all that good stuff that you come to expect here
on the Steelers Audio Network as we roll into another
off season of great programming. Kicking off Super Bowl Week
in style today as if you missed it in the
first hour of the program, Miles Garrett, reigning NFL Defensive
Player of the Year. Of course, Cleveland brown has put
(02:10):
in a trade request put out a statement this morning
saying he loves the Browns organization, he loves the fans,
he loves Northeast Ohio, but he wants to win a
Super Bowl and he is requesting a trade out of
Cleveland to pursue his goal of capturing a Lombardi Trophy.
Arthur motes, we might have Max Starks. I'm texting with
him right now Radio Row on Radio Row in Radio
(02:35):
Row at Radio Row down in New Orleans. So I
think he's gonna join us at some point this hour
just to kind of talk about life down there on
radio row at the Super Bowl and give his thoughts
on this Miles Garrett thing.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
He's my inspiration, so I look forward to talk about
He's the meaning in my life.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
Man, who do you think should be interested in Miles Garrett?
What like? If you're a t do you have any
teams in any team that doesn't have any team that
doesn't have tj Y, Nick Bosa, Khalil Mack and Joey
Bosa and uh bud Dupre on your roster at the
same time, if you don't have that, uh yeah, Baltimore,
(03:14):
why aren't you interested in him? Please don't be If
you're Cincinnati, why aren't you interested in him? You're gonna
have to pay Trey Henderson, right, you're considering that because
that contract is he wants money. So you're either gonna
pay him or you're gonna allow that to leave and
go the rout of t Higgins and Jamar Chase. But
even with that, your defense, what you already said is
your Achilles Hill will be infinitely worse if you allow
(03:35):
your Henderson to leave. So once again, you either paying
him or you're gonna pay Miles Because you're either gonna
pay that or you got a big hole to replace
that man.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
And that's a fifteen plus sac. Dude just let the
league in sacks this season in front of who same
dude we just talked about Miles gret So once again, Cincinnati.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Bengals are a curious case. Yeah, because they've got the
quarterback and the window to justify going out after it.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
But you got to decide on Jamar Chase.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Already, they've got a lot of free age.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
Jamar Chase, you're going to account for what big decisions
to make.
Speaker 5 (04:06):
That's a thirty chas hit.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Yeah, T Higgins, Trey Hendrickson. I mean, they've they've got
some decisions to make. We know you going Jamar Chase though,
that's the one that you're not leaving. He can't leave.
It would be football malpractice and you let that guy.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
But that lead number, but we know that number is
Justin Jefferson or higher because he bet on himself.
Speaker 5 (04:27):
Y'all allowed to play this season and he went and
did the triple Crown.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
M hm.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
So we know what Justin Jefferson is. We know that number.
That's the starting point. So you're not keeping T. Higgins
and Hendryson. It's one of the others. It's one of
the other and if you don't keep either one, then
you still got to go replace that production. And that's
where the Miles Garrett comes in. Now, if you think
you can negotiate a deal with Miles Garret where you're
getting it for twenty five or you're spending it to
(04:53):
him that Hey man, you got a quarterback here and
Joe Burrow, we got a receiver, hen Jamar Chase. You
haven't had that. You can come here and get thirty five,
thirty six, thirty eight million, but you are going to
be crippling us. We could right Or if you really
want a ring, you've seen what we've done already. Trey
wants to get thirty five. He hasn't been paid like you.
He wasn't the number one overall pick. He's gonna want
(05:15):
to get his What this twenty five look like to you?
What does thirty look.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Like to you?
Speaker 4 (05:20):
Maybe you take thirty two, thirty two and thirty thirty
eight is a big difference. Now I can use that
six man. Don't give me a line, they may give
me a corner man, get another safety guard.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
You see what I mean?
Speaker 4 (05:29):
Like a six million dollars of that player is a
half of a player tight end, that's a dope player
for six million dollars, not the two not the two
million dollars variety. We're talking six minut doar like, or
a four million dollars player a four into two like.
That's the convo. So if you're Cincinnati, why aren't you
and why aren't you a part of this conversation is
what I'm trying to tell you. Yeah, because I'm ann
(05:49):
present that to Trey Hendrickson, but I can understand why
Trey isn't gonna want to take that. Trey's gonna be like,
I want to get paid. I haven't got that deal
just yet. Happen over here on the prove it it's
like a it was almost like that trans We think
you're ready to be a guy, but we don't know
if you're really the gaffer. What's that New Orleans? Now
he's proof he's the guy you gotta bead. Buffalo is
(06:10):
definitely in the mix.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Buffalo is the one that stay out. Definitely a mix.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
But at the same time with Buffalo, you're considering, obviously
with von Miller because the money is cheaper you're more
situational with him, Greg Russ, you feel good about that's
the young guy. You're gonna probably pay him, but you
don't have to break the bank. He's not a thirty million,
twenty million dollars dude. Correct, But you might just say, man,
I'm going to reshift that. Let both of those leave,
(06:33):
pay Miles Garrett, and then I'll figure out some type
of opposite rotation, opposite lesser version, you know that way.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
That's the intriguing one to me, because if you're Buffalo,
you're like, man, we are we want to pass rush.
You want another piece? Were right there with Kansas City.
How do we get over the hump?
Speaker 4 (06:50):
But they're also going to be adding either a wide
receiver or corner as well. They certainly are like they've
got some money to spend. But at the same time,
we know you can spend that money pretty quickly in
this league. It's just better to have it this year
than what it was last year. They were opposite, they
would just sell you.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Also, if you're one of these teams like Buffalo, like Cincinnati,
like Baltimore.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Because in Houston right as well too, like because they
got Will Anderson, is the team still in a Ricky quarterback.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
They have the quarterback. No, they have the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
What about Chicago? Who if they feel like they have
the quarterback? They have a Roman dunes Day, they have
a Keenan Islan there. Maybe they look at themselves.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
It's balance. Another piece the balance I think for a
team like that is how much, Because I think you're
you're looking at this as a like a fool rebuild, right.
Speaker 5 (07:39):
No, I'm looking at it as with Washington. Just do
a Jayden Daniels.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Oh, I'll see. That's a good counter argument.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
That's exactly what I'm looking at. And if I feel
like Caleb can't do that.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
We get a five year plan. You can get it.
We can we can contend this year.
Speaker 5 (07:50):
Who did I just bring in? Who's my head coach now?
Speaker 3 (07:53):
Mister Detroit Lions?
Speaker 5 (07:55):
Who the guy that everybody's going crazy about?
Speaker 4 (07:57):
Right?
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Yeah? The prom king beat.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
So I'm looking at this as a fire I'm saying,
why can't I do this right now? And if I'm Chicago,
what is keeping me from going out there and doing
that right now? I had to spend a lot on Kleb,
but it was in the sense of draft compensation. So
it's still kind of controlled. It isn't like you're not
killing me. You're not getting sixties and fifties just yet.
(08:22):
So I can do it if I really wanted to
make it work. Now, obviously something's gonna have to give
roster wise, but the Miles Garrett impact, what he would
bring your defense instantly feels better. And we know the
impact just complimentary football has on your offense and on
your defense, and I specs teams. If your defense can't
get off the field, your offense never gets a chance
(08:44):
to get in rid of me, get snaps. If your
offense can't sustain drives, your defense can't get off the field.
Now they're just constantly getting worn out, worn out, one out.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
You need both, Yes, you do.
Speaker 5 (08:53):
Defense plays well. Offense is a lot better. Offense plays well.
Defense is a lot better.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
Complimentary football absolutely throw specs. Tied's in there now you
cooking with grease. So that's kind of how I see
this one. It's like I could see Chicago because the
same way, and he has a Will Anderson the same
way Washington. They feel, oh we got this. He's that
He's like, well, if you Chicago, what you're saying is
the difference.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
You've also got a heck of an arms race in
your division. If your Chicago really three other really good
teams Detroit, I think I don't think it was the
one that I was just going to bring up.
Speaker 5 (09:25):
Like going for the forever though he was just he broke.
Speaker 6 (09:27):
His late, righte You guys a Darius Smith as well,
the only thing from Detroit, And I think like they
have so much invested on that defense, right, and it's like,
is this is this maybe overkill?
Speaker 3 (09:38):
But it also could you.
Speaker 5 (09:39):
Going to spend another thirty you already have aiden no
doubt you see.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
I mean no doubt. But I also what if they
look at it and they say, like, this is the way,
this is the way we want to play football. We
want to kick butt on defense. We're gonna run the
ball and we're gonna hit some explosives. No, I'm with
you on that.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
Like, I just think that something major is going to
have to give because already have that player past.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
Money invested on that defense.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
It's the same reason why I said no TJ. Watt,
no Nick Bosta, because you have when you that position.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Philadelphia Eagles too, right, like they but they don't so
much invest but on draft takes though, it's not like
Jordan Davis and.
Speaker 4 (10:16):
Jalen thirty million a year together, no first round draft picks.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
How much do they want to keep Zach Bond and
what's that going to cost?
Speaker 4 (10:23):
Right, Milton Williams, that's their third dude they rotate in there,
who's just as good. It's still a good player, but
it's like, I don't have to pay you right now,
you're gonna hit the market. I'm gonna let you go
in forsy because I got the cheap stuff in here.
It's just hard to have that much in one position group.
And that's why even with us here in Pittsburgh, it's like, oh,
TJ and heismanth was like, well that's a lot of
(10:44):
money there, but they've been living up to it and
you live with it. But typically it's like, you don't
want to have that much in just one room. That's
the t Higgas and Jamar Chase argument. They could pay
both of them dues, but you're looking at having sixty
seventy million dollars tied up and two players in the
same position that don't make a lot of sense.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
You're no way too, You're right way, You're right.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
So it's like with Aid and Hudgerson, Yes, in Theory
eight and Hudgson and Miles.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
It would be just that's a fan that's like video
game stuff.
Speaker 5 (11:13):
That's TJ.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
WHDe and Miles Gartt.
Speaker 7 (11:14):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 5 (11:14):
This is video but it's like to have both of
those guys.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
We're kind of greed they speak about in the Bible.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
We're talking about sixty dae year seventy million. If you're
bringing TJ and Miles Gartt together, because one is getting
twenty nine Mili the other is going to be getting
if he took a deal, a team family.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
Deal, twenty thirty million. You know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (11:31):
That sixty started off just between those two players, and
they are positions that don't score points either.
Speaker 5 (11:37):
That's tough sale, man, But my school go anywhere, man, Kansas.
Speaker 4 (11:44):
I see how the money is in Kansas citycause they
still got Chris Jones up front. But there are plenty
of teams, man.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
There certainly are Listen when it's a guy, a guy
like this, there's Jackville if you wanted to run it back.
But that depends on how you believe in Trevor Lawrence.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
If you think hey is the guy, and you think that, Okay,
they got this piece of that piece, they got some money,
they could spend a little bit. If you think it
is then you take that approach, maybe Tampa Bay. If
you think the big Rams we've seen in the past,
you know what I mean, like these all because you're
just considering the quarterback, the infrastructure.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
Like if Matt Stafford comes back and they're like, we're
gonna we're gonna load this up for the NFC championship games.
You know what I'm saying, You got young know this
thing up for one more year.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
Matt Stafford and the Rams already have had a history
of doing that where they don't mind living in the now.
Speaker 5 (12:34):
They'll spend extra to live for right now.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
They won a Super Bowl, they went to Yeah, and
they I mean, they just want a playoff game this year.
They haven't fallen off of a cliff because of it either.
I wonder how does he feel about Miami? So I
was just gonna say one of these big sexy markets too,
like a Dallas or Miami.
Speaker 5 (12:53):
Because Miami is sexy in the sense of location.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
Texas, you have a quarterback, they will be the best
quarterback he's played with.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Corract not a future Hall of Famer, but a quarterback
that's won a lot of games in this league. We
can't say not a future Hall of Famer.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
As it stands today, this is the same thing people
were saying about Cam Heyward six years ago. He's like,
this dude has been a top statistically at least he's
been top ten or closer to that since he's been
in the league. So with him, it's like, Yo, Miles
might look at that and say, man, I think this
could work. Think this man, we bring in another piece
draft something. Why can't that work? And I'm sure he's
(13:30):
been living in Cleveland, so, like I said, location wise,
he might.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
Be looking at that.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
Hey, Cleveland's a lot better I've seen. We'll start doing
it worked out.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
For him from the last Northeast Ohio star athlete who
took his talents to South Beach. As you referenced earlier,
it worked out all right for him, both championship wise
and lifestyle wise. I'm sure Miles Garrett wouldn't be opposed
to that, although he could go to the Bay as
well too, not the San Francisco Bay, the Tampa Bay
(13:56):
and link up with his old quarterback Baker Mayfield, where
I hear the weather is just as nice, and the
taxes are just as income free, but comes just as
tax free.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
Because Miami, I think Miami is more appealing than Jacksonville.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
I would say both of those are more appealing than Jacksonville. Yea,
with all due respect to your buddy Liam Cohen, but.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
It's just based off of the experience and everything that's
currently going on there.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
You know who knows a thing or two about Florida.
One Max Starks. It is he is. Look at this
picture that he just sent me of his fried oyster.
He's waiting for us. He said, I will talk to
you soon, and here's the fried oyster plate. I'll be
finishing in the meantime down there in New Orleans. So
interapt Max's lunch. We'll talk to him. What's going on
down on Radio Row moving and shaking? What does he
(14:44):
think about this Miles Garrett stuff. We'll talk to Big
Max Starks on the other side, a hopefully in a
good mood with a full belly of oysters. On the
Steelers Blitz. This is the Steelers.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
Blitz with Wesley Euler and Arthur Motes on your twenty
four to seven Home of the Black and Gold sn R.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
Back on the Blitz here as we roll along on
a Monday. It is Super Bowl week, which is always substantial.
Obviously a trade request of the reigning defensive Player of
the Year, Miles Garrett. That's kind of been the topic
of the day. If you are just joining us, or
if you somehow missed it, Miles Garrett has put in
a trade request from the Cleveland Browns, joining us now
(15:48):
to discuss that everything super Bowl moving and shaking from
Radio Road down in New Orleans. The host of in
the Locker Room, your sideline reporter for the Pittsburgh Steelers,
a two time one two buckle his shoe, super Bowl
champion with the Pittsburgh Steelers. It's Big Max Starks, Max
cow Man, the Myth, the Leger.
Speaker 7 (16:08):
How is how are you?
Speaker 3 (16:09):
How are your oysters for lunch? All right?
Speaker 7 (16:11):
Go ahead rub it in, uh Man, the Tarboro Oysters
and Dragos. They're still good, guys. It's still good. A
little bit little bit too much garlic today. I'm have
to tell them to tone it down for the rest
of the week. But uh but no, it's it's been
fantastic so far. Got here last night and uh, I
got up early to hit radio row and uh, you know,
(16:34):
one of my duties down for the day. I got
two more to go. So looking forward to opening night tonight,
which is the new media day, is now media Night,
the first night here Monday nights. It'll be happening at
the Superdome later this evening. So I'm gonna go in there,
get jump in the fray and uh, of course do
some do some player interviews and talk to the guys
(16:54):
about their super Bowl experience.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
Man, that's what you absolute rock star, all of inspiration, Max.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
I gotta ask.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
Man, obviously, with you being down there on a radio
row and that being the bombshell that was, you know,
let off what about two hours ago now Miles Garrett
requesting a trade.
Speaker 5 (17:12):
Officially, what is the buzz? What is your reaction?
Speaker 4 (17:15):
And just when you first heard the news, man, how
did you kind of feel about that?
Speaker 7 (17:20):
I mean, you know, so it's funny. We actually it
came down live as we were on air. You know,
obviously Chefty breaking that down. So we're in the middle
of talking about a random super Bowl story and that dropped,
and so we read it live on air, and I
was just like about time. I mean, you know, you
think of you know, many players, and yes, you know,
we could talk about the debate tj or Miles who's better.
(17:43):
At the end of the day, Miles Garrett is still
a generational talent, right, you know, one hundred and two
half sacks, most quarterback pressures in the NFL last season
fourteen sacks and most of those were double teams. So
you think about his production. He has been a twelve
plus sack guy for the last five years and he's
just about to turn thirty. So there's still two to
(18:03):
three really good years left of Miles Garrett. And when
you don't know what you have at quarterback, and especially
you know, people are like, oh, well, he signed his
you know, he signed a four year deal. He still
has two years left when he signed that deal. Just
as we always talk about, right, yesterday's price ain't today's price,
So yesterday's agreement ain't today's agreement. You know, he signed
(18:25):
that deal expecting, you know, Deshaun Watson to be serviceable.
Actually I could say just borderline above competent, and he's
been everything but that, and so he hasn't been confident,
he hasn't been healthy. They've gone through eight different quarterbacks
in the last two years. He's busting his butt and
he's not seeing any return on investment. Two career playoffs
(18:46):
in eight seasons for Miles Garrett, and he's looking around
seeing all these other teams like he's like, man, look
at Washington over there, they got a rookie quarterback. They
their ownership was in complete shambles. They sold it, and
two years later, there there with a rookie quarterback in
the NFC championship game. I want that. Hey, nobody beat
the Chiefs, you know, so if they're looking for people,
(19:08):
I want to. I want to. I want to go
jump on the bandwagon. Right, seven straight years of AFC
Championship game, that sounds nice. I've been in Lady eight years,
you know. So you start looking around and this is
the new era we live in the NFL. Right, or
player dissatisfaction breeds these type of requests, even though he
has no merit or you know, based unless you're Jimmy
Butler and a professional, you just go to the extreme.
(19:31):
But you know, there's an opportunity for him to want
to try and see if he can do this, see
if he can pull a debo Brandon. I you type
of situation, you know, scrub scrub, the social act like
you never even was a part of the team, you know,
all that kind of stuff. But I think for him,
you know, it's the opportunity to move on. And so
we'll see how that goes. I mean, he'll definitely demand
(19:52):
the king's ransom. Which when you're talking about Cleveland and
the rebuild, they don't even have a quarterback. They've got
so many things to figure out, and they're going to
probably draft a quarter with their pick this year. So
does he want to sit through another rookie quarterback, especially
when you look at your buddy Baker Mayfield who left
there and went to greener pastures. He's only gone to
the playoffs last two years in a row with Tampa
Bay Bucks and also won the Division crown. So he's
(20:14):
seeing there's greener pastures all around him. And let's face it,
this Cleveland, you know, we always talk about this, if
it's brown flush it. He's realizing that he needs to
flush to Browns as well.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Max, I think you're you're you're spot on. I do so.
So one of the things that Motes and I talked
about at the beginning of the show, like and you
kind of touched on it there. You you do think
that this is like like one genuine in the sense
of like there's there's there's no cynical part in you
that's saying, maybe this is just a power play by him.
(20:45):
He wants to force their hand to take a quarterback
at third overall and move on from Deshaun Watson and
then maybe he'll entertain staying you do think that even
that for him, he's looking at that and saying, we're
still in the AFC, that's still too much of a rebuild.
Like you think he truly wants out. There's no kind
of cynical power play going on here.
Speaker 8 (21:04):
Potentially, Miles Garret ain't Joe Thomas, you know, but he's
not going to be that lifer that you know is
just happy with mediocrity and being the biggest fish and
a very small puddle.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
Fire.
Speaker 7 (21:20):
Yeah, exactly, which I'd rather take the puddle at least,
you know, that's safer. I'll take the bacteria save they've
save the Yeah. But no, I I think, you know,
I think this is genuine, like he wants out because
he wants to contend, he wants to win and you know,
like you said in his letter, I didn't I didn't
do this to go from Cleveland to Canton. I did
this to win Super Bowl championships. Like that's every kid's dream,
(21:43):
you know. You know about this, Arthur right that that's
when you go play this game. You want to play
in the biggest of games. I want to be the
last man's standing. And when it's all said and done,
I want I want to have my name eesched in
that sober trophy that everybody talks about, the sticky Lombard.
I want my name eeshton that and put into history forever.
That's what you go That's the immortality. A bronze bus
(22:04):
is great, but that silver trophy man a lot more portal,
a lot more portable than a bronze bust, you know.
So that's what he's going for, I think, honestly and genuinely,
like like he really thought a couple of years ago,
this was a missing piece, right, Deshaun Watson is gonna
put us over the top because we've now got a
more athletic, younger, hungrier quarterback that fits the profile a
(22:27):
little bit better than Baker Mayfield. And now two years
later he's realizing that's the S Show complete and this dude,
this dude can't get right, he can't even be competent,
and he can't stay healthy. I'm not going to sit
through this. And you strang, You put a stranglehold on
our franchise with his contract alone, we can't go get
talent because of his contract. So it's like you see
(22:48):
that big obstacle. So it's like, man, let me clear
out of here. Now. The biggest hurdle is going to
be for another team. Is this dude's do forty million
a year, so he's doing eighty more millions. So if
you either renegotiate or you have to do that.
Speaker 4 (22:59):
Salary guarantees left Max, so you know you got to
re up. And Bosa just did his deal. He's getting
we said, thirty four million per year. You still got
TJ's up for an extension of Michael Parson's is up
as well for an extension in Max Crosby.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
So that number balloon.
Speaker 7 (23:15):
Yeah, yeah, it could balloon out of great proportions. And
like you said, getting a jump on it right, like
how I mean, what better timing than to drop this
bomb right at Monday morning of Super Bowl week when everybody.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
Just got the radio row.
Speaker 7 (23:32):
I'm just saying, strategy strategury. Yeah, and and you hijacked
the other news of the week and that that dropped
on Saturday nights last Sunday morning, depending what time zone
you were in with that, Luca A D trade this
Trump's that, especially in our world on this week of all,
so he knows he's going to be the buzz all week,
and god forbid he actually shows up in radio row
(23:55):
and he needs to, you know, he needs to, and
he'll be coming in like a WW wrestler holding a
you know what I'm saying. Like it's gonna be complete
flex boss move if he does that. So it was
a perfect timing for him, and like you said, get it,
get ahead of it just enough before before the before
free agency, and before the combine. So now teams will
(24:15):
be thinking, well, let me add this existing fame caliber
talent instead of trying to speculate on who's gonna yeah,
who's gonna be good in three to four years. So
it was just it was masterful and that you know,
I don't know who his agent is, but his agent
definitely timed this up perfectly. And now you're gonna have
a lot of teams salivating thinking about, man, if we're
just one pass rusher away from getting to the super Bowl,
(24:37):
we might put all push all the chips forward, kind
of like the Rams did. Yeah yeah, when they when
they went after their one title shot so draftly.
Speaker 4 (24:44):
Darn Yeah, you're absolutely right that I was gonna say, though,
if that being the case, what are some of the
teams just in the instant, you know, reaction to it
that you think makes sense to be a potential landing spot.
Speaker 5 (24:57):
Four Miles Garrett right now.
Speaker 4 (24:58):
We obviously know you gonna have to pay him some
money once he gets there, but that we fancy as
contenders that we think would want a Miles Garrett on
their team.
Speaker 7 (25:07):
Washington Commanders, think about what they did two years ago. First,
right off the top rope, I mean, I'm hitting you
with the Jimmy Jimmy super flas snooker. I think that's
the first one I'm looking at right now, because you
think about remember when they when they got rid of
sweat and they got and they and they got rid
of what's the boy from Ohio State off the injured.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Chase Young?
Speaker 7 (25:28):
Ye, yeah, Chase Young. There we go. I was like,
I can't think of his name. I was like, I
was like, you know, he has Blondie. I called him
Blondie Dread. Yeah, Blondie Dread from bad Boy. But remember
they got rid of them and they kept the two
d tackles, and yes they've had some success and but
I think he's a difference maker when you talk about
being able to cause pressure, something they couldn't really do
(25:51):
on Jalen. They couldn't stop Sa Kwan. They need that
other They need an enforcer on the edge for them,
So they're the They're the first team that makes sense
to me as far as it contender this. There now
another team that just got a cap and draft. Hell.
I don't think they go after him, but the Rams
because they have a really good young squad. But if
you want a veteran in that rotation, he'd be one
(26:12):
more of a lesser. I think he'd have to be
a restructured deal to make the Rams a viable option
for them. Green Bay is.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
Another team I think that could be looking for.
Speaker 7 (26:21):
Him as well, because they need just a little bit
more push on that defensive side since she got rid
of the Darius Smith and Prestusman obviously came to us.
So there's a void there at the defensive end position.
So that's just a couple of teams, like just off
the top of the noggin, thinking about who can come
in and be a difference maker immediately. I don't think
he's gonna go to any asc North team. In case
anybody was.
Speaker 4 (26:40):
Wondering, it's no sense, then no, Baltimo's keep up fat today.
And obviously we don't need to hear in Pittsburgh because
we've got TJ.
Speaker 7 (26:48):
Yeah, exactly, we don't need that unless we would come
a four down team. Then you can maybe make a statement.
But he could be on the interior, but that's a
different story. We're not gonna we're not gonna entertain it.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
LET'SFC and and shim all the best. You made your
living block and guys like that.
Speaker 7 (27:02):
I mean, I know what it can do, but I
also know the history. I don't like rewriting history. Got
to hate them and give them. No, we would flowers
to your would you send flowers.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
To your act? Actually went through plenty of that with
those two trips to Baltimore at the end of the
season not too long ago, all right, and seeing some
of your your Yeah, sworn enemy, sworn enemies, sworn nemesis,
Nemesi on the UH on the opposition sideline, and we
certainly don't don't need any more of that. It is
(27:39):
our buddy Max Starks with us here on these Steelers Blitz.
Just a couple more minutes with Max Live from Radio
Road down in New Orleans. You mentioned it's kind of
the the media night kickoff Super Bowl Week tonight, Max, Uh,
we know you'll be involved in doing some interviews with
that in mind. Early storylines, early people that you want
to talk to, storyline that you're interested in talking more about.
(28:02):
What's kind of It's obviously still early in the week.
The big game is still you know, six days away.
But what's kind of at the forefront of your mind tonight?
What are you looking to get into? You know, I.
Speaker 7 (28:13):
Definitely want to talk to Steve Spagnolo just as a
defensive coach, right. I mean think about how after every year,
every hiring cycle, you get this new crop of coaches
that come out, and every team usually wants to poach
from the Super Bowl team, and Steve Spagnolo, I'm sure
has had plenty of offers to come interview, potentially be
(28:34):
a head coach because of his success with the with
the Chiefs and of course winning winning back to back
Super Bowls doesn't hurt either, but the fact that he
kind of has gone under the radar the entire time
and not really sought after a head coaching gig. He's
happy with being that kind of number two guy right
below Andy Reid, controlling his side of the ball and
being happy with it versus chasing the opportunity to be
(28:57):
the head guy. So obviously just want to talk to
just about that comfortability. I know he's done it before
as a head coach and unsuccessfully, but now has found
new life with Andy, So I do want to talk
to him just to kind of pick his brain about
is there an aspiration there is there not? Or is
he just happy? Hey, I want to ride out my days,
win a couple more championships, and then call it a career.
So that's one of my questions early on, you know.
(29:19):
Interesting enough, Vic Fangio would be another one because Nio
and eight against Patrick Mahomes had to head head coach
for the Broncos for those three years, Owen six against
them than DC for the Dolphins, oh and two against
him at the Dolphins. So Vic Fangio is another guy
that I want to talk to him. What's different this
time around versus the previous times that he's gone against him?
(29:41):
And what does he learn from those previous opportunities in
the eight tries that that he might think might be
different this time around. Talking the offensive line, for case,
just about playing with a guy like Patrick, how is
it to block for him? Not knowing where he's gonna
be in his escapability and you know, always keeping the
(30:01):
play alive, always staying alive until the whistle's blown. And
kind of the mentality they have to have is another one.
And then just kind of talking I think to random
players to get their mindset as far as like what
what makes Andy Resil special? How can you continually get
guys up year after year after year when you're talking
(30:22):
about a season that starts at the end of July
and doesn't until February year after year. Because I even
remember when we had our Super Bowl runs, like the
following year, you know.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
We missed the playoffs, and so.
Speaker 7 (30:37):
That's a grind. And how does he get and especially
that concentration of a lot of veteran players, a lot
of guys who come in and are kind of like,
you know, cast off so to speak. You mean, you
think of Hollywood Brown, you think of DeAndre Hopkins juju, right,
guys who've been journeymen, and how they're able to still
mentally get up for that and how do they fall
into the fold, because remember these guys had checkered pass
(30:58):
of the previous teams. They were very boy sious out
in the media. You know, we also remember all the
juju you know, middle of the field dances and everything. Right, Yeah,
so I think now seeing how these guys just all
of a sudden go to Kansas City and becomes like
a black hole or a vacuum, and they you don't
hear about them until it's on game day, so they
kind of I want.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
To pick their breads today exactly.
Speaker 7 (31:21):
And then everybody seems to forget about Travis Kelsey until
the playoffs, Like you forgot eighty seven's on the team,
but it's like, now do you forget about him? He's
still a viable guy. So I think all of those
type of things are just interesting early storylines that I
would love to kind of ask those questions and get
the most out of them.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
Well, Max, I know you're gonna do a phenomenal job
down there, and the way that you just lay it
all that out. I'm intrigued to see it and to
read work and obviously listen to it as well. But
I am a little bit disappointed. I'm just saying you
you you missed, like the the beautiful content. I mean,
we have two former Pittsburgh still as quarterbacks on both
of these.
Speaker 3 (31:58):
In the Super Bowl. I'm just saying as picks. What
am I missing here?
Speaker 4 (32:02):
No? When is when is the last time that's happened
when we've had two Pittsburgh Sillis draft picks head quarterback
in the Super Bowl at the same time we have
that right now. I'm just saying, I want that story.
Can I get that story?
Speaker 7 (32:13):
Please?
Speaker 3 (32:14):
One is already a champion. One is already a champion.
Speaker 7 (32:17):
I just do want to make sure that can He
Picket doesn't get knock out before I get the interview
on you know, that's always that's always my concern.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
No, So since you said you want IM wasna laugh
with it anyways.
Speaker 7 (32:31):
So yeah, you're just come sign.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
But I get what you say. I give what you say.
Speaker 7 (32:41):
Yeah, yeah, I mean so you know, I mean, yes,
he had the opportunity to take the helms when when
Jalen Hurts was out, but then he went made himself.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
Out of Yeah, yep, reoccurrently.
Speaker 7 (32:51):
So I think we got to look at it from
that perspective.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
You're like, really.
Speaker 7 (33:01):
So, but I mean, but it is in true. I mean,
and also, you know, I talk to Juju. I look
forward to talking to Juju. Obviously. I loved him when
he was when he was with us, and you know,
he's been on a journey and been there and back
and all around.
Speaker 4 (33:14):
Because last time he was and it was pretty loud
with his social media even during that time frame him
and was it Bradbury and Darius Slay during that time frame,
and I think a Brown he got into it with
as well.
Speaker 7 (33:25):
Yeah, yeah, so so, I mean, so I think from
that perspective, you know, it'll be interesting to see maturity
second time around. How does he how does he respond
to that? How is he kind of settled down? He
you know, he.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
Better win because they gonna kill him otherwise.
Speaker 4 (33:42):
Before who oh my god, forgot all about that storyline.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
Yeah it could. He'd be waiting for this.
Speaker 7 (33:49):
Yeah, there's the get back. And I also think, man,
this is a this is a different squad too. That's
going to be, you know, then than what the Chiefs
saw two years.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
Ago when the very different because yes.
Speaker 7 (33:59):
And I mean the historical run that he's been on
this year. Yeah, they're physical upfront, so you know that defense,
and the Chiefs team has shifted right from buying deep
shot team to the middle of the field Deacon dunk
ball possessing squad. There's more defensive minded. Their defense is
gonna be put to the test, and Patch's gonna have
to come up with some plays, you know, of his own.
(34:23):
And so I think this is this is gonna be
a lot tighter and a lot different game than that
one we saw two years ago.
Speaker 3 (34:29):
Max Starks live from New Orleans, Super Bowl Week kind
enough to give us his time here on a Monday, Max,
thanks partner for taking the time on a busy day.
Have some fun tonight and we'll talk to you soon.
Speaker 7 (34:43):
All right. Well, I'll be on the airwaves tomorrow morning.
Back inside the locker room, so I will sleep tight
and be ready to rock and roll.
Speaker 3 (34:49):
It sounds good, partner. Don't have too many oysters without us, now,
all right, all right, we'll do Thanks Max. There he
goes Max Starks the best as always good stuff from
down on.
Speaker 5 (35:00):
Brady Man, come on and I can never go wrong
with Max.
Speaker 3 (35:03):
You gotta love it. And he was kind enough to
text me, I mean, he's like producing the show.
Speaker 7 (35:09):
Love it.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
We're gonna get to our final break here. We will
close with your tweets as always on the other side,
last chance to get him in. You know where to
get at us if you want to get involved. It's
the Steelers Blitz on the Steelers Audio Network.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
H This is the Steeler's Blitz with Wesley Euler and
(36:16):
Arthur Motes on your twenty four to seven Home of
the Black and Gold scn R.
Speaker 3 (36:23):
Well, I dare say, Arthur Motes, this has turned into
an enjoyable Monday, I would agree. I Uh, this morning,
driving in here, I was like, we'll do some super
Bowl talk, some loose things like that. I was like,
but who knows, we might kind of be pulling teeth
at the start of this week until we get closer
to the big the big game. But boy was I wrong.
Thanks to Miles Garrett, Thanks to the Cleveland Browns and
(36:45):
I guess their organizational incompetence that caused Miles Garrett I
think we all agree rightfully. So we've gotten a few
different tweets, and we'll get to those here in just
a second. We have not had anybody tweet us yet
with like the you know, I can't believe he's doing this.
In fact, I think most people are pretty understanding it
as we've kind of laid out. At least he's doing
it in kind of the right timeline of not trying
(37:09):
to you know, dump this on them right before the
season starts, at least from that standpoint. So to the
tweets we go, and I'm gonna be completely transparent with
the fun nature of today's show, the kind of freewheeling
nature of it, and catch up with Max in the
last segment was big Max completely forgot to cut a
new Times your sounder for today. Wow, So instead here
(37:39):
what do we have there? We go? I you know,
there might be a really nice kind of intertwine of
all of these, maybe even be able to keep the Times.
I don't know. We'll decide we got time, we got to.
All we got is time, But I do want to
get to these tweets before we run out of time.
(38:00):
Randy's gonna start offs off today because it's Randy's birthday today.
Happy birthday, rand Day, Randy, big shout out to you.
Hold on as the FCC allows, that's all you get. Oh,
I hit the wrong button, Randy, you got an extra
half second of what you were saying. Oh no, oh
no wait, they're coming here right now to pull me
(38:21):
out of the studio. I know, Please, I'm sorry. I problems.
I won't have it to get a lot bit job.
It was like a scene from Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory.
I was like lou started dancing and I knew I
was canceled. I was like, just don't have my bis.
I don't know nothing and says fellas, it's my thirty
(38:42):
seventh birthday today, which begs me to ask the question,
what is your go to birthday meal? I usually like
to have a Paddy melt, but I'm headed to the
picc a Lily for some wings.
Speaker 5 (38:52):
Oh you're talking out.
Speaker 3 (38:55):
My mother in law was in town this weekend. Brought
us two big jab two big jugs, too big gallon
jugs of the court whatever they are sizes of the
wing sauce, and we had someone Saturday. They were delights
going to make some again on Super Bowl Sunday, let's
go go to birthday meal. Arthur Motes for me.
Speaker 4 (39:14):
I like ice cream cake, so I'll start with that
great answer and then from there. Traditionally, I've surfed and
turfed because I love steak and I love my crab
and lobster, so I'm an e both. It's my birthday,
made me feel special, But don't serve me if I
ain't get the turf, and I don't want the turf,
I can't surf.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
Motes and I as you've gone of the people I'm
sure have come to notice over the years, we have
a lot of crossover in our Venn diagram. Are uh yeah,
on my birthday, I don't know what it is, but
give me a filet and a bottle of red wine.
Give me right. I need to feel good, yep, and
like I love. I don't know what it is too,
(39:54):
because I love Ribbi's, I love New York Strip steaks.
But for some reason, it's a filet and some red
wine on And I'm with Motes too. If you want
to do an Oscar style or with a lobster tail
or something. But I'll tell you what. Pick a lily
wings sound fantastic. Happy, Hi, birthday, Randy Hope, He's a
jolly goodfella. Hey, jolly goodfella and many more. Now aighty
(40:18):
D tweets us and says the Browns will Browns. I
love his name, even though I guess they will be
well compensated, very very well by someone. I will be
happy to see Miles Garrett on another team. I might
even actually enjoy watching him play. Now Hope all is well,
Wes and motes without you, it'd be interesting, though.
Speaker 1 (40:34):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (40:34):
We've seen Cleveland in the past have a lion's share
of draft picks, but we questioned the just over execution
of who they invested picks on. With a trade like
Miles Garrett, you're gonna get an influx of draft picks,
high end draft picks, heck you. I'll be interested to
see how they do it, how they go you know
(40:55):
what I mean, because like they've had this before, condessim
with New England as well, Like, and this is what
I've always kind of caution that's against when people talk
about the the I guess enticement, the type enticson feeling
of the first round draft pick versus a proven player,
and they're like, I'd much rather have this draft pick
than this play. And it's like, do you know how
(41:16):
many draft picks get picked that fail within the.
Speaker 5 (41:19):
First two rounds.
Speaker 4 (41:21):
You're more likely to find the bust that you are
to find the all pro in the draft.
Speaker 3 (41:27):
If draft picks were is guaranteed, and I put myself
on this too from time to time. If draft picks
were is guaranteed as we like to make them out
to be, no team would ever trade for like they
did for Khalil mac Why would you give us.
Speaker 4 (41:38):
Point on the second contract? Why am I giving you
a second con.
Speaker 3 (41:43):
TJ.
Speaker 5 (41:43):
I'll go draft another TJ wide in five years.
Speaker 4 (41:46):
I'll just keep my my, my, uh my expenses down.
It's the reason why those guys get paid when you
find them and you try to keep them as long
as you can, because there's more people out here that
can't do it then can do it.
Speaker 3 (42:00):
There's not many guys that offer guarantees in the National
Football League, you know what I mean, Like, there's just
not many guys that offer guarantees. There's a lot of
guys that are okay, there's a lot of guys that
can be great one week and the next week. There's
not a lot of guys that you know, they're taking
the field seventeen times a year and they are going
to put in a shift every time. And Miles Garrett's
on that shortlist. There are not many guys on that shortlist. Yep,
(42:23):
just put him out there. Worst case he's twelve sacks.
Worst case Yeah, it's they do not grow those on trees.
Cuban Dan Dilly what tweets and says, as long as
he leaves the AFC North, I'm good with it. I
echo that sentiment, and Chili goes to Kansas City and
then we're all not good.
Speaker 9 (42:43):
Listen if that happens, Kevin Durant, if that happens, worse
than Kevin Durant, everybody in the stands better have snake
emojis held up on a sign.
Speaker 4 (42:55):
I would love it for I don't think he'd do it, though,
because you gotta take way too much. Like we're talking,
you would have to say like twenty million, Kevin Nack,
Kevin love Man shot.
Speaker 3 (43:06):
The Kevin Nate tweets and says, what are you guys
thoughts on Jalen Milroe more potential or do you guys
think that he can succeed if he's in the right situation.
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (43:20):
I mean, to me, Jyleen Milroe is justin Phils just
a little bit lighter when he was coming out. And
when I say light, I mean just in terms of
like overall proven like production, production and polish.
Speaker 3 (43:29):
I do think Justin Field is a better prospect coming
out than Ja Milroe. Yes, I look at it.
Speaker 4 (43:32):
It's just whatever I mean you think, Jay, I mean,
Justin Fhill is the top eleven pick. Justin Fhiel's like
coming out as a guy guy like that's not regular
was the guy guy. Milroe is probably closer to that
than the Milik Willis of the world or the Anthony
Richardson's of the world.
Speaker 5 (43:50):
But that's kind of how I see him.
Speaker 4 (43:53):
I think that mill Roe in the right situation, of course,
but they're big question marks the same way they're big question
marks around Anthony Richardson. Right now, these are the big unicorn,
freaky talented athletes that were praying if you can develop now.
I got Lamar, I got Josh Allen. But you know
this is gonna be a challenge. I mean, you've seen
(44:14):
even with Justin Fields, it's the people. They got questions
about that right now and this is your what going
on five right now?
Speaker 3 (44:24):
Mm hmm, so that's yeah.
Speaker 4 (44:27):
I mean it's a good player though, but think you
got you gotta make the right decision on it. What
are you asking it to do? Are you asking it
to come here and be the leader of your franchise
BQB one day one? If you're doing that, I think
you're gonna be upset. I think if you're asking it
to come in and be a part of something and
learn from something developing the background. If you gotta play
cool but we don't expect a lot from you early on,
(44:49):
then I think you'll love them.
Speaker 3 (44:51):
But which one are you?
Speaker 4 (44:53):
I think that's what you really got to understand before
you put that trigger on a guy like Milroe, because
he has all the changeles, though he could run like
the win. He's strong, his head, big, rocket arm, a
little shorter, not the most touch on his throes with
that's the same thing you look at Justin Phils. That's
part of what Justin Field struggles on some of the
deeper throws because it's not a lot of arc and touch.
Speaker 3 (45:11):
It's it's more direct.
Speaker 4 (45:13):
It's either we're perfect and it's a connection right in
your chest pocket right, or it's we all, you know
what I mean. And that's the touch part that you know,
those guys have to develop and it just comes through reps,
comes through you know, consistency and you know, just doing
it over and over and over and over and over.
So I said, member, definitely, he presents a lot of
positive tracing characteristic. That's why he's going to be a
(45:34):
top first or second round draft pick. And this year's
a draft.
Speaker 3 (45:39):
We will obviously talk plenty about the quarterbacks starting here
really soon. I mean we're gonna be at the Combine
in a few weeks, and yeah, there's a lot of
intriguing quarterback conversation to be had around I think all
of these guys, and it's gonna be fun. And we'll
get into that a little bit more as we roll
along this month. Mike tweets a couple final ones here
He says, my only hope is that Miles Garrett doesn't
(46:00):
end up on the Ravens. Michael Jones tweets us Mike
Jones there he is and says Falcons, Chargers, Cardinals as
as potential possibilities, and he says, you know, obviously Aiden
Hutchinson is there, but imagine the Lions adding another top
tier player opposite him. I didn't think about the Cardinals.
(46:21):
Cardinals would be an option. Got a receiver, Falcons, you'd
have to kind of sell them on we're really about
the takeoffs, right, like he's about to He's about to
do a Patrick Mahomes year two something like that. We've
got Bejon Robinson. We've got some nice pieces. You put
us over the top. There's some nice pieces in the
(46:42):
Falcons organization. I mean, they've got some nice building, but
to be good and it was just they still have
made the playoffs in a few years, but they've been
a disaster either. They've been around that five hundred seven
eight nine wins and.
Speaker 4 (46:53):
When they made the shift to Pinnis, they felt like
they were still close enough in contention. It was just
Kirk wasn't the same guy.
Speaker 3 (47:01):
Yeah, Ricky tweets and says, you know, feels like Miles
Garrett's gonna land on the NFC side Dallas. Perhaps listen,
you know, Jerry Jones would love it. In practicality, who knows,
played at Texas and but you know he's a Texas guy,
played at Texas A and M. But once again he
says he's trying to win a super Bowl. Trying to
win a super Bowl.
Speaker 5 (47:20):
They also have Michael Parsons down there, who they're about to.
Speaker 3 (47:24):
A lot of money, and the quarterback's making a lot
of money.
Speaker 4 (47:27):
You also have a receiver in a lot as you
got Dexter Laurence or DeMarcus Lawrence down there as well.
It's making a lot of money. It's like you still
I forgot the office. Salman is down there, but he's
still getting paid as well.
Speaker 3 (47:39):
Like they do not have a lot of capsprace to
work with.
Speaker 4 (47:42):
That was part of why they struggled the way they
did this year because all your cash when he got
hurt sixty at quarterback, CD kind of bumped up in
and out. It's like, Yo, we don't you get Trey Diggs, Like, Yo,
you guys got to be healthy. Y'all have to be
rock stars for the whole season when you're getting that
much money. I just don't see how they can make
that work for and still keep all of those people.
Speaker 3 (48:03):
I agree. If this was any of the last few
years when they've been coming off of twelve wins and
playoff appearances, I think it's a different conversation but they're
just not at that point now, and they're.
Speaker 4 (48:11):
Not enough to entice him to want to take that
type of deal that we're recurring too.
Speaker 3 (48:16):
Unless for some reason he's always wanted to play for
the Cowboys and sees that as which could be yes
way different, then yeah. But if his real real goal
is just to put himself in the best position to
win a Super Bowl, I don't think he's going to
really consider that. All Right, we gotta go, but a
couple of quick hitters from Tyler fun Ones to get
us out of here before we go. Freedo pie or
walking taco, walking taco, walking Tacolo taco. Uh Buffalo or
(48:38):
sweet chili, sweet chili buffalo, fire cream cheese or cheddar
jalapeno poppers both cream but cream cheese. Yeah, pretty solid.
That was good. That was good. Big thanks to Max

between his thirty seven shows that he does and a
dozen he got thirteen jobs and it doesn't always as
