Speaker 2 (00:31):
Hi, I'm Stevie Lee, former defensive tackle for the
University of Texas, and I'mClyde Hargrove.
I'm a roofer.
I also saw action in 52 gamesand I fixed a lot of roofs, also
won a Rose Bowl and never lostto A&M and I fixed a lot of
roofs, right, stevie, alrightalright.
And never lost to A&M.
And I fix a lot of roofs, right, stevie?
Oh, right, right.
I'm sorry I zoned out a littlebit.
So are you going to say thething about Hargrove Roofing?
Hargrove Roofing, know who's onyour roof?

(00:54):
Is this even going?

Speaker 1 (00:55):
to work as a commercial.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Stevie, I always thought that you slammed that
ball a little too hard into MrHargrove's abdominal region.
You know that's probably takenumber 20 right there.
So he went home bruised man.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Clyde's a good dude, good people, the entire Hargrove
family.
We're going to talk about them.
Hardgrove family, we're goingto talk about them.
But as you know, I know for alot of kids who are in school
age kids, college whatnot, andeven some parents our age it is
spring break season.
But spring break also coincideswith another special time of

(01:39):
year.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Things you have to do this time of year.
You did them this time of year.
Right now you finish and youadvance.
Great job tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Stay together, keep working.
Rodney Terry, the embattledhead coach.
A lot of rumors about hisfuture at Texas, but, man, they
got it done.
A lot of losses, a lot ofquality wins it done, uh.
A lot of losses, a lot ofquality wins.
They won two at the sectournament and that was just

(02:12):
enough to get them in toexperience march madness.
Uh, I am sean clinch.
Uh, the co-host of the passrusher, stevie lee, and the host
of stories inside the man cave.
That's our guy, stevie lee.
He is the co-host of the, thenamesake of this series of shows
, march madness, the texaslonghorns.
We're gonna dive deeper into it, but your initial reaction to

(02:33):
this special, special, two tothree weeks as we crown the
champion of college basketballlater and later into the month
of april and it's March Madness.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
It's going to be fun, man.
I will tell y'all this thewinner of the national
championship of this NCAAtournament is going to come out
of Texas.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
Oh, okay, okay, I will say that you know what I'm
going to shock you withsomething later in the show.
That, I think, validates that.
But you don't need me tovalidate you because, stevie,
he's a positive guy and he'salso a pretty sharp guy and he
played for Mack Brown, so yougot to be a sharp guy.
Yeah, stevie Lee, we lovetalking about all of our

(03:23):
sponsors, but we love the onewho really takes care of us for
this one Hargrove Roofing.
Take it the face of HargroveRoofing, the Stevie Lee.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
I don't know if I'm the face of Hargrove Roofing.
I think Billy does a good jobat that.
But Hargrove Roofing, you knowwho's on your roof.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Let's dig deep into March.
Madness, you ready?
Stevie Lee, let's do it, let'sride.
The key to our three-point linedefense is I got bigs that can

(04:12):
get out there and guard guards.
I got bigs that can get outthere and guard guards.
And my guards aren't pussies.
They're going to go down thereand bang a little bit.
You know they're.
That's good to go.
Bruce Pearl dropped the.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
B-bomb, that's me man .

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Hey, no filter, and they are the number one overall
seed of this field of 68, BrucePearl and the Auburn Tigers your
thoughts when you heard that, man, but you know Auburn lost
three of their last four, Ibelieve.
Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Auburn lost three of their last four, I believe.
Yeah, I don't know, man.
It's just, you know, for headcoaches sometimes they got to be
a little koofed on camera, butfor a player and see his coach
come up and defend them likethat they're going to run
through a brick wall for him.
He was fired up right there, man.
So you know, I don't have aproblem with it.

(05:04):
We hear it every day.
Yeah we hear it.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
It's not like oh my God, oh, I can't hear that word.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
It's got little old ladies clutching their pearls.
You know, Bruce Pearl.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
Ah, got you.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
Yeah, and it's.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
We live in a soft world, you know, sometimes, but
it is refreshing to hear.
But I even jolted a little bit.
What did he drop?
That?
But he did but unbelievable.
Auburn, one of 14 sec schoolswhich received our programs,
which received bids to the ncaatournament, record 14.

(05:43):
They might as well should havejust gone ahead and invited
everybody of the 16.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
No question, man, and when I was pulling out my
bracket, I started looking.
I was like there's another one,there's another one, there's
another one.
But we'll see how it works out, though, man, you know,
sometimes there's a lot of hype.
So there's some other goodschools out there that's going
to play some really goodbasketball.

(06:08):
I'm looking forward to it thisweek.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
I am too.
I am too, and it had to havebeen a really tough for the NCAA
selection committee because, historically speaking, what they
try to do is avoid havingconference teams face each other
in the first two rounds.
They try to avoid it.
I mean, in the second round youcould potentially have Florida,

(06:31):
oklahoma, kentucky and Texasand Alabama and Vandy in round
two.
So when you have 20.5% of thefield of 68 from the same
conference man, that's going tobe tough to avoid having those
second round matchups.
It's just, it's a tough job.
But I did not anticipate theSEC having the year that they've

(06:56):
had and we're going to talkmore about that.
This is episode 454.

(07:17):
Podcast YouTube page.
All right, we talked about 14teams.
Texas and Oklahoma both got inwith 12 conference losses 6-12.
You know, you and I talkedabout it, we thought 9-9, 8-10
would get them in, but that'sthe most conference losses by

(07:39):
any of the at-large bid.
The teams that receivedat-large bids.
I mean, do you think it'sjustified that both of them got
in with 12 conference losses outof 18 games?

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Yeah, the conference is just stacked this year.
Man, the SEC is just good.
It's just kind of in basketball, a little bit of head and
shoulders over the rest of themright now.
So that's okay.
That's okay.
So you know, having them get init just shows you how deep the

(08:18):
SEC is.
It was fun to watch every SECgame this year.
I can't say that about anyother conferences.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
No, I mean the Big 12 , still solid, without Texas and
Oklahoma Not as powerful asthey were.
Even Kansas had 12 losses thisyear, and one of which the Big
12 teams are, you know, and it'snot who you think it is.
It's going to be one of myfinal four picks, but Texas will
start out in a play-in game, the first four, as they call it

(08:50):
in Dayton Two 11 seed and two 16seeds.
The two 16 seeded teams there'sfour 16 seeds, of course, and
four 11 seeds.
Why it's like this, I'm reallynot sure, but they're having the
two 11 seeds, who essentiallyare from big power basketball
conferences, play in, so tospeak.

(09:13):
They're a part of the field of68.
Texas will face Xavier inDayton on Wednesday and the
winner will get Brad Underwood, the former Stephen F Austin head
coach, then Oklahoma State.
Then to Illinois, texas willplay Xavier for the right to
play the fight in the Illini, the next game.

(09:33):
What's your take on this?
I mean, this is a new season inmy opinion.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
It is a new season and we got talent man.
New season.
In my opinion, it is a newseason and we got talent man.
I don't know that we alwayshave them in the right place
where they need to be.
I think we got the talent there.
I don't think we have as muchlength as other schools and

(10:03):
things like that, but we gotquickness.
I don't know.
It's going to be interesting towatch.
I did my bracket today.
Sadly, I did not have us goingthat deep.
Paul, that's what she said.
That's what she did say she saidit a lot, Stevie Paul, that's

(10:25):
what she said that's what shedid say.
So I don't know.
So I was happy and the ESPNbracket that I did it did not.
I didn't have to choose Xavieror Texas, None of them yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
So did you think Texas will get past Xavier?
I was hoping you didn't ask methat question.
I think they're going to be infor a battle.
They've had some battles in theNIT, the NCAA tournament,

(11:02):
dating back to the running horns, tom Penders.
I think it was the 89-90 season.
Texas was down big and theycame back to win and they got to
the Elite Eight that year, butthat past has no, no, no factor
on current.
I think, though I think Texaswins Texas beats Xavier.

(11:23):
Yeah, and I do, and I also think, because Illinois has been
banged up all year out of theBig Ten, don't be surprised if
you see Texas advance seriouslyafter Illinois.
I mean I think they can handlethese first two games Okay.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
Okay, okay, okay, okay, let's do it.
That's not what I have.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
That's fine, and I'm not being just this optimistic
guy that has blinders on or theburnt orange wool over my eyes.
I mean Texas.
You got to admit what Texasmissed this year was Kendall
Weaver.
He's been hurt almost allseason.
He's back.
They're a different team withhim in the lineup.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
Okay, okay, yeah.
So all right, I'll put us overXavier for sure.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
Okay, they're going to get at least one win.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
One win.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
Probably the play-in.
I say they make it to the roundof 32 against probably Kentucky
a rematch, Okay and Texas Ibeat them this year, but I think
they make it to the round of 32.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
Got you.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
But is that?
Enough to save Rodney's job,ooh.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
I don't think so.
I really don't.
I wish it was, I wish it was.
But Rodney's a nice guy, lovehim man, met him a couple times.
Great dude, he's Texas throughand through.
But I just don't think so.
I think that there's some youngtalent out there that can coach

(13:14):
.
Or old talent I'm coach.
Or old talent, I'm sorry.
Or old talent, yeah, that'strue.
Yeah, and so you know, I think, that they're wanting to make a
change, to get some fresh eyeson the program.
So when I went to the last homegame and I I enjoyed it.

(13:39):
We lost that game, but Ienjoyed the last home game and I
enjoyed seeing rodney on thesideline.
Then I thought it's probablyhis last home game, that's I
really think that's a good

Speaker 3 (13:51):
observation um I'd hate to see it, but something's
missing.
I don't know what it is.
Maybe it's the combination oftalents I mean, these kids are
talented but we've said itbefore, there's something
missing and I don't know what itis.
You've got one of the top fivebest players in the country in
Trey Johnson, yeah.
But I want to say this I thinkit would look that optics would

(14:16):
be horrible if Texas wins theplaying game, then beats
Illinois and then bows out inthe round of 32 or, dare I say,
goes to sweet 16 and loses.
Come on man, you can't fire acoach from the sweet 16 or even
the round of 32.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
No, you can't for the round of 32.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
You can fire anybody, but it's just to be in there.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
The round of 32, I think you still can, but you
have a point with the round of16, the Sweet 16.
Okay, yeah, you have a point.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
Rodney Terry has won four NCAA tournament games.
That's a lot more than ShakaSmart and even Rick Barnes in
his last few years.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
Yeah, but.

Speaker 3 (15:05):
Rick.
Well, Rick has skins on thewall.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
Yeah, yeah, and Rick has a bunch of players that he
brought to the University ofTexas and put in the NBA.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
They probably could play NFL as well they probably
could.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
Durant can be a great receiver, how long he is Tied
in, no one would get around him.
No no.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
Hey, you talked about young talent and coaching.
I said old talent.
But Rick Pitino, you know, keepan eye on those guys, they're
the 2C.
I mean, this is an old schoolguy who coached at Providence,
kentucky, and has taken a lot ofprograms to some big places
Louisville championship, pedigree, after they won their

(15:58):
conference tournament.
You know he's Irish.
Well, he's not Irish.
Patino is not Irish, but theywere asking him how he was going
to celebrate because he's a 2CCoach.
How do you celebrate tonight?
How do you celebrate tonight?
I'm going to drink a quart ofJameson's St Patty's thing For
you.
A quart, a quart, huh, a quart.

(16:20):
That's a lot of JamesonIrishman A lot of Jameson.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
But he deserves it, man he does he deserves it.

Speaker 3 (16:29):
He's one of those guys that he gets.
He develops players, teams, whatnot, and does a great job.
I mean always.
So St John's, I think they'vegot as good a chance to anybody
to go to the Final Four, andthat leads us to this.
You know, you always talk aboutin the NCAA tournament, when

(16:50):
you pick your brackets, upsetpotential, and it's almost
always those 3-14, 4-13, and5-12 seeds.
These are the upset potentialthat I have in this first round.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
Mm-hmm.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
Yale.
Don't be surprised if Yaleupsets the Aggies.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
Golly, I almost picked Yale, but I did not.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
I didn't.
It's going to be an interestingmatchup, lipscomb, and I think
I misspelled it.
Lipscomb, did I misspell that?

Speaker 2 (17:29):
Lipscomb.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
And Iowa State.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
L-I-P-S.
No, you spoke it correctly.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
Oh, it just doesn't look right, but Iowa State could
be in trouble.

Speaker 1 (17:41):
One team.

Speaker 3 (17:42):
I like that I've seen from out west.
Colorado State 12 versus 5.
Memphis is a really good teamand then Drake versus Missouri.
Watch out for Purdue.
I really enjoyed watching whatI saw from this 13-seed high
point versus Purdue.

(18:02):
I mean Stephen F Austin made aliving as a 12 and 13-seed and
pulled off some upsets, andthere's been plenty more.
Look at Virginia Commonwealth.
I think they when Shaka Smartwas there, I think they were 11
or 12 seed and made it all theway to the Final Four.
This is where you make a bigname for yourself in bracket

(18:24):
picking Mm-hmm.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
What I did is I got two upsets Okay.
I got Vanderbilt Okay, two bigupsets.
I got Vanderbilt over St.

Speaker 3 (18:40):
Mary's, I took them in one of my brackets.
Mm-hmm, sec.
I mean it's not a big upset.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
It's just an upset, but my biggest upset is Utah
State over UCLA.

Speaker 3 (18:53):
Potential man Utah State, Utah.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
State number 10.
Oh wait, man, Utah State number10.
Oh wait, no, I'm sorry.
Yeah, and UCLA is number seven, but I thought I had some bigger
ones in there.
Yeah, that's it.
That's it.
Those are my big upsets, thebiggest upsets, I think.

Speaker 3 (19:14):
No, that's you know, you know and you always.
Those 13 and 14 seeds are sodangerous, yeah.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
Not all of them, but some.

Speaker 3 (19:26):
Yeah, and it's just, it's historic, especially the
last 10 to 15 years.
And then Did you do yourbracket?
I've done three of them.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
You've done three of them.
Did you do your bracket?
I've done three of them.
You've done three of them.

Speaker 3 (19:42):
How many of them came out with the same champion my
champion.
Majority of them is Tennessee.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
Really.
Yeah, I like Rick too, man, Ido.
But I got Rick.
That means, did you have himplaying Houston at some point?

Speaker 3 (20:02):
Yes, and I also have him playing Auburn an all-SEC
championship game.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
See, I don't see Tennessee getting past Houston.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
Houston's legit Kelvin Sampson's doing a
fantastic job with them.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
And remember I told you guys in the beginning of the
show, there's a team that'sgoing to win the national
championship out of Texas.

Speaker 3 (20:31):
Okay, well, here's my pick out of Texas.

Speaker 1 (20:35):
Okay, texas Tech.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
Texas Tech Texas Tech Texas Tech Okay.

Speaker 3 (20:44):
They've got to carry that momentum though, because
they as good as they are andCoach McCaslin's done a
phenomenal job up there inLubbock but as good as they are,
they have their deficiencies, like almost all teams.
When Texas Tech gets rollingthat momentum I mean they've had

(21:04):
some experience here the last, especially Chris Beard playing
on a Monday night They've got agood resume of what this program
can do.
I mean Texas Tech in the FinalFour shouldn't shock anybody
Playing on that Monday night.
That may shock some people, butI see Tech potentially being

(21:29):
that team from Texas.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
Yeah, see, I don't see Texas Tech getting past the
SEC team out of Missouri.
Okay, yeah, so a Big 12 and SECteam meets up.
I'm taking the SEC team rightnow, you've seen enough of them.
Yeah, so I got Missouri takingdown Texas Tech.

(21:52):
But my team I'll give you halfof my final four and that's
Auburn and St John's.

Speaker 3 (22:03):
Oh, you do.
So you do like St John's, yepOkay.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
Yep, I got Auburn and St John's, and then you want my
other four.
Other two Yep, I got Alabamaand Houston.

Speaker 3 (22:22):
Perfect Houston's good man and, if anyone, I have
not been to a game atHawthorne's Pavilion since they
renovated it, but they've got agreat environment there.
Innovated it, but they've got agreat environment there.
Samson Kelvin Samson and hisson have done a great job with
that program.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
Yeah, and they've been consistent, I think it's
the third straight year they'vebeen a number one seed.
Now I am kind of torn on who'swinning against Alabama or, I'm
sorry, Auburn and St John's.

(23:04):
Who wins that game to go on toplay Houston?

Speaker 3 (23:05):
Yeah, I tell you who I got, but I'm hey we'll stick
with Final Four and then nextweek or the week after we'll see
what you got.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
Okay, yeah, all right , let's do that.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
Yeah, but I like Auburn to pick it up or
Tennessee.
I think Houston makes it to theFinal Four for sure.
They're that good.
I mean they're doing thiswithout Shed from Austin.
Shed is doing things in the NBAnow.
Yeah, but we want you, you'vegot.
You're just hours away from thedeadline.
We've done this now three years.

(23:42):
Last year we had 56 entries andthe winner.
I couldn't get a hold of him, could not get a hold of him,
could not get a hold of him.

Speaker 3 (25:33):
Hey, I've got faith in you.
Hey, you know the women's NCAAtournament.
There should be more paritythan there ever has been.
And those Texas ladies, man, what a team 30-win regular
season, a number one, one of thefour number one seeds.
They're going to be playing athome for the first two rounds

(25:55):
and Vic Schaefer has done aphenomenal job.
He justifies why this team canwin the whole damn thing.
This tournament is singleelimination.
It's six games.
How many times have we won sixin a row?

Speaker 2 (26:07):
A bunch.
So that, to me, is where we'reat right now.

Speaker 3 (26:12):
So let's go win six.
I love it, why not?

Speaker 2 (26:17):
Six more games.
That's all you need.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
I mean seriously, why not?
Yep, I mean number one seed.
They're going to host the firsttwo rounds at the mood and this
is what it looks like for them.
It's going to be a late, late, late, late tip-off on saturday.
They are going to tip offtentatively at 8 45 pm yeah,

(26:44):
there's a late game, but it'sokay, they'll be fine're going
to face the winner of High Point, or William and Mary.

Speaker 2 (26:51):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (26:52):
Which Texas will probably dispose of them.
By what do you say?
Over under 40-point victory, under Under really.

Speaker 2 (27:02):
This is a grueling time.
He'll take his starters out andlet the other girls play.
Let some younger girls play andlet the other girls play.
Let some younger girls play, and you know, if they get under
30 or get close to 20 points, they'll put the starters back in
.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, but they need to come outhigh and then rest up because

(27:23):
they got to turn around and playagain, you know.

Speaker 3 (27:26):
And if they win which they will more than likely on
Monday nights they'll face thewinner of Creighton, illinois.
Win that they go to the secondweekend, the round of 16, elite
Eight, and they'll play that inBirmingham, alabama.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
Good stuff.

Speaker 3 (27:42):

The great outdoors of Austin, texas, you really got
to.
When I got out of college, austin was ranked one of the
fittest cities in America andprobably still at the top of
that list as well, because wehave so much great outdoors.
Dude, just go to Lady Bird Lakeand experience the hike and

(35:20):
bike walk trail.
You can do whatever you want onthis trail, but it goes all the
way around the beautiful LadyBird Lake.
You can stand up paddleboardout there.
They have boat rentals that youcan take a little boat that
looks like a 57 Chevrolet out onthe water.
It's in the middle of the city.

(35:40):
You look on one side, you gotthe Austin skyline.
You look on the other side, youhave the Long Center and Zilker
Park and things like that.
So it's just a world-class citythat you can do all these fun
activities in the middle of thecity, city central.
And when you get off the water, when you get off the trail,

(36:05):
there's plenty of places to goand hang out and eat and have a
beer and have a cocktail and bewith the people in Austin, texas
.
That's my pro tip Just enjoythe town that you live in.
If you don't live here, come onin, have a good time.

But isn't there more boats thatgo around, that like speed
boats that are around there?
