Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ueler and Motes are on the air.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
This is the Steelers Blitz on your twenty four to
seven home of the Black and Gold as skin are
Steelers Nation Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Our number two steal His Nation.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
How are we feeling pretty pretty pretty goodey?

Speaker 1 (00:27):
That is what I love to hear.

Speaker 4 (00:30):
Steelers Blitz on Stealers Nation Radio on the Stealers Audio Network.
Absolutely enjoying this comment that we're having man breaking down
the John new Smith trade interest that was reported none
by none other than Ian Rapperport on West Virginia's Finest
Pat McAfee's show. Why I feel like every time we

(00:54):
got something big, it's always rounding McAfee.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
Like, McFee, listen, is Aaron Rodgers talking miss around to you? Now?

Speaker 4 (01:01):
Is John new Smith is around you? Selfless? So you
even had the lebron on your job. I'm just like, yea,
what's going on?

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Matt A? Pat? You you really?

Speaker 4 (01:07):
You really big boy in us right now? Man, I
leave some for the rest of us small people, alight, jeez.
There's always a West Virginia connection, seriously, man, and I
absolutely love it. I absolutely love it. But for mouth,
I could understand there might be a scenario an alternate

(01:30):
universe out there where it could not be kombay y'all.
This could be a we appreciate you for your services, moth,
but we want to go in a different direction. And
this particular player, this coordinator, has a great history within

(01:51):
relationship with and this.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Is somebody that they just think could do that role better.

Speaker 4 (01:59):
What is your energy if that is the mindset, man,
if they're actually looking at John Newsmith as the replacement
to Pat Fry move versus the tandem, because obviously we
do know that, as you said earlier, we thought the
DK Metcalf trade was DK and George Pickens, but we

(02:20):
clearly saw that that lasted about four weeks and now
it's yeah, DK and the Gang no longer dc GP.
So yeah, man, what is your thoughts man? If you
could potentially see this as the replacement?

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Man, that would surprise me. I mean it would it
would definitely surprise me, especially, like like you said, since
we just saw that, and it would, you know, kind
of feel like another solving one problem to create another,
you know, or trying to fix one problem by creating another.

(02:54):
I don't know. Whoever, However, the right way to label
that would be you get what I'm saying, and you know,
I obviously know that the Steelers want to win. You know,
like that is that is Listen, every team in the
NFL wants to win, but the Steelers want to win
every game they play every year. They're they're not as

(03:16):
much as like we talk about how the next draft
is gonna be a big one in the future, quarterback
and all those things. Make no mistake about it. Down there,
they're talking about how they win games in September, you know,
not not like are we gonna need these draft picks
next year so we can go up and get a quarterback.
They're they're spending time right now figuring out how they're
gonna beat the Ravens and the Bengals and the Browns

(03:38):
and all these other teams that they have to play
this season, and how they can put the best product
on the field here in twenty twenty five. And you know,
I think it's at some point like you've you've got
to have what feels like more than one or two

(03:59):
dynamic offensive threats. And too often, over the last couple
of years, they've gone into Sundays with what has felt
like only one, maybe two dynamic offensive threats on the
field at a time, and you could be as solid
as you want on defense. You know, you can run
the ball pretty well and win the turnover margin most

(04:20):
of the time. But if you're not making big plays
on offense, if you're never getting chunk plays, if you're
never scoring big touchdowns, if you're always happen to have eight, nine, ten, eleven,
twelve play drives down the field every single time, it's
a tough way to make a living. And I think,
certainly down the stretch in that time period without George

(04:41):
Pickens two last year, I think we kind of learned
that lesson a little bit of a hard way at
times last year, and I would I wouldn't want to
see that redone this year. So yeah, if this was
a if it was a replacement type of transaction in
the tight end room, I think I would be pretty surprised.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
No, I like how you broke that down there. I'm
torn between what.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
I really be surprised versus what I just internally just
not be okay with the move because I think that
they're different. I think internally I wouldn't be okay with
the move just because I think that mooth throughout has
been the more consistent player. I'm personally a fan of Mooth.
Obviously I'm biased because I have a personal relationship with

(05:28):
him as well, But I think that that would make
me just not sit well with the movie because I
would think that it was kind of lateral or even
from my perspective, potentially a step back. Right, But there
is another another perspective that isn't as pessimistic as it
pertains to John new Smith.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
And why is that?

Speaker 4 (05:49):
Who is our new offensive coordinator that we hired a
year ago, Arthur Smith?

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Right.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
You talked about John new Smith and the production that
he's had at multiple stops, But he's had production at
multiple stops with who Arthur Smith? Right, same coordinator. Right,
we talked about it. I had said it in our
previous in the first hour, Right, John new Smith and
Arthur Smith probably have a better relationship just due to

(06:17):
the history of those guys spending time together at multiple
stops multiple years, than Arthur Smith probably has with Pat Fryble,
because he can spent one year with the men.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
And it was the introduction.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
You're on top of that where you're not even a
part of the staff in any capacity and just hey,
wake up, you're the guy now and I'm overseeing.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
All of this.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
That is very different for Arthur Smith, who probably started
off talking with the John new back in was that
twenty nineteen, twenty seventeen. Excuse me, time frame or whatever
I want to butcher his his I don't want to
date him too much.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
You know what I'm saying. He might be upsetting bro.
I ain't that.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
Oh yet you keep them aready numbers off from me,
all right, so excuse me this. When he came into
the league, yea, I was right twenty seventeen, I did her.
I was like, yo, when I was playing overlap, yeah, yes,
well whenever there's some overlap players, I'm like, all right now, bro,
that make.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
You feel that still make you feel young?

Speaker 4 (07:18):
No, I feel old because I'm like I played that
lord that I can really remember you coming to the league.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
Seventeen and I was over here like, hey, bro, I'm
about to be about this thing. I'm done.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
I'll see ye I'll say yea. He turns thirty. He
turns thirty at the end of August, right, yeah, right
before the season.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
So for me, man, when I think of the relationship part,
there are a lot of coaches that I mean not
just coaches. You can even attest to this in our
workplace and even in you know, just if we were
to start our own business. Sometimes you value relationship over
a guy that has skill, because if I have the

(07:56):
relationship with this guy.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
I know him better.

Speaker 4 (07:59):
I know highs lows, I know how to motivate, I
know what takes him and also what's gonna make him
shut down. I have better understanding. So if I have
better understanding, I can plan around it. And if I
can plan around it, and I can create a consistent
avenue for me to win every week. Whereas if you know,
you look at that guy who's more skilled, but if

(08:20):
it's not something that you feel like you trust to
that degree. There are multiple examples where we will say, yeah,
that player is better than this player, but this player
fits scheme better, or this player fits with this coordinator
one's better, or with this receiver in this quarterback how
they dinatic, it just works, that's what they do. And

(08:40):
when I think of John new Smith, if you're Arthur Smith,
that could be something where you find a ton of
comfort and then you're looking at well, hey, I never
threw him one hundred and eleven passes. He just got
that many targets last year and you look at how
he was able to produce. So there is a part
that if you're Arthur Smith and this is completely Double's advocate,

(09:02):
even though we're both named Arthur, I have not talked
to him. Okay, I don't know if he truly feels
like this, but there is a scenario where he can
legit me saying to himself, I would much rather have
John new Smith over Pat five move because I know
John k New, I trust John Knue. I've been in
multiple locations with John new and it's always worked out
from a production standpoint. Whereas we know, if you're new

(09:25):
and this isn't a guy that you know, you know
like that, you might not feel that way. We obviously
hear about the tension that was going on behind closed
doors between what he might have or may not have
wonted with the quarterback right between Justin Phills, Russell Wilson,
could you check at the line, two minute drills, etc.

(09:46):
And we're talking about two guys in terms of Phils
and Russ that have played NFL football for multiple years now.
They're not new guys and they've had their own level
of success to different degrees, but even with that, you could.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
Still here where.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
Yeah, it was some tension, there was some bumping of heads,
there was some were hey, we're not all agreed upon this,
regardless of who we think is the better player, more
skilled player. And that's the part once again that makes
me just look at the John new Smith thing is, well,
what if they genuinely are taking the approach of what
you said, Arthur Smith. I want to give you everything

(10:22):
that makes you successful. It doesn't cost me a ton
to get you John new Smith. Heck I might, if
I do it right, might be able to flip what
I'm gonna get for John new Smith and get something
back and extra when I make the move trade because
we gonna push that move is a better player. So
maybe I get that fourth inst out of that fifth,
or maybe it's a fifth instead of a six, you

(10:43):
know what I mean, Like, maybe I get something mat
Maybe it's a pick swap versus a sixth. Ind I
just get John Newe. Maybe it's a all right, I'm
saying you move in a seventh, but now I'm getting
John new and I'm getting a sixth, and I'm getting
Johnny in a fifth or whatever. You know, what I mean, like,
those are some of the things that I look at
just because of what move potentially brings with his youth
as well.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
So that's why, you know.

Speaker 4 (11:04):
Long answer short, I'm just like, I don't know if
I genuinely would be surprised, and especially after seeing some
of the moves we've made over the past seven years.
Right when we got rid of AB, that for me
was my whole Hey, bro, nobody's untouchable, nobody's bulletproof, anybody
can get got right.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
Gave up on AB and eight twenty million dollars on
top of it.

Speaker 4 (11:28):
That is a statement amongst statements amongst statements, because during
that time frame, we know who he was.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
I don't think I also don't think any of us
would have ever thought that there was a chance that
Kenny Pickett would be off the team after a second
year after man first year draft picket quarterback.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
Yeah, how many of us even envisioned George Pickens being
off this team after we made.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
The DK move.

Speaker 4 (11:51):
We're more surprised with GP being off the team this
year than we were with Deontay Johnson getting traded last year.
And think about DJ's trade was crazy because that was
completely out the Blue totally.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
But that's the part where I'm just like, I don't
know if I would be surprised if we did trade
move for Johnny.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
It was just like, I don't know if I would
like it, but I don't know if I.

Speaker 4 (12:14):
Would really be surprised, because yeah, if I could talk
it to make it make sense to myself, I know
they can make it make sense for a lot less,
a lot less. You know.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Here we are, here, we are, but let's take another break.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
Man.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
We'll get back and continue discussing some of this. But
you already know.

Speaker 4 (12:32):
Don't touch that down, Arthur Modes. That's Wes Leola and
this is the Steelers Blitz.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
This Steelers Flits with Wesley and Arthur most on your
twenty four seven Home of the Black and Goldskin.

Speaker 4 (12:57):
Are Arthur Motes, Wesley, you look was blissed up segment
Ladies and ships.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
We're almost there, which is selfishly, I'm gonna take a
pause and just have.

Speaker 4 (13:12):
A little quick cord break because the quicker we finished,
the quicker, I'm getting towards my oldest daughter crossing that
stage officially graduated in high school, and I just don't
know how I feel I'm torn between.

Speaker 5 (13:26):
This is like the most awesome, coolest, just beautiful scenario
because like I've never had a high school graduate before
and to actually be a part of it, Like it's
kind of like, yo, you don't you didn't coach your
first championship.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
You feel me.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
I've been the head coach. We got a championship. Now
it's official, it's done, Like like yeah, I'm there. But
at the same time, you're like, hey, bro, no you're graduating. No, No,
you don't get to retire. You gotta stay here forever.
You don't get the lead, you don't get to test
the mark. What you mean going to free agency? No,
they had his work.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
You gotta stay. Actually, we extended, we extended your track.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
You're they got one's jersey people. You're a one home
key person, all right. You you don't need to ever
have another house key that doesn't come here.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
We just we just got a doe with your agent.
All right, You're gonna be staying for at least eighteen
more years.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
I'm just thoting out though.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
We we we we redid the deal, okay, we got you right,
restructured a lot more money on the table for you,
all right, you're good.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Now, that's funny. I like you.

Speaker 4 (14:27):
But yeah, man, we we are wrapping this thing going up.
Make it to the back end of it. So forgive
my all over the placeness today. Like I said, never
had one of DC here high school graduates before.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
That's a lot of emotions mm hmm.

Speaker 4 (14:43):
But you know, just putting a boat on the John
new Smith conversation. Though, if we had to say, you know,
one way or the other, do you want to do
this move this trade? And if you were going to
do it, tell me how you want to do it
or is it something that you just completely are ready
to walk away from and say, man, I don't really

(15:04):
see the need for it. I don't really have a
big desire for it. Whichever you truly feel. Make that
final argument though, which one would you put it on?

Speaker 3 (15:14):
And man, I would obviously really like to have what
feels like a better grasp on exactly who the Steelers
QB one is going to be in September.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
So well it's Aaron Rodgers, would a possible in a
strong Mason Rudolph but a dark horse candidate and Will
Howard don't count out the playoff starter Skylet Thompson did
I leave anybody else out?

Speaker 1 (15:40):
Oh? Which called wildcard?

Speaker 4 (15:42):
Because if no Aaron Rodgerson, omar sit he wants four quarterbacks,
that's a whole other scenario. You might mess round, have
a Carson Wentz pull up on this, like, well where'd.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
You come from? Bro?

Speaker 3 (15:52):
All right? Enough of that, that'd be too much PTSD
for me.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
Okay, hey, you know what, that's your man, It's full
circle moment. Who would have thought? With my god? Deck
cot So was it? O? Lord? Oh?

Speaker 3 (16:05):
I still like you. I still give you the advantage.

Speaker 4 (16:10):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
I think I have been pretty you know in the
the handful of shows that we've done since George Pickens
has been traded. And I think even with just some
of the comments there in the last segment, like I
want this offense to add another playmaker, and he certainly

(16:33):
fits that criteria. I mean again, nearly nine hundred yards,
eight hundred and eighty something yards, eighty eight receptions, eight touchdowns.
Like imagine if you would have added that to this
Steelers offense last season, you know, I mean they I
want them to add another dynamic offensive playmaker and clearly

(16:54):
as a Pro bowler last year, and he had the
best statistical season a Titan has ever had for of
Miami Dolphins in the entire.

Speaker 4 (17:01):
History of You want to know the craziest part. You
want to the craziest part West his members. You can
make a case with better than pickings last year, Man,
I funny exceptions nine hundred even receiving yards, three touchdowns.
John new Smith right brought up John new Smith eighty

(17:22):
eight receptions, eight hundred and eighty four yards, eight touchdowns.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
He would have been there. He would have been there.
He would have been their number one receiving Wow. But
he would have had their you know, he would have
been like their number one target last year.

Speaker 4 (17:36):
I mean he would have been both had one hundred
both had one hundred plus targets too. GP had one
hundred and three targets on top of it, Man, that
is wowd Now granted where it's not completely apples apples.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
I know some people say, well.

Speaker 4 (17:48):
Shoot, man, you're right, it's not clearly to talk about, Yeah,
the games you missed. Also the quarterback in terms of
how you get the bualt too, a wide receiver of
lot more of a challenge than it is compared to
titands is specific when we're talking about the coordinators that
both of these guys or not even coordinators, just the
offensive minds. Mike McDaniel in comparison or Mike. Yeah, Mike

(18:12):
mcdaniel'scause me in comparison to Arthur Smith specifically talking offense,
we do, at least right now, it does seem that
or Mike has the advantage there.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
Now.

Speaker 4 (18:23):
It could be the personal he's had in Miami, but
we've seen him put up seventy before. M Like, we know,
these Arthur Smith offenses aren't necessarily known.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
For that type of scoring. They're productive, but they ain't
doing like some of that type of stuff. Yeah, so I.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
Like, I I don't want to sit here and say that,
like this is absolutely the guy that I want. It
has to be this guy, but this would this would
fit the profile of the move, that of a move
that I hope the Steelers make here in the next
month or two before we get the training camp. Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
Yeah, so.

Speaker 4 (19:10):
I want him, but it has to be like what
we talked about, I have to have mouth here.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
If it involves mouth not being here, I'm walking away.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
You know with you on that. I'm with you on that.

Speaker 4 (19:23):
But if if I'm keeping mouth, then yes I am
all for John new Smith. I would love to do
it no more than a six round draft pick. And
like I said, Man, I'd rather six round draft pick
and pay him nicer than giving up nicer draft pick
and saving an extra million or two if that makes sense,
Like I don't want it to be, Hey, give up
a fourth but we only got to pay him six million.

(19:45):
Now pay him that six keep that draft pick. That
draft pick we're gonna use is gonna to me have
a better return on the investment.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
Than the two if you will be saving man.

Speaker 4 (19:56):
But that's kind of like I said, my approach to it, man,
because I do feel like, you know, he would help
us out. And the way you broke it down is perfect.
We need production, we need another playmaker. Brought up the
numbers that would have been on part with what GP
did last year. So if we're saying where do you
replace the production from George Pickens, we brought up the
Amari Coopers of the world, the Gabe Davises of the world.

(20:19):
We've talked about, the Christian Kirks of the world. Right,
we can go down this list of guys that we're
all going to come back to the conclusion.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
Of not enough production. Not enough production, not enough production, Ah,
not enough production.

Speaker 4 (20:36):
Or you could, like you said, man, where everybody is
following this same path over and over and over to
try to find that production. Maybe you zig when they
zach and that is something that steals have been known
for us. We said, man, they don't want to keep
up with the Joneses. They try to you know, create
their own waving. This could most definitely be a part
of that. So we will most definitely, like I said, man,

(20:57):
keep monitoring it.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
Man.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
But yeah, definitely was a surprise man when I saw it, like, oh,
we shop it.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
We shop it.

Speaker 4 (21:06):
Hey, it is that time of year, right, I mean
it is that time of year. Now, lastly before we
you know, wrap up this segment because you know, we
got one more with Big Boy to ending. We can't
this end of the day. We gotta have fun. We ended,
all right, But.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
How much does the quarterback impact your answer? Or how many.

Speaker 3 (21:29):
Were gonna ask?

Speaker 1 (21:30):
Yeah, yeah, you know I have to.

Speaker 4 (21:31):
Ask you that, man, our quarterback scenario is it clear enough?
So of course we gotta talk quarterback every show until
we get some clarity.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (21:41):
So if if like if we're having this this conversation
that you know, we're going and playing a game this
weekend with Mason Rudolph type conversation. I think I love
an idea of adding another dynamic tight end because I
think that that really kind of fits Arthur Smith's bread
and butter, and as you and I discussed in the

(22:03):
first hour of the program, I think there's a lot
to be said for a young offensive line and like
you said, a a a kind of middle veteran quarterback
who has two kind of will be type high volume
targets at tight end. If it's a different quarterback, you know,

(22:28):
maybe I don't know one who's always worn green throughout
his career previously on the teams that he's played for.
Let's just say then, maybe I would look at it
and I would say, hey, while I still wouldn't hate
adding another dynamic tight end, maybe I would rather go
add one more dynamic piece on the outside so we

(22:49):
can really stretch this field and take advantage of of
some of what he does best.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
You know that you said that the big it is
a big deal for me the court.

Speaker 3 (22:58):
In fact, now I really thought about the nature, Yes
it is. In fact, I have light bulb quite a
rather important deal as to who is going to be
under center.

Speaker 4 (23:13):
It's not like, yeah, these are two very different approaches
we're taking, and I'm cool with either one, but the
quarterback matters.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
A lot for which approach.

Speaker 4 (23:24):
If I have Aaron Rodgers, I don't want to slow
aer right that. I don't need ussin Boat having to
drive a minivent. I want to see Boat in the
fast car.

Speaker 1 (23:34):
I want to.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
See Michael Phelps come.

Speaker 4 (23:37):
Man, no, man, look man, Aaron Rodgers, you are past
the less minimize it. Let's let's keep it close to
the vest. Less is more. You're not in that conversation.
If we're doing that with you, it feels like we're
holding you back. It feels like the complaints that we
were hearing from Russ at the end of last year,
right where he's saying, hey man, I want to check

(23:59):
these the things. You don't need to be checking these things,
like yo, hey man, we don't need that for Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
All right.

Speaker 4 (24:06):
We don't need a babysitter for Aaron Rodgs. We don't
need somebody to hold Aaron Rodgers hands. We don't need
training wills on a Aaron Rodgers' offense.

Speaker 1 (24:14):
I'm not saying you need full autonomy, but.

Speaker 4 (24:17):
There is a certain level of respect to Rogers professionalism
and production that has warranted that very different conversation, though,
any quarterback that we're going to legitimately talk about being
the starter for the Pittsburgh Stills in twenty twenty five
outside of Aaron Rodgerson, all right, when that name is

(24:38):
no longer part of the conversation, and I'm talking any
of these names that we brought up. The Carson Wentzes
of the world, heck, even the Woods you trade for
Kirk Cousins of the world. Granted he's super expensive, but
you know what type of offense he thrives in. The
one with tight ends, the one wheres put that back
footit the ground, you let it out on time.

Speaker 1 (24:59):
Minnesota, justin Jefferson and Jordan Andison.

Speaker 4 (25:02):
But if you look at their offense stylistically, very similar
to the timing element, it was backfoot hits out of
the play action ball out. It was you had the
best receiver in the world in a heck of a
young robin with him that made that offense shake the
way that it did. But you saw that wasn't exclusive
to Kirk Cousins. Since the reason why Sam Donald just
went in there and had a career year as well.

(25:26):
That's no different than what my man Shannon Han's doing.

Speaker 1 (25:29):
Not in said Fred. If you don't have the Aaron Rodgers,
if you don't.

Speaker 4 (25:33):
Have the Joe Burrows, the Josh Allens, the Lamar Jackson
of the world, this is the approach that is tried
and true. We talk about tight ends being a wide
receivers or a quarterback's best friend. Tight end and running game, baby,
Why because it's less dangerous, all right. You don't have
to be the best in the world to hit your
tight ends and the running backs, all right, that gives

(25:54):
you time to develop. Before Dak Prescott was getting sixty million,
he was throwing to Jason with in the hand of
the ball off the Ezekiel Elliott and on occasion he
would throw the jump ball to Dez Bryant. Do you
know what our office looks like right now?

Speaker 1 (26:09):
M m hmm.

Speaker 3 (26:13):
Interesting.

Speaker 4 (26:15):
So we are going to see what we are going
to see. But uh, let's get ready to take our
final break because I heard it's in the game, but
we're gonna talk about that and I'm not talking about
it in the game. But it's like it's in the game,
all right, so don't touch that down. I'm on the
most best Whatsuler and this is the Steelers Blitz.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
It's the Steelers Blitz with Wesley Euler and Arthur Motes
on your twenty four to seven Home of the Black
and Gold skn.

Speaker 4 (26:52):
R final segment, Ladies and Gents, power Watch or Mega
Watch power Grid still is what, of course, is what
we are talking about on our final segment of to
day show. And as I said in the last brings
leading up to it.

Speaker 1 (27:12):
It's in the game, Wes. We officially have our twenty twenty.

Speaker 4 (27:17):
Six na been Football cover athletes.

Speaker 1 (27:22):
Huh.

Speaker 4 (27:23):
I love anytime we get a chance to talk cover athletes,
especially Madden because, like I said, the nostalgia the kid
in me. I've been playing Madden since the first dropt Heck,
I was playing any of them football games, right, but
when we start.

Speaker 1 (27:39):
Hearing them maddens. As an athlete, there's a couple of
days you wanted to do when you grew up.

Speaker 4 (27:45):
You want to cover sports illustrated, being to cover over weedies, box,
have a Gatorade commercial, be a Nike athlete, and most
definitely be.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
On the cover of Hello, Hello.

Speaker 4 (27:59):
And now we have who will be the twenty twenty
six cover athlete, none other than the bird the play
no no, and sa Quon.

Speaker 1 (28:09):
Ladies are just a Saquon Oh man.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
He's leaping backwards, He's winning super Bowl championships, getting new contracts,
all this player of the years, chumming it up with presidents,
and now to just add another accolade to his insane
three hundred and sixty five days go not the Saquon
Barkley man, not of the Saqua But yeah, man.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
Sorry, I sorry to interrupt you there, good.

Speaker 4 (28:38):
No no, I was gonna say, Ben, talk about it. How'd
you feel about you know, Saquan in this year? He's
generational runners with the kids say generation run.

Speaker 3 (28:45):
I think that's honestly, probably a good way to say it.
I think, you know, we we use a lot of terms,
you know, like loosely too often now, particularly when describing athletes.
You know, everyone is the goat, everyone is a legend.
Like someone can't just be really good, they got to
be a goat or a legend or you know, uh.

Speaker 1 (29:06):
But washed and overrated.

Speaker 4 (29:10):
The year.

Speaker 3 (29:11):
The year that saque had last year was legitimately one
of the best that any running back has ever had
in league history. Like it is legitimately a legendary season,
legitimately one of the goat seasons that any player at
that position has had, And so I think it's it's
it's very deserved, and he is. He's obviously he's crazy

(29:31):
popular as well too, because he's like a human highlight reel.
He's you know, crazy fun to watch play all those
different things. And I just also like seeing It feels
like the cover of Madden is a quarterback or a
wide receiver pretty much every year, and so I like seeing,
you know, I like seeing a running back gets some
love there as well too.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
Let's go, let's go. Yes, I do agree with you.

Speaker 4 (30:00):
It was always refreshing to see a nine quarterback make
his way on to the cover. All right, it's really
really really refreshing. But uh yeah, when we talked, Sakwan,
I mean I was literally trying to think, who, if,
who's had a better singular season at the running back position.
I thought about Adrian Peterson's two thousand, thought about Eric

(30:20):
Dickerson breaking the record, thought about CJ two K Chris
Johnson two thousand, thought about you know, the l Bell
going ridiculous season. None of those even Jamal Lewis going
for two, none of those meet this because literally he
checked off the individual and the team act least at

(30:44):
the same time. He was just like, Yo, I'm nice,
but my team sucks. Or my team's nice, I suck. Right,
It's like, dude, two k as a runner took I
mean realistically could have broke the record. But then from
there you went offense Player of the Year. On top
of the two thousand rushing yards, then you have the

(31:05):
epic postseason win the Super Bowl. You have highlight real
moments in the process of it, i e. The reverse
jump over, the reverse hurdle. We've never seen that. Loved
the picture, by the way, which is that with Lebron's
or I'm like, bro, you you cold with it? You
too cold with it? But then on top of that,

(31:26):
it was like, we all know what the foundation of
this season was due to Hard Knocks shout HBO's Hard
Knocks Wes. We were all rooting for Saquon, even if
we weren't Saquon Fians, largely due to the Hard Knocks.
Being able to see how the Giants handled Saquon and
even where they internally doubted him and then for him

(31:50):
to have that validation at the end of the season
to say that I bet on myself and I chose right,
taking a smaller deal pretty much to go to the
Philadelphia Equals.

Speaker 1 (32:02):
Just like, oh wait you you went to the division
with it too.

Speaker 4 (32:08):
But that's the part where I'm just like, yeah, this
aquad checked that box. I'm like, yeah, that that's that's
the trifecta. That's the It doesn't get any better than
that type of season for my eyes, man.

Speaker 3 (32:19):
Pretty tough to beat. But here's some other good ones
for you, all right that I just hastily researched and
give me, give me something good. Found a pretty good
list here as well too. Uh. Nineteen ninety seven Barry Sanders. Okay,
uh now, is that a Madden in ninety seven?

Speaker 1 (32:40):
No?

Speaker 3 (32:40):
No, no, no no, I'm just talking like the seasons that
they had on the field.

Speaker 4 (32:43):
Oh okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, like best running career running
back seasons ever.

Speaker 3 (32:48):
Yeah, sorry, should have specified. Okay, nineteen ninety seven Barry Sanders.

Speaker 1 (32:53):
I was like, oh he did that in the many
year it was.

Speaker 3 (32:57):
Barry Sanders had twenty fifty three yards on three hundred
and thirty five carries for six point one three yards
per carry, eleven rushing touchdowns, NFL MVP, NFL Offensive Player
of the Year, first Team All Pro, NFL Rushing Title,
fourteen games with one hundred yards or more rushing most

(33:19):
in a single season in NFL history.

Speaker 4 (33:22):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (33:22):
You mentioned the Adrian Peterson twenty twelve season and the look.

Speaker 1 (33:25):
Time by time, my time about I just went to
hit on Barry real quick.

Speaker 4 (33:30):
I'm glad you read off those numbers and we talk
about how, just like crazy, Barry is.

Speaker 3 (33:35):
Point three yards per.

Speaker 4 (33:39):
I was gonna say, though, can we also just just
just let that be a reminder collegiately when we were
talking about askting Jens and we said, who.

Speaker 1 (33:48):
Is he chasing? Very Sarry?

Speaker 4 (33:53):
Yes, And we looked at Barry's numbers down in the
back half. We said, oh, yeah, yeah, he still what
he needed to do about another.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
I'm different, bro Arthur Arthur Nathan Motes, Sir. I know
there have been some insane running backs in the National
Football League, But if i'm if, I'm drafting all the
time team number twenty, silver and blue.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (34:18):
Growing up, man, I was a diehard m Smith family
because I love the Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (34:22):
But Barry is Barry. Everybody was Barry Satters.

Speaker 3 (34:25):
Bro Barry said, yeah, unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (34:29):
We're not about to do that.

Speaker 3 (34:30):
So so that one all time. You mentioned the twenty
twelve Adrian Peterson season, that one's on here as well.
Two nineteen ninety nine, Marshall falk.

Speaker 1 (34:41):
I say, yeah, he cooked. He definitely had a year fourteen.

Speaker 3 (34:45):
What about fourteen hundred rush yards over a thousand receiving yards.

Speaker 4 (34:50):
What about Sean Alexander? I know, didn't he have a
crazy year when he got the MVP? I thought he
had a.

Speaker 3 (34:57):
's see tomlins in two thousand six is on here? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (35:03):
What year am I thinking of?

Speaker 3 (35:04):
John Alexander two thousand and five?

Speaker 1 (35:07):
Oh, cod bo, I know he had a crazy year too, right, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
Yep, let's see here you go. Eighteen hundred rush yards,
twenty seven touchdowns. Let me repeat that real quick.

Speaker 1 (35:19):
Oh my god.

Speaker 3 (35:20):
Eighteen hundred rush yards, twenty seven touchdowns, NFL MVP, Offensive
Player of the Year, Pro Bowler, first Team All Pro rushing.

Speaker 4 (35:30):
Titles, west twifty seven touchdowns.

Speaker 3 (35:35):
Hey, how many of you scoring the Super Bowl against
the Steelers? Oh?

Speaker 1 (35:43):
Buty seven? God?

Speaker 3 (35:46):
Alright? Hold on two more ridiculous ones here real quick.
In two thousand and six, LT Ladanian Tomlinson LT had
over eighteen hundred over eighteen hundred yards rushing, over five
hundred yard cards receiving twenty eight rushing touchdowns, three receiving
touchdowns for thirty one touchdowns. Thirty one touchdowns in a season.

Speaker 1 (36:09):
That's west.

Speaker 4 (36:10):
That's what everybody started to figure rolling Come on, that's
where everybody started.

Speaker 1 (36:15):
Ooh, we all started to figure out. You're like, who
was that?

Speaker 4 (36:19):
Ladadia Thomas, this dude, they keep getting to the old
figure Rollie Like, hey, bro, that's crazy.

Speaker 3 (36:25):
Thirty one touchdowns in a single season. Last one for you,
real quick before we go, uh. Nineteen ninety eight, Terrell Davis,
I'm doing a little wild hot here yet over two
thousand yards.

Speaker 1 (36:40):
That's movement.

Speaker 3 (36:41):
Twenty one rushing touchdowns, League MVP, Offensive Player of the Year,
First Team All Pro rushing title, Super Bowl champion as
well to to to complete the bat.

Speaker 4 (36:52):
Those two years, man, those two years got him in
the Hall. Raise two seeds got him in the Hall.
Bro crazy, You're like, yeah, you're special.

Speaker 1 (37:03):
Just think about that, though.

Speaker 4 (37:05):
I think that sa Quan honestly though, this year if
it wasn't for Tush Push. I think he potentially could
have had those type of numbers though, which is really
crazy to say because sa Kuan went bonkers. But you
just think about how many of those Toush pushes, man,
that Jalen Hurst ended up, you know, getting those touchdowns.
I'm like, right right, you could easily be looking at

(37:26):
sa Quan saying you had twenty twenty two rushing.

Speaker 1 (37:29):
Touchdowns just this season.

Speaker 4 (37:31):
Also, man, So like I said, man, true testment to
those guys though, Man, the true greats when we're talking
running game, and honestly, I mean that's what makes like
I love that right there. I mean, you think about
how giddy we get, man, just thinking about some of
these old school backs that.

Speaker 3 (37:45):
We grew up and we love. We loved it, Okay,
we love this. We love this old school stuff. That
nineteen ninety eight season for Terrell Davis, if he would
have sat out the last five games of the season,
he would still be the Broncos single season rushing record holder.
If you would have sat out the last five games
of the season, he'd still have the Broncos single season.

Speaker 4 (38:05):
Listen, man, listen to real Davis was a whole Bro.
They dropped the new unis. They had the new unis with.

Speaker 1 (38:12):
The with the.

Speaker 4 (38:15):
With the curve, the orange stripes, the Bronco logo which
was modernized, and TD running Mount High salute.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
Bro had all of us over here saluting.

Speaker 4 (38:23):
I'm like, I've never even heard of Denver in my
life growing up, and I'm saluting like I want to
be thirty for them with the little I went the
cool little slide. I want everybody going to highchool, like, ye,
can we make our uniforms have that little stripe? I
want my little stripe like that too.

Speaker 1 (38:37):
Man, we're blacking on. Can we make it like that? Like?
Come on, man, she that's the beauty of the nostalgia. Man,
you gotta love that. You have to love that right there, man.

Speaker 4 (38:50):
But shout out to Madden, though, man, And that's what
Madden does do for us. And you know, shout out
to the Stills Nation Radio for providing us a platform
to be able to talk about some of this stuff.

Speaker 2 (38:59):
Man.

Speaker 4 (38:59):
It has of that nostalgia hit the way that it's
opposed to. But with that being the case, their producer
for today's showed the one and only Westleep valin Ewler.

Speaker 1 (39:09):
Can we please give him some love. Shout out, shout out.

Speaker 3 (39:13):
Thank you very much, mile high salute to each and
every one here. Did it is?

Speaker 2 (39:20):

Speaker 1 (39:21):
