Speaker 1 (00:09):
What does the name meaning of Aziz?

(01:03):
Thank you, ultimately not goodenough.
Obviously, you don't want tostart off the season 0-1.
They're a good team, but Ithought we beat ourselves a lot
and that starts with me, andI've got to play better for us
to win.
Can't wait until the secondhalf to kind of get things going
.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Hey, stevie Lee, we had our first installment of the
best three-way conversationever with Longhorn Legend for
Life, mike Adams, on Sunday andhe gave between the both of you.
There was a lot learned, Ithought.
And then I learned a lot moreabout this and my opinions kind
of changed in 24 hours.
That was Arch Manning's firstever start on a true road game

(01:50):
and probably perhaps, if not themost, but one of the top three
hostile environments in thecountry, and his first start
against a true, true, major, significant opponent.
He did play start againstMississippi State conference
game.
That's debatable.

(02:10):
I just think this was adifferent beast.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
It was different, big , big, like that's one of the
top five places to play incollege football that he went to
go play in for his first roadstart.
So it's going to be some nervesthere.
I like what he said.
It's on him and they got to dobetter.
So I like.
I like the press conferenceafterwards.

(02:37):
I don't think that this team isdone just just from the
rhetoric that's coming out ofthe camp.
I think that if we're going tolose, this is the one to lose
and we'll meet them again.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
That's right.
In the new CFP era you canafford one, maybe two of these.
But hey, hats off to Texas anda handful of other programs
playing marquee matchups earlyin the year and I think it's
great for the fan base, especially for those of us who
invest a lot of money and timeinto tickets.

(03:09):
It's great because not only doyou get in this part of the
country the SEC schedule, youget great brand name marquee
type of matchups to play at homeand on the road.
And you know you got Michiganand now Ohio State that are
going to be circling back andmaking that trip to Austin.
Hey, before we get started, wegot to give a shout out to our

(03:31):
family in Shreveport, louisiana, the home of the Stevie Lee, the
Hargrove family, supporters ofus, supporters of Longhorn
Athletics, and they do qualitywork that really makes your home
a home.
Take it away, stevie.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Or grow a roofing Know who's on your roof 100% you
will.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
It's not just some stranger hopping up there and
just collecting the check frominsurance or out of your pocket.
But, stevie, we're going todive deep, we're going to pick
up the pace.
Man, are you ready?

Speaker 4 (04:02):
Let's ride, let's ride, let's ride baby so the

(04:25):
expectations were out of controlon the outside, but I'd say
let's finish the book before wejudge it.
This is one chapter and we'vegot a long season to go play.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
A long book, according to these guys, and
what I guess everybody wouldlike a 16-chapter book.
I am Sean Clinch, stevie Lee,both the co-hosts of the Past
Rush with Stevie Lee.
Everybody, I think, needs totap the brakes a little bit,
correct.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
Mm-hmm, Yep, tap the brakes a little bit.
It wasn't what I predicted.
I'm wrong, I was wrong.
I was wrong.
It wasn't what I predicted, butit seems like it is.
They from what I'm hearing.
Like I said, from what I'mhearing out of the camp.
I like the attitude that we gotwork to do and let's go to work

(05:20):
.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
And there were some good things, but you know we
can't move forward.
We're going to call it like wesee it.
We're going to be objective andwe're going to have humor at
the same time, because the onlyway to get through a
disappointment for a fan base isthrough humor.
And I think Arch with hisupbringing, I think everybody
just because, mainly because ofhis family, there was a lot of

(05:43):
this going on on Twitter andsome of the things that I read
that everyone read, I just shookmy head at and the criticism is
off.
I mean, some of it's warranted, but this was hilarious.
His uncles, eli and Peyton theMannings probably Arch is

(06:08):
adopted that's pretty funny.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
but but those two did not come out with the type of
pressure that Arch has right onhim right now.
So you know, you know, give himsome grace, give him a couple
games, arch is going to beperfectly fine.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
The great thing about this podcast and any podcast.
These are just our thoughts, our points of view.
The Hook'em fan base, the TexasLonghorn, the lovely devoted
fan base Take a deep breath,Meditate.
There's three games coming up.
All winnable Should win bylarge margins.

(06:51):
And Stevie will tell you at anyposition, not just quarterback
the more reps you get whenyou're young, the better you get
.
The more looks you see, themore checkoff opportunities.
And shout out to everybody Bepatient, Take a deep breath,
Namaste, Meditate.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
It's going to be fine , you're going to be alright.

So, thank you and love thecomments.
And if I don't answer you orStevie doesn't, we will at some
point, because we all know weare career guys and in the case

(07:59):
of Stevie, he's got a family andI've got a big career.
So, this is episode 476.
And we love all of our sponsorsall six of them.
Now.
We recently onboarded NorthwestHills Liquor and Boulevard Bar
and Grill, but this one isdedicated mainly to Hargrove
Roofing.
Shout-out to Jimmy Saxton,shout-out to Honest Plumbing and

(08:21):
Air and everybody who supportsus, including D dirties.
All right, so we're about toput it to rest the season
opening 14 to 7 loss at OhioState.
I haven't seen a game thatclose in forever and that low
scoring.
That's mainly what I want toharp on a little bit.

(08:41):
But when you look at what Sarksaid, if you're not really sure
what all transpired, sark brokedown the type of defense if you
were not already aware, despitethe losses to the NFL and those
who graduated.
This is Sark summarizing whatArch had to view and see not

(09:04):
only great athletes, buttremendous, tremendous football
minds, six of which willprobably be playing on Sundays
in the NFL.

Speaker 4 (09:13):
They're able to hold coverages and whether it was a
two-deep shell rolling to onehigh one, high playing, two deep
, the variations of cover two.
They played against us.
They minimized the explosiveplays, they stayed on top and
really that's what we did.
You know we have Michael Taft, jelani McDonald.
Those guys are savvy playersand we were able to do kind of
both things there.
I thought Manny Muhammad had avery good game for us.

(09:34):
It's unfortunate, you know, theone kind of shot they took on
us.
You know they made the CarnellTate makes a heck of a catch for
a touchdown.
But I thought both secondariesare good, both fronts are good.
These are two good teams.
You know, I wouldn't besurprised if we see them again.
You know December.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
January down the road Would you agree with that,
stevie Agree, there were somebright spots on the team,
especially in the DBs.
They were playing really well.
Muhammad did play very well.
Was it Muhammad that got theholding call?
It was a ticky-tack foul.
I don't know why they called it, but they called it nonetheless

(10:11):
.
But the defense played verywell against Ohio State.
We won every facet of the statsheet except the score.
I don't think we did a bad jobon this game.
We did really well.
It's just that we needed to getthe offense started a little

(10:31):
bit quicker.
That's all.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
Quicker and execute it.
I think execution is more sothe issue there and Ohio state.
Give them I mean they playbetter, let's just give it to
them that defense is just asgood and they may be top two
defenses in college football.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
And here are the.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
Basically, this is the story.
These are the storylines fromthat game.
As we put this chapter, go tothe end of it.
Texas outrushed Ohio State by100 or 97, excuse me, 166 yards
to 77.
So that's 89 more yards rushingTexas.
Rush defense, that's the keyman you hold a team under 100.

(11:16):
But the one that stands out.
203 total yards of offense forOhio State and they also a true
freshman quarterback.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
Yep, golly, this hurts, man, because you know,
back in the day when I played,it was hold them under 100 yards
rushing, we're going to almostguarantee win the game, you know
, but you know, but holding themto the 14 points.
We just got to put some morepoints on the board.
That's the name of the game.

(11:48):
Um, we got to make some stopsin the red zone, um, so that
fourth and one, you know, yeah,my lineman got to get under and
submarine those guys.
So we're not getting pushedback in the end zone, our, our
linebackers can clean up overthe top.
So that's just some things thatwe got to work on in practice.

(12:11):
We probably hadn't had much goalline stances like that in
practice, but we got some filmon it now and hopefully they can
make a change, make somepersonnel changes, maybe on the
goal line defense and actuallyknow how to burrow, because I
can get into it, man, becausethis is my domain.

(12:34):
I love Leverage, I love thegoal line man, I love going, not
going to the ground, butsubmarining underneath and then
pulling up and let mylinebackers clean up on the
backside.
So that didn't happen on thatgoal line stance.
I was talking to somebody andthey were like.

(12:56):
But we stopped them three timesand I said but we needed four,
right, so that's just.
You know, that's the heart andsoul of Texas.
Football was big man on big manand for a couple of times this
weekend we lost a big man on bigman fight.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Right.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
So before we add, I've definitely has a good segue
by you, before we dive a littlebit deeper into what you're
talking about.
Bit deeper into what you'retalking about, how about that
freshman DB, grayson Littleton, pro football focus, which does a
great job of analyzing everygame down to the individuals and

(13:35):
giving them a rating?
That freshman, if I remembercorrectly I read that correctly
86.6 pro football focus rating?
That is the highest of all theDBs at Texas against Ohio State
Grayson Littleton, true freshman, that's outstanding, bro.
I mean, he was all over thefield and he wasn't lost, he
just played loose, yeah, but hehas some good mentors back there

(14:02):
.
But to Stevie Lee's point 0 for3 in the red zone.
For those who are not too sure,I'd say 90% of you guys
watching know what that is,that's when you're from the goal
line to the 20 of theopponent's side of the field0
for 3.
But here's another one.
Sark was a gambler and Irespect that Going forward on

(14:24):
fourth down 20% success rate.
And what Stevie was talkingabout, was this the key stop by
the Ohio State defense that youknow, I think nearly took the
sales out of Texas.
All right.

(14:54):
So, stevie, what would you haverather seen in that situation.
I know we're all pretty mucharmchair quarterbacks right now,
but do you risk or where at onyour priority?
If you had a clipboard or awristband, where does a
quarterback sneak fall on yourlist of plays and which order

(15:17):
would you call in that situation?

Speaker 3 (15:19):
no, I don't think um quarterback sneak is my was what
I would have done.
I I think um, a trap play orsomething like that, um, or
going a little bit off tackle oroff guard.
But I don't think I'm runningmy quarterback at that.

(15:41):
I mean he's young and toolittle right now.
I mean he looks good as agood-looking quarterback but
he's not the drop my shoulder.
I'm going to go get you a yardtype person which we just saw
that.
But I'm putting the ball in mybig back hands so my back can go

(16:02):
in there and bounce offsomebody and fall into the end
zone.
So that's just not what I wouldhave called.
I think Sark still hasconfidence in Arch.
That's why he called they stillhave confidence in his
offensive line, but they arestill young.
So maybe you know jitters gotinto them because they did not

(16:26):
win.
The low man Low man always winsand they did not win on that
play right there.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
They did not.
That's advantage Ohio State.
On that one they took advantageand exposed as they should have
less experience in front ofthem, so to speak.
But as we all do in life, youhave the opportunity to learn
from failures, period.
But the second half I thoughtwas a little different for Arch,

(16:57):
big, big adjustments and I feltlike you know Sark talked about
that.
But the second half I thoughtwas a little different for Arch,
big, big adjustments and I feltlike you know Sark talked about
that, having the conversationat halftime and I felt like Arch
had a little bit more swagger,so to speak.

Speaker 4 (17:12):
The growth throughout the game for Arch was really
encouraging.
For me we're going to be fine.
Like I said, we got work to doas a team and as an offense, but
ultimately I'm getting on theplane knowing we're going to be
a good football team.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
Okay, so they're back .
They had their press conferencetoday.
It sounded different.
They're not trying to putlipstick on a pig, it's just.
It's the frustrating part aboutanything, especially football.
When you have people at keypositions, you can't accelerate
their maturation.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
You just can't.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
This is no shot at any other position on the field,
but quarterback man, you can't.
Even Johnny Manziel needed sometime.
Even Vince needed time.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
Yep, and Coach is absolutely correct, man, the way
he came out in the second halfit made me feel like and I
talked about it a little bityesterday it made me feel like
that they got away from thescript that Coach has always
been talking about and actuallyrelaxed and let.
And golly, how do I put this?

(18:24):
Coach and Arch was in thesecond half.
They were where their feet were.
For me, going off a script, that's being somewhere else.
You make that script up in youroffice.
You make that script up on thepractice field somewhere else

(18:46):
other than right there, rightwhere you are, so being where
your feet are, seeing what's onthe field, feeling the field,
feeling the atmosphere, andcalling plays to that, instead
of calling plays from thecomfort of your office, I should
say, or the comfort of thequarterback's room.

(19:07):
So when they got rid of thescript, I believe they played
much better.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
What Stevie's referring to is a lot of.
There's a good handful ofcoaches who do it, but I suspect
Sark is one of them.

Speaker 5 (19:23):
What he does.
He talked a lot about it Huh.

Speaker 3 (19:26):
He talked a lot about it.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
Yeah, every game, to begin a game, there's a script
of the first 15, 20 plays onoffense, and all that is to have
control over getting yourquarterback and or offense into
a rhythm, whether it be up-tempo, exposed, see what the other
team does and then, after you'redone with the script of the 15,

(19:52):
20, whatever number of plays, then you're able to start
incorporating your normal motionand see what that defense does,
because you have data points.
Now, okay, they respond here.
Well, I've got to get a largergrouping of receivers over here
and get my playmakers in space.
That's what that was and thisis what happened which really

(20:15):
opened it up and gave Texas theywere never out of it, but they
needed this play in a big way.
Arch Madden Gives it Touchdown, texas Livingstone and the
Longhorns are on the ball.
I think we're going to hearthat a lot.

(20:38):
Parker, livingstone, redshirtfreshman, I believe Large, lanky
, tall, skilled, very skilledreceiver Got a one-on-one and
Art put that ball where only heLivingstone can get it.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
Yep, it was pretty man and it was that he had time
in the pocket and he stood up.
He looked off the safety andthen came back right and hit him
right in the hands in the endzone.
That's the gunslinger footballplayer that Arch is.
Arch is not a script guy.

(21:16):
He didn't look like a scriptguy.
He was too uptight, trying tostay on script and stay on the
plan and just let the kid go andplay football.
That's when it looked good, when he was just playing
football.

Speaker 2 (21:32):
Just like Vince Young in my opinion, absolutely All
of this would not be possiblewithout that O-line.
I thought and you have said ityesterday as well, I thought for
four new guys starting, some ofwhich had a lot of experience
coming in as a backup in theprevious couple of years.

(21:52):
Thought they played really welland even Stark addressed that.

Speaker 4 (21:57):
Probably the worst communication we had was on that
fourth down at the very end,you know, when we should have
slid all the way to that freerusher and we just had a lapse
that didn't get all the way downthe line to Brandon Baker.
But all in all, like I, waspleased with those guys, you
know.
You know we ran the football.
I think we could have thrown itbetter than we did, but we

(22:21):
didn't throw it the way wewanted to because of the O-line.
I thought the O-line gave usample protection and
opportunities to throw the balldown the field.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
Stevie, I'm going to give that line a B, maybe a
B-plus.
What do you think?

Speaker 3 (22:36):
That's good.
That's great.
That's your opinion and we'regoing to live with it.
I'm at a C, b minus.
I'm between there.
Yeah, man, at the University ofTexas, you got to dig that
group out so you can get atouchdown.
You got to get a touchdown onthe goal line.

(22:58):
You just have to.
We are known for big man.
We put big offensive linemenand defensive linemen in the
league, and that's the identitythat the University of Texas has
had for decades.
And if you can't do that, thenyou lose the game.

(23:21):
Right.
But I am also.
I do understand that I'm hardon offensive linemen and
defensive linemen, becausethat's my domain, right.
So, being able to dig them outand give, give art some time.
That last play, if arch had alittle bit more time, he would
have found a receiver open.

(23:42):
Right, they did.
They did come with a blitz, butwe still got to pick it up as a
line.
We got to pick that up.
So the old line did well.
Well enough to get seven points, but not well enough to get
1421 points, yeah.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
So you just yeah, they left some points on the
table.

Speaker 3 (24:01):
They left some points on the table and that that
fourth and one is.
That's probably a little bitplay call, but that's also
whatever the coaches play call.
Whatever the coach call, yougot to execute it and they did
not execute that fourth downplay.

Speaker 2 (24:23):
Well, they're going to get a lot, like I said, and I
really, really, really, reallyadvise not only Texas fans, it's
just my opinion, unsolicitedopinion the next three games I
know they're not sexy names incollege football at all San Jose
State they went to a bowl gamethe last few years.

(24:45):
They got beat by CentralMichigan 16-14 there and they're
opener All right, they havetalent.
And then Sam Houston State, whomade the transition to FBS
recently, had a 10-win seasonlast year.
And then UTEP and they got asignificant transfer who was one
of the top portal guys, one ofthe top talents coming out of

(25:09):
high school.
But we'll save that info forUTEP week.
But the whole point, Stevie, Iadvise every fan base embrace
these opportunities, becausewhat they achieve in games like
this I know you're thinking well, how in the hell can they learn
how to beat the physicality byplaying these guys?
Well, it's repetition andthat's what this is, the only

(25:31):
thing.
I think it's holding this teamback to achieve what they want
to.
In October and November, youknow we were taking a dump all
over Florida State, likeeveryone else was, and we
thought they had no chanceagainst Alabama.
And what happened, Stevie?
This happened.
Oh, the first big field stormerof the year is underway.

Speaker 5 (26:02):
How good is it to have ball back folks?

Speaker 1 (26:07):
We've talked all along about the chemistry on
this team and talked about howclose we are and how hard we've
worked doing a lot of the rightthings.
But we'll find out.
We'll find out if that sticks.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
All right, I would not want to beat Kalen DeBoer
right now.
First of all, you can't faulthim for taking that job after
Saban left from Washington.
By the way, Texas is 0-2against him.
Washington and yeah, and theAlamo Bowl and, of course, the

(26:40):
CFP semifinal.
But what do you think it's likefor him right now?

Speaker 1 (26:46):
Do you?

Speaker 2 (26:47):
think.
Obviously things change whenyou follow a legend.
Can he right the ship?
And what a coaching job so farthat has been done in
Tallahassee, florida.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
Yeah, I did not see that one coming.
I thought that Alabama wasgoing to be Alabama again.
I did too, yeah, but I do seeit, man.
Nick Saban is a big, bigpersonality that you have to
replace there and the wholeculture change of that

(27:22):
university Now in the samebreath.
Fsu was tired of being golly forlack of better words dumped on
last year because the yearbefore they cried about being in
the college football playoffsthat they didn't make it, and

(27:42):
then they got, or they did makeit and they got killed, right,
and then they started the seasonoff in Ireland last year and
got manhandled and then theyjust did not have a good season.
But so they've been hearing thatand so they've been changing
their culture and they wanted tocome out and show what they.
So they had a lot of momentumto change their culture and

(28:04):
change the way people look atthem.
And they came out there andshowed it and they did it
against Alabama.
They were at home, right, andso you know they have their home
crowd with them.
But you know it's Florida Stategot some momentum now and I
think that I watched a littlebit of that game.

(28:26):
I watched a lot of that gameand I was really impressed with
their offense, the way theymoved the ball, the way they
were just playing tough and hadgrit on the field.
So it was fun to watch and itwas just surprising that Alabama
so Stevie, your people do.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
They do this every time they win big games in LSU.
Yeah Well, folks in Louisianaare just different.

(29:03):
They dance to anything.

Speaker 3 (29:04):
They are different.
But that song that the band wasplaying, it is a I forget the
name of it, but it's like aLouisiana staple and it's a
second line.
You know what second line is?
It's a second line.
You know what second line is?
It's a second line song.
So if you were down in theFrench Quarter you'll see some
actual second line stepping.

(29:25):
Those people were having a goodtime that was in that clip you
just showed.
But they weren't doing it theway they were supposed to do it.
You got to have a napkin inyour hand or a handkerchief in
your hand and you got to stepwith it, right.
So there's my rhythmicallychallenged friends.

(29:45):
That was just now shown.
They're having a good time andthat's fine, but there's better
ways of stepping to that secondline.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
Well, some of us Caucasians just don't have that
rhythm.
I didn't say you did, I didbecause I can.

Speaker 1 (30:04):
And I'm one of them.

Speaker 2 (30:06):
Yeah, I've got rhythm .
I'm batting 200 on rhythm in mylife.
Okay, I'm not going to lie.
I may rip, I may tear ahamstring sometimes trying to
keep up with it.
But I'm not going to lie.
I may rip, I may tear ahamstring sometimes trying to
keep up with it.
But you give me a good bourbon,it may come out.

Speaker 3 (30:21):
Hey man, the rule is just to stay in your box right
here.
Just stay in your box, Stay inthe box.
It's like that junior highdancing like this.
Stay in the box.

Speaker 5 (30:29):
Junior high.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
Junior high dancing to Chicago and Journey.
Stay in your box.

Speaker 3 (30:33):
You start doing all this.
You're out of the box.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
Stay in the box, but hey if you just keep it, your
hands in your arms, in it'sgolden, but shut up.

Speaker 3 (30:42):
Loosen your shoulders , man you got to go tight.
Loosen your shoulders and justLet it go.
Loosen your shoulders there yougo.

Speaker 2 (30:50):
Unless you're doing the robot man, you can get it
all tight, tight.
Keep it right, keep it tight, right.
How about tonight?
Man, this is a big one.
Uh, clint small, his son, edsmall, from austin anderson,
making his debut for tcu.

(31:11):
Uh, it says tar hill debut.
That's not what I meant.
They're playing UNC, tcu andBill Belichick making his debut.
What do you think At in ChapelHill?

Speaker 3 (31:28):
It's going to be fun to watch.
I'm looking forward to watchingthat tonight.
I just don't see Bill Belichickbeing a good college coach man.
I just don't.

Speaker 6 (31:36):
I don't either, I don't, and don't either.

Speaker 3 (31:37):
I don't.
We'll see tonight, see if hebrings some NFL packages in.
I don't know.
I'm rooting for TCU, eventhough my favorite coach in the
world, coach Mack Brown, camefrom UNC to Texas, then went

(31:58):
back to UNC.
They're all right to me, man.
I like UNC.
It's a beautiful country upthere.
But I don't know if BillBelichick is their answer.
This is like a hobby for him.

Speaker 2 (32:15):
He's got a great staff behind the scenes who
aren't coaches, the GM of theprogram.
Everything's changing incollege athletics.
Who knows?
I don't know, but Ed Small, running with the twos and the
ones.
He's going to get a lot ofplaying time tonight and he's
going to be primetime.

(32:36):
Chapel Hill, austin's.
On Ed Small, one of the best tocome over, come out of the
Austin Independent SchoolDistrict.

Speaker 3 (32:42):
And alumni of the.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
Oh yeah, stories inside the man Cave VIP alumni.
Hey, before we pick it up evenfaster, hey, I've got to give
apology to all the University ofHouston Cougar alumni and fan
base.
I honestly thought and Ithought, listen, I thought my
boys from Nacogdoches, from thePiney Woods, stephen F, austin,

(33:08):
would shock the world and upsetHouston.
Last week, thursday, before thelast, this past Thursday, man,
houston has a better defensethan I thought.
Stephen F did a great jobdefensively, couldn't get much
offense going.
Houston, my apologies, I'lladmit it, I was wrong, but I'm

(33:30):
still axing jacks for life.
Stephen F lost to you 27-0.
And I wish you guys at Houston,I hope you get to a bowl game
and compete for the Big 12championship.
How about that, stevie?
Is that true?
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (33:45):
absolutely so.
If you don't score, if StephenF Austin doesn't score typically
Houston or someone that they'replaying, or if a defense, if a
school doesn't score typicallythe, the, the the score is way
lopsided, right.
That means that they did abunch of three and outs and the

(34:06):
defense still tried to hold hisown.
27 points is not bad.
Holding them to 27 points isnot bad when your offense can't
do anything.
So I see where you're goingwith it.
They probably have a couplemore steps, maybe a play or two
here, to put some points on theboard.
It could have been closer thanwhat it really was.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
So that's good, that's good.
Analysis by the Stevie LeeDaniel stopped in his tracks.
You said one, two and zero anduh shad banks is holding up his

(34:52):
part of the two-1-0 area code.
All right, stevie.
The Aggies struggled againstJeff Traylor and the UTSA UT San
Antonio Roadrunners.
That was a big-time hit on theAggie running back.
You saw that score in the thirdfour-point game and right
before that UTSA reeled off a75-yard touchdown run against

(35:16):
the Aggies.
All right, aggies are good, they're talented.
I still think A&M could be asurprise this year to make a run
, the CFP.
But before I get your feedbackon this, I want you to hear our
guy man Cave, vip alumnimultiple times, jeff Traylor on

(35:38):
his team against the Aggies.
Sounds like they've got anotherchance to run for another
conference championship.

Speaker 5 (35:45):
I just wondered how our kids were going to handle it
.
Then they didn't blink and youcould say, well, yeah, because
y'all were winning some of thegame.
I don't know if we were everwinning.
We were in the game, whateveryou want to say, Not even when
they kind of were getting awayfrom us.
We never flinched.
We've got championship fiber.

Speaker 2 (36:03):
We're about the right stuff you can tell he's Texas
high school coach through andthrough, by the way, stephen F
Austin alumni, jeff TraylorExcellent, there you go so do
you?
Go ahead.

Speaker 3 (36:21):
Well, I was going to say a little bit about that game
man.
I think UTSA got somethingspecial going on down there, man
Holding a SEC school in thethird quarter.
What was it?
17-24?
, 21-17.
In the third.
Man, that's hard, you got someheart out there on that field

(36:43):
that believed.
Apparently UTSA pulled off.
I'm sorry the Aggies pulledaway from it at the end, but you
know that was hard to just comeout there and only being down
by four points like that.
And the third, you know thathad the makings of a big upset

(37:06):
for the Aggies' home opener.

Speaker 2 (37:09):
I thought it was going to happen, but I did see a
lot of good potential.
But these season openers, man,you can't tell a lie, but you
can tell a lot on how every teamresponds in week two, stevie.
I want to show you something.
For the first time ever everDivision I college football in

(37:30):
the Rio Grande Valley.
How about that stadium, bro?
They converted a soccer stadiuma semi-pro hockey soccer

(37:50):
stadium into a division.
It looked good and it was full.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
Yep, it was.

Speaker 2 (37:55):
You'd be real grand.

Speaker 3 (37:57):
Yeah, that's going to be fun to watch and keep in
touch with man.
That's awesome, all rightmassive week two matchups.

Speaker 2 (38:04):
We'll start out with this.
You may laugh at me, butthere's not a lot of big ones
this week.
In week two, stevie, there'sonly two, and one of them is up
in Norman Oklahoma.
That's pretty big 14 and 18, Ibelieve.

Speaker 3 (38:24):
Yeah, who do you got?

Speaker 2 (38:28):
Man.
I know what it's like there inNorman.
There's a mystique there inNorman and when they finally got
a quarterback who can put themin position, they opened up with
Illinois State.
I think Michigan's good Ireally do.
I don't know how they we'llfind out but I really do believe
OU finds a way to pull this outand this big rivalry right here

(38:49):
.
The battle of I-35, dude.
Texas State absolutelydestroyed Eastern Michigan and
we saw what UTSA did.
They're going to play in theAlamo Dome.
Trailers boys don't lose muchat the Alamo Dome.
If Texas didn't have a homeopener this Saturday, I'd be

(39:09):
down in San Antonio.

Speaker 3 (39:11):
Yeah, I was just about to see what time that game
is, because I can probablyleave our game and go catch
their game.
What time is it?

Speaker 2 (39:19):
It may be evening If.

Speaker 3 (39:20):
I didn't have a 70th birthday party.

Speaker 2 (39:22):
Shout out to Patty Simon.
She's a fellow realtor, amember of your realtor
fraternity.
She is.
It's her 70th birthday, sowe're going to be celebrating
that night.
The upsets.
You may think I'm crazy.
I went through the list theBaptists versus the Methodists.

(39:43):
Smu is obviously ranked.
Baylor gave Auburn a fight.
I thought Baylor was going towin that one.
I'm going to take Baylor in theupset in Dallas.

Speaker 3 (39:57):
Okay, all right, I'm going to disagree, but go ahead.

Speaker 2 (40:02):
Okay, so you're taking the smooth Yep.
All right, this is Iowa State'sranked.
This is the Cy Hawk Trophyrivalry Iowa versus Iowa State.
Iowa's known for great defense.
They don't score a lot, but Ido think Iowa takes this one in

(40:22):
Ames.

Speaker 3 (40:24):
I agree with you.

Speaker 2 (40:26):
All right, the Florida Gators are really good
with Lagwit quarterback.
However, the University ofSouth Florida they just put it
on Boise State, which was ranked, do they upset the Gators at
the Swamp?

Speaker 3 (40:42):
No.

Speaker 2 (40:44):
Okay, I'm pulling, I'm going.
Usf the mighty Bulls baby.

Speaker 3 (40:50):
Oh, wow.

Speaker 2 (40:51):
Okay, mississippi State.
Well, I don't know how goodthey are.
I know how good Arizona Stateis.
They're good, but MississippiState's at home in Stark Vegas,
do they upset the Sun Devils?

Speaker 3 (41:07):
Yes, I got Mississippi State.

Speaker 2 (41:09):
I'll take Arizona State.
Whoa.
There we go.
So before we hit the break,Kendra Scott, you know the queen
of the jewelry queen here inAustin, Texas.
She's a UT alum Dude.
She went balls to the wall, allout, to surprise her son by

(41:29):
renovating, remodeling hisbedroom.
Once you look at the detail, the extent to which she did for
her son's birthday present.

Speaker 5 (41:39):
Okay, hold on the eyes of Texas.
Are what?
No, what did he say?

Speaker 6 (41:45):
That's from the locker room.
That is a real From the lockerroom.

Speaker 5 (41:48):
When is a real locker room.
When they redid it, I boughtone on auction for you.

Speaker 6 (41:53):
This came out of the Texas Longhorn locker room.
This is Arch.
Sent this to you for yourbirthday.

Speaker 3 (42:01):
Wow, that's awesome.

Speaker 2 (42:03):
If you have the resources, why not?

Speaker 3 (42:06):
Why not Absolutely?

Speaker 2 (42:09):
Right out of the Texas Longhorn locker room.
Hey, we're going to take aquick break.
We've got to give a shout-outto our Hargrove fan, but on the
other side, stevie and I in asquickly as we can.
I can't wait to hear Stevie'sfeedback on the Cowboys.
Micah Parsons no longer aCowboy and it's NFL opening week

(42:31):
.
We'll see you on the other side.

Speaker 6 (42:33):
Here at Hardcore Roofing we try to think outside
the box to kind of get thecreative juices flowing.
So I brought in my friendStevie Lee, former defensive
tackle for the Texas Longhorns.
He's going to help the teamstrategize, really motivate them
.
Light a fire.

Speaker 3 (42:47):
This guy's going to block down.
This guy's going to block down.
This guy's going to block down.
You put your butt into theguard and that way my Mike
linebacker gets free to do what.

Speaker 6 (42:56):
Not only are they going to learn a thing or two,
but they're going to also leavewith a great attitude and a
bunch of smiles on their faces.

Speaker 1 (43:04):
I'm sorry.
What does this have to do withroofing exactly?

Speaker 3 (43:08):
Get out Right now.
I said get out.

Speaker 6 (43:14):
For me, that's what it's all about.
It's just having fun making ouremployees have a great time.
Hargrove Roofing Know who's onyour roof.

Speaker 2 (43:23):
Stevie, I'll never forgive you for knocking those
papers out of my hands as hardas you did.
That was anger.

Speaker 3 (43:31):
A lot of anger right there.
It wasn't man, it was justacting.

Speaker 2 (43:35):
I promise you got an Academy Award for that, or a
Golden Globe, whatever we.
Anyway, it's also NFL regularseason opening week.
Everybody it will begin theseason this week Beginning
Thursday.
It's the Cowboys and Eaglesthey usually start, and then on

(43:55):
Sunday the Texans are at theRams First off.
I won't go into predictingwho's going to win the Super
Bowl, but I'd love to hear yourreaction to Jerry Jones cutting
the cord on Micah Parsonsgetting two future first-round
draft picks and a defensivetackle from Green Bay and Kenny

(44:16):
Clark.

Speaker 3 (44:17):
The problem with those future first-round draft
picks.
Are both of them Green Bay'sfirst-round draft picks or are
they one of somebody else's?

Speaker 2 (44:27):
I'm pretty sure that they were Green Bay's, because
Green Bay Both Green.

Speaker 3 (44:30):
Bay's.
So Green Bay is going to be.
With this trade, green Bay isgoing to be good, so it's going
to be late.
First round picks, right.
So I always wanted Dak and theCowboys to do well.
I always want the Texans to dowell, but I have to shift my

(44:51):
loyalty, man.
I can't do this whole JerryJones and Rick and Ramone right
now.
Man, that was actually terrible.
First of all, we know that youmake deals with the agent
involved and not pulling indavid moogiletta, uh to help.

Speaker 2 (45:18):
Well done on that yeah, to help.

Speaker 3 (45:20):
Uh, we went to college together, really, yeah,
he went to texas and then hewent up to nebraska to go to law
school and then a lot of myclients are his clients.
So we've done some worktogether.
In fact, I closed him.
I closed him.
He had a house in Austin and Ihelped him out.
Anyway, I know him, but for himto blackball him basically and

(45:45):
not get him involved in thenegotiations him basically, and
not get him involved in thenegotiations I think Micah
wanted to be a Dallas Cowboy, but the way Jerry handled this
whole situation, I don't like it.
It stinks to me, man, it reallyreally does.
I wanted him to be a cowboy, but to let someone go with that

(46:09):
type of talent, um, and withoutpaying him what he was just
asking for, right, um, it's,it's, it was.
It turned me off to the galscowboys and I wasn't turned on
to them, but it turned me off towhere I want to root against
them.
I'm not lying, it's just likedude.

(46:34):
He's asking for what's fair,that's all.
He wants to be the highest paiddefensive player because he's
the best defensive player in theleague.
David went out there and foundthe best deal for his client and
I don't know why the Cowboysego got in the way of keeping a

(46:59):
generational talent, just thesame way the Dallas Mavericks
did with Luka.
It's a Dallas problem right now.
Dallas is going through apandemic right now.

Speaker 2 (47:13):
Our TikTok in the man cave.
You see some wild stuff.
I've seen more since I've beenadding content, so you know
iguanas are fun lizards.
They're good pets, but did youknow that their tail is quite
dangerous?
Did you know that?
Did not well, we're gonna learnright now I did not know that.

(47:48):
Dude, that tail was like a whip.

Speaker 3 (47:53):
I did not know that.
Well, thanks for letting meknow.
I will stay away.

Speaker 2 (47:58):
Don't piss off an iguana.

Speaker 3 (48:00):
Yeah, man.

Speaker 2 (48:01):
That's worth another look.

Speaker 3 (48:03):
Look at this, Watch it hey that's a good-looking
iguana, by the way.
Yeah, he got an instant welt onhis back.

Speaker 2 (48:10):
Easy and that on his thighs and it may have shredded
his ACL.
Ah, the guy kept going back formore.

Speaker 3 (48:22):
Yeah, yeah, not very smart.
Hey, man tell me something good, not very smart.

Speaker 2 (48:31):
Hey, man, tell me something good, Stevie.
A lot in this negative world, alot to be thankful for.
But, man, I know we startedfootball.
It's so easy to say hey, football season and tailgating
and all that, but tell mesomething good in your world
that maybe will inspire or put asmile on everyone's face as we
close out Episode 476.

Speaker 3 (48:52):
Something good is I flew my daughter in this weekend
from college.
This is the first time cominghome from college and we had a
really really good time.
Just put her on a plane to goback to Kansas City.
She's on her way back flying inthe air right now.
It was a fun weekend with them.
It was my wife's birthday andwe had a really really good time

(49:14):
in Houston and then we cameback home and finished off the
weekend here in the Austin area.
So that was something good forus.
But the next thing that'ssomething good in the future is
it's a home game.
It's a home game at DKR, whereall my friends are going to be
there and drinking and having agood time.
We're going to be under theshade tree with Todd Hunt at the

(49:36):
best damn tailgate on the 49ersthe Todd Tour.
Yeah, and we're going to do theTodd Tour.
Man, I just can't wait.
It's going to be hot.
It is what it is, guys.
It's just going to be hot, allright, but we're going to go out
there and have a good old timeand be careful, drink

(49:57):
responsibly, do all the thingsand keep safe out there.
It's going to be hot, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
But I'm so looking forward tothis home game, man, I can't
wait.

Speaker 2 (50:08):
I'll see you at 9 am Saturday.

Speaker 3 (50:10):
Oh man.

Speaker 2 (50:11):
I may get there at 8.30, though.

Speaker 3 (50:16):
No question, that's awesome.
But, man, I'm really, reallylooking forward to that.
I'm really giddy about that.
I just want to get this workweek out of the way and hang out
with my friends.

Speaker 2 (50:28):
I can't wait to see you.
And we got to get you know.
Norman rolls up at his own, athis own face.
You never know.
Yeah, it's funny, norman'sNorman walking.
Hey, don't tell him a time.
Yeah, it's on, norman, timeit's on.

Speaker 3 (50:42):
Norman time You'll be upset with him, but when he
shows up with that smile, Ican't be mad at you, can't be
mad at him anymore.

Speaker 2 (50:52):
We love norm.
I'm good man and that I knowit's something else is good,
just all the relationships we've.
We've we've had because oftailgating.
We get to see our dkr familyagain and everybody, wherever
you, whatever stadium you go to,that is a true fun.
Endless memories, friends forlife.

(51:14):
Type of family it is.
Enjoy it, man.
College football is a differentthing and it's beautiful and
you just can't replace it.
And shout out to Stevie's betterhalf, summer Lee Happy birthday
to her, celebrating 38 and ahalf again.

(51:38):
