Speaker 1 (00:00):
Kueler and Motes are on the air. This is the
Steelers Blitz on your twenty four to seven home of
the Black and Gold s n R Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Good afternoon, Steeler Nation. How we do it?
Speaker 3 (00:22):
I'll feeling peachey king.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Well, that's good me too. Maybe I don't know something
like that. I'll go with it. It is our number
two of these, let's hear on Steelers Nation Radio on
the Steelers Audio Network having a little fun on the
Friday Show. One last piece of news from these NFL
(00:44):
owners meetings this week in Minnesota that we have to
get to and that is Olympic flag football. We discussed
this earlier in the week twenty twenty eight. Flag football
is coming as a sanctioned sport in the Summer Olympic,
and the NFL owners were going to vote to approve
or disapprove player participation. I don't think I need to,
(01:11):
Like you all know how this works. The Summer Olympics happened,
and Team USA basketball is guys from the NBA for
the most part. Maybe you know, you get maybe one
or two occasionally they're still in college, but usually almost
always guys from the NBA. The last couple of Winter Olympics,
NHL players have not been allowed in the Olympics because
there was a disagreement between the IOC and the NHL.
(01:34):
But starting in twenty twenty six, NHL players will be
back in the Olympics. And we obviously all remember in
the past, you know, some of the USA Canada games,
you know, seeing guys like you know, Lemieux and Crosby
and Yager and some of these guys have a lot
of success in the Olympics. Same kind of thing now
(01:54):
with the NFL players having an opportunity to do so
when flag football comes to the Olympics the summer Games
in twenty twenty eight, and the NFL owners did vote
to approve player participation go which is awesome and brings
about a lot of talking points here that we're going
to get into. But Motzi, before we get into that,
(02:17):
I do think some of the parameters are important to note,
certainly most at the forefront. I think that Olympic teams
can only have one player per NFL roster, so you
couldn't have Mahomes and Kelsey, you know what I mean
type thing, one player per team, per the standards for
(02:40):
health and safety, per the agreement to allow that. Now,
this is not pressing momentarily, it's for the twenty twenty
eight Summer Olympics that's still three years away. But I
tell you what, Arthur motes, this is, like I said,
a lot of fun to imagine and a lot of
fun to discuss, a specially now that I mean, this
(03:01):
is real, this is happening. We are going to have
NFL players in the Olympics in just a few years.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
I'm excited for it. Man.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
I think that this is something that us as.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Football players, we've always wanted to be a part of
the Olympics in some capacity. I mean, you've heard the
Julian Edamans of the world, Nate Ebers I believe or
I believe that his name was of the world, because
we feel like we're just as times and just as
athletic as the hoopers that gets represent their country for
their sport. Heck, even when you look at baseball players,
(03:30):
even they get some form of being able to play
and represent their country soccer as well, man boxers, wrestlers,
all these other sports.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
And we were always told that due to.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
The you know, just cost barriers of equipment, not every
country influenced football histories and why soccer is so big
because it doesn't cost a lot to create it. So
that's why you can be anywhere in the world and
create soccer. And that's why you see a lot more
you know, worldwide, why soccer is a little bit more popular
else where, whereas in here we're like, yeah, it's cool,
(04:03):
but we don't even don't care about all that like that, Bro,
you know this, So to me, man, it's like, man,
we finally get some version of that. Now, it's still
not the true traditional sense of football, and there's still
some questions in terms of some of the just rules.
And what I mean is this, there are two forms
(04:23):
or multiple forms of like flag football. You got like
what you see with your high school athletes, your football
like D one football players that get ready to go
to college, they play flag football and it is essentially
seven on seven like what you see when you go
to training camp for the Steelers, and it's in between
them team periods where there's no d line, no contact,
(04:44):
they're just throwing with coverage. And then you have what
is the modern flag football rules where you have a
designated blitzer about seven yards off, you have you know,
certain rush rules, also certain latter rules and beings along
those natures, along with what you do skill wise in
(05:04):
terms of you know, lowering your level, swiveling your hips
certain ways. So that's the part also for me that
you know, I want to know a little bit more about.
But as a whole, if you're an NFL player, man,
this is a great opportunity for you. It's not easy
because you're not just competing with NFL players, you're competing.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
With real flag football people that do this for a living.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
I got former college teammates that have been playing flag football,
traveling the world for the past five years, playing flag
football etels all the time. Man. It sounds easy until
you get out here. You see that this is not
what you assume it is. So that's the part where
I'm like, it's a great opportunity, but you also have
to understand what you are committing to and also what
(05:48):
you're representing, because this is bigger than any NFL show.
We're talking about representing that country, representing that red, white
of blue, regardless of your political stances as players. Man,
and we understand that part. It's like we all know
the dream team, we all wanted to be Michael Jordan.
We all saw Lebron James go on that boat across
that water to France, standing up there looking like Captain
(06:11):
Captain America.
Speaker 4 (06:11):
You know what I'm saying. We all know what that
looks like.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
You know how jacked up when there's USA Hockey tournaments.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Bro. You see, Man, we bought all this USA Hockey
or USA basketball, USA anything because it's America. And that's
the way that we say about sports. We say, man,
this is why I love sports, because it doesn't matter
your race, color, or created, doesn't matter your financial situation,
it doesn't matter about anything. When it's time to ball,
it's time to ball. And I have some of the
(06:40):
best relationships with people that I would have never dreamed
of interacting with solely due to the sport. So when
I think of this opportunity for the NFL players, man,
I am super excited for them, and I just hope
they take it serious, man, And I'm sure they will.
I'm definitely sure. I mean, because roster too big. You
got fifty three, heck, no ninety guys on the NFL roster.
(07:01):
At times, them dudes are going to be trying to
show that they are the best at that, but at
the same time, you gonna have some collegiate athletes out there. Yeah,
you can have some some some UFL athletes out there
that are also gonna be saying to hey, let's see
you you do all that with pads on when these
pasts come off, let's seem and that's the part.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
That's gonna be man like.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
It is, it's and it will be five on five.
I wanted to make sure I pulled this Olympic flag
football format for the twenty twenty eight Summer Games in
Los Angeles, California, United States of America. Which adds a
fun angle to this is listen, listen.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
I wonder if it wouldn't have been in America though,
but this is the I wonder if it wouldn't have
been in LA, would they have proved it?
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Maybe they would have waited till the next year, you
know what I'm saying, America, so they moment marketing and yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
You control it better. You can control it on USO.
You know that.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
And it's in LA where you already have major NFL
teams there that.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
I kind of feel bad for some of these other countries.
Not only are they with the absolute hands from US
but they're also gonna be on. They're gonna we're gonna
have the home crowd advantage here as well too.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
There we sit up. This is in LA.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
Like, yeah, bro, they are cooked.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
With them cocky America. Yeah, bou like this this ain't soccer.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
This real football.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
This would be like if you took a bunch of
dudes from like Jamaica to to Canada to play ice hockey.
I mean, good.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
Luck, goode. You're like, look, y'all might figure it out,
y'all might surprise us all.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
It's sports. Crazy things happen.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
But we gotta see this, man, we gotta see this way.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
So the Olympic flag football format for the twenty twenty
eight summer games in LA five on five game on
a seventy by twenty five yard field. Each team has
a roster of ten players. Forty minute long games divided
into twenty minute halves, so it's two twenty minute halves,
(09:04):
almost basketball kind of in that way.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
I mean that's flag football though. Flag football is our
case that is up and down, and.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
You have four downs to reach midfield, and then you
can get four down the first touchdown, so you can
get one first down at midfield kind of the rules
and the parameters around and that.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
So they're giving you more flag rules than seven on
seven rules, which is good, but I gotta see some
more because that's that's still blending ish, still blended a
little bit, it is.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
And even like even as you mentioned, seven on seven
would be more translatable because these guys on these guys
are now since high school, play seven on seven, right,
five on five. So this is a completely different type
of football.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, I mean. And then the other part
is you said it's ten guys on the roster. Are
guys going both ways?
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Oh? Now that's a very interesting conversation.
Speaker 4 (10:03):
I'm just doing simple math.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
Yeah, I mean, I think I think it was gonna
be a quarterback, right.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
I was gonna say, like, ideally, I think you would
like to have one quarterback specialist who's just your quarterback.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
Okay, so now I'm working with nine guys.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
Yeah. If you I'll tell you this, if you're just
gonna play one way, you better, I mean, you better
be a stud just playing one way.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
But how much does that go into your roster formation?
Speaker 2 (10:35):
I e.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
Justin Jefferson, heck of a wide receiver, who is he guarding?
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Sure?
Speaker 4 (10:40):
Or those are the questions, you know what I mean,
Like Tyreek Kills.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
Someone could someone like trans Hunter just absolutely dominate this thing.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
I think he does.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
I think he has the at least free worcords that
leg up because he's already proven they could play both
sides and do it at a high level. I think
from there you start looking at guys like Cooper Degen.
You start looking at those dual sport athletes. Those dudes,
they look like they play multiple things. Man.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
But that's the part where I'm like.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
There's a lot of fun like avenues to go with this,
because we would simply assume that, Okay, if I want
a dynamic running back, gets Squon. But this aquon also
have to be my guy who's guarding somebody as well,
because that's gonna be a little bit different, you know
what I mean.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
I don't want to get fully into this because I
wanted to save this for the next segment.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
You know, I'm excited about it.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
Let me, I'm gonna tease it a little bit here
and then we'll so Originally, right before you and I
went on air, I just threw together five names. Okay,
let's go, let's go. But like for example, I don't know,
this might be more fun to come up with your
ten because then you could see how you're so like.
For example, what I did was, I did I did
(11:49):
a I did in my mind quarterback, running back slash linebacker,
two wide receiver slash dbs, and then I called them
the prime play. I put Travis Hunter Junior as one
of my five if you like the position I called
him prom but like I had Bjon Robinson as my
running back linebacker. Mm hmm, but maybe if maybe I
(12:13):
mean it doesn't sound too bad, right, but.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
The running back part, but I don't like him a
linebacker but I don't.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
But now maybe that now that conversation definitely, if I'm
just making a list of ten, maybe I probably don't
have I don't think.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
I think if if he's your running back linebacker, he
might be matched up with a kelsey or move if
I'm saying, hey, you're my tight en option, because I
went and went beyond to have the guard my receiver
receiver option.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
So now I still feel like so that was kind.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Of my mind originally when I was just coming up
with five, was like, what if it's a tight end
or something. But then I'm like, okay, but then Kelsey
or Mouth is gonna have to cover Bijeon when I have.
But again, none of that really matters because you're gonna
have ten guys on the roster. I should have thought
about that part before.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
But then there's also parts where this was I mean,
like I said, I called the girls Flag Football Championship
this weekend, eh saying idea, you still can implement strategy.
One team implemented a man demand single high safety strategy.
The other implemented a three high safety and ran zone
concept strategy. Both work. It just depends on what you're
(13:15):
trying to do. It isn't a cookie cutter. So it's like,
if you want to go for the speed and the
loose development, then yeah, you go, Bijo. If you're trying
to go with the big size element, get me DK
out there, and I'm gonna say you're a running back. Shit,
you might running back receiver. Combo, man, how about that?
Because anything that I'm gonna do to get beyond the
ball can do the same thing to get you the ball.
But I also go down the grass t but I
put you in safety or something, know what I mean.
(13:36):
Like that's just the difference of philosophies. But I think
that's the fun part about it, and because they might
have to play on both sides of the ball, we
really got to consider, all right, man, do you mind,
Derek Henry, what's your value in this?
Speaker 4 (13:52):
You know, like that's yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
But if we're just saying who's the best running back
in the league right now, it's gonna be say quantity,
Derek Henry. In the conversation. That's the other part where
you're just like, you gotta really kind of look at
how their skill set would translate to this element, and
knowing that it's only gonna be five on five, we're
talking a lot more space. Mm.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
This is interesting. All right, here's what we're gonna do.
We're gonna take a break. When we come back here,
we're gonna kick around. I've got some names ten I
just added a couple of my lists. Let's see what
a ten man NFL do. And reminder one guy per
team as well too, obviously very big part of that
as well. Well. We'll continue to talk about this a
little bit because it's the off season and because it's
(14:42):
a fun topic. When we return on that, why let
us let us know who who your ten would be
as well to you know where to get at us
if you want to get involved. The Steelers Blitz on
Steelers Nation Radio on the Steelers Audio Network.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
This is the Steelers Blitz. Swift Wesley Huler and Arthur
Mose on your twenty four seven home of the Black
and Gold as skin are all.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
Right, Arthur Mots, let's have some fun this conversation here,
of which ten NFL players would you take the Olympics.
We're gonna do it as if the Olympics were this summer,
not in twenty twenty eight, because obviously that bet we're
not talking about who we'd taken three years. That's too
hard to project right now. There will probably be some guys, obviously,
there will be guys that we've never really heard of,
(15:34):
or maybe just freshman or sophomores or juniors or something
in college that will be on these teams or heavy
in these conversations. But this kind of reminds me of
one of the first I think it was maybe the
first offseason that you and I were doing a show
together and you had a celebrity dodgeball charity thing with
Santonio Holmes Shout in Time and along with Brian Baco.
(15:57):
We drafted our all NFL dodgeball teams.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
Now that that was like our first time having those
of the first one seeing back Oh yeah, yeah, down on.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
The side man Flower with them. Because seriously doing twenty
minutes on your All NFL.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
Which was a lot.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
Of fun because during the those are the type of
things that we like to do here. So in that
vein Arthur Motes, I got some names here for your
ten man United States Olympic flag football team. Let's say
if it was happening this July and August. Oh, I
didn't think about that too, because it will kind of
(16:36):
be a little bit during training camp.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Yeah, during well that's what I don't know if you
saw where they said that they the the NFL are
going to allow like certain roster exemptions if guys get hurt.
They'll add a certain salary cap exemptions, because you're talking
about potentially your thirty forty million dollars players being gone
and if they get hurt doing that time, for what
that does to your roster doing that time. They also
(16:58):
said that they are looking they'll work with the Olympics
in terms of who's running the flag football to make
it where scheduling wise, it doesn't affect them too much
to where they can't compete normally. That was one of
the things that they talked about, but they said that
they understand and that was also why it's just one
(17:19):
player per roster that's going and you just kind of
understand what it is if you're that person. They said
that they'll have like certain exemptions for them, the NFLPA,
they said, the nfl PA, NFL and it was somebody
else they said. They all had to like still agree
on some of those little things.
Speaker 4 (17:36):
No different.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
They also had like recroppments for the field with the
playing conditions. They were like, it needs to meet the
minimum NFL standards because once again health and safety. It's like, man,
these dudes are worth too much.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
You can't.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
Just think about when we talk about some Olympics, most
Olympians don't make the type of money that the professional.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
Football players are making.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
Correct for every use I can tell you about these
other guys that are champions that don't make half of that.
You're like, oh, so that's the part that the NFL
is trying to make sure that they're protecting their assets
as well, because we know our brand, our game and
you know just how lucrative this business is.
Speaker 4 (18:17):
It's a lot of money. And this I'm surprised.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
I'm I'm I was partly surprised, but at the same
time because the Olympics, I understand why they approved it,
but typically the NFL. I mean, like I said, in
every contract, so you sign a contract, it has clauses
in their conduct detrimental. If you get hurt snowboarding, scott dives,
playing basketball, riding your bike. Heck, you ride a roller
(18:40):
coaster and you get hurt on a roller coaster, your
contract is null and void. That's the reality of it.
Dudes get hurt training. You could be training for your sport,
but because this is not a mandatory function that you
are part of while you're training, if you get hurt,
you do not get your contract. Your contract is no
void and they are legally within their rights. And I've
(19:02):
seen it happen if you're not the one hundred million
dollar guy and you get hurt and it's not at
the facility. Oh yeah, And that was part of I mean,
cost efishent but also I was trying to be smart.
That's why I stay year round wherever I played at
because hey, if I'm gonna get hurt practicing and training,
(19:24):
and you're telling me now that if I get hurt
running these same forty yard dashes that you wanted me
to run at your facility, but if I ran them
at home and I get hurt, oh, now I'm gonna
lose all this money. I was like, yo, hey, look
you're gonna be You're around Buffalonians, you're around Pittsburghans. All right,
then we're gonna make it work. Get ready for winter,
all right, because it's not worth it. But to see
(19:44):
that the NFL, for this specific thing, they are saying
that this is the exception. I do like that. But
I do also like the fact that they're gonna make
sure conditions wise that the guys are still going to
be protected.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
And again, like I just told you in the last segment,
like the NHL has not allowed its players to participate
in the last two Olympics. That's been a it's a
big controversy in the hockey. I mean, I realized, it's
it's hockey. It's not it's not it's not the NFL,
you know what I mean. But it was like a
big controversy obviously, but.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
There was the reason was behind that.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
A lot of different things. It's a little different for
the NHL because they have to actually pause their season for.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
Two and a half breaks.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
So you know, you send ten percent of your league
to the Olympics, but then all stars have to sit
around for two and a half. Well, you don't have
an All Star game all that stuff, right.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
I did not realize that.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
Yeah, so that's I think that that's the biggest part
is the NHL has to shut their season.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
NFL, this is going to be on the front of
this season. And if one of the chosen few, if
you're one of the chosen few, though, you're like, hey, bro,
it is right the training camp, man, get right about it.
That being happened in the week three.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
You good, we find we'll make it work. So in
that spirit and another like one of the NHL's talking
points too, was always like, we don't profit off of it, right,
it's not our tournament. We don't control it. But I
think that's pretty short sighted personally, But that's.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
It, and that's what we say. That's what we say
about the Olympics. Man, It's like, yeah, we're not. At
least from my perspective, it's never been about the any
compensation for it. It's simply I want to represent my
country get a medal Olympics. Man. I literally want to
just prove that I am the best in the world
at this and I'm doing it with the red white
I'm blue on me man.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
Like I said, we all want that moment.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
And when Jordan put that flag over his shoulder, man
walked with that gold medal on his chest, I'm like, bro,
since as a kid, I wanted that, that's the moment.
It's like, man, championship and any level that is awesome,
but we're talking about an Olympic gold medal. Man. We
think back to the Jesse Owens of the world. We think, like,
think about all the the Michael Johnson's of the world, right,
(21:47):
all these Olympians that we think of. It's like, Man,
as a kid, you're like, yo, you dream for that
and you just never get that opportunity because traditional football,
like we talked about, So that's also like excited. I'm like, man,
let's go like, you're gonna have a chance to say, Yo,
I want the Olympic medal. I competed for Olympic medal.
I competed for it. Now it's not true football. We
(22:09):
get that it's not true football, but still no different
than when you see those young ladies that don't make
Team USA five on five they played the three on
three and that medal still hit the same way. Why
because it's gold medal for the Because the Olympics. It's
the Olympics. What are we talking about?
Speaker 4 (22:26):
Hey, man, oh your Olympic medals for three on three?
Speaker 3 (22:28):
I don't care about that. Oh yeah you do. It's
Olympic gold medal.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Bro.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
It does not matter. It's gold medal. Bro. We could
be fencing. Heck, we was looking at how cool the
shooters were when they had the shooting competition. Look how
cool the shooter is.
Speaker 4 (22:40):
Why because the Olympics.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
Man, I'm completely with you. I'm completely with you. I would,
in fact, I think I would pay to participate in
the Olympics.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
What if they could, man, I wish they would have
been like, Yo, both need a registration.
Speaker 4 (23:01):
You gotta pay this for the opportunity.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Hey, look take it out the check direct d duck
coach directly, the same way if I was gonna get
find you, was gonna direct the duck cheat the same way.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
I want the opportunity. I want the opportunity.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Arthur Motes. One thing that I wanted to clarify real
quick is are we going to need a specialist in
this five on five flag football? Do we need a
kick her?
Speaker 3 (23:25):
Is there any I've never seen kicking in flag foot
because the ball testing ground, the ball plays dead.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
Okay that's what I thought. Yeah, I didn't think so,
but I wanted to make sure. Yeah, okay, right.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
Now I have do we get any clarity on this?
Like do you I will look into that later. In
terms of the logistic do you actually have to have
a center to snapper and stuff, because I know in
regular flag it's.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
Like you have the snapper, but then they'll go out
and run railer they get active.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
Yeah, yeah, they need somebody to get active. Come yes, yes?
Speaker 3 (23:57):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Uh No lineman or blocking center snaps the ball and
then automatically becomes a receiver. All forms of contact are forbidden.
Any attempt of block or shield an opponent is a penalty.
Speaker 4 (24:07):
Perfect.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
We already talked about the first down rules and everything.
A no run zone pretense prevents teams from conducting run plays,
while in no run zones, teams cannot run the ball
in any fashion and then Blitzer rules. Defenders who blitz
the line of scrimmage must line up at least seven
(24:29):
yards behind seven my self identified by raise your.
Speaker 3 (24:35):
Hand ahead of time. Yeah, raise your hand ahead of time.
I love it.
Speaker 2 (24:39):
I like it. So we're learning more and more about this.
Speaker 4 (24:41):
So this is my okay, So it's true flat football rules.
That's perfect with just five players. Yeah, I love it.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
Then let's go now, no the rules, no, no to operate,
let's do it.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
I got nine names that I came up with here
pretty hastily. Okay, because I'll think of the tenth as
we discussed this.
Speaker 4 (24:56):
Oh, okay, where do you do?
Speaker 2 (24:59):
You do?
Speaker 1 (25:00):
You do?
Speaker 2 (25:00):
You want me to run through my list? Do you
want to go position? But discuss it? How you want
to do this?
Speaker 4 (25:04):
Sure?
Speaker 3 (25:05):
I mean, man is Dylan's choice? Man, go go for it?
He can't.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
Yeah, you're right. It is a Thursday, right?
Speaker 3 (25:10):
Or what are we talking about? Man?
Speaker 2 (25:12):
I'm steering this ship. Let's start. Let's start with again.
So I think the easiest decision.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
You want to start a quarterback? Go ahead, man, I
know you want to start quarterback ahead.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
I'm taking a quarterback specialist who's just gonna be my
quarterback and he's barring a bunch of injuries, he ain't
gonna do anything else. I'm give me Lamar Jackson, Like,
what what are we talking about here? I mean, the
the combination of what he can do with his arm
and with his legs. I just on a a what's
going to be a wide open football field that only
(25:44):
has I mean, I know it's a condensed football field
as well too, but just at five on five, what
he can do with his legs, with his arm, with
his ability to make the decision whether to throw or run. Man,
I think you could argue that Lamar Jackson might be
like one of the best ever to do this.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
Now with that though, why are you just minimizing him
to just offense? I don't agree with you with that
pot I.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
Don't want him to get tired out, all right, I
don't want him.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
Well, what do you like? It's flat football and say
forty minute game? What are we talking about, bro? Lamar
Jackson is playing, He's not coming off the field, Like what,
That's fine? Why wouldn't I have my one of my
best players out there because he's also gonna be one
of those guys that can also go on the other side.
Of the field, and he's athletic enough and has the
size to actually match up with some of these people,
(26:29):
way more than some of these little guys we're gonna
bring up. Man, I'm not minimiz. That's your list though,
that's your side. Lamar's playing both ways on my team. Okay,
he's only playing on offense to your team. He put
on both ways on my tap.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
Everyone some extent is probably gonna have to play a
little bit of both ways here out.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
No, no, no, no, no, no, I'm saying, Lamar Jackson is my
first round draftick. There's gonna be playing both ways. That's
what I'm saying. Like it ain't a hey he might,
he might. No, no, no, You're starting at quarterback and you're
also started at safety. Like it is that simple. Like
you're my quarterback and you're my safety, and if they
put anything up there, I know you're gonna be the
fastest dude going silent. This island back there. Anyways, you're
playing safety, you're playing quarterback. A court not gonna look
(27:06):
you off. He gonna fool you. Really, come on, man.
Speaker 2 (27:09):
Yeah yeah, that one. That was the first name I
wrote down on my list was just Lamar that was a.
That was a that was a pretty easy one. I'm
I'm gonna make a I'm gonna make a switch. I'm
going to change my mind. I mentioned Bejon Robinson earlier.
Speaker 3 (27:24):
Okay, okay, give me.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Jamiir Gibbs actually now, but now that I think about this,
I believe he was. He was top three out of
second or third in the NFL and receiving yards for
a running back, incredibly twitchy. I like the skill set
of what I can do with the Jamiir Gibbs on
both sides of the ball.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Okay, okay, I like it. I like it man for me, Man,
I'm James Cook. He has size and also elite level
receiving ability. Yeah, I'm going with him most definitely, and
you're not running by him. And even if you are
a little bit faster than he actually has good length
in terms of his height. So now I feel like
if you try to throw anything up top, one on
will rouse he going up top with you. He's fast
(28:06):
enough any like I said, long enough arms, So I
like him for mine, but let's go Jamiri gives his
most definitely up a.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
Bit, he'd be a problem.
Speaker 4 (28:15):
Yeah, I was like, because if not gives I like
the sa Quan element of it.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
As well, totally.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
I just I don't know what that's gonna look like
in this flag scenario, because I.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
Still he's twitchy, no doubt he's twitchy for a physical.
Speaker 3 (28:32):
Guy, right, but his physicality makes his twitchy so much
more scarier because of the physicality. Whereas we gives you like, Bro,
you ain't thinking that, You're thinking he's going to go
He's about to say, sonic, you know what this is? Man?
Speaker 2 (28:45):
Uh. The another name that I wrote down very quickly
on my list, I think probably the second name on
here was Justin Jefferson. Okay, just a just an absolute
freak who has been involved with flag football and and
and part of the kind of NFL's involvement to this point.
So I think he's going to really understand what he's
(29:05):
doing out there and the nuances and the differences in
the games.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
I mean, he's the ambassador of it in real life.
He will probably be out there. But I'm taking Travis
Hunter over him any day of the week. It's no
debate about it. I didn't even think of it, which
because you want to talk, you want to talk about receiver.
It's cool but it's just the order of operations. I
don't even like that you waited that long sad name.
I'm like, bro, how many are Gon name? When you
get a Chavis hundred Travis Hun be with my running back, like, yeah,
(29:30):
he's gonna be.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
My prime on the depth charge. Okay he's not.
Speaker 4 (29:37):
Yeah he's playing. Well that's cause Lamar is my prod.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
I could dig it.
Speaker 4 (29:41):
I could dig it you like that.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
I invented a position for you.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
I was like, and I've never heard that. Probably was like,
I've never heard that. You just you just play Travis Hunter.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
You get it, you get it, you get Let's go
get a couple more of these and then we'll go
to break and finish this out to close down the
show on the other side. So Jamar Chase was another
name that I wrote that absolutely the athleticism, like some of.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
These guys, he's built for this.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
It's ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (30:15):
He's built that.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
That's like, that's like imagine a prime Russell Westbrook playing serious,
Like you know what I.
Speaker 4 (30:23):
Mean, you are designed for this ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
Just ridiculous, like a like a prime Dereck Rose playing
in a free on three basketball league.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
But you got Derek Rose at a one on one competition, like, hey, bro,
you shure you want that? That's what you gotta stop.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
All right, Let's see here, that's space.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
Out there, that feel that's way too wear space for
that field. What you buy, Chase bro, Holy spokes, all
you make is want to do missed. That's the other
part too, And and flag one guy missed. These are
we're not talking about reg like yo, he's a And
it's the other part too. When we talk some of
the UFL got, some of the collegiate guys, or even
some of the guys that truly play professional flag football.
(31:08):
We're not taking away from the athleticison. We're not taking
away from their skill. But the difference is this. We
both can be able to make the same move. But
if you're making that move and when you hit the
go fast button, your go fast is four seven five
and my go fast is four or five two. My
go fast is four three to two. I don't care
what you say. You aren't keeping up with that. And
(31:33):
that's what we're talking about with these type of NFL athletes,
the Lamar Jackson's of the world. You blitzed cool, right,
you said seven yards off you gotta indicated ahead of time,
so Lamar knows you're coming from there. I got the
option to throw it right. But if I make you
miss and I take off, good luck. You know what Lamar.
Lamar isn't regular people fast. He's fast amongst the elite
(31:56):
people like the one percent is say you you're when.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
There's twenty two guys on the field and they're all
wearing pads and helmets, yeah, he's. And when there's ten
guys and they're not.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
Wearing anybody and you're like broke, And I look at
Travis hunder to the same way. I'm like, you've seen Travis sunny.
Travis Hoad looks like lightning out there when he's running.
It's re lightless. It's relightless.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
Yeah. So imagine those guys with all that space and
no pads. Yeah, insane. Okay, so that's five so far.
Let's take us let's take our last break here, we'll
come up with five more on the other side. I
gotta get some love to some of these guys that
I'm gonna talk.
Speaker 4 (32:32):
I know you only care about offensive dudes.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
I was about to say no, no, no, no, no, no, you say
Travis Hunner that doesn't count. That does not count. We're
talking about defenders. You talk well, you talk about all
offensive guys. You talk about all I want jumping in
this quarterback of the day, this receiver him and is
running back. So defense don't matter. We ain't got nobody
on defense that can go both ways. Nobody that on
defense can be more impactful. That's just crazy to me.
(32:56):
I don't agree with your thought process. That's just crazy.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
I'm just trying to keep this from looking like an
army Navy game.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
Okay, nah man, no, no, no, no, no, no no. You
wanted to be so one side that we don't stop
to anybody. You can have Jamar Chase out here covering people. Man,
we got Lamar out here covering people. We got all
these officers going to cover people. All right, it sounds good.
Where's Michael Parsons that I'm tidio?
Speaker 2 (33:14):
Nonsense, nonsense, I got I got some I got some
defensive names for you when we return on the other side.
Speaker 3 (33:20):
All right.
Speaker 4 (33:20):
I just had to get that up.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
I couldn't go to break and let you let you
not talk about a single defender's name. No, I can't
hitch got name somebody, all right.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
We'll name a couple more when we return. Close this
thing down. On the other side, West Hueler, Arthur Motes,
It's the Steelers Blitz.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
He's the Steelers Blitz with Wesley Huler and Arthur Motes
on your twenty four seven Home of the Black and
Gold Skin r final segment.
Speaker 2 (33:56):
Here on the Blitz is we close out the show
as we close out this conversation of all the news
and note worthy results of the NFL owners meetings, and
of course having some fun with this NFL players in
the twenty twenty eight Olympics four flag football. Yeah, it's
Michael Parsons, I mean Kaman. He lines up all over
(34:17):
the field. He's a freaky athlete. He can move in space.
Speaker 4 (34:20):
He played off his high school.
Speaker 3 (34:22):
You know, you don't think he can handle the rock.
You don't think he can he can run with it.
At the same time, that that that seven yard off
the field, that seven yards back off the ball raised
my hand, who do I Who would I rather have
in that position? As much as we love TJ, whytt
we love TJ? Why is a pass rusher right from
the rights, right tack? We're not gonna ever take that
(34:44):
away from TJ. But but what we are saying is
if we're just saying athlete for athlete, though a lot
of people are gonna say the Michael Parsons is the
better athlete, the same way a lot of people say Miles.
Speaker 4 (34:57):
Garrett looks better.
Speaker 3 (34:58):
Right, he passes the eyeball all tests of what a
NFL at rusher looks like.
Speaker 4 (35:03):
When I'm saying that they're better pass.
Speaker 2 (35:06):
Rushers in football, different conversation.
Speaker 3 (35:08):
This is completely different.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
That's why I took Lamar and not Josh.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
What I'm saying, yeah, this is different, different what we're
trying to do right here. Yeah, So that's why I
said like parties because I'm like, I know this is
perfect for this and I need somebody this elite on defense,
but can still get me something on offense. He played
running back, he knows what he's doing, he can catch,
he got a little sum and everybody would get the
(35:33):
ball anyways. You know that.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
So that's six mm hmm. I got three more defensive
names here for you, okay, mm hmm. I want Derwin James, Okay,
I want Fred Werner, and I want Pascertain Junior.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
You see how funny it is, how you'll just like
lump all the defense in there. At one point you
do not care at all about that defense man. He's
just like, yo, I'm just named all three of them
dudes right now.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
Just it out there. Here you go, guys, there you go.
Defense offense.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
Man.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
You was giving me honorable man, he was giving me.
Speaker 3 (36:06):
Hold on, man, let me think this, man.
Speaker 4 (36:08):
I think I want this guvers that guy that is
just defense Z.
Speaker 2 (36:14):
Free man.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
Man.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
I mean, could you imagine could you imagine Derwin James
and in.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
This I'm just saying, I don't know me personally. I'm
not putting Derwin out there. As much as I love Derwin,
I'm not putting them out there. I'm going Jayalen Ramsey.
Jayalen Ramsey to me, is gonna thrive. And not only
is he gonna thrive on defense, he also can go
on offense and cook as well. So as much as
I love the excitement of who can guard the Jamar
chasing space, you know how sexy feels and say, man,
(36:46):
I got a Jayalen Ramsey. It's gonna get me buckets
on defense. And they could turn around on offense and
handle this rock too. That yeah, any gout size on
him to don't forget the size that Yeah, pastor ten.
We're both on the same page with that one. I
like ro Kwan Smith as my inside thought. Fred one
is another option. You can't go wrong either way. Both
of these dudes great athletes, fast ball savvy in terms
(37:06):
of interceptions, right, And that's the word thing that I'll
say with both of those dudes. Man, they're one A,
one B. Which one you like better? Man? But to me, man,
I look at it like that, and I'll just caveat
ro quand a little healthier.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
This is true, This is true, and we got a
ten man roster. We don't want to lose one.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
Along the way, I got talking about the drop off
broke handed.
Speaker 3 (37:28):
All of a sudden, I know, Fred go play. I
know Fred go play with adversity. He gonna play through it.
But I got how for all that? Bro I got
how for that? Listen you see Kyler Murray and cal
Hamlinton talk about playing for South Korea.
Speaker 4 (37:45):
I ain't got time to be playing with you all.
Everybody don't get to play.
Speaker 3 (37:48):
You might be nice. Everybody don't get play out here?
All right?
Speaker 2 (37:51):
Great one, yeah, but.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
He might be playing.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
They say he might play for U for South Korea.
Speaker 3 (37:56):
I'm like, bro, if that's in South Korea, that matches
up just like Lamar, say what we're gonna be able
to talk about Lamar, We're talking about Camry the exact
same way. That is a animal that is a problem,
that is a real life nightmare in flag football.
Speaker 2 (38:08):
Man, they're before we before we before we close this thing.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
N that makes sure my three that name three. I
did certain Ramsey in Rokwan. Yeah, yep, yep.
Speaker 4 (38:22):
And I already had Travison. He's my wide receiver, so.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
Yeah, yeah, he's already. Any glaring names or somebody that
we didn't mention that we're gonna regret, you know, twenty
twenty minutes from now and think, well.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
I think it just depends on what you're I think
it depends on what you're trying to do with your roster.
Are you looking for speed right, are you looking for size?
Because they're both. If we want to talk justin Jefferson,
if we want to talk Jamar Chase, cool, But what
about the elik neighbors of the world. What about the
Brian Thomases of the world. Some might like to say
(38:56):
flowers of the world. Others might like the Nico Collin flavor,
a little bit taller, bigger receiver. Heck, some might like
Kean Coleman in a flag football seting because he's a
dual sport athlete that played collegiate basketball and football. Was
a first round draft pick.
Speaker 4 (39:12):
Like the thirty second overall, thirty third row draft pickscuse
yeah or DK.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
Yeah. You know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (39:17):
Like, it's great to have like Jamar Chase Burners, but
I also want a six foot something monster who can
just go up and.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
Yeah, and then at the same time on defense, and
then on defense, You're not going to just be able
to say, okay, go jump ball because Jamar Chase is
barely six foot It's like, yo, you can still play
zone concerts.
Speaker 4 (39:36):
We saw Richard Sherman make a killing running cover three
as a six to three cornerback, and that looked very
different than Reeves's six foot man demand cornerback, and both
are elite at what they did.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
So when I look at DK, That's what I'm trying
to say, and that's why I was getting on you
at the beginning, like playfully, but like yo, it's all
like offense off of like yo, we are only thinking
like in today's NFL, which we see all the time, right,
everybody wants to go offense, office quarterback, quarterback, and then
you find these defenses, you're like, well, why it don't
look but it's still why isn't so effective?
Speaker 1 (40:11):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (40:11):
Because you can actually stop people and if you know
what you're doing, you can do that.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
Yes, there's gonna be more. One way to win a
flag absolutely just having twitchy, explosive guys on the outside.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
Listen man calling this girls flag football championship. One team
had got to the championship because they were scoring dang
near twenty eight points a game. The other got the
championship because the team hadn't scored on their defense since
the season began. You cat you what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
Yeah, that's aggressive, you see what I mean.
Speaker 3 (40:37):
So it's like those are the type of things that
you get. But when you go out there and you
watch how flag is played with, like now that I
know it's like legit flag rules, it makes sense. You
say it. It's like, yo, you can coach yourself. You
can scheme it up, man, And I've seen it where
if your past rusher is effective enough, I don't care
who your quarterback is you can't get it off and
(40:58):
you don't think Parsons is on your totally get Oh
my gosh, you're not just yeah, it was like you say,
met Crosby, Miles, you might stutter stepped up. Now you
ain't doing that the myco nah stop that Mike is
getting on there with you.
Speaker 2 (41:15):
To bring this back to kind of where we started
with the you know you you joked about with the
not joked joking slash seriously with the toushbush about how
like nobody wants to see rugby scrumbs out there for
for sixty minutes. Like rugby and rugby sevens are two
vastly different sports, like and if if anybody is familiar,
(41:40):
like there's traditional rugby, but then there's rugby sevens, which
is seven on seven rugby, and they are vastly different sports.
Rugby sevens is some of the most electric stuff you'll
ever watch because it's wide open rugby. It's athletic but
it's still physical. And so yeah, this is obviously you.
Speaker 4 (42:00):
Got true traditional rugby.
Speaker 2 (42:02):
Completely different ways, like completely different, and this is gonna
be kind of similar, Like we're gonna be watching and
be like, yeah, this is football, but this is gonna
be way different. It's gonna be fun kind of figuring
this thing out as we get more and more in
tune with it.
Speaker 3 (42:15):
Think of it like you could go play NBA like
two K or you can go play like NBA jams
at the arcade exactly right.
Speaker 4 (42:23):
This is like NBA jams a right, exactly right.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
This was a fun show today. Enjoyed this. This was
a good one with some some fun topics here to
kick around. Good way to UH to end the week.
Speaker 4 (42:37):
Thanks to UH Friday Show Man Friday Shows.
Speaker 2 (42:41):
No, you can never miss a Friday show, and thanks
to the Power Grind the megawatts for rock and rolling
with us and participating UH. And it is always a
big shout out to the best co host in the business,
Arthur Nathan most of the third oh me take care
of everybody. You know what, maybe at some point, if
we have a slow day the rest of the off season,
(43:02):
we'll have to do an all Steelers flag football team.
Speaker 3 (43:05):
At some point, Come on, man, like, who are you
sending from the black and goal across across the country
and across the pond anymore across the country?
Speaker 4 (43:12):
First overall pick, Come on, man.
Speaker 2 (43:14):
Troy Polamo, there is second overall pick. You'll have to
tune in whenever we do it to find out.
Speaker 3 (43:25):
Give me Zach Crazyer. I want Zach Crazy as my guy.
Zach Bishop, I'm just fifty nine and two is always
helping Zach crate absolutely. Answer is Alwayszach Frazer. Our wady
knows this man, Zach Win.
Speaker 2 (43:42):
Take care, everybody, enjoy the weekend. We'll talk to you soon.
There's always you know where to find this. It's on
