(00:00):
Welcome to the Storiespirepodcast.
I'm Mary R.
Snyder.
I am your host and storytellingstrategist.
I'm here with expert advice, actionable tips, and frameworks
to create the stories that willinspire hearts and minds because
stories change the world.
Let's get into it.
Hi there.

(00:21):
So, you may be wondering, whyStorySpire?
This has been take the stage forso long, and we've been on a
break for a little while.
Little pause.
let me share the story with you.
As many of you know, I have beenserving and coaching speakers
for years.
I have been working with storiesfor years.

(00:45):
I've also been working withnonprofits.
Now, that wasn't quite as publicas some of the other things.
But I knew that I wanted thesetwo to come together.
The work I do with speakers andthe work I do with nonprofits,
with fundraisers, with peoplewho are telling the story so

(01:06):
they can get you to join theircause.
And after months of work, Irealized the one thing both
groups do is tell stories.
You both tell incrediblestories, you tell stories that
connect your heart to the heartof the person listening, whether

(01:29):
that is an audience, whetherit's a reader, whether it's a
person across the table fromyou.
Stories link us together, andthey do more than just link us
together, they move the needle.
So, Storiespire.

(01:49):
It's about how we tell thestories because as I worked with
both nonprofit fundraisers andspeakers, I found one thing was
a commonality.
You have these incrediblestories, but they often get lost
in a lot of detail.
For the speakers, it's sometimesa little bit of oversharing.
So many details that we don'tknow where the story starts and

(02:13):
ends.
And for nonprofit fundraisers,it's all that data and the
statistics.
and the profit and lossstatements.
The stories get lost, butstories are what connects us.
So whether you're telling yourstory because you want to
showcase what God has done inyour life, you want to show

(02:35):
people the amazing work thathe's done in and through you, or
you're telling your storybecause you want your audience
to join you with a donation, maybe with volunteering, no
matter what your story is.
Stories are the connector.
Story Spire is just that.

(02:56):
Story Spire is a podcast allabout stories.
It's about storytelling.
It's about storytelling tips.
It is very much like it used tobe.
It's short.
It's quick.
It's easy.
It's consumable.
And actionable, and that's whatwe're going to be talking about
is actionable tips.
We're going to talk about whystories matter, because here's

(03:19):
what I do know about stories.
Stories inspire, storieschallenge us, stories connect
us, as I've said.
They also touch hearts, buthere's the thing that stories do
beyond everything else.
Is stories change the world andyour story can and will do just

(03:43):
that I'm excited you're here onthe journey with me.
I look forward to showing uphere either on YouTube are in
whatever your preferred audiopodcast provider is and sharing
a new story.
Spire tip every week.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
