(00:21):
When I stopped drinking alcoholjust under seven years ago,
there's something that I wish Iknew, and I'm going to tell you
what that is in this video.
But if I knew this, I wouldhave taken a totally different
approach to stopping drinking.
So if you're trying to stopdrinking right now, or you're at
least questioning yourrelationship with alcohol and
trying to put the piecestogether and really figure out
what the heck is this drug evendoing for me, you're in the
(00:43):
right place, Because there's amistake that not only I made,
but I've seen countless peoplemake.
In fact, this is probably thebiggest mistake I see people
make, and it's going to be thetotal opposite of all the
mainstream advice out there, andI'm almost 100% sure that
you're making it right now.
But now let me get into thismistake, and it all starts with
my 18-year-old brother.
So I'm 32 and have an18-year-old brother.
(01:03):
We have a very big age gap andI love to see it, but he's
getting really interested indigital marketing.
He's been taking a photographycourse, he's about to go to do a
degree and this was a guy thatwasn't doing well with his
academics and over the past yearhe has just made a complete 180
and now he's killing it.
He's on the path to success andI'm just so proud of him.
(01:27):
So he's been dabbling, you know.
He's been making a few videos,he's been taking these really
good pictures and the quality ofhis work just keeps getting
better.
Anyway, this is all going tomake sense and I'm going to show
you how my 18 year old brotheractually holds the key to
stopping drinking.
But he told me he wanted tostart YouTube and immediately
I'm like yes, he wants to startYouTube.
I was, you know, excited, but Ihad to just myself down because
I could sit there and probablytalk about YouTube for 24 hours.
Right, I could just talk aboutit forever.
It's been my full-time thingfor multiple years.
I've made thousands of YouTubevideos, not just on this channel
(01:49):
but a different one as well, and I could educate him to a
very high standard.
But I realized that educationwith YouTube isn't really that
important at the beginning, so Ihad to stop myself and I said
to him if you want to startYouTube, you need to make the
first video.
And I wanted him to do itwithout any help at all.
And I gave him a topic to talkabout because he wasn't sure
what to talk about.
But then I went over his lifeand I said, well, you've done
(02:10):
this, you've done this, you'vedone this, you've got so many
cool things that you can sharewith people.
So I gave him a nice paradigmshift.
But then I said you will learna hundred you at least at the
beginning and I said if you takeaction, then I'll teach you.
And he went and did it.
And he went and made the videoand he's like, oh, this file
corrupted, and then the lightingwasn't right and I'm not sure
(02:30):
about the audio.
And I'm like, exactly, this isthe point.
Right, you learn through takingaction.
We're going to get action.
Just go, go, go all the time.
And it's the same with anythingwe do in life exercise our
relationship.
(02:50):
We have to keep taking actionall the time.
And the more action we take andthe better decisions that we
make, the better our lifebecomes.
I'll try and update you on mybrother's progress later on.
Maybe I'll share his channel ina bit.
But here's the thing Withalcohol it is totally, totally
different.
We think that if we use ouraction-taking ability to stop
drinking alcohol, it's going towork.
Right, I would feel that way, obviously, I'm just going to try
(03:12):
, I'm going to do it, I'm goingto go for it.
Yet the harder we try almostlike the harder it gets.
If I try and try and try, it'salmost like I want alcohol more
and more and more.
It never works out.
We have to realize that stoppingdrinking isn't actually an
action.
Think about it, right, drinkingis an action.
If you want to get addicted toalcohol, right, let's say that's
a thing.
It obviously is not.
(03:33):
But if you wanted to, you'renot going to sit and read books
about it, you just drink andthen you get addicted to it
because it's so addictive.
So if you want to stop drinkingalcohol, you can't just take
action because you're actuallystopping taking action.
See, when we try to stopdrinking alcohol, we don't
actually need to continuallystudy it.
What I mean is that, like I'llgive you an example in my own
life, once I stopped drinkingalcohol, I stopped consuming
(03:55):
content about it.
I only restarted when I startedthis YouTube channel and wanted
to educate myself, to teach it.
But the first year that Ididn't drink alcohol, I didn't
read any blogs.
I didn't read any YouTubechannels or watch any YouTube
channels.
I read no books.
I just stopped drinking alcoholand that was it.
Sure, leading up to thedecision, I did research.
I did a lot of research, butonce I got my head and I was
like, right, I'm done.
I didn't think about it againBecause what we're trying to do
(04:18):
is unlearn things.
We're not trying to learn thingsto then use while we're sober.
Learn things to then use whilewe're sober.
All we need to do to stopdrinking alcohol is unlearn all
the lies that we've been toldsince day one of being born.
We need to unlearn how it'sbeen portrayed in the media,
right.
We need to unlearn how it'sbeen portrayed in advertisements
.
We need to unlearn this ideathat it's our fault, that we're
the addictive person and so manymore things.
(04:38):
And we need to unpack it.
We need to study the individualcomponent part, not because
we're trying to gain anythingfrom learning and then use that
later on in our life.
No, we just need to bring itback to its core.
What is alcohol?
A poison, an addictive drugthat does nothing for you.
Once you're there, that's it.
It requires no action.
We're stopping an action.
(04:59):
But to get to that place, youneed to unlearn things and, if
you ask me, if you're trying todo this, if you're struggling to
do this, if you're trying toput the pieces together, the
best thing that you can do isfind somebody that has already
done it.
I'm not the only person outthere, right?
I'm sure that there aremultiple other people that have
figured it out, that have gotinto that worldview where they
see how awful what it is andthey have absolute conviction in
(05:20):
that worldview.
If I were in your shoes rightnow, I'd go and listen to
different people.
Maybe for you, my messageworked.
Things are starting to click, the light bulbs are starting to
flash, maybe not.
Maybe you need somebody else Idon't know who it is for you,
but I know one thing you need tofind the right message for you
and you really need to get tothe root cause of the problem,
which is your perception.
But just taking action andfighting and doing what you've
(05:41):
done to build success in allother areas of your life doesn't
work.
We need to change ourperception of the drug and then
just make a decision.
It's that easy.
We overcomplicate thingsbecause we're trying to apply
something that worked for manyyears in our own life to alcohol
and it never works.
Worked for many years in ourown life to alcohol and it never
works.
It's the opposite.
We need to do the opposite ofwhat my brother is doing right
now with his YouTube channel.
We need to take a step back.
We really need to think throughthings until we're able to make
(06:03):
that decision where we seealcohol for what it is and then
it requires no effort, no action, because we're not trying to do
something, we're just stoppinga behavior.
Now, how I did this was I usedfirst principles thinking.
This is what I teach in myprogram, in my coaching program,
and if you want to see if theprogram could work for you, just

reframing alcohol is the rightthing for you.
Can you do this without thephone call and without my
program.
Yes, of course it just mighttake you a bit longer.
In the long run it'll probablycost a lot more money and it'll
just generally be more difficult.
