Let us know what you enjoy about the show!

What drives you forward when you’re already succeeding?
When everyone around you thinks you’re doing great, how do you reconnect with that inner knowing that there’s more—more growth, more potential, more purpose?

This episode explores the growth mindset of high performers and challenges the idea that success means stopping. While many of us achieve mastery in our chosen fields, we often reach a plateau—coasting on competence, collecting praise, yet quietly wondering what else we’re capable of.

The real challenge isn’t always climbing higher. Sometimes it’s having the courage to challenge your comfort zone—to admit where you’re not living up to your own standard, even if the world thinks you’ve already made it.

As high performers, our fear often stems not from doubt, but from the magnitude of what we know we’re capable of. This episode invites you to reframe the choice: what if the space between comfort and transformation isn’t a leap, but a middle ground—a space to honor all you’ve done while reaching for what’s next?

Whether you’re thriving, coasting, or just beginning to stretch, ask yourself:

  • Where am I unconsciously competent?
  • When was the last time I truly felt challenged?
  • What untapped potential is waiting for me?

These aren’t questions of inadequacy—they’re invitations to step into deeper self-leadership, to expand into growth on your own terms.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey there, if personal growth and challenge
are not your thing, then youmight want to hit pause or stop.
But if personal growth andchallenge is your thing, well
then I want to invite you totake note of what insights might

(00:23):
come to you after we've chatted.
I've often been calledinspiring or even motivating,
and while it's a greatcompliment, I suppose to be
called inspiring, I don'tbelieve that I have the power to
inspire you.
I believe that inspirationlives within you.
You already have the capacityto be inspired, to be motivated,

(00:49):
and that the work and thechallenge is to figure out how
to connect to what's importantto you so that you can then
motivate yourself, so that youcan be the pilot of your
transformation, if there isn't aseed of inspiration already in

(01:12):
yourself.
My job as a coach is not tomotivate, but to transform
thinking beyond what you thoughtwas possible.
It's not attached to what Ithink could be, but rather an
opening to whatever you want togrow, whatever you want to build
.
I see unlimited potential inyou, but that means nothing

(01:37):
unless you can see it inyourself.
Maybe you're doing really wellat something a lot of us coast
along right, find ourselvesenjoying what we're doing, doing
it well, being complimented fordoing it.
But if we take a closer lookand this is the challenging part

(02:00):
if we challenge ourselves totake a look and ask ourselves
where in my life am I ourselves?
Where in my life am I coasting?
Where in my life am I showingup for other people's
expectations and meeting themand relying on the feedback the
good feedback that I've done agood job from them?

(02:21):
From them, what potential am Inot tapping into in myself to
challenge myself of what only Iknow I'm capable of?
That's the mind of a highperformer.
High performers are typicallyreally good at what they do.
It doesn't matter what they do,but whatever it is they choose

(02:44):
to focus on.
It doesn't matter what they do,but whatever it is they choose
to focus on, that area of theirlife is something that they're
either known for or that theyknow they're good at and they do
it well.
They're high achievers, theywork really hard, but at a
certain point you hit a plateau.
But at a certain point you hita plateau, you start to just

(03:09):
float, coast, even rest on yourlaurels.
Where in your life are you notdigging deeper into that well of
potential that we all have?
Now, again, as I prefaced.
If this isn't important to you, then just ignore me.

(03:30):
Take what's useful and get ridof the rest.
It's so important, though, toallow yourself the opportunity
to ponder some of these things.
I mean, how many of you, honestly, are really doing well
and might even be just a littlebit comfortable?
Maybe things come easy to youand you're getting a lot of

(03:51):
praise for what you do, but youknow deep down inside that
there's more.
But from the outside, everybodythinks you're doing great.
Everybody's impressed with whatyou're doing.
It would be so easy just tocoast along with that, and you
know what?
Honestly, there's nothing wrongwith that.
If that's your vibe, if youwant to do that, go for it.

(04:13):
Power to you, but do itintentionally, not by default,
because it just kind of feelsgood and it's easier to not
change or to not grow than it isto just stay where you are.
But if you're truly comfortablewhere you are, by all means
stay and get curious there.
Get curious about what'spossible in where you already

(04:43):
are.
Treat each day as if it's abrand new day.
So if you've been doing thesame thing for a long time and
you're continuing to do it,that's okay.
What's important is how you'redoing it and who you are being
when you're doing it, becausewho you are being when you're
doing whatever it is you'redoing is key to living a
fulfilled, fulfilling life ofpossibilities.

(05:04):
Listen, guys, sometimes I okay.
So I have, I have pretty goodself-esteem and I have a pretty
good track record of peopletelling me you're strong, you're
motivating, you're successful,you're a maverick.
I've been called so many thingsand feedback's nice, positive
feedback is great, but at acertain point it means nothing.

(05:26):
It means absolutely nothing.
If it means nothing to you, ifyou're not proud of yourself,
then you got to ask yourself why.
Again, that's where thechallenge comes.
The challenge is not necessarilyin climbing a mountain or
trying something new it couldlive there but ultimately,

(05:50):
before you even get to the thingthat you're doing, that you
feel would be a challenge, thechallenge is to admit that you
are not living up to yourpotential and that it's
important to you.
It's a choice here, guys, it'sa choice and again, it's okay if
you don't want to.
There's nothing wrong with that.

(06:10):
Here comes the challenge part.
I challenge you to think hardand be honest about where in
your life you're coasting, whereit is that you might just be
surfacing where it's easy, whereyou're kind of unconsciously
good at something, where in yourlife are you unconsciously
competent?
And where can you build yourcompetency in another area?

(06:34):
Where in your life are youunconsciously not tapping into
your potential?
When was the last time you wereactually challenged?
When you felt challenged orscared?
That's the sign that growth ison the horizon.
And again, if growth is notyour thing, that's totally fine.
There's nothing wrong withbeing comfortable.

(06:55):
There's really nothing wrongwith being comfortable.
I mean that.
But as a high performer myselfand working with high performers
, I'm highly aware of when I canstretch a bit further because
it's important to me, notbecause I'm trying to impress
somebody else or because I thinkI'm not enough.

(07:15):
I believe that we are allenough, but I'm talking about
honoring ourselves.
Quite frankly, I can share withyou that what I fall into is
feeling very accomplished, beingable to own that, but also

(07:36):
feeling an underlying worry that, although I'm absolutely
capable of going to thequote-unquote next level,
there's some fear there, notbecause I can't do it, but
because I can.
And that's where I start tothink about what would I be
saying no to if I say yes tothat.

(07:57):
And then I start to reallydelve into the area of why does
this have to be a yes-noscenario?
What would be different if Ilooked at it from the point of
view of scenario?
What would be different if Ilooked at it from the point of
view of yes, this might bedifferent, but what else is true
?
Because if one thing'sdifferent, then many things are

(08:23):
different.
So by saying yes to something, yes, things will change, right,
I mean your rhythm will change.
The people you're interactingwith might change.
Maybe your travel schedulechanges, maybe you're just your
basic rhythm of life.
You'll be meeting new people.
Perhaps, whatever it is youdecide to do, that is a change
or a transition, will bringnewness into your life.
But it doesn't mean thateverything else is suddenly old.

(08:47):
Does it need to mean that?
Does it mean that you'releaving something to go towards
something you know?
I often talk about beingattached to an outcome.
What if we're attached to wherewe are?
What if we're stuck in themiddle?
What if, on the one hand, we'reattached to the thinking that

(09:08):
if I do this, then it will belike that, but we're also
attached to staying where we are, to keeping ourselves safe, to
not thinking, no magicalthinking here, just safety
thinking, familiarity thinking,hardwired, primitive brain

(09:30):
thinking.
But what's in the middle ofthat?
How can I be safe?
How can I know that I'm rootedin all that I've done and all
that's brought me here to thismoment and that that is part of
what's going to get me to there?
But it's not going to beexactly the same.

(09:51):
What if I play in the middle?
What's in the middle?
What's in the place where thereis space?
Friends, I know this has been alot.
I told you it was going to be achallenge.
You've just been part of mythinking process and you know,
just thinking out loud here.

(10:12):
I encourage you to ask yourselfthese questions, as I'm asking
myself in real time.
If that's something thatexcites you or that feels a
little edgy, then I think that'sterrific.
I appreciate you and I hopethat you've learned something

(10:34):
from this and gained someinsight about yourself, where
you are, where you'd like to beand what the possibilities are.
I'm Lisa Hopkins.
Thanks so much for listening.
Stay safe and healthy, everyone, and remember to live in the
moment.
