Speaker 1 (00:00):
Keuler and Motes are on the air. This is the
Steeler's Blitz on your twenty four to seven home of
the Black and Gold. Yes, and are Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
I don't know a word number to steal his nation?
How are we filling?
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Fantastic, excited, fired up?
Speaker 2 (00:28):
You know what?
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Anticipatory?
Speaker 2 (00:30):
That's how all right, that's a big word right there, anticipatory.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
I am anticipating a great Fourth of July long weekend
with some family. I am anticipating you and I each
having one more little vacation getaway before we get to
training camp time. And I am obviously anticipating this twenty
twenty five Steelers season, even more so after all of
(00:57):
the action that we had yesterday.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Well, shout out to your big anticipatory word. I'm gonna
use the other big word, knee jerk. And my knee
jerk reaction is I don't take enough vacations. Man, you
inspired me, Okay, just know that you really inspired me
some a vacation, you know what though.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
Okay, So I was real quick, total shiny silver object.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Give me. This is the second hour we can do that.
It's the second hour you're allowed to You could digress
for a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
One of my one of my buddies was ripping on
me for that.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
All right.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
One of my boys was like, oh, man, you you're
taking taking three vacations this summer.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
You know, like I do not vacate enough.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
I said, only in the United States of America. Oh
that the entire year, fifty weeks. You took three weeks
of vacation.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Over you work way too much, only in the way
too much.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
Only in the United States do we go, Wow, you're
taking a lot of vacation. Around the world, they look
at us and they're like, you're only taking three weeks off.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
What's the matter with you? Why?
Speaker 4 (01:52):
What?
Speaker 2 (01:52):
What is wrong with you? Somebody sick? Is this something?
Something wrong? Something, something's happening.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
Grind your grind mine set. I get it all right,
but you can miss me with all that. I'm here
for a long time. I'm here for a good time.
We're all gonna be dust one day.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Listen, what I what I've learned is this, some of
us are superpowers. You know, America as a country, as
a superpower. They want to lead the world's crazy. I
need to be power, right, I'm good, bro. I try
to win to award.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
I'm it's right in the middle, all right.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
I don't want to be super poor, certainly, but I
also don't need to be the ruler and commander of the.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Universe that I want to get the sweet spot, all right.
I don't want to be all the way here with you.
I don't want to go to be there when it's
just great, that sweet spot. I'll be good. Yeah, all
of our.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Family sacrificed for us.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
We we like to work hard to honor their uh
you know, their.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Memory and their sacrifice.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
But we also like to play and relax hard as
well too, because that's what they wanted, wanted a better
future for their ancestors, that we didn't have to bust
our backs like they did.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
I'm telling you that the goal my new Year's resolution,
more holidays, more siestas, more holidays, more siestas. But AnyWho,
let's get back to work. Is it again? We get
back to work?
Speaker 4 (03:16):
That sorry? Sorry, thank you, thank you. I'll get off
my soapbox, thank you.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
I'm just saying we had a big, bombshell mega trade.
It took place. I mean, have you heard of Minka
Fitzpatrick at three time All Pro safety? I know you
know who Jalen rams is the other three time All
Pro corner, and I know you know who the Pro
Bowl tight end, John new Smith is, right, I know
you've heard of these guys getting traded to each other.
And then I'm I know for sure you know about
(03:39):
that draft that to be coming into Pittsburgh next year,
right right here in Pittsburgh, sunny Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Yeah, we
swapped the seventh or fifth round pick, you know what
I mean? We did that. On top of that, it
just adds to all these fifty eleven hundred draft picks
that we currently have here. But here we are, But
here we are. So I do want to ask you.
(04:00):
We talked about what we like about the move. Is
there anything though that kind of rubbed you the wrong
way that you per se don't like about the move?
Any of them? The Jalen Ramsey element of it, the
Minka Fitzpatrick element of it, the John Newsmith element of it. Heck,
even the draft picks element of it.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
H that's a good question. I I don't think so.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
Now, like this is gonna be one of those things
where hindsight's twenty twenty, right, if if the defense feels
like it lost something this year in Minka's absence, if
the offense doesn't take a clear step forward like those
type of things. But right now, I guess the one thing.
The one thing is I guess the age element, Like,
(04:51):
of all three players involved in the trade, you traded
the youngest one, you know, Jalen Ramsey already.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Is so like it is real. But that's just like
it does too though they older man while you trade
a young woman, like like, here's.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
A part it's like the.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
But it is there's some like there's some like everybody
like plays Madden in the roster building element of that,
like you know what I mean, Like, oh, if all
things are equal, just give me the younger guy because
I know he's gonna be around who not necessarily like
some guys. Some guys retire at thirty one thirty two
like you did. Some guys retire. Cam Hayward is still
playing and he's your age.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
So yeah, which is nuts to me. I'm like, yo,
keep it going, though, bro, I.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Think we put too much stock into that, all things considered,
if I could have one guy be two years younger, sure, absolutely.
At the same time, though, I do think we put
a little too much stock into that. But I think
it's fair to to to to point out too that
you traded the youngest player in the trade and got
back to guys who were older. But man, I mean
(05:57):
other than that, until we get to sept Like, I
don't know if I can come up with a lot
of negatives.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
As I looked at it, I said, the big negative
or the big thing that jumped off to me was
the physicality part. Just when you think of who we
have to compete against. I remember Derrik Henry running for
what however manyos he ran for before they took him out,
you know, in that playoff game. Right, I think of
(06:28):
that part and I say, well, who are guys that
bring me closer to making that not happen again? We
would all say Mink Fitzpatrick is higher on that list.
Now with him being gone, I just say, okay, well
how do we combat that? Still feel good about, you know,
us as a defense, but that specific element does make
me a little concerned. But the flip side to that
(06:50):
argument is, well, hey, we should be able to have
more offensive production. Maybe the game flow feels differently, and
now that makes Baltimore not feel as comfortable being able
to just sit and run the ball. The way that
they did very similar to what we saw when we
played against Philadelphia and they hold the ball for was
it the whole fourth quarter, right the whole second halse
(07:11):
You know it was just like, Man, we got to
be able to sustain drives. We have to be able
to score points. And by sustaining and scoring that keeps
our defense off the field, but also keeps those opposing
offenses off the field as well. I know your bulletproof
vest works, but man, instead of me having to show
it works one hundred shots, maybe I could just show
(07:33):
it works first. Fifty shots might work a lot better.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
Even seventy five is great, you know, like it might work.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Hey that one that that oops that got in at
one oh one at ninety, Hey, we don't have to
worry about that, you know. So I think of that
part of it. So even though yeah, physicality wise we
do take a dip, I feel as a whole we
still can make up the difference in other avenues. The
other thing that I look at as a potential negative is,
you know, Minka is a heart and soul guy. I mean,
we've heard the reports man where Minka was one of
(08:00):
the guys that addressed the Deontay Johnson in the locker
room before. Right, We've heard about how Minka has addressed
multiple players, you know, for different things man that he
may or may not have agreed with, And I think
that's a certain level of leadership that comes with familiarity.
Jalen Ramsey is more than capable of being a vocal leader,
which he is. Jayalen Ramsey is more than capable of
(08:20):
being a leader, which he will be. He's a captain
at multiple stops, right league guy, leader of men. But
it is different when you are the new guy hopping
into that leadership role versus your Amena Fitzpatrick who's been
here since the second year of your career and had,
you know, a six year tenure, all in the black
(08:42):
and goal. That comfortability, that level of leadership, that level
of continuity, and not just respect but trust. Everybody respects
Jaalen Ramsey because of what he plays, how he plays
the game, his track record. You respect to him as
soon as he walks in because of that. Same with Rogers.
(09:04):
But the trust that is built upon that is earned
and it can't be fast forwarded. It happens through reps,
it happens through situations. The first time me and you
have a disagreement, how do we communicate with each other
in the situation, we learned a lot about each other,
right then the first time we have a disagreement, how
we when we first see each other following that disagreement,
(09:27):
Does that feel like? What does that look like? Yeah,
I can know you're a professionally, yes you can non professional. Yes,
we can have respect for each other. But the trust
in knowing that, hey, this guy is going to operate
this way regardless of these variables. We can't get that
without going through that together. And that's the part that
we lose with Mika being gone and Jalen coming in here.
(09:51):
But I do, as a whole feel like still the
net positive because you're bringing in champions, super Bowl champions,
and just from my personal experience around those guys, they
do operate differently. Anybody that's been close enough to chase it,
close enough to touch it, close enough to where you
can sniff it. I was sniffing it at one point, man,
(10:11):
sniff that can. It smelled real nice, all right, But
you just it's a certain level of urgency that comes
with that. And I just think that you know, when
you're bringing that in here. That has to count for
something that has to be able to offset the Minka impact.
But outside of that, I don't look at anything else
(10:33):
as a negative. I'm like, man, you upgraded offensively. You
upgraded your secondary by bringing in Instead of it being
a solo animal that only plays here, I got a
Swiss army animal. You know what I mean? Like, yeah,
because I can use him. And I believe it was
Mark Cobal. It also tweeted out you know that the
Steelers do intend to use him or visualize using him
(10:55):
as an outside corner, a slot corner, and a safety,
and they view John new Smith as a slot tight
end h back. So you got utility pieces people that
we can't schematically say they took him out the game.
We pointed Amika, like I said, over the past couple
of years, and we say, well, he's a box safety,
(11:16):
so that takes him out the game, or you put
him in the middle of field, it takes about the game.
All right, Cool, Well, if you don't want to keep
having that be your Achilles Hill, right, we'll find the alternative.
To me, these are the alternatives.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
Can't take them out of the game.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
You can't take you want wherever you want. You can't
hide him. You can't run away from Hecky even blitzes, right,
because that used to be my question about like when
he was, you know, starting to play different spots, man,
was the tackle, Like what's the physicality look like? But
he's shown he's not afraid to hit you. He will
also do that, So I think that those are all
going to be, like I said that positives with this game, man.
(11:56):
I mean, it's a good right, I think is a
good trade. But you know, we gotta do what you know,
we gotta do because we said in America we want
to be superpowers. That means somebody has to be a winner.
Somebody has to be a loser, all right, So we're
gonna take a break. When we come back, we gotta
discuss who was the winner of this trade. Okay, Steelers,
what's the freaking dolphense? But either way, don't you touch
(12:19):
that down, all right, because I'm mark the most nestless
to you if this is the Steelers boots.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
This is the Steelers flitz with Wesley Huler and Arthur
Mose on your twenty four seven Home of the Black
and Gold, asking.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
R all right, an ultimate segment of today's show, and
of course it says the Steelers bliss. As we've been
discussing the trade, the mega trade heard around the NFL world.
Three time All Pro safe the mink of Fitzpatrick traded
(13:03):
back to his old stumping grounds, his place of origin,
NFL wise, the Miami Dolphins four Jaylen Ramsey, three time
All Pro corner and Pro Bowl tight end John new Smith.
And then we did a little swoopy swap our seventh
throng draft pick for their fifth round draft pick. Gottle
of it. But with that being the case, though we're competitive,
(13:26):
we keep scoring winning matters. And I once heard a
wise philosopher once tell me, if you're not first, your.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Last, if you ain't first your last.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
You know, I think we should all live by that mantra.
So what that being the case, who would you say
won the trade? Man? It was a winner and there
was losers. Who were the winners of this trade either side? Right?
Any winners? And who were the losers in this trade?
Speaker 4 (14:00):
Well, in my personal record book, the biggest winners were
you and I Because this gave us something to talk
about for the rest of the slow content calendar, and
we are forever grateful in that regard.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
Yeah, I.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
Man so I think the John new Smith and uh
Jalen Ramsey are without a doubt winners because they got
what they wanted. I mean, I I both of those
guys wanted some financial uh ramifications, some financial things done,
and I don't know if it's fair to say that
(14:41):
they wanted out of Miami. But I also don't think
that they were overly attached to the situation currently with
the Dolphins. You know, Ramsey was excused from any of
the kind of OTAs in mini camp stuff, and we
all know that there's been some you know, some some
some public conversation with both as it relates to their contracts.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
I don't know, like I think Mega Fitzpatrick might be
a loser in this, although I tell you what I
think anybody who's making that kind of money and living
in Miami, I'm not calling them a loser. Like if
I was making Mica money, Miami would be on the
short list of places in the world that I would
enjoy living.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
But I also don't think.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
That you can argue that Minca's going to a franchise
that's a little bit of a step back from what
the Steelers are right now and certainly a significant step.
I mean, it's a franchise that hasn't won a division
title or a playoff game.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
In a long long time.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
I mean, yeah, the.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
Way Dolphins fans talk about their franchise and Dolphins media
is very similar to how Pirates fans and Pirates media
talk about the Pittsburgh Pirates franchise and kind of the
way that it's been run in the long gap of
any real significant sixces s. I think Tarrell Austin and
uh and Arthur Smith are both big winners in this.
(16:08):
I think that allows them to each kind of mold
their units more in the way that they want to
play and they want to attack. Those are Those are
some quick winners and losers off the top of my head,
and I've listed more on the Steelers side than than
on the Dolphins side.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
Certainly.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
Yeah, I think whoever, whether it's Tua or whoever ends
up being the Miami Dolphins quarterback, lost out in this.
I mean you just you lose. You lose a piece
of of your offense with nothing in return. I think
we can like there's a lot of like and like
similarities between Menca and Jalen Ramsey, and you can make
a lot of good faith arguments on who's the better
player right now, who you would rather have on either side.
(16:50):
But then when you throw in John hus Smith on
that as well too, Like, yeah, if I'm on the
Miami Dolphins offensive side of the personnel, I feel like
I lost today, Like we just lost to one of
our best weapons and got nothing back in return.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
But so yeah, so those are kind of I think,
oh uh, people.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
Who sell jerseys Steelers jerseys in western Pennsylvania are definitely winners, big, big,
big up because I think a lot of people are
gonna wanna want, gonna wanna want Jalen Ramsey jerseys. People
will want John new Smith jerseys, but I think a
lot of people are gonna wanna want Jalen Ramsey jerseys.
So those are some some some big winners there as well.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Percent Yeah, I would definitely say the Dolphins finance department one. Yeah, yeah,
their bottoms would definitely. I would definitely say they won
there because uh, yeah, they're not paying Jalen Ramsey. They
gotta pay him anymore town right now, who's current currently
(17:51):
in season. They won the bottom line, all right, They
they for sure what that they found a way to to,
you know, get clear the books a little bit, you know,
get good good up ticking Jersey stells. Hey, Meg, you
gotta get that new inker now, you nigger were a
different number this time too, right, I gotta get that
new InKo. Now, come on, I do that, you know,
So I do like that for them, man, But I
(18:17):
wish we could know more about the communication behind the scenes. Yeah, totally, totally,
and specifically the Dolphins because if you remember, he did
not want to be there after his first year you're
in the league. He was very much disgruntled as a
(18:37):
first round draft pick in that same beautiful place of
Miami with all the money. You still he was the
first round draft. He wasn't like he was ever broke
the living in Miami. He was never broke, never broke
living out there. Now.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
Different coaching staff now though correct.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
Brian Flores was the head guy down there who also
came to Pittsburgh just a year after he did, right
two years after, and was also here with him. Ownership
is the same. Management was different. They had Tannemball, who
obviously does you know, uh was it nfo espn Uh.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
He's like, yeah, he's in that Contributors.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Yeah, yeah, but he was the GM down there when
they drafted Menka Fitzpatrick along with one of our good guys,
Terrence Garvin. I go ears yep. But the then that
he had the most issue with, specifically down there, was
how they were using him. He talked about, you know,
they were using them, you know, multiple places. He wasn't
really feeling that. This is very different though, even regime wise,
(19:39):
when you're talking Mike McDaniel from Bland floor, from Brian Flores,
from coach Tomlin, mm hmm, I'm just like, did he
know ahead of time that this is where he was
going or is this the I wanted to get traded
or the trade happened And I'm just finding out that
you sent me back to this place and these are
(20:01):
the guys you sent to me too. Because if that
is the case, and I would say he definitely is
a loser in this part of it, because I could
only imagine when I left from Buffalo while that regime
was there, and even when they switched it while I
was playing that had to go back, I'd have been
feeling some type of way the whole time. Man. It's
just like yep, yeah, man. So I just I don't
(20:22):
know what that communication was, like, man, but that's fair.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
It's a fair point.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
He should be getting a new contract down there that's
gonna give him a nice uptick and pay. So you say, man,
give me the millions to make my make me feel better,
and hopefully they should be able to accommodate that. But
I feel like for him, he's such a competitor, it's
a big loss for him, man, because that fight is
a different fight in Miami than what you're talking about
(20:48):
in the Black and Go. Still his Nation Radio, Still
his Nation Radio, because we care you know, there's no
Dolphins Nation Radio.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
Okay, I mean there's no doubt, there's there's no doubt
the sports culture in western Pennsylvania and amongst Steeler Nation
is way different than it is on South Beach. Mm hm.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
So like when I think of that as way, when
I think of that, I'm like, man, this is that's
going to be a challenge, man. And I think that
was partly why Minka also wasn't as happy the first
go around when he left from Alabama. You going from
you're competing for championships to Miami where they're talking about
(21:30):
it you tanking or not you getting beat by seventy
at one point. Remember that was the game where Lamar
Jackson and them boys went crazy on the Dolphins down there.
Don't forget that. Yeah, it's like, no, he's been.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
I mean he's been in great football coach.
Speaker 4 (21:43):
I mean those years at Alabama and then with the Steelers, like,
he's been places where they where football culture is everything,
Like it's you're a we're.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
Competing for championships. We've man, I've had good people that
I know have played in that organization. Man, And it
is different. It doesn't have that type like you told
me you were.
Speaker 4 (22:03):
Like when we were in Buffalo, if we would gone
eight and eight, we would have been we would have
been celebrating.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
They heck, we would have went eight and eight. My
eyear in Arizona with Steve Wooks would have been celebrated.
I say it, man, it's just is different culturally, like
and you feel it. And if you haven't had the
opportunity to play in other places like you, you're a
little naive to when you've been around You're like, bro,
not every operas like it still is everybody else that urgency. Man,
Some people are are fine with when in seven games
(22:28):
a year and selling jerseys, bro sell jerseys, sell tickets
some that's all they want to do.
Speaker 4 (22:34):
Ownerships and management make decisions to sell jerseys and tickets.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
And literally that is their whole mindset. Yes, I do
not care about the winner loss. I care about the
business part of it.
Speaker 4 (22:48):
Yes, dude, let's draft because he's going to bring a
lot of attention and eyeballs and ticket sales and excitement
and yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
And that's kind of with you know a little bit
of the underlying talk. The BAMI is more of that
than what we do here. I know, Minka, man how
much he cares about this game. Man, Like I said that,
that part does suck because for Jalen and John new
you got exactly what you wanted, if not more. You
(23:17):
both wanted new deals. You got new deals. You both
wanted to get out. Well, Jayalen specifical one to get out,
you get to exactly. You know, you're with another high
end championship pedigree organization, with a high end championship pedigree coach.
Like you feel good about your situation. You got other
guys around you where you don't feel like you have
to be the only playmker on defense. You gotta TJ.
(23:38):
What you gotta cam here? Where you got a JPJ
and a Darius lay out here? You got pieces? It's
like where's your loss, John new Smith? Not only do
you get the big upgrade their losses in weather.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
But that's all right.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Only you gotta remember this, man. Only certain people want
to live in Florida.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
Or was raised Sylvania?
Speaker 2 (24:01):
Like, bro, yeah, you just Benesse everybody right, Not everybody
just wants to live in like Miami Rode, I get it.
But he might actually enjoy the Four Seasons. Bro, he
might actually enjoy here. Bro.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
But it's like, man, nobody, don't they just a lot
of themselves?
Speaker 2 (24:18):
We just lot.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
We just a lot of ourselves about that. Nobody actually
enjoys the Four seasons.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
It's a lot. Look look, man, your West Virginia is
coming out. You know you can't be happy all your
West Virginia want to I used to love the Four Seasons.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
It's just cold.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
Your West Virginia. Your West Virginia is coming out.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
Man.
Speaker 2 (24:39):
It's okay to be happy West. It's okay. You could
actually enjoy the place you live in. It's all right,
and it's always had to be it ain't that though, No, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 4 (24:48):
Is this I I do love the place that I
live at I do, But I tell you what I
thought I would live in Pennsylvania my entire life. But
now you know, twenty years from now somewhere in the
Carolinas or Georgia doesn't sound too bad.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
Oh good, oh good? He look shout out to the winners, though,
all right, shout out to the winners. And who knows,
man steelsn't enough? Maybe that will expedite both of us
get into what we want. Man a. So I like it.
I like it. But let's take a final break real quick, man,
we get back. We'll put a bow on this here.
Discussion about the mega trade heard all around the NFL.
(25:30):
But don't touch that down. I'm want the most. That's
Wes Steeler and this is the Steelers Blitz.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
Is the Steelers Blitz with Wesley Euler and Arthur Motes
on your twenty four to seven Home of the Black
and Gold Skin r.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
My No segment of today's show, WHOA Steels? Of course
we are on steal This Nation Radio or the Stealers
Audio Network, And usually this is the part of the show.
Why I say man, it's time for your tweets, your thoughts,
your comments that concerned bet waiting to get him in.
There's on the Twitter dot com what they call them
x these days at the Body fifty two Dubbud and
(26:20):
at Wesleyler the Good Hair. But today it's a little
bit different because of how the Mega trade has impacted
and shaken up the NFL world. So for all of
the power grid the mega watch that are out there
listen and tapped in with us, or even the YouTube
crowd that are watching us right now, make sure you
like it and subscribing on you know this content, but
(26:43):
make sure you do tweet us, let us know how
you feel about this trade. Man. Do you like it?
What do you like about it? Don't you like it?
What do you not like about it? But make sure
you tweet us on that man. I And whenever we
do get back, you know from our various travels and
things like that, we will spend some time in and
catch up on you or true feelings. All right, so
we do want to make sure that we communicate that.
(27:03):
But uh, what I want to do though, to wrap
up today's show, was this man, Remember I told you
about that that that hat right. I know you got
the West Virginia hard hat in the back. It looks beautiful.
You know what I mean? Is that like your color
rush version? Right? What would I call that one rush?
The rush rush? Yeah? Yeah, I think it's pretty dope. Man.
But but I don't want you to wear that hat
right now, Okay, I want you to find that that
(27:24):
black and goal one it says Steelers genis.
Speaker 3 (27:27):
I know this is great for the radio show.
Speaker 4 (27:31):
This is this is my nineteen ninety five AFC Champions
Hats hat on the other side of this desk.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
So I'll put that on for you, all right, Percy.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
Perfect general manager cap and love the general manager face
as well too. All right. So with that being the case, though,
mister general manager wes Uler, what would you have done
differently if anything in this move? And I'm talking players
or even picks, would you have changed anything up if
(28:04):
you were the general manager?
Speaker 4 (28:08):
Well, in a perfect world, okay, and this is I'm
trying to give you something juicy, something good to talk
about here too. Let me just preface this. In a
perfect world, I think you could make an argument that
instead of a playmaking tight end, you would have rather
had one of Miami's playmaking wide receivers right, which they've
got a very talented pair of those.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
Remember you're the GM now, But also.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
That doesn't account for your offensive coordinator and his saying this.
That doesn't account for those two wide receivers. Even though
the tight end just got a pay bump, those two
wide receivers are still much more expensive than that than
that tight end and would have probably not just more
expensive in terms of their contracts and financially, but might
have cost some different capital to acquire as well too.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
So I you know, I.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
Think again, like you could you could have a good
faith conversation about like, hey, maybe you could have gotten
one of the you know, uh Tyreek or Jalen Waddle,
and then you'd have the true kind of two talented
wide receivers. Was still having Pat Fryermouth there as a
tight end in Darnell.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
And see, I like you. You're so polished. You trying
to give me that that that that I'm just trying
to get it. I'm a frame for you a little bet, okay,
because you are the GM. I don't want the perfect scenario.
I want your SCENARIOO you made the phone call or
would you have not made the phone call at all.
Would you have said, I don't care about adding a
(29:38):
Jalen or a John new I want Minka and this
is all I care about. Would you have not even
picked up the phone.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
No, I would have definitely picked up the phone phone.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Yeah, so Minka was already available in your eyes.
Speaker 4 (29:54):
In my eyes, I think anybody except for like what
we had for a long time in Ben Roethlis part or,
I will at least listen to a phone call at
all times.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
So you're basically saying everybody on the roster then correct.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
Right now, I would say, yeah, everyone on the roster,
I would listen to a.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
Phone Okay, okay, okay, I mean, like in.
Speaker 4 (30:11):
Theory, I want to say not on Cam Heyward because
he's close to the end of this thing, and I
don't I don't want on a plate. You said, as
I'm interested in giving you a couple of first round
picks for Cam Hayward. I'm going to listen to what
they have to say, unless and unless I've got Josh
Allen or Patrick Mahomes or you know what I mean,
Like I'm I will absolutely listen to to anybody.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
Now.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
Also, if if TJ was twenty seven years old.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
I might have TJ in that in that in that
bracket right now, but right now I would I would
I would listen to to calls about anybody so and
and look like this is not While it was something
that felt like it came out of nowhere, like a
week ago, Adam Schefter was talking about a lot of
(31:00):
people were talking about Steelers having interest in Jalen Ramsey.
A month ago, a lot of people nationally and locally
were talking about the Steelers in John new Smith. So
but it almost was kind of like the Aaron Rodgers thing,
where it was like, so it felt like, Okay, well
that's not gonna happen, even though we all felt like
(31:20):
but you get what I'm saying, same church, different pew.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
Like nobody believed Jalen Ramsey was gonna happen because DK
metcalf Everybody's like, yo, we got Dk Metcalfe, You're not
going to get Jalen because specifically, we didn't trade a
player to get DK. We traded Hicks and then gave
him cash. That part was very much why they communicated. Wow, man,
nobody worried about Jalen. I don't think we would have
(31:44):
felt like that if we knew players were on the table, though,
because I think there was an assumption amongst still a
nation that TJ Y, Cam Hayward, Minka Fitzpatrick were untouchables.
You don't even talk about those those guys in it
unless you're seeing multiple first rounds, right, That's what we've
(32:05):
kind of set that stage there, or set that that barhead.
But I think this changed that dynamic a little bit.
When you throw in the Jalen Ramsey John new Smith
part is like, dang, did that really make a menca?
I guess it does make them expendable, you know what
I mean? But from your eyes, that's always trying to
feel like man or those players enough to you that
(32:27):
would have made Mika all right, Yeah, we can talk
about that now, I think or is that still not
enough to you?
Speaker 4 (32:33):
No?
Speaker 3 (32:33):
I think it. I think it. I think it absolutely is.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
And that's a good point by you too, because I
think a lot of the conversation a week or two
ago around Jalen Ramsey was he could be a Steeler,
but the Dolphins that have to release him first, you know,
it have to be a Joe.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
We can't go get him that way.
Speaker 4 (32:48):
Yeah, we're not going to give what a cost up
to to to trade for him and to to you know,
to to redo his contractor or take on his contract
at the same time as well. So yeah, no, I
think that's I think that's very fair. But I do,
like I.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
As the dam did you give up too much for it?
Speaker 3 (33:08):
I don't think so. I don't think so.
Speaker 4 (33:11):
And again, once the season plays out, like it's why
it's fun now to speculate, but I I do. One
of the oldest kind of cliches that you hear a
lot in sports conversations is like kind of what you
and I just did a little bit in the previous
uh segment. There's always every trade as a winner and
a loser. Always always, like I do think sometimes though
(33:33):
it works out pretty well for both parties, like the
Matthew Stafford Jared Goff trade has worked out pretty well
for for for both parties in Detroit and LA like
the ones gotten a championship, the other has been knocking
on the door and probably will continue to do so here.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
So right now it sounds like only Las won then, But.
Speaker 4 (33:54):
Like I, I think for both teams that this can
make sense because even from a Dolphins standpoint, like if
you were looking at it as we're probably not gonna
have either of these guys this year. Anyway, you could
say we got Mega Fitzpatrick, who's twenty eight years old.
Worst case scenario, he's a valuable piece for us to have.
We could always move him again. You know, I I
(34:14):
I think this is the rare like you look at it,
and I don't think either side fleeced the other side.
But I I absolutely if if if you and I
would have come on the show today, Mozie and for
one of these segments, you would have proposed to me,
we'll trade Mega Fitzpatrick, we will receive, will trade Mega
Fitzpatrick in a in a in a day three pick,
(34:35):
we'll receive. Uh.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
Jalen Ring.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
Said no, we're saying yes. Now. We all know we
would have said no, no, and no, yeah, absolutely not man,
And like we know the revision is sister, because I'm
gonna say the same thing. Yeah today. Of course I
would have said, yea, I'm gonna spit it to make
it make sense. We both know for effect we'd have
been like, that'll sounds all right. I'm cool on that one, man,
(35:02):
I'm good. We already got Pat fribble. Why do I
need Johnny Smith here?
Speaker 3 (35:05):
What about Washington?
Speaker 2 (35:07):
We wouldn't have said that we were no for in fact,
would have said that that's why people are even reacting
right now, how we reacted like dag Man, all right,
maybe I'm sorry, man, Yeah, that's all that is, man,
But we would not have been cool with this trade.
That we wouldn't have been. But because I also think
of the other part, where the age part, where they're
gonna say, man, Minka was the younger guy in this day, right,
(35:29):
but if there was internally man issues, you know, if
there was behind the same stuff that none of us
are privy too, right, But or maybe they just felt like, man,
this might have warrant run its course. We've tried, you know,
six years of the Minka type approach, man, This Troy
(35:51):
Polamalu esque, this Ed Reed esque, this Wesley Juli's favorite
safety Brian Dawkins esque. You know, we've tried this approach.
But man, we think we want to shift back to
more of the premiere corner vibe and past rushers versus
that middle fiel, you know, elite safety. And if that
(36:13):
is the case, then yeah, I think that that would
have promoted and made this make a lot more sense
even you know, without us knowing the different little details
of okay, a little extra money here, extra money there.
It's like we'd just been like, yeah, man, if we
know that, all right, we're trying to shift from that
model to like even brought up earlier, Manda Man, then yeah,
(36:36):
this is what you gotta do. That's what you gotta do. Yeah.
It just sucks as making though, man sucks as.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
Making it does.
Speaker 4 (36:43):
And you know, again he like, I'll give him this
like from a from a culture standpoint, from a tone
setting standpoint, like he's.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
The type of guys that he's obsessed with football.
Speaker 4 (36:54):
Like that is one thing that everybody who's around the
team will agree on, is that like this dude eats
breeze and sleeps football. That's all he wants to do
is take care of his body, get better, watch film,
like you know, and so yeah, you you always want
guys like like all these guys love football. You don't
(37:14):
make it to this point without loving football. But to
do what Mink has done in his career, you got
to really love football and you got to really dedicate yourself.
And and there is no doubt that in his six
years in Pittsburgh, he was one of the most dedicated
at that you know, at the top of that list
every single year for guys that really put in the
extra time, the extra work, the extra effort. And when
that guy is also one of your best players, that's
(37:36):
like that perfect blend that that you know that you
and I talk about all the time. You you love
it when your best players are you know, Antonio Brown
also your hardest working players, when it's Sidney Crosby, your
best player is your hardest working player. You know, like
that's that's always a good thing to have around the organization.
But I think, as you kind of laid out in
(37:56):
the first hour, I think overall a net pop. We
can revisit this, and I'm sure this will be something
you and I will have to do in March or April,
you know where we're looking for content next year. We
can revisit this and like, all right, you know, after
a year, who's the winner, who's a loser. How's it
look now? But right now it does feel like a
(38:16):
net But there's there's positives, there's negatives, but it does
feel like a net gain for the for the Steelers.
Speaker 2 (38:22):
I'm just laughing. Just when you thought the George Pickings
trade was the biggest thing, Just when you thought signing
Aaron Rodger was the biggest thing. Yes, when you throw
it traded for DK Metcalf was the big lower.
Speaker 4 (38:34):
Hey, we're gonna have some contract conversations about a former
defensive Player of the Year that could get pretty spicy.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
So don't go anywhere.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
Just like that. This is crazy, man, This is crazy.
Heck of a show today, though, Man, heck of a
show today. Man. We are going to go ahead wrap
this world on it up. Man. But uh yeah, always
got to give a big shout out to my producer, man,
mister Wesley Valen. Youler day, like the day who you
did your thing, baby, shout out, shout out.
Speaker 3 (39:02):
Motes is gonna laugh because he knows.
Speaker 4 (39:04):
I say this every year at this time, kind of
like if you go to church on Christmas or you
go to church on Easter. You know the general gist
that's coming. We do that same kind of thing here
a couple times a year. One of those is always
the last show before July fourth. I tell everybody, let's
let's all meet up back here for our next show.
With as many fingers as.
Speaker 3 (39:23):
We have right now.
Speaker 4 (39:24):
All right, everybody, be safe, be smart, be responsible, and happy,
Happy holiday weekend everybody out there there.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
It is dead. It is dead. It is also power grit,
mega watts. You know, we love y'all. We appreciate the
heck out of each end, every one of yan's before
it's tapping into the show. Like you said, without y'all,
there is no us. And then, last, but certainly not least,
can I talk about Potner Crime? Can I talk about
that one and only? Mister Wesley Valin?
Speaker 3 (39:54):
You go ears, love it, love it.
Speaker 2 (40:01):
Well, that will conclude today's show, but you already know
where to find us on your twenty four to seven
home of the Black and the Gold.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
That's Steelers Nation Radio on the Steelers Audio Network.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
Mm hmm hmm
