Um, I told you a minute agothat I was supposed to pick up
my wife from the airport, but Ineeded to finish that game.
Man, it was so fun to watch, man.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
And you know what.
You can't underestimate TCU.
I thought amazing, best seasonever.
They had 30-plus wins and Texasdefense smothered them.
There's a lot to celebrate andwe've got a college basketball
legend in my eyes and she is alegend and a legend and she does
a lot of things well.
On another level, you talkabout history.
(01:34):
The guest we have was a part ofthe best team in UT women's

That is Stevie Lee.
Be sure to follow us onFacebook, all those social media
platforms, and Steve, we'regoing to do things a little
different and you know, I thinkit's time that we get this thing
(01:55):
rolling.
What do you think?
Speaker 3 (01:56):
Let's do it, let's
roll.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Let's ride.
I know I'm not their world, butthey are my world.
(02:22):
I'm just proud of this groupman that today that is Texas.
Fight right there.
That's what we're all about.
I'm not their world, but theyare my world.
I'm just proud of this groupman that today that is Texas.
Fight right there.
That's what we're all about.
Texas fight.
Vic Schaefer the ideal fit forthis job.
He gets it and he's a Texan.
And you don't see it, but I seeour guest.
She's doing this and she'sgetting fired up.
(02:44):
Man, real quick.
Your thoughts on vic emotionaland he really meant that those
girls are his world you can tellhe meant he mentioned it, but
you know, not just this game.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
He's emotional
throughout the whole season and
he really loves his kids, hisgirls, uh, over there and they
and they play their heart outfor him.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
They do.
Before we roll on and bring outthe VIP of this episode, I want
you to see Stevie acting andgiving a shout out to our people
, hargrove Roof.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Hi, I'm Stevie Lee,
former defensive tackle for the
University of Texas, and I'mClyde Hargrove.
I'm a roofer.
I also saw action in 52 gamesand I fixed a lot of roofs, also
won a Rose Bowl and never lostto A&M and I fixed a lot of
roofs.
Right, stevie?
Oh, right, right, I'm sorry Izoned out a little bit.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
So are you gonna say
the thing about Hargrove Roofing
, Hargrove Roofing?
Speaker 3 (03:35):
know who's on your
roof?
Is this even?
Speaker 4 (03:37):
gonna work as a
commercial.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Great job, great job
on the acting, but uh, I've got
somebody here that I think hasequal, maybe better, talent in
front of the camera.
You ready, I'm sure let's go?
Look there she is.
(04:09):
You recognize her, yet youshould.
This is the Fran Harris.
Hey, sam, I want to throw out astat for you, stevie, and for
all of you guys watching andlistening.
Part of the only nationalchampionship team at Texas that
(04:35):
went correct me, if I'm wrong,34 and 0 and right, that is,
that is correct.
And you went undefeated atSouth Oak Cliff in Dallas, the
Dallas area and state champion40 and 0, I think.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
Also correct.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Wow, that's awesome,
that's awesome.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
It's Fred Harris.
She's talented, she's ridingher business acumen through the
roof and I joke, but I'm serious.
She hasn't aged since 1986,when they won that national
championship.
Speaker 5 (05:01):
I did leave the Jerry
curl.
I did leave the Jerry curl.
You did Other than that.
The youthfulness is still there.
Yes, leave the Jerry curl.
I did leave the Jerry curl.
You did Other than that.
The youthfulness is still there.
Yes, yes it is.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Hey, before we talk
ball and the excitement and the
beauty that is March Madness, especially when you're the last
four standing.
I got to show you something.
Fran Harris Caption this pic.
(05:33):
What's going on here?
Speaker 5 (05:33):
that's fran harris,
by the way.
Well, all I can say is shedidn't block it.
It looks like she blocked it,but she didn't block it.
Let's keep it a buck.
She did not block that shot.
That was a money shot rightthere.
That's what we're going to callit money shot, money.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
That's good stuff,
man.
That's nice and great form.
Right there too, did you popthe wrist?
You popped the wrist right Idid have to have to.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Man, that was back
when NCAA tournament games were
always at the Irwin Center, including the regional Sweet 16,
elite Eight.
Yeah, but, fran, this isspecial to you and all.
Is it okay to still say LadyLonghorns, can I still say that?
Speaker 5 (06:16):
When you say, lady
Longhorns, I know you were back
there.
I know you from back in the day.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
I love it it's
excellent.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
Yeah, you have to be
supporting our team right up
until the mid-90s, if you say, lady Longhorn.
So it's all good.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Stevie, don't you
agree?
I mean, stevie, you've seen thevideo clips.
I grew up with it.
I grew up with full IrwinCenter crowds in the month of
March, and I'm going to go aheadand say it and shout out to
Karen Ashton.
She helped build this and thenVic took over, but it's starting
to get the feel of when youguys in the early to mid 80s.
(06:53):
Is that accurate or do youthink maybe another step?
Speaker 5 (06:58):
That's a great
depiction of what's happening
now.
I mean literally.
Folks need to really take alook at what Vic Schaefer has
done in five years.
I mean it was a COVID year, hisfirst year, and they almost got
to the Elite Eight or they gotto the.
I mean it was ridiculous Withthe team that he inherited some
of his players mostly not, butwhat he's been able to do in
five years is very reminiscentof my time at Texas, where we
(07:21):
lost only nine games in my fourseasons at UT and, of course,
lost only lost no games in mysenior year.
So what Vic has done is thestuff of legends, no question
about it.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
That's awesome.
A legend would know anotherlegend, so I wanted to ask you a
question, friend.
Like this is when I was in highschool, I was a part of a
undefeated team.
All through high school I did.
I went 60 and 0, but when yougo, when you have those type of
dynasties, there's always a teamthat is not supposed to beat
(07:56):
you but got really, really close.
Who was that for you guys?
Speaker 5 (08:01):
Well, there's always
the West Texas folks, the folks
out West with the Texas Tech.
You know those folks.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Yeah, the guns down.
Speaker 5 (08:11):
Like they always.
They were so ready, they wereso hyped.
It was always a sellout when weplayed there at Lubbock and so
if anybody was going to getclose it was them.
And then for a couple ofseasons it was like Arkansas.
So I'm sure you saw some of thesame things during your time at
Texas.
They never got close, theynever got a cigar, they never
got any of that.
But that was the team.
(08:33):
I was like when, when Igraduate, it's going to be Texas
tech who beats us first, because we hadn't lost.
We lost to no Southwestconference opponents for
Southwest conference game.
So we would always take thesewagers of who's it going to be
when we lose, because teams aregoing to get better.
Who is it going to be?
And we always thought it wouldbe Texas Tech, and it was.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Yeah, you know, at
Texas, you know we're bred to
hate A&M and OU.
But for me, for me, for mepersonally, it's Texas Tech.
Oh, I can't stand them.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Marsha Sharp.
Great job, she built it.
She did a great job in Lubbock.
The one piece the reason why Isaid that wow, I had a flashback
to 84, 85, 86 was a play likethis.
You know this happened lastnight against TCU.
Now keep in mind Texas defensesuffocating.
(09:31):
I think TCU shot 29% from thefield last night and that's a
good TCU team.
But when you see not onlyhustle plays like this, this is
not a position that normallymakes plays like this.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Detail it's got to be
good.
Look at Oldacre, uh-oh,stepping into the passing lane
Going to take it the distance.
And one for Kyla, oldacre Ho ho, ho, crazy, Absolutely crazy.
Speaker 5 (10:03):
Listen, I was sitting
on my sofa watching the game
and so I saw the deflection andI was, so I was ready to say,
hey, good, good defense Kyla.
So I was like, good defenseKyla.
And I was like, oh my God,she's actually taking it all the
way, she's actually going todribble the basketball the full
length.
So I stood up go, kyla, go, go,go, go, go, go.
(10:24):
Oh man, that was the play ofthe game that was literally
should be clipped to teach postplayers.
This is how you dribble getthem on your hip when you get
ready to shoot, you put a littleprotection right there so they
get the foul.
You get the end one.
It was perfection, it wasabsolutely amazing.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
That was fun.
That was fun to watch man.
I was jumping up and down.
I was in the house by myselfscreaming Whoa, that was nice.
Speaker 5 (10:53):
Yeah, it was really
cool and you've got to have the
context, because when I playedit's not like that now.
You didn't want your postplayers dribbling.
The post player got the balland a point guard was over there
hey, give me that ball.
But today they have the skills.
So it's all of that thatflavors that moment.
(11:13):
You know a player who doesn'tsmile a lot on the court you
know she's always serious.
A player who's a post playerdribbling the full court, taking
it down, getting an A and one.
That was absolutely bananas.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
Bananas court taking
it down, getting an A in one.
That was absolutely bananasInsane.
They've got all the pieces, Allthe pieces that not only you
make the final four, but theyhave a legitimate chance here.
South Carolina.
These are the matchups.
In Tampa, Everybody knows aboutUConn, but South Carolina, they
(11:44):
have three of these rings totheir resume already, and when
you think about these two, Fran, this is going to be the fourth
meeting this season, correct?
Speaker 5 (11:55):
Yeah, it is.
I'm so sick of seeing SouthCarolina, literally not only
because they're so good, justbecause I want a different
challenge.
It's a different kind ofchallenge.
You have to play them a fourthtime for all the you know all
the marbles, so it kind of makessense.
They've been one of our nemesisthis season.
You know we didn't lose verymany games and that we lost them
(12:16):
, and they're the best team inthe land and you kind of want to
go out on top.
So even though we're playingthem in the semifinals, it does
kind of solidify our supremacy,if you will in the SEC if we get
to dethrone our co-champion,yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
And then, stevie,
when you see this, I mean UConn,
I do think Geno has one of histraditional teams back.
He's got the program back towhere it was forever.
It's shocking to me, but UCLAis very talented.
This is their first Final Fourappearance.
Stevie, what are you looking atas what Fran has kind of
educated us on about all this, this field, right here?
Speaker 3 (12:56):
real quick.
Well, I want my belovedLonghorns to go in and kick some
Gamecock butts, but UConnlooked really good man across
the board, they look really good.
So going into the championshipgame, it's going to be hard,
(13:17):
it's going to be tough.
I mean, it's going to be toughto play Don Staley again, but I
feel confident that we got thisright.
But going up against UConn, that's going to be the big, big
test as well.
So I'm looking forward to.
Next, is it next weekend, is it?
Speaker 5 (13:36):
It starts.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
I leave Thursday, you
go to the camp.
That's right this weekend.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
So I'm you can't keep
up with Fran's itinerary.
It's all over I this weekend,so I'm going to keep up with
friends itinerary.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
It's, it's and it's
going to be fun to watch man.
So, just as a longhorn, I'mjust going to sit back and enjoy
it, Cause this, this is a rareair that we're in.
We're the top four teams in thecountry.
Speaker 5 (13:55):
Yeah, listen, I
booked my travel to Tampa at the
beginning of the fourth quarter.
That's how confident I was ofus.
Literally I booked my thirdquarter ended, had that little
break.
I got on Southwest I was likewe going, we going, we going to
Tampa.
Did y'all see the end of thegame?
Did y'all see me I'm beingcocky, booking a flight?
(14:16):
And then we go up like 15points and then they come back
to within four Within four.
I'm looking for the refundbutton on Southwest.
I'm like, hold up, hold up.
Y'all hold up, hold up, wait aminute.
I accidentally pressed that paybutton get my seven hundred
dollars back and like literallyit was, it was.
I was like I don't believe thisis happening, so it's delicate
(14:38):
right and you played achampionship.
Like you know, getting to thefinish line of a championship is
delicate.
It may look like we weredominant, but it's delicate and
you can screw something up anysecond now and really mess up
that opportunity.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
It's beautiful Two
wins from a natty, as Texas is
aiming to get that second one.
If you were not aware, FranHarris is also.
She has spearheaded this groupto bring the WNBA as an
expansion franchise to Austin.
Where do we stand with thatprocess right now?
Speaker 5 (15:11):
We are still in the
hunt to bring a team to Austin.
The latest round of evaluationsand applications we did not get
the 16th franchise.
That honor went to Cleveland.
The 16th franchise, that honorwent to Cleveland.
And so we've been told thatthere may be additional teams
named in the next couple ofyears.
Cleveland will start playing in2028.
(15:32):
And then we've also heard thatthe next few franchises will go
to NBA owners for the next fewrounds and that we're playing
double Dutch.
They'll let us know when we canget in.
And so you know we we I like totell people like we have, our
money is extra long, so we'vegot the finances to do this.
We our ownership has previouslyowned an NBA team.
(15:53):
You've got Kevin Durant, who'sa part of our ownership group,
me, who have WNBA experience.
So I feel like we're thestrongest independent in the
hunt, and now it's just a matterof giving us the opportunity to
show them what Austin can do.
But we're still on the list andwe're still very engaged with
the WNBA.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
That's exciting,
stevie.
You and I have talked a lotabout this time last year.
That's exciting, stevie you andI have talked a lot about this
time last year the Caitlin Clarkeffect, not only with Iowa and
women's NCAA tournament orcollege basketball period, but
what she did for the WNBA and Ithink it opened some doors for
marketing to do things a littledifferent, because the game is
(16:32):
exciting and it's easilymarketable.
It's a great brand right now.
It always has been.
Fyi.
Fran played for the OG HoustonComets which won like 17
straight.
Speaker 5 (16:47):
Legend grows, the
lore grows.
I love it.
Seven championships, yeah,first four championships.
Houston won.
I played on the first team.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
You know, man cave,
lady cave.
We don't discriminate.
We love all genders, but isthere a?
Man cave story.
That maybe is just as amusingnow as it was when it happened.
Speaker 5 (17:20):
In any facet of your
multiple careers, Interestingly
enough, the first thing thatpopped into my head when I saw
the little promo was a traditionin my family.
So I come from a basketballfamily.
My older brothers played.
They were great players.
I come from a basketball family.
My older brothers played.
They were great players.
If my my my middle brothercould have stayed in class and
stayed in school, he literallywould have been in the NBA.
(17:41):
He is one of the bestbasketball players I've ever
seen in my life.
He was that good.
But what we have is a traditionin my family is when we go work
out with each other, we play oneon one.
So I'm the only girl in myfamily who played, so I'm
playing against guys all thetime.
So my younger brother he's like10 years younger than I am when
he was little he would come tovisit me in Austin and then we
(18:02):
would go to Gregory and play andso we would be playing.
You know I'd beat him, he'dbeat me, and then I go.
You know, just because you gotto the, to the, you know the
five points or whatever, youstill got to finish that, the
free throw line.
This was our way of creatingpressure and tension, discomfort
, so you can play through thatstuff.
So I mean, if he beat me, theolder he got, he bigger guy,
(18:22):
start beating me.
I'm like, but you know, you gotto make those free throws right
so he would get to the freethrow line and inevitably miss a
free throw.
He got to go back to fivepoints so we would play these
games and they would get so mad.
He did the same thing with hischildren.
So recently I was playing withone of his sons and so he was
being like auntie, I got you inthis and he made his that's game
(18:43):
.
I said you got to go to thatfree throw line.
So it's like that.
It's like that for our entire.
We pass that down.
This is how you become a greatshooter.
This is how you perform underpressure.
I don't care what you didduring regulation.
If you cannot hit pressure freethrows, you cannot beat me.
So that's a big.
That's a big.
All the kids in my family y'allknow she started the two free
(19:04):
throws after we beat her rightBecause she didn't want to beat
us.
She created this rule.
I'm trying to help you.
I'm trying to help you getbetter in life by performing
under pressure.
So that's one of my favoriteman Cave stories.
Speaker 3 (19:14):
That's awesome.
Perform under pressure and atthe end of the game you're tired
, so you got to control yourheart rate and control your
breathing.
And actually it's not just ashot at the free throw line,
it's a breathe and make thatshot at the free throw line.
That is so smart, that'sawesome, and breathing's
everything.
The Houston family should thanky'all for that, for sure.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
Yeah, that's, it.
Thanks, guys, Fran.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
Harris, we owe you
lunch for because I remember I
specifically said 10 to 15minutes.
We're five minutes over foryour segment, but it was well
worth it, so we owe you lunch.
Speaker 5 (19:51):
Appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Appreciate you guys
Tune in.
Speaker 5 (19:54):
Friday.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Let's go Tune in
Friday.
Let's go Tune in Friday.
Final four coverage Fran Harrisit is ideal.
Whenever Texas is going back toFinal Fours as they used to,
it's a beautiful thing andyou've got to have Fran's
perspective.
It's a gift and shout-out toall of that.
The private Facebook group, allthe former Texas women's
(20:17):
basketball stars of the pastAndrea Lloyd, fran Harris
there's a lot of them, and Iknow this is a tribute to all of
you as well.
Fran, much love, we'll see yousoon.
Appreciate everything that younot only do for the game, but
everything.
Speaker 5 (20:33):
Great Praise the Lord
and hook them, as Vic Schaefer
would say.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
It's Vic Schaefer's
sister.
Thanks, guys.
So Fran broke it down the wholeFinal Four, the Texas team.
She gives you a perspectivethat all fans can relate what
you and I are seeing but at thesame time, what did you gain out
(20:58):
of that?
Because, man, she is a wealthof knowledge.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
No, it was really
cool to hear from her just
talking about Texas basketball.
It was, you know it's not oldschool basketball, but you know,
back in the day, the way theyapproached the game, approaching
the season.
I mean nobody was going to beatthem.
They had that mindset that noone was going to beat them.
(21:25):
And then she flexed a littlebit Never lost a game in the
Southwest Conference.
That's a flex.
That's a flex.
I love that.
Speaker 2 (21:34):
So we switch gears to
the men's basketball Final Four
.
Look at this All number oneseeds.
It's only the second timethat's happened since the field
expanded to 64 teams.
What do you?
Speaker 4 (21:44):
think.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
I mean everybody's
saying, well, college
basketball's dead now becausethere's not the parodies done,
there's no mid-majors that madeit.
You know what?
It just so happened to be thatthese are the four best teams in
the country.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
Yeah, right, yeah
yeah.
I don't think collegebasketball is dead at all.
I am happy because my pick, myoverall pick, is still in Auburn
.
No U of H, oh, the Cougs Calvin.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
Sands, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
Well, here we go.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
Oh, the Cougs, Kelvin
Sands yeah.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
Here we go.
So you know, john Fidler wasour leader Saturday or Sunday,
but that has changed.
But this is going to go down toMonday for sure, and we
appreciate everybody.
So you've got two I think twomembers from the SEC out of 14.
(22:38):
That's not a bad deal.
That's 50% of the final four, cause you're going to knock each
other off in certain rounds.
And you've got Duke.
This may be one of the betterDuke teams.
That's going to be aninteresting matchup against
Houston athleticism, but whenyou look at the bracket
challenge, I really don't have achance, stevie.
(22:58):
When Texas Tech got beat, youdon't Done.
Done.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
Sorry about that man.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
Yeah, man.
So CBSSportscom, you go toStories Inside the man Cave
Podcast Bracket Challenge andcheck out our standings 44
entries.
I'm in the second tier in thestandings.
Means absolutely nothing.
If you don't win it, who'sgoing to remember who finishes
second or 29th?
Speaker 3 (23:27):
Wait.
So how many entries?
I think 44.
Golly, I'm 33rd.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
You're doing great.
You're not far behind me, but Idid figure you'd reach to win
it all, man.
Well, that'll boost you.
If they win, that'll boost youup in the top 15 to 20 probably
yeah.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
Yeah that's the only
team that I have in the Final
Four.
My other Final Four is Jack andthen Tennessee losing.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
they were my national
champion.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
Tennessee was your
nationals.
Yeah, oh yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
Hey, let's take a
quick break and when we come
back on the other side otherside we're going to talk about
the intense new Texas men'sbasketball coach and Stevie's
going to give us an unofficialTexas spring football report.
It's special.
Stick around, see you on theother side.
Speaker 4 (24:27):
Here at Hard Grow
Roofing we try to think outside
the box, to kind of get thecreative juices flowing.
So I brought in my friendStevie Lee, former defensive
tackle for the Texas Longhorns.
He's going to help the teamstrategize, really motivate them
, light a fire.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
This guy's going to
block down.
This guy's going to block down.
You put your butt into theguard and that way my Mike
Linebacker gets free to do what.
Speaker 4 (24:50):
Not only are they
going to learn a thing or two,
but they're going to also leavewith a great attitude and a
bunch of smiles on their faces.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
I'm sorry.
What does this have to do withroofing exactly?
Speaker 1 (25:04):
Get out Right now.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
I said get out For me
.
That's what it's all about.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
It's just having fun
making our employees have a
great time.
Hargrove Roofing.
Know who's on your rim?
They're running in to fuck youup.
They're running in to fuck youup and guess what?
They fucked you up.
All you gotta do is somebodyfucking turn and fucking run up.
(25:45):
You understand?
You can't watch.
Look, it's one-on-one drive.
It's Vegas closeout, Vegascloseout.
You can't foul Three points tohim.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
I'm ready to go, I'm
ready to go I have all five
years of eligibility.
I can be his 12th man and youonly play five.
I don't even have to be in therotation.
I will run through a wall forthat man.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
Sean, you said you
got all five years.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Never exhausted him.
No one recruited me, nobodywanted me for anything.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
That's funny, hey man
.
Hey, I do too In basketball.
I got all my years.
Speaker 2 (26:33):
Yeah, let's do it and
what's NCAA going to do about
it?
Nothing, nothing.
Sean Miller great impressionEven at the press conference.
Did you get to see a little bitof his introductory press
conference?
Speaker 3 (26:47):
A little bit.
No, not really, but a littlebit.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
He's keeping Chris
Ogden as the GM a former.
Longhorn, who was the GM forRodney Terry.
What's your now when you seethat and you knew about Sean
Miller before I mean 422 careerwins already and he looks like
Steve Sarkeesian's doppelganger,or they could be related.
(27:12):
But the little you did see ofthe introductory press
conference FYI, introductorypress conferences for every
coach, they all sound the sameto me.
But what's your opinion rightnow of him being the guy?
Speaker 3 (27:27):
I'm pretty excited,
knowing what he did at Arizona,
knowing what he did at Xavier, and to come here fired up like
that and with the resources thatwe have and keeping Chris on as
the GM, because Chris has comeup through the ranks as a player
(27:49):
, as a coach and now GM.
He gets it Assistant coach andnow GM.
He knows the landscape of Texasfootball, texas donors, texas
recruiting and all that stuff.
So we always need even infootball we need a tie to Texas
when we bring in a new coachingstaff.
Right and keeping Chris on forthat is awesome.
(28:13):
But the upside for us right nowis just through the roof.
With the legacy that we have atthe University of Texas, with
the money that we have at theUniversity of Texas and the new
facilities and all that stuff,we can bring in some special
players and do some specialthings.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
And obviously in a
conference which is highly
regarded for, as we mentioned,14 NCAA tournament teams, two in
the final four.
I thought it was very classy.
Rodney Terry is still tweetingout and celebrating the Texas
women's basketball.
Just a class act.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
Yeah, he's always
going to be a part of the family
, man he is.
He was a part of the familywhen he was an assistant coach a
long time ago and then cameback with Coach Beard and then
obviously became the head coach.
He's always going to be a partof the family.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
It is, it is, it is
All right.
Spring football has started forTexas.
Ryan Wingo out, the receiversupposed to be elevated to the
(29:26):
what number one receiver, and hehas proved himself.
Stevie Lee was out there andtell me a little bit about what
you saw.
Don't be afraid, Don't holdanything back, there's no police
.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
No, I really enjoyed
watching Manning throw the ball.
He looked so poised back thereand you know what.
Also, I, you know, think peoplesome things that people don't
see is Sarkis, and he stillcoached him hard, very hard, you
(30:01):
know, even though you know hewas doing a lot of things right.
If he made a mistake, sark wasright in his ass.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
Yeah, yeah, the
receivers they look pretty good.
They were practicing a lot ofthe passes out of the backfield
which I like.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, the swing outpass.
I was just practicing that.
That's probably something theydo all the time, but you know,
(30:31):
putting that into the playbookand Coach was really coaching on
how to throw that ball and leadthe receiver or the running
back to go catch it, and as hecatches it, his momentum is
going forward Speed, yeah, yeah,exactly.
The other thing I saw was theyoung D-line.
(30:53):
Them boys look big, big and I'ma big guy myself when I'm
looking up at these guys andthey're just wide and strong.
They look strong man.
So I think that we got anotherclass of D-linemen that are
coming up that are going to bepretty special.
You may not know their namesright now, there may not be
(31:14):
household Texas names right now,but they will be because they
are special.
They are special.
It's hard to find kids that bigthat can move Offensive line.
They look good.
And warm-ups I was like youknow, you know how you just go
through the motions of warm-ups.
They were actually getting atit at warm-ups.
(31:36):
The other thing I had atpractice was the class of 27 was
invited out.
There were some really cool, really good recruits and their
families out there I got to meet.
(32:01):
I think I told you all thestory of Ethan Booby.
Feaster was born in Shreveport, louisiana, the next door
neighbors of my parents, andwhen I, his mom and dad was out
there and dad was out there andhe was out there, but his mom
and dad was out there and theycame up to me we took a picture
together and they said you know, your mom rushed me to the
hospital to have Ethan BoobieBoobie's just reclassified as a
(32:24):
27 recruit.
Now he's really 26, class of 26,but he reclassified to class of
27.
And yeah, I said yeah, my momtold me that story and I told
him I mean, he comes here toTexas and I'll take care of him
too.
So I'm trying to recruit thekid to come down here to Texas.
He has a lot of offers rightnow.
(32:45):
So I had a chance to talk tohim, talk to his dad dad, I
actually talk to his dad all thetime over text, so hopefully
one day we can get him on thepodcast for sure that's a good
story too but it'll be a fun, good fun story to tell.
They're a good family.
Ethan is only 15 years old andhe's on a college campus, ready
(33:09):
to get get going like it's thenumber one recruit at number one
uh receiver in the in the uhstate.
So, um, he has a tremendousupside to him.
He's tall, he's gonna get alittle thicker.
He get over here at theuniversity of texas.
Tory beckham will put someweight on him, the right kind of
weight on him.
So it's just fun to watch theyouth come up and I think we're
(33:33):
going to be good for a long time, especially with the recruits
we have coming in.
One of my teammates, hisstepson, is an offensive line
recruit.
He was at Lago Vista and justtransferred over to Westlake.
They just moved over toWestlake.
Matt Trissel Trissel, yeah,triskel's son.
(33:53):
I'm blanking on his name rightnow, the kid, but anyway he's a
big offensive lineman that'sgoing to do very, very well.
Hopefully he got an offer from.
He's a class of 27.
He got an offer from Texas Tech, but I'm hoping that the
University of Texas will offerhim and he just go ahead and
sign a dotted line.
It was fun on Saturday going outthere.
I took my daughter with me anda lot of old players was out
(34:17):
there, so we kind of hung outand kind of shot it around a
little bit.
It just feels like home whenyou go back.
It's fun.
They make you feel at home.
It just feels like home whenyou go back.
It's fun, they make you feel athome.
My daughter.
I walk in with my daughter.
She's like you're going tocheck in.
I was like I own this place.
Why do I need to check in?
Speaker 2 (34:39):
They need to check
with me.
See Arch Manning, he checkswith me first.
Speaker 3 (34:43):
Yeah, they're walking
on my field.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
You know?
No, stevie, I was going to askyou real quick.
You know.
I know the general fan hey, every fan should be excited
about what they want to beexcited about, but we didn't
give Quinn Ewers his roses.
However, this is the new era, manning era.
Tell people what it's likewithout.
(35:08):
I know you don't exaggerate,steve.
He's very positive but he'salso very real, so don't get it
twisted.
I know it was practice and I'mnot trying to say anything
negative at all against Quinn.
I think what Quinn brought thisprogram was phenomenal.
How is it different out therewith Arch?
(35:30):
What's the energy like?
What's different?
What's the vibe?
Speaker 3 (35:35):
That's a good
question.
I think, damn it, man, whywould you do me like this when
the receivers?
I don't know, man, this is justme and this is just what I felt
.
It's your opinion.
It might be a little biasedbecause of my previous critique
of Quinn, but when they wererunning deep routes, when Quinn
(35:59):
was there, they never finishedtheir routes on the deep ball or
deep routes because they knewthat he wasn't going to throw
them a deep ball.
What I felt was Manning waslooking deep first and then
checking down.
(36:19):
He wants the deep ball bad andhe can throw it and it's
beautiful.
You know what I mean.
So for me, when Quinn was outthere, he was looking at the 5,
10, maybe 15-yard passes.
That's what he was mainlylooking for.
When I saw Arch drop back, hiseyes was down down the field, 20
(36:41):
yards or more, and then ifthat's not there, then he's
coming down.
You know what I'm saying.
It was outward down for Manning, but for Quinn it was in out.
Yeah, you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
I get it.
You get what I'm saying, okay.
Speaker 3 (36:59):
Yeah, so that was the
energy for me, because I hit it
and the ball was pretty, it wassailing in the air and it would
drop right into the breadbasket.
So the kid got an arm and hehas the arm the right way.
Anybody can get it out there, but not everyone has the snap of
the ball to make it go up andstraight down, you know.
(37:21):
So that was good, that was afun part of it, see that's what
we were looking for Steviedelivering the goal today.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
The nuggets, yeah hey
, tiktok in the man cave.
We all see some really bizarrebut humorous stuff, but I don't
understand this.
Let's take pure lemon juiceshots, which lemon juice is very
good for you, but you tell me,is this overreaction?
Just for the talk?
(37:51):
That's a bit much.
Speaker 3 (38:18):
Actually, it's not.
I'm the same way when it comesto tart something, man, although
I do like it.
Yeah, yeah, I'm the same waywith something tart like that
man.
Speaker 2 (38:30):
That's hilarious.
Yeah, that's so funny.
Yeah, lemon juice good, I do alittle lemon juice shot every
other morning.
Really Lemon juice, andsometimes some cayenne pepper in
it.
Okay, then you flush your colonout.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
Oh, okay, maybe I
should try it.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
Hey, man, tell me
something good.
Speaker 2 (38:55):
Stevie Mother
Scratchin' Lee man.
This is such a beautiful timeof year.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
Yeah, it is Tell me
something good, my brother.
Well, something good, man.
We had Fran on the show today.
Listen, the girls are in thefinal four, the ladies are in
the final four.
That's fun.
When she said that she went andbought her ticket and I was
like it's $700.
(39:24):
I think I can swing that.
I got that in savings.
Maybe I should go to Tampa.
I want to go to Tampa to checkout the girls play, man, and
actually see the city.
And we are off this weekend forvolleyball, so I might talk to
my wife about that, but it'll befun to watch these girls play
this weekend.
That's something good is to go.
(39:44):
If you can't go out there, watch them on TV and support
your lady horns, man, becausethese girls have worked hard,
vic has worked hard and thesegirls are playing their heart
out for Vic right now, man.
So shout out to the Texaswomen's basketball team.
They are really holding it downfor the university right now.
So that's something good.
Go and hang out, and either, you know, watch it at home or go
(40:07):
and hang out and watch itsomewhere One of these bars down
here in Austin.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
And there are all
women's sports bars now that are
now in Austin.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
I heard about that.
Yeah, I heard about that place.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
It'd be great to
visit one of those and support
local.
Speaker 3 (40:22):
Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
Two part for me, man,
for us OGs here in Austin, I'm
telling you that they built thiswomen's basketball program up
to where it feels like it didwhen Fran played.
That sensation growing up herewas God.
Those girls were dominant, theywere ballers now.
(40:45):
And second part, man had.
I had two cats in my life andthey were from when I was
married.
We got them in oklahoma citywhen they were two and three
months old.
They're 15.
They're living their best lifeon my balcony.
Every now and then, just asensory overload.
Well, I think the boy, vincentroyal, is his name, as you can
(41:10):
understand what the namesake is,but I think he jumped off the
balcony last night and I'm on,I'm looking for him.
It's breaking my heart, it'skilling me.
But I want to tell yousomething good.
The outpouring of support andsuggestions to try to because
animals have their instincts arecrazy.
Thank you, guys, and let's hopewe can bring Vincent Royal home
(41:36):
, because that's my little bud.
Yeah, that's a funny, rough, thick little burrito with four
legs, but it's really great, man, when you see the support
You're asking for all thesedifferent platforms.
Try to find your pet.
(41:56):
Because, I'm going to tell yousomething, man, you lose a pet
like that.
I've never had it happen before.
It feels awful.
Speaker 1 (42:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (42:03):
But that's something
good.
Thank you to everyone out thereand for Stevie Lee man can't
ask for a better friend, abetter podcast co-host.
And to Stevie Lee's beautifulfamily you're the only male in
that house other than, I think, your dog yeah To your hometown,

nacogdoches, texas, and mybeautiful hometown, the ATX,
austin, texas, and to everybodyin the Lone Star State, midwest,
the great left coast, rightcoast and the Gulf of Mexico
