Speaker 3 (01:52):
Final time in our in season programming here on our
penultimate day in the studio.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
Rob King at twelve.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Forty, I want to get into some conversation about George
Pickenska from another well known, talented but sometimes in the
news for the wrong reasons, wide receiver that we all know.
But Arthur Motes today, Oh and NFL Honors is tonight.
(02:21):
A lot going on still with the Super Bowl obviously,
but today Arthur Motes, we start with a little audio
that I want to play for you. All right, Well,
so I gotta pot down the blitz open here as
I think we've got some legitimate offseason scoop and listen.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
This happens super Bowl week.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
There's a lot of shows, a lot of conversations, and
with that legitimate news. Jay Glazer, of course, everybody knows
he's one of the big NFL insiders, one of the
Adam Schefter Ian Rappaport types of the world. He works
for Fox, and he has a nice relationship with Mike Tomlin.
I think that is well known across Steeler Land at
(03:00):
this point. If you're somebody who goes to training camp,
you probably see Jay Glazer there every year. In this
clip here, he talks about how he was texting with
Mike Tomlin. So it's well known that Jay Glazer and
Mike Tomlin have a good relationship. What I mean by
that Mozie is usually when Jay Glazer says something about
the Steelers, I believe him. I listen, and so Jay Glazer.
(03:20):
He was on with Matthew Berry on the I believe
it's called the Fantasy Football Happy Yeah again, now a
million different shows and a million different avenues, but with
Matthew Berry, well known football guy, Fantasy Football Happy Hour
talking about Russell Wilson and Justin Fields and their futures
as they relate to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Take a listen, I have a guy like that.
Speaker 5 (03:41):
Russell Wilson obviously has had a long career and going
back to free agency, Pete Carroll, I mean, this is
kind of connecting Donna. That one's over, right, that one's over.
Do you think it's more likely Russ goes back to
the Steelers because the ending there was also a little
weird too, So just a new start for us.
Speaker 6 (03:56):
I think you'll see a new start for Russell Smrel.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Yeah, especially who is the starting quarter back of the Steelers.
You think it's Justin? You think it's somebody I don't.
Speaker 7 (04:02):
I don't think I don't know I And again, like
these guys are the senior ball I was texting with
my Tom on the other day, he's the senior ball
like they're thinking about so they can compartmentalize only so
much so Senior Bowl, right. And then all of a
sudden next week they have come on meetings, right, and
so they're gonna start talking about free agency and what's
out there.
Speaker 6 (04:22):
But I don't think they know who they're their starting quarterbacks.
Canna be ut.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Interesting, Arthur Motz for a lot of different layers there.
So let's let's address the layers and then dissect the layers. Yeah, First,
Russell Wilson not only did he say he doesn't think
he's going to be with the Raiders, he also that
he doesn't think he's going to be with the Steelers,
that he's going to have a new start somewhere else.
And then Justin Fields not completely saying I don't think
(04:50):
he'll be with the Steelers, but he almost did there
For a second he goes, I don't think, well, you know,
I don't know so and then at the end he says,
I think it'll be a new quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The right off the top thing there to me is
he seems pretty With Justin Fields, it was a little
more iffy. But with Russell Wilson, he seems pretty adamant
(05:12):
that not only is he not going to be a Raider,
something that we've talked about as a possibility, that he's
not gonna be a Pittsburgh Steeler, And as Jay Glazer said,
I think it'll be a new.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Start for Russell Wilson.
Speaker 8 (05:22):
MO.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
It's again, this is significant to me because this is
not like coming from a reporter or a sources, and
this is Jay Glazer, a well respected guy, saying this
with his.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
Chest on a national TV show on Radio ROW.
Speaker 9 (05:36):
I mean it's cool. I would ask you this. Do
you believe Jay Glazer over Art Rooney?
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Well, no, I don't.
Speaker 9 (05:47):
Because what did Ar Rooney say specifically about both of
those guys?
Speaker 4 (05:51):
He would like to have one back said he.
Speaker 9 (05:54):
Liked that one bag, but he ain't say either was out.
Mister Rooney was like, I would like to have one
or the other. He said, I don't see a scenario
what both comes back because he thinks both guys you
themselves as starters.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Not I don't think when of these guys are capable
of being my star?
Speaker 4 (06:09):
Yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 9 (06:11):
So when I hear Jay, it's like man. I like
what he's doing. I like his approach to it because
it's exciting. But at the same time, how do I
not remember what mister Rooney also just said about them
two dudes. Mister Rudy said he would prefer one of
them dudes to be back to be the guy next year, Jay,
making it sound like neither one of them is gonna
be back. So that's why I say to you, which
(06:33):
would do you want to believe more of?
Speaker 3 (06:35):
That's why the Russell Wilson is more significant to me,
the guy of Justin Field's comments and real quick, let's
let's play the beginning of that again of a guy
like that.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
Russell Wilson obviously has had a long career and going
back to free agency, Pete Carroll, I mean, this is
kind of connecting down that one's over, right, that one's over.
Do you think it's more likely Russ goes back to
the Steelers because the ending there was also a little
weird too, So just a new start for us.
Speaker 6 (06:58):
I think you'll see for Russell Sumrael.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
Okay, so we've covered that, right, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
And trust met Jay could be right.
Speaker 6 (07:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Another part, that's the part he's very quick, very direct,
I think he knows both of those teams have made
their decisions. But listen to the Justin Fields part is
not as direct, a little more dancing around, not as
confident sounding. Here's what he said about Justin Fields.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Who is the starting quarterback of the Steelers. You think
it's justin't think it's somebody.
Speaker 6 (07:28):
I don't. I don't think. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
I a little more kind of waffling.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
So which one is it? Though? Are you extremely confident?
Are you affling?
Speaker 4 (07:38):
Can I?
Speaker 3 (07:38):
Can I pick my spot? I believe what he says
about Russell Wilson. I think there's still I still don't
think really anybody outside of the Steelers brain trust, mister Rooney,
Omar Kahn, Mike Tomlin.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
The ones that.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
Have a beat on Justin Fields. Here, is that fair
to to sir?
Speaker 8 (07:58):
Like?
Speaker 3 (07:58):
Can I listen to that and say, okay, I believe
what he's saying at first, and then but I'm still
not so sure about this?
Speaker 9 (08:03):
Oh no, you know how it goes, man. We got
differspectives on it, so trust me for you. Heck, care man,
there is nothing wrong with that. I just look at
it differently because I go from the horse's mouth.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
That's all I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 9 (08:17):
We didn't hear mister Rooney speak possibly of both of
these dudes. To me, it's a way different perspective from
my eyes. It's just when you got the owner, not
the position, coach, not anybody, the owner saying both of
them dudes. I'm looking at both of them, dudes, one
or the other. I want one back. I just lead
(08:39):
to that. I'm like, yo, I don't know which what.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
It will be. But he never told me. He just
simply said that either one.
Speaker 9 (08:44):
Jay makes it sounds like, yo, it's a already determined thing,
but then he walks it back to make it like
it's not already determined. Historiason. Why I'm looking at it
and what I'm saying, well, which one is it? Do
you got all this confidence and you dropping real stuff?
Or are you playing the game of let me throw
this out there, hold on, let me take that back
a little bit, let me throw this back out there,
hold on real quick, hold on quick, just in case,
(09:05):
just in case. Now, that's kind of how I looked
at it, because mister Rudy wasn't as confident on it.
So how's the guy that is cutting the check not
that confident. But Jay is that confident that he already
know it ain't this gude and it probably won't be
just got either. So I was just like, all right,
I like it though, because if he's right, it's dope
as heck four trust me it is.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
But I just you know, yeah, and owner everyone said.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Everybody who does this like it doesn't matter if you're
Adam Schefter or whoever.
Speaker 9 (09:32):
Like you want to cut you off, but I only
want to cut you off with. But think about this,
mister Rudy. From day one, when he's talked about both
of these guys and said positively about both of them,
I consider both. It's only been media and fans who
have made decisions or in his behalf basically said who
we like and who doesn't stand a chance. But the
(09:54):
man himself said, I'm considering both of these dudes. That's
my only thing. So it's like all of us got
these different opinions that we're gonna, you know, paint it
the way that we painted. But the boss Man, the
dude that is ultimately saying yay or nay, is saying yep,
I'm not decided on it, just yes, how the heck
are y'all that's my only day.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
I'm your institute of the conference.
Speaker 9 (10:17):
I'm like, bro, I love the confidence, but like man,
last time we heard the boss Man speak, he wasn't
even that confident. On it was that this two weeks
last it was, it was last week.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
We're not talking about a month. Two eggs, that's all.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Think maybe something changed in two weeks. But I think
I think you are correct.
Speaker 9 (10:36):
But from my perspective, I'm just slow like that because
I'm analytical. I'm looking at the full picture versus this
is like in the moment, this is spicy.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
In the moment, it's like, yo, whoa, whoa, whoa? What
was this?
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Because it's one of the storylines that everybody, it's a
national storyline, one of the Steelers doing at quarterback, not
just here amongst Steeler fans.
Speaker 9 (10:52):
Absolutely, so it's like everybody's gonna have something, and it's like,
all right, if your profils drop something, how don't feels
if you pro Russ drops something, how on rust? If
you're pro free agency or pro the draft, you're gonna
have something to make it feel a little bit more like, oh,
I kind of like this. And then the people are
doing now with the justin philis. He's like, what if
you take just with you bring just Phils back? But
(11:12):
your draft will Howard wf you bring just But I'm saying,
like everybody's trying to adding.
Speaker 10 (11:20):
Joke, be like, oh, but once again, we still know
it goes back to what mister he said tw weeks ago,
because if he would have said two weeks ago, hey,
Russ is not He's not in the conversation.
Speaker 9 (11:31):
It's either Phills or we're gonna look elsewhere. Way different mindset.
Right if he would have said, Yo, I'm going with Russ,
We're gonna let Fils go out there, way different mindset.
But he legitimately said even think about it, he gave
you every sing He was like, I prefer one of the.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
Other one or the other first, and that's probably what
they prefer to.
Speaker 9 (11:53):
He was like, both of them probably won't be back
because I think they're both viewing themselves as starters, which
we all would agree absolutely.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
But he's not leading in one way or the other
in that statement.
Speaker 9 (12:03):
So so I'm just like, until I get doing for
from him, I'm leading on what I heard from the
boss man, because once again, that is the top of
the food chain. I mean, how many people want how
many people say, hey, coach Tomys be fired. You can
say it to you blue in the face. Who's the
guy that dictates that? The guy that I'm talking about here, Hey, man,
(12:23):
I hate this man.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
Sell to tell you something. We can say some of
the team all you want, you know what? You don't
get that. You don't get that choice, you know what,
because you don't own it.
Speaker 6 (12:30):
Baby, He do.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
So as much as.
Speaker 9 (12:36):
So It's like as much as I am with you,
Jay Glaz, we know he has a great relationship with
coach thom and they talk about it, man, even with
the Ben stuff, Like we get that, but we're not
talking about coach Tom making a decision. This is coming
from the big man, the one that is the big
dog to coach Tomlin. It ain't too many of them
dudes in Pittsburgh. There's big dog to coach t. But
mister Rudy is that guy. And if that guy said this,
(13:01):
then I'm leaning on that until I get new information
from that guy. Where we get other reports, you know
what I mean, Like we know we can get other reports.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Hey dude, I was gonna hit you with the well
talk to mister r d D.
Speaker 9 (13:11):
I'm just waiting on something because right now, the last
thing I heard of Miss Runey was both of these dudes.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
So I should go.
Speaker 9 (13:19):
Off of Jay or should I go off for ALASKI
shot go off for Steve and they should I go?
Speaker 1 (13:23):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 9 (13:23):
Like, I'm just going off of the dude that I
think makes the most, you know, makes just the follow
because he gonna make the decision in my.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
Eyes, and it is one of those things. We'll know
the decision.
Speaker 9 (13:36):
When we know the decision, it's got to be happening
sooner rather than later because he's gonna start in a month.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
And that's that was kind of the entry Again. I
know it's super Bowl week, so this this is just
a big content week.
Speaker 9 (13:50):
But this is also when a lot of stuff gets
started in terms of the entry level negotiations. When Russ
said what he said, Remember what I came here and
I said to you, right, I said, Yo, he's not lying.
That does happen? People say, oh, no, man, you just
gotta be just making it up. No, that's how it happens.
You know what Step two is super Bowl? Why because
everybody is there.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
The football is at the center of the sports and
then the center of the sports universe all the time,
that specially this week.
Speaker 9 (14:15):
But it's not just that it's at the center of
the sports universe. This is where everybody that matters is gathering.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
They're all there, so now in New Orleans.
Speaker 9 (14:22):
Why does it matter? No, no, no, think about it this way.
How many people write investigative journalists. We call them ops snitches.
People just want to rap v reports. Right they look
for the tea leaves. Let me follow your digital communications
to see when did you talk to this player?
Speaker 1 (14:36):
When did you talk to this coach? Why?
Speaker 9 (14:38):
Just because I want to be the guy to bowler
whistlawy you, so we don't have to worry about that,
because everybody's going to be here so I could just
see you and talk to you in person. I don't
have to worry about the conversation this week. Like that's
the vibe. That's why the comment. Everybody's down there. You
not about to digitally track or record. It's like, no,
we're gonna have this face right here. We might get
(14:59):
a deal, really, you know what I mean, Like at
a foundation of that right now. But at the same time,
we don't have to worry about this getting out. And
that's the other, like the big, big reason why at
these places like this for this type of event. Yeah,
this is the second part of the negotiation. We're gonna
find out more information from that. I'm waiting to hear
when Field's camp is going to put something out. We've
(15:19):
been seeing the rest camp. We're seeing everybody else media
wise trying to throw Oh, I think it's this one.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Oh, I think it's that one.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
Fields camp's been pre Fields and quiet pretty quiet.
Speaker 9 (15:28):
Now, partly due to what is Field's market right now.
I think there's still some questions about that. Is he
at ten to fifteen, does people look at him twenty
to twenty five or do people look at him less
than that? They want to give him a two year deals,
you see what I'm saying, a four year deal, right
because just because we're confident in Pittsburgh to give him
twenty years, I mean twenty million per year and things
like that. Just two years ago when he was in Chicago,
(15:50):
people was over here like, yo, I don't want to
trade for and after six games we're.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
Took a ransom to acquire him on the trade market.
Speaker 9 (15:57):
Right, So those are the type of things and picked up. Okay,
so once again, how much do you really love him?
Speaker 8 (16:06):
Right?
Speaker 1 (16:06):
Don't tell me you, let me show me you love me,
you feel me. Anybody could say it when it's convenient,
which a lot of people do with FILLS.
Speaker 9 (16:12):
A lot of people have shifted to that because they
feel like it's an easier push to promote FILLS than
it is to push for Russ, which is fine if
that's their approach we gotta take. But in still it
doesn't change the facts, and the facts are there's still
a lot of question marks around him. We could be
very optimistic around them, there's sell a lot of question marks.
So that's why when I hear a Jay or anybody
in this past two weeks this speak with such conviction
(16:35):
about yo, it's this guy, It's like, well, dang, I
guess you sleep.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
Women's through it in huh, because it ain't that clear
to me.
Speaker 9 (16:43):
I was watching the tape even today about the Ravens
gay last the Division Ro wild Card game, and even
with this oh so bad off, It's like, huh, Well,
why am I watching Russ getting this thing popping with
Mike Williams and Van Jefferson. I'm watching GP get off.
I'm watching Calvin Oh, but hey, it's all bad because
in his history, if I want to push the narrative
a certain way, I can do that.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
And maybe that's just Jay Glaizer doing his part in this.
Speaker 9 (17:07):
So that's why I look at it like that. And
I'm just like, I like it because it's exciting for us.
It's easy content. So you know, ain't gonna never triplet,
especially heep dropping. These type of things may be pretty please,
pretty please, but from my eyes, I just don't. I
don't see it like that. And it's mainly because mister
Moonie spoke. If mister Reenie never spoke, I think it's
way different. All bets are off. But the owner, the
(17:30):
guy who literally cuts every single person's check. Oh, the
guy who Jay Glazer said he was texting, he cuts
his check.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
Hmmm, wow, make that makes sense.
Speaker 9 (17:42):
The same dude that at some point this off season
people were like, oh, you're gonna bring coach Tomlin back?
Why are you gonna fire that guy that he was texting? Right,
that same dude, And you know, I love coach t
all due respect, but that's I'm just like, yo, I
don't feel like that moves me more than when the
boss Man spoke. But that's just how I see because
the boss Man. But I think we'll see though, we
(18:03):
definitely gonna find out sooner rather than later.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
I'm just a lonely boy looking for data points along
this journey.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
No heck, get man, it's a vie boy right now.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
We will talk to Rob King in about ten minutes.
Some more moving and shaking down in new Lands to
get to as well. It's the Steelers Blitz. You know
where to get at us if you want to get
involved on the Steelers Audio Network.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
This is the Steelers Blitz with Wesley Euler and Arthur
Motes on your twenty four to seven home of the
Black and Gold s.
Speaker 8 (19:21):
N R.
Speaker 4 (19:28):
Blitzing here on our penalties of it blitzing.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
Studio show and as we you know, get closer any
closer to the super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
Tonight. NFL honors of course. Uh oh, you got the
big ones too, man.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
All the players of.
Speaker 4 (19:48):
The year, can of the Year. Can I just.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
Which one do you want to win?
Speaker 6 (19:53):
Quick?
Speaker 4 (19:53):
Little quick, little grievance produce of the year?
Speaker 1 (19:55):
Which you got?
Speaker 4 (19:57):
Could I be like the double champs champ?
Speaker 3 (19:59):
Could I win Producer and Host of the year would
be like Connor McGregor went out a chump chump a
two different weight classes at the same time. Could we
tomorrow Friday is like the Super Bowl Day? What are
you doing for the Big Game? What are you eating
(20:19):
for the big Game? What are your favorite prop bets
for the Big Game? What do you got on the
coin toss? What color is the winning gator? Ay dumped
on the coach gonna be? How long is the national
anthem over under? Who's gonna win? Could we not have
had NFL Awards like Tuesday or Wednesday? But I get it,
they gotta have it later in the week to make
sure everybody's in town for it.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
I get it, But this would have been a really
nice content piece to have on like Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
This so just say you're a me guy, Bro, I'm
a me guy. I just say that.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
There ain't no I in team, but I wish there
was one in Wesley.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
Say yo had a NFL Tuesday.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
You can make this content. Spread this content out for me. Please.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
Tomorrow is gonna be a jam packed show, so much
to do in so little time.
Speaker 4 (21:05):
I am a mean guy and I'm not gonna lie
to you.
Speaker 9 (21:10):
It's all good, bro. That what makes the world beautiful. Diversity. Man,
you got else, everybody got that thing. You don't have
to feel bad about it. If that's who he is.
That's a yo, baby, not wrong with a man.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
Ain't nothing wrong with it.
Speaker 8 (21:22):
Man.
Speaker 9 (21:22):
My dog said yo. For me, I always thinking that
it for be spread because I'm like, bro, seven billion
people in this world. All right, it's just my world,
all six point nine billions the rest of you. I'm
just living in it.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
But even if it is, even if the world is yours,
Tony Montana.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Talk to me. I thought you was going nas right there.
I ain't know he was it.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
It's mine, It's mine, It's mine. Whose world is this
either one? Uh, You're still not.
Speaker 4 (21:53):
The king because Rob King talk to him? Is the
king talk that talk.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
We're gonna have the King in the castle on the
other side last time for our regular season programming. We'll
get up the speed on some of these Steelers notes
and topics of the day in the week with Kinger.
We will obviously get his Super Bowl thoughts and prediction
as well. When we returned on the other side to
close down the first hour, West Schuler Arthur motes Rob
(22:17):
King next, it's a Steelers blitz.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
This is the Steeler's Blitz with Wesley Euler and Arthur
Mots on your twenty four to seven home of the
Black and Gold scan r.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
With a tear drop in my eye. That's a famous
John Denver line. It is riding with the King one
last time. The voice of your Pittsburgh Steelers joining us
on the phone line.
Speaker 4 (23:24):
It is the King in the castle, Rob King. What's up,
king Er? How are we doing?
Speaker 8 (23:28):
I was thinking more sun Bolt tearstained guy, great song
by the group of sun Bolt. Then we get a
little emotional. My last show with you guys, hopefully until
next year. Right, I'm gonna miss you guys.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
I'm a mischel too. That's my thought out there. You're
my favorite. You killed it?
Speaker 3 (23:45):
Oh you look excuse I think we I mean all
we all golf, you know, we all eat food. There's
also there are things we could do in thee there
are things we could do in the off season.
Speaker 4 (23:57):
But but I digress, Kinger.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
We are just you know, moving, shaking, getting ready for
the Super Bowl, getting ready for you know, obviously the
just culmination of a of another NFL season. Where are
you at, like heat check on this Super Bowl if
it was a scale of one to ten year interest level, like,
are you dying for Sunday night to see how this
(24:19):
plays out? A rematch of two years ago the Eagles
their third Super Bowl within a not too long of
a period here the Chiefs looking to be the first
to do the three peat. Or you're like, man, this
is really the matchup I didn't wanted. Where are you
kind of on the excitement scale for Sunday's game?
Speaker 8 (24:39):
Ken, I'm totally pumped. I mean, I mean, I think
it's just I think this is the two best teams.
You know, if Detroit makes it past Washington, you know, Buffalo,
the Chiefs, Detroit, Philadelphia, you can't ask for much more.
I mean, Washington getting in there, you know, gave us
(25:00):
a you know, if you like the underdog, if you're
rooting for Butler to win the NCAA tournament, you know,
for that kind of person. And I usually am by
the way, you know, Washington's welcome to the party. But
I just thought it was I think this is the
matchup that from about the eighty percent mark of the
season on looked like the two best teams. So to me,
(25:24):
that makes it for a great Super Bowl. You know,
I always I always think about this in terms of,
you know, teams get out the hot starts and then
you know, some teams kind of regroup in the middle
of the season, some get hot, some fade. But I
always think that last quarter of the season, you know,
And usually it's not just a team what we saw
with the students, of course, that one year that got
hot and got into the playoffs. Usually it's a team
(25:46):
that's a sort of finishing off what's been a good season,
and their trend at the end of the year says, hey,
I'm the best team in this conference, or I'm the
best team in this league, And those are the teams
that you you know, you see, you want I want
to going at in the Super Bowl. So that's how
I divide things. Hey, you know, we all get excited
about you know, five and one start or whatever, but
(26:06):
how are you playing at the end. Obviously the Steelers
weren't playing well at the end. But I think these
are the two best teams in the NFL. The way
they played down the stretch.
Speaker 9 (26:14):
Well, shoot, I gotta follow up with you then about
this Super Bowl though, because we know one has the
number one Russian attack and one has the number one
ability to stop saying Russian attack. Are we going to
see a Saquan sixty plus yard That's all I need
to know. Am I gonna get the long ball from Saquan?
Or that is that that definiti year?
Speaker 8 (26:33):
Now, Well, I, Arthur, I think you've put your hand
on the absolute key of the game. I think if
I mean, look, Mahomes is gonna do what Mahomes does.
Jalen Hurts is a capable quarterback. But I really think
it comes down to that, if if Saquon Barkley and
that Philadelphia running game can get going, I think they'll
(26:56):
win the game. If the Chiefs can stop and limit
the Eagles effectiveness running the game, running the ball, and
that means, you know, we know with the team like Philadelphia. Okay,
so you held him to seventeen carries for thirty four
yards and then you know Barkley takes one for eighty uh,
and you didn't have a good game.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
You know.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
What it is.
Speaker 8 (27:18):
So I think that's I think you've hit the nail
right on the head. That to me is the entire
key of the game. The Eagles can run the ball
effectively against the Chiefs. I believe they'll win the game.
If the Chiefs shut down the Eagles running game, I
believe the Eagles will win the game or the Chiefs
will win the game.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
Rob King with us here on the Steelers blitz kinger
one of the things and motes could attest to this
that I you know, in the seven years now almost
wrapping up our seventh season of doing.
Speaker 4 (27:48):
A show together for a long time, Crazy.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
His longest tenured teammates series of his entire football career.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
Never had outside of my wife, haven't been around any
long in my life. Bro. All right, So shout out
to you, man, Shout out to you.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
One of the things that we do, and by we,
I just mean fans and media and kind of this
ecosystem of sports talk and sports fandom is trying to
write people's legacies at every corner. When Mahomes was like
twenty four going up against Brady in the Super Bowl,
it was.
Speaker 4 (28:21):
Like, well, could Mahomes ever been greater than Brady? And
he's twenty four years old.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
People were trying to write Lebron James's legacy when he
was twenty five.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
I ever get over the home people.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
Were trying to write Alexandrovitchkin's legacy when he was twenty seven.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
He'll never win the big one, you know, and it
drives me crazy how we do that.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
But now I'm about to do the politician thing and
completely go against what I've done and said in the past,
albeit with a guy who is much closer to the
end of his career than the beginning.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
If any.
Speaker 10 (28:53):
You're your prime man, stop you at least got another
twenty going on.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
At least another twenty.
Speaker 4 (28:58):
Yeah, come on, ganger, just we just completed the first season.
On the podcast, teammates.
Speaker 8 (29:07):
Like this is a preamble to the question here, And
remember I remember Clenn Hurdle saying, you know everything, everything
before the butt doesn't matter. So I think you any
before the butt doesn't matter?
Speaker 4 (29:23):
Question on the Steelers Audio Network.
Speaker 3 (29:27):
Uh, if if any reed, if any Reid does this
three peat thing with his entire body of resume at
this point, I mean legitimate argument for best football coach
of all time.
Speaker 8 (29:42):
Oh, I don't know. Uh, you know, that's that's that's
really really hard to say. You know. Look, man, just
look at Vince Lombardi. Look what he did, right, And
of course Vince you know, passed away when he moved
over to Washington at the end of his career. But
(30:03):
he took a team there that had been a doormat,
you know, turned him into a winning team in his
one season before he passed away. You know, Green Bay
was Nowheersville.
Speaker 6 (30:14):
You know.
Speaker 8 (30:14):
I I think that I love the quote that you know,
bum Phillip said about Don Shula. You know, he can
take you know, his and beat yours, or he can
take yours and be hitting them. I mean that's you know,
that's uh. I think it puts him, as I do
with all of these comparisons. It puts him in the
(30:36):
conversation and and the the inner sanctum. You know, he's
sitting down at the dinner table with Vince Lombardi and
Chuck Knowle and Paul Brown, you know, and Don Shula.
Those guys are having the same meal together, you know
what I mean, and the other coaches who were in
(30:57):
the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (30:59):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (30:59):
And I probably missed one or two. I'm just you know,
going off to those other coaches are there.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
I was like, yeah, I mean I forgot about.
Speaker 8 (31:13):
I'm just completely going off the top of my head.
But those guys are those guys are in the inner sanctum.
You know, they're in the private Even in the Hall
of Fame, they're in the private dining area, you know
what I mean. I think that that's the same way
in any sport. You know, Alex Ovechi, is he one
of the ten greatest? I think he probably is, you know,
is he?
Speaker 3 (31:34):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (31:34):
You know? I mean, you know, to me, it's Mary
and Wayne Gretzky and Bobby or they're sitting at the
heads of the table. Let's put it that way, you know,
and they have the other guys there. But in most sports,
you know, I just I just think that the great
ones would be great in any era, and they you know,
there's always extenuating circumstances. I mean, Vincembardi, you know, took
(31:56):
over I think was a one win team and with
the you know, turned him into a winning season and
two years later they're playing in a championship game. You know.
Paul Brown was a revolutionary coach and everyone said, oh
that lo what he's doing with Cleveland and the All
American Football Conference. What happens when he goes to the NFL,
We'll play what happens? He dominates and and you know
(32:16):
he turned you know, these guys are guys that were
innovative coaches. Bill Walsh was an innovative coach. I don't
know where he sits, but I just think that, you know,
Andy Reid has already he's put himself to me, that's
as high as you can be. You're in you're rubbing
elbows and shoulders with the other great ones. You're in
the you're in the room with all the other great coaches,
(32:37):
and they're all looking at you and Bill Belichick and
the other guys. I think that's as that's as far
as I'm willing to go with with anybody in any sport,
in any comparison.
Speaker 3 (32:47):
Packers were won ten and one the year before Lombardi
got there, the worst, the worst record in franchise is
right last year.
Speaker 8 (32:56):
And then then took the Eagles to the wire. Uh
you know, Chuck bark tackles Jim Taylor, and you know
that's that's how close they came. And then they started
winning winning championships, including the first two Super Bowls.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
No, I like that, right, good stuff?
Speaker 9 (33:15):
All right, all right, So I'm gonna bring it back
to Pittsburgh then, because with all of these legacy talk,
it had me thinking about one player that might have
had his final you know, games, his final opportunity hand
the Black and Gold, and if that is the case,
figure we would talk how we feel about this guy's
all time status amongst the Steelers running backs, specifically Nase Harris.
(33:36):
If this is the last time that we've seen him
out there, where do we feel his overall tenure as
a Steeler rinks amongst these stiller running backs that are
out here. Man, the James Conners of the world obviously
know the l Bells and company like that, But where
do we look at.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
Him as.
Speaker 8 (33:52):
Well?
Speaker 3 (33:53):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (33:54):
You know again, off the top of my head, it's
Franco and then uh, you know, I don't know who's next,
Uh you know, And I think there's a there's a
group of guys that are in there. To me, you know,
if love Bell had played here longer, he would be
Excuse me. I thought he was on track to be
a Hall of Famer.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
The juice.
Speaker 8 (34:14):
I loved his game. What's that?
Speaker 1 (34:16):
And I was saying the juice? You know what I mean?
L Bell ring the bell baby? Come on as what
we do for him?
Speaker 8 (34:20):
Yeah, I thought he was I love the way he ran,
he had you talk about a singular style. That man
had a singular style of playing football. He was a
great one. I think he's you know, his legacy will
be as a solid, productive running back, a workhorse, workman
like running back, a reliable running back. You knew you
(34:42):
were gonna get maximum effort out of him, and you know,
you knew he could do something in the passing game.
You knew he had sure hands. You know, he wasn't
going to drop many passes, he wasn't going to fumble
many balls. Just a good, solid, workmanlike guy. That was.
That was part of teams that you know, uh, we're
able to get into the first out of the playoffs,
(35:02):
but not advance any further than that. And you know,
again right or wrong, a lot of times, you know,
guys are are you know, they're wagging his hitch to
how the team did in general. So that's that probably
limits his stature a little bit. But I just think
I love the way he ran. I love the way
he ran with attitude. You know, he was a you know,
he was a hard worker. You knew you know, you
(35:24):
knew you're always gonna get maximum effort from him. And
and you know he worked hard at it too. You know,
we saw him in practice all the time, working on
that speed working on this speed machine again and again
and again and again at Camp.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
Mister for you know, he did it every year.
Speaker 6 (35:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (35:43):
Yeah, yep. Consistent. That's another good word to use. Consistent,
very consistent performer.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
Yeah. We had a one of our listeners yesterday, Kinger.
We thought that this was well said when we were
discussing Najie Harris and kind of where he's at and
the you know, pecking order of NFL running backs if
you were, and any one of our listeners tweeted and said,
he's not the Derrick Henry Saquon Barkley unicorn, but he
(36:08):
also doesn't grow on trees either. Players with that type
of consistency and reliability at that position. And we both
thought that was that was well said Kinger before we
let you go. Of course, it is the big one
on Sunday. Hey, now, what's your prediction the fifty ninth
rendition of this game?
Speaker 1 (36:26):
Also?
Speaker 8 (36:28):
Wow, that's a great question. I've been going back and
forth all week. I really do think it comes down
to Arthur's question, will they be able to run the ball.
It is just impossible for me to pick against Patrick Mahomes.
I mean, I know all the scores, but I gotta
see it, you know what I mean. So I think
I would go with with Kansas City, and I think
(36:49):
it's going to be a one score game, and I
think that I guess I'll give the slight edge to
Kansas City. I really, frankly don't care. And that's a
wonderful way to go in as a viewer, to have
no dog in the fight and just let's just show
me a great game, because that's that's what I really
want to see. I want to see a great game.
Speaker 1 (37:10):
I like, how you doing that?
Speaker 8 (37:11):
Right there?
Speaker 1 (37:11):
That's what you're the king? That's what the king in
the castle? Everybody? Man?
Speaker 3 (37:16):
Non no?
Speaker 4 (37:18):
By right?
Speaker 3 (37:19):
Wait though, real quick too, What's so you say you
love going to the game, And I agree with you,
just expecting a great game, hoping for a great game,
not really caring about the outcome. What's on the plate?
Then in the in the castle for the king? What's
the what's the Super Bowl snack? What's the go to?
Speaker 8 (37:36):
I think we're gonna go, uh, I think we're gonna
go Buffalo chicken dip.
Speaker 4 (37:40):
Of course.
Speaker 8 (37:41):
I think we're gonna go some chili with some with
some shredded cheese on top. I don't know. I don't
know beyond that where we're gonna go, because, to be
perfectly honest, I'm not preparing it.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
So those the best mentals coming out.
Speaker 8 (37:58):
Yeah, I have I have good sit back mode, get
a catch up on season two of Severns Hey now
prior to the game with my son, and then we're
gonna you know, I'm sure we'll watch a little bit
of the Puppy Bowl and some other stuff that's going on,
so a full day of viewership. So I'm looking forward to.
Speaker 3 (38:18):
Oh man, I love it, Kinger, great stuff today, great
stuff all year. Just thank you so much for the time.
We know you've got a million things going on.
Speaker 9 (38:27):
With us and in the big Boy boof on Sundays
as well. Man, you was doing your thing you got there, man,
salute to you.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
Yes, indeed, yeah, been Steelers dot Com and all the
different stuff you do there, and you know, still being
involved with some of the other teams in town as
well too. You are a busy, sought after man for
a reason, and we really appreciate you giving us your
time here every Thursday throughout the entire year. We looked
forward to it and and just thank you so much.
Speaker 8 (38:54):
Yeah, thank you guys. Thanks for a great season. You
guys making a lot of fun. And let's get out
on the golf course this summer.
Speaker 4 (39:00):
Sounds like a plan.
Speaker 3 (39:02):
There he is the King in the Castle, Rob Kinger
as we hit our what penultimate day of programming here,
great stuff as always, one last time with Rob King.
Speaker 4 (39:14):
We've got to get to a break our number two
of the show.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
On the other side, it's the Steelers Blitz on the
Steelers Audio Network.
