In 1983, Turner reached the finals in the 110-meter hurdles at the World Championships in Athletics, setting a personal best of 13.17 seconds that year. His personal record in the 400-meter hurdles stands at 49.04 seconds, achieved in 1978, which ranked him fifth globally at that time.
