Speaker 1 (00:00):
Kueler and Motes are on the air. This is the
Steelers Blitz on your twenty four to seven home of
the Black and Gold Lessen our Steelers Nation Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Good afternoon, Steelers Nation. How we do it is filling springing?

Speaker 3 (00:27):
You know what, Mozi, since you and I started this
episode edition show of the Steelers Blitz about an hour ago,
I do think the sunshine is a little more clear
than it was. And you know, maybe that's just us.
You see it brightening up the area. Our number two here,
same drill is our number one. You know where to

(00:48):
get at us if you want to get involved, we
will get to a couple of your tweets before we
get up out of here. And obviously this upcoming discussion
is one of those listen, we want your involvement on
every discussion. But there are some times that Arthur Molts
and I are just talking to each other, and then
there's other times that we really want to open this
thing up and have it be a group activity. This

(01:09):
is one of those conversations today. And depending on when
you're listening to this, you know it is Thursday, May
twenty ninth, some of you might be catching this in
the podcast twenty four forty eight hours or whatever or
so from now over the weekend maybe something. But today,
on Thursday, the Steelers opened up their nominations for the

(01:30):
Hall of Honor twenty twenty five class. For those not familiar,
that is the Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Honor, their own
enshrinement that is held at the Steelers you know museum
kind of kept has its home place at the Steelers Museum,
which Motes and I have said many times at Akershure

(01:51):
Stadium is a must for any Steelers fan, absolutely, and
part of a big part of that there is every
day decade of Steelers football, which is closing in on
one hundred years here before too much longer is represented
in that wonderful museum. But of course a big part

(02:11):
of it is the Steelers Hall of.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Honor, those who have been enshrined in there.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
The guys of legendary coaches, players, contributors, everyone from Bill
Nunn and Chuck no to mean Joe Green to tuns
Jilkin Uh you know, a a admroncope, a a wide,
wide spanning hall of honor that is obviously, I think

(02:38):
one of the greatest honors, if not maybe the greatest
honor that the Pittsburgh Steelers can give to former slash
current members of the organization. Hall of Fame nominations now
Opensteelers dot Com anywhere on social media.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
They posted about it as well too.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
You could find a direct link there on on you know, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, wherever.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
All those different TikTok all those different things that you
kids be doing nowadays too. I'm sure you know how
you kids do it. But of course Steelers.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Dot Com as always is that where those That's where
those social media links will take you. Quick reminder last
year's twenty twenty four class Dick Lebo, Casey Hampton, Fast,
Willie Parker, Jason Gilden. A. I mean, they're all great classes,
all great classes, but that's a that's a.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Pretty cool one. You know.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Most you were joking about watching Super Bowl forty just
in one of our last couple of breaks, and I
was like, did THEA. You were like, oh, they got
super Bowl forty on the NFL network, And I was like,
did Fast Willy happen yet?

Speaker 1 (03:36):
You know?

Speaker 3 (03:36):
So obviously a lot of personal memories for me attached
with all of these guys who coached or played when
I was growing up as a you know, a really
just kind of diehard young kids Steeler fan, uh in
this town, well before I got into any broadcasting or
media capacity.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
So those were the four last year.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
I think it's important to note too that there was
the jumbo class to start this thing out out right,
But at this point now four has seemed like the
regular number over the last couple of years. But I
think it's always important to note as well too. And
you know this, and this is part of what makes
it so great, Like they want every era represented in

(04:15):
that Steelers museum, not just necessarily the ones that yielded
a bunch of Super Bowl rings and Hall of Famers.
They want every era represented in that museum, and they
want I think different eras represented in these Hall of
Honor classes, like we try and always see different eras
of Steelers football in these enshrine classes represented as well too.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
No respect on that, man, I mean obviously, you know,
whenever you're talking about getting in Hall of Fames, Hall
of Honors, these are the elite of the elites within
their respect to professions.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
And I think it is super cool.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
I mean, we always talked about this when they first
started as back in was it twenty seventeen if I
remember correctly, believe, and yeah, how we said, man, it
was cool that it wasn't just the players. You have
the Bill Cowers in there, but you have a Myron
Cope in there, you know what I mean. So you
can see just how if you positively impact this organization
and you do it the right way. Yeah, they're just

(05:09):
saying that, Man, we're gonna actually acknowledge you. We're going
to make sure that you and your name live on
within this thing. And that's to me, man, I think
super cool. But I mean, you know how it is.
It's always names that you could add to the list, baby,
it's always guys.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
That is the beauty of having a rich tradition like
the Pittsburgh Steelers and Moti. I got a list for
you of some let's say, notables, right who.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
I got m Delers, not yet got.

Speaker 4 (05:34):
My pets who I won't Yeah, already know my three
that I got off the top of my head.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
That went right in now straight like that. Man.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
I want to make sure we preface this by saying,
I hope I got like all the names that that really,
But there's there's I think there's obviously going to be
some names that we might not mention here because there
are so many still.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
I think whenever we preface it as these are the
guys that are the worthyest, that's what you read into
what you're talking about, you can just simply say these
are the guys to me that come off that, oh
they were. I just thought of these guys versus like, oh,
this is the guys that you know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Because now you've said, like, well, what makes that guy
better than that guy? You know what I mean? Or
that guy versus that you know what I mean? So
I get it, though, I definitely get it.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
So I just want to preface this with I did
a little research on this. I also kind of cheated
and asked Google AI to help me out a little
bit too. And so I hope that this is this
is some some thorough list of names. I there's one, two, three, four,
or five, six, seven, eight nine.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
I mean that that.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
We can make a very easy case for. But most
you said you've got at least three right away that
we're on your list. I got to imagine your former
quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is one of those.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
No, he wasn't, because it's exclusion. No, man, I really
stepped in it there. I thought I was set. Like
what seven, We talk.

Speaker 4 (07:03):
About him as a first battle Hall of Famer, like
a hall of honor to be is like, Okay, I'm
wasting my time if I'm bringing seven up.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
For and there's no respect to the Hall of Honor.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
But to me, the way that I've looked at it,
the way that I've looked at it, like yeah, hall
of honor, like.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
The Jason Guildens of the right, right, the guys that
we know are legendary dudes, but we question will they
ever actually get a chance to step footing?

Speaker 4 (07:30):
Can I have zero doubts in my mind that seven
is to be a first ballot.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Dudes like the reason you know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (07:39):
Yeah, yeah, I'm like, of course, yeah we can say seven.
We can name any of those dudes. But that would
be kind of like when the Hall of Honor first
opened up and was like, hey, man, which you mean
you're not gonna put Dicklar Boy in there?

Speaker 2 (07:49):
And shit or how long we're gonna wait for for drunk.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
Best to get in there. It's like, you know, these
dudes a get like that's not even a debate. So
that's why I did. So I even have him like
in my convo. Yeah that, but I still have a
strong three though.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
So for me, man, Joey Porter, he's the first guy.
Think of number one. He was a all time great
in terms of impact here. In terms of statistics, he
for a while was the top five all time Steeler
sack leader type Conbo. Obviously, we know Jason Gilden and
James Harrison were the big big dogs in terms of
the numbers, but you also got to remember that outside

(08:27):
of his time here piz he has more sacks than Debo.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
That's the other part of it.

Speaker 4 (08:32):
So it's not like we're saying that Deebo is just
this like bona fide better pass rusher. But we know
Deebo had the crazy moments and the posts and all
of his sacks were here, which is the other part
where it's for Peasle. We know he spent some time
in Miami and in Arizona. So Joey Porter to me
is the first guy. And not only did he play
here and have his impact here and be that like true,

(08:55):
Like I don't call him the face of the defense,
but he was was an icon, Like I was not
I would. I was in a Steelers fan, but I
was a Joey Porter fan. Why because he's gonna kick
your butt on the field and off the field. I've
always loved that, Like that's always been my thing, man,
So that's why for me, Like, yeah, absolutely, So that's
why for me, I'm like, all right, Jason Gilden had

(09:16):
to get in, James Seriuson had to get in, Joe
Kevin Green had to get in. But the only other
pass rushers that we might bring up one is still
playing right now in terms of ninety you know him, right,
And then the other one is already in in Greg Lloyd.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
He's already in the hall.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
So which pass rushers are we talking about when we
say Pittsburgh Steels pass rushers that are bigger than Joey
Porter that are already in this still actively playing right.
So that's what I'm like, It has to be joy.
And then he came back and coached on top of that,
and his son is playing here on top of that,
It's like, come on, man, what do we waiting on?
So to me, that would be the one for me

(09:55):
and helped to get out of the playoff game too.
I never forget since nay shout to Jerry Porter. Okay,
when you need him, you need.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
Part of Listen. You know this too. This is the
dorky fan side in me.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
Okay, Like I think a big thing of Hall of
Fames on a league level, and then Hall of Honors,
Ring of Honors, whatever franchises call them on a personal
franchise level.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
Yep, I think you just touched on it. Can you
tell the story of the league without this guy? Right?

Speaker 3 (10:28):
Like the Eli Manning we might call it as it
relates to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. You can't
tell the story of the Pittsburgh Steelers without Joey Porter
being a big part of that early twenty first century
success us.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
Every time you see pre game where they take the
picture of TJ Wide in the middle of the circle,
they still say who Ride? Who do you think introduced
who Ride?

Speaker 2 (10:56):
I'm just trying to figure out in the locker room.
Who do you think when it left? The shot him
Denver Tamo? Are you ready? West?

Speaker 4 (11:05):
I'll take one step further. It left when he left? Well,
how do you think it came back? I was a
part of twenty fourteen when it got reintroduced at Day
Going it was it lay Trope Area High School Friday
Night Lights I will never forget.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
Started out with Terrence Garfing in the middle.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
Then from Terrence Garvin it became law Dog, and law
Dog turned to shay Z and then from shayzyer became
Vincedent at the Vince became TJ. Wh what are we
talking about, man, Like that's the joy porterfect man.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
So you can't tell the history of the franchise without
him being a very important crucial piece both on the
field and culturally of that of that team's success in
the in the early.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
Twenty first century. So he's the first guy, give me,
give me another one before we go.

Speaker 4 (11:52):
I give my through. I can keep you through, all right.
So the second guy rip, but you already know we're
very close to him. Craig Wiffley. Not only did he
play ton here have a ton of success here, but
you also talk about the contributor part. And this is
why I look at that hybrid of the Myron Copes
of the world, said, man, Myron, love Myron, my right.
Now they got a chance to put that hammin on,
step out on that field and go out there with

(12:13):
them big boys. Let's let's not confuse the two. When
I look at Wolf, I'm like, Yo, woof did this
thing for how long? Playing and then turned around and
did it how long on the broadcast side Super Bowl
Woman's radio broadcast. You talk about the different levels of
the radio broadcast that he's been a part of as well.

(12:34):
I think of all of those things, man, and I'm
like that that like we're just saying that next tier, right,
you're not the headliner of the group, but that next guy.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
Were you having that impact on and off?

Speaker 4 (12:48):
That's Wolf And then on top of that too, and
it's like he's one of those ones uniquely to me
that I say, even though he had a heck of
a career playing as long as he did and having
the success that he did, he's one of those players
almost similar to Tounch, where they became bigger in media
than they did during their actual playing time, which is

(13:08):
a true testament to just who they are or who
they were and how they were able to reinvent themselves
pre you know, while they were playing football and then
post when they retired. To see that both of those dudes, man,
were able to do what they did and then obviously
with touch getting into the Hall of Honor. To me,
I just think that that makes the most sense. It's like, man,
it's perfect. And obviously the timing of it sucks because

(13:31):
he's not going to be here or win it, be
here to appreciate it. But it's like, man, once again,
you saw the impact you saw when he passed. The
organization had to make posts about it. Why because we
knew how much a stealing nation would be impacted by
this guy, because of how many people. Even if you've
never seen him and never sat in the same room
with him, if you watch the Stealer game and you
had that radio broadcast on, you heard his voice.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
You heard how he would.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
Depict certain things that were taking place on the field
and do it in such a colorful manner that it
makes you laugh. But can clearly understand the Mesachief Choindie convey.
When I think of all that, I say, man, what
more are we looking for? When we say this is
who represents the organization? These are the guys that we
want you to go back when is all said and

(14:15):
done two hundred years from now, we say, hey, look,
it was only fifty guys. It was only one hundred
guys that made itto the Hall of Honor. Let's look
up each guy and let's find out exactly what made
them unique. And Wolf is going to stand up versus
any of these other people that were bringing up Man
for what he brought to the table as well.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
Arthur Nathan Motes the third, I couldn't love anything anymore
than what you just said there. I completely concur he
was on my list as well too. I had a
feeling he would be for you because I mean that
whole thing that I just said about telling the story
of the history of.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
A franchise, He's he was partly the storyteller.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
He was part of the story and was one of
the big storytellers of the franchise. A it is a
player multiple decades as a broadcaster. You know this too,
like it. It's when we really get into the season here.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
It was.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
It was weird for a long time and still kind
of is without Touch around, It's going to be weird
for a long time without Wolf around.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
He was just such an especially football starting back up.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
And that's one of the do is that we literally
will see all the time, talk to all of the time.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
You know he loves this day man.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
Yep, and again, uh you you cannot tell so much
of the history and the cultural impact of the Pittsburgh
Steelers without talking about Craig wolf Lely and uh, to
get back to your even like starting point as well too,

(15:51):
This like this, I think would be a deeply cherished
and deeply deserved honor in his memory and and for
you know, for his wife or his mother, for a
lot of his family that is still here and would
and would be able to appreciate that honor as well too.

Speaker 4 (16:08):
Yeah, I without a doubt, like said, he's definitely one
of the ones I'm hitting the table for. I'm like,
hold on now, psy Wolf, Okay, and if you're ready
for my third, when I gonna drop my third?

Speaker 2 (16:18):
Woe, I've not been talking a lot. Oh you're good.
We got nothing on this, got nothing but time I
get passionate, we get to talk ball. You know this
all right?

Speaker 4 (16:28):
But uh, my last guy, I go back to two
thousand and two because you said I got to hit
multiple era. So I got you with the old school
in terms of Wolf, I got you with like my headliner,
in terms of Peas. Now, this guy has a little
bit of overlap, and in terms of the piz era,
he's two thousand and two draft class black and goal,
fourth round one hundred twenty eighth overall pick.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
Dude.

Speaker 4 (16:47):
They played eleven years, won two super Bowls with the team,
and was my coach when he did the full Pittsburgh
West Arizona Cardinals.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
You know sabbatical as well. I'm talking about l foot
ladies and gents.

Speaker 4 (17:01):
Larry foot Man obviously, man, he was the running mate
with Pazzi, right, James Ferry, who was obviously already a
part of the Stills Hall of Honor from her correctly
he was twenty twenties class yes when he got in.
So to me, man, when we think about running mates,
when we talk about the pairs, right, the guy that hey,

(17:21):
this is the bad man, this is the robin. To me, man,
Footy is one of those dudes that bald during his
time here, was productive during his time here, was consistent
during his time here, and it wasn't you know that
he got all of the name accolades and stuff like that.
But you talk about being a part of two super
Bowl championship teams, you talk about the statistics that he
was able to accumulate also during that time frame while

(17:44):
playing over eleven seasons here, I mean, this is a
dude that gave you one hundred plus tackles on multiple occasions.
This dude that gave you multiple sex, turnovers, all these
other intangible things while also being one of those main
contributors and the postseason, he was one of your main starters. Heck,
in two thousand and five, he led your team in
the postseason and tackles Like, that's the part to me

(18:07):
where I'm like, okay, production impact. And on top of that,
I can selfishly say this because he was my coach
in Arizona. Absolute awesome dude, Like holy smoked man. I
thought I was a good dude. So I met Foot
and I'm like, but you make me feel like I
need to.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
Be a better dude.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
Man like god dog man Like he has that type
of genuine, just good.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
Energy about him.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
Man.

Speaker 4 (18:32):
And just like I said, a fan of what he
did during that time frame and what he's been doing now.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
Is he transitioned to the coaching ranks as well. Man.
But that's the guy that I would also say Man,
Larry foot Man, Arthur Motz. I love those three.

Speaker 3 (18:47):
I think those are three richly deserving candidates all for.

Speaker 4 (18:51):
I don't know if you could tell I play defense.
I like linebackers, all right. I know this is two
LB's in my class. I got an offensive lineman in there,
but I love me some defense, all right.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
It's flitty bro. Come on, everybody will be a flip.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
Love it.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
I love it so.

Speaker 3 (19:04):
Joey Porter and UH and Craig Wolfley were both on
my list.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
I love the list.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
A couple other notable names that I think I can
see deserve mentioned here as well too. We'll get to
that when we get back on the other side. You
are listening to the Steelers Blitz on Steelers Nation Radio
on the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
This is the Steelers Glitz with Wesley Euler and Arthur
Mose on your twenty four seven Home of the Black
and Gold.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
As skin are Steelers Hall of Honor twenty twenty five
nominations now open. As we've been discussing mostly with a
great trio of names there. In the first segment, I
also had Joey Porter and Craig Wolfley on my list.

Speaker 2 (19:57):
I mentioned Ben Roethlisberger brief at the seven the fourth
one for me.

Speaker 4 (20:07):
They could have pushed seven in last year if they
wanted to. They could put seven last year they could
put he was still playing. Man, it's seven, and nobody
is gonna say anything about it or gonna be ultra
supportive big pep rally, it doesn't matter.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
It's seven, Like cut it out.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
Maybe they'll wait till like just a year after he
goes into the Hall of Fame so that when they
put him in, they can announce him as.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
Two time Super Bowl champion Hall of Famer.

Speaker 3 (20:35):
So yeah, again, like this is not just necessarily like Okay,
who's the most deserving for how good they were and
what they accomplished type thing? There is a lot and
there's a great committee headed by Bob Labriola that has
similar conversations with what we're having, but very in depth,
and I think with people with even a greater kind

(20:56):
of length of knowledge as we do. So Ben Roethlisberger,
Joey Porter, Craig Wolfy, and there's a lot of other
deserving names here, but the one that I thought would
be cool. I think it'd be cool if if Ben
went in with Pouncy, wouldn't it like if we had pounds,
if we had Pouncy and the same time, and he's

(21:19):
for sure getting for and I know I'm kind of
talking against myself a little bit because that's two from
exact same era and Joey Porters.

Speaker 4 (21:30):
Awesome though, man, that would be awesome, Oh my gosh.

Speaker 3 (21:34):
In tune of like some some cool things that happen
with the timing of these Hall of Honors, if it's
this year, if it's a year or two from now, Like,
I think it'd be really cool if went in, because
I mean, you know, you were you were teammates.

Speaker 4 (21:48):
They walked up the field at the same time. Man,
you know what it is man, like Penalcy, Man, that's.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
Like those dudes.

Speaker 4 (21:55):
Man, seeing that relationship behind the scenes. Man, it is beautiful. Man,
I appreciate it so much more now as well. You know,
back then it was always like, dang bro, like you
really are willing to like put your life on the
line for him, and you're not getting any type of
acknowledgement or recording, like but you're just on that. And

(22:16):
then you look at how seven was rewarded though, man,
and how seven was always showing up and always being
consistent and always doing what he was supposed to do.
So it's like, man, I'm not just doing this blindly.
I'm doing this because I believe in you. You're the leader.
And to me, I'm like, yo, Pelsy, you're one of
the most alpha males that I've ever been around in
my life, Like alpha of alpha, like you are that.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
Type of dude.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
Man.

Speaker 2 (22:37):
But to see even with him.

Speaker 4 (22:38):
Take that humility and take that back seat approach, it
once again sets the tone. So even a guy like
me who's coming over new and the Buffalo power structure
very different because we didn't have a star quarterback. So
it's who's the most productive, who makes the most money,
and who's the toughest, right, But you get here and
it's like, nah, that's not the vibe.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
But we believe in this guy to that.

Speaker 4 (22:59):
Point, in this dude right here who we were calling
the goons, who was the leader of the goons, Penncy
God's gift if you know, you know, all right, so.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
Here man, Yeah, yeah, for sure he could get it
all made. It would be beautiful for them both to go
in together. Oh be so beautiful. But I'm torn.

Speaker 4 (23:20):
I'm tort I'm like, man, man, let Pelsey get his
moment too by himself. Man, But day you gotta go together.
That's like it's like Peyton Manning and just Saturday.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
Man.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
Come on, bro, you know what this is like they
just go hand in hand.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
Yeah, I think it'd be pretty cool. And again you're right,
like in their own way, they got to deserve their own.

Speaker 4 (23:40):
Moment because Pency is enough to be a headliner of
his own class. The same way I brought up Joey
Porter as a headliner, Palncy as a headliner. But if
you bring Pency with seven, Palcy's the number two and
it's nothing that he would feel negative about. It's me
as the fan of who Pelsy is a player. I

(24:00):
am just a pouncy guy, you know what I mean.
It's like, no, bro, he deserved his own moment. It's
the same way when we were talking about when Brady
retired at the same time at seven. Is like dang, bro, Like, yeah,
y'all both can go at the same time, and it'll
be cool to see y'all they're together. But like, we
want our guy to have his own moment. We want
seven to be seven, not oh it's Brady and Ben Roethlisberger.

Speaker 2 (24:21):
No no, no, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 1 (24:22):
No no no no.

Speaker 4 (24:23):
We got our own headliner. And that's why I look
at polse I'm like thaulas his own headliner. Bro, like
Pols can go there by hisself, stand up and everybody's
gonna go crazy because that's Mark.

Speaker 2 (24:33):
He's freaking pouncy man.

Speaker 4 (24:34):
Like yeah, man, I'm like, I'm like, bro, Pelcy deserve
his moment, man, because Pealcy is one of those Like
and when I say like you hear me speak of
all this stuff on the football side, man, but genuinely
a good heart, like I know publicly man, there's always
been certain things you know, just from his past, but

(24:55):
from my first relationships with him, Ben a genuinely just
good heart. What are the news that you want in
your corner?

Speaker 2 (25:02):
Man? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (25:03):
And I know if you talked to the Pittsburgh Police Department,
they would share in that a thousands, not always loudly
and out in front for everybody to see. But he
did a ton of work between between and trying to
bridge that gap between police forces.

Speaker 4 (25:20):
And we had those convos and you talk about what
you just said of why aren't you publicly talking about
this more? And for him, he just you know, some
people have that stance that man, they just don't want
that out there for whatever the reason it is. Others
we look at the hybrid approach and you say, man,
it can raise awareness, it could get good exposure other people, right,

(25:46):
but everybody is different in there isn't a right or
wrong way to support to do community outreach or philanthropic work.
But for me selfish once again, when you know, you
know some of the rep that he gets, it's like, dude,
if they knew half of this stuff that you were
actually doing out here, they wouldn't even think some of

(26:06):
the stuff that they think at times.

Speaker 2 (26:08):
Man. But that's just once again the type of do
that he is.

Speaker 4 (26:10):
And if you know him right now, you still see
he's out here actively in the community, man, coaching youth
sports and everything in between.

Speaker 2 (26:17):
Man, it's just like dude, Man, keep doing what you're doing. Man,
keep doing what you're doing.

Speaker 3 (26:22):
And as I repeat multiple times, redundant again as when
we have these conversations every year, like these Hall of
Honor museums, these museums tell the story of time periods,
and I mean he again, you cannot tell the story
of his decade with the Steelers, about the Steelers without
involving him on the field, culturally, in the community, all

(26:45):
those all those different things. A well deserving candidate. So
yeahs to get.

Speaker 2 (26:50):
In this year. Man, stop playing adult hey man.

Speaker 3 (26:55):
Or teaser for you, okay, because I'm gonna take let's
let's you know what, actually, let's do this now.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
Let's do this now.

Speaker 3 (27:03):
He could also go in at some point with David
di Castro, which would be pretty step.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
The study Casho and the thing man come on out.
So he was another.

Speaker 3 (27:12):
So I kind of had I kind of like had
a little bit of a tears to my list if
you will, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
And so the final two names. You haven't told me
all of your lists yet. Man, it's all different.

Speaker 3 (27:24):
So so far we've mentioned everybody except for two others
that I had had on on that list. David Castro
was one of them, and Gary Anderson was.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
The other one that I had on that show. I
to Gary retired and numbere.

Speaker 3 (27:36):
People don't like him, and I know he's a polarizing figure,
and I know Special teamers are a polarizing you know, kickers, punters.

Speaker 2 (27:45):
Everybody just did this with Devin Hester last year. You
know it should.

Speaker 4 (27:48):
It's the silliest thing to me though, because everybody goes
crazy where Chris Boswa goes out.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
That he kick it right completely agree, Like, like, what
are we talking about?

Speaker 3 (27:56):
We call it three so everyone the cliche, repeat and
repeat it, repeat it three sides of the football for.

Speaker 2 (28:01):
A reason, right.

Speaker 3 (28:03):
And Gary Anderson a guy that you know, was a
multiple time pro bowler in the Steeler forget his career
at large, which is like third all time in NFL
points and you know all these different insane accolades. He
was first in points for a long time, still is
first in Steelers franchise.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
I mean a game or two into the year. He's
gonna catch him very quickly. Here, He's right right on
his heels, I believe.

Speaker 3 (28:29):
But he in just Pittsburgh alone, was a multiple time
All Pro, multiple time pro bowler, you know. Again, is
still as of now, thirteen hundred and forty three points
Steelers franchise record. I just he is a guy that
I think deserves to be brought up in these conversations

(28:50):
as well. Him and him and Dakashi.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
Yeah, listen, I'm all for Gary Andison.

Speaker 4 (28:53):
In fact, I'm a little bit surprised that it has
been this long because it's like, once again, you don't
get number one reason Gary Anderson is that reason.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
Gary Anderson. You look at what he did while he
was here. You look what he did league?

Speaker 4 (29:06):
Why And it's like the only non football people minimize specialists, man, Right.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
That's lit.

Speaker 4 (29:13):
And you see how my face. We don't have the
cameras so y'all can't see it, but what sees how
my face gets a lot of times we talk specialists
and how people will just kind of, you know, cast
into the side or minimize their greatness. And it's like, no,
when you talk like that, you just exposing that you
are not a ballplayer, that you don't do this, man,
Because anybody that has done this, anybody that's been a

(29:33):
part of the team, will tell you, yeah, we give
them crap because we like to mess with them, but
as a whole, they are very much part of the team.
Bosden got me out of plenty of stadiums. And you
think about how we've talked about a Brad Wing or
Jordan Barry. Why because field position matters as well, and
if those guys are doing their job, I don't care
how great you think your defense or your offense is.
If you are constantly starting behind the eight ball due

(29:55):
to feel position or you cannot consistently make field goals
a routine special teams plays, you are going to get
beat and get beat a lot. And there's a big
reason why the Steels are so successful, specifically under Coach Tomlin,
because he puts so much intention on special teams.

Speaker 2 (30:15):
It matters.

Speaker 4 (30:15):
I've been places where special teams the afterthought, no one
cares about it, and the record reflects that. Then you
look at the places where special teams matters, where we
highlight the Danny Smiths of the world, why because it matters.
And you look at the impact that special teams has had,
specifically under Coach Tomlin's tenure, and show me where it

(30:36):
hasn't helped us. Shoe showed me the track record where
we've lost games more than we've won games due to
our special teams. You're not gonna find a lot of
that tape out there, baby, because spush teams matters, man,
and we do an excellent job man between going from
a sewn sweetsham who held it down for a while,
and then it took us a couple of guys in

(30:57):
between that, but then we were able to find Jeffrey
think about jet before him. And then after That's like
I said, you changed to a Chris Boswell, who's been
doing this? What since twenty fifteen twenty sixteen time frame?
It's like, man, they matter, You need those dudes. Man,
So Gary Anderson for sure gets in. You know, I'm
not chripping on that at all.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
Yeah. I again, I feel like I said, you should
all time points, like all time leaders, Like what are
we talking about? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (31:24):
And again, I know some of this happened outside of
a Steelers uniform too, but a lot of it happened
in the Black and Gold. Third all time in NFL, scoring,
third all time in most games played in the league,
and third most field goals made in league history. And again,
a lot, a lot of a lot of his best

(31:44):
years were in the Black and Gold.

Speaker 2 (31:46):
We're not talking about average kicker.

Speaker 4 (31:47):
We're talking about one of one, like yep, talking to
those categories, the elites of the elites.

Speaker 3 (31:53):
Yes, and I think, like you said too, a great
point that I didn't even think about when his when
they won't let you have his number in the organization,
I think.

Speaker 4 (32:00):
That speaks now that quarterback, he's not a wide receiver,
he's not a running back. Not only Joe Green, yeah right,
And it's a single digit skill player number. On top
of that, they guys want the number one.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
Believe that.

Speaker 4 (32:12):
Believe that ither to say, trust me, it's more dudes,
they want the number one than they want the number seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven,
anything of the other than net.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
Yeah, So that was a good conversation.

Speaker 3 (32:24):
Like we said throughout the show, and and and a
couple of different times, let us know your thoughts on
our list, your lists, who who should be getting into
the Hall of Honor here. Next, we are going to
get to our final break and we'll get to some
tweets on the other side to close this thing down.
It is the Steelers Blitz on Steelers Nation Radio on
the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (32:54):
He's the Steelers Blitz with Wesley Euler and Arthur Motes
on your twenty four seven Home of the Black and
Gold Skin.

Speaker 3 (33:02):
R final segment here of the Steelers Blitz, and I
have to apologize to our power grid and our mega watts,
our dear tweeters, because we have some breaking news just
a few minutes ago, literally within the last half an
hour from Adam Schefter reporting that these Steelers have engaged
with the Miami Dolphins over trade discussions over Pro Bowl

(33:24):
tight end John new Smith. These talks came after Smith
expressed an interest in reworking his deal that is scheduled
to pay him four point eight million dollars this season,
and he is seeking a new contract in Miami, might
be seeking a new trade partner. Smith just set franchise
record for the Dolphins for tight ends for receptions, receiving yards,

(33:45):
and touchdowns, and as I mentioned, was a pro bowler.
And then Adam Schefter added in a second tweet a
little more context, but of course I just lost here.
Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith loves John new Smith, had
him as a young player in Tennessee and then again
in his time in Atlanta.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
Motzi.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
This obviously asks a lot of questions, and we have
a few minutes to close this down. But my first
two instant reactions are one, I think it continues to
be pretty clear that after in the post George Pickens wake,
the Steelers would still like to add another playmaker to
the offense. But two, though I'm a little surprised that

(34:25):
it might that it's looking maybe that they're looking at
the tight end market as opposed to the wide receiver market.
I mean, I think this is this is a pretty
substantial piece of news here from Adam Schefter.

Speaker 4 (34:35):
No, without a doubt, I mean the surprise if we
wanted to project, you know, what we want the organization
to do the year, why are you looking Why aren't
you looking at wide receiver? But once again, if you
focus on what Arthur Smith likes, he likes tight ends.
He likes to run the football and play action pass,
whether we're talking about Tennessee with Derrek Carry or even
what they were trying to do in Atlanta. So if

(34:56):
that is the case, and we feel like we have
one receiving tight end, who's you know, shown some production,
But at the same time, you want to add to
that room. We don't feel necessarily that we have two
versions of Pat Fry move for two guys. We can
legitimately attack you with through the air, a John new
Smith that gives you that, and the John new Smith

(35:17):
with the Pat Fry move is a lot more quarterback
friendly for Mason Rudolph or Will Howard. And that's the
other side of it, because you can do the approach
of run the ball, run the ball, and on occasion
we're throwing it the DK down the grass. We're trying
to get him a slamp, but that still is a
little bit more challenging for quarterbacks. And then we're talking

(35:38):
about can you go to the next stage, which is
actually reading some of these you know, coverages and taking
some chance over the middle things that we complained about
with Kenny at times.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
This to me, if you know it does go through,
it's the Arthur Smith.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
It's the mindset that we're more protected attacking with tight
ends than we are attacking with wide receivers. Your offensive
line doesn't have to be elite if you're attacking with
tight ends. Why because their routs are short to intermediate,
and just the timing of it, along with the personnel
that you implement defensively. So I think of all those

(36:11):
things and I'm like, yeah, that part makes a lot
of sense. I said, I was surprised of because I
want to say, John, who just got his deal done down,
I thought he just had a new deal.

Speaker 2 (36:21):
Yeah, it was like, yeah, he I thought he just
got paid.

Speaker 3 (36:28):
It'll certainly be something that will keep an eye on
here over the next few days.

Speaker 2 (36:33):
I did this one little interesting nugget for you.

Speaker 3 (36:35):
So five years he's played for Arthur Smith, either as
when he was the head coach, of the Falcons, or
Oc and Tennessee. Every single year his target volume in
receptions increased eighteen receptions, twenty receptions, thirty five receptions, forty
one receptions, fifty receptions, and of course the yard's going
up every year as well too, as you would imagine

(36:56):
in his five years with Arthur Smith, so very interesting
to send us into the week.

Speaker 4 (37:01):
You can say he's a good player, man, Like not
everybody knows John who like that. But it's like, yo,
johnno knows how to play man. It could catch you
got good run out of their ability, man. And those
are the things that you're looking for. And when you're
talking about the rapport that him and Arthur Smith might have, right,
those are the other parts, the familiarity that were always

(37:23):
looked for, always hunting for.

Speaker 2 (37:24):
That's what you want to see.

Speaker 4 (37:25):
I mean, look kie, I mean, he's built no different
than shoot the Michael Pruis, the Connor hey was of
the world like that six two six three two fifty range.
But I just think that he has shown a little
bit more consistency with the receiving production. He's not full
on pat fire move, but he is capable of that.

(37:46):
I thought the Miami Atlanta Miami time frame showed more
of that. Obviously, last year he was almost a thousand
yard receiver, so that's the part where you definitely saw
the uptick even more so. But he's a good player man,
Like E said, all those surprised shout it out though
more so, like I said, because he just got he
just got to deal that.

Speaker 2 (38:05):
He just had a great year with the Dolphins. That's
what I'm saying. I'm like, well, you just gotta do
and you bought out, you look good.

Speaker 3 (38:10):
Yeah, Miami does have a lot of money invested in
that offense already. Maybe it's just a balancing of the
books equations for the Dolphins.

Speaker 4 (38:18):
Obviously, before Johnny Smiff, it was Koseki they were dealing
with this. With Kyseki leaves this Smith turns over.

Speaker 2 (38:25):
He's the guy now. So you see what it is.
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (38:28):
Certainly something that we will keep an eye on here
over the weekend and follow up upon next week. But
that will do it for this week of the Steelers.

Speaker 4 (38:37):
Again, though I don't want to interrupt it at the end,
but I do like this approach. If we're not going
to have Rogers load up everywhere else load up everywhere else,
add another titan and add another receiver, add another running
load it all up like that's it was one or
the other, either Rogers or just crazy amount of pieces

(38:58):
around it.

Speaker 3 (39:00):
Absolutely and uh again, still a lot of questions, but
I think we're getting closer to some answers at the
same time.

Speaker 2 (39:08):
Fun stuff this week, good stuff.

Speaker 3 (39:09):
We'll be back with some more you know, OTA's thoughts
and all the news of the week next week. Everybody,
enjoy the weekend. A big shout out and thank you
to the power grids, the megawatts. I know we didn't
get to the tweets today, I promise though I got
your bookmarked. Like always, we will. We will get to
you maybe maybe on Tuesday's show. And as always, a
big thank you and shout out to the best co
host in the business, Arthur Nathan Moz the Third who me.

(39:34):
Take care everybody. We'll talk to you next week. As always,
you know where to find us. It's on your twenty
four to seven Home of the Black and.
