I think Coach Stark hit it.
You know it's the life of acompetitor and it sucks being on
this side of things for sure.
I mean back-to-back years, pretty much the game decided in
one play, and you know it's hard.
It's hard.
You know all the work that weput in.
You know being in the FinalFour back-to-back years and
(01:33):
coming up short two years, it'stough.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
But you know I think
that's how life is.
You're going to get punched inthe face in some hard moments.
Stevie Lee.
It's never easy to move on whenyou have high expectations,
when you are really.
You have that dream.
You played on some of thosegreat teams of Matt Brown.
You thought about nationalchampionship often and in this
(01:59):
new era of the playoff man, ithas survived to see another week
.
How long has it taken you toget over that loss that Texas
suffered in Dallas against youknow, I've said it, I thought
Ohio State was the best team inthe country.
How long has it taken you?
Are you out of the funk yetafter that loss in the CFP
semifinals?
Speaker 5 (02:15):
I'm out of the funk,
man.
It was a great year, yeah, hada lot of fun watching the guys
going to see practices and itwas a great year.
Man, it was a little.
Had a lot of fun watching theguys going to see practices and
it was a great year.
Man, it was a little bit of afunk.
Honestly, I left the stadiumhappy, man, I honestly did.
Now I can't talk about my wifeand the way she felt.
(02:38):
We went over to Lowe's Live, the hotel next door.
I had dinner and she was justsulking at dinner.
Man, I actually took a pictureof it and it was funny.
I was happy about my year, man,it's been good.
It was great.
When the strip fumble happened,I was upset and I was like,
(03:02):
golly, this can't be happening.
I was upset and I was likegolly, this can't be happening.
And then, you know, when thebell rung, I was like, man, we
can't be mad about this year, wecan't.
So I'm good.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Yeah, I'm good too.
It took me until probably 1 pmyesterday.
I was in a funk.
I don't know what it is.
I can't sleep in on weekends.
I should have after that, butat 1 o'clock I was like you know
what it's?
Turnover, new league.
There's a lot to be celebratedwith that season and overall
great college football seasonand there's a lot to look
(03:36):
forward to.
I want to give a shout out tothe Hargrove family.
They have supported us sinceday one.
They continue.
And Stevie, he has that voice,he has that slogan, the
marketing slogan that is down toa T.
Speaker 5 (03:51):
Hargrove Roofing know
who's on your roof.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
Hey, we love them and
I know that they probably are
sulking still, but they're funfolks and they are really
genuine people.
You can trust their work.
I've used them.
Stevie has recommended hisfriends Hargrove Roofing 100%,
You'll definitely know who's onyour roof.
Hey, before we get this thinggoing, follow us on all of our
social media platforms atFacebook, IGX, Twitter, you can
(04:17):
call it whatever you want.
Elon doesn't care.
Just as long as you are jumpingon to it, he may censor you.
I don't know.
Long as you are jumping on toit, he may censor you.
I don't know.
But YouTube subscribe for free,Tick tock.
We still need some work done onthat.
But, Stevie, we got one of ourbest friends, our brothers, on
here.
Who is man?
He looked good wearing thatnumber one Jersey back in the
(04:37):
day and we got to get.
I'll never forget, he said,quote.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
I'm too good to be.
Red shirt sounds about right.
That's, that's this guy.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
Yes without any more
delay, let's rock.
Win yours fresh off the fourthand third, jack strips up.
Speaker 6 (05:11):
Fuck Jack, he scoops.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
He runs Jack Sawyer
Touchdown Wow.
Speaker 7 (05:37):
Shit, I guess.
Just don't fall like Will didyou know?
I'm joking, I'm kidding, but no, seriously, I hit about the 30.
And I look back.
I'm like I hope I got someblockers.
I'm running out of steam hereand they were running with me
side by side, and then that justspeaks volumes to who this team
is too.
We always have each other'sback and it was a special moment
(05:59):
.
I love Columbus, I love thestate of Ohio and I love Ohio
State football and I just thinkthat you know they're a great
team and they got great scheme.
And you know I give CoachKnowles and Coach Day a lot of
credit for the way they theyschemed them up.
And you know they made a lot ofbig plays too.
They punched us in the mouth alot of times throughout the game
and, like I said, you knowthey're a great team and you
(06:38):
know there's mutual respect fromOhio State toward Texas.
Speaker 5 (06:39):
After that 28-14 win
over Texas ending the Longhorn
season, ohio State continues.
Stevie, the only thing that Ihate I hate, I hate, hate, hate.
And I know hate is a strongword, but I hate it.
When someone submit theirhistory in their school against
us, you get what I'm saying.
So that kid, what's his name?
I'm sorry, jack Sawyer.
(07:00):
Yeah, he would forever be knownfor that At his school, at his
school, at his school.
And Roy Williams at OU isforever known for flying over
our running back and hittingChris Sims.
Michael Crabtree is foreverknown at his school, at Texas
(07:20):
Tech, for great points so I hatewhen someone submits their
legacy against us in theiruniversity, but hats off to them
.
He did it.
This is what little kids dreamabout.
All right, rip fumble, pickingup and running all the way back
for a touchdown.
He did it all himself.
(07:40):
That's a dream come true toanybody that plays defense as a
little kid man.
So he did it, and hats off tohim.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
I am Sean Clench, the
host of Stories Inside the man
Cave, co-host of the Pass Rushwith Stevie Lee.
We love this series and sadly, after today we're going to go
every other week thisnon-football season, unless
there's some big topic, big-ish,big story, big guest that we
line up.
But every other week it's beena fun ride.
But hey, the fun continues inthis episode 446.
(08:14):
We're about to have more fun,but I want you to hear from
Sarkeesian on that last drive.
You've got to give a shout-outand props to the Texas offense
for driving down to the one-yardline.
Speaker 6 (08:28):
The last thing you
think is that you know the sack
and it's going to bounce rightto the guy who's going to run
for a touchdown.
So it's unfortunate that thatwas the circumstances, because
it was a really nice drive bythe offense to get all the way
down there and first a goal onthe one and we don't score.
You know, quite frankly, youprobably don't deserve to win
that way.
Speaker 4 (08:46):
Good point, good
point.
What's your thoughts?
Or you know what I think weought to do.
I can't wait for you and aformer number one.
We need to talk about that withhim, but before we get to him,
man, I want you to.
You know, coach, nfl Coach, theOregon Ducks national champion.
(09:07):
He's the offensive coordinatorof Ohio State and he what he?
He made it a point tocompliment the Texas defense.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
The defense has done
what they've done all year long.
You know and again, Texas is areally good defensive football
team.
So we knew we had our handsfull and it was going to be a
battle.
It's going to be a 60-minutebattle, but I think that last
drive our offense went down thefield and scored, gave us the
energy to go up 21-14.
And then for our defense tofinish it off the way they did
was fitting.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
Hey, he earned his
paycheck.
He did.
It was not easy.
It was not easy for Ohio State.
Speaker 5 (09:43):
It was not easy for
Ohio State, yeah.
So I saw the progression in thefirst half of what he was going
to be doing.
So we started putting pressurein their quarterback's face and
he dialed up the perfect play, going before halftime with that
screen because we were playingback to you know, play the
(10:09):
screen and play in the shortroutes.
And then we just startedpinning our ears back and going
after the quarterback and theyread that and through that
screen over the top of ourdefensive backs or our defensive
line, and went for a touchdownbecause we were being very
(10:29):
aggressive at getting to thequarterback, which is fine.
But he dialed up a perfect playfor what we were doing at the
time.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
Oh, it was brilliant.
Speaker 5 (10:38):
It was brilliant.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
Hey, I think you were
there.
I didn't make the trip.
But our new VI, he's not a newvia, he's a legend in this man
cave, he's a.
He's about to be a three timeuh VIP alumnus, let's bring in
the Norman.
There he is, man, dean NormanWatkins man.
(11:24):
I mean, I know it's not a CFPor New Year's Six game, but back
then for you guys going to theSun Bowl and beating Mack Brown
in North Carolina, that was kindof a big deal.
Well, you know what it was.
Speaker 8 (11:39):
So this is before
social media.
So I'm aging myself a littlebit right.
So I'm looking at the.
You guys saw the big oldshoulder pads and the old film
and all that stuff.
But, man, you know, Mack Brownteam was really, really good
that year.
They had a lot of first roundand second round draft picks on
that team and they werepredicting us to get creamed and
(12:01):
so that was actually, guys, mylast game at the University of
Texas.
I went straight through all fouryears and played in every game
and played my freshman year inevery game and started my three
years.
I went straight through.
It flew by.
I don't know if I ever told youthis, sean and Stevie, I was a
(12:24):
17-year freshman at ut, so a lotof the kids that came a year
after me was older than me, so Iwas a really young actually.
I arrived at ut at 16 and thenturned 17.
So you know, I played my senioryear with a dislocated shoulder
.
So go figure, right, I went froma guy that was supposed to get
(12:45):
drafted, going into my senioryear with a dislocated shoulder.
So go figure, right, I wentfrom a guy that was supposed to
get drafted going into my senioryear to dislocating my shoulder
the second game of the seasonand then playing throughout that
that whole career and then, when it was time to go to the
combines, get drafted like thescouts, like norm.
You got to have surgery on thisso I literally played on
adrenaline.
But that's old school, right.
(13:05):
I'm just kind of giving youguys some context on back when I
played.
I mean guys were literallygoing to games still with
concussions after getting alittle smelling salt and all
that stuff right, but that was agreat game.
I'm sure Coach Mack don't wantto hear about that, but you know
they were a formidable team.
It's one of my favoritememories.
(13:28):
I actually scored a touchdown, hopefully, at University of
Houston.
I picked off one against.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Keith.
Speaker 8 (13:33):
Klingler for 30 yards
and flew out there and did like
the electric slide when I gotin the end zone.
Speaker 9 (13:40):
So it was some good
times back, then you were in
Knight Adams right.
Speaker 8 (13:44):
Yeah, well, you know
it's hard to find film unless
you have true film.
But you know, back then wedidn't have.
You don't see those video clipsand all the stuff that we see
now.
So I'm glad it's always fun tosee the, you know, now in this
era where you really can getclean film on everybody and get
a chance to see those memoriesfor a lifetime.
So thanks, thanks guys Both ofyou guys for bringing that
(14:07):
memory up.
We won the game and that wasthat was priest coming out,
party priest homes coming outfor that game, you know man,
norm I, you know, I, I this iskind of you can tell I've made
the switch to basketball.
Speaker 4 (14:24):
I had to bring out
and represent the Thunder.
The football season's over with.
I don't care about the NFLplayoffs, I don't.
I mean Texas is done.
I probably won't watch thenational championship, I
probably will.
Speaker 8 (14:37):
Of course you will.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
It's.
I just want to let you know Iwore this in honor of you.
I had to bring it out.
It's not often we wear beanieson these episodes, but I want to
real quick your thoughts.
You were there.
Thoughts on the Cotton Bowl andthat.
Ohio State team.
They played.
Speaker 8 (14:56):
My initial thoughts.
Listen, first of all, I'm soproud of our team.
Yes, because if you listen tothe pundits, we were going to
get blowed out.
You know they put 31 points onwhat Oregon in that game, 24 in
the first quarter againstTennessee.
Right, and I'm thinking tomyself guys, you guys not look
at them.
Our defense is ranked numberone, number two, number three
(15:17):
and number four in differentcategories.
We're not getting blown out,you know, even if they beat us,
we have a formidable team.
And so at that point, when I wastalking to people through the
week, I'm just listening tothese pundits on TV and you've
got the Stephen A Smiths and Imean all these guys, all these
guys on TV that make a wholebunch more money than a lot of
(15:38):
us, and I'm just like guys, you've got to look at film Texas
.
I knew that we would go in andfight, but I will tell you this
the theme.
You asked me a question aboutwhat my thoughts were.
Listen, congratulations to, Imean, ohio State as well.
Players make plays and that'swhat they did in that game.
(16:01):
Yeah, players make plays andthey made two or three critical
plays that dictated who won thatgame, because that could have
went either way.
Speaker 4 (16:11):
It could have.
Speaker 8 (16:12):
Either way.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
I thought for a
second deep down.
I had faith that, okay, this isgetting out, they're doing well
because they limited them belowtheir average.
Our Texas defense limited thembelow their average, especially
in what they've done in the CFP.
And then the defense made a bigplay Play action Howard looking
(16:37):
downfield, pressure, closing inand he throws a pick.
They got near him, the throwwas influenced and David Benda
with the first takeaway tonightfor Texas.
That's when I thought themomentum swung, stevie, were you
at that point?
Texas regained the momentum.
Did you think Okay, the door isopening.
Speaker 5 (16:59):
Regained the momentum
Shout out to David Benda,
alumni.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
VIP alumni.
Speaker 5 (17:04):
Vip alumni Of IP
alumni of the man Cave.
But yeah, I thought that we gotreal good field position right
there and offense go in andscore, and we all know what
happened.
But yeah, that was a big swingof the game.
I'm jumping up and down, I'mready for it, you know, and I
(17:27):
just needed the offense to go inand score.
Right then, you know.
So that was fun.
Speaker 4 (17:35):
So you alluded to it.
Then the offense took over andit was in the third quarter
Halftime.
Okay, it was anyone's game.
I'm sorry to cover you up, Norm.
But then Blue Jaden, Blue,brilliant.
They said, all right, we'reprobably not going to run the
(17:55):
ball like we want to, let's gethim in space.
And then this happened.
They can do on this third downplay, Pressure comes.
Speaker 5 (18:03):
Wide open is Blue
Jukes scores, texas strikes
again.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
That's two for Blue.
All right, so that was thirdquarter.
Norm, is it accurate for me tosay Texas?
They own the third quarter.
Speaker 8 (18:21):
You know what
Pleasant surprise for us?
Right Because I was reading astat guys prior to the Arizona
State game.
In the third quarter we gotoutscored 66 to 6.
Speaker 4 (18:33):
Yes, that's a good
point.
Speaker 8 (18:34):
So let that sink in
so.
I just said.
You know I was talking to somefriends and they were asking me
all my thoughts prior to thegame.
I said we have to play acomplete game, we have to
eliminate the turnovers and wehave to execute.
For the most part we did a lotof those things.
Obviously, turnovers came backto haunt us again towards the
(18:58):
end, but we did execute and weeliminated a lot of penalties.
Listen, I was pleasantly andhappy to see that we actually
came out and played a good thirdquarter and made some things
happen and not let them go crazyon us in the third quarter
(19:19):
because again, history sometimesrepeats itself and prior to the
Arizona State game the stat wasin the third quarter 66-7.
Let that sink in.
Speaker 9 (19:30):
Right.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
So, stevie, at that
point did you think what did you
think?
So the fourth quarter?
Obviously everything'sdetermined the fourth quarter.
Obviously everything'sdetermined, the fourth quarter.
But I felt at that point that Imaybe Ohio state would tighten
up, like meaning not play loose.
Did you get that impressiongoing into that fourth quarter?
Speaker 5 (19:56):
Yeah, I thought that
it started the game over with
momentum.
We have momentum, momentumum, and so I felt that felt like,
yes, we got some breathing room, let's go out here and play.
Everybody's relaxed, theoffense is starting to get going
and the defense had figuredthem out and everything, and so
(20:21):
that was a turning point for mein the game.
This is really about to happen, right, and so I started to get
happy and things like that.
And then, for whatever reason, other things happened.
Speaker 4 (20:33):
Yeah, yeah, norm, you
saw how we started off after
Steve and I kicked off the firstsegment of this episode.
That was not on Quinn, ifanybody and I'm not trying to
call out anybody, but that's theright tackle against a guy who
was determined to figure out away to make a play that strip,
(20:57):
sack and scoop and score.
What were your emotions?
Could you even process it whenit was happening, when you were
there, are you?
Talking about that.
Fourth down?
Yeah, fourth down and goal.
Speaker 8 (21:09):
Terrible play call,
yep.
I'm just, I'm not going tosugarcoat it oh, it's you?
Run to the strength of theirdefense, yep.
And I'm saying prior to thatcall, in regards to oh the toss
sweep.
(21:31):
It was just symptomatic of,unfortunately, some things that
have bitten us in the past cameback to haunt us again.
But Ohio State's a really,really good team, a championship
team, and they capitalized.
The player made a play, sawyermade a play on that, but I'm
(21:53):
referring to Sean the call.
Prior to that we were what?
The one-yard line, and you knowI would have been more happy
guys with us just running.
Hey, let's just go straight tothe gut four times in a row.
If we don't make it, then hey, they're a better team, right,
(22:15):
but you do not run a, you do notdo a tall sweep where you're
already five yards deep, deep,by the time the running back
gets the ball and you got a guylike Caleb Downs who has no
other responsibility but toshoot these gaps and be a free,
be a rover there.
(22:36):
It made no sense at all.
Speaker 4 (22:40):
So, you know, I'm
glad you said that, Stevie.
I was livid on that play call.
I still don't listen.
I don't get paid to make thosedecisions, nor will I ever I
will.
Between the three of us, wehave different levels of
experience and understanding ofthe game.
I don't want to sound like anangry, pissed-off fan.
I'm not, but that's the shortside of the field.
Speaker 9 (23:04):
Literally it was.
Speaker 4 (23:06):
And correct me if I'm
wrong, stevie, there were more
defenders, more Buckeyes, onthat side of the ball.
Isn't it more advantageous tonot like what Norm said, to not
pitch back something quicker andwhere you have more versus less
of them?
Yeah, block up for the run fit.
Speaker 5 (23:30):
Going back to look at
it, man, it should have been a
timeout or it should have beenan audible at the line by Quinn,
because they were overloadedover there.
Yes, because they wereoverloaded over there, yes.
Speaker 8 (23:50):
Almost felt like that
they found some kind of tip.
Well, I tell you, you know whatthe tip was.
Guys, when you bring and teamsdo this all the time, it never
really works.
When you start bringing in yourdefensive linemen, it's
Tennessee's.
They knew exactly what we weregoing run yeah, yeah, so you
bring it in all these guys thatnormally don't play offense
(24:10):
right.
It looks pretty and looks goodwhen you bring in these big boys
from the defense and it's funif it works.
But, tendency wise, they, theyknew.
Just see how he shot the gap.
They, they knew the exact playwe were going to call.
Speaker 5 (24:24):
Yeah, yeah, and to
your point, stevie.
Speaker 8 (24:27):
They should have
audible at the line.
Speaker 5 (24:29):
Yes, yeah, I would
have been good with a time using
the timeout right there to getthe right play in there.
Speaker 8 (24:35):
Right play in.
Speaker 5 (24:37):
But also I think that
Sark is a genius that sometimes
gets in his own way.
We just saw that Right.
Sark is a genius that sometimesgets in his own way.
We just saw that right Officeof Genius sometimes that you got
to.
How do I put it Again?
I'm going to use Coach Royal onthis show.
The answer is who brought you?
That's it.
(24:59):
Texas has always and will alwaysbe about big man football, from
when Norm played, from when Iplayed.
From now it should be about bigman football From when Norm
played, from when I played.
From now it should be about bigman football.
You run the ball up the gutfour times in a row.
If you need to get it in theend zone Four times in a row and
we always have had runningbacks that if they get stopped,
(25:23):
they're going to fall for threeyards.
You know what I'm saying.
So, yes, we got stopped on thefirst down Line.
Back up and do it again onsecond down.
And if you need to do it againon third down, you know what?
Give the Hawks their slot onfourth down.
You know what I'm saying.
Just do it, and you can dodifferent plays right up the
(25:44):
middle, but it needs to bebetween the tackles.
That's how Texas win games.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
My question is and
then we'll move forward is I get
it?
I didn't see a true big setJumbo Meaning let's go last big
jumbo that I remember that wasso effective bringing Roy Miller
, the former defensive tackle,in to block.
Texas has done it before.
(26:10):
They did it last year withTavondre Used a pass play.
That big man has hands.
Speaker 5 (26:16):
And both of them was
in there at one point.
Both of them, both of them wasin there at one point.
Speaker 4 (26:18):
Both of them.
Both of them was in there, andcredit to Ohio State.
Their defensive line is thatgood.
So you guys have done it.
It is reflective of real life.
You know, things come to an end, Things don't go our way, but
unfortunately for a lot of theseguys, I think a lot of people
are fans of Texas because of thegroup of people like Michael
(26:43):
Taff, Jadae Barron and MichaelTaff goes from walk-on to
All-American.
I'm going to go ahead and sayit.
This kid from Westlake.
Speaker 1 (26:55):
He emptied the clip,
the tank every time he played
like he emptied the clip thetank every time people play.
Speaker 10 (27:08):
Came in here to walk
on and now I'm an All-American.
But I don't care about that.
I care about the love of myteammates.
That's truly all I care about.
Those are cool accolades, buthearing that a teammate loves me
is so much cooler.
Speaker 4 (27:29):
Guys, your thoughts
on him, and I know there was
another piece of video and Ididn't run it.
There was another piece ofvideo in the tunnel of him
yelling but a lot of people.
There's a lot of ignorance inthe comments, questioning his
(27:51):
manhood, questioning him, calling it theatrics, dude.
There's a lot of damn emotionthat goes into that when
everything you love and put yourtime and effort into.
I'm not going to criticize him.
You just had a big part of yourlife.
I know it's just a season, butyou were so close to those who
may not understand why he wasreacting that way.
Nor it's emotional and ittriggers you because of finality
(28:12):
of it all.
Speaker 8 (28:13):
I'm getting emotional
now just looking at that.
By the way, Taff has become oneof my favorite players on the
team.
That's my favorite player, thatyoung man, his story.
Now you're talking aboutwriting a movie script on Listen
all heart.
None of his conversations withthe media are scripted either.
(28:37):
Now, the people that criticizedhim after the game and what he
did in the tunnel, those peoplenever played a game of football
in their life, Ever.
When you practice, listen,games are.
I hope a lot of people arelistening to this but games are
won in the offseason Okay, doingthose winter drills, burpees,
(29:04):
all the stuff that you have todo before you get to the game,
and the preparation andeverything that goes into
forming a team.
To see that young man and thewhole entire team leave it all
on the field.
Man, I just wanted to give theyoung man a hug myself.
(29:25):
I'm proud to say he's aLonghorn.
One of the formulas, as I wasthinking about how you were
talking, sean, about the cultureand where we're at now as a
university, one of the things Ilove that Sark and the coaching
staff has done a good job of iswhen they're recruiting kids.
(29:48):
They're recruiting a lot ofthese young men from winning
cultures, yep, and then they, sothey are used to winning and
then so they are used to winning.
If you look at the kids that wehave on our roster, a majority
of these kids come from winningprograms, and so we just take it
up a whole nother level oncethey get here, and that's how
they're creating this culture ofwinning, and not only winning
(30:12):
on the field, but winning offthe field.
Look at how these men represent.
Look at that JJ him off thefield.
Look at how these men represent.
Look at that JA Barroninterview afterwards this is you
know, you look at it and I'mjust like man.
These young men you're justlike.
If I had a company, I wouldhire them immediately.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
These guys the class
act and you hit the nail on the
head.
It is part of the culture and Ireally hope the fans embrace
this, because it's not often yousee these types of players.
I mean, you go back to both ofyour eras when you were at Texas
Norman from 91 to 94, andStevie a decade later, 01 to 04,
(31:00):
or 2000 to 04, right Stevie.
Yeah.
Yeah, you had great talent, butyou had great players too, who
are all success stories.
And that leads me to this QuinnEwers.
The problem I have with thissubject right here is I really
(31:21):
hope that people start to learnto appreciate what he did for
the program, because I was oneof those who was on the fringe
of kind of criticizing him, andnow I don't.
About three games into thisseason I stopped, and this was
Quinn.
After the game.
Speaker 3 (31:40):
We was Quinn after
the game.
We grind together and the lovegrows together.
It's just been a really coolseason.
I'm so proud to be a Longhorn.
Speaker 4 (31:49):
It's not official,
official.
He has announced that he'sgoing to enter the NFL draft.
Stevie, what's your take on him?
What do you think he'll do?
I mean he could end up in thedraft, I mean get drafted.
Do you think he goes into thetransfer?
Speaker 5 (32:09):
portal.
First of all, he can dowhatever he wants to do, and I
think that people should get offhis back and let him do what he
needs to do for him and hisfamily.
Second of all, he did announce, yes, that he was going to go
into the NFL draft, and if hedoes that, hats off to him.
And he can actually choose tostay here.
(32:32):
He has another year ofeligibility, even though he did
participate in Senior Day, butwhat we have to do is give him
his flowers, correct?
We are top four in the countrythe last two years.
We're the last four standingfor the last two years, and we
haven't had that in decades, orin a decade over a decade, right
(32:56):
, yeah, and so hats off to thiskid for leading us there.
You know he has great numbersas you put up here and people
just start but still criticizehis game.
I mean, a lot of people wascrying from a yacht, you know.
So he's done well for us.
(33:21):
He submitted his legacy at theUniversity of Texas.
He's always going to be aLonghorn, even if he goes
somewhere else.
He spent most of his time here.
He's from Texas.
He's going to get recognizedwherever he goes.
He's a Longhorn.
When he graduates he'll have aT-ring, like Norman I have.
So I have to thank you, quinn, yours, for all you've done for
(33:45):
the university, because he madea bunch of us happy in the
stands and and handled adversity, handled it with class and
handled adversity, handled itwith class.
And we also need to rememberthat this is a 19, 20-year-old
kid, so hats off to him.
(34:08):
I give him all the credit forhelping taking us where we are
right now.
Speaker 4 (34:14):
So, norman, I'm going
to play a soundbite it's kind
of long from Sark about Quinn.
But before I mean, you guystake a look, you guys watching
or listening, if you'relistening 36 games played, over
9,100 career yards.
That's third all-time passingin UT football history, 76
(34:34):
touchdowns to 24 picks andthird-time all-time career TDs
in UT football history.
And people question I mean, when he came out of high school
he was as highly rated as VinceYoung was out of Houston-Madison
.
Stark afterwards referred toQuinn as an inspiration.
Speaker 6 (34:58):
He's taught me a lot,
probably unknowingly to him,
because what he went throughevery year, dealing with injury,
what he goes through where Idon't know if he'd ever live up
to the standards of whateverybody thinks he's supposed
to be but at the end of the day,all he did was show up every
day and work and be a greatleader and be a great teammate.
(35:23):
And that's a real credit to him, because human nature in this
day and age is to look atTwitter, to look at Instagram,
to look at social media andarticles written in fan boards
and whatever else, and you canride that emotional roller
coaster of whatever you thinkpublic opinion could be and that
could be the opinion of one ora hundred or whatever, but that
(35:46):
guy, this guy, never did that.
You know.
All he did was come to workevery day.
All he did was be a greatteammate.
All he did was work on hiscraft, get himself as healthy as
he could when he was injuredand then show up and when it was
time, time to show up and maybeoutside of the first two games
I don't think he played a gamethis year a hundred percent
healthy and he fought througheverything.
Speaker 4 (36:07):
Wow, Wow.
Think about that Was nothealthy Rarely was he healthy
norm, I mean to me Sark keeps itreal on every response or
response to any question withthe media.
Speaker 8 (36:24):
Yeah, you know, I
think Stevie nailed it in
regards to my sentiments onQuinn.
Thank you first of all, quinn.
And I think about if you lookat the last two years I was just
thinking as we were talkingabout this here the games.
I think it's like twenty fiveand five now including in the
(36:46):
championship game.
So last year we only lostOklahoma during the regular
season and then we lost toWashington.
Listen, guys, think about thelast few years, 10 plus years
here at the University of Texas.
I don't know about you, but asa fan now and as alumni, when I
sit in the stands and go tothese games, these are some of
(37:10):
the best times of my life, sitting back and being proud as
a Longhorn.
And we've all been through this.
Stevie sitting in the standsprior to the last two years, I'm
like dang, you know, since youplayed Stevie and those teams
Right, and that's been a longtime ago, Right, we're talking
(37:30):
about 10 plus years ago.
So think about this, guys.
Just Quinn, if you're, ifyou're listening, man, we
appreciate you and man, thesky's the limit to whatever you
do, young man in life.
So you look at last year twolosses, oklahoma, and then in
that semi-championship gameagainst Washington, which we
(37:52):
could have won as well, we wereright there at the end, fourth
down, so we were right in thatgame as well.
Then this year lost to Georgiatwice no one else during the
regular season and got down toplaying.
Let the media tell you, ohioState was like LSU a few years
(38:13):
ago.
It was like come on, guys.
And then they were talkingabout I mean, ryan Day was about
to lose his job four or five.
I mean four or five weeks ago.
It was like, okay, but goingback to Sean and Stevie, you
think about that, let that sinkin Five games, what is it?
25 and five or something likethat.
He's always handled himselfwith class and you guys know, as
(38:39):
a quarterback at the Universityof Texas.
I mean the stuff that possibleon making certain throws and
that kind of stuff but at theend of the day, he's been a true
(39:02):
champion and a true legacyplayer for the University of
Texas.
So, quinn, whatever you want todo in life, man, we appreciate
you, man and thank you foreverything you've done here.
Speaker 4 (39:13):
That's big volumes
coming from former Longhorns.
You guys have mentioned him andZadeh Barron, one of those
5-1-2 boys from Connolly HighSchool in Pflugerville, ends up
winning the Thorpe Award thebest defensive back in the
country.
That is a select, prestigiousfraternity.
I love hearing this young manspeak and this is him on his
(39:36):
experience as a Longhorn.
Speaker 9 (39:39):
Just growing up in
Austin and having the
opportunity to wear burnt orange, it's been amazing.
But I mean just to start it off.
You know Quinn, coming in beingmy roommate, coach Sart, you
know he's changed my lifecompletely.
I'm totally a different personjust on and off the field and
just how I care about myself andjust carry myself and things
like that.
But I was always told thepurpose serves a purpose.
(40:02):
That's a lot greater than meand any individual.
But these two guys, they mostdefinitely just changed my life
and everybody else included.
Speaker 4 (40:09):
Wow, well spoken,
incredibly intelligent.
And he plays that way.
Very smart, Stevie.
I mean, I don't know what elseto say, but what's your tribute
to Jadae Barron and what he'scontributed getting Texas
football back to this nationalstage?
That it's on.
Speaker 5 (40:28):
Yeah, getting Texas
football back to the national
stage but also getting that DBroom.
You know we called ourselvesDBU for a long time and now we
can get back to that.
We have three Thorpe Awardwinners at the University of
Texas.
All three of them was well.
Two of them was in my era andthen now one here with Jaday and
(40:50):
also representing the CentralTexas area in Pflugerville
Connelly, pflugerville is it,yeah?
Speaker 4 (40:57):
Connelly High School
in Pflugerville, Pflugerville,
Connelly, Pflugerville.
Is it, yeah?
Connelly High School in.
Speaker 5 (40:59):
Pflugerville All
right, pflugerville High School
in Pflugerville, yeah, and soit's pretty cool for him to
throw back to his roots, and no,but hats off to him, because
he's a good kid as well and goodthat he has cemented his legacy
(41:20):
at the University of Texas.
He can go on and do whatever hewants to do.
Also, like Norm said, anybodyin Austin will hire that kid
right now.
He got a pretty healthy careerin front of him in the NFL, but
he always has something back athome waiting for him if he wants
(41:41):
to and needs to.
Speaker 4 (41:43):
I'll tell you what,
norm and Stevie, you can sit,
because you guys Norm, you spentback story real quick.
Norman and I, we first met injunior high.
He moved to Austin for a yearand we connected at.
Martin Junior High on the eastside.
Then he went to Irving where heplayed high school football,
became the number one outsidelinebacker in the country there,
(42:04):
and then we reconnected when hewent to sign by UT and Dave
McWilliams.
And then I went to Stephen FAustin.
But we managed to.
We had a lot of mutual friends.
But you guys can relate to this.
I'm a 5-1-2 boy.
But you guys can relate to this.
I'm a 5'1", 2' boy.
We grew up idolizing theLonghorns.
I can remember from age sixwatching them going to games.
(42:27):
We got to go on the field askids before.
You can't do that now, butthose were the people.
I wanted to be there.
When he said that, it took meback to my childhood.
You know to wear that burntorange.
So that tells me something thatdidn't exist when you were at
Texas, norman.
(42:47):
And that was a lot of the localkids.
Yeah, they kind of like SeanMitchell.
They wanted to go to Texas, jason Reese, but they were
entertaining thoughts like UCLAMiami.
Yeah, now it's cool, let's goto Texas.
Andrew Makuba, transferringback from Clemson.
(43:08):
There's some great stories onthis team.
And now we get to look to 2025.
And I think, before we talkabout that, I think.
David Benda, who's anothergreat story.
I think he's a six-yearlinebacker, a VIP of this
podcast.
Speaker 8 (43:24):
Hey, what a heck of a
game he played.
Speaker 4 (43:26):
Woo Good God or.
Speaker 8 (43:28):
Friday, I'm sorry,
today's Sunday.
What a heck of a game he playedon Friday.
Speaker 4 (43:32):
It's so much fun
watching that kid play Young man
I'll say that have all thefaith in Sark and all the faith
in this team next year.
The standard's been set andthey're going to continue to
build on the standard, so I'mnot worried about anything.
This journey's been phenomenal.
Are you guys?
What concerns optimism?
What's your thoughts as youmove forward?
(43:53):
Because, man, it's anever-ending cycle.
It's always, always looking tobuild the next team, especially
through the portal.
This is what makes me.
Speaker 8 (44:03):
I'm sorry, what are
you?
Speaker 4 (44:04):
asking what are you
asking?
Are you guys concerned?
Speaker 5 (44:08):
About the team.
Speaker 4 (44:09):
About the team the
future, yes, the future.
Speaker 5 (44:12):
Yeah, the future is
bright.
I thought you were asking aboutBenda, but no, the future right
now is bright.
Man, I am so and that's why Igot over this win.
I mean I'm, you know, I wanted,I mean this loss.
I wanted us to go on and playthe national championship game
and this, this and that, but theuniversity of Texas and CDC,
(44:34):
chris Del Conte, they're goingto do everything that they can
to keep this coaching stafftogether because we got some
healthy goal, healthy goals infront of us.
We can do it.
We got all the pieces that weneed.
If yours go away and go to theNFL or go to somewhere else,
(44:59):
that he, whatever he wants to do, arch is waiting and ready.
I think the kid is ready.
He looks like the prototypicalquarterback.
Tall, he's going to get bigger.
With Strong, yeah, he's goingto get bigger and stronger and
(45:19):
faster.
With shoot Coach Beckton.
Over the offseason, coach isgoing to open up his office of
genius to put in plays made forManning Our defense.
We got a lot of guys comingback and the guys that we're
(45:42):
losing, we know how to plugpeople in.
We might have to go to theportal to get some people on
defense and maybe I don't eventhink of any receivers or
anything like that and ourrunning backs will be back right
.
The future is bright.
I'm looking forward to it.
It's going to be fun and Ican't wait to go to spring ball
(46:03):
in a couple of months.
Speaker 8 (46:06):
Let me just echo
Stevie's sentiments.
I'm going to tell you howexcited I am about this team
next season.
I've already started looking athotels reservations for
Columbus, ohio, literallyyesterday, and I'm planning on
(46:27):
going to Columbus, I'm planningon going to Georgia and I'm
planning on going to Florida andI don't miss a home game.
I'm just telling you I am soexcited about the future of this
team and here's the beauty ofit, sean and Stevie, the future
(46:48):
is now yeah, and to what Steviejust said, I can't wait to see
this young man, arch Manning, and not only him, but we got
some young players.
Can you imagine another yearwith a guy like Colin Simmons in
the offseason, getting stronger, getting a little bigger,
getting refined in his skill set?
(47:09):
Can you imagine he's going tobe like Von Miller?
Yeah, in college, you guysremember Von Miller when he was
at A&M.
He was unstoppable.
I mean, you guys, think aboutit.
We got true fresh.
I'm going to tell you kid.
I'm going to tell you anotherkid Jelani McDonald.
Speaker 4 (47:24):
The DB.
Speaker 8 (47:26):
I mean, and then we
got some guys.
Now, especially with the waythat the landscape of college
football is now, we got guysthat were supposed to be high
school seniors that are now oncampus.
That are studs, that are fivestars that we will see.
As you know, now they got afull offseason to get ready to
(47:49):
play.
Speaker 4 (47:51):
Yep A couple of them
were in Texas jerseys on the
field last night.
Speaker 8 (47:56):
Guys, it's an
exciting time to be a Longhorn
Yep, it really truly is on theline.
Speaker 4 (48:09):
Yep, it really truly
is.
So the season ended with thatlost Ohio State.
I think it's laughable, it'sfunny, but the season next year
starts at Ohio State.
Just pick right back up.
Hey, welcome Arch Manning.
If Quinn is in fact leaving, arch, just get right in there in
the horseshoe and do what VinceYoung did.
And I forgot the streak whenVince Young stepped in.
(48:29):
There was a streak that heended that a non-conference
opponent had not won at OhioState in a long time.
Arch, welcome to Game 1 as astarter at the shoe in Columbus
Ohio, at the shoe in ColumbusOhio.
Hey, leads me to the questionTo the viewers, listeners, all
(48:51):
you fine Americans, you knowthat watch and listen to this
podcast.
What are your expectations forthe Longhorns in 2025?
We'll go around the horn withNorman.
Speaker 8 (49:04):
What's your
expectation In regards to wins
and losses or just in general?
Just in general, from the team?
I think we have a shot to beright back where we're at right
now in a championship game withthe team that we have.
We're going to get a few moretransfers to fill in some areas
where we have some depth issuespotentially, but I think the
(49:26):
core of our team we have a shotto be right back in the mix of
things from a championshipstandpoint.
Plan first and foremost plan SECchampionship and then advancing
, and then plan for the bigaward, the national championship
.
Speaker 4 (49:41):
But, stevie, you feel
the same way I feel exactly the
same way.
Speaker 5 (49:45):
I feel exactly the
same way.
I think that, uh, the winner ofthe texas ohio state game is
going to, or is going to, go andwin the national championship,
which I think ohio state willwin, um, and so the next game
that we have to play is ohiostate, and heavy is the head
(50:05):
that wears the crown.
They all have the crown ontheir head and we're going to go
knock it off in their place, and so that will submit us to
say let's go finish this seasonRun through the SEC.
It's going to be tough goingback through Georgia, and
Florida is not a slouch.
They're getting better.
Vanderbilt, they got to come tous now Somehow.
(50:28):
They had our number, but wepulled it out.
Who else we got on the schedulenext year?
A&M and Arkansas at DK A&M'sgoing to want to get some
revenge on us, then Arkansasalways that rival that they
think that we're their rival.
Get through that.
(50:49):
The goal is to win the SEC, andthen you know, but winning the
SEC also gives you that firstround bye, right.
Right, we have to talk aboutthat the way this committee set
up this playoff, because everyfirst round bye team lost, right
, because 24 days off for afootball team is not good, and
(51:13):
so I think that's partly why allthe first round by teams got
out of there.
They lost.
You need to tune up games, butif we do get a first round by, I
think SART has seen the formulaand make sure that we get some
really good practice into thattime.
So I think everything's infront of us for next year.
We are championship game orbust for me, man.
Speaker 4 (51:35):
Okay.
You got to look out for SamHouston.
They won 10 games this year atthe FBS level.
They're coming to Austin too.
Speaker 8 (51:42):
I'm going to give you
guys.
This one little nuance too, guys.
I think that we will see anuptick in our scoring on the
offensive side of the ball.
With the way Manning has areally nice touch on the deep
ball and with him being asmobile as he is, I think you're
going to start seeing thatreally, all gas, no brakes.
(52:05):
I think you're going to see anthat really no, uh, all gas, no
brakes.
I think you're going to see aoffense that we haven't seen in
a while here that it's going tobe super exciting to watch, yeah
, and you're.
It's going to showcase a lot ofplaymakers, right?
Speaker 4 (52:17):
so I, I agree with
that.
Yeah, maybe if.
And then my, my advice for thefans let the grow.
There's going to be some downmoments.
He's not going to be successfulevery play, but we know how it
is to be a starting quarterbackin Texas.
Ask Quinn Ewers about that.
Unfortunately, before we wrapup this first segment, because
the second segment is going tobe lightning fast, our boy, nate
(52:40):
Boyer, former Longhorn, he doesa lot, smart guy, he's funny,
he's teamed up and we havepartnered here with Stories
Inside the man Cave with EightPrimal Meats.
They harvest their meats on aranch or farm in Weimer, texas,
just southeast of Austin, andyou're going to see why, through
Nate's recent promo, how thisis going to fit in well with
(53:04):
Stories Inside the man Cave.
Speaker 6 (53:05):
Here in Texas, we
take care of our meat every
single inch.
Promo how this is going to fitin well with stories inside the
man cave.
Here in texas, we take care ofour meat every single inch thick
, juicy, delicious eight primalno hormones, no antibiotics, no
bullshit feed the american inchThick and juicy.
Speaker 5 (53:29):
Hey, hey, man
Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (53:34):
Yeah, you're off.
Speaker 8 (53:37):
Every time I see Nate
, or see him in person or on
camera, I feel like he should beon that show.
What's the big show that hit itbig out in Montana, the country
western Yellowstone?
Speaker 5 (53:53):
Yellowstone man.
Speaker 8 (53:54):
I feel like Nate
should be on Yellowstone man, I
feel like he should be, I mean, and I love the guy.
I'm a big fan of Nate.
I've met him a few times andwe've had some pretty good
conversations, but I totally seehim on a show like Yellowstone.
Yeah, he's perfect.
Speaker 4 (54:10):
So I've got a meat
box from them.
I've only tried the chicken, but I'm not saying this because
we're partners now.
Best chicken breasts, cause Ilove my breast.
Speaker 2 (54:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (54:23):
And he's a primal
More than a handful.
Speaker 8 (54:27):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (54:28):
Very juicy, smoky,
delicious.
Be thinking about this Name, abody part that starts the letter
T and that's coming up insegment two.
We'll see you on the other side.
Speaker 2 (54:41):
Here at Hard Grow
Roofing we try to think outside
the box, to kind of get thecreative juices flowing.
So I brought in my friendStevie Lee, former defensive
tackle for the Texas Longhorns.
He's going to help the teamstrategize, really motivate them
, light a fire.
Speaker 5 (54:55):
This guy's going to
block down.
This guy's going to block down.
You put your butt into theguard and that way my Mike
Linebacker gets free to do what.
Speaker 2 (55:05):
Not only are they
going to learn a thing or two,
but they're going to also leavewith a great attitude and a
bunch of smiles on their faces.
Speaker 3 (55:12):
I'm sorry.
What does this have to do withroofing exactly?
Get out Right now.
Speaker 5 (55:19):
I said get out.
Speaker 2 (55:23):
For me, that's what
it's all about.
It's just having fun making ouremployees have a great time.
Hargrove Roofing Know who's onyour roof.
Speaker 4 (55:49):
So Steve Harvey does
a great job on hosting anything
except for Miss Universe onetime, but absolutely hilarious,
makes it fun and Family Feud isa must-watch sometimes.
And on our TikToking in the manCave, steve Harvey provided us
the laughter on this one plusthe gas Tell me a part of the
body that begins with the letterT, titties, it's true, without
(56:19):
hesitation.
Speaker 8 (56:21):
And he saw absolutely
nothing wrong.
Speaker 5 (56:26):
Everybody's thinking
it.
Speaker 4 (56:30):
I mean, what are you
supposed to say?
T.
He teed him up with T.
Speaker 5 (56:34):
He teed him up, but
tibia.
Speaker 4 (56:38):
Oh tibia.
Speaker 5 (56:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (56:39):
That's a good one.
Toes, huh, toes, toes, yeah,triceps, I'm a feet man, I'm a
feet man, by's toes, huh, Toes, toes, yeah, triceps I'm a feet

Speaker 8 (56:50):
I like toes.
You're a pediatrist.
Speaker 5 (56:53):
Yeah, I'm going to
call you Rex Ryan.
Speaker 8 (56:56):
No don't call me Rex
now.
Speaker 4 (57:01):
He's well-documented,
rex loves.
Hey, I have a little footfetish myself there you go.
Not going to lie.
Not going to lie.
Hey, man Tell me something good.
Norman Watkins, longtimebrother Stevie Lee a brother.
Well, we are both my brothers, but we'll begin with the VIP,
(57:26):
the Norman Watkins.
Tell me something good, mybrothers.
We'll begin with the VIP, theNorman Watkins.
Tell me something good, mybrother 2025.
Speaker 8 (57:34):
Be bold, have no
