Speaker 2 (00:32):
Outro Music Stevie Lee.

(00:58):
It's here.
We saw what the big seasonstarted at Ohio State.
But it's a little different forany fan base when you get to
see your first home game.
Quick summary, man, just notreally the game, but getting
back and seeing that atmosphereat DKR, I mean you and I passed
each other.
We took the complimentarypicture, had a few beverages.

(01:20):
We were very thirsty onSaturday.
Summarize your day.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Great day, man.
You and I started out at thetailgate.
We took a very nice picture.
I'm upset that I don't see ityet.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
It's up.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
It's up Okay, Got a good picture going.
Got in the stadium.
A man Cave alum, Phillip Geiger, was with me and he had his son
with him, so we sat together inour regular seats.
Man, it was a beautiful day.
It rained a little bit.
My little niece came over.
She's a junior at Texas.

(01:59):
I took her up to the tea roomand then came back out to the
stadium.
Had a really good time.
It was a lot of fun.
The atmosphere was fantastic.
I don't even know what kind ofplane that was for the flyover.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
B-1.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
It was a what B-1 bomber?
It was a B-1 bomber.
Those bombers, they come out ofShreveport sometimes.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
They do.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
That's right yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
So it flew over?
Yeah, so it flew over.
It was loud as hell.
Gave you goosebumps.
The atmosphere was great.
The the game day experience hasbeen really top notch last few
years at Texas, especially for anight game.
Yeah, it's, it's, it's reallyreally fun, really fun to be
there.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
It was.
Thank God.
I was glad I didn't wear awhite shirt, or I would have
been.
I probably would have finishedthird in a wet t-shirt contest
because it did rain for a littlebit.
But hey, we even got to do anindirect tribute to the Ice Cube
because we did see the lightsof the Goodyear blimp.
I hadn't seen the Goodyearblimp in over 20 years.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Yeah, as I was walking up to the stadium, I saw
the blimp up there and that'sthe first thing that I thought
of was Ice Cube, but I alwayssubstitute Ice Cube name for my
name.
Stevie Lee's a pimp.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
That's right, 100%.
You are, hey, coming up on thisepisode.
We're going to break down alittle bit of the game.
That was san jose state, thehome opener, 38 to 7, and I
think this soundbite right herefrom sark really summarized the
the part.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
That kind of red alerts everybody, 12 penalties
here we had holdings on theinterior line, we had a roughing
the passer, we jumped off sideson defense, and so it was kind
of across the board.
Um, which to me is you know, Imy foot's gotta get in their
butt here on monday morning likethat's unacceptable
unacceptable.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
This is monday.
He.
He is uh real quick.
When you have a game like that.
What was it like for you as aplayer when you guys committed
all types of uh miscues and hadyellow flags thrown all over the
stat sheet?

Speaker 3 (04:11):
uh, we didn't have games like that, wow you were
perfect.
I forgot no, so, um, I don'tremember.
I'm sure we did have games likethat I'm joking, but I don't
remember what we did.
I do know that we preacheddiscipline and Mad Dog was all

(04:31):
disciplinarian.
So I think that really beingfocused and getting everything
out of your head and playing thegame that's in front of you and
being disciplined on everythingthat you do on the field, I
think you've got to get back tothe kind of fundamentals with
that part.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Well, we're going to talk about that and we're going
to introduce a new segment witha former Longhorn receiver,
great and good friend of mine, who I really, really have had
the utmost respect, still in thesports media, still doing great
things in San Antonio, and hecovers the Cow respect, still in
the sports media, still doinggreat things in San Antonio, and
he has these covers the Cowboysand we're going to get an idea

(05:12):
of what he may think about theCowboys moving forward and the
potential of what the downtownarea of San Antonio might become
.
I think the voters in SanAntonio want it, I think.
I think, stevie, are you ready?
Let's ride?
Let's ride, baby, let's ride.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Let's ride.
I thought it was sloppy on mypart.
Can't turn the ball over.
In the red area I kind of madesome throws where the Demons had
a chance to pick, which theydidn't, so you've got to play
better.
I think all around it was alittle sloppy.

Speaker 6 (06:02):
One quick follow-up.
One quick follow-up let's talkabout your connection with
Parker no-transcript player.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
He's been a touchdown machine lately.
I feel like we have a goodconnection, it's just only going
to grow.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
There was a moment where they showed you grimacing.
You let go of the ball andfollowed the middle.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Do you deal with something pain-wise or anything
like that?
No, no, I've got to make makethat throw.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Okay, stevie, you heard that Sark is I mean,
excuse me, arch clearly humble, taking responsibility, being a
leader.
I think I heard in that lastquestion are you hurt at all?
Reason why he couldn't makecertain throws.
Did you hear what Sark had tosay today?

(06:44):
No, I didn't.
Okay, he was asked if peoplewere observing the winces on
Archer's face, if he's been hurt, and this was Sark's response
to that.
This is classic.

(07:04):
This is going to be one ofthose soundbites we'll probably
play several times.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
Is there an explanation to why he looked
like that?

Speaker 4 (07:13):
I don't know.
I've never filmed any of youguys when you're using the
bathroom, so I don't know whatfaces you make when you're doing
that.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
So what movie?
There's a certain movie, I'llsay friday, when craig's dad's
in the restroom making all thosefaces while he's on the toilet
and he said don't go in therefor 35, 45 minutes yep, yep,
house, oh, house party um fridayone.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
hey, right though, but we do have eyes and he is
wincing after his throws.
But I mean, I understand Coachis protecting his quarterback
and the narrative out there, butwe saw it, so we got to ask,
you know.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
Hey, before we move forward and bring in our new
segment with a man kvip alumni,be sure to follow us on all
social media, very active now.
And we have to give a shout outto our title sponsor and they
do a lot for us.
They're based out of shreveport, your hometown, hardgrove
roofing.
Stevie, you are the voice andthe unofficial face of hargrove

(08:26):
roofing, correct?

Speaker 3 (08:28):
unofficial face.
Yeah, I guess.
So the actual face was on thefield last night or uh on
saturday.
So that's right, uh, shipley, our uh new, uh nil partner.
So that's, he's the face.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
But hardgrove roofing know who's on your roof people
need to know those shingles arebricky man and hardgrove does it
best.
Hey, let's bring in our newsegment here.
We're going to call themplaymaker 83, playmaker.
All right, our boxes are verysmall.

(09:19):
There's Mike Adams.
He's Playmaker 83, played forJohn McEvick A lot of great
receivers.
Mike Adams, you're inadministration, a principal in
Pflugerville ISD, but you'restill very knowledgeable of the
game.
Are those winces on Arch's face?
And I don't know if anyonewants to see anyone's face looks

(09:43):
on their faces of what they maylook like in the restaurant?

Speaker 7 (09:51):
Friday Need to come back 30, 45 minutes, all-time
great movie, all-time greatmovie.
But to answer your question, no, those winches aren't good.
When I saw the replays of it orsaw the tweets that were out
there and I'm like, man, that'snot normal, that's not known for

(10:13):
a quarterback, and it just mademe think about, you know, a
quarterback that was close to mea few years ago.
He was kind of dealing with alittle arm injury or whatever.
Turned out he had a minorfracture, oh, near his grope
plate.
I'm talking about my own sonwhen his junior year, before he
started, mike your take on.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
What do you think is holding back Wingo?

Speaker 7 (10:36):
man.
You know, I think the uh, and Ithink saturday actually might
have been the best thing for umparker, livingston kind of
getting into the action,becoming that.
You know I don't want to callhim wide receiver one right now,
but he certainly was this pastgame and and actually I guess
you could say, even though I'llsay game he scored the only
touchdown from the group.

(10:56):
So right now he is widereceiver one.
But I think all those pressurespreseason were put on Wingo,
you know, and in a good way.
I mean, he was expected to kindof, you know, take over from
the guys that left last year.
And you know, sometimes whenyou, when you place that kind of
pressure on yourself and thepressure from the outside and I
don't think it's anything thathe's doing that that's wrong,

(11:17):
even though he had that one drop, but that's no big deal.
I just think getting someoneelse into the action I mean
that's a good thing for him, because now teams are going to
start focusing on Livingston andthe tight end and I think we're
going to see, you know, stillgoing to see a breakout year for
Ryan Wingo.
He's just got to stay patientand not get outside the system,

(11:40):
not trying to do things that henormally would do, got a lot of
football left.
Everyone's finding their grooveright now Offense defense, the
receivers I know you guys talkedabout penalties earlier and
things like that Second ballgame of the year everybody's
trying to find their niche, trying to get sharp, and this is

(12:00):
what these type of games arefor.
When you play San Jose State.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
So yeah, man, Mike, thanks for coming on.
Man, I wanted to ask you alittle bit about Livingston.
How do you feel that he'sprogressing and what do you feel
like he's going to do for therest of the season, and also
Arch's progression how he'sgoing to feel the rest of the
season.
I thought that it was going tobe Arch and Wingo locked in, but

(12:26):
now we're seeing Livingston.
How do you feel about that?

Speaker 7 (12:30):
Well, I just think, as far as Livingston goes, I
think it's good Like I was justalluding to earlier, it's good
that another guy is stepping up.
I mean, obviously, you knoweveryone had their target on who
was going to be wide receiverone.
But even with Wingo, I mean heplayed a little bit last year
but I don't know if he put upthe numbers or even played a lot

(12:53):
to where I would come into theseat and say you know he's going
to be wide receiver one.
I guess the only thing youcould really base that on is
that he played more than theother guys did.
You know, Livingston redshirted, but that's a guy that I
remember.
You know what I was coachingand seeing some of his Twitter
highlights things like that.
I mean that guy went like 21.5into 200 meters.
So I'm not shocked that he'sdoing what he's doing.

(13:15):
He's 6'4", 6'5".
He's doing.
He's six, four, six, fiveplayed great competition up
there in the dfw area.
I mean, obviously they sawsomething in him to to offer him
and saw that he was big timetalent and he's proven to do so.
It wouldn't shock me one bit ifhe continued on the track that
he's continuing.
Matter of fact, it would be adisappointment if he regressed
at this point.
Right, I mean so.

(13:36):
So I I fully expect that andexpect him to continue to make
big plays.
He is a big play, target, fast,long-rangey, and I think now is
the time for, you know, forWingo to actually do what
Livingston is doing now, and Ithink he's going to get the
opportunity to do so.
As far as Arch is going, he hada great game this past game.

(13:59):
I mean I guess I shouldn't saygreat, I mean he was better than
he was against Ohio State.
I mean but he looked good, though I thought he looked good,
I mean to me I love hisescapability.
I mean Arch, I mean I thinkthat's probably his biggest
asset right now and you knowbeing able to get away from
pressure, because we know whenhe sees Georgia, you know being
able to get away from pressurebecause we know when he sees

(14:19):
Georgia.
You know when he sees some, youknow Florida, he's going to see
pressure and that's somethingthat's kind of been, you know,
alluded to the quarterback, youknow position in the last couple
of years.
I mean McQueen wasn't reallyable to escape, you know,
pressure defense.
Arks is going to be able to dothat.
Now I still think he's gettingused to playing the position and
playing it at such a highcaliber, playing the competition

(14:40):
that he's playing.
I mean, I think and nothingagainst high schools he probably
didn't see the looks that hesaw in high school.
He probably didn't see that inLouisiana and being at that high
school, like some of our guyshere in Texas, I mean, and
that's why Texas is known as oneof the top states for
quarterback talent, receivertalent man, with the

(15:01):
seven-on-sevens that are goingon, and all the different looks
and different defenses that ourkids see.
Ours may be a little bit behindsome of our other quarterbacks
that are born right here andbred in this state that are
doing very well.
I mean, I look at a guy likeJohn Mateer.
I mean that guy's right fromthe DFW Metroplex area, you know
, went out of state.
I mean, look at it, I mean thatguy's able to handle pretty much
whatever that you throw at himand he's been in college four

(15:24):
years.
I mean a year longer than Archhas actually.
But I think the competitionthat he's gone against has
really prepared him for themoment.
Arch is going to get better, sopeople just need to take that
with a grain of salt.
I mean, he's going to getbetter.
He's going to continue to growand flourish and develop, but
there's going to be some growingpains.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
I wanted to also ask about Trey Wisner running back,
Maybe doubtful for this week, right, Sean.
Yeah, I've heard, possiblyMaybe doubtful but I want to
hear what you think about thatand how that will impact us.
But I also have a thought aboutthat as well.

Speaker 7 (16:04):
So I got to the game.
Well, I got there right afterkickoff so I saw everything,
heard these guys coming out tosome of those things like that.
And, man, I look, I'm like whyam I seeing all these other
running backs in the game?
I didn't realize that he hadgotten injured.
I didn't either and hearing kindof what you guys are saying, he
may be out for a week or two.
I think, you know, based on theopponents we have coming up,

(16:26):
might not be a bad thing.
Let's go ahead and get him, youknow, healed up 100% before we
go into Florida.
But man, he's someone wedefinitely need.
I mean because I think Baxter, while he appears to be healthy,
100% healthy, or at least I hopehe is we don't want to continue
to wear him down.
You know, if he's not quitehealthy yet, we want to keep
getting him in the game shape.

(16:46):
We want to make sure Weiser isin game shape.
I mean that guy, you know, ledthe team in rushing or was one
of the top rushers last yearwhen Baxter went down.
You know.
Obviously he filled that voidlast year.
I know we got some good youngtalent.
I'd like to see Gibson get somemore carries.
I do too.
We got to make sure Trey ishealthy going into that
Florida-Oklahoma stretch.

(17:06):
That's going to be huge andhopefully it is only a week or
two.

Speaker 3 (17:10):
So I got a little bit of a different take on that man
.
So just a little bit, I agreewith everything you're saying.
But I think that Baxter, he wasactually our guy last year
before he got hurt Right, and soworking back after an injury
like that, getting back in agame shape, you need game

(17:32):
experience.
So I want to see him run more.
I want to see him run the ballmore in the game, more picking
up blitzes, more to be him backin that shape and be our guy
again.
And it's never a bad thing ifyou've got two and three running
backs in our stable.
That can do amazing things.

Speaker 7 (17:52):
Nah, that's exactly right.
But to that point and I waskind of wondering about that too
you raised an interesting point, because Baxter was the guy
last year but he got hurt, wentdown.
Wiseman came in, man filled inadmirably beautifully actually,
and I don't know if I wouldactually say, ok, well, cj's
back now and you know, he wasthe guy before.

(18:13):
I mean that's a thousand yards.
Wiseman put up Big playability,I mean to.
To me that would have been theperfect situation to kind of
ease ours into man.
Let's get both of those guys.
Maximum amount of carries.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
Hey, I promise we'll get those technical difficulties
resolved with the playmaker 83,mike Adams, in the future.

(18:49):
It happens, stevie, when yourely on technology.
Hey, fyi, you may remember thisname when UTEP rolls into
Austin this weekend, their QB1,malachi Nelson.
He was a five-star quarterbackout of high school, signed with
USC, then transferred to BoiseState.
Then he recently transferred toUTEP and he is slinging the

(19:13):
rock, as they say.
I don't know if you rememberhim, but UTEP is a threat
offensively.

Speaker 3 (19:21):
Yeah, I do not remember him, but UTEP is a
threat offensively.
Yeah, I do not remember him.
I vaguely remember him.
I don't remember him from highschool.
I vaguely remember him going toUSC.
So this is actually news to me.
I didn't know that he was atUTEP now.
So this is going to be fun.
A five-star you said he was.
Yeah, yeah, yeah man.
So that's a good talent comingto town and a good challenge for

(19:45):
our defense again.
So let's see it.
Let's see what these DBs can doand hold these receivers down
and then keep this kid contained.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
Just for people's reminder, the Power 12 and 4 on
the outside they're not truerankings, they're ratings, if
you will.
It's margin of victory, marginof defeat.
Where you went, road home, injuries, the sexiness of how
you perform, how did you look?
Everybody loves a good sexfactor, but the new Power 12 and

(20:19):
4 on the outside looks likethis A little bit of movement
and a little bit of movement onthe ones on the outside.
So top six a little bit ofmovement.
I thought what Oregon did toMike Gundy and Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State's not very goodright now, but to put, I think,
69 points on them and abuse them.

(20:41):
They look sexy.
I did move up LSU and Texas.
I think they go down a littlebit to number six because it
wasn't clean.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
I hate it, but I can't argue with it.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
I hear you, because this is just something that
moves up and down how they look.
Body of work, dude, I thinkFlorida State they're up and
look at 11 out of nowhere.
Oklahoma.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
I see Oklahoma going higher.
Man, they basically whippedMichigan this weekend.
I was surprised on how good OUlooked this weekend, so I'm a
little bit more nervous aboutthat Red River rivalry right now
.

Speaker 2 (21:26):
Man, that quarterback Mateer I mean.
For those that don't believe me, look, this is two key plays
from the quarterback Mateer thetransfer from Washington State
and check out their defense.

Speaker 1 (21:40):
Mateer running all the way Gets free Mateer.

Speaker 2 (21:44):
Touchdown Oklahoma.

Speaker 7 (21:47):
That drive was all on the quarterback 3-4 in the
early going Hanks in the slotCaught the ball and Kendall
Daniels hammered him immediately.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
So OU's back for now.
But I will say this they keepthose guys healthy.
It's going to be a competitiveRed River rivalry.
In Dallas Iowa State they beattheir in-state rivals A&M's
hanging in there but they've gota big one, stevie, at Notre
Dame this weekend.
So we went 3-1 in potentialupsets.

(22:20):
We got a whole lot of upsetpotential this week texas state,
who got the big win at thealamo dome against utsa they're
two and, oh they, they hostedarizona state last year who
ended up winning the Big 12 andgave Texas all they could handle

(22:41):
.
Texas State at Arizona Stateare you believing it has an
upset potential?

Speaker 3 (22:51):
Yes, I'm actually taking Texas State.

Speaker 2 (22:55):
Okay, and Vanderbilt is in our power 12-4 on the
outside they're at the Cox.
Vanderbilt it's an SEC game man.
There's something about thiswith Diego Pavia quarterback.
He's like a Johnny Manziel 2.0to me.
You think they have enough togo win in Cocktown I do I do I

(23:22):
do?

Speaker 3 (23:23):
They're going to beat the Cocks.
Yes, I do.
I think I got Vandy.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
Okay, A&M Notre Dame.
Notre Dame took it in CollegeStation last year.
I think Aggies surprisedeverybody.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
Yeah, that's hard at Notre Dame though, man, but I'm
going to get on board with you.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
Okay, yeah, and that doesn't happen often.
Arkansas and Ole Miss.
Man, I think the Hogs areplaying for their coach big time
.

Speaker 3 (23:53):
Yeah, I got.
No, I got Lane Kiffin man.
Okay, I got Lane Kiffin man.
Okay, I got Lane Kiffin.
I want our Kansas to do well.

Speaker 2 (24:06):
Our Kansas.

Speaker 3 (24:10):
So we can beat them when they come here or we go
there this year.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
No, they come here.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
They come here, yeah, so I want them to do.

Speaker 2 (24:17):
Well, we can beat them when they come here, but I
don't see it right now, ken, does Peiple have enough now at
Tennessee to pull off themiraculous upset against Georgia
and Knoxville?

Speaker 3 (24:33):
I think it's time.
I think it's time for them to.
I think they can rise to thatoccasion.
I think Georgia goes down toTennessee.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
All right.
Clemson had a scare with Troy.
Troy's a good programmer hasbeen at that level mid-major
type.
They're my national championpick.
Do they go down in Atlanta?
I think it's possible.

Speaker 3 (24:59):
Just because you picked them as national
champions.
I am going with Georgia Techand rooting for Gideon, their
new defensive coordinator fromTexas, that's right.
They hired him as a defensivecoordinator.
This offseason I'm going withGeorgia Tech man.

(25:20):
That's my guy.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
That's perfect.
Quick thoughts, Stevie.
I thought the Dallas Cowboysopener in Philly was a little
bit better than anyone everanticipated.
It was close.
The offense has a lot of juice.
Defense clearly is not good yet.
I don't know if they will, butthe most impressive to me had to

(25:45):
be the discipline by numberfour.
You know what I'm talking about.
When this happened, A snap,chris.

Speaker 3 (25:55):
that's first of all I got to be five-yard long.

Speaker 7 (26:00):
Defense number 98.
Number 98, defense Hatches hasdisqualified him from the game
Whoa.

Speaker 2 (26:08):
So Jaina Clark's at Dak.
So, and I'm going to bring alittle surprise for you, I've
got somebody that knows oldprobably a lot more than we do,
cause I have been out of thegame of covering anybody for a
while.
And how about let's bring in aa certain uh, god wants you to
meet from San Antonio.

(26:28):
Here we go, chuck.
I want to get it.
There we go.

Speaker 5 (26:44):
And I love it.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
There, it is A good frame.
Good 16 by nine.
Here you don't age, my friend.
Uh, I love.
I love when people let me putyour name up here.
Uh, here we go.
Oh, it goes over your.
Your face is still there, ChuckMcAtinnock, that's how we have.
I love when people try to sayyour last name, Chuck.

(27:08):
Correct the people and what'sthe over under when you go to
social events or galas and theytry to pronounce your last name
properly.
How many times do peopleimproperly pronounce it?

Speaker 5 (27:22):
Almost always, but that's okay when you have
problems at your own house withyour kids being able to
pronounce it right.
You know you've got to givegrace, clint.
You've got to give them somegrace.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
Well for everyone and for you.
Stevie, chuck and I date backto when I started in Oklahoma
City at the Fox Affiliate.
It was 07, and Chuck and hiscrew do a fantastic job at the
Fox Affiliate in San Antonio.
I mean, this guy, I've neverseen him stress, he's just cool,
cool as a cucumber, does agreat job with the stories,

(27:55):
everything.
But I've got to ask youropinion first.
That was great discipline byDak toward saliva.
I don't know if any of us couldhave handled another man's
saliva on our jersey as well asDak did.

Speaker 5 (28:11):
Yeah, I mean that's the one thing about Dak Prescott
I mean of his many, manyaccolades, and this dude is a
razor mentally.
I mean everything that you wantin a pro ballplayer.
That's this guy on and off thefield and there's not anything
that he hasn't thought of orthought through.
Going into games, being aleader, being a ball player.

(28:32):
You're right, there probablyweren't, there wouldn't be many
of us that would have handledthat situation any better than
he could have, which is turn theother cheek, obviously because
there's a game to play.
One player didn't turn thecheek, in fact, because of what
he did cost him the ball gamepersonally, and it could have
cost his team ultimately theball game too, if CD Lamb had
made a couple more balls.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
That's true.
Hey, Stevie, I know you've gotsome questions locked and loaded
about the Cowboys themselvesfor Chuck.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
Well, Chuck, thanks for coming on, man.
Hey, listen, we all had reallyhigh expectations of the Cowboys
signing Micah.
When they didn't and we saw thefirst game, they actually did
not do as bad as we thought.
What do you think that they'regoing to do moving forward?
How do you feel that theirseason is going to pan out after

(29:25):
seeing their first game?
I know you don't have a crystalball.

Speaker 5 (29:29):
No, I know you're right, I don't, but that's all
right.
I appreciate you all havinghave a crystal ball.
No, I know You're right, Idon't, but that's all right.
I appreciate you all having meon today.
Absolutely, you know.
I think in some ways I wassurprised that that game was
there for the taking Enemyterritory, Super Bowl champs,
everybody saying you're notgoing to do anything without 11
on the field and now number one.
You know, I was pleasantlysurprised with what they were

(29:52):
able to cobble together on thedefensive side of the ball.
You know, I thought early on inthe season the Cowboys are
going to maybe have to outscoresome people, because that's
where the bulk of their money, the bulk of their corporate
resources are.
In terms of who's getting paid.
Most of those guys are on theoffensive side of the ball and
yet the defense kind of held itsown.

(30:12):
You know, I thought the Cowboyshad a real advantage in this
game in that coachSchottenheimer said at the very
beginning of preseason look,we're going to go into this
thing playing golf with a seveniron, and anybody that's ever
played golf knowing if you gotto play with a seven iron, you
know you're going to handicapyourself in a lot of different
ways.
Well, what this benefited, Ithink, from the Cowboys'

(30:35):
perspective, is the fact thatthey didn't show anybody really
anything during the preseason asto what kind of an offense,
what kind of a defense, whatkind of things they were going
to be able to scheme week toweek.
So I think in that sense theyhad a decided advantage.
The other side of that was therust factor, right, you know,

(30:56):
maybe CD coming off the injurylast year and then not having
the benefit of preseasonfootball games to get real
bullets flying at you, so tospeak, probably hurt how good he
can be in some respects andprobably overall the offense too
.
I mean that's a tough firstgame to go into right, Kind of

(31:16):
like with Texas going into Ohiostate.
You know you got a bunch of newtoys, but how do they function
when the lights are at theirbrightest and when the
competition is going to be atits stiffest?
It's not fair in a lot of ways.
But you know, sure, those kidson Texas and the guys on the
Cowboys, they don't make theschedule.
So I think in a lot of ways theCowboys have a lot they can

(31:39):
build off in that first game forsure.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
Chuck, I've got to ask you this.
This is long overdue.
This should have happened.
You should have been a VIPalumni three years ago on this
podcast.
But there's been a lot ofdevelopment.
In San Antonio I've never had aproblem with the AT&T Center I
know it's a new sponsor name nowI just know that area where the

(32:06):
rodeo is never truly developedas so many thought and really
had the plans.
But now there's this Marvelproject downtown.
I've always envisioned andChuck is a baseball guy, he
could tell you it's amazing, your knowledge of baseball.
But the Marvel project, a newarena for the Spurs.

(32:29):
Pour in some funding to helpwith the Alamo Dome, which it's
not modern but it's not a badfacility.
It has the best parking andeverything else.
I think maybe a downtownbaseball stadium at some point.
And then you have one factorMayor Gina Ortiz, you put all

(32:52):
three of those together theSpurs.
From a perspective from thesocial media, I'm almost like is
this actually going to happenor not?

Speaker 5 (33:03):
That's a really good question, sean.
I mean, and it's nuanced, right.
It's not just as simple as youknow what it's portrayed to be,
which is, you know, if you lookat the spectacle or some of the
pre-specs that we've seen onwhat this entity might look like
, who doesn't want this in theirown backyard?
Right, sign me up for it.
I mean, I know I want somethinglike that in my town.

(33:25):
I'd want to go visit somethinglike that.
So you know, from that senseit's like, yeah, san Antonio
could definitely use a state ofthe art complex, and the
difference between this complexand the AT&T Center when it was
built is that they're not onlygoing to build it.
You know the old adage build itand they will come.

(33:46):
Well, build it and we'll buildall the stuff around it, so
we'll make sure that they come.
So you're not only going tohave the entity where the Spurs
would play basketball, but you'dhave the restaurants and the
other things around it to gowith it.
So you're basically buildingthe infrastructure around this
project.
And so you know, I candefinitely see why Spurs fans,

(34:11):
the ones that want this want tohave it right.
It makes a lot of sense.
So where it gets nuanced is howare we going to pay for all this
right?
How are the Spurs going to payfor it?
Who's on the hook for all this?
And I think that's where themessaging has kind of been a
little bit kind of hard tounderstand, to put it mildly

(34:32):
right.
So I think the general premisethat's out there is it's not
going to cost the generaltaxpayer, the general San
Antonian, whoever lives aroundhere, anything, and that's
simply not the case.
I mean, there are going to betwo taxes for this thing that
they're going to try to getpassed through, one in the fall
and then one again in the spring.

(34:52):
So the initial plan was to havetwo tasks tax asks on the
November ballot, right?
So the first ask is going to bewhether or not the citizens of
San Antonio want to have a taxincrease for the hotel motel tax
, the car rental tax that'salready in place here in San
Antonio, want to have a taxincrease for the hotel motel tax

(35:13):
, the car rental tax that'salready in place here in San
Antonio.
The second ask is going to belumped in with a bunch of other
streets and pavement taxes andthey're going to have to build
the streets and the bridges andeverything else that goes around
this monstrosity downtown.
So you know to say that it'snot going to cost anybody

(35:36):
anything.
I think that's where they'relosing some people, the Spurs
are and those that want this.
It's like nothing is coming forfree in all this.
And, yes, the Spurs are ponyingup a sizable portion of the
value of whatever it is it'sgoing to cost to build this
thing.
And you know, I think it's.
It's a tough one to actuallydraw a line in the sand and say

(35:59):
I side with this group or thisgroup, because, quite frankly, I
see it from both sides of theaisle.
I mean, our mayor, gina OrtizJones, has asked, I think, valid
questions amongst all of this, and you know she's getting a lot
of pushback.
But you know, I'm not reallysure I understand some of that,
because she's just askingquestions like what's the rush?

(36:21):
Why do we have to have this onthe ballot in November?
Is this the best deal we canget for the city?
All things that you would hopethat somebody in a position of
power would ask, when those samepeople are now going to have to
go to the public and say, hey,in November we're going to ask
you to vote yes for this, andthen in the spring, we're going
to ask you to vote for this.

(36:42):
So you know, there's been a lotof back and forth going back
between both sides andultimately we're at the point
where the voters will be askedto decide which way this thing
is going to go, and you know howis it going to play out.
Honestly, sean, I have no idea,no clue, because I've heard
from people on both sides andyou know, I guess it's one of

(37:04):
those things.
You know, we'll let the chipsfall where they may.
Here's my understanding, though.
We'll see which way this goesin November.
If the first tax ask doesn'tpass, then, from what I
understand, all bets are off, like the Spurs and the city have
to have both of the tax asks orthis project does not move

(37:26):
forward in its current statestate that's, and not to be
broad surface level, but I meanit's.

Speaker 2 (37:38):
We're facing some similar situations here in
Austin with, you know, increasein budget it's on the ballot
here.
You know people want to betaxed more on on their property
taxes when it's already.
The cost of living is high.
Stevie, I know you've been toone.
I know the Spurs made acommitment to come to Austin
twice a year.
There's two games and theyactually lower the flaps at the

(38:04):
Moody Center and they sell out.
Yeah, I've heard this, chuck.
I've been wanting to tell youthis for a while and I don't say
anything because I don't knowanything.
I don't want to be the old guythat thinks he knows everything
because I don't.
I just don't see the Spurs everleaving San Antonio.

(38:24):
There's some people here inAustin that think it's a
possibility.

Speaker 5 (38:30):
What do you say to those types of people You're
right.
I mean, I've heard those rumorstoo, and then the way I
understand it is this this iswhat I know if these two tax
asks don't go through, then thespurs are going to weigh their
options right.
You would have to think thatthat would be the case anyway,
but that, to my knowledge, ishow it's going to go down.
Now, what does that look like?

(38:50):
I have no idea, because youknow people are throwing out.
Well, they're going to move, they's going to go down.
Now, what does that look like?
I have no idea, because youknow people are throwing out.
Well, they're going to move, they're going to go to Austin,
they're going to go to Seattle, they're going to go to Vegas.
Well, then you have to startspitballing this thing out, kind
of at the 40,000 foot view.
What does that look like forAustin?
Does the University of Texaswant 41 dates from an NBA
basketball team in the MoodyCenter?

(39:11):
Do they want dates that arepartitioned off with no bookings
being allowed, because you haveto wait and see?
The NBA makes all thesefacilities wait to see if your
team makes the playoffs, andthen so you have to leave your
building essentially open withno bookings for, you know,

(39:32):
mid-april and June and maybepart of July, while they hold
these dates, if your team cansomehow get to the NBA finals.
So what does it look like there?
So now you're talking about awhole nother can of worms.
What does this look like fromAustin?
I have no idea.
I don't know what the Universityof Texas is thinking, I don't
know what the city plannersthere are thinking, I don't know

(39:54):
what the Moody Center peopleare thinking, right, and then so
you're thinking well, maybeVegas or Seattle you know other
cities that we've heard could beon the horizon, or very likely
to be on the horizon for NBAexpansion.
Well, what does that look like?
Does the NBA want to take apre-existing team and have them
move to Vegas or Seattle whenthere's some owner out there

(40:17):
that we don't know exists yetthat's going to have to pay an
exorbitant fee to get into theNBA just to join the club.
Right, they're going to have topay billions just to get in.
That's on top of already owningthe team.
So are there people out therelike that that are willing to do
that?
I don't know.
I mean, it's really hard, sean,to spitball this thing out into

(40:39):
the splinters that it couldfracture into, based on whatever
does or doesn't happen inNovember, and then would have to
happen again in May of nextyear, in order for me to really
give you a good understanding ofwhat does this look like now,
when we really haven't crossedthat bridge yet, if that makes

(41:00):
any sense.

Speaker 2 (41:01):
No, it does.
And you know, stevie, he'slucky, he lives in Williamson
County so he didn't have toworry about any tax increase,
and that's going to affectAustin and Travis County, so
that's great.
But he is in real estate, sothat does affect his business.
Chuck, we have got to eitherway in November.

(41:22):
Both of our cities could beaffected in a major way, both of
our cities in some way.
But what does not change isthat you and I are overdue for
an old school rock concert andand cold beverages of whatever
your choice is.
It's on me.

Speaker 5 (41:41):
Sean, I would very much look forward to that.
I was trying to think whatSuper Bowl were we at together
when we were working pretty muchside by side.
Was it the Dallas Super Bowl?
Or was it the one in Arizonawhere Eli had the miracle throw
to Tyree?
I can't remember which one itwas.

Speaker 2 (41:57):
It was the one in Dallas, because I remember we
were there for a week in ice andwe would go to do our live
shots on risers in 20 degreeweather, which was absolutely
awful, and then we would go tothe Dallas Convention Center to

(42:19):
find stories in warmth.

Speaker 5 (42:23):
So you know, I remember that vividly.
Obviously I won't bore you guystoo long.

Speaker 2 (42:28):
Too many stories you never bore us.

Speaker 5 (42:30):
That was the Super Bowl, you guys.
Too long, too many storiesnever bore us.
That was the super bowl.
I got food poisoning from akiosk in some place at the super
bowl.
I ate a roast beef sandwich andI took the lettuce off because
I could tell the roast thelettuce was bad.
What I didn't know was that theroast roast beef was also bad
and I almost didn't make thatSuper Bowl.

(42:51):
Man, you talk about playinginjured man.
I was just lucky I only had togo to the bathroom one time
during that game.
But it was all worth it becausemy Packers ended up winning the
Super Bowl, so it was all good.

Speaker 2 (43:02):
Mike McCarthy.
Mike McCarthy was the headcoach, correct?
Yes, he was he's yeah, he's agood human Packers were dropping
like flies.

Speaker 5 (43:11):
All year Packers had 16 guys on IR.
That year Woodson broke hiscollarbone in the first half.
They somehow ham and egged itWon a Super Bowl in spite of all
that stuff.
It was pretty special againstthe Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaker 2 (43:23):
That was a great Super Bowl.
You know, stevie?
I don't remember how old wasStevie.
Well, stevie, you were justgraduating from college.
No, no, no, you were, I think,maybe 10 years out, I can't
remember what year that was.

Speaker 5 (43:36):
Was that 2016?
Stevie, you're dating us 2010.

Speaker 2 (43:39):
It was 2010.
2010.

Speaker 3 (43:42):
I was five years out of college.

Speaker 5 (43:44):
Oh, okay.
Well, you weren't that youngthen, yeah no not at all.
He was still in playing shoes,I thought you were going to say
five years out of elementaryschool, then I was going to feel
really bad.

Speaker 3 (43:55):
No, no, not at all, man, no.
So I wanted to dive.
I know we got to go andeverything, but I would love to
dive in a little bit more aboutthe Spurs.
My wife's family is from aroundthe corner from the current
stadium.

Speaker 2 (44:09):
No, kidding, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (44:15):
She's a judson rocket .
She's a judson rocket, but, uh,her mom and dad grew up right
there.
When her grandpa died, fiveyears ago, they, we, sold the
house that was literally walkingdistance to that stadium, right
there, um, and then, um, hergrandmother's house, uh, was
taken over by eminent domainwhen they put in the the animal

(44:39):
dome right there.
So the church that my dad grewup in is around the corner,
first Baptist Church right there, and so we know that area very,
very well.
We are there just about everyyear, and so we know that area
very, very well.
We are there just about everyyear.

Speaker 5 (44:55):
We have nieces and nephews that graduate but they
use the other arena behind it,whatever that arena is called
the Coliseum.

Speaker 3 (45:03):
Yeah, the Coliseum, exactly so you know I love that
area, but I do understand thatthey may need something else
downtown.
I don't see the San AntonioSpurs coming to Austin.

Speaker 2 (45:13):
I don't either.

Speaker 3 (45:14):
They just spent a ton of money building that new
facility off of 1604.
Is it off 1604 correct?

Speaker 5 (45:22):
Am I correct?
Yeah, they have some newfacilities around here and the
AT&T Center is kind of up 35north but around where you're
talking about.
So you know, it's man, it'snuanced, right.
You said eminent domain, right?
We're not even talking aboutlike that aspect of it, right?

(45:42):
And you know that almost hitclose to me, when they were
expanding 1604 by where I live,I was backed up to a green belt
while they were talking aboutexpanding 1604.
There was some talk that a greenbelt While they were talking
about expanding 1604, there wassome talk that a couple of
houses in our neighborhood mighthave to be just basically moved
, and so you know this is a realthing that citizens have to

(46:03):
deal with, right, and you know, again, it's very, very nuanced
this whole thing.
You're talking about buildingsomething like this, which, for
sure, san Antonio needs andcould use.
It's just how's it going tolook like, how do we get there
and how do we do it with most ofSan Antonio seeing that this is
a good thing that we need forthe future and it pays for

(46:27):
itself in the right way?

Speaker 3 (46:28):
Yeah, the one good thing about San Antonio is y'all
citizens.
The citizens there absolutelylove the Spurs and they would
riot if San Antonio Spurs leftSan Antonio.
It would be horrible yeah.

Speaker 5 (46:44):
Oh yeah, it would be horrible.
I mean again, I think we'reputting the cart before the
horse on a lot of this stuff.
Mean again.
Yeah, we're really in a holdingpattern until we see what
happens in november and then, ifthey get the vote in november,
we'll see what happens in may.
But I know it's going to becoming up quick, so we'll be all
watching, you know, with uh,faded breath, as they say yeah,

(47:06):
hey, just like mike adams, Ithink chuck needs his own
segment on here.

Speaker 2 (47:11):
Uh, to follow up.
And when you get a chance, tellour mutual friend Jeff trailer.
We said hello and then he he's,it's been.
It's been a year since he'sbeen on here, so it's time.

Speaker 5 (47:22):
Oh yeah, you got to have him back.
Man, he's always good, right, you just?
Crack open the microphone andlet him go.
Yeah, he's one of those guysyou you'd pay money to listen to
, right?
You're going to take somethingaway from that that you can make
in your own life better for you, right?
He's just.
He's good at not only coachinghis kids, he's good at coaching

(47:42):
the rest of us too, in terms ofhis uh worldly view on some
stuff.
So I love you, you're, you're.

Speaker 2 (47:49):
it's a great time to be in san antonio because I
think Spurs are this close tobeing back.
They're making progress.
I think UTSA is doing a greatjob of pouring into that
football program.
We're talking about, I think, one of the best coaches in
America just in a good human andspeaking of good humans, Chuck

(48:10):
McIntennich.
Appreciate the friendship man.
I'm glad we've stayed in touchall these years.

Speaker 5 (48:16):
Yeah, clinch, good, I'm glad you guys are doing all
right, man.
Thank you, stevie.
I appreciate you guys having meon.
It's a true honor I'm.
I'm glad y'all you know, havesomebody.
You put me on.
Let me air it all out and havesomebody listen to me.
My wife just goes, man.
Can you find some place to putthis on a podcast?
She don't have to listen to me,yeah.

Speaker 3 (48:37):
Thanks for coming on, man, absolutely.

Speaker 2 (48:39):
Just like Jeff trailer.
Hey, whenever Chuck speaks, youdo learn something.
One hundred percent.
Hey, buddy Appreciate youfellas, we'll be in touch soon.
We'll talk.
If you need anything from usany way, we can help, let us
know.

Speaker 5 (48:53):
You got it, Clinch.

Speaker 2 (48:53):
Thanks, bro.
See you, brother.
Hey, we're going to take aquick break On the other side.
What mom boy moms go throughwhen their boys are in the back
seat, what they haveconversations about.
We'll end with some positivity, like we always do.
We'll see you on the other sideof this break, like we always
do.
We'll see you on the other sideof this break.

(49:14):
The Bully is a cozy Austinoriginal bar and grill that
feels like home.
Boulevard Bar and Grill, nestled into this Northwest
Hills strip mall, recentlycelebrated two decades.
The drink prices are like goingback to 2004.
It's where familiar facesgather and everyone knows your
name.
The Bully family are alsofriends.

(49:36):
We'll be right back.

Speaker 6 (49:56):
He's gonna help the team strategize, really motivate
them light a fire.

Speaker 3 (50:00):
This guy's gonna block down.
This guy's gonna block down you.
Put your butt into the guardand that way my Mike Linebacker
gets free to do what.

Speaker 6 (50:10):
Not only are they gonna learn a thing or two, but
they're gonna also leave with agreat attitude and a bunch of
smiles on their faces.

Speaker 1 (50:17):
I'm sorry.
What does this have to do withroofing exactly?
Get out right now.

Speaker 6 (50:24):
I said get out for me , that's what it's all about.
It's just having fun, makingour employees have a great time.
Hargrove Roofing know who's onyour roof.

Speaker 2 (50:51):
Alright, stevie Lee, tiktok in the man cave.
You know we like to keep it alittle dirty around here because
, tiktok, there's a lot ofinappropriate things and it's
absolutely priceless contentsometimes.
This one's absolutely hilariousFor all the boy moms out there.
You know how this woman feels, and when you have a husband who
encourages the boys to continuetheir comments because little

(51:14):
boys they have a tendency we alldid it when we were little boys
we always like to learn aboutthe anatomy.

Speaker 4 (51:24):
There's dicks.
Here's our dicks.
Our dicks are right here, rightthere, right there.
All three dicks in the car, andMama doesn't even get the dicks
, she gets the balls.
No, she's got front buns.

Speaker 1 (51:39):
Get the buns Big dicks.
Okay, that's enough.

Speaker 2 (51:46):
Mom reached her limits on that.

Speaker 3 (51:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (51:51):
Enough dick.

Speaker 1 (51:52):
Hey man, Tell me something good.

Speaker 2 (51:59):
All right, stevie Lee , positivity is the best thing,
because you are a positive guy.
We need more people like you inthis world.
And man, I know it's collegefootball season.
We got our first fill oftailgating, finally of the
season, this past weekend, butwhat else is going on?
What else is good?
Tell me something good, mybrother.

Speaker 3 (52:19):
Man, something good.
I man, uh, something good.
I was gonna go a totallydifferent route, but now I'm
pivoting.
Uh, this weekend was mybrother-in-law's birthday and
they came up to town.
I took them out, we did thetouristy thing and went down
dirty 6th street.
But I will tell you, man, wehad a really good time.
I'm not gonna, we had a reallygood time.

(52:39):
I'm not going to lie, I had areally good time watching the
kids that were in college.
When I was in college and whenI was their age, I was watching
how they moved and things thatthey were doing and I was like,
oh my God, that was me, what wasthat?
What was that?
What?
23 years ago, you know.

(52:59):
So it was fun to see that again.
I haven't been on six dirty sixstreet in a long time, and so we
went down there because myin-laws wanted to take the
touristy stuff, do the touristystuff for his birthday and get a
shot at every bar, a birthdayshot at every bar.
He didn't finish because he'sold, he's older than me.

(53:19):
Bar, a birthday shot at everybar uh, he didn't finish because
he's old, he's older than me.
So, um, but it was a lot of fun.
Um, and hanging out with family.
I got up the next morning.
My other brother-in-law thatlives here cooked us brunch.
I got up here and went overthere and ate brunch with them.
