Speaker 3 (00:39):
Thank you for believing, thank you man, I'm
not gonna let you down.
Man, stevie man, the rawemotions from the nfl draft that

(01:02):
was Benjamin Morris at DB forNotre Dame, it just proves to
you how much is invested in this.
Not only do you dream of thisfor so long, but all the work,
all the blood I hate to becliche blood, sweat and tears
invested into it.
Then that moment arrives, invested into it.
Then that moment arrives youget that call before that

(01:26):
respected franchise team in theNFL or whatever sport this may
be, gives you that call and sayshey, benjamin, or hey you.
Hey, stevie Lee, this is SeanClinch with the Dallas Cowboys.
Congratulations, we're about topick you.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
Yeah, that kind of summed it up and you can tell
that kid went through a lot.
But um uh, congrats to all thekids that uh that they got
drafted this weekend.
But that right there was.
That was uh tough to watch.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
That's a tearjerker tearjerker watched it, you could
tell the kid it's just god, youlove God, you love to see it,
Love to see it.
That's why I love the draft andshout out to ESPN and the NFL
collaborating these drafts howthey made it.
They go off-site to NFLfranchises, stadiums, cities and

(02:18):
the production value has reallyincreased.
First round on the first night, then the second day is, I think
, rounds two and three and thenfour through seven.
And also a shout-out to the 512boys locally Sean Fresh, who we
had on last week from LBJ andplayed at Rice, got an undrafted

(02:43):
free agent contract still hey, that's beautiful.
And Taj Brooks from Manor, theleading rusher in Texas Tech
football history.
I believe he was drafted in theearly rounds, I believe he's
with the Cincinnati Bengals andall of the Longhorns and that is
who we're going to talk about.

(03:05):
But the 5-1-2 boys representingthe amount of talent in the
Austin area, I think they're atan all-time high.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
Yeah, yeah, I was watching, you know, just to see
where my Texas guys are going.
And then you know you're right, some of the 5-1-12 boys were
going too and I was like this ispretty cool, this is pretty
cool for the area it is reallycool and, by the way, if you're
not aware, I am sean clinch, theco-host of stories inside the

(03:34):

(03:58):
500 total.
Stevie, we're just digging inand it's going to be a lot of
fun.
We're going to talk about yourLonghorns, because it was a
record record setting weekendfor the longhorns.
Stevie, you ready, let's do it,man, let's ride baby.

Speaker 5 (04:35):
Friday I'm in the green room and it's actually
funny because I had to use thebathroom straight up.
I literally run to the bathroomand I come back and literally
there's all these cameras aroundmy family standing up.
And then I look in the middleand there's the bathroom and I
come back and literally there'sall these cameras around my
family's standing up.
And then I look in the middleand there's the commissioner and
I'm like that's my pick.
I'm like what's going on?
And I walk over there.
He just embraced me and youknow we talked for a good minute
At the end he just lets me knowlike he's waiting on me.

(04:57):
He knows that my name is goingto get called and Trust his dad.
He's like I'll wait for you.
Like if your name gets called,I'll go out there and do it for
you.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
The Green Bay Packers select Barron.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Sorrell defensive end .

Speaker 5 (05:09):
Texas.
I can't even there's no wordsthat I can put to describe just
the type of gratitude that Ihave for that.
I'm so thankful to him and Ijust I mean it speaks a lot for
the type of man he is.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
Hey, it speaks a lot to who Baron Sorrell is.
He could have easily left afterthe, say, second round Because
you're invited.
If you're in the green room, you were invited to be there in
this case in Green Bay.
Stevie, that whole story theway Baron said it.
He had to get up and go to therestroom and missed a pick and

(05:41):
then you know you've got to zipup quickly, get out of that
restroom.
Once you find out things, thatadrenaline rush really hits.
But man, what a great story forthat Texas defensive lineman,
barron Sorrell, number 88, goodkid, and I think Green Bay got a
steal with that one.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
Yeah, no question.
I don't know why he droppeddown to the fourth round, but
they did get a steal and I thinkhe's going to use that also
with a chip on his shoulder.
That's a good point yeah and goout there and prove to people
why they missed out on him orwhy they passed on him all the
way down to the fourth round.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
Yeah, and that's kind of going to be a theme of this
episode trying to figure out why, why certain people dropped,
and, of course, with theclickbait material that is on
social media and through thecoverage of something like this,
everyone has an opinion why,and some of it was unjust, but

(06:44):
we'll get to that shortly.
Before we do that, got to givea big shout out to our family
with the Hargrove Roofing Family, that is, they make this
possible.
Based out of Shreveport, grewand jumped the Sabine River into
Texas and they have been in theAustin area for over a half a
decade now and that's theconnection to Stevie Lee Austin

(07:06):
area for over a half a decadenow and that's the connection to
Stevie Lee and he does a greatjob of promoting the brand as we
do on our podcast.
Stevie Lee man, you do it best.
Let's hear it.
Hargrove Roofing knows who's onyour roof and, like Ty
Harrington said, uh, on a coupleof past episodes, it is
important to know who's on yourroof.
Yeah, you never want somebodythat's randomly on your roof,

(07:31):
but when you look at, when youjust tie the knot and just
really look back at this draft, texas had three first-rounders,
three first-round picks.
You know, calvin Banks.
Big tackle to New Orleans, matthew Golden.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
And.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
I loved his getup, his attire To the Packers, the
hometown of the NFL draft thisyear and Jadae Barron three
first rounders.
I think that's the first timesince 1980.
1980?
I believe so.

Speaker 4 (08:04):
Oh wow, three first rounders 19 that's good, that's.
It was fun to watch man and uhshout out to all those guys,
just uh, putting in all the hardwork and um and actually uh, um
, realizing a dream, a dreamcome true.
Um, I really like that the waythey carried themselves.

(08:29):
The Texas way.
Banks was excited and hangingout with his family.
He knew he was going to befirst round, but he wanted to be
around his family.
He didn't go to the draft, itwas just fun to watch.
It was fun to see our Texasguys that we've watched for the
last, you know some four years, three or four years and just to

(08:55):
see them get drafted and and seethat that they're going to
actually play on at a high levelnext year was fun.
It was fun for me.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
It's fun.
And it's also fun because rightnow you're watching us.
It's Tuesday evening and we'restill talking about it After a
long, hard day at the office, soto speak.
In our mobile offices we'restill got that adrenaline rush
excited.
Matthew Golden a success storyas a transfer portal guy.
He bettered himself, enteredthe portal from University of

(09:27):
Houston.
He made the right decision.
He increased his draft stock.
Now we mentioned 5-1-2, boys aswe opened the show Today.
Barron is one of those and fromConnolly High School, basically
in Austin, but it's in thePflugerville Independent School
District Selected 20th overallby the Denver Broncos.
I may be wrong on this, butthere are now five former

(09:50):
Longhorns on the Denver Broncosroster and one thing we noticed
this past season or two is howstrong and the amount of
faith-based Longhorns that areon the roster.
And Jaday was asked at hispress conference in Denver about

(10:10):
why he feels so confident inhimself as a rookie, not only
lining up against some of thebest in the league but lining up
and competing against some onthe Broncos roster period.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
At the end of the day , it's my confidence and I get
my confidence from God.
I go out there with no worries.
I'm going to go out there andplay Flass, I'm going to find
him.
So if I'm going to find him, Ican do that all day.
And I can do that fast, notworried of making mistakes and
things like that, just to honorhim.
When you honor him and just bea light bulb for him, just be
his servant.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
You know it's always good Stevie today, consistent,
he just gets it.

Speaker 4 (10:59):
Yeah, yeah, and you're right, consistent.
You just said it because he hada similar interview when he won
the Thorpe Award.
You know he gave all the honorto God for giving him the
ability to play this game.
He's very consistent and I likethat word that was on his that
clip.
There it said what is it,christ-ly, christ-ly.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
I think that's the platform that posted that.

Speaker 4 (11:24):
But I like that word Christ's League.
I mean he's just giving honorto the most high on giving him
the ability to do what he do.
So that's fun, that's good.

Speaker 3 (11:37):
And there's a good number of them and we'll have
another wave of Longhorns justlike that this time next year.
All in all, a 12 Longhornsselected in the NFL draft.
That's the most ever from theLonghorns in a seven-round draft
.
It used to be additional rounds, but after seven rounds, 12

(11:58):
Longhorns, that's obviously overone per round.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
On average more than one.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
It would have had two more drafted, it would have
been two Longhorns average perround, which is impressive, yeah
.
And then if you think aboutundrafted free agents and
there's a lot, I don't rememberthe number.
I don't remember the number, but I want to say a third of the
guys on NFL rosters wereundrafted free agents and

(12:32):
there's seven more of thoseLonghorns who signed undrafted
free agent contracts, includinga non-Longhorn, that being Sean
Fresh, as we mentioned, from LBJand Rice, but one.
I could not believe it.
He left Alabama to increase hisdraft stock as a talented.

(12:54):
Well, no one's questioningIsaiah Bond's talent, but
projected potentially firstround didn't go, went undrafted
and as of right now, as we'retalking, unless something's
changed, he's not under a freeagent, undrafted free agent
contract.
Yet.
Your thoughts on that?

Speaker 4 (13:16):
There's probably some , you know okay.
So you know, the NFL does anextensive background check
before they write you a check.
Yeah, every team does it.
Every team has their ownprivate investigators and things
like that.
And I'm just, I'm hoping thebest for Bond, but they found

(13:37):
something to not to pass on atalent like him.
They found something in hispast or something in his
character that they just don'twant to pull the trigger on.
Yet Now he can.
I mean, people change andthings change and things like
that.
So somebody is going to get afirst round talent for cheap,
for so if he can oh, he's not, Idon't know prove his innocence,

(14:06):
he's not under investigation oranything like that, but prove
that he's different from whatthey think they are.
Somebody's going to get a greatreceiver for pennies, basically
, yeah.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
And we hope there's no legal issues for him or
anyone.
You know there was somebodyleaked cell phone numbers.
Isaiah Bonds was one of them.
Some young college kids wereplaying pranks pretending to be
representing the Atlanta Falconsand calling him, pretending to

(14:43):
be.
That's awful and I don't thinkthere's any legal ramifications.
But that's a horrible joke toplay on anyone.
I don't know.
I thought that was absolutebullshit and it's not because
he's a longhorn.
I just think that's.
I'm all about jokes and sarcasm, but that's not something you do

(15:06):
, because that's an individual'slivelihood and what they've
looked for.
But I've got to tell yousomething, stevie.
I got a question is texasbecoming running back you?
And I want to show you why.
You know they call it dbu, withall the dbs in the league.
But after this it's a legitquestion, a legit debate.

(15:28):
So far on this drive it's beenthe rushing attack and here's
Jay Blue.
Blue threw him off the rightedge Inside the 20, turning the
Jets into the end zone.
Touchdown.
Jay Blue's fast and he's had towait behind some great ones.
Jaden Blue's fast and he's hadto wait behind some great ones.
Bijan, jonathan Brooks, youknow Roshan all on NFL rosters.

(15:55):
Jaden Blue do you see him beingmaybe a difference maker and
also a steal in the fifth round.
Could he make an impact withthe Cowboys?

Speaker 4 (16:04):
Definitely, he definitely could.
This past season we playedagainst some stellar defensive
lines and he still did reallywell, I think, going into the
league.
I think that he has the visionand the speed to hit the edge

(16:28):
and make something happen for anNFL team.
I like this graphic that youput up, man, and that's
absolutely true.
I mean, all those guys are bigtime running backs at the
University of Texas, but alsocontinuing their careers in the
league and they're doing very, very well in the league right
now, especially Bijan.
I love watching them play atAtlanta.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
Three consecutive years.
Five Longhorn running backsdrafted Keylon I can't remember
who took this photo, but it'sbeautiful During a game.
Keylon Robinson, Roshon Johnson, jonathan Brooks I hope his
knee gets healthy Now Jaden andthen Bijan Five running backs

(17:11):
drafted from the same university.
Look at that.
Three consecutive years withactive running backs on the NFL
roster or drafted.
It's impressive man.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
I mean, can you be DBU and RBU?

Speaker 4 (17:28):
You can also be NFLU man.
We got some defensive tacklesout there right now.
We got some offensive linemenout there right now.
We got a lot of players in theleague right now.
I would love to know thestatistics of how many players
are in the league right now onactive rosters right now that

(17:52):
are.
Is there more out there thanthe University of Texas?
I'm sure there is, but I'm surewe're really high on that list.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
It's obviously top ten.
And you know a similar question, it's obviously top 10.
And you know a similar questionwhich college football program
produced the most draftselections this year?
And this is an interestingstatistic.
But Texas, obviously, if youthink about it, clearly top
three on this.

(18:20):
But this may shock you a littlebit Texas, with the 12 and the
two teams that Texas faced thisyear Georgia twice Ohio State.
Obviously, in the nationalsemifinal, which in my opinion
was the national championshipgame, ohio State had 14 drafted,

(18:41):
georgia 13, Texas 12, followedby Oregon and Ole Miss.
I mean it should come as nosurprise the more NFL talent a
program has, or that you developinto NFL caliber talent, the
more success.
I mean it's a simplecorrelation.

Speaker 4 (19:03):
Yeah, you said at first that it may surprise.
I'm not surprised.
This is par for the course.
I think that that's spot on.
We could have had a couple moredrafted, I think, but I think
we could have been up there at14.

(19:24):
There was a couple of guys thatgot free agent deals that
probably should have beendrafted.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
Yeah, and those undrafted free agent contracts?
I don't think anybody.
I know it's disappointing atfirst for some, but the beauty
of an undrafted free agency isyou get to pick where you go
depending upon the optionspresented to you, and that's,
that's the beauty of being anundrafted free agent.

(19:50):
It's going to be a littletougher, um, if, as far as
training camp and and as youmentioned it earlier, that chip
on your shoulder can go a longways.
All right, stevie Lee, this isnot my grade.

(20:10):
This is basically an average ofthree websites that I have seen
that.
Have the Dallas Cowboys got anA with their draft?
Were you able to check out theCowboys draft class?

Speaker 4 (20:25):
Not all of it, I was just looking at the draft as a
whole.
But an A Listen, I'm here forit, do you know?

Speaker 5 (20:37):
who gave him the.

Speaker 4 (20:38):
A-minus.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
It was.
No worries.

Speaker 4 (20:41):
I just think that an A-minus that's pretty high man.
So you got to make some noisein the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
Well, you hate to give the Jerry Jones any credit.
Well, you hate to give theJerry Jones any credit, but
maybe he allowed the team to domore than him just saying no,
this is what I want to do.
We're going to do it my way.
But you know, they started offwith Tyler Booker, the offensive
lineman.
That's a big get.
You've got to replenish thatO-line.

(21:08):
It has a big turnover right now.
And then the edge rusher fromBoston Kyle is Donovan Ezaraku.
I butchered that they needanother edge on the side.
Then they've got a corner, tworunning backs.
Obviously, jaden Blue is one ofthem.
Another two defensive linemenand they got that big running

(21:30):
back from Clemson who was kindof banged up.
So they got two running backsJaden Blue and Phil Moffa, who
played at Clemson Bruiser, gethim healthy.
He's going to be your shortyardage guy.

Speaker 4 (21:43):
Got you?
Yeah, we got to see it, man,you know I'm tired of putting my
hope into the Dallas Cowboysand then getting let down at the
end of the season, so I'm goingto just shut up and wait.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
Yeah, I'm going to shut up and detach my emotions
for a third in the consecutiveseasons.
Hey, the proof.
You got to develop it and yougot to stay healthy.
Let's give them a break there.
But you know, when we talkabout the quarterbacks, there
were 14 quarterbacks selected inthis draft.

(22:17):
Shador Sanders, I definitelywant to.
I don't know.
I don't know, but here's thevideo.
I thought this was a cool videoedited before we really get
into that.
You know, he's Deion's son.
He and Shallow Sanders, both onthat Colorado Buffalo team,

(22:40):
both expected to get drafted.
Obviously, sador thehigher-rated prospect man.
He had to wait a long time andthis was kind of the video of
kind of documenting that.
And Shiloh's the one kind ofribbing his brother right here.

(23:01):
It's pretty funny.

Speaker 5 (23:03):
I don't even know what they're going to do with me
, bro, because they're doing youlike this.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
Making him wait.
Oh, what Me?
Oh you're good me.

Speaker 3 (23:12):
Oh, you're good bro so it goes to the cleveland
browns.
Cleveland selected twoquarterbacks.
Um, this whole shador sanders Ihave a problem with.
Everyone's entitled to theiropinion, but there were a lot of

(23:35):
irresponsible opinions.
What I mean by that?
Going after saying, hey, franchises didn't want to deal
with Dion Shador, had bad, reportedly had bad interviews
during the sessions leading upto the draft, came after him,

(23:55):
called him lazy, called him thisand that.
I think it's just a matter ofwhich franchise was up and if
that talent, that quarterbackavailable or did they need a
quarterback?
Not all these franchises need aquarterback, they already have.
And did these franchises see,in his case, was he a fit for

(24:20):
their organization?
You think I'm on to somethingthere and if you disagree, it's
fine.
That's what's the beauty of it.
We have different opinions andI'm not defending him.
I'm just saying that I thinkthis was more a matter of
timeliness opposed to theindividual and who his dad is.

Speaker 4 (24:39):
Nah 100% disagree.
This is who he is, the way hemoves and who his daddy is 100%.
So why Hold on?
You turn a one and nine teamaround at Colorado into a bowl

(25:03):
eligible team Two years straight.
You take Jackson State and dowhat you did with them.
Take Jackson State and do whatyou did with them.
He did this stuff at Coloradowith a terrible offensive line.
Terrible he Shador Sanders is.

(25:26):
You know, Cam Ward is great.
I love watching him play EvenJalen Merrow here.
He's good.
But I can't see any otherquarterbacks over Shador Sanders
right now, Other than maybe Camand Melro.
Okay, and for people saying that, he the baggage that come along

(25:57):
.
We're grown men, we're grownmen, man.
So you, what these GMs aretelling me, the ones that took
quarterbacks what these GMs aretelling me is you can't handle
the things that go on around theSanders family, so you go and

(26:17):
pick someone else, right?
You're not adult enough tohandle the things that goes
around.
And for me, it's just theirpersonality, it's just them
being 100% who they are.
That's a sense of belonging.
If you want me the way I am, Idon't want to have to be a

(26:38):
different person around you oryour program.

Speaker 3 (26:40):
That's what I mean.
The right franchise.
Is he or whoever, a good fit?
That's my whole point.
I don't know, man.

Speaker 4 (26:55):
You don't have to worry about a fit in your
program.
Get the best talent.
Just go get the best talent.
He's not in legal trouble.
He's not doing bad things, it'sjust the spotlight that's
around him.
If it's not anything illegalthat he's doing, if it's not

(27:16):
anything like they have a drugproblem, is it?
What is it that made you passon him and take somebody like?
You see the names on the list.
Why would you take these guysover Shador?
Is it something legal that he'sdealing with?

(27:40):
Is it something his physicaltalent shows us that he can play
the game of football?
But you are so tied up into thepersonality that you pass on
him.
That just doesn't make sense tome as a GM.

Speaker 3 (27:56):
Well, yeah, I mean, that's my whole point is so
there are five quarterbackstaken in the draft before Sador,
before Sador, okay, 144th pickoverall, and I'm just trying to
figure out what exactly it is.
What was out there, you know, and Tyler with the Saints.

(28:20):
Yep.
So why would the Browns taketwo quarterbacks in the same
draft so close?

Speaker 4 (28:35):
together.
Yeah, because one, sanders fellto them and they actually made
a trade to go get him Right.
That's true, yep.
And two, they got a little bitof a trade stock.
I mean, I know it's a littlebit late to where they got these
guys, but there's some tradestock in there.
You know, they go to trainingcamp, someone quarterback goes

(28:58):
down and they can trade Sadur orDillon.
Well, I don't think anybody'sgoing to want to pick up the
Sean Watson's contract, thefully guaranteed contract that
he got, but they got some draft,I think, not draft stock, but
some trade stock with that too.
So I think they're thinkingabout the future.

(29:19):
But Sadur Sanders, he'sdefinitely.
We talked about playing with achip on your shoulder.
I think that kid's going toplay with a big chip on his
shoulder.
And to prove everyone wrong, hehumbled himself.
He came out and said maybe Idid some things wrong through

(29:39):
this draft process.

Speaker 3 (29:40):
He lost some money, yeah.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
And he said maybe I did something wrong.
That's him humbling himself.
And so y'all passed on a kidthat actually said maybe I did
something wrong.
But thank God that I'm here nowand I just got to go out there
and show them what's wrong withthat.
What's wrong with a kid thatsays that, Like some other kid

(30:03):
can say something like that,it's a learning moment?

Speaker 3 (30:06):
Yeah, if that's what he means.
I don't know him and I've neverinteracted with him, so I can't
.
I don't know him and I've neverinteracted with him, so I can't
.
I don't have an opinion, thatis, again, I'm not belittling or
coming after people withvitriol opinions.
I just if you've never met aperson or interviewed them or

(30:27):
interacted with them and claimto know all these things, why
put it out there?

Speaker 4 (30:32):
Yeah, yeah.
The other thing is, I knowwe're talking about Shadur, but
Melro people were talking abouthow he had a bad interview and
said some other things.
People, I think these GMs aregetting in their own way right
now.
Just look at the film man, theeye in the sky don't lie.

(30:57):
And they have NFL security, they have NFL mental health
professionals.
So I believe that people changeand you can get people right
mentally and with behavioradjustments and things like that
.
What you can't not pass on isthe raw talent that's shown on

(31:22):
the field, because you can'tmanufacture that.
You can't manufacturebehavioral issues and things
like that.
I agree, yeah.

Speaker 3 (31:32):
That's just me, man.
No, no, no, I get it and youknow.
And there's two FCS, one doublea quarterbacks that were
drafted, and then Curtis Rourke, the Canadian quarterback from
Indiana, you know, in that greatyear they have, but the one
that you know Texas fans hadtheir eye on, I meaninn, was the

(31:53):
last quarterback selected inthe seventh and final round.
I mean the look of relief onhim when he was watching the
draft of this family.
To wait that long did you?
Did you think it would take hewould be selected that late,
almost at the end of the draft.

Speaker 4 (32:14):
I didn't think it was going to be at the end of the
draft.
I thought that he was a fourth, fifth round guy.
Yeah, I was leaning towardsmore fourth round, but to go
that far down that was tough, and for someone that put their
team in the college footballplayoffs twice back to back.

Speaker 3 (32:37):
And was not truly healthy.
What was that?
And not truly healthy either.

Speaker 4 (32:42):
Yeah, yeah.
So that could be one of theissues, because he's never
finished a full season.
That's a good point, that's agood point he's never finished a
full season.
He's always been out at leasttwo games.
That right there is.
That could play a big role init, because as you get to the

(33:03):
NFL, these dudes just get biggerand stronger.
If you can't take a hit fromthe college guys, taking a hit
from these faster, bigger NFLguys, maybe that's what they're
putting into consideration,right.

Speaker 3 (33:20):
So I would say I'm not guaranteeing, I'm not
putting money on it.
I would venture to say almostall of the quarterbacks on the
left side, they'll be on theroster.
The quarterbacks on the rightside, they'll be on the roster.
The quarterbacks on the rightside are not guaranteed spots on
the roster.
They've got to earn it andprove their worth at OTAs, which

(33:42):
starts soon and then trainingcamp.
But you've also got to proveyour value of what else you
bring to an organization, andthat's the hard part.
For someone like Quinn, nothing's guaranteed here.
One thing that Steve Sarkeesiandid say yesterday he did say

(34:05):
something to the effect and Imay be a little off on this that
Quinn turned down NIL moneyfrom the Texas NIL collective to
not transfer and to hand thekeys over to Arch so he could go
pursue his NFL dreams.
He did not take NIL moneyrecently.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
So you're saying that they offered him NIL money to
go away?

Speaker 3 (34:32):
Well, no, you've got to go read it and listen to how
he said it, but I think it wastoward the end of the season or
the end of last year.
He didn't accept, he didn'ttake any more NIL money.

Speaker 4 (34:46):
Well, the other interesting storyline about this
is, you know, he did haveanother year of eligibility and
he did have a.
He was eligible to transfer.
Right, he could have gonesomewhere else and gotten some
NIL money, but chose to go tothe draft draft Do we talk about

(35:12):
.
Was that a good move?
Go and make another, whateversomeone was going to pay you in
college, and then try to improveyour draft stock for 2026 draft
.
Or go out right now and getthis seven round pick, you know.
Financial he's set.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
But those guys on the right, the amount of money
they're guaranteed or signingbonuses or whatnot, they're
probably making more in collegeat their NIL deal.
In college, at their NIL deal,For guys like Will Howard, Riley

(35:55):
Leonard, maybe Curtis Rourkeand definitely Quinn Ewers were
making more, but the other guysprobably not.
Nil is not as significant atsome, like you know, the lower,
non-Power 4 school Power 5.

Speaker 4 (36:15):
But as far as he wanted to leave his legacy here
or maybe that's the narrativethat that he was wants to paint-
yeah, the other thing that Ithought about in this draft too
is um, golly, you know, therewas a lot of kids that slipped
and and kind of a lot, a lot ofthem that that that was
projected here and and is justdoing this right here, and so

(36:35):
what we need to also look at isthe quality of agents that are
out there representing thesekids, because yours should have
known that he was going to droplike that and, I'm sorry, the
defense of Indiana, texas, thatwent Barron.

(36:56):
Barron should have known, through research, through his
agency, where he was going to be, you know, so he can prepare
draft day accordingly Right, correct, you know what I'm
saying.
Like Shador should have had anagent to know.
What are they saying about me?

(37:17):
What do I need to work on andwhat do I need to do in these
interviews?
You know there's you have toseek counsel.
I mean, that's biblical.
You know you have to seekcounsel and you have to seek the
correct counsel.
You know this is a hugedecision.
Nfl teams have tons of peoplein and the pro days on campus,

(38:01):
you know.
So, for me, we, the way thisdraft worked out, we actually
need to look at what these NFLagents are actually doing out
there for these kids.

Speaker 3 (38:12):
Well, it's also organizational.
Each organization, you knowsome, have former NFL players
who are in their front office.
I mean they evaluate, they givereports.
There's a staff of people Imean Deuce Vaughn's dad, chris

(38:33):
Vaughn, is on the Cowboys staff,or was, I think he still is.
That total job is to scout andevaluate, watch film, produce
reports like we do in our jobs, produce reports, analysis,
thorough investigation, thoroughinformation, and to apply that

(38:53):
information towards their needsin their football operations.
And to your point, what yousaid earlier, it's a thorough
background check and you knowpeople are not perfect.
Can those imperfections alignwith that organization's culture
, so to speak?
No shot on, like Baron Sorrell,I don't know why.

(39:18):
Maybe they saw limitations onhis contribution.
Is he just a third down typeguy?
Is he just a pass rush?
Is he not what we need againstthe run?
I don't know, I don't know.
I don't know that answer.
But yeah, you bring up somereally truly valid points.

(39:38):
So, man, good job, stevie, onthe feedback.
Wrapping up the draft, one guythat was drafted in 1998,
calling the X-Man, jeremiahtrotter this was him on the top,
with his uh, I think his secondstint or third stint with the
eagles and when they had a greatteam and then on the bottom was

(40:01):
last year.
He has two sons, jeremiah jrplay at clemson, picked up by
the phil, which where Trotter isbeloved, and we all know what
last year's Philadelphia teamdid.
This is pretty cool, woo.

Speaker 1 (40:21):
It's off.

Speaker 3 (40:31):
Congratulations, man.
How cool is that?
Holding Jeremiah Jr in his arms.
So I went back to Nacogdoches,to my alma mater, stephen F
Austin, this past weekend andshout out to Colby Carthel, the
head coach, vip alumni of thispodcast.
Well, jeremiah Trotter is now aVIP alumni.
We had a really cool NILfundraising dinner at Homer

(40:51):
Bryce Stadium at Stephen F.
Jeremiah Trotter is now a VIPalumni.
We had a really cool NILfundraising dinner at Homer
Bryce Stadium at Stephen FJeremiah Trotter, xavier Gibson,
who plays with the Chiefs, andLarry Centers and two other guys
who are on active rosters.
Great night, great conversation, and Trotter and I.
Before the spring game thispast Saturday we had a
conversation and it's on episode460.

(41:15):
It's a good quick episode, 15minutes in length, and you know,
jeremiah Trotter has a youngerson who just transferred to
Missouri.
He's also a linebacker andit'll be cool if you have two
Trotters in that legacy in theNFL.
Hey, we're going to speedthings up before we take a break
.
There's a lot of groceryshaking in that Round Rock

(41:37):
Express dugout.
We'll be right back man, manhamstrings pulled by both of us
yeah, absolutely man.

Speaker 4 (41:50):
But but let me say this about round rock uh,
express, it's fun out there.
It's a lot of fun.
I, I love going to the daygames.
If I, if I find a day game Idon't have much to do for work
I'll head over there grab a beer, sit behind home plate for 12
bucks.
I mean, you can't beat it, man.
It's a lot of fun and you cansee some talent out there, man.

(42:11):
Sometimes those guys coming offof IR are playing here in Round
Rock and they get called backup to the big leagues, man.
So it's fun, it's a lot of funout there.

Speaker 3 (42:20):
Texas Rangers AAA franchise.
They're this close to the bigshow.
A lot of great talent, allthose World Series teams.
A lot of those guys played inRound Rock Go back to 2009, 2010
.
You know, they went througheven when they were the Astros
affiliate.
A lot of those guys camethrough Round Rock.
It is fun.

(42:40):
It's a great venue, great staffChris Almond-Daris, tim Jackson
.

Speaker 4 (42:46):
I saw Al Tuve come and play here.

Speaker 3 (42:50):
Yep, he's shorter than me.
We don't see eye to eye.
I love that, I love that.
But Altuve, yeah, good talent.
He's nearing the end, butHouston's still hanging in there
.
Hey, I've got a.
There's a lot of sweeping, asweeping segment, and segment
two got to get Stevie's takes onthe NBA playoffs, particularly

(43:13):
one team.
I'm not biased, I promise.
And those fighting JimSchlossnagels say two words Poor
Aggies, yeah, man, poor Aggies,we'll man, poor Aggies, we'll
see you on the other side ofthis break and after this

(43:34):
message from our partners atHargrove Roofing, stevie Lee
with the straight face acting.

Speaker 6 (43:40):
Here at Hargrove Roofing we try to think outside
the box, to kind of get thecreative juices flowing.
So I brought in my friendStevie Lee, former defensive
tackle for the Texas Longhorns.
He's going to help the teamstrategize, really motivate them
.
Light a fire.

Speaker 4 (43:53):
This guy's going to block down.
This guy's going to block down.
You put your butt into theguard and that way my Mike
linebacker gets free to do what.

Speaker 6 (44:03):
Not only are they going to learn a thing or two,
but they're going to also leavewith a great attitude and a
bunch of smiles on their faces.

Speaker 3 (44:10):
I'm sorry.
What does this have to do withroofing exactly?

Speaker 1 (44:14):
Get out Right now.

Speaker 5 (44:17):
I said get out.

Speaker 6 (44:21):
For me, that's what it's all about.
It's just having fun making ouremployees have a great time.
Hargrove Roofing know who's onyour roof?
Okc, okc, okc, okc, okc.

Speaker 3 (44:56):
That's fine Thunder up, let's go, baby hey.
Best environment in theassociation that all started in
2009 or 10 those fans.
They communicate through aprivate facebook page, and when,

(45:18):
though, when that team comesback from a road playoff game
day or night, it could be threein the morning they're there
behind that fence every time theteam returns.

Speaker 4 (45:31):
Yeah yeah, that's a lot of fun when, it being a
small market team, they pour alot.
The fans pour a lot into thatteam there.
Man, I was thinking about that.
This weekend I was in Salt LakeCity, which is considered
another small market team buteveryone had jazz stuff on.

(45:52):
It felt like being in OklahomaCity.
Everyone is the thunder, thunder down everything man.

Speaker 3 (45:59):
Thunder down.

Speaker 4 (46:00):
Yeah or thunder up.
What do they say?
That's cool for them.
I have a client on the team atOKC and I gave him a congrats.
He gave me a thumbs up afterthat, so it's fun for them to go
on to the next round and to getsome rest right now.

Speaker 3 (46:22):
Let's bring that client into the man cave.

Speaker 4 (46:26):
We can try.
We can try.
But those guys, they have toget money to come in right, but
but here's the deal.

Speaker 3 (46:34):
Sam presti, the gm of the thunder incredible.
He comes from the spursorganization, which is tight
yeah, they don't allow many, andeven when I was in the media in
OKC, we had availabilitiesShoot around at the facility and
then before and after the gamefor a short window.

(46:54):
Stuff like this is hard to comeby.
I asked Sean Fresh, I'll askyou.
Okc clearly the best team inthe league in the regular season
.
Can they hold up and get pastthis opponent In the Western
Semis and In the Western Finalsand yank it to the NBA Finals.

Speaker 4 (47:18):
I don't know.
It's too tight for me, man.
There's some good teams in theWest.
There's also some good teams Inthe East.
I think this next round Isgoing to be a real tough round,
man.

Speaker 3 (47:30):
Yeah, Real tough.
I mean they had the mostdouble-digit wins this season.
The Thunder, they're fun towatch.

Speaker 6 (47:39):
They are.

Speaker 3 (47:40):
I highly encourage people to go to OKC, go to the
Thunderdome, now known as Paycom, the Paycom Arena, and it is so
much fun on Reno Avenue beforea game and in midtown.
Go to OKC and get you some ofthat.
You'll be glad that I mentionedit All.

(48:01):
Right, Stevie, I never doubtedJim Slosnago.
I never doubted this programand his assistants, Max Wiener,

(48:23):
Nolan Cain, that entire staff, what they've done.
Texas is doing things above anyexpectation right now Number one
in the country, 37-5 overall, but listen to this 19-2 in the

(48:46):
SEC, a five-game lead overArkansas, with three SEC series
remaining at Arkansas this weekat home against Florida, and
then they close out the regularseason at Oklahoma.
Okay, SEC is the creme de lacreme of college baseball.
Texas lost their top gunpitcher last week a soreness,

(49:09):
and he's going to have to havesurgery.
He's done Perhaps top threepitchers in the country.
What did they do?
A&m had a horrible, shitty startto their season, yeah, but they
have quickly ascended and gotthings on track and they're a
pretty good baseball team.
Texas swept A&M at the dish.

(49:29):
All three games decided by onerun, and when you figure out a
way to win those close games, that's something within your
team but sweeping the Aggies.
That's why you saw thatcelebration.
It's a little different becauseyou beat what they call and I
got to give the Texas baseballsocial media team.

(49:49):
They recap the team victoryover the series, win the
sweeping of A&M and it sayscheck out this episode of Little
Brother or Big Brother.

Speaker 4 (50:05):
That's good stuff, man.
I told you earlier, man, thatthese Aggies are doing something
special.
I mean I'm sorry stuff, man.
I told you earlier, man, thatthese Aggies are doing something
special.
I mean I'm sorry.
Oh wow, these Longhorns aredoing something special, man.
But it always feel good to beatthe Aggies, man, just to beat
up on the Aggies.
Now, we knew that the Aggieswere going to come in with a
chip on their shoulder becausewe got their coach and they

(50:29):
played their hearts out.
Trying to beat Big Brother, andBig Brother was like hold my
beer, Let me show y'allsomething.
So it was fun, that was fun andI'm happy that these guys got
that series win, series sweep.
But that was just for fun.
The real, real action is aboutto happen, in a couple weeks

(50:53):
when we get into postseason play.

Speaker 3 (50:55):
Well, I would venture to say this weekend is going to
be very real at Arkansas, whereyou're hated, and it's a
long-standing rivalry inbaseball.
Arkansas traditionally has beengood for a long time.

Speaker 4 (51:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (51:11):
I mean dating.
These two used to play forSouthwest Conference
Championships forever.
I still remember 87, the winnerof that series on the last
series of the year won theconference championship.

Speaker 4 (51:25):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (51:27):
So they've got a lot.
It's going to get tougher.
Right now, texas would be thenumber one overall seed if the
postseason started today.
I still don't think the SECtournament, which is a big deal
in Hoover, alabama, I don'tthink that conference tournament
was going to mean much forTexas.
Gotcha TikTok in the man cave Idiscovered this lady she's 90

(51:51):
years old and her daughterdocuments video of taking her
mom everywhere and she rides herdaughter hardcore.
This is this is just a sample.
This is thorough entertainment.
Good 38 seconds ofentertainment right here.

Speaker 1 (52:09):
I need a Bloody Mary.
After spending 30 minutes withyou, I need hard liquor.
Well, you know, let me just geta bottle of whiskey and I'll
drink out of it.
I love you dearly, but you actlike you're naughty.
You're an old, decrepit oldwoman and you're in the prime of
your life.
You ought to be somewheredancing.
You're never like cheering andI am too cheery.

(52:34):
You had that colonoscopy theother day.
I was hoping they'd take thatdamn stick out of your ass while
you were up there on the thinggetting done.
I mean you, mom, I don't stick.
Yeah, you got to stick up youra.

Speaker 4 (52:50):
Sometimes mom knows best man.

Speaker 3 (52:52):
She does, mom's always know best.

Speaker 1 (52:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (52:56):
The funny thing, stevie, what caught my attention
when I first saw?
That that woman's voice soundedjust like Mama C.

Speaker 4 (53:05):
Really.

Speaker 3 (53:09):
And they say similar things to me when I'd be driving
Mama C Really.
And they say similar things tome when I'd be driving Mama C
around.

Speaker 4 (53:13):
Yeah, that's funny, that's good Good stuff, man.

Speaker 3 (53:16):
Get on my ass.
She goes shut up.
I don't want to hear it.
You remember I'm your mother.
I need a margarita, yeah.

Speaker 1 (53:26):
Hey man, Tell me something good.

Speaker 3 (53:33):
Arguably the best part of the show for some.
I know, I know these get alittle long sometimes, but it's
worth it, man, to see thesebeautiful smiles, especially the
guy on the right.
But hey, we're going to upliftyou.
Tell me something good, mybrother.

Speaker 4 (53:51):
Man, I'm going to take it back.
I'm going to take it to myexperience that I had this
weekend.
My daughter has her last clubvolleyball tournament this
weekend.
It was nationals.
It was the 18s nationals In herdivision.
They finished top five in thecountry.

(54:13):
Hats off to her.
Love what she's doing.
She's gotten her tuition paidfor for college.
That's so nice.
This is great.
The tournament was in Salt LakeCity.
I spent some time in Salt LakeCity, guys.
I spent some time in Salt LakeCity, guys.
This is a beautiful place upthere.
I guess this is myrecommendations too.

(54:35):
But if you got any kind of timeand looking at doing a vacation
in the States, salt Lake City, utah is a beautiful place.
It's so picturesque.
Everywhere you look issnow-capped mountains.
We drove up to Park City tohang out, love Main Street, park
City, and then we drove up themountain to St Regis to have

(54:57):
dinner.
How?

Speaker 1 (54:59):
long was that drive.

Speaker 4 (55:01):
From Salt Lake to St Regis or from Salt Lake to Park
City.
It was like 30, 40 minutes.

Speaker 3 (55:08):
Is it a hairy drive up the mountain?

Speaker 4 (55:11):
No, it's a beautiful drive up the mountain Beautiful,
yeah.
You're passing throughmountains and some farmland and
some cool golf courses out there.
It's just really pretty man,it's beautiful.
So something good.
We live in a country wherethere's different landscapes
around, but this is a cool place.

(55:37):
Get out, enjoy, experienceAmerica I have through my kids
volleyball and through footballand the things I've done, but I
was always sleeping on Salt LakeCity, utah.
Don't do that.
Get out there and go, don't doit.
Don't do it, man.
It's fun, it was fun.
The people are nice.
They say it's like Mormoncountry and I guess it is.

(56:01):
But you don't feel all that.
You just feel just people justbeing really nice to you in Salt
Lake.
Then, going up to Park City, everyone's still nice, good
people are all around and justbeautiful.
You can just take a picture andmake a painting on your wall
anywhere in Salt Lake or ParkCity.

Speaker 3 (56:23):
It should be on a canvas.
You see those beautiful photos.
I'm with you, I'm all.
Whenever I travel or or evenhere in austin area, I always
try to find, on the weekendsespecially try to find a moment
in nature, but mine's going tobe quick.
Uh, kind of alluded to it.
Um, east texas is very specialto me, uh, because when I I was

(56:45):
born and raised in Austin but Iwanted to get at least four
hours away from home to go tocollege, I chose the right place
and for so long when I got intothe media I was not able to go
back.
So when I moved back to Austinand to Texas since late 2012,

(57:05):
I've been able to go back overthere and I had a full weekend.
It was SFA spring footballweekend, all those guys from
those teams, and then we had athere's a new administration
there, leadership, and then Ihad my fraternity alumni weekend
and golf and all that.
I don't know.

(57:25):
I'll just tell you, man, itreally hit my heart because I
just realized sometimes we takethose things for granted and to
be able to go somewhere likethat.
And on the way back I stopped ata place called Ratcliffe Lake.
I was driving through the woods.
Basically, this highway goesright through the forest, a
national forest.
I went to Ratcliffe Lake.

(57:46):
It took about a 30-minute hikeon my way back home to Austin
there you go.
Absolutely stunning.
It almost looks like untouchedland and I could hear the echoes
of unknown wildlife justechoing through the timbers.
And it's what I needed.
And little things like that arethe trickling of water.

(58:09):
I'm going deep.
But man, you're right, Go seethat nature.
America has a lot to offer andgo see it, brother.
It has been fun, as always.
So, to Stevie Lee and hisbeautiful family, and to the
Hargroves out of Shreveport andin Texas, and to my alma mater,

(58:32):
college alma mater hometown, nacogdoches, texas, and to my
beautiful hometown, austin,Texas, and wherever you're
listening and watching, thankyou, we love you, we really
appreciate you.
And to everybody who has stoodbehind and supported us in this
podcasting journey.
Man, much love to you and toeveryone.

(58:54):
Have a beautiful rest of yourweek, shoot us a tweet, send us
some love, man, and be withStevie as he and his lovely wife
Summer are watching their girlsgrow up too fast.
And to the OG man Cave boys, that being Harbaugh Hards, big
Mike and the coach, what do wetell them?

(59:15):
Stevie Lee?

Speaker 6 (59:17):
We out.

Speaker 1 (59:19):
You see the drip and I'm fitted up, I'm in my car in
a Gideon I said get out.
