Speaker 1 (00:30):
The Hi, I'm Stevie Lee, former defensive tackle for
the University of Texas.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
And I'm Clyde Hargrove.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
I'm a roofer.
I also saw action in 52 gamesand I fixed a lot of roofs.
I also won a Rose Bowl andnever lost to A&M, and I fixed a
lot of roofs, right.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Stevie, oh right, right, I'm sorry I zoned out a
little bit.
So are you going to say thething about Hargrove roofing?

Speaker 4 (01:28):
Hargrove roofing.
You know who's on your roof.
Is this even going to work as acommercial?
Is this even going to work as acommercial?

Speaker 5 (01:31):
But there's fathers and mothers, sisters and
brothers, of all those Texasangels dancing in the sky.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Let me tell you this is not about politics.
One thing about a Texan we'regoing to pick up and we're going
to help our neighbors.
We don't give a damn who theyvoted for in this time of need
you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
I'm going to get my heart out there to Texas.
Y'all are going to be all right, Just keep going.
Hope y'all get all the helpy'all need and everything we
don't need.
No time, no politics, no shitlike that.
Just get your help.
Get what you need, man help mewith the need man.

Speaker 5 (02:03):
You know this thing will be alright, stevie, I know
we're sports-centric and I knowmy previous episode on let's
Talk About it a week ago wasabout this.
I was just appalled, sickened, pissed off at so many people
politicizing this and making ita race issue to finger-pointing

(02:25):
and all that it could, because Ithink everyone, including
myself and you we texted eachother, talked it hurts, and
people just enjoying a holidayweekend and you see this, we're
still trying to find people.
In fact, over 170 victims, people have yet to be found, 170

(02:49):
individuals we don't know ifthey're alive across central
texas, but we do know 129 deaths.
I mean, this is somethingthat's unfathomable, but I,
right now, as we try to helpgain closure for all these
families and try to lift thoseup, as well as all the great

(03:11):
stories that were told by themedia of heroes and all the
volunteers as well, yeah, Ithink you're right, Nick.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
This is time to reflect on recovery and
rebuilding and things like that, and I don't want to talk about
what and why and how it happened.
What we do know, what we knowthe facts to be, is something
happened and a community needsbigger community to get back

(03:42):
together Right, so let's focuson that part.
Community needs biggercommunity to get back together
right, so let's focus on thatpart.
There actually do need to besome accountability somewhere,
because there are some youngkids that lost their lives due
to whatever it may be, and thoseparents want closure and

(04:03):
answers.
So I would love for them tohave their answers and things
that they need to be answered, questions that they have that
needs to be answered from them.
But right now, right now, inthe next few months, it's
recovery and rebuilding, and soit's a tough, tough situation

(04:25):
situation, but let's cometogether and figure this thing
out together, um, and rebuild, yeah yeah, well, I'm sean clinch
.

Speaker 5 (04:34):
That is stevie lee.
We uh are co host together on,uh, the past rush with stevie
lee, uh, all part of storiesinside the man cape.
Just a small graphic here.
I think there's so many heroes, the first responders.
There are so many people whohave just stepped up from

(04:56):
volunteers to people who may nothave the financial resources,
have found a way I've seen itfirsthand found a way to
contribute because of this righthere, loving, caring Texans,
loving Texans from left to right.
Heb no doubt, man, heb is amuch better organization than
FEMA.
They can run the state, theycan run the country as far as

(05:17):
emergency management.
And in the middle, a lot ofgreen bows, including my
neighborhood, to honor thoseyoung ladies and counselors and
anyone associated with Mysticwho lost their lives in the
volatile but beautiful GuadalupeRiver, which all of us have

(05:38):
spent time on.
I grew up on that river, northof the Canyon Lake area, to
south in the New Braunfels andGreen.
We grew up on that river andComanow and all those other ones
, the Frio Llano rivers.
And then on the right, anexample of individuals who have

(05:59):
the fame and fortune or whatnot, whatever you want to call them,
individuals like us who justhave a big heart.
I mean, look at this JalenHurts, former OU, former Alabama
and Philadelphia Eaglesquarterback.
Look what he did.
He's donating to help pay forfunerals.
What a beautiful act ofhumanity.

(06:22):
And Pat Mahomes has done thesame, and all the professional
organizations in the state ofTexas have really come forward,
and universities andorganizations.
Stevie, there are so manyorganizations just in the Austin
Texas area alone who havecontributed in some form or

(06:43):
fashion that I was not aware ofin restaurants.
But to your point, we're only aweek out after this, but it
seems like a month.

Speaker 6 (06:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (06:57):
I've volunteered a little bit, but they organized
efforts that I wanted to be apart of.
I wanted to help the folks ofSandy Creek.
I just got mixed communication.
I'm not going to reveal thegroups I was supposed to be with
for that area until we actuallywork together.
It has nothing to do with thegroups, it was just a
mismanagement of communication.

(07:19):
Beginning with the Travis Countyofficials, stevie, I will tell
you that I think Travis Countydropped the ball locally for
those folks in Sandy Creek andthen, to your point, for the
folks in Kerr County.
It's plain and simple, oneresolution there Flood warning

(07:39):
systems have to be in place, flood prone area and our prayers
and thoughts and thoughts and Iknow it's well said so many
times, but we cannot give enoughpraise and positivity to each
of these families, even the oneswho are still with us.
The trauma that these peoplewent through to survive and

(08:01):
shout out to people like you, stevie, with big hearts, and
your family is shout out to allthe Austin, texas and the great
state of Texas and folks fromMexico, louisiana, all over the
country who have come here toour neck of the woods Flash
Flood Alley Hill Country to helpfellow our Texans.
It's beautiful, stevie.

(08:22):
Yeah, it really is and shout outto the Hargrove family.
They have been very theircommunication on this and
supporting Texas as well.
Right, yes, I've seen it.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Yeah, absolutely, man Shout out to the Hargrove
family, for sure.

Speaker 5 (08:40):
And God.
If you need a roof during this, this time frame, you know who
to go to right yeah absolutelyhard, grow roofing.
Well, you, you do.
And I will say um again.
We're going to be talking aboutthis for a long time.
Everybody who's watching, butwe deeply feel badly.

(09:04):
We feel like what can we do?
What can we do to help?
Because I am looking for otheropportunities to help clean and
help recover, search whatnot.
It's out there.
It's really.
It's just a unique experience.
I did it for Hurricane Harveyin Rockport Wimberley.

(09:25):
I've got a very small taste ofthis and it's just different for
this event.
God, my heart hurts.
And the devastation is is this.
I can't begin to explain it,stevie, but thanks for people
like you and thanks for theyouth I know some of you the
viewers, listeners have got whohave been volunteering and it's

(09:47):
a beautiful thing to see, stevie.
Let's lift some people up,because that's what we do best.
Episode 470, man we're going tobe talking about a lot and
mainly feel-good stuff.
You ready, I'm ready.

Speaker 6 (10:01):
Let's ride baby.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
Why did you decide to go football?
Maybe not basketball or anothersport?
Yeah, you know, um, growing upit was always basketball.
I wanted to go play basketball.
I do like that's what I was seton.
Um, you know, as, like timewent on, kobe kind of came
around and he couldn't reallyget in gyms anymore and I
started like shifting my focusto football really and, um, and
I kind of figured out like Icould use that as my own like
navigating tool to like kind ofcreate my own name and my own

(10:49):
kind of legacy and not kind ofbe in his shadow in a sense,
because you know, like you said,he played in the NBA for a
really long time.
So I kind of felt like it was agreat opportunity for me and I
really loved it.
So COVID year is kind of when Imade the choice that I was
going to pick football kind ofover basketball.

Speaker 5 (11:06):
How about that D'Abel ?
He's been committed for a whilenow.
Raj Abel, his dad, who had along NBA career.
So hearing from him, obviouslya very intelligent young man I'm
not saying that because hechose Texas, but very's a very
intelligent human being yourthoughts on him navigating

(11:27):
himself and, like you know whatI probably have a future in
whatever sport, but hearing himgiving his story and maybe some
other things you may havelearned about him.
What's your thoughts on DiaBell?

Speaker 1 (11:43):
Well, dia, the cool thing about it, if you're a
quarterback in high school, youwant to go to the best coach
that's going to develop you.
He made a really good, sounddecision.
You know we got a bigquarterback room right now.
But you know, if he's confidentin himself, confident in taking

(12:06):
a year to learn and taking ayear and maybe take another year
to hopefully take another yearto work into a rotation and then
take the rings the next yearafter that, it'll be good for
him.
Man, I like that.
We have a choice ofquarterbacks that Sark can

(12:26):
develop and figure out which oneis the best for our program.
So I'm happy for the kid Greatchoice because it's Texas.
But it's him choosing, having achoice of doing basketball or
football and him choosingfootball and then choosing the

(12:48):
best program or, for him, thebest program that can put him in
the right position to be evenmore successful.

Speaker 5 (12:55):
That's well stated.
You know, the Texas quarterbackroom is it wasn't long ago that
the quarterback room was not asstacked not even close.
I mean, I do think therebuilding process of the
quarterback room dates back toShane Boucher and then Sam
Ellinger, but right now, headinginto this season, Arch Manning,
Trey Owens, very talentedMatthew Caldwell.

(13:19):
The portal got transferred fromTroy in Alabama, KJ Lacey Jr,
much heralded high school Q Troyin Alabama.
Kj Lacey Jr, Munch Herald atHigh School QB from Alabama and
then a preferred walk-on in LukeDunham.
So, you've got a stacked roomand Arch Manning, as so many
people continue to talk about, all I can say is, if you can get

(13:40):
these gentlemen to stay, twoyears to wait their turn, there
is that, but it's hard thesedays to do that.
Years to wait their turn?
There is that, but it's hardthese days to do that, there's
no doubt.
What is it what you would tella guy, if other than what sark
and and aj mill we?
What do you tell these kids whyyou should stay and wait that

(14:01):
long with the way things are now?

Speaker 1 (14:06):
I don't know, man, it's hard.
So you know there's only oneQB1 at the University of Texas
and when you're competing you'regoing to compete and compete,
compete.
Try to get that QB1 spot andmaybe QB2.
Permission to speak freely Ifyou're not QB one or two, then

(14:31):
you've got some really goodtutelage under SART's program.
Go and make some money atanother school and transfer.
Am I allowed to say that?
Yes, who's involved?
Am I allowed to say that?
Yes, who's involved?
Yeah, so some of these kids'plan, I think, is their plan is

(14:53):
to, yeah, try to make QB one, qbtwo.
But if it doesn't work out foryou, some of these schools are
going to drop a bag in your lapjust to come in and be on their
team, a bag in your lap just tocome and be on their team, and
so some of these kids may belooking at the long term, long
run.
I mean, there's no reason thatwe need six quarterbacks in the
quarterback room at theUniversity of Texas.

(15:13):
High-level quarterbacks too,yeah, high-level quarterbacks, I
agree.
So there's some deeper thinkingthere.
To all, right, I'm going to behere.
What's the best coach in thecountry to learn under as a QB?
Because everyone that has eyesunderstand that we went to the

(15:36):
college football playoffs lastyear with a okay quarterback,
twice.
He was elite, sean, he was good.
He ran the playbook like he wassupposed to run the playbook,
but if you needed to make a playoff of his arm or legs or

(15:59):
anything like that, it wasn'tgoing to happen.

Speaker 5 (16:06):
He wasn't a dead duck or a sitting duck, I'm not
saying that.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
I'm not saying that we made a okay quarterback look
great.
It's the system.
It's the system.
If you feel like you're a goodquarterback, you need a good
system to be in.
Our quarterback last two yearswas a good system to be in.
Right, our quarterback lastyear, last two years, was a good
quarterback and a great system.

(16:31):
I mean, I'm not saying anythingoff the wall y'all.
Come on, he never finished awhole season.
He was always injured.
Right, the three years that heplayed he never finished an
entire season.
These are facts.
When we look at the draft, hewas the last QB taken.

(16:51):
Look at the QBs that were takenbefore him.
People put their research intothis.
He did great things for theUniversity of Texas.
We went to two semifinalsback-to-back years under this
kid Great.
Thank you so much for runningthe system.

Speaker 5 (17:09):
His name is Quinn Ewers.
You're like Tom Herman with thekicker's name.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
I was just trying to get people to understand that
they know who they're talkingabout.
Right, right, right, you know.
So, yes, that's his name, butyou know he's a great kid, great
guy.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
Handled the system very, very well, but he is a
system quarterback.
Okay, that's fair.

Speaker 5 (17:40):
And you know what.
It's your opinion too, andthere's nothing wrong with that.
Own it.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
I don't care what anybody says Hell.

Speaker 5 (17:48):
most people will agree with you.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
Yeah.
And so these kids coming out ofhigh school transferring in it
was like yours did all of thatunder Sark's system.
They see it, sark got somethinggoing on over there, yep.
And then if you look at Sark'srecord, he's doing very well
with running backs and receiversI'm sorry and QBs.

(18:12):
He does very well in his trackrecord with running backs and
QBs.

Speaker 5 (18:17):
Well, before we continue this conversation, be
sure to follow us on socialmedia.
All of our platforms.
They're all listed right there.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
And don't send me no hate mail.

Speaker 5 (18:26):
Don't send no hate mail.
Stevie's changing his number onthe do not call list
immediately and you cansubscribe to our YouTube page.
You can comment there as welland you subscribe to it for free
.
That's the beauty of it, hey.
So to continue this, as Texasis building its class of 2026,

(18:47):
we're in the month of July theycan sign in December, obviously
the first signing period.
The thing is right now youreally can't judge a class in
its entirety, as it really willbe when it comes together.
But so far, after therecruiting classes, texas has

(19:08):
enjoyed the last few years.
They've all been top five, definitely the top ten.
They got a recent recruit fromnumber 14 ranked prospect in the
country, a cornerback defensiveback from North Carolina,
samari Matthews.
It's a big addition.

(19:29):
Texas DBU and LSU will arguewith Texas over that, but I
would be remiss not to point outthe recruiting that kids who
had decided to commit elsewhere, and this happens every year.
But it just seems where we areright now to me.
I'm smart enough to know therewill be some big additions to

(19:53):
this class, either by portaltransfers or portal transfers or
other high school kids.
Now, keep in mind the portalcuts down on the number of high
school kids that Now, keep inmind, the portal cuts down on
the number of high school kidsthat programs like Texas will
sign.
But these are the big namesthat Texas has right now.

(20:13):
As we all know, when the windchanges direction, kids will
decommit, commit elsewhere.
But right now these are bignames that Texas is not getting.
As of right now, these will notbe Longhorns as of today.
Jamarian Carlton, a defensive oredge rusher, whatever you want
to call him.
Linebacker.

(20:34):
Braden Rouse, the offensivelineman tackle.
Felix Ojo, who decided to go toTexas Tech because they dropped
a bag.
It was Texas and Ohio State andall of a sudden, texas Tech
comes in.
Hey, shout out to Tech andtheir NIL, including their
revenue sharing, whicheveryone's going to have a

(20:56):
salary cap now, as of July 2nd.
And then the linebacker, xavierGriffin, and two UT legacies
Caden Finley, one of JermichaelFinley's sons, great kid, great
talent, going to Notre Dame.
And then Jalen Lott His daddywas a great Longhorn, he's going

(21:17):
elsewhere.
Stevie, we talked about thisbefore this episode and we've
talked about it, not part ofother podcasts, just on the
phone.
You don't seem too concernedabout this.
I think there's a little bit ofconcern.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Nope, not at all.
Okay, Not at all.
Sark has been on the record intalking about if you're going to
come to the University of Texasfor the money, then this is not
the place for you.
Did you hear him say that?

Speaker 5 (21:48):
Oh, he's been very transparent and upfront and
direct about that for a while.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
So he's putting his money where his mouth is.
These kids, like the kid that'sgoing up to Texas Tech.
He clearly made that decisionbecause of the money.
Clearly, if you're comingcoming to the university of
texas, you're coming to aprogram with, with tradition, a

(22:15):
winning tradition, um and and umlegacy.
Right there you'll see a bunchof big dudes around Austin.
They play football at theUniversity of Texas.

Speaker 5 (22:30):
There's some small former Longhorns.
There's a couple of small guyskickers.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
Defensive backs, yeah , but on average those guys are
big too, though, but it's.
It's not coming to theUniversity of Texas just to get
a bag man.
He made that clear.
Some of these kids are justtaking the money over the actual

(22:57):
school, and that's okay.
Now notice that Sark said kidscoming out of high school.
If you're coming here for thebag, you're coming for the wrong
reason.
Now go make your money or go doyour thing somewhere else.
Yes, we're still watching, because this transfer portal is

(23:19):
huge.

Speaker 5 (23:20):
Yes, it is.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
Yeah, so you can go somewhere in a year or two and
say you're doing very, very well, put your name in the transfer
portal.
Then I think the University ofTexas will start looking like,
okay, we want this guy out ofthe portal.
How much can we give them?
You know, I think Sark is goingto recruit and he may be a

(23:47):
little bit ahead of his time.
He's going to put more focus inrecruiting out of the portal
than he is out of high school.

Speaker 5 (23:56):
Well, I don't have a problem with that.
The Texas High School CoachesAssociation doesn't like that.
It is what it is though it iswhat it is.

Speaker 1 (24:07):
People understand it now because it's where we are
now you can go get kids out ofhigh school that's unproven in
the college level, or you can goget kids that are proving
themselves, that entered theportal, and you can get them
into your program True.
All of it's a gamble, eitherway it is a gamble, but I think

(24:31):
it's a pretty forward-thinkingtype gamble.

Speaker 5 (24:36):
Well, you have to.
It's another form.
It is basically the.
It's a high school amateur.
That level of college footballis no longer amateur, it's
developmental and it's a form ofincome.

(24:57):
Yeah, can be that and you'llagree with me on this.
I think it's also what is thecollege experience supposed to
be for?
Education and find yourself, find your niche and learn how to
create opportunities.
This is for all college kids, but college athletes now you

(25:20):
learn how to createopportunities, revenue streams,
income, because most of them arenot going to play the NFL,
correct, so they're creatingtheir brand.
If you handle it right, youplay at a place like Texas.
You should be set as I mean.

(25:42):
There's a chance you can getthat degree and you're coming
out of there making 80 grandminimum.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (25:47):
Somehow, some way.

Speaker 1 (25:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (25:49):
So preseason conference media days have
already started.
Stevie Big 12 was last week andArizona State who was picked to
finish, I think last year, something like that.

Speaker 6 (26:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (26:05):
Who picked to win it all this year and Texas fans
know all about Arizona State.
That's followed by Kansas Stateand Texas Tech, and Baylor tied
for third Again.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
Where's Colorado in there?

Speaker 5 (26:21):
Colorado, where are they at?
Let me scroll down in my littlenotes here.
They got TCU at seven.
Kansas will be unveiling, Ithink, their new football
stadium.
I think this year I'm wrong BYUand Colorado.
Nine and ten, ooh, ooh, andthen dead last Arizona.

Speaker 1 (26:43):
That's a little low for BYU man.
Those corn-fed boys up therecan play some football actually.

Speaker 5 (26:49):
Those Mormons have been proven to play football and
they do well in their NIL.
But maybe this revenue sure isgoing to change a lot of things.
Yeah.
It's going to change a lot ofthings Again.
Preseason polls I hate them all.
Yeah.
In my 16 years in which I had aballot to vote in the media

(27:12):
side, I turned it in three timesBecause I just hate preseason
polls.
Yeah, because rarely do theyever are accurate, and it's just
my opinion.
Yeah.
And my opinion, yeah, and myopinion only matters on things

(27:32):
like this, yeah.
And even then, it doesn'tmatter to maybe 1% of the people
.
Yeah, so SEC media days is thisweek, big 12 media days last
week and SEC media days inAtlanta.
Is there anything that excitesyou about this, or maybe what

(27:53):
you're hoping to see or hear?

Speaker 1 (27:57):
I like to hear the kids talk Right Media day.
So I want to see Manningactually have some conversations
with some media people.
You know he's kind of hittinghere in Austin.
He's not in front of the TV alot or in front of a camera, but
he has to be for SEC Media Day.

(28:19):
So I'm looking forward tohearing what he has to say and I
always get a feel of thementality of the team, who they
choose to go to Media Day, and Ialways get a feel of the
mentality of the team, who theychoose to go to media day right.
So I want to hear the defenseor whoever they choose for
defensive player to go up thereand talk.
That mentality of thatdefensive player kind of tells

(28:40):
me how the whole defense isgoing to work out this year.
That's true.
Yeah, that's true.
That's what I'm looking forwardto.

Speaker 5 (28:46):
I always enjoyed media days because all those
years covering Big 12, I alwayshad a list of five, six stories
that are nothing about wins andlosses, nothing about oh, I've
got 25 players coming back whostarted, we've got 18 returning

(29:06):
starters here.
I didn't care about any of that.
Nobody at home any of that.
Yeah, nobody at home caresabout that.
I always did stuff like man.
Cliff Kingsbury was the bestdress, so was Pat Mahomes and
Bill Snyder's guys.
They borderline wore athree-piece suit Everyone's
wearing, like UT and OU boys arewearing a nice knit shirt and

(29:30):
slacks.
And then, one year before theymoved to Frisco for it man, the
Mary Kay Cosmetic Girls hadtheir big convention on the
floor below Big 12 Media Day.
So I did a story on the MaryKay Cosmetic Ladies and Big 12
football and how that emerged.
That's funny.
It's freaking hilarious.
And then Bob Stoops' wife Carol.

(29:52):
She elevated Mary Kay.
She even got a pink Cadillac.

Speaker 3 (29:57):
There you go and.

Speaker 5 (29:58):
Bob Stoops talked about the only thing we had to
pay for our registration tag andlicense.
That's it.
I wish.
I could have seen Bob Stoopsdriving that pink Caddy.
Yeah so what came out of Big 12media days.
Mike Gundy admitted I don'tknow if the term hard-headed is

(30:19):
right, but this January it washis first class in which they
shelled out some money.
Stevie, I've been waiting.
I can't wait for you to hearthis soundbite from Gundy and he
threw himself under the tableunder the bus.
He's blaming himself because, you know, osu took a major step
back this past season.

Speaker 6 (30:40):
So, the truth be known, this portal class from
January is the first class thatwe ever bought.
We had not bought portal goods.
Wow, that hurt us.
Yeah, hurt us the last year orso from a depth standpoint.
And that was nobody's fault, that's not the administration's

(31:01):
fault, not the donors'.
That was really kind of myfault, because what I had done
was taken money that had beenraised through donations and
spread it amongst the troops.

Speaker 5 (31:12):
The troops, meaning his current roster.
What's your thoughts on him now, how he's kind of changed his
tune about this whole NIL,because I think that not
embracing it, and if T-BoomPickens was still alive, can you
imagine how much more moneywould be funneled in?
Or what's your opinion on him?

Speaker 1 (31:32):
now that whole roster would have been different if
T-Booms Pickens was still around.

Speaker 5 (31:35):
Do you think this is him being genuine?
Hey, I have to.
Or is it pressure from others?
Oh, it's 100% pressure, 100%pressure.

Speaker 1 (31:49):
He had to say that.
He had to say that.
But also it is on him for notpushing to get players like
everyone else was gettingplayers, I mean.
And it's a good thing that hewas paying his current roster
with the money that came in.
That's fine.
But you got to innovate or die.

(32:14):
You know, uh and um and grow.
So he saw the writing on thewall.
He, he tried it one way andthey did not do well, so he has
to try out a different hold upwith them yeah, exactly so it
really hereally did.
He has to make a change and Iknow it came down from the top.

(32:36):
It's all cute saying that it'sno one else's fault and things
like that, but we know it washis fault.
Mike has always had a bad tastein my mouth just because the
way he moved around he was allgung-ho about not paying players

(32:59):
.
Well, these kids are doing alot for you and you get paid, so
why can't they?
Anyway, I'm glad that he'scoming around to it.
Best of luck to him.
But that ship may have alreadysailed.
It's going to take a couple ofyears to get this back on track.

Speaker 5 (33:18):
Yeah, it's going to be hard to be overnight success.
Even the Big 12 is still atough league.
No question Real quick.
The name, image and likenessbig time in EA.
Sports.
Look at his avatar that theymade for him.

Speaker 6 (33:38):
Yeah, that for sure says I have a full head of hair.
That's not.

Speaker 3 (33:43):
Who is that?

Speaker 6 (33:45):
And they got me all like muscled up.
I'm not that muscled up.

Speaker 3 (33:49):
You got the golden studies.

Speaker 6 (33:51):
Yeah, that's awesome.
Like a pro, wait for my highschool buddies to do that.
Yeah, that's awesome.
Wait for my high school buddiesto come back.
They'll be lighting me up.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
That did not look like him at all.

Speaker 5 (34:07):
It looked like he had been up on a bender with
cocaine for about a week andjust threw on a pole.
Not that I know what that'slike, I'm just saying.
I have no idea, I just I heardstories.

Speaker 1 (34:18):
Oh, okay, I heard how you're from.
Oklahoma.
No shoot, I'm from here, bro, Iknow you are, but you spent
some time up there, oh.

Speaker 5 (34:26):
I spent a lot of time up there, six years to be exact
.

Speaker 6 (34:30):
Yep, yep, yep.

Speaker 5 (34:41):
All right, stevie, quick thoughts.
We thought it, it happened.
Texas State's going to the newPac-12 founding.
Well, they're OGs, obviously.
Washington State, oregon Stateand you've got Boise State in it
and Colorado State.
Texas State's leaving the bigsunbelt in 2026.

(35:04):
They got the deal done.
They're going to pay the exitfee.
Quickly.
Your thoughts on this?
It's not the same, but how doyou think?
I mean it feels like they'regoing to a similar league, but
there will be more revenue.
I believe a lot more.
It's a question.

(35:24):
It's just college football.
Now you don't have USC, ucla, you don't have Washington, you
don't have Oregon, you don'thave Arizona Arizona State.
Have Oregon, you don't haveArizona Arizona State.
But is there enough cachet inthat league?
Not only that, we'll keep themtogether as a power five and
what do you think?
How this benefits Texas State?

Speaker 1 (35:46):
It benefits Texas State.
You get some West Coast eyeswhen you go out there to play
and when those West Coast teamscome in to play here in Texas, I
think Texas State is winningmore than the Pac-12 in this
deal.
They'll get a lot more revenue.

(36:06):
But I think you know when I wasin school, texas State or
Southwest Texas State back thenwas just a little school down in
.
San.

Speaker 5 (36:19):
Marcos.

Speaker 1 (36:21):
The growth has been phenomenal of that university
and program.
So this is a big step for themin the Pac-12.
Now, man and us old heads thatremember the Pac-12, you know it
, kind of have that littlenostalgia with it that Texas
State is going to the Pac-12.
It is not the same Pac-12 thatwe remember of yesteryear, but

(36:47):
it's still the Pac-12.
So I think it's a good thingfor Texas State and getting West
Coast kids to try to commit toTexas State.
You get just more eyes from theWest Coast.

Speaker 5 (37:00):
That's fair.
We're going to talk about allthat.
It's going to be a part of ourbig show Year two of it Kicking
things off, Our special live atSteve and I.
We found a date.
I believe that's a Thursdayright August 14th.
I've already talked to theBoulevard Bar and Grill August
14th.
We haven't figured out if we'regoing to do it at 7 or 7.30,

(37:23):
probably 7 because we went alittle long last year.
It's going to be 90 minutes isour target.
It's going to be college highschool pro special guests and
special recorded interviews.
It was fun, man, and I rememberwe got Coach Looper right after

(37:43):
practice at the University ofMissouri was in and speaking of
Texas State.
We're going to have somepresents from them, but it's
going to be.
It's either going to be inperson recorded and Stevie and I
will be interviewing people andhaving fun and get our take
because this college footballlandscape keeps changing and

(38:05):
that is fun, and we'll havespecials at Boulevard.
I mean your take on going backto the Bully this year for this.

Speaker 1 (38:13):
It's going to be fun, man.
Last year was a lot of fun.
We actually had some other guysthere and pulled them in for
interviews, so that was fun lastyear.
I like going on location, man.
I can get some food, a coupledrinks and we can jump online
together.

Speaker 5 (38:31):
That's right, and I'm going to try to talk to the
bully.
Maybe they'll offer somehydrating specials.
We'll figure it out.
We'll figure it out.
Well, just to get you guys, because the bully is one of
those old school Austinoriginals off of Far West
Boulevard, be sure to like, follow each of our social media
and we'll have all the detailsfor that.

(38:52):
You can see Stevie and I andsome former Longhorns and some
former people that you'llrecognize.
Let's all make it a party.
Have some fun.
Y'all can rag on us while we'retrying to conduct business on
camera.
Have some fun with it.
Hey, this is becoming a trend, stevie, high school seniors
foregoing their senior year.
You know, quinn Ewers did it,jaden Blue did it.

(39:14):
And now I mean this doesn'tsurprise me as I'm trying to
pull in a graphic for you andhold on, this is so new.
Okay, here we go.
No new, okay, here we go.
This is why is it not working?

(39:35):
Here we go.
All right, three, two and one.
This is by no means criticism, but our guy, michael Adams, who
runs the Austin Sports Journal, submitted this article Dripping
Springs outside hitter CrystalWilburn.
You know, dripping Springs is astate power in high school
volleyball.
They're really good at almosteverything they do in dripping

(39:58):
it's something in the water andthey're just as competitive as
Westlake Lake, travis and thosegood, all those programs across
state.
But their volleyball program isphenomenal.
She's foregoing her senior yearin high school to enroll at SMU
.
You have volleyball girls.
I know what the benefit is froman athletic point of view, but

(40:23):
do you see this continuing togrow, this trend, or is it just
a hit or miss?
It just depends on thesituation with the athlete.

Speaker 1 (40:33):
It depends on the situation.
I think, when you actually wantto break down your earning
potential, you have another yearof earning or you can start
early on your earning year.
So, now that college playerscan get paid and they're getting
revenue sharing, am I going toplay in high school for free?

(40:56):
Or or do, and if I have thegrades that I can go on and get
paid to play?
You know, the whole adage isyou stay in school so you can
get a good job, right, right.
Well, now I can get a good jobwhile I'm in school.

(41:23):
And so she's saying am I goingto play here for free or am I
going to go on to college andget some revenue?
And I don't necessarily lovethis, but because there's also
something to be said to finishout your senior year in high
school Right, you know, but Ifinished out half of my senior
year.
You know I enrolled in collegein January, so Am I?

(41:44):
What am I doing?
What, what, what.
What is the ultimate goal here?
What, what, what is theultimate goal here?
And I think that she felt thather ultimate goal was to um,
maximize my earning potentialand and if I could do it, just
do it.
And she did.
So I don't fault her becauseyou know father time is always

(42:11):
undefeated right, oh, always.
And so if you're gonna add awhole nother year to your
earnings potential, then youhave to go and do that.

Speaker 5 (42:17):
Yeah, I agree with you, man, it's a business
decision.
All right, Stevie, real quick, before we go to break, and
segment two is very short.
Today you have a quick man cavestory from the Stevie Lee.

(42:39):
It could be from your daysplaying at Texas, Evangel and
Shreveport, or something family, something maybe you experienced
.
That will just as comical nowas it was when it happened.

Speaker 1 (42:50):
I remember one thing that I remember back in college.
Man, we lost a game on the roadsomewhere and I can't remember
where it was, but it was a tough, hard-fought game and we were
coming back and we just didn'tget it done.
We get into the locker room andCoach Brown saw the stain on
our faces and said guys, wedidn't lose that game, we just

(43:14):
ran out of time.
I love the way you fought, wejust ran out of time.
Well, me and my other teammateslooked around like what?
And we said and then our eyes,as we looked into each other's
eyes, was like what is hetalking about?
Man, we just lost that damn game.
We didn't run out of time.
We went on the field knowinghow much time was going to be on

(43:35):
the clock.
We didn't run out of time, wejust lost that game.
Man, I don't know what happened, you know.
So sometimes coaching speak canhelp you and get you up and
things like that.
But that coach speak, rightthere was.
We ran out of time.
I was like hell, no, we justlost the game coach.

Speaker 5 (43:54):
Oh my God, yeah, that's tough.
Yeah but it was hilariousbecause we all talked about it.

Speaker 1 (44:01):
We still talk about that today.
Ran out of time.
No coach, we lost that game.
Oh brother.

Speaker 5 (44:13):
We're going to run out of time if we don't go to
break.
You know what I mean Because, fyi, stevie and I try to target
these at about 45 minutes.
One day we're going to masterit to where it's 30 when we
don't have guests.
But our goal, our heart out, isif we're approaching an hour,
we got to get out because we'reboring you.
We don't want to lose you as aviewer.

(44:34):
We'll see on the other side, after we hear from hargrove and
stevie's role in acting, andthere may be a bald-headed short
fella in there too.
We'll see another spot here athargrove roofing.

Speaker 2 (44:45):
Uh, we try to think outside the box to kind of get
the creative juices flowing.
So I brought in my friendstevie lee, former defensive
tackle for the Texas Longhorns.
He's going to help the teamstrategize, really motivate them
.
Light a fire.

Speaker 1 (44:58):
This guy's going to block down.
This guy's going to block down.
You put your butt into theguard and that way my Mike
Linebacker gets free to do what.

Speaker 2 (45:08):
Not only are they going to learn a thing or two,
but they're going to also leavewith a great attitude and a
bunch of smiles on their faces.

Speaker 3 (45:15):
I'm sorry.
What does this have to do withroofing exactly?
Get out Right now.
I said get out.

Speaker 2 (45:26):
For me, that's what it's all about.
It's just having fun making ouremployees have a great time.
Hargrove Roofing Know who's onyour roof.

Speaker 6 (45:47):
Got bird shit on my head.
Come on y'all.

Speaker 1 (45:48):
You got to do better Come clean me up, man I need to
fade.
Come on, man, why I got birdshit on my head, man, come
on'all we got to do better.
Come clean me up, man I need tofade.
Come on, man, why I got birdshit on my head, man Come on man
, we got to do better than that.
Come on, it's UT baby.

Speaker 5 (46:04):
So, man, that thing had months and months of some
grackle bird shit compiling onhis dome.
Hey, that's Vince being Vince.

Speaker 1 (46:16):
Yeah, man, we need to put a tent over it or something
.
Man, get somebody out there tohold an umbrella over his head.

Speaker 5 (46:24):
We need some dish soap, get a bottle of Dawn, get
some hot little brush and getsome hot water.
Let's clean that freaking birdfeces off of vince's head man
yeah, no question all right, stevie lee.
This is uh always beneficial tome.

(46:45):
Everyone watching, listening.
Is there an atx pro tip thatyou would recommend to find
American man Cave viewers, listeners, to visit, sample,
dine or experience?

Speaker 1 (46:58):
Yes, good, I've been doing a lot of business in East
Austin so I'm there a lot duringthe day and I have been
frequenting Murray's Tavern onthe east side.
I have not been, I'm sorry.

Speaker 5 (47:17):
I have not been yet.

Speaker 1 (47:18):
Yeah, murray's Tavern on the east side.
Good food and in the summertime.
You know, old Austin was knownfor its cold, dark bars.
In the summertime You're out inthe heat all day, a lot of
workers that's doing manuallabor outside.
They will go and find a cold, dark bar to drink the day away,

(47:41):
drink the work day away.
Murray's Tavern has that feelto me, man.
It's a cold, dark bar, slashrestaurant.
They have a really good primerib Steak frits on their menu.
They have a nice roast beefsandwich on their menu.
It's a good little spot, man.

(48:03):
No windows that you can see inor out, but it's literally like
a cold, dark bar.
Tv's everywhere that you canwatch.
It's really cool, I like thatbar.
Tv's everywhere that you canwatch and it's really cool, I
like that spot.
So you know, get out there, check out Murray's Tavern.
Hopefully they see this andcome up with a few of my meals.

Speaker 5 (48:22):
Yeah, at least you're not giving me a cocktail.
I'll tag them if you give me acocktail.

Speaker 1 (48:27):
Exactly, and they have cocktails there.
Cocktails there.
It's just a cool little spot inEast Austin to drink or have an
early dinner or late lunchright at the end of your workday
and head home, especially ifthere's some sports on TV.

(48:49):
It's a cool little spot.

Speaker 5 (48:50):
Eastside's always got a good vibe.
I'll add to this it's beenaround a long time or a while If
you're speaking of dark, coldplaces, if you're going south on
Burnett Road and you know howit ends at 45th Street, burnett
Road does right.
Yeah.

(49:12):
Keep going straight.
It turns into Medical Parkway.
Go about a half a mile.
On your right there's a placecalled the Drop House
D-R-A-U-G-H-T.
All these Beers on tap.
It's very dark.
It smells like a Fraternityhouse in college, but it's from

(49:33):
all the beer.
Yeah, and they have beer fromaround the world.

Speaker 6 (49:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (49:39):
Then they have a little area in the parking lot
where they fenced off DroughtHouse and that's where you and I
need to meet, or I'll meet youat Murray's Hell.
I'll Uber TikTok in the mancave.
But this is a good example of ayoung girl.
Check out her camera presenceand I think correct me if I'm

(49:59):
wrong this girl's crushing a 3-6Mafia song on a mic at a
Tex-Mex place.
This girl deserves a standingovation.
I wish I had her karaoke skills, because this girl may have a
recording contract on thehorizon.
That's good.

Speaker 1 (50:53):
Dude, I love her.
Yes, Was that the verse thatshe was singing?
I think her name is Gangsta Boo.
That always did songs with 3-6Mafia.

Speaker 5 (51:06):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (51:06):
I think that's her name, but that was good.
That was good.
She's being raised right.
Yes, she's cultured right.
Yes, she's cultured, she'sbeing raised right.

Speaker 5 (51:19):
You see her mannerisms.
It's not forced, it's natural.
She was there like she justcame out of Sunday school and
picked up the mic.

Speaker 1 (51:30):
Yep absolutely.

Speaker 3 (51:32):
Hey, ben, tell me something good.

Speaker 5 (51:38):
Well, that wasn't good.
I cut off Stevie.
I apologize for that.
Brother, it's been hard.
It's just for people who so wehave a good viewership in
Louisiana, oklahoma, arkansasand, for some strange reason but
we love you for it in NewMexico and it looks like in the

(52:01):
Kansas City area those of youall, you can judge us by the
video you see in the media.
But this for us in Austin, thishurts.
I mean all of Texas is hurt.
This whole week has been a blurLoss of many lives, man, and so
we figure out a way.
Texas, somebody from Canadatold me earlier this week.

(52:22):
He says no, I think allAmericans help each other, but
Texans take it a different level, where Texans are a different
race, like it's very proud.
Can you tell me something?
Good, my brother?
But also, being from Louisiana,is there any truth to that
statement?
You think?

Speaker 1 (52:44):
Yes, there is some truth to that.
Texans are very, very proud oftheir state.
I'm now a Texan.
I'm an honorary.

Speaker 5 (52:53):
Texan, you've been here a long time.

Speaker 1 (52:55):
Long time.
I've been here longer than Iwas in Louisiana.
So Texans are very, very proudof the state.
We take care of each other.
Neighborly yes, a lot of timesnot.
What you know is who you knowin Texas, and we are resilient.

(53:19):
We've stood up in the face oftragedy and we've come out on
the other side better.
So that's my something.
Good too, man, texans are goingto come together.
We're going to stop all thisbickering and fighting and come
together and make things right.
Yes, evaluate what went wrongand try to fix that, but

(53:43):
together we're going to riseTogether.

Speaker 5 (53:46):
I love that I think there's going to be some demands
of the state-led governmentfrom the federal side.
You got to do something aboutthis because I think what's
going to be good to your pointis some really great things are
going to occur from floodwarning systems and in the end

(54:09):
people won't say you know, thiswas political.
No this is a uniting in in.
You know this was political.
No, this is uniting in a formof all that bickering from two
different political parties, theunification.
In some ways, I just wish Icould hug every neck of all the
surviving family members and allthe survivors and tell you this

(54:34):
is what being from Texas isabout.
We're gonna love on you andwe're gonna be here.
And I know it's easy for me tosay that because I have not had
the experiences yet on thecleanup of this event as I have
for, like Wimberley andHurricane Harvey.
I've only been to a couple ofthe sites and volunteering

(54:55):
wasn't fully organized, so I hadto go to plan B.
but that's going to change, andthat's another thing.
Man, If I get somethingorganized soon, I'll put
something up on our on oursocial media to try to get some
volunteers.
I love to have 11 other peoplejoin me.

Speaker 6 (55:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (55:12):
Just for us four to six hour project and they're
going to need it in all theseplaces for the next few months.
Hey, much love to you, muchlove to Stevie and his family
and everybody who followsstories inside the man Cave, and

Stevie Lee and to the city wheremy college alma mater is home,
nacogdoches, texas, and to mybeautiful hometown, austin,
texas, and to everybody acrossthe great state of Texas and
