We have a powerful and important conversation to share with you today. Those of you who regularly attend Desert Springs will recognize today's guest Nate Fish. Nate and his family began attending Desert Springs in the spring of 2021 and it wasn't long before Nate began serving as a worship volunteer regularly singing and playing piano in our Modern Services. We even had Nate's wife Suzanne on episode 2 of this podcast! Nate begins his story by telling us what life was like growing up with his Dad serving in the Army. In his words he moved a "gazillion" times but despite that his parents always felt it was important to be involved with a church. Their family held the belief that the Church was their family no matter where they lived. Nate shares that he even though he came to know the Lord at a young age he felt his faith was more based on following the rules than a thriving relationship with Jesus. He became focused on "what not to do" but had a very hard time reconciling his personal struggles with that. Flash forward to college and these struggles became harder to ignore. Nate became involved with a fairly large church in Pittsburgh, PA, serving on the worship team and being involved with a small group. During his time with the small group Nate felt the Lord pressing on his heart to share his struggles with one of the leaders of the group. He was incredibly scared to share but pushed through his fear and he opened up his heart during a meeting at a Starbucks with the group leader. Though at first it seemed his story was well received by the group leader a painful reality surfaced as Nate's worst fears came true. Thankfully we serve a God who does not give up on us and Nate walks us through what happened next. We encourage you to listen to this story and really lean into what Nate says about who he is in Christ, how he overcame this deep church hurt and what God has done in his life since then through the Church.
