Euler and Arthur
Motes on your twenty four to seven Home of the
Black and Gold skn R.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
Oh yeah, we blitzing on a Friday, having some fun
as we always do. The tweets are rolling in. Get
those predictions in now. We will give them to you
in the read them out to everyone. I should say
in the final segment of the show, we do five jeez,
I'm all jacked up here.

Speaker 4 (18:29):
We got a million things going on when.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
We do our here we go song Arthur Motes about
a half an hour from now to start the one
o'clock hour, will give you your five star Friday matchups
here and as we anxiously await the Steelers Niners Sunday
one o'clock at Akerser Stadium, the home and season opener
for your Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, Mozi, some big happenings going

(18:51):
on out there right in the land of our listeners.

Speaker 4 (18:54):
I like that. I'm might have to use that in
the future, the land of the Land of our listeners.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
Anybody who listened to the Locker Room with from Max
earlier heard from CR. If you're on Twitter, you've seen it.
Our guy CR driving from Chicago to Pittsburgh for his
first ever time going to a Steelers home game. He's
seen him on the road, Mozi, he seen him there, here, there, everywhere,
Well just not here, I guess in Pittsburgh. But cr
will be in the building for the first time fifty

(19:19):
years a Steeler fan and is going to be in
attendance on Sunday. We've also got our guy Steeler Nation
nine to twenty, Tyler of course up in Wisconson, who
was bringing the family to Akerschure Stadium for the opener.
And we you know, normally on Fridays, we saved the
tweets for the end of the.

Speaker 5 (19:35):
Show, right, Yeah, sometimes.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
But I saw this one from Tyler. His I'll save
his prediction for the end of the show. But I
saw this from Tyler, and I thought it was kind
of time time sensitive. Yes, for some reason, I kept
thinking pertinent there, But you're right, time sensitively pertinent.

Speaker 5 (19:53):
That's a big word.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
And so I want because him and the family, wife
and the kids just on into town, right, And so
our buddy Tyler tweets and says a couple questions here,
wife wants to know your favorite winery near or in Pittsburgh.
I was just gonna say, look at you and I
Narcissi Winery, all right, missus Steeler Nation nine twenty Uh,
it's what maybe twenty minutes outside of the city, not far,

(20:18):
and it's really really good. Second question, best cheeseburger in
the city.

Speaker 5 (20:26):
Where you sending them for there?

Speaker 2 (20:29):
Moon Lit Burgers in Dormont, Man moon Lit Burger in Dormont.
Now Burgatory fantastic as well too. There's a few of
those around.

Speaker 5 (20:38):
See. It doesn't count though, because Burgatory is chain.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
But it's a Pittsburgh chain. It's like Permann's counts, right,
Permande's a Pittsburgh chain.

Speaker 5 (20:45):
No, it's different, same, but.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
No, listen, moon Littburger's in Dormont. I'm not even fronting.
Some of the best burgers are ahead of my life.

Speaker 3 (20:57):
There you go to Moonlit, you like you, and Pittsburgh
you can go to Burgatory, you can feel like you
an idiot.

Speaker 5 (21:03):
Other like nice established shots fires.

Speaker 4 (21:06):
I thought you liked the Burgatory.

Speaker 3 (21:08):
No, I love Burgatory. Okay, okay, yeah, but that's like
what you're saying. That's like saying, hey, where you want
to go for pizza? Let me go to Minno, it
ain't pizza hood. They got pizza hood all the round.

Speaker 5 (21:17):
Man, yeah, man, or.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
Now hold on, it's it's not five guys. It's like
a big chain. Now, five guys makes delicious burgers too.

Speaker 5 (21:27):
They do. Are you recommended five guys in general? Yes?

Speaker 4 (21:31):
But in Pittsburg moonlit burgers all right?

Speaker 5 (21:34):
Darmont Yes.

Speaker 2 (21:35):
Final answer Also, he says, what do I get it?
Chicken and pizza, crab fries.

Speaker 5 (21:39):
Oh, absolute craft fries next season on.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
Their chicken tenders are delicious. They make pretty good cheese
steaks too, but.

Speaker 3 (21:44):
None of that matters. The fries are the most portant. Well,
I say it one time crab fries.

Speaker 4 (21:49):
Crab starts, the crab ends with the fries.

Speaker 5 (21:51):
That's what I say, is that crab with a literacy.
Crab fries. Check, they're fine too? They are? You said
that you know not gonna get me some of them
on Sunday? Right?

Speaker 4 (21:59):
I know you are big time.

Speaker 5 (22:01):
No, it's because I'm small time.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
I've gotta you know, I've got a slave away with
just that prime rib and the sandwiches that they make
us up in the pressure.

Speaker 5 (22:08):
Food with forks and knives.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
Okay, you're gonna be with forks and knives, nice little napkins,
air conditioned. You know person over there, say hey, wan
clear chest, mister Wheler. Us regular folks will be down there,
you know, all right, you hold yours on your leg,
on my whole mine on this hend. All right. I'm
gonna hold my drink with my teeth and then I'm
gonna walk here and I'm a beer hug.

Speaker 5 (22:30):
The other thing over here, My snacks right here, you
know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (22:32):
We just gonna hope hopefully nobody bumps it to us
while we make it to our seats.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
You know, Mozi, I have never I've gone down to
the concourse before games to visit friends and family. Oh
but I've never gone down and got the common foods.

Speaker 5 (22:45):
You don't know what that's slave with us, common folks, regular.

Speaker 4 (22:48):
Common focus, regular Right.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
I just get earlier access to the building than you guys,
because it takes me ninety minutes to set up and
test everything that we gotta. And you know, I'm just
a ball of anxiety on game days because if the
broadcast does and get on the air, guess whose vault
it is.

Speaker 4 (23:03):
But I might have best Heath Ledger voice. Well you're
gonna have to break your one rule.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
Oh that wasn't very good, But I mean trying to
trying to impersonate just an icon there. I might have
to break my one rule and go get some Chicky
and Petee to celebrate the occasion of the home opener.
That does sound fan friggantastic motzy Steelers Niners. You know,
I mentioned Pickett and Party, but how about Patrick and Party.

(23:30):
Little back and forth between Pat Pete and Brock Party.
Nothing I don't think menacing, but certainly noteworthy. Patrick Patrick
Peterson was talking about how he has noticed on his
on his podcast. I believe it was that he does
with our guy Brian mcfatten as well too, one of
our favorite training camp guests Steelers alumni no big deal

(23:51):
cousin of Patrick Peterson as well too, that he thinks
he's gonna get an interception on Sunday because he the
Niners have a tell on offense that he has discovered.
He thinks that's gonna tip him off. He's gonna be
able to read a play and he's gonna be able
to make a play and he is Babe Bruce fashion
calling his shot of an interception on Sunday. Brock Party
was then asked about that and he said, hey, you know,

(24:12):
I don't doubt that he's done his film study. He's
a great player. I grew up watching him, so I
know that he's a legend and I've got respect for him.

Speaker 4 (24:22):
So you know, Pat Pete.

Speaker 2 (24:23):
There with a little little shade at the Niners off
and nothing nothing bad, but just a little calling his
shot brock party with I think the ultimate backhand I
grew up watching him is about as good of a
backhanded common as you can have of Yeah, this guy's
a legend, but yeah this guy old so Mozi party
Pat Pete. War of words fair on both sides. I

(24:45):
just surprise Pat Pete said that made that information public.

Speaker 5 (24:48):
I just love how media tries to take eighty can
make it a.

Speaker 4 (24:52):
Now hold on he said it on the podcast hold On,
are you not listening?

Speaker 3 (24:55):
You see how you just got all jacked up antop
Media makes anything into this controversy, he said, I dial
my job. Anybody that watches film in the NFL, if
you're doing it the way you're supposed to, every single

(25:16):
player in the NFL has a tail, every single one,
every single coach has a tail, every single offense.

Speaker 4 (25:28):
Interesting. I don't think I've ever had this conversation before.

Speaker 5 (25:31):
We've had this. It just goes over everybody's head.

Speaker 4 (25:33):
Every single player.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
Though, if you wes think about it like this, if
I put a camera on you and I watch everything
you do, just your professionalism right, because when you're watching tape,
what is the tape covering every single play that you play?
So every single snap, if you watch it as a TV,

(25:58):
as a game for entertainment, you're not gonna pick up
on it. Every time Mahomes might do this thing, it
might not pick up on it to you because you're
just watching in the floor of the game. It's so
much going on. You got commented, you got the crowds,
you got the big kid to tackle the penalty, everything right,
it gets the strike is lost in the shuffle. But
when you're talking about how to watch film, and especially
Pat Peterson, right, this is a dude that I know person.

Speaker 5 (26:21):
He knows what he's doing. You cut it up.

Speaker 3 (26:26):
Give me every single rock pretty dropped back past what
he rolled to his right.

Speaker 5 (26:31):
If I watch you do it a thousand times.

Speaker 4 (26:33):
You gonna notice something.

Speaker 5 (26:34):
Now, give me every.

Speaker 3 (26:35):
Single time he does to the left. I'm gonna see
what you do pre snap. I'm gonna see what you
do doing this snap and I'm what you're doing post snap. Now,
let me see what you do out the gun. Let
me see when it's gun with McCaffrey and it to
your right going mccaffree, and into your left if it's empty.
These are all the different things when you're talking about
watching tape. Sure, in terms of how to get the advantage,

(26:57):
that's what it is. But it takes time. Not a
lot of people want to do it. And that's why
while we talk about the year the career average being
two and a half years, because what I just told you,
not everybody.

Speaker 4 (27:05):
Want to do that's hours a week.

Speaker 3 (27:06):
You know why don't want to do that? Because it's
more fun to be on social media. It's more fun
to be at the club. It's more fun to be
with your lady. It's more fun to be doing whatever
you else you want to do. But for the dudes
that make it last in this league, man, that's how
you watch SATE. So when I tell you every single
player has some type of tale, every sing.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
Okay, because I got some time, I've got two starting
fire up follow up questions for you here. Then, first one,
what would you say an average on week during the season,
you spent hours watching watching tape.

Speaker 3 (27:36):
So put it like this, I don't even count what
we do in the facility because that's what I mean,
that's the prerequisit. But you're probably watching, realistically about four
hours of tape minimum on your own because you're gonna
watch something in the morning when you first wake up,
when you're doing your cardio, you're watching tape right there.
That's when you're when you're running on the track asolute,
when you come back home and you're getting treatment, be watching.

Speaker 4 (27:58):
Tape while you're getting a mass.

Speaker 5 (28:02):
You watch all hours. You're watching tape.

Speaker 3 (28:05):
Anytime you're in the cold top hop tup, you're absolutely watching,
absolutely absolutely. But then after that, you're typically gonna have
something going on at the late night, whether it's us
as a unit getting together or you as an individual.
And then you got the guys like me who just
can't sleep. So when I can't sleep, I get bored.
When I get bored, I say, I can either go

(28:26):
online and get in trouble. I can either spend some
money or I can cut on tape. So for me,
I'll watch even more tape. So when I tell you
bare minimum four hours per day of just crazy. That
doesn't count. If I couldn't sleep that night and I'm
up another hour two, I may just watch the run
cut ups. Let me watch every third down pass right here.
Let me watch them situationally. What do they call when

(28:46):
they're in the twenty versus when they're in the thirty
high red versus red zone? First when they get to
the five, Because now the field's getting condensed, they're starting
to transition from vertical plays. The more lateral plays, you
start understanding situational football. When you say don't get beat
to the flat, if you're just watching the game, you're
not gonna understand why we say don't get beat to
the flat. But when you show the cutups of how

(29:08):
many touchdowns take place within the ten yards in outside
the numbers, you're like, bro, it becomes superlateral.

Speaker 5 (29:16):
You better start calling cover two.

Speaker 3 (29:18):
You want something where you got hard corners outside because
you know it's a lateral approach now. But those are
the things that show up by watching the tape. And
that's why we always say, like, man, you can have
an opinion on people because of the highlights, But highlights.

Speaker 5 (29:32):
Lie to you all the time. Oh, absolutely highlights. How
you thinking this players all world.

Speaker 3 (29:36):
You watch him on a cut up of just every
single time he's ran that roll, You're like, bro, he
is not good at this man. It's one hundred times
he ran he only had success four times. But that's
not like and it's funny you say that. That reminds me
of That was what MARYL.

Speaker 2 (29:47):
Hodge was telling everybody about Jadavian Clowney when he came
out of South Carolina and everyone was like laughing, MARYL Hodge,
off it, Madge, this guy isn't the number one overall pick.

Speaker 5 (29:56):
And everyone was like, did.

Speaker 4 (29:57):
You see him kill that running back from Michigan?

Speaker 2 (29:59):
Right.

Speaker 3 (29:59):
It's like, if you're looking for highlights and excitement and
social media plays, hey, yes you'll find a lot of
those dudes out there. But when you're talking about play
in playout guys, you can legit depend on to be
that that's you're gonna see that. You're not going to
just have to cuddle a highlight and it say oh,
when I look at highlights, it's more so they said, Okay,

(30:19):
if your highlight is intriguing, now I want to cut
on the actual game because now you've got my attention.
If your highlight tape trash, and it's like, bro, you
really ain't doing nothing, because everybody should have a fire
highlight tape, right, even if it's two minutes long, give
me thirty seconds. You gotta have some highlights up there,
all right. But after that, after enough highlights, I'm cut
on the game. I want to say, man, how did
you what did you get the rest of this game?

(30:41):
Was it bad matchup? Was it a that guy was
injured and it was down today third corner? Or is
it really You're like, thats hard to tell that all
the time from a highlight.

Speaker 5 (30:51):
Did the guy slip on that play? But the rest
of the game he locked you up?

Speaker 3 (30:54):
Was it like the Daryl Reeves Randy Moss highlight where
they show mass getting the touchdown early on in the game,
and then it's like, what happened and the rest of.

Speaker 5 (31:00):
The game, Oh, don't want to talk about one.

Speaker 3 (31:04):
But with the highlight and how you think it, Reevers
got cooked for four quarters? You're like, bro, what I
watched that game?

Speaker 4 (31:09):
He did not do that reception that it.

Speaker 3 (31:11):
Just happened on the first place. The safety was bad
eyes and revers the highlight got you. But that's the
context that transitions from highlight to actual play. So that's
my whole thing with Pat Pete. Man, what he said
is not wrong. I too agree. If you've heard me talk,
I'm like, bro, I think you're gonna get two picks.
I didn't say Pat Pete sbely. I thought he did

(31:32):
one to think me gets the other one because me
because another guy that studies taped like that and based
on what they like to do offensively in terms of
just having brought pretty, turning his back to them sometimes
and then reading it on the fly. With those type
of dudes, there are tendencies, there are little tails, and
they're gonna pick up on that stuff.

Speaker 5 (31:49):
And that's what they're saying. If we can time it
up right and catch it.

Speaker 3 (31:52):
Like we think we can, we could jump one of
these plays because he will put it out there because
a lot of it is more the schematic of the
Shanahan offense versus it being pretty improvising. When you talk
Mahomes like last night improvise right big time. You would
see the initial play happen, and then you would see
when Mahomes took over the play.

Speaker 4 (32:12):
Seem just begging for somebody to help him out.

Speaker 3 (32:15):
Party hasn't shown that part right, he's there and in
the West Coast offense, it works perfectly for him while
you think Sam Donald is thriving out there.

Speaker 2 (32:28):
It's the same reason the Rams went to the Super
Bowl with Jared Goff. I mean that was the same thing.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
Between the lines, color, between the lines, don't turn our
ball over, man, This spreme itself is designed to have
you thrown the wide open guys.

Speaker 4 (32:43):
That's it.

Speaker 3 (32:44):
So for us simple it's just like, man, if this
pass rest does what I think is gonna do, you're
ultimately gonna make him have to play faster or improvise.
And that's what Pat p and I'm sure that's what
Menka are both looking at and saying. When that happens,
we will get one of these things we can't jump.
But that's the whole day though. It's just like he
say that, and it's like, whoah my god, I can't

(33:04):
believe he says, we get a picky calling him it
is this, and it's like.

Speaker 1 (33:07):
We're we're.

Speaker 2 (33:09):
We're all a bunch of cops reading Miranda rights these days.
Anything you say.

Speaker 5 (33:15):
I'm like, oh, he said, was I watch tape? I'm
a professional.

Speaker 3 (33:17):
I hope you're doing your same over there, because I
see something that I like. If you're pretty, you should
be saying I watch tape too. I'm watching tape a
lot on you. It's way more tape on you than
it is on me. I like some things that I
see too. How about that dig it?

Speaker 2 (33:29):
When we come back on the other side, we got
to get to a break. I want Moses answered this
time second birding question, which is, okay, if every NFL
player and coach has a tell, what was our for?
Moteses tell he's got to spill the beans. On the
other side, we will also tell you our favorite bets
of the upcoming weekend show me the money as we
close out the first hour of this program's Steelers Blitz

(33:51):
on SNR.

Speaker 1 (34:11):
This is the Steeler's Blitz with Wesley Euler and Arthur
Motes on your twenty four to seven Home of the
Black and gold S n R.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
All right, Arthur Motes, spill the beans. You just said
it minutes ago. Every player, every coach in the NFL
has a tell. So what was yours?

Speaker 5 (34:29):
Old buddy, I don't remember anymore. Ha ha huh huh hah.

Speaker 2 (34:37):
Now you and I had an insightful conversation during break.
And it's funny they that's one of those radioisms, is
that the best conversations actually happens during break, and sometimes
that is the case. And I was picking Motes's brain
about all right, tell me about Troy poul Malley, tell
me about Ryan Shazier, tell me about Debo. How these
guys used to watch film and stuff. And we were
laughing and going back and forth. You said, one of
the things that guys do in film study is they

(34:59):
study their tells.

Speaker 3 (35:00):
Yeah, man, self, scout, you gotta be able to watch
yourself to understand not just the tales that you're picking up. Right,
offensive lineman, does he anyone who watched the game last
night the right tackle for the Chiefs pass plays, it
was really clear he's gonna be a half yard back
helmet barely breaking the guard or center's belt line. On

(35:21):
run plays, he's even with those dudes, ready to fire
off that ball and understanding why what? Because on pass
plays he needs to get back because he was facing
Aiden Hutchinson.

Speaker 5 (35:31):
He was a really good player.

Speaker 3 (35:32):
Sure, on run plays, you're not worried about going back,
but you're trying to get the advantage to win the
grass for the you know, open up the holes and
stuff like that. But those were tells. Those were legit
run past keys, right, just a little clear example right there, right.
But then what you have to worry about is the
self scout part. And that's yes, I'm reading your tails,
your keys, but also what information am I giving you?

(35:55):
Because if I see, oh it's a run play, and
every time it's a run play, I adjust my wrist straps, right,
what do you think that's that's you know, Or if
it's a blitz play, I look at my wristband because
I need to see what number it is, right, But.

Speaker 4 (36:09):
When it's not something with you.

Speaker 3 (36:11):
But when it's not a blitz, I don't look down
at my wristband. What kids that telling you? Every single
time going forward, when I look down, you know it's
a blitz coming. So if you're that quarterback, you know, hey,
I got you ready to get rid of this ball?
Hot or I'm checking the protection. Two seconds okay, oh
they called a call. He ain't look at nothing. Oh
they playing coverage, bro, we got time. Now that's information

(36:31):
and that was one of my one of my tails
early on. Actually this happened to me in college. This
is one of my tails have. My coach called me
out on it. He's like, listen and he showed me.
He was like, these are ten plays from the game.
He said, five players are blitzes, five players are not blitters.
Listen if you can tell the difference. And sure enough,
you see me look down at my little my little

(36:51):
place sheet on my little wristband. I'm going inside on
the blitz. We got a hot blitz coming. They called
a call. I don't look at that sheet at all. Oh,
it's a regular call, just coverage with rushing four and
literally every single play you could tell the difference or and.

Speaker 5 (37:07):
It was one of my tales.

Speaker 3 (37:08):
And I was like, all right, I got to learn
this that even though I know my calls, I either
need to memorize the whole sheet where I don't look
down at all, or on every single one.

Speaker 4 (37:17):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (37:17):
So for me, you look no, I'm an overachiever. I
was like, I'm a memorize it. Bro of course. Yeah.
I just said it was extra cool, like, oh, i't
look at all and how about that? Yeah? So that
was that.

Speaker 3 (37:28):
But that was that was definitely one of my tips
early on. You know, some of the other stuff that
I had picked up just you know, self scout.

Speaker 5 (37:34):
And learning setting up stuff.

Speaker 3 (37:38):
James Harrison was one of the guys I love because
I learned how to set up some of my outside
Russias by acting like I was going to blitz the
B gap. And I never really understood why he would
do it. I remember when I was in Buffalo, I
would watch it on table and I'm like, bro, every
time this due sometimes he rushing inside. Then he'll do
this like fake little two steps shuffle and he'll rush
offs that, but he always wins because the guy's like

(37:59):
crashing out.

Speaker 5 (37:59):
So I'm like, what is this? I hate this. I
don't understand how to move work right.

Speaker 3 (38:02):
And then I get here and I talked to me like, bro,
I'm just setting it up instead of me, you know,
trying to just line up outside and beat this dude
every single time with speed power. When he knows it's coming,
I'm gonna give him the look that I've been showing
him when I go inside. And if every single time
I've done this look i've gone inside, if he's doing
his homework like he should be, he's gonna bite on this.

(38:24):
And it made that's awesome, perfect sense I'm like, I
get it now. But that's self scout and that's film study,
and that's ultimately how you do it and how you
can you know, have a long career because a lot
of people will not a lot of people make it,
but there has been a ton of people that made
it to the NFLF. You think about it a lot,
but in terms of longevity, in terms of you know,

(38:44):
having a career longer than the average career span, which
is two and a half seasons not.

Speaker 5 (38:50):
Listen, very scarce.

Speaker 3 (38:52):
And then if you go like you know, oh yeah,
once you get to the five year mark, it's crazy.

Speaker 5 (38:57):
When you get to the seven it's five seven, and
then the nine.

Speaker 3 (39:01):
Year mark is where you get an even bigger drop off,
and then it's the twelve years. You get twelve and yeah,
it's like, all right, man, we ain't got a lot
of these dudes, jacket guy, if you're playing that long, absolutely,
but that's the beauty of it, and that's why, like
you said, when you get it to that extent, usually
were the junkies when you came here. He's a football junkie,

(39:22):
Pat Pete, football junkie. That's you know, it's no surprise TJ.
White is no surprise. Yeah, you have the guy given talent.
But it's the film study. It's the round the clock
self scout along with let me see what they do
to bother me? What type of tackles do I struggle with?

(39:44):
Most people will struggle with big bodies. I didn't mind
big bodies because I'm a smaller speed rusher. I'm gonna
make a big dude have to dance with me. I
didn't like a Kelvin Beacham type because he's smaller and
athletics exactly.

Speaker 5 (39:59):
I'm like, no, I need it's all dude, give me,
give me something. This sixty six.

Speaker 3 (40:03):
Yeah, oh this is Brian McKinney, big mountain can This
is great.

Speaker 5 (40:07):
Thank you. I love this.

Speaker 3 (40:09):
Yeah, don't give me nothing. This small athletic could move
around and dance. Oh, Broderick Jones type I would hate.
I'm like, ew, you can move. I don't want that.
I want the big, big er. He's such an ogre.
Give me, gim me go liath man.

Speaker 5 (40:22):
I love it.

Speaker 4 (40:23):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (40:23):
Some insight there man from Arthur Motes, the one with
the decade of experience in the National Football League on
this show. Spoiler alert he does have a good head
of hair as well too, though, I will say, all right, Mozy,
we're overdue for a break here.

Speaker 4 (40:35):
But real quick, show me the money.

Speaker 2 (40:39):
Simple concept dusting off an old favorite here, I take
a look at some of the lines and things like
that around the National Football League, and I.

Speaker 4 (40:44):
Give you some picks for the week.

Speaker 1 (40:46):
Now.

Speaker 2 (40:46):
When we did this in the past four straight seasons,
I had a winning Pickham record.

Speaker 5 (40:52):
This is also true.

Speaker 2 (40:52):
Probably shouldn't have put that out there because now I
jinxed myself and I'm gonna have a losing one this season.

Speaker 5 (40:56):
But just take such a negative person with that.

Speaker 2 (40:59):
Information what you will, Well, Mozi, I'm gonna give four
picks here, okay, and then I want like ten seconds
of your thoughts before we go to break here, real quick.
I like the Vikings at home minus six against Tampa Bay.
Not to blow them out or anything, but I think
Tampa Bay is going to really take a step back
this year. I think the Vikings are poised to start
hot on offense. They win that game by seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven,

(41:20):
twelve something like that. Vikings minus six.

Speaker 3 (41:23):
Yeah, both teams got turnover, But when it's turnover with
the quarterback position that matters a lot more.

Speaker 4 (41:27):
Big time Packers money line at the Bears.

Speaker 2 (41:30):
Just Packers straight up their slight underdogs, just straight up
to win in Chicago. I'm believing that Jordan Love is
gonna be pretty decent right out of the gate. I'm
believing that that Packers team's not gonna fall off the
face of the earth after losing Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 5 (41:42):
The Packers are the better team.

Speaker 3 (41:44):
Justin Phills is electric, but we got to see how
electric that can be in terms of getting wins.

Speaker 4 (41:50):
Completely agree.

Speaker 2 (41:51):
Broncos minus three and a half at home against the Raiders.
Always a tough place to play. New quarterback for the
Raiders and Jimmy g who didn't have a ton of
offseason either. And yes, I know Russell Wilson, Sean Payton,
new kind of system there. But I'll take them to
win by four, five six points something like that. Minus
three and a half all lay the points.

Speaker 3 (42:09):
Yeah, don't have a strong stance on that. I just
don't like the matchup period because both teams are It might.

Speaker 5 (42:14):
Be ugly, Yeah, it might be hugly.

Speaker 2 (42:16):
Final one Eagles traveling to New England. Give me the
Birds minus four. They win that game by a comfortable touchdown,
maybe nine or ten points. Eagles minus four at New England.

Speaker 3 (42:26):
Yeah, Eagles, man, they're trying to get back to the
dance and they know they got to start fast and
every game is gonna matter. And for New England, well,

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
