This week, it's all about the lessons to learn.
Right now, in this moment,,,this is her childhood. Put the phone down , pay attention, be involved . Every time you get frustrated at spilled water or “it’s time for a bath” and there is a struggle, my lesson is that this….these moments are what is going to shape her inner voice. All of my reactions and my attitude help create and shape her childhood - and I want to make sure that at a minimum, I’m not creating more issues for her and at my best I’m helping create a wonderful childhood.
Enjoy the moment because it will never happen again.
I think back to all those times I missed - I’ll never get them back. I’ll never get back the feeling of sitting on a rooftop patio in downtown Chicago overlooking the river on a beautiful spring day with friends…why? Because I was so busy not living in the moment.
I’ll never get back those missed fun times with college friends playing video games or going out for brunch because I was so focused on something else.
I’ll never get back all of the fun times in a new city like Dallas when I was finally making enough money to enjoy myself a little…why? Because I was chasing some phantom b.s. I created in my head.
Men look to solve problem…sometimes it’s ego and in those cases, we as men need to shut up and not be the hero. Sometimes it’s out of a place of love and wanting to help.
But, often times, our wives need to just express themselves out loud…because, if they say this at work, they are often labeled emotional by their older white male supervisors…if they express themselves or exhale with friends they can even seen as high maintenance or ungrateful …
And,- they are smart and more than capable of solving their own problems and the advice we would give by interrupting their story, “well if your car was low on gas, you should probably put gas in it”…that’s not gonna help the situation.
Stop trying to impress strangers . Spend time with yourself understand why you are doing that - what is the reason why you so focused on the outward? I had to ask myself those questions and I think it ultimately boiled down to wanting to feel like I belonged - that I was liked by people, that I was accepted…so I chased things that I thought would put me in that position or elevate me in others eyes…and all it did was waste time and take away from me building out my life.

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist
It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
