Speaker 1 (00:00):
Euler and Motes are on the air.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
This is the Steelers Blitz on your twenty four to
seven home of the Black and Gold. Lessing are Steelers
Nation Radio? Well?
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Well, well I would number two still his Nation. How
are we falling out there? Baby?
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Feeling good? Feeling good?
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Well, that's what I love to hear. Over the edge
of this here still is Ricky Minnie Camp completed, And
of course you're listening to the Stealers Blitz. Arthur Motes,
Wesley Euler or still his Nation Radio on still is
out of your network. But shout out to, like I said,
the Black and Gold fellas over the weekend. But now
this is our number two. I have to pick your
(00:58):
brain on this one. I have a grievance slash. I'm
curious and when I get like this, I gotta talk
to you. Okay. So over the weekend, we know it
was Mother's Day. Shout out to all the mamas out there,
all right, But we also know that there happens to
be football being played right now as well with the
United Football League right the UFL. We've been talking about them, obviously,
(01:21):
a ton of NFL players down there, a ton of
former Pittsburgh Steeler players down there, right. I think we
named them off the one day was probably like fifteen
of the Cats man former Black and Gold dudes, you
know they were playing down there right, The trade Norwoods
of the world, the Anthony McFarlands, the Tree feen or
the Travis Foenis, Brad Wings, Kaylin Blage, to just name
(01:44):
a few. But one of the guys specifically that caught
my eye over this weekend. Okay, I'm watching this Arlington
game right, shout out to the Arlington team, okay, And
I'm like, okay, little Arlington in the gates. I recognized
the coach me and you big college football people, you know,
(02:04):
Bob Stoops, right, big Bob Stoops. Come on, man, that's
mister Sue. Come on man, mister Souoner. Boom man. You
know you do that. So I'm watching, you know, old
Bob Stoops patroling the sideline in this here Arlington Renegades
versus Michigan Panthers game. It's looking good and it's about
to be halftime rights a couple seconds left, and I'm
seeing this here quarterback, and I'm like, all right, cool,
(02:25):
you're making it look cool. You're extending to play and
he throws this beautiful twenty plus yard touchdown. Might been
thirty yard touchdown Tom expiring at the half, extended to
play back at it ends on his my man, Tyler
Vaughn's right, y'all know Tylervance Moore Pittsburgh still did his day?
What was that? Uh? He was a part of the
Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph Mitch Trubisky uh preseason where he
(02:51):
was one of our guys we were excited about. We
thought he was gonna have a legitimate chance. Ended up
doing some practice squad up and down stuff with us.
But we like Tyler Vaughn's so he catches to down.
I'm like, all right, big momentum play right, because they
gave them the lead at the time they were trailing,
So they gave them the lead. This what's going to
the half? You know, feeling good aboutselves, right, and there's
no flag going to play, So I'm like everything is
(03:11):
good and they say, oh we have this thing, it's challenge.
I'm like, oh, all right, they heck challenging the right
was no flag going to play? I'm like, maybe this
is kind of like you know, every scoring player's review.
So I don't think anything of it. I'm like, are
you scoring plays duo in the NFL? But this isn't that.
This is what they call a super challenge. Now, what
they were able to do with this super challenge was this,
(03:37):
even though a penalty was not called on the play.
What a super challenge allows the coach to do. You
can challenge penalties, but you could also challenge non calls
to see if a correction should have been made. Now,
we flirted with this concept before with pass interference. Right
(03:57):
following Nicole Rob Coleman, New Orleans Saints, LA Rams no
call pass interference. They end up going to overtime, Rams win,
go and win the Super Bowl. We remember how everybody
went crazy in the following year. We implement it. You
can challenge passing afference and no call ever got overturned, right,
you never got to overturn. We're like, bro, what are
you doing? Was waste the time and we threw it out.
(04:19):
So I see this thing and they're like, yo, they're
challenging from the coach called super challenge, and they were
challenging if it should have been a holding call. Now
you don't have a pass rusher. So I'm like Okay,
this is interesting, got my interest. Let's see what's going
on here. See the pass rusher coming around the corner,
(04:40):
and if we're being fully transparent, it's a call that
if we're watching and they were to throw the flag,
so you.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Didn't think it was blatant, like how they missed that call, Wes.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
I will give you the perfect depiction. You watched TJ
Watt rush the pass or how many times said gay?
How many times do you see him at the top
of the rush where he's been in the corner, the
tackless kind of on top of his shoulder pads area,
and he's riding them by and he just trying to
turn that corner. And we're like, all right, one side
(05:16):
of every twenty times you might get that call, right,
but as a whole, we still don't trip and we
don't get it. We're like, yo, it's part of the game.
But then we see TJ get up out of it
and get the sack, like that's what makes it that
much better because he had to overcome that contact that
resists at the top of the rush. Not a blatant
I'm two hand grabbing you, pully you, none of that,
just the typical which you see when he's rushing around
(05:38):
the top. Heck, we used to say this is when
Dieba would do the whole rip move. Right, it look
almost like that. Okay, so when they throw the flag, cool,
but if they don't, fuck the fact were not tripping
because we know it goes both ways. But with this
super challenge, they reviewed it and that's what it looked like,
(05:58):
and they overturned earned the call, which then took the
touchdown off the board. They end up having to kick
a field goal, and then fast forward to the end
of the game they lose by one point. Obviously, the
NFL and the UFL have been in bed for a
little while now in terms of you guys try something out.
If we like how it looks, we implement it. Case
in point, when did you ever in the history of football,
(06:22):
collegiately or professionally in the NFL or n Cuba see
this type of kickoff format.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
That we've dynamic kickoff?
Speaker 1 (06:31):
You've never seen it until who did it? UFLSFL, XFL. Hey,
you know what we're gonna implement this year for first downs? Right,
It's called automated first downs. Right, you don't have to
run there with the change anymore. Got this little technology
on the sideline, We're gonna take a picture of it
digital a within point five milliseconds, we'll be able to
tell you was it accurate or not? Within thirty inches
of the spot of the ball? Right? Where do you
(06:54):
think that actually came from? Wes? You know who's been
doing that. I guess what's been doing that was the UFL.
In fact, they have guys that were former NFL officials.
You heard of Dean Blandano before, as they're head officiating
over there. Huh So I had to ask, man, would
(07:18):
you be open to something like this because and to
not rush it. The other part, in terms of the
context of this with Dean bland Dean Blandino also said,
because he had talked about how in the past with
the Roby thing, right, how when we when the NFL
tried to change it, they said the threshold for what
(07:39):
had to take place in order for them to overturn
a call was so high that it was almost impossible
to ever overturn a call. And we said, you never
saw anything get changed. This criteria, they said, is different.
They're looking at the Super the coach of Super Challenge,
and they simply say this is the criteria for if
(08:00):
they should change the call or that if I were
to watch this play as an official and I'm grading
the official out there, would I consider this a plus
or a minus for his call. That's it, not the context,
not the time of the game, not the situation, not anything.
It's just if I'm grading you as an official, did
(08:22):
you do this, Yes this was good or no this
wasn't good. And if we would have said this was
a minus, then we should flip the call. Whereas they
talked about, obviously the criteria for passing Frist being changed
was a lot more in depth than that. So once
again I just want to ask you, man, what's your
thoughts on that. Is that something that you would be
open to potentially with the NFL because we've heard how
(08:43):
many times people complain about getting the call right. We
remember that outrage about that saintsan Rams game, and every
time a call is made or missed, how people react
to it. But this is a tangible right bringing it
back full circle here or something we could touch phase
now and we're like, yo, this was the impact where
(09:03):
we saw points come off the board for a non call,
very fifty to fifty ish even as a passion. You're
seeing it that resorted in the team losing, wish and
is you on that? Man?
Speaker 3 (09:17):
Well, let me say two things right off the top. Okay.
The first is that I love this from a league
like the UFL M Like.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
They got a lot of stuff they doing over there, man.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
And I I want to be respectful when I say this,
because the UFL is comprised of coaches and athletes and
officials and thousands of people who are very dedicated and
very professional at their job. So like, I'm not trying
to turn it into a do you know what the
Savannah bananas are the baseball Yeah, you guys have ten year.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
Old size now for those are that's like the Hallam
Rode Chotters is the Hollis.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
Savannah bananas are kind of like the Harlem Globe Trotters
of baseball. And so I'm not saying that I want
the UFL to do like Savannah bananas things. Yeah, but
stuff like the dynamic kickoffs, stuff like this, I think
it's perfect. Let's see it in a high level football league,
not the NFL, but a high level football league comprised
of professionals and coaches and thousands of people dedicated to
(10:18):
their craft and to the game. So I love that
aspect of it. But I would say I'm skeptical at
best about something like this in the NFL. And maybe
it's just because I'm a little bit of a cynic
when it comes to these things, you know that, But
I would just I'd be worried about the intentions, like
I don't. I'd be worried that this wasn't in good
(10:39):
faith that coaches would use a couple times a year
when they thought there was really something egregious. You know,
I'm skeptic that skeptic that coaches would use this on
a when they give up a seventy five yard busted
touchdown run. Well, let's go back and pray to God
that there's a little tug on a.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Jersey that's literally with when I was saying, I'm like, bro,
it's a ball.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
When the Washington Commanders had that dramatic Hail Mary touchdown
against the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Bears Challenge Super Challenge,
there was pass interference on the Hail Mary. There's one
dude who has his arm on a guy's shoulder or
something like that. Like I'm I'm very skeptic about it
for that reason. And then the final thing that I
(11:22):
would say is this from a pure fan perspective, while
you were kind of laying this all out, and because again,
like in theory, I think it would be great if
you could say once again, hey, you really blew that,
and this was get.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
You get to they said, you get to challenges of them.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
But like I think in theory verse, you know, practicality
like implemented, like like I just laid out some of
those things. Another thing for me is kind of just
the like the overall pace of play of a of
a sporting event, you know. And I feel like if
you had something like this every time there was a
(12:05):
big seventy five you know, Willie Parker in the Super
Bowl type touchdown run or a Washington Commander's Hail Mary
at the end of the game type moment, if you're
a fan, if you're one of the seventy thousand people
in the stands, or you're one of the millions watching
at home, you lose your mind for a split couple seconds,
and then you're like, oh, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait,
(12:25):
wait wait, let's make sure there's not a penalty. Let's
make sure there's not a penalty.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
But but but I would say, don't we do that anyways?
Speaker 3 (12:31):
Then well, sorry, so you're right, let's not make sure
there's not a flag on the field. I said that,
but let's make sure that the coach is gonna is
gonna challenge this for something random. And I just, you know,
like I I think in some aspects of sports, video
reviews can kind of hurt the moment, you know, And
(12:52):
I know, I know that sounds crazy.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
But this is still but as true the right and
they say though, but very similar to how when coaches
challenge in the NFL. You're bringing it up as if
I'm just gonna throw the flag and just pray that
something is challenged. You, Harry to the NFL, I have
to be specifically talking about what I'm challenging. It can't
(13:17):
be I'm just challenging the call. Look at this tape
and let's see what it is. Because once again the
UFL going off what you just brought up. And this
is why I wanted to talk about it. Sure they
actually do a great job of keeping the pace of
play because they don't want what you're bringing up. And
that's what we ran into the NFL right where it
was like, literally, yeah, we about to be here four
hours and then y'all take these twenty minutes to challenges
(13:38):
to its not problem, and they take they take forever
to review it. So when you look at the UFL
and their criteria is literally would this be a positive
mark or a negative mark? It didn't even take long.
That was the part that surprised me. So I'm like
that that's encouraging, you know what I mean. So that's
(13:58):
why I even want to talk about it, because I'm like,
I was anti the thought of it when I first
saw it, and I'm like, we'll hold.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
On here, man, like pretty efficiently.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
There was kind of efficient in it. If they would
have threw the flag when it happened, I, as a
defender would have said yes, hold. If I was on offener,
I said yes hold. If they didn't throw the flag,
which they didn't, watching it as a defender had said correct,
no hole, as office got to say correct, no hole,
because it's fifty to fifty, and there are certain parsons.
(14:30):
That's what we say in football, especially in the trenches. Man,
you can say they hold.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
It off dying.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
But this is the part where it was again right,
So are you breaking the rule? Yes? Does that impact
the game? Yes? So why is it that we put
more onus on that down the field pass interference than
we do that hole? And that's what the UFL is
ultimately trying to bring to a head because if we
say you could challenge something, what was the first thing
(14:56):
we knew that everybody was going to challenge? The NFL
They challenged every pass in France. It wasn't it pass?
It challenge that challenge that, right, But it's like we've
big complained about the whole just as much, and I'm
sure there are certain parts that I haven't seen enough
of just yet to know that. What about the flip
side of it? When as a defender we do certain
days where it's like, yo, your job is to pull
this guy out the way so he can't react back.
(15:17):
We've had it called on us defensive holding in the tree,
Like how that got He's like yeah, because that's what
we're doing too hard. But when you see it and
it impacts a scoring play, I'm just like, man, I
just think that that is a little different. But the UFL, man,
I'm like, yo, I could see this being something that
(15:38):
might flow with a point.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
I want to see some more of this, you know.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
Yeah, And they're gathering data on it, man, And like
you said, I just thought it with something interesting. Man,
don't end this another thing that we'll always talk about
later on, man, but one side kick. Man, they we
obviously know we've proposed it at some point over the
past two years of going to this fourth and thirteen,
fourth and fifteen model. You know who's doing that model
(16:03):
currently absolutely gathering data and they're trying to get it
where they're saying that, hey, it's about a fifteen to
thirteen percent conversion rate in comparison to point zero six
percent on side kick conversion rate since we shifted the
on side kick rules point zero six big trusted point
(16:27):
zero and that point six point zero is like, bro,
it's almost like, yeah, you already know you don't have
a chance getting on side kick mathematically pretty much now.
So so that's what I'm saying, Man, don't don't be surprised.
Don't be surprised. You heard it.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Oh no, this is this is you know, the the
UFLFL in.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
The NFL are working together. Yes, for sure, I know
we're gonna be over here, like, oh, it comes with
the UFL most it's like, no trust I'm giving We're
giving you the head up. Now.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
It'd be like when you have like your little brother,
your little cousin, like you wanted to push the boundaries
of what you could get away with, but you didn't
want to do it yourself, so you'd like, hey, you
tell your little cousin, like, hey, go up there, go
up there to the table and like uh huh, take
two cookies and a brownie, all right and bring them back.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
They say they shouldn't say an et. If they do,
all right, we know, but if.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
Not, go up there, I like this day, go up
there and grab me two doctor Pepper's all right and
see what they say.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
Come on, man, you know the drill and look look
and that's just in life. We always do we lifey,
you go first, all right, you go over there and
see if if the Indians on that side of the mountain,
all right, you check it out first. We know the drill.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
You go pet that dog first, make sure does he bit.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
You find out sick? Oh we are sick, man. But
that is the reality of it, man, you know, that's
how it goes. So, like I said, man, that was
kind of caught my eye with that UFL situation, and
it just will happen that it was Tyler Von's form
More Pittsburgh. But yeah, man, like I said, brought super challenge, man. Yeah,
(18:05):
the super challenge. Like I said, man, I figured this
time of year, these are the time frames we know coaches,
the coaches meetings that we've had, the owners meetings that
we've had, We've seen some of the rule proposals, and
how some of them already reflect UFL stuff. Yeah, just
keep eye on it, man. But like I said, I
figure we get our talk on that. But let's take
another break real quick and get back to More Shop.
(18:27):
When we return, I'm Arthur Motes and that is Wes
Leuler and this is the Steelers Blitz.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
Steelers Flitz with Wesley Uler and Arthur Mose on your
twenty four sheven Home of the Black and Gold cask are.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Well, let's go. It is the penn ultimate segment of
today's showing. The Steelers Blitz are the most Wesley Yula
here chopping it up. Have been a last her usual
And I gotta ask your baby. You know obviously last
time me and you were conversing, we had a George
(19:11):
Pickens trade that took place obviously big Tom bombshell, kind
of crazy. But since then there's been talk about wide receiver,
how you replace the production and things along that nature.
Right because of when the trade happened following the draft
and it had me thinking and I wanted to kind
(19:32):
of get your thoughts on it, man, just you know,
from your perspective first before I, you know, start tapping
into kind of how I view it, but just want
to kind of get your confidence level or talk a
little bit about the conference level that you have in
guys like Calvin Austin the third and Roman Wilson potentially
elevating even more. We obviously know what GP was and
we were hopeful that we would get GPS production in
(19:55):
come in unison with DK Metcalf, But right now we
just removed nine hundred yards of receiving about seventy catches
and a couple of touchdowns as well. Is this something
that we feel confident the tandem of Calvin Austin the
third and Roman Wilson as the two will be able
to elevate to give us that type of production as
(20:18):
a whole, or is it something that we think we
truly are gonna outsource or would need to outsource to
find that type of production.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
I'm I'm gonna, I'm gonna go towards the ladder. I'm
excited about what Calvin Austin can be with, you know,
a year that felt like.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
He Calvin Austin us the third scene when we stick together,
us the thirds, Nathan Most the third all right, all right,
you got you get some catching up with the do
over there, you get your valley. The second and the
third an.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
M three and and C A C A three.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
You know us three pieces we matter, Okay.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
He he kind of started to, you know, to plant
his his his foot in the ground as an NFL
wide receiver capable last year and it's some big plays
and some big moments and responded well to to some
injuries and some hits and some things like that. Right
he belongs on an NFL roster. I'm excited for the
(21:30):
season that he can have. But there's also there's not
the proven wide receiver number two like we've seen in
the past, or like we thought that it would be
if it was DK Metcalf and George Pickens. I will
say this, I would I would feel more confident in
(21:52):
if the Steelers go into this season with the group
that they have right now, and I should probably wait
till post training camp to so subject to change, but
as we sit here today, I would feel a little more.
I would feel a little more confident in this group
(22:12):
than last year's group, just mainly because DK Metcalf, I know,
is a proven, bona fide number one receiver in the
National Football League. Whereas we thought that about George Pickens
going into last season, and we did see it in
moments certainly last season. But DK Metcalf has done it now,
He's proven.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
He's more proven. Yeah, this is definitely more a solid
foundation with him.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
He's a proven commodity. So while I'd still be concerned
underneath him and with the depth and hey, c A
three is a little more proven at this point as
well too, and some things like that, but you know,
I like some of the other depth pieces potentially that
they've added, But it would feel a lot like we
felt last year, except for again, a little more proven
(22:58):
wide receiver number one. Certainly then you had, you know,
like this time three hundred and sixty five days ago,
uh after you had traded uh Deontay Johnson. But yeah,
I would I would still not feel great about it.
It would It would give me some some heb gbs
that we were gonna go into another year where like, hey,
it's DK Metcalf. Better be that dude for seventeen games,
(23:20):
and he better be healthy for seventeen games because if
he's not, we're in big trouble.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
And this is why I'm like torn because everything you
said right there makes one thousand percent since And this
is why I'm always like, all right, am I just
Arthur Motes the former NFL player, or I'm a Arthamos,
the former Pittsburgh Steeler. Because you don't have the Pittsburgh Steeler,
(23:48):
you always just feel a lot more confident. You're a
lot more optimistic. You're like, you know what, No, we
don't need that. They can't they will of course. Why
you see the color of the jersey, you see the
logo and the helmet. What are we talking about here, dumb?
But then my other side is like, Motes, you know
better than that. Most nine hundred y'all has a lot
(24:08):
of protection. Man in the war superside man. All right,
that's a lot of production at the war position. Okay,
we minimize nine hundred yards the way that we minimize
ten wins in a season due to what we have
seen in terms of us winning six Lombardies and us
having receivers like Antonio Brown and Hines War. When you're
(24:30):
used to greatness and you've seen greatness, really good looks
like average to just nah, we ain't tripping on that
where anybody can do that kind of what we joke
about with the Naji Harris all. Anybody go place that
producta and you're like, hey, bro, I just want to
let you know down yards four consecutive seasons, the amount
of like that is just a common name. I know.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
We would say it is after the quarterback roller coaster
that we've been on for three years now. I would
hope you all learned still it would never get any
It can't get any worse.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
In fact, it can't get any worse.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
We should go the complete one hundred and eighty degree
opposite and say it can always get worse, is what
we should be saying.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
Instead. To hear you say this, don't just come.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
Back to the middle.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
The way that we have grown West, I must say,
I feel proud. I'm just proud of your growth and development,
all right, because I remember a time west Man worst.
Speaker 3 (25:45):
Why not pushed a little? You let your intrusive thoughts win.
Just push, push the red button, push the pana button.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
Why not?
Speaker 3 (25:51):
I can't get any worse. Let those intrusive thoughts in no, In.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
Fact, you remember when when policy, I always think back
to Bouncy's last time and the black and goal snapping
that ball over Ben's head, and people heavily settle. We
can't get any worse than that.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
It can't get it.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
And we're like, bro, you realize Marquis Pounce you talking
about he still was a pro Bowl like put even
at that stage, Like it's pounds we're talking about, like,
don't trip.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
And then they were ready to run the next two
guys out of town.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
We like, bro, what what? And that's just the name
of few.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
They're ready to run the next two guys out of time.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
So for me, man, when I look at Calvin, when
I look at Roman, is their confidence absolutely more confidence
in Roman, dude, largely due to the fact of what
we saw Calvin do. Right. We saw Calvin miss his
whole first season right, missed because he had the foot injury.
(26:54):
And then from there we got a chance to see
him have to respond to that adversity. We got a
chance to see him have to come out here where
there was still a lot of speculation on what he is, right.
Is he just a track guy that can run super fast.
Is he just a special teams guy? Is he just
a receiver who can only run vertical routes? That was
(27:18):
kind of the talk surrounding Calvin up until he caught
the seventy or a bomb versus the Raiders in Vegas.
Right then it was quiet, and then he popped up
again at the end of that season, another impressive outing.
Then you fast forward to what this past season. Now,
we saw him doing more than just being the down
(27:38):
the grass guy. We actually saw him making combat catches.
We saw him making catches and surviving big hits as well,
and really becoming more of a polished player, a professional
wide receiver and not just a fast guy that can
run straight. And seeing that development, seeing that growth is
(28:00):
something that inspires me to want to believe more into
a Roman Wilson, because I say to myself, well, hey,
if we just simply make this apples to apples, right,
both missed their first year. The injuries. One guy didn't
even have a chance to practice his first year because
of the injury Calvin Austin. So with Roman Wilson, he
(28:23):
was getting almost like a true red shirt year because
he practiced at times. Last season he just never got
a helmet right, but he practiced at times, and we
know he was on injury reserve for two portions of
that as well. But the thing was it was like, man,
you got more reps in season than Calvin Austen did
(28:45):
at all after that first year. And when I see
how Calvin Austin was able to come back in your
year two and year three. We know every player develops
at different stages, but to me, that does give me
optimism that we are doing a good job of developing
those younger players. We are figuring out ways to have
them receive information, ultimately put it out there on the
(29:07):
field and be productive. So with that being the case,
that is where I think my optimism and a lot
more of my confidence comes for or comes from as
we're talking about Roman Wilson. But it's still hard not
to not to do that that that nice little social
media mean, while I'm holding Calvin Austin and Roman Wilson's
(29:27):
hand and I'm looking back at all Marik Cooper like,
hey you hey, Mari, you're going buy ac we call
your coop.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
Recovering, all right, you finally feel.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
Your wristlerk good. Hey, it's a little different plan opposite
DK Metcalf that it is Kean Coleman and then you
know which was in Buffalo and Cleveland with you know,
I'm just throwing it out there. I just, you know,
with all the respect, but that's kind of why I'm
not right now with it, man. So we will see,
keep an eye on it, keep an eye on We'll see,
(30:02):
but definitely keep an eye on it. Man. But uh,
let's take our final break real quick, man before we
get up out of here. But you right know, to Drie,
don't touch that doubt on Arthur Motes. That's what's the
Euler and this is the Steelers Blitz.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
Is the Steelers Blitz with Wesley Euler and Arthur Motes
on your twenty four to seven Home of the Black
and Gold skn R.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
Well, I know we are sad, all the listeners along
with us as well, because we're down to the final
segment of the Steelers Blitz.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
Fourt to make surely here we'll be back, don't worry
we're not going anywhere.
Speaker 1 (30:48):
But I didn't want to make it sound really sad,
but would that be in the case, it's time to
update our Aaron Rodgers are Aaron Rodgers. Watch cool music.
Give me some coomies, coomies.
Speaker 3 (31:01):
Man. You know, you just want to know, like some
breaking news music.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
You know what I'm saying, Da, That's what I was
looking for. That's what I was looking for, all right.
So on the up date front surrounding Aaron Rodgers, he
still has not signed with the Black and Goal, so
not the best news, but he hasn't signed anywhere else either. Okay. Now,
(31:30):
the reason why I had to say either is this
West Are you ready for this? I know you was
busy out here doing your manly stuff, cutting down trees
and everything over the weekend, but that was the only
thing that took place this weekend. We had an NFL player,
a former Pro Bowl or a former second round draft pick,
a guy that has thrown for over ten thousand y'alls
(31:53):
in his career, sixty plus touchdowns in his career. His
name is Derek Carry. Retired, stepped away permanently from the
game of football. And this is a little bit intriguing,
largely due to the fact that we know the Saints
were one of the teams that were looked at to
be taking a quarterback in the draft because of Derek
(32:15):
Carr being there, but with them being there was more
so to allow you know, that young Ricky a year
or maybe longer to kind of sit and develop behind him.
And we talked about why we felt like that with
them restructuring Derek Carr's contract just what two months ago.
So now with Derek Carr retiring, we get the reports
(32:38):
that a certain team became back interested in maybe you know,
a quarterback by the name of Aaron Rodgers. And I
just you know, I had to ask you your thoughts
on what this could potentially look like if the Saints
were to become you know, players again in you know
this Aaron Rodgers element of it, And do you have
any type of concerns that they could maybe sway his
(32:59):
mind to go in a different direction then Steelers or retirement.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
Possibly.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
I so.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
This type of scenario I think is important, but maybe
not this specific example. And here's what I mean. Here's
what I mean by that. I and and maybe I
am biased, I would say I'd be looking at it
through black and gold glasses. But I guess technically that's
the same color as the Saints, so that could be.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
Well, well, well, if we're black and gold, we're gonna
say they're black and yellow, black and Vegas gold. Or no, nope, nope.
If we're black and gold, they're black and yellow.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
Like you're trying to I want to get involved with.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
I'm out.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
This is my colleague Arthur Nathan the third. Don't don't point,
don't point the angry gold.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
They are black and yellow, is what I'm going to
simply say. Okay, we'll just leave it at that, all.
Speaker 3 (33:56):
Right, Like I if you are Aaron Rodgers and it's
the end of your career and you just had a
very unfortunate achilles injury and then a messy, messy end
to your Jets career, you know, like everyone always laughs,
like you're gonna go ten and seven and go into
the playoffs and and then and and losing the first
(34:17):
round or maybe win one game. If you're Aaron Rodgers
right now, that probably sounds pretty good. Like that's a
much better way to getting back to to be in
where you need to be in your career. And if
you're Aaron Rodgers. I don't know how you could legitimately
look at the Saints, who are new head coach new
era and think like I'm gonna go here and I'm
(34:37):
gonna win double edgit games. I'm gonna have a chance
to get to get into the playoffs and play in
a playoff game, maybe win one or two.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
Like I don't know what Rogers signed with the Jets
though that.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
Is true, but like, and I know we laugh about
the Jets in that sense. Remember that season the Jets
had the reigning offensive and defensive rookie of the years
they had Gary Aaron Rodgers. Come right in here, We're
(35:11):
ready to roll. Just be talking about just stretch that one.
Appreciate that, you know, you know why because I'm in
that division twice a year as well. I'm like bro,
I in no, wait, but I don't. I don't think
it as much as even the most pessimistic Steeler fan,
(35:33):
I think would have a hard time arguing that the
Saints outlook on twenty twenty five was better than the
Pittsburgh Steelers. So from that standpoint, this specifically, I think
unless the Saints were like, hey, we're gonna pay, We're
gonna back up the Brinks truck and you can have
full autonomy over the roster all this different stuff. I
don't know if that's the right fit for Aaron Rodgers
(35:55):
and what he wants or is looking for, at least
in this stage of his career, as much as saying
that out loud makes it sound pretty funny, because who
knows what Aaron Rodgers wants there is looking for at
this stag career. I'm with you, but Motzi, this is
the type of scenario that and I don't want to
wish this evil on anybody, but like if if if
(36:17):
something happens to Matthew Stafford and and you know, all
of a sudden, the Rams are looking for a roster
in a situation that is much better than New Orleans.
If Aaron Rodgers is waiting for something like this, for
another playoff caliber team to have an unfortunate injury or something,
what if something happened to CJ. Stroud, What if something
happened to matt Stafford, What if something All right, I'm
(36:39):
gonna stop there, because again I don't even like putting
those things out into the end of the universe. But
but what if there was a situation like this that happened,
someone ends up retiring, someone's ends up getting hurt, and
all of a sudden, it's a situation situation that's much
better than New Orleans. The longer Aaron Rodgers remains out there,
he's the most viable, sexy, reasonable, you know guy that
(37:03):
a team in this situation might want to sign. That's
the part that worries me is the longer he's out there,
when's the next Derek Carr type of quarterback opening happened.
Speaker 1 (37:14):
We're on the same page with that, but due to
the fact that we don't truly know what Aaron Rodgers
wants because he hasn't really come out and say that,
I had to even rebuttal the marks that you were
making about why he would want to come to us,
because I'm like, he could simply say he could simply
say this, New Orleans is in a dome, so I
(37:35):
don't have to deal with the conditions. So I know
my football is gonna look good. Eight games off the season,
the NFC South, Yeah, I got office a head coach.
The division in which I'm putting is a lot more
friendly to me than that AFC Easton. For definitely, that
AFC North, you know what the AFC North is? And
also who are the quarterbacks in the NFC South? Do
(37:57):
you remember the quarterbacks in NFC South?
Speaker 3 (37:58):
Who's a Carner, Baker Mayfield, Michael Pennix and Bryce Young?
Speaker 1 (38:02):
And who are the quarterbacks in the AFC North.
Speaker 3 (38:06):
That would be Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
Two time MVP Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
Right, Joe Burrow just put up like like very rare numbers.
Joe Burrow, the Browns they got five studs, so.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
You got five different news. Are you a Shadoor guy,
You're a Dylan Gable guy? You a Kenny two gloves guy?
Are you a Joe Flack? Or you like get old
and established? Like are you are you under the optimistic?
The road the journey the journey back from the double Akilles,
Like it's a lot of storylines over there.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
Right, they figure it out. They figure it you know,
they always they always do.
Speaker 1 (38:41):
But but the thing is this though, West's like, if
you're Aaron Rodgers, do you want to go into a
division where you're the clear cut number three quarterback at
this stage? Or do you go into a division where
you're a debatable number one quarterback Between him and Baker Mayfield.
It's people that still would prefer his style because it's
a little less reckles than Baker Mayfield. I might can
(39:03):
count on my hand how many people are taking Aaron
Rodgers over Lamar Jackson, Oh, Joe over or Joe Burrow
at this stage, like.
Speaker 3 (39:10):
And if they need to be, and.
Speaker 1 (39:12):
We're gonna get tested, We're gonna get attested. We're calling
the people a sat We're like, Yo, did you really
say that with conviction?
Speaker 3 (39:19):
Like you really believe that with No, we're not talking
about Rodgers five years ago.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
We're talking about I don't want the history class. I'm
talking about May five talking to a game.
Speaker 3 (39:30):
Yeah, you gotta go win a game this weekend.
Speaker 1 (39:32):
Yeah, you're not taking Rogers over Lamar or Joe. So
to me, those are the things that I say, Yeah,
we can talk about non ten wins if it's easy,
but we know who he has to deal with in
this division. Not saying that his confidence is anything lacking,
but he has not statistically performed on those guys level
(39:52):
in the past three years, and those dudes are like,
they're only getting better. So that's the part where I
do look at Rogers specifically and when that Saint situation
popped up, not only are those rebels in it, but
also which place is gonna have more pressure to perform?
You just came from New York, right, really Jersey. But
(40:14):
you know that media, how big and how crazy and
that just was the past two years and how many
people got fired in the process of that as well. Yeah,
is he more likely to deal with another situation like
that type of pressure in Pittsburgh, Oh, New Orleans, where
(40:34):
it's an expectation to get it done right, where we're saying, hey,
it's Super Bowl or bus ten wins with the fans
say I'd rather suck than have ten wins and lose
in the first round of the playoffs. I'd rather win.
I'd rather win three games. Mm hmm. He wanted to
sign up for that at this at his big age hmmm.
(41:03):
And you're getting paid.
Speaker 3 (41:04):
Less m.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
Yeah. Us, this is what happens when Aaron Rodgers takes
this long to make a decision. Ladies and gentlemen, don't
get mad with us. If you're listening right now, all
the listeners out there, we do appreciate each and everyone, y'all,
and the more y'all tweet us. The more. We can
name drop you because we name drop a lot of y'all,
but we need to name drop more y'all because we
(41:29):
know it's a lot more y'all. But y'all got to
actually interact with us more frequently to let us notice.
All right, but there's definitely one of the ones right here, Baby,
what happens question than answers? Maybe next time when we
when we record, you know, we'll have an answer. I'm
(41:49):
just hopeful that we'll get this answer before these shows
start turning back live, okay, because we're flirting with that
timeframe and I'm just kind of like, bro, if we
get bag live, we still don't have a contract or
no Aaron Rodgers' decision for twenty twenty five employment Bruh,
what are we doing? What are we doing? Are we doing? Okay?
(42:13):
So that's where I met with this day man, That
is where I met with it. But would that being
the case, how are you feeling?
Speaker 3 (42:20):
You good? I'm good.
Speaker 1 (42:22):
You're gonna you're gonna wish any you know, happy happy
hypotheticals back out there, since you didn't give us a
couple negative hypotheticals on the on the back of this
Day man, if that guy get heard of this guy
heard if that guy get hurt, give us, give us
pot hypothetical before we get up out of here.
Speaker 3 (42:36):
Man, here's a happy hypothetical. NFL schedule release is uh
just uh is on the horizon here.
Speaker 1 (42:46):
This is true Wednesday night, Wednesday evening. Yep.
Speaker 3 (42:51):
So you know we're gonna get through that. That'll give
us a nice content for the shows for the rest
of the week.
Speaker 1 (42:57):
Oh yeah, color cut and clarity on the order of
opera baby, you know that.
Speaker 3 (43:01):
And then and then by that time Aaron Rodgers will
be ready to make his decision, and that'll be the
perfect kind of content calendar we need to lead us
through the month of May.
Speaker 1 (43:13):
I would actually enjoy that. I would thoroughly enjoy that.
In the stars, now, that's how you end the show
with some positivity. So you know what, I'm not gonna
mess with it anymore. Shout out two the producer tonight,
because the producer had us extra chrispy. I'm talking about
the one and only Wesley that onan you.
Speaker 3 (43:37):
Well, thank you, thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (43:39):
Oh hey, no ovis I see now power Grid, Maga Watts.
You know I appreciate you greatly. We both do, because
there is no show without you, YenS and all of
y'alll's all right, but more importantly, man, let me spend
the block one final time and give a big time
kudos to the one and only man on the opposite
side of microphone and one and all the Westley.
Speaker 3 (44:03):
Go Ears.
Speaker 1 (44:06):
And if that be in the case, you already know
where to find us on your twenty four to seven
home of the Black and the Gold.
Speaker 3 (44:17):
It's Steelers Nation Radio on the Steelers Audio Network.
Speaker 1 (44:21):
Yes, indeed,
