A short overview episode to introduce the podcast, explain what it is all about, and who it is for.

This initial five-part series (to be released weekly from November 20th) tells the stories of a young farmer involved in a farm motorcycle accident, a triple Olympian’s unexpected stroke on the operating table, an electrician’s long deterioration from a workplace (back) injury, a young professional’s exposure to too many concussions, and a newspaper editors emotional rollercoaster following the effects of a misfiring shotgun.

These are their stories, focussed on the tangible actions that helped them to regain their health. Content covers treatments, methodologies, resources, attitudes, practices and current brain science. Let us stand on the shoulders of those who’ve walked before us.

Robbie - Host (00:26):
My name is Robbie Frawley, and I'd like to warmly
welcome you to this podcast-Stories of Recovery.
In this podcast, I'm going to beinterviewing people who have
experienced and recovered frombrain-related conditions, such
as stroke, concussion, chronicpain, and traumatic brain
injury.
We'll discuss their story andhighlight the things which have

(00:48):
been most beneficial and mostimportant in their recovery.
This might be specifictreatments or medical
professionals that were mostcrucial.
It could be books, knowledge, oradvice which they were given or
which they found along the way,or even particular habits,
attitudes, or practices thathelped them the most.
If you or someone you care aboutis struggling to recover from

(01:10):
one of these or another brainrelated condition, this podcast
was really made with you inmind.
Know that others have been whereyou are now, and that they have
gotten better.
You CAN recover and hopefully inthe interviews that follow
you'll hear a thing or two whichresonate and which help you to
do just that.

(01:30):
Personally, growing up playing alot of sport in the country I
received a number ofconcussions.
These were never a problem untilthe last one developed into
something called post-concussionsyndrome.
I'd never heard of it, but itleft me with ongoing fatigue,
headaches, nausea, vertigo, cognitive fog, overwhelm, and
sensitivity to impact.

(01:51):
It had a dramatic effect on mylife, and it took many years,
much effort and great assistancefrom others around me to fully
recover from it.
I remember during my recovery Iwas desperate to speak to
someone who had been throughthis and had come out the other
end.
That proved a very difficultthing to do at the time however.
So now that I'm back at 100% andagain have some surplus energy,

(02:16):
I've developed this podcast todo just that, to find, speak to
and record the stories of otherswho've been through these things
before us to share theirlearnings, their insights, and
their tips and tricks with you.
Now, the trickiest thing aboutthis podcast will be ensuring
that it reaches the people whoneed it the most.
Those who are still strugglingand battling to recover their

(02:39):
health, to recover from brainrelated conditions, such as
stroke post-concussion syndrome, chronic or persistent pain,
vestibular issues, blastinjuries, or traumatic brain
injury.
If you are listening to thispodcast and you know of anyone
who has experienced one of theseconditions, please share this
podcast with them.
You probably won't really knowhow much they're suffering until

(03:02):
years down the track.
And hopefully they'll thank youfor it.
Also, if you found your wayhere, I'd really encourage you
to listen to the stories ofother conditions, too.
For instance if you're sufferingfrom persistent pain, I'd really
recommend that you listen to theinterviews about concussion and
stroke, etcetera.
Personally this was crucial inmy own recovery and you'll find

(03:26):
there's a huge amount of overlapand a lot to learn from each
other's stories in this space.
And finally, I'd just like tosay, I wish you courage and
energy on your own journeyforward.
Thanks very much.
