BUT FIRST, we discuss current-day nonsense, including the latest batch of WWE releases.--Follow us!shooterspod.comTwitter/X: [@_piccone] [@VaughnMJohnson] [@ShootersRadio]Instagram: [@shootersradio]Threads: [@shootersradio] [@picconenick] [@vaughnjohnson166]Bluesky: [@shootersradio] [@piccone] [@vaughnjohnson]Facebook: [The Straight Shooters]Exclusive Patreon content: [patreon.com/shootersradio]

Speaker 1 (00:13):
What's up everyone out there in internet land, and welcome
to episode four twenty eight of The Straight Shooters, available
wherever podcasts are found. My name is Vaughan Johnson, and
I'm joined as always by my main man Pots and Pans,
Nick Pocona Fox, PHL the Gambler, and Philly Influencer, and
we have yet another fantastic show ahead of us here

(00:33):
on episode four twenty eight. It is a deep dive
you're diving deep into cause it's springtime. You gotta dive
into a Spring Stampede from WCW World Championship Wrestling, which
when we're diving into Spring Stampede nineteen ninety seven, which
was a in some ways a good show and in

(00:56):
other ways another episode of nitro Mys. But we're gonna
talk all about it here in our deep dive. But
before we get into anything else here on the show,
including current day nonsense, I gotta do more weekly check
on my main man Pots and Pans. Nick, How are
you on this lovely Monday evening?

Speaker 2 (01:13):
My good brother the Flyers got screwed again? Oh man,
NHL Draft Lottery, the New York Islanders, oh man, for who?

Speaker 1 (01:23):
How did that happen?

Speaker 2 (01:24):
For what what's going on here? Man? The NHL continually
screws the Flyers every single year, and I'm sick of it.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
The NFL, though, is cool with the with Philadelphia. I
don't know something, but something with these other sports they
hate Philadelphia.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Come on, like, get the Flyers relevant again. It makes
the NHL better. If the Flyers are a pleasant team,
that's the top market in the league. Let's go.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
That's that's that's a fair point. If you know, if
you if the Flyers are at least good, it's a
major market. Maybe you can get both sides of Pennsylvania
to care about hockey.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Just one the freaking Chicago Blackhawks get rewarded after their
organizational culture.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
It's a look at the draw, man.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
And screwed and screwed and screwed. Man.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
It's the it's the look of the draw or the
unluckyness of the draw. Right, it's not eight. I'm not
making those accusations. It's it's a lottery. It's a weighted
it's a it's a weighted lottery, right like.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
The NBA, a big weight and they got the worst
outcome possible. They went into tonight's lottery, the worst case
scenario was picking six and they were in the top
four the entire way until they weren't, and boom they
get six, and it's like, are you kidding me? Are

(02:50):
you kidding me? I mean and Danorier better have some
magic up a sleep.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
I say, what do we know who the prospects are?

Speaker 2 (02:58):
We don't. It's the principle the battle.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
I'm just I'm saying like, it's not like we know
who these people are, and it's like, oh, we missed
out on this person. Most of people probably looking at
this is like not even looking at who's coming out
of the draft. You don't know who these guys are.
You're just like, damn, we could have had this and
now we got this, but like a screwed by the NHL,
even though we got Matve mitchkaugh In that last year,

(03:20):
you know in Philadelphia, he's supposed to be pretty goods cough.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
You know, I don't even know what went on with that,
but he got picked seventh. Flyers got him seventh a
couple of years ago, and then he was in Russia
and then he finally came over this year. Mm hm,
I lightning in a bottle? Possibly so nice? No, I know,
I'm saying, like, that's not gonna be very, very crazy

(03:45):
for the Flyers to get that type of talent number
six in this draft, That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
I mean, do we know that though.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Number one overall talent that people just got scared of
for some reason.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
I don't know, Man, I feel like good players, I
don't know. I don't know about that. I feel like
they just made the right pick. They got a good
player and maybe they can find another gym at the seventh.
Talking about seventh in the draft, six.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Because he was there's gonna go one or two, you know,
like he teams just didn't take him. It was a
diva or something. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
Well, look, it's still it's not a terrible position to
be six, And as far as I know, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Perhaps it might be.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
I literally don't know. Some drafts are, you know, deep
with talent. Some drafts aren't. I literally have done no
uh research or any type of studying about the NHL
Draft because that's not what I do.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Research is the Flyers were screwed again.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Well, I'll take my cues from Jackie Spiegor at the
Philadelphia Inquirer, who will be putting on some content, I'm sure, uh,
and and very soon, so keep an eye for that.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Nicks are losing to the Celtics currently at a halftime.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Better news. Also, the Phillies have won a bunch of
series in a row. A couple of series in a row,
I should say, not a bunch whatever.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
You know.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
That Diamondbacks loss was pretty rough yesterday. You know, you come.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Back from down seven to one. You gotta win that game. Man,
Come on, of course, I like, don't do that to
us the game. Go win the game. If it was
it was seven to one, I was. I was calling
for Garrett stubs to come back up here and start pitching.
Oh man, the position players, you know, get a position

(05:24):
player out there.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
But for Garrett to come back.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
They came back and they didn't win, And that's just annoying.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
It'd be like that sometimes, as unfortunate as it is
sports teams off.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Speaking of Citizens Bank Park, I was there today. They
had their home run like charity event. It's like a
charity event they have for like heart research and raising
money for heart health. It was called hard Hats with
Heart at Citizens Bank Park today and they out the
media to come down for like an hour and take

(06:01):
some swings and I took twenty of them, and I
made some contact and a couple of them and we
shot it for content, so there will be visual evidence.
It's coming out soon, all right, Just soy y'all know.
So that's what I did at eight o'clock this morning
at Sidis Bank Ballpark. So that's what I'm doing, just
out here doing random stuff. Won't be the won't be

(06:21):
the only time you'll see me on camera this week,
by the way. Uh, we got a golf video coming
out because the Truest Championship is here this week.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Yep, yep. Gambler's gonna be there.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
You go, there, you go. We're here at the Inquire.
We got a bunch of content including you know, uh
an offshoot, an unofficial offshoot of this of the Truest
Championship where we had people play putt, play mini golf
in Rittenhouse Square.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
We called it the Center City Open.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
See.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Uh, So keep an eye for that soon as well.
So I get my jim nance on. You know what
I'm saying, Hello, friends, you know what I'm saying. So, so, yeah,
that's what's going on here around here at the Straight shooters.
But let's get into some current day nonsense here in
the world of wrestling, and if you're talking specifically WW

(07:14):
there's no nonsense. Specifically, if you are a wrestler that
got released this past Friday, all right, you know for sure,
And there was a lot of them, well over a dozen,
I believe. I think seventeen or something like that was
the number that I saw.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
I was adding to the list yesterday, and I don't
know if I missed any, but yeah, I think the
last number I saw was seventeen.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Yeah, yeah, so it's seventeen.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
But I don't know.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
The majority of them, I should say, are NXT talent.
But there are a few names that were on the
main roster that you know, we've watched extensively over the
last past you know, seven eight years or so. We
talk about Bronze Stroman being probably the biggest, you know,
no pun intended name on the list simply because like

(08:05):
he's been Universal Champion, right, but also he had a
major run in twenty seventeen twenty eighteen that they didn't
capitalize on, didn't release them in like twenty twenty, despite
giving him the title in twenty twenty, brought back but
things didn't go quite the way it did the first

(08:25):
time he was around. I thought he had some good
matches and some good future that he put other people
over in. But you know, he's getting up there. It
probably costs a lot of money, and I guess they
didn't have any plans for him really moving forward, so
they said, let's just move on right now. That's the

(08:45):
same for SHANEA. Basler, who I don't understand why they
never found a way to use Shane Basler and in
a prominent way. It just she's so legitimate, so different
from the other wrestlers on the roster that I feel
like she should have had a place somewhere, Like even
if she's not a world champion, she could have been
contending for the IC or the US title, like you

(09:08):
have those titles to, you know, create more opportunities for
people like Shanna Basler, who I don't know if Shane A.
Bezel is the best talker in the world, but she's
good enough, right you think, And then in the ring
she's fine, she's great, And then she's believable because she
she fought in the UFC and they gave her a
big push in n XT and then at the beginning

(09:29):
of her time in the main roster and then for
some reason, it's just like we're moving on to other places.
And the same for Dakota Kai, who I just felt like,
again you got these min car titles, you feel like
the Chicago opportunities for Dakota Kai. This is also her
second time being released by WW. Hopefully she can move

(09:51):
on to something else and become a bigger star elsewhere,
because I think there's still a lot of untapped potential
with Dakota Kai that WW for whatever reason, just didn't
tap into. Not to say there is any with SHANEA.
Basel On Brown Strowman. But you know, when you get older,
in my opinion, and you know, I can speak for
myself too, like get older, you get more expensive, and
it just means like there's not as many places to work,

(10:11):
you know, when you get more expensive. So I hope,
you know, they land somewhere on their feet. I'm sure
they will because again both very talented. Also, Katana Chance
and Kayden Carter got released like a whole tag team,
like they have tag titles and then get rid of
a whole tag to me, the actual tag team, the
one tag team they actually had an WW for the
women's side, I should say they got rid of. But

(10:35):
also Shatzy black Heart's contract would not be renewed according
to fight Ful, So I didn't know if you had
any thoughts on the names I mentioned or the other
ones that were released. But regardless, I'm never on the
side of seeing, you know, wanting to see people lose
their jobs. It sucks. I do also understand ww's like
we got a lot of people, and we're not using

(10:55):
a lot of these people in prominent ways. So let
them run free kind of do like just not had
them ride the bench, so to speak, hold them hostage,
let them go to TNAK possibly or wherever they want
to run. Like I think the code Kay can make
a lot of money outside of WW in my opinion.
But again, have any thoughts about the names I mentioned

(11:15):
or anybody else that was on the list unfortunate the
unfortunate list?

Speaker 2 (11:20):
To me, it just seems like deja vu with like
Braun Strowman and Dakota Kai being released. They were released before,
got resigned back, were given pushes, and now it's like
they were I say prominently featured, but I mean they
were featured on TV at least recently. So it's just
weird to see when talent that's been on TV as

(11:43):
early as you know, a week ago or two weeks
ago or released. Like you you kind of come to
expect talent you haven't seen in a while getting released,
you haven't seen on TV getting released. But yeah, it's
just you know, never once you see like the first report,
I think the first one I saw was bron Struman

(12:04):
getting released, and then I see like a tweet like
ww release is ongoing. I think a couple of them
were behind the scenes people from like social media, and
then another one that I saw it was like it's
not just talent too. So and we talked about this
from the last year when the merger happened with like
UFC andwe and how when stuff like that happens, people

(12:27):
lose jobs and it doesn't matter how long after the
merger happens, like there will be jobs lost because of
a merger and decisions that come out of that. And
this is probably part of that too. I mean, like
you got people that will they go you have TNA there,
but again like I don't, I don't know if you

(12:51):
want to limit you know, those people to TNA either
I don't. I don't necessarily know if it's like a
release and a wink wink go here and then you know,
we'll we'll still have you on w t V at
some point.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
To me, I think it's an outright release. Bro, we
don't know.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
I know, I know, I'm saying, like, technically they will
be under TNA contract, but you know, maybe they don't
want that. You know, like I could definitely buy a
company like w W believing that the talent they released
will take their you know, advice if they have any
advice or where to go. But again, it only helps

(13:29):
w in the long run, you know, whatever they want
to do. Uh, I can't exactly tell the talent where
to go after releasing them. And at the same time,
they sent someone to evolve from NXT. And it's like,
I guess that there was some people, I think Eddie
Thorpe or was it Eddie No, No, it was Riley
Osborne that apparently reportedly rejected a move to evolve from NXT,

(13:55):
so you know, he was released, So it's possible possible that,
you know, maybe they want a Bronze Stroman to go
to NXT. I don't know, It's like no, no, no, maybe.
I mean so you know, we don't know exactly the reasons,
but it's just annoying. You know, like these wrestlers should
land on their feet, but you think in the grand scheme,

(14:17):
a lot of them, you know, WW is their dream.
So even though they might go to AW or CNA
or New Japan, even is that, you know, their dream
quote unquote has been cut short just because of limitation,
like roster limitations, Like even though you have all these titles,

(14:37):
like you have this TV time to take up and
you're not using them. I just I don't know.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
I mean I get that, like I get that they
have a lot of titles and whatnot, especially for it's
really agrees when the women's tag team division to me,
because like why have the titles then if you're not
going to actually like you know, and this is actually
a real tag team.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
To be doing a movie now, So like are they
even gonna be on TV?

Speaker 1 (15:01):
They're not. They're not gonna be on TV. They talked
about it on TV. She's not gonna be around for
like a good solid month or so. So yeah, that's
to me, that's the issue. But you know the thing is,
if you the problem is ww does have a lot
of talent, and yeah, you have a lot of talent,
and they do have a lot of TV time, but
it's not really not that much honestly when you really
think about it, So you gotta do you want? Would

(15:23):
you rather have somebody just sitting backstage collecting the check
the whole time doing nothing for the wrestlers? Wouldn't want that?
They would't actually be working doing what they you know,
love to do. Uh So, you know, as much as
it sucks to lose your job, trust me, having an
uncertain future in regards to your income is horrible, But
at least it gives them the freedom to do whatever

(15:45):
they want next, at the very least, I guess, you know,
and not just sit back and ride the pine and
hang out catering or clearly, like if you're a Bron
Strowman or Dakota Katay just didn't have plans for them
to be big stars. It's just like, well, go be
a big star somewhere else. Maybe I guess it's sound
like it's impossible they could. They could, you know, never

(16:06):
come back like this has gone forever. I mean, they've
shown they've brought Ron Strowman back and the code Kai
back already, so it's not like it's impossible they couldn't
bring him back. I don't know if I could go
back a third time, but you know, I feel like
like a guy like Drew Backatyre went away and even
Cody Rhodes went away and came back, you know, and
became bigger stars. So those are just two examples, only two,

(16:27):
but like sounds like it's impossible, right, So hopefully this
is the end of the line for anybody that lost
their job this past Friday, which again it's terrible, especially
in this economy what's going on right now, yikes, you know.
But again, if you you know, if you're young enough

(16:49):
and you still got some years ahead of you, I
think especially you know, that independent scene is still out
there and you can use your ww slash NXC credentials
to your advantage hopefully and make some money. But again
it's I'm always in the side of like, people losing
their jobs sucks, So I'm never gonna be like take

(17:13):
that for granted. I think some people do, like, oh,
who are these people who cares? And it's like, no,
that sucks, bro, Like these are people who have bills.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
I don't like looking at like the blessing in disguised
type thing, I mean for some talent. No, yeah, because
then it opens up other doors that they didn't have otherwise.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
That's fair.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
Yeah, you know it's not everybody, you know, like everyone
doesn't look at that way.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
No, not everybody lands in their feet and not everybody.
There's not enough room for everybody to make money in
the industry. I mean to make actual money. I mean,
WW is a place where you can make actual money
and that you can't just easily replicate that somewhere else.
Uh So that's the unfortunate part. So again that's why
I'm like, I'm never I'm not on the side of
people losing their jobs. I'm sure people would much rather
keep collecting getting paid. But I guess if you're like

(17:56):
I still want to make myself a star in his industry,
it's you know, being able to have the freedom to
work again instead of it's like I look at us
like being like a quarterback in the NFL. Right, you
can be a backup quarterback in the NFL and make
a lot of money, but you don't get that many
reps being a backup quarterback because if you're on a
team winn an established starter, they get all the reps,

(18:18):
so you don't really see any game time and you
probably don't get that much practice time outside of like
training camp, but in the regular season the start against
the reps. So sometimes, like I remember, like aj Mccaerron,
he was in the UFL and XFL whatever, that was
his first time playing in years. And this is aj
mccaern He played in Alabama won the national championships, but

(18:39):
because he's in the NFL as a backup, he never
really got a chance to play for multiple years after that,
and going to the UFL actually gave him a chance
to play, you know what I'm saying, professional football instead
of just being Andy Dalton and you know who's Joe
Burrow's backup, you know, and helping them get ready for
the game. So there is no real like you said,

(19:02):
I agree with you, there's no real silver lining to
losing your job, Like that's always terrible, but again, if
you're trying to make a career out of it, it's
better than just not working and becoming irrelevant. But you
get to pay your bills too, so like there's two
sides to every corn. Unfortunately, but again I'm usually on
the side of it's unfortunate. That's that's usually the prevailing

(19:26):
take that I take from it. Uh, And they WW
it's like an annual thing for WW. By the way,
right after WrestleMania, they kind of trim the roster down
a little bit, and you know, you got some people
that's gonna move up eventually. There's some people in NXT
that probably need to be on the main roster, some
people and maybe the NIL the ID program that need

(19:47):
to be an NXT. Like they got a whole ecosystem
now in WW. They got a whole system in WW,
and that includes TNA by the way, and it will
include I think Triple A two in Mexico. Yeah, so
if you're talking about Triple A literally being a triple
A for WW, not just in name, but like and
kind of like a baseball system, and Nick, you know
what I'm talking about as far as like how a

(20:09):
minor league system works where person gets drafted then a
rookie ball. I don't know, didn't even do rookie ball anymore,
the short season. But they have like single A, Double A,
Triple A, right, you have single, double A Advanced.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
They have different classes and single A. So there's like
a low okay, low maybe high as well.

Speaker 1 (20:29):
Yeah, low A high A one.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
Actually a couple of teams in Clearwater.

Speaker 1 (20:35):
Yeah, you have to triple you have to double A
and double A advanced.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
Yeah, like Lakewood. They have one in Jersey.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
So yeah, that's a single A team. Double A is Clearwater,
Triple A is reading the.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
Reading, triple A is, yes, Lehigh Valley. But they have
a low A in a clear.

Speaker 1 (20:54):
Water clear Water. Yes, that's what it is. Okay, So
Clearwater is the low A. They's double A, right.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
The double as of Redding. They're still in Redding, okay,
So low A is okay, so fighting fills, yes, the
Redding fighting fills.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
You get the Leigh Valley Iron Pigs. So this is
how much I know about? Yeah, well, the name of
minor league baseball teams on here. I used to do
the minor league report for the Philly dot Com the day, right,
so I used to always be entertained by the minor
league team names like the Aberdeen rubber Ducks something like that,
the Batavia Bats. I don't know if that team even
exists anymore, but but essentially WW has recreated that within

(21:30):
their own company.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
And can you know call the shots basically.

Speaker 1 (21:36):
Yeah, and move people in and out as they kind
of see fit. You see what unfortunately see with football teams,
people get cut. In baseball, people get released, and that sucks,
but that's the system that they've kind of created in
ww now, people get moved up, people get moved out,
and that's kind of how they do things. But it

(21:59):
sucks thill still because this is these are human beings
at the end of the day. But another Friday bit
of news that again came out this past Friday was
that first reported, i should say, by the Philadelphia Inquirer,
was that AEW is holding a Yes, breaking news by
the Philadelphia Choir, aaw All Elite Wrestling holding a residency

(22:23):
at the twenty three hundred Arena in South Philadelphia from
August twenty seventh to September eleventh. How about that two
weeks pretty much of a w wrestling at the twenty
three hundred Arena. It starts to get on the twenty
seventh with dynamite, but there will be dynamite in collisions
and a Ring of Honor show death before designor on

(22:44):
September fifth. So how about that you're excited for that.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
What's that before or after? I guess all In is
in July, right, so.

Speaker 1 (22:55):
Yeah, so this would be after all In. Yeah, this
would be after all. This is at August, so we're talking.
I don't know what specific pay per view it's been
leading up to, but yeah, this is August. It's to September,
so in total loose according to a w's graphic here,
we're looking at three, looking at six a W shows,
it's gonna be three dynamized, three collisions, and a death
before Donna, So seven shows and shows in total death

(23:19):
before four designers in the middle. That's in September. Fifth.

Speaker 2 (23:23):
Forbidden Door is August twenty fourth, so it's after that.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
Okay, so we're getting all the Forbidden.

Speaker 2 (23:31):
Door after Forbidden Door.

Speaker 1 (23:34):
That's what it sounds like right here in South Philadelphia.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
According to good old Wikipedia. But yeah, the next pay
per view after Forbidden Door is to be announced, so
they don't have anything yet after that August pay per view.

Speaker 1 (23:49):
So and there's no there's no all out this year,
which is nobody misses all out, So there's that at all.
There's that, but you're excited for aw here for two
weeks pretty much. I am looking forward to shoot some content,
so highlight me. Aw, we got some stuff to do.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
It's good for you. I guess.

Speaker 1 (24:11):
We got some business to talk about.

Speaker 2 (24:12):
I would be watching a lot of old school wrestling,
I'm sure, so.

Speaker 1 (24:18):
If you're in the Philly area, make sure to slide.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
I consume way more old content nowadays than I ever have,
So I'm just not nothing's hitting me. None of the
wrestling is hitting me. Kind of sucks. I'm not saying
I'm to blame. I'm sure for some of it, but
it's just like.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
I mean, you're not.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
Hangover w W isn't really hitting on all cylinders right now.
We still haven't had a month from like the whole
like seeing Punk Seth Rollins, Roman Reins Punk Seth Rolins,
not Seth Rollins Rollins, I should say since then. We've
seen Seth Rollins and bron Breaker since then, and Paul
Hayman of course. But yeah, it's not like it's set

(25:03):
in the ward on Fire. We got Scena versus Orton
again at Backlash, probably for the last time.

Speaker 2 (25:10):
I guess I'm okay with the story they're telling with Sena,
but I just didn't want to see it, So it
doesn't like I'm not interested by it. I'm just kind
of waiting for it to be over already, like you know,
they like it doesn't get me excited. They can have
as many promos as they want back and forth. Ultimately,
is John Cena versus Randy Orton in twenty twenty five

(25:31):
and it's just like, Okay, clearly Randy Orton's not gonna
beat John Cena, and if he does, they're gonna give
seed it like another rain down the road. And for eighteen,
he's gonna probably be Orton. You know, they're probably probably
gonna do stuff like that. So I'm like, doesn't Cody's
been absent from TV. It's like that's going on with that,

(25:52):
Like is he taking a break or like is he
heard or what? Probably take?

Speaker 1 (25:56):
The thing is Backlash is also Saturday, so it came
up pretty quick after WrestleMania, so they throw a card together.

Speaker 2 (26:04):
Damn yeah, I'll see. I'm just so like, I guess
it was the plus I hated how WrestleMania ended, so
really everybody went out of my salesman. I'm just the
Jay with the Jay and logan. Paul doesn't really hit
me Gunthor and Pat McAfee doesn't really hit me. Ae

(26:26):
W stuff isn't really hitting for me. So it's like
it kind of sucks for me personally that I'm not
taking enjoyment out of it. I know I can be.
I know, like maybe I'm just looking at it differently.
It could be baseball season picked up, so I'm more
you know, paying attention to the Phillies night in and
night out, so I'm not watching as much intently, and

(26:49):
it's just you know, I'm watching on mute and I'm
just not seeing things that grab my attention, you know.
So you know, it's stuff that I can work on
for sure, But I think overall mainstream wrestling product is
just not for me right now.

Speaker 1 (27:05):
Hopefully it gets better. I mean WrestleMania wasn't a good
indicator that's be the best.

Speaker 2 (27:09):
I'm watching every week. You know, it's like I have
roll on right now. I had it all last week,
even though I missed the opening segment, So I think
like the Sammy's Ain stuff is more interesting than me,
just because I think he missed because he missed WrestleMania
and now he's back and he's like there every week
and I'm kind of interested to see where they go
with him in this story with Seth Rollins and Jay

(27:31):
Usso and if they will kind of tweak his character
a little bit. Will he become a world heavyweight champion
at some point? I think he will. It's just I
kind of want to see that now because nothing is
really exciting to me, So I kind of want them
to speed through some of this stuff. And I know
that's not fair as well. So yeah, I'm just kind
of biding my time. I guess.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
Just be glad you're not spending forty thousand dollars with
tickets like some people have.

Speaker 2 (27:59):
Yeah, that too too, with like the whole uh some
of the w W stuff, like the releases are just
another part of the story. But like some of the
some of the things we're hearing, it just kind of
takes the wind down of your sales.

Speaker 1 (28:13):
That's fair. That's fair, especially especially them ticket prices, oh lord, yeah,
and ticket bracket.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
They're not gonna come back down once the man goes
down because they're too high.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
I mean, yeah, they are insane. I mean the Summer
Slam tickets are insane. I apparently heard. But we'll see,
We'll see you know which I don't know. We'll see,
we will see, but we saw Springs Dampede nineteen ninety seven.
For this week's deep dive, Are you ready to dive

(28:48):
deep into World Championship Wrestling from nineteen ninety seven.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
Always then.

Speaker 4 (28:55):
In w W Springs Stampede, the streets will be clear
when Dime and Dallas Page calls out Randy Savage.

Speaker 3 (29:02):
Don't forget to bring your little bimbo legs.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
Oh Man, what you say, We'll take it down, brothers.

Speaker 1 (29:11):
It's gonna be the style of No, it won't. Coducer
says there'll be.

Speaker 4 (29:15):
A new sheriff in the town when she takes out
a Carol Hoskuto from the w c W Women's World title.
Prince Iokay will attempt to brand Lord Stephen a loser,
and then all the gold is up for grabs when
Champion Dean Malingo.

Speaker 1 (29:30):
I'm giving you an opportunity has.

Speaker 4 (29:31):
A standoff with Horseman Brisbin Wak for so up and
threw itself out for the w c W U S title.
And in the final showdown before the fine match, we'll
have Lex Luger, the Giant and Harlem Heat gunning for
a chance of bringing home the w c W World
title from Hollywood.

Speaker 1 (29:49):
Hogan, he ain't here c W string stand. Oh yeah, yep,
it's here. Who got the juices flowing? Man?

Speaker 2 (30:18):
Let's go Spring Stampede in three years?

Speaker 1 (30:22):
Man, I got excited all over again. Good job, Tony
Shavanni Man. Even though this show wasn't that good to me.
But it's all right, it's all right.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
It was perfect what it needed to be.

Speaker 1 (30:35):
I guess it moved along some stories, yes, yes, because
I ain't gonna lie to you. I struggled with the show,
kind of trying to fit into our format of the
match of the night, worst match of the night. It's like,
what was the best match? Actually okay, but what was
the actual worst match?

Speaker 2 (30:51):
It was just like.

Speaker 1 (30:53):
I got my top non wrestling happening down before I
even watched the show. I knew what that was gonna be,
so we're gonna talk all about it. But like, what
was the worst non wrestling I don't, I don't know.
And then like hidden it was just this is a
struggle a little bit.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
Yeah, no hitting gym for me, I'll put that out.

Speaker 1 (31:09):
None, okay, no hitting gym. I tried. I tried.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
It's just nothing was hidden to me. It was like
either normal or okay, you know it wasn't it?

Speaker 1 (31:21):
Just nothing really, I mean I will talk about it,
but nothing really like just jumped out to me during
this show. But there was a show. It was Spring Stampede.
It took place April sixth, nineteen ninety seven. As you
heard Tony Shavanni say, the show emanated from the Tupelo
Colosseum in Tupelo, Mississippi. Uh and I spoke my nose.

(31:43):
Wis W used to run every show they could, any
town they could in the South, all right, and not
only that, they would running for pay per views. Right?
Who would think they put a pay per view on Tupelo, Mississippi,
You know what I'm saying. Buts W did, And I'm
thinking of like where raw is tonight as we record this.
They're in Omaha, nebrass Omaha should be damn lucky to
have a RAW because they're not getting a pay per view. Okay.

(32:05):
They showed a clip of la for like they promoted
the World's Collide event that they're going to have the
into a dome, and then they showed a photo or
a pan of like Omaha, Nebraska, and it's like, wow,
that's night and Day. And I know which city is
getting a bigger show in which city is getting a
whole hum episode of Monday Night Raw. But here we

(32:25):
are in Tupelo, Mississippi, UH in nineteen ninety seven at
the Tupelo Colisseum UH for another edition of Springsteen Pede.
The building, by the way, Tupelo Colisseum is now known
as the Cadence Bank Arena. In case you were still wondering,
it is still an operation here, still in operation. It
hosted WW Uncensored in nineteen ninety five and nineteen ninety six,

(32:49):
So how about that first there you go, even though
nothing was really uncensored on this show, but here it
was uncensored. But as you said earlier, this is the
first Springstampede since nineteen ninety four. That was the only
Spring Stampede by the way. I don't know why they
kind of went away with it, went away from it,
at least I know in ninety five and around this

(33:11):
time they did Collision in Korea in nexte ninety five,
which had its own dark side of the ring episode,
so that should be an indication of how that show went.
And then in ninety six, they didn't do an April show.
They had a show in May, and that was of
course Slamboree. So for some reason they just get past
the two years and here we are back again in

(33:31):
nineteen ninety seven with a terrible tagline. By the way,
I don't know if you's so long, the longest wordiest
tagline in history, which is and I quote, these men
do solemnly swear dot dot dot to kick, fight, punch, stomp,

(33:53):
and flatten anyone or anybody, I should say, who get
in their way. That's like, like, what why is it
so long? That's horrible?

Speaker 2 (34:05):
I don't understand their taglines in this spirit. It was
like the worst part of the.

Speaker 1 (34:10):
Obviously the marketing. What no way, I mean.

Speaker 2 (34:16):
Market men do solemnly swear and then he can fill
in the blanks man like to.

Speaker 1 (34:20):
Just beat, just just stomp, just flatten anyone in a
way like just shorten it, please make it more punchy.
No one believed in punchiness. And w's w they didn't
have like a whole paragraph as a tagline for some reason,
And wonder why nobody ordered the show? What this pay
per view? Uh? In particular, though it's known for its
main event, which is Diamond Dallas Page going against Randy

(34:44):
Savage uh in a grudge match no titles on the line,
But however, it's also known for when Booker T cussed
out Haul Cogan and one of the funniest moments in wrestling.
I know, book T, that's that's what he said on Peacock,

(35:09):
but we all know what he really said. I'm not
going to repeat the promo overbatim, but we're not going
to play it on the air. But you know what
promo I'm talking about. We all know. We all know.
There's a clip I don't know if you ever heard
it of like Patrise O'Neill, who's Rest the Soul. It

(35:31):
is a great comedian back in the day. I don't
know if you ever heard of him, but he talks
about this clip, this promo on a radio show and
it's so funny because the other people he's talking about
it with never saw it, and man, it's hilarious. And
that's what that's part of the reason why. I think
that's part of the reason why. Obviously the promo self
is like stands on its own, but I think the

(35:53):
reaction over the years to it as people unearthed. It
has been like, what did he say in one of
the wildest moments in wrestling history? Honestly, like all of
wrestling history? Was that a wild moment? H But we
got Tony Shavanni, Dusty Rhodes, and Bobby the Brain Heenan

(36:14):
on the call. They start to show by saying that
Scott Hall is missing, oh, just not around, and he
and Kevin Nash were supposed to defend the tag titles
as you heard in that intro against the Steiner Brothers.

Speaker 2 (36:30):
But the tag team that they almost killed a couple
months probably.

Speaker 1 (36:34):
Oh yeah almost they ran off the road, right, vehicular manslaughter. Right,
So we're supposed to get this grudge match on pay
per view, but Scott Hall isn't there. And then because
of that, though, Kevin Nash is, you know, still being
forced to defend the titles by himself. He can't find
a substitute, which is like, that's kind of unfairness, right,

(36:54):
there's so many members of the nWo, he couldn't find
a replacement. He's gonna let him go against the Steiners
by himself. Seems like you putting a talent in a
bad position. Bad promoter. JJ Dillon the bad boss.

Speaker 2 (37:08):
That executive committee is a little shady.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
Yeah, Wilinn, come on now, just say you don't like
the nWo Okay, we get it. We know you don't
like them, but like you can't let the men go
out there and get jumped. I guess they was jumping
people every week, so it's like, there's the turn, It's
Nash's turn. WW, by the way, went all out with
the stage for this show. I don't know if you
got a glimpse at that. Amazing the really really went

(37:36):
into the Western theme. It was almost like they built
like a little like town in this building, like one
of those.

Speaker 2 (37:43):
It was so good that I always would h complain
and back then, you know, or in my head. But
then when I got the Internet, like WW is always
copying the wflah everything I could think of. I honestly
thought in nineteen ninety seven the Canadian Stampede in your

(38:06):
House was just a copy of Spring Stampede.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
I was like, so mad, that's really funny.

Speaker 2 (38:11):
It's no it makes you g.

Speaker 1 (38:13):
That is both companies had a show with Stampede and
the name in the same year, like this, just like
two months apart. I know this is April so I
guess that happened with July. Yep, so we're talking technically
three months apart, I guess, but still in the same year.
Very close to each.

Speaker 2 (38:30):
Other theme too, you know, everything was Western in the
in your House thing as well.

Speaker 1 (38:36):
Well, they added like a couple of hay bales to
the to the stage for the in your House. They
still had the house though, right.

Speaker 2 (38:42):
Yeah they did, and the commentators were there in their
western best.

Speaker 1 (38:45):
Oh yeah, that the cowboy hats and the bowlo ties,
you know, you know, and it did the same thing
on this night it's Spring Stampede. But it was like
a little like western town you go to like a
not a Renaissance fare, but like a Western version of that.
I don't know what they were called, but like you
go off through the town and buy some funnel cake
or something like that. You know, they looked like at

(39:07):
Spring Stampede in the nineteen ninety seven. But yeah, they
really went all out on the Western theme, even though
they were in Mississippi, which is like I guess they
had like, you know, at some point they had buildings
that looked like that, I guess in eighteen hundreds. But
when I think Western, I don't think Mississippi. I think
ok Texas, maybe even Arizona, New Mexico, not Mississippi. But hey,

(39:32):
look I could be wrong. I wasn't there. I'm sure
there are some cowpokes back in the day in Mississippi,
but you know, it's just not top of mind when
I think of the theme that they were going for
on the show.

Speaker 2 (39:46):
But the pay per view opposite of w W Springs
Stampede in April of nineteen ninety seven was wf's Revenge
of the Taker in your House?

Speaker 1 (39:57):
Oh was that when he faced Stieve Auston in the
main event.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
No, that was Cold Day in Hell. So Revenge of
the Taker was Undertaker and Mankind again. And uh, the
main event was actually Bret Hart for Systan Cold Steam Boston.
The winner of that was gonna face the Undertaker in May,
and that I believe it was a DQ finish with
the Heart Foundation coming out and attacking Austin. This was

(40:21):
the Prevenge of the Taker. I did not get. I
don't remember what happened that month, but I was not
allowed to have it. I mean I did. Also was
not allowed to have WrestleMania at thirteen, so I must
have been a bad boy around this time period, because
I must have been grounded. Uh, I don't know why.
I mean, like, I don't really do anything bad when

(40:43):
I was a kids. I must have just founded. Are
you sure I'm positive.

Speaker 1 (40:49):
You're gonna hit him up right now?

Speaker 2 (40:52):
No fights, nothing in bad nothing like bad in school.
I mean I got written up a couple of times,
but nothing like egregious.

Speaker 1 (40:59):
So I mean getting ridden up, it's not great.

Speaker 2 (41:02):
But like not being able to get WrestleMania in March
and then not being able to get Revenge of the Taker.
Oh that was two months back to back. It got me,
good man. So needless to say, when we got cold
Day in Hell in your house in May on Mother's Day,
I was like, over the moon, man.

Speaker 1 (41:22):
Look at that. Look at that. I mean, it all
comes around you. You got your stuff together because I
hear wild.

Speaker 2 (41:29):
Apparently I hear wild.

Speaker 1 (41:31):
In the wintertime, in the early winter months of ninety seven,
and by the spring you had to learn that hard
less than you can't watch WrestleMania. Oh my lord. I
mean it wasn't like it was a.

Speaker 2 (41:42):
Get excited for WrestleMania. But right I wake up and
I'm like, oh, I need to see WrestleMania tonight and
I will find a way to convince my parents. I
didn't obviously, but yeah, it was bad.

Speaker 1 (41:56):
That's tough, man. I'm sorry. I'm sorry to hear that,
but you probably had it coming no less, I'm sure.

Speaker 2 (42:02):
I'm trying to think back of like March ninety seven,
maybe February ninety seven, because I did see Final Four.
I ordered Final Four in your house, and this was
when I could just have one per month, so I
wasn't ordering the w CW ones this early. So yeah,
I was not. I was in sixth grade, so I mean,

(42:25):
I mean.

Speaker 1 (42:25):
It's a time for you to be.

Speaker 2 (42:28):
In sixth grade. Oh my lord, I don't know if that.

Speaker 1 (42:30):
Was bro I heard being a menace and one like
I can't believe they didn't let me watch WrestleMania that year,
like I had been a menace to society and then
gas like your parents like that.

Speaker 2 (42:42):
Copying my classmates homework in front of the teacher, thinking
that she wouldn't notice. God, she just stands up and
comes and grabs the paper and I'm trying to wrestle
it away from her.

Speaker 1 (42:52):
They're gonna have the nerve to be like mom, Dad,
I can't believe you didn't order WrestleMania for me. I'm
trying to see what was this slogan for That was
a shytown he was that that's an nWo show. That Wo,
that's an NWA show. That was shytown heat. This was
just heat. Yeah, before Sunday night heat. I gotta feel
the heat. Mom and Dad, they can't believe. Yeah, I

(43:14):
cheated on my test. Yeah I got got ridden up
a couple of times. But damn it, it's WrestleMania. Gonna
make an exception.

Speaker 2 (43:22):
I mean, I didn't even care about Brett Hart and
Steve Awlson at that time period. I was just it
was WrestleMania, you know, like I've always watched WrestleMania. That
was the first one I missed.

Speaker 1 (43:30):
He just sat in front of the TV expecting it
to be on WrestleMania, just sat there and being like.

Speaker 2 (43:35):
I was watching the freaking We're all like, please, please.

Speaker 1 (43:38):
Look what's going on. It's like, no, you just cheated
on the test last week. Go to your room. Okay,
you're lucky. You're leaving the room right now. Uh. Back
to our deep dive, though, so deep diving into Nick's
life we're gonna deep dive back into Spring Stampede nineteen
ninety seven. Nick, I need to know because I guess

(44:01):
we know where you were in life at that point
in thirty seven. You was out here cheating off people's
tests and getting grounded. It's just homework. It was just home,
just homework. Okay, okay, all right, all right, But let's
get into the format here. Like we said, match of
the night, worst match of the night, top non wrestling happening,
worst non wrestling happening, hidden gems that Nick did not have,

(44:21):
and of course random thoughts. So Nick, I'll start with you.
What was your match of the night from Spring Stampede
nineteen ninety seven?

Speaker 2 (44:31):
Kind Of tough for me just because of the placement,
but I'll go Altimo Dragon versus right mystereo because the
action was great and the only issue I had, And
this coincides with what my honorable mention for well, actually
it is my worst non wrestling happening. Cutting away from
that match to go into back to give a crap

(44:53):
what Lee Marshall the same wants to talk to Kevin
Nash about the tag title, Like I just so off
putting and I didn't realize how much I didn't like
that in the moment. You know, they would do stuff
like that on TV here and there, but like when
you're on pay per view and you're doing that during

(45:15):
an Ultimate Dragon Ramisterio match, that's just bad man, that's bad.
That pissed me off. So I'm like, okay, well, that's
the worst non wrestling happening. It was cutting to Lee Marshall,
not once, but twice. They did it during the match,
and they did it after the match. It does lead
into my other top non wrestling happening. But during this match,
the best match of the night, and you have the

(45:35):
worst non wrestling happening. Just pissed me off. So I
think Ultimate Dragon versus Raypisterio, based on the action and everything,
was my best match of the night. I do the
main event is up there. It is my honorable mention
because I love everything that happened at the main event too.

Speaker 1 (45:52):
I agree with well, I disagree with twith match of
the night. To me, it's the main event, But I
can talk about that in a second. I do have
raymis to an Ultimate Dragon as my honorable mention, But
you did mention the worst NNE wrestling happening, So I
guess let's just talk about announced. We're talking about this match, uh,
in particular, again during the Ultimal Dragon Ultimate Dragon Ray

(46:12):
Mysterio match, they cut to the back, uh because they
had to hear what Kevin Nash had to say about
the tag title. So Lee Marshall is knocking on Kevin
Nash's locker room door for an interview mid match, and
they cut away and they didn't even do a double
screen or did a full screen.

Speaker 2 (46:29):
To Lee Marshall, they did like a full screen, but
I think they eventually did a split screen. But split
screen Lee was bigger than the match.

Speaker 1 (46:38):
Yes, it was the most important thing on the screen
at that time, the most prominent thing on the screen.
And then not only did they do that, they we
don't even get to hear from Nash. We get to
hear from Sean Waltman at first, and we can't even
hear what the hell he is saying, And even he announces,
like what do you say?

Speaker 2 (46:55):
He said like about a WCW shill That's all I
can make out. And I think, look, it was more
like we're not talking with a duble, stuffy shill type thing,
is what I think.

Speaker 1 (47:04):
He said, if the announcers can't hear it, it wasn't
and then something was wrong man, Like, clearly I wasn't
alone in that.

Speaker 2 (47:12):
We have Okay, let's let's let's see if I'm.

Speaker 3 (47:15):
Sorry, I'm sorry to interrupt you.

Speaker 1 (47:16):
We talked about the demand by Kevin Nash.

Speaker 2 (47:18):
The top of the broadcast.

Speaker 1 (47:20):
Lee Marshall is.

Speaker 5 (47:20):
Back in the locker room.

Speaker 1 (47:21):
Mary, let's go to Lee right now calling the story. Lee,
go ahead, Tony, thank you very much. You're right.

Speaker 3 (47:25):
They have promised to be an interview at least a
statement of fact from Kevin Nash, hopefully.

Speaker 2 (47:30):
Statement of fact, right, mister n I hate that.

Speaker 1 (47:35):
Well six, I'm sorry sending for Kevin Nash d the
man that he wanted to air publicly, and.

Speaker 3 (47:42):
Because you see what you should you wait a minute.

Speaker 1 (47:47):
Speak up. I'm sorry. We'll try to get something a
little bit later on.

Speaker 2 (47:50):
Back to you go.

Speaker 1 (47:51):
What did he say? I have no idea what he
said like that, no idea what he'd said, So that
was a waste of time. Then they went back to
the locker room during the Mysterio Ultimate Dragon match. Again.
This is during the first match, which for Nick was
the best match of the show my honorable mention. Waltman
answered again, but before you knew it, the Steiners interrupted.

(48:13):
The Steiners were there because they wanted to know what
was up, like what was because I think Kevin Nash
had had like some condition that he wanted for the
tag title match that everyone wanted to know, including the Steiners,
and they wanted an answer right then and there. And
you can see like Nash in the room behind Waltman,
you know, he's like kind of peeking over Waltman. And
then Kevin Nash demands that Nick Patrick gets the reft

(48:35):
for the match and then tells the security to keep
the Steiners back before he spits on Scott Steiner, which
is oh, nasty, disgusting. And then Scott Steiner didn't Rifley
loses his mind, but before he could really do anything,
the cops just makes them right in the face, pow
right in the face, which is wild, and then then
the rest of him and hauled him off the jail. Meanwhile,

(48:59):
he was the one that spat on and they're like, oh,
you're not going to react right in this space. That's
is innocent, right, He's not gonna arrest him at all.

Speaker 2 (49:10):
He didn't provoke him.

Speaker 1 (49:12):
No, no provocation whatsoever. Scott, You're you're out of control.
Here's some mace and some handcuffs for your troubles. Get out.
So now I don't know why they didn't just wait
until the match was over to do this whole thing.
I didn't think they'll need to, you know, cut in
mid match. I felt like you said, that was kind

(49:33):
of like borderline disrespectful. But instead Steiner is haled off
to jail, making the tag title match one on one
now because that makes sense, you.

Speaker 2 (49:45):
Know, WCW man. It was like making a decision that
you just made no one. They're so hot, so no
one cares, or they don't think anyone cares. I thought
it was stupid to have a singles match for a
tag team title one and they did it again the
next year. They had like Sting versus the Giant because
they were tag team champs and whoever won became the

(50:08):
tag team champions on their own. It was so them
and these tag team championship angles, they're with that type
of bulking.

Speaker 1 (50:19):
But with that said, though, Raybis still on Ultimore Dragon.
Very good match banger for sure. I don't want to
overlook them and not give them their flowers as well.
They put forth their effort and they did what they
were supposed to do, and they did a really good
job at it as they usually did, you know, per usual.
But my match at the night was the main event,

(50:41):
Randy Savage versus Diamond Dallas Page in the grudge match
between these two they've been feuding for a long time.
Even though the women got involved. We got Kimberly in
ddp's corner and Miss Elizabeth and Randy Savage's corner. They
got physical in the match. It was wild, but it
was interesting to see, Uh. Savage get like a gold
like entrance with Miss Elizabeth and he's talking in the hallway.

Speaker 2 (51:05):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (51:05):
And during his interest there were like some little girls
in the aisle for some reason, like what were they
there for? They didn't mention him.

Speaker 2 (51:13):
No idea. They were standing outside the guard rail. So
it was like just I'm watching this. And by the way,
this is one of my top non wrestling happenings where
Randy Savage notices them. Ye stops dead in his tracks,
stares at him, flexes his muscle, and then walks into

(51:38):
the ring like what.

Speaker 1 (51:40):
I'm bigger, stronger, You don't trotting around here.

Speaker 2 (51:42):
I want to know what was going through his head
right now. Look be like one of you better not
be DDP, you know because Laparca, you know, got him
DDP is Laparka got ready savage. I think it was
before this, you know, with the diamond cutter dressed as
Laparka is probably trying to make sure one of those
two girls were not DDP.

Speaker 1 (52:04):
Right now a disguise. Man, you don't know where they're
coming from.

Speaker 2 (52:07):
But that's flex was like.

Speaker 1 (52:11):
Little girl, you can get these hands, Little girl, if
you mess around and try to diamond cut to me,
better watch out. I know, d just paranoid, Randy.

Speaker 2 (52:21):
You didn't even say anything.

Speaker 1 (52:24):
It's strange. It's very strange. I don't know what. They
didn't explain why they were there, what purpose, and they
were just there. They weren't like behind the guardrail. They
had no purpose. They were literally just standing there and
Machra man reacts, what what're you gonna do? Like, I'm
surprised he didn't like try to fight him or something like,
you know, you know, Macha ma can get so it

(52:48):
was like, what's going on? Yeah, that was weird, But
the match itself a lot of fun and then it
was weird at times. I don't know, it was just
a lot of stuff going on, so like we had
Bruce or not Bruce Buffer. Michael Buffer actually let me
go back to Kimberly actually cut a good promo before
the match, by the way, but Kimberly made a really
good job with her promo before the match. Michael Buffer

(53:12):
does the entrances, does his catchphrase after the entrances though, right,
they usually do the catch phrase before anybody comes to
the ring, Let's get ready to rumble. He did it
after the entrances and then they shot up Pyro while
Machramn and DDP were in the ring, and it's like,
why are they doing this for a non title match?
Even like it's weird, but yeah, the fans were hot.

(53:36):
They fight into the stance, they fight near the stage,
both of the both Liz and Kimberly get involved, and
then Savage just went crazy and started slapping everybody inside.

Speaker 2 (53:49):
I was cracking up because I'm like, yeah, there's no
he was slapping David Penzer and a camera guy or something,
and it's like, Michael Buffer's right there. He would not
touch him. He did not from him.

Speaker 1 (54:07):
He slapped his taste out of uh Dave, Dave Penzer,
Mark Curtis right, but then he Michael Michael Buffer checks
on Dave Penzer, but Savage did not touch Michael Buffer
because that would have cost w an extra million dollars
to get slapped by Randy Savage. And it's like, nah,
we get you, okay, Michael Right. We're not paying him

(54:29):
for the year as much as we're paying you tonight,
so it's all right. But yeah, like you said, Savage
slapped the referee to slapped slapping people, not punching slapping people,
and then hits him with a pile driver and then
took off his belt and then whipped him with his
own belt.

Speaker 2 (54:48):
That pile driver looks stiff too. I was like, oh,
I hope Mark's okay. Good lord man, he sold that
like crazy.

Speaker 1 (54:56):
He was just slapping people left and right. Nick Patrick
comes out and Kevin Nash comes out. Mind you, we
didn't talk about Kevin Nash's match yet earlier in the night,
but the one on one match he has with Rick Steiner,
which was largely an angle honestly.

Speaker 2 (55:13):
But gloried squash really.

Speaker 1 (55:16):
Pretty much, and it being contended for worse match of
the night. I understand if that's the case, but it
was at least it was a story told with it,
I guess right. And the story was that Kevin Nash
was beating the daylights out of Rick Steiner, exposed the
turn buckle and dropped him repeatedly on a turn buckle,
and Nick Patrick and Ted DIBIASU, who are I mean?
Ted Debiasti's with Nash and Nick Patrick is an nWo referee.

(55:39):
They're both like, all right, that's enough, Like we're good now,
And Kevin Nash is like what since when know we
like the nice guy? Since when we have morals like
I'll tell you what it's enough, bro, don't tell me
what to do. And now this friction. So now Nick
Patrick is feeling the type of way about how much
you know he has a heart apparently even though even

(56:00):
seen people get jumped and spray painted it for years
at this point, at least months at this point, I
should say. But now it's like, ah, this is too much.
So he's having sex.

Speaker 2 (56:10):
It's not you know, anyone else, it's Rick Steiner.

Speaker 1 (56:13):
He's Rick Steiner, right, And eventually kimberly so Nick Patrick
comes out with Kevin Nash, and then DDP reverses Savage
a Savage had him picked up for a slam. DDP
reverses Savage into the Diamond Cutter, and the crowd erupted, like, wow,
what a pop for that diamond cutter. Just what a

(56:34):
snapshot of how over DDP was ninety seven and ninety eight?

Speaker 2 (56:38):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (56:38):
Nick Patrick? Then you know, DDP covered Savage and Nick
Patrick got down and covered and counted to three. Immediately
bam bam bam matches over and then Kevin Nash's like, hey, yo,
he's supposed to be our referee. And then Nick Patrick
immediately got down to counter three. You didn't hesitate. He hesitated
when it came to Kevin Nash when he was penning

(57:01):
Rick Steiner. He said one, I don't want to do it,
and then Kevin Nash is like, you better do it
all right? Two three, he's done. But this time he's
like one, two three, he's done. Savage loses, and Kevin
Nash was upset because you know, Mike nick Patrick works
for the nWo. What you doing out here? And then
the whole crew comes out, The whole New War Order
comes out. Sands Hawk Hogan of course, because you know

(57:24):
he ain't working Spring Stampede, even though he's.

Speaker 2 (57:28):
The world Champe of the Taker.

Speaker 1 (57:31):
He might be, he might have been. We don't know,
because he wasn't at Spring Stampede. We know that much.
But the rest of the nWo comes out and they're
all fired up about what's happening, and the fans are like, hey,
give us Sting. We want Sting now, and Sting can't
show up. Instead, we saw Kevin Nash power bomb Nick
Patrick to oblivion.

Speaker 2 (57:53):
And then flailing his arms and legs. Makes me laugh.
They definitely out I want to be flailing around, but.

Speaker 1 (58:04):
Right, but you gotta sell it, man, you gotta sell
it for the people up top. Even in the last
road of the building, they didn't jump on DDP for
a little bit before they go after Kimberly.

Speaker 5 (58:14):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (58:14):
But Eric Pushoff this is where he draws the line.
He's like, hey, hey, whoa, whoa whoa. You know, even
even eb Go told Eric Pushoff has boundaries, you know.
And then Randy Savage and retaliation shoves Eric Bischoff's and
he shoves Savage back, and then Savage socked Eric Bischoff
one good time. He popped him, pop, get out of here,
what you're talking about. I think Savage thought he's really

(58:36):
fighting and all the NW at home homies hopping the
ring and break it.

Speaker 2 (58:40):
Up, and it looked real. It was so clustery.

Speaker 1 (58:43):
Look he got him one good time.

Speaker 2 (58:45):
I thought, that's what I was like, Man, I don't know,
like if that was supposed to happen, or if Freddy's
get you know, you get backstage and he's like, I
was just trying to make it look real, brother, n
he did, he said, bop looked real for me, like
Bishop out right back up. You know you would think
he would, you know, sell it a little bit. I

(59:05):
don't know, but he got right back up and one
after Randy and I was.

Speaker 1 (59:08):
Like, oh that bishoff bishof the karate man. He's tough,
but we didn't get take a punch.

Speaker 2 (59:14):
I guess we shouldn't expect that from like him, come
bouncing right back up from Mirandy. Savage shot.

Speaker 1 (59:21):
You know that's fair, that's fair. But the nw A
bickering in the ring. It's pretty much how we went
off the air. Uh So that wasn't like the greatest ending,
but it was kind of exciting to see Eric Bischoff
get socked in the face like that because you know,
you know, but but yeah, my uh, I should say
my honorable mention I should say is Mysterio versus Ultimate Dragon.

(59:44):
I put in my notes that they nearly got fifteen
minutes and w's wi just let them go ham for
fifteen minutes. It's like, do what you want and we
might cut away, we might not even watch you guys.
But they did warm up the crowd real nice for
the rest of the show, which is what they were
supposed to do. But Nick, what was your worst match?

(01:00:05):
I go to the other side of the corner. Unfortunately,
when there's a best as a worst. What was the
worst match at Springstampede nineteen ninety seven?

Speaker 2 (01:00:14):
Uh? I feel this way only because I thought the
action was bad a Kira Jokto and Medusa. It was
my worst match, just you know, no story and a
bad story and the announcers are trying, but like I
just can't get it. But I felt the same way

(01:00:36):
about Mango and Jared versus Public Enemy Man, like that
was just there. But I feel like you had the
table spots, like people you know, pop for that. What
they didn't pop for was Public Enemy winning, which is
I did think it was weird. But you know that's
the only reason why that's my honorable mention, because we
actually got like a crowd reaction. It's not very many

(01:01:00):
people cared. Ludif Sean came in or wearing Hookatel and Medusa,
so Sady getting involved and beating up Medusa did leave
us with this gem from body heat.

Speaker 3 (01:01:13):
Now, okay, there you go, so can he left at
the time the man, I'm okay, I'm wearing glass.

Speaker 2 (01:01:21):
He needs a whipping.

Speaker 1 (01:01:22):
He's a whipping.

Speaker 5 (01:01:24):
A person wearing glasses.

Speaker 2 (01:01:27):
And you don't smack a female either.

Speaker 1 (01:01:29):
Brain okay, I don't want to.

Speaker 2 (01:01:35):
Sonny Yoo sitting there hitting Medusa. Padusa fights back and
all he's first response is he's wearing glasses.

Speaker 1 (01:01:43):
That was kind of wild. Somebody like that, that's kind
of wild. I agree with you, and that I had
a tie honestly for the worst match.

Speaker 2 (01:01:51):
I mean I had a tie, and I.

Speaker 1 (01:01:55):
Know that's cheating and it's not the Public Enemy match.
The Public Enemy match at least had some action as
much as it wasn't. It wasn't like a pretty match whatsoever.
And but I also couldn't just put you know after
he just passed away Mongo and the worst Match of
the Knight category, uh and a lot of people in
that match have passed on Mongo, h Johnny Grunge, Rock

(01:02:18):
a Rock and you know, if you want to go
to commentary, Dusty Rhodes and Bobby the Brain Heaton too.
But and it had the crazy vision of Rock a
Rock waying to do rag and you know all the
shenanigans that happened. Someone got tossed to the covered wagon.
You know, at least it was like some nonsense to
finish was garbage. But you know, Dusty Rose got a

(01:02:41):
funding comment in about the cow they knocked over, said
the cow died, you know, so at least it was that.
But my tie, honestly for a worst match of the
Knight was the Woman's title match because it just wasn't
like I would put my nose, It wasn't overly offensive,
just not that good. And sanny Ono hitting Medusa hasn't
necessarily aged well, even though he barely touched her in reality.

(01:03:02):
But my matches I tied this with and I don't
know if this is a hot take, but I'm gonna
say it. It's the four corners match bro for the
number one contender spot for the world title.

Speaker 2 (01:03:13):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (01:03:14):
So here's the problem with this match. A lot of
a lot of the fans were into it. The problem
was there was a lot of posturing and fan engagement,
not a ton of wrestling, not a tond of good
wrestling in this match, a lot of standing around getting
the crowd excited. And there's one of those matches where
everybody had to tag in. It wasn't like everybody's fighting
all at once, So they had a little bit of
standoff with like Harlem Heat, not even like Lex Lugan

(01:03:37):
and Giant went against each other. They tagged out immediately.
Harlem Heat fought each other for a little bit, and
the fans are like, oh yay, little bit, but like,
don't work against each other, brothers, Yeah, wee brothers, brothers.
That's exactly what they want you to do. Work against
each other. We gotta work together, brothers. Working against each
other exactly what the man I want you to do.

(01:04:00):
Look at what a Giant and Lex Luga were while
the two brothers are fighting each other, just watching, just watching. Uh.
But yeah, just a lot of posturing, a lot of
just like hanging out for a long time. It's one
of the longest matches on the show too, it might
be the longest eighteen minutes. So yeah, just a lot
of posturing and stuff like that. And then for some reason,

(01:04:22):
the Giant just lets Lex Luga win the match by
putting Stevie Ray in the torture.

Speaker 2 (01:04:26):
Uh, that's part of the story where the Giants selfless whatever.

Speaker 1 (01:04:32):
They don't take the match, then do you want to
win or not?

Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
Technically his best friend won, so it's like he won.

Speaker 1 (01:04:41):
Get out of here.

Speaker 2 (01:04:42):
He gained the trust of WCW.

Speaker 1 (01:04:46):
Just win the title, bro, don't get off the match.

Speaker 2 (01:04:48):
Then, well that's what he did.

Speaker 1 (01:04:50):
Somebody else could be in the matches that actually wants
to win. You just here to hang out and try
to curry favor with somebody. Be my friend. Get out
the way, bro, this is we're trying win the world
title here. Look Booker T. Look at Booker T and
Stevie Ray. They actual blood brothers, and it was.

Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
Like, we want to win colors though for the first time.

Speaker 1 (01:05:09):
Yeah, but like why they.

Speaker 2 (01:05:10):
Wearing different colors because.

Speaker 1 (01:05:12):
They were against each other technically technically technically, but like
they are blood brothers and they had to you know,
do a little something against each other for a little bit.
You're not blood with Lex Luger broken out of here,
beat him.

Speaker 2 (01:05:28):
What I don't understand is I think Booker is the
one or the Stevie Ray is the one that tagged
Lex from behind for him to get in, and while
the Giant was in the ring, Booker T shoved at
the Giant from behind. Why wasn't that a tag Like
if you're if Stevie Ran could do that, then you
should let Booker T come in after he did that,

(01:05:49):
and so it should have never been the Giant versus
Lex Luger in there.

Speaker 1 (01:05:53):
It was just it was just I don't know, it
just it bored me, honestly, it really bored me. And
it shouldn't have because you got Stevie and Booker T
Hall of Famers, Giant, Hall of Famer, Lex Luga just
win in the Hall of Fame this year, so all
talented people in the ring. It's just like, what are
we doing? Can y'all get going? Already get the match going?

(01:06:14):
But they just didn't really happen for me.

Speaker 2 (01:06:17):
I don't think anyone bought wanting to see Booker T
versus Hall Coogar or Stevie right versus Hall cookin either.

Speaker 1 (01:06:23):
That's also fair. That's also fair. It's not like they
did a lot to build up either one of you know,
members of the Harlem Heat Booker T or Stevie ready
to be like in a position the way they can
win the world title. Had Bookt even won the TV
title yet?

Speaker 2 (01:06:37):
No, that was a year a year after that.

Speaker 1 (01:06:42):
So that's a fair critique because it wasn't like people
were really buying them to to win. It was really
about either Giant or Lex Lugar. But it's really about
Lex Luga because Giant was trying to misterprove himself over
here man to w c W. I want my contrary,
I want my promotion bag. All right, let's transition to

(01:07:08):
our top non wrestling happening. I will start this soft
because it is what I consider the latest episode or
maybe the first episode that we could know of on
television of when Keeping It Real Goes wrong. I don't
know if you ever watched Appel Show, but they had
a segment, recurring segment what they called it been Keeping

(01:07:32):
It Real Goes Wrong, and it was some classic segments,
some classic skits involving people who kept it too real
and lost everything. Well, in this case, Booker T didn't
lose everything, but he kept it really real though a
little too real, a little too real. So of course
we're talking about Booker T's promo, which is on Peacock.

(01:07:52):
I hadn't. I forgot what show that that promo happened at.
So when I realized that this was the show Springs
Damp ninety seven was to show that this happened, I
was like, Wow, this is gonna be great to talk about.
And then you find an edited version of the promo
on Peacock instead of you know, you know what.

Speaker 2 (01:08:15):
You know?

Speaker 1 (01:08:16):
Uh? Do we have that promo, by the way, the
whole one. Let's let's hear Booker T at Springs Damp
nineteen ninety seven edited by the way, edited on Peacock.

Speaker 5 (01:08:27):
I want at this time to have come on in
if you would, Sister Sherry boker T.

Speaker 1 (01:08:32):
Sister Sherry is great, by the way.

Speaker 5 (01:08:34):
A match that really is turning out to be something else,
because I guess of the high stakes. The winner of
this one getting a shot at Hollywood Hall Cogan and
the WCW Heavyweight Championship of the World. The winner of
this four corner match between Lexloger the Giant. These two
men here tonight, indeed is a big, big match in
all of their careers. However, I should plant out for

(01:08:56):
the record something different. The way you win this one
is with the first pan or the first submission. And
Sister Sherry, you may be directing Traffee. It's conceivable these
two men will face each other.

Speaker 6 (01:09:08):
We have everything planned out. We have our strategy down
to a minute point. It doesn't matter apparently not in
there together, because we have a plan for that too.
You sure have gone over and over and over again,
and no matter which one's in there, we're behind the other,

(01:09:28):
divide and conquer.

Speaker 1 (01:09:30):
They didn't plan for the Giant, were not wanting to win.

Speaker 5 (01:09:32):
The match is here tonight, and I expect the same
thing is gonna happen in this fourth quarter.

Speaker 1 (01:09:36):
Mat tell you.

Speaker 3 (01:09:37):
Something, No, can you out of this touch but a
click click, But it's the hallow heat, it's just the chair, see,
because what you're dealing with, Hill, it's the brotherhood. It's
none stop from this point on.

Speaker 1 (01:09:49):
Yeah, Brooke, w we take what we won't uh huh,
we wont the goal, Sucker, We're coming for you, sucker.

Speaker 5 (01:09:59):
Record stud Look, we're talking about the rack luger and
what about the choke slam of the giant. These are
the things you're gonna have to deal with tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:10:09):
Great edited by w W What about the heat secret?
What about the time winfernel?

Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
I don't see nobody talking about that.

Speaker 1 (01:10:16):
You think we came out.

Speaker 3 (01:10:17):
Here because it's time for rupper room, Sucker, We'll let.

Speaker 1 (01:10:19):
Me tell you school the principal six.

Speaker 3 (01:10:25):
Out, get ready because we're coming for the gold. That's
Ughogan's goal. And you two suddenly in the way. We're
taking you out one at a time, now, can you
dig it?

Speaker 5 (01:10:37):
I thank you very much. I suspect sister Sherry, like
many of the managerial people that I, if you're a man,
come up with the victory tonight. I'm assuming there's gonna
be a little party.

Speaker 6 (01:10:48):
There is going to be a great, big party at
Harlem tonight. We're gonna pick our skirts up and we're
gonna knock our legs all over the place, and we're
gonna celebrate the goal.

Speaker 1 (01:10:58):
Jeanie.

Speaker 3 (01:10:59):
It's a lot of knuckle heads looking over the Hall
of Meat. But after the night, after we get the
shot with the whole coking all the knucklehead suckers getting
laid the wrists because we're taking it all all right.

Speaker 1 (01:11:12):
Way to rebound book By the.

Speaker 5 (01:11:13):
Way, Bobby Heen and you probably heard about that party.
That's something I'm certain that might interest you right now.
Let's get your back in sidey arena football.

Speaker 1 (01:11:22):
I'm sure we're also. By the way, man, the EO
Sky and uh Roxan Perez just put on the longest
sequence of pens reversals I've ever seen, and the referee
was hustling to make those two counts. I'm telling you, bro,

(01:11:42):
I gotta go back and watch. I saw like good
six or seven reversals in that and it just kept going,
uh spamming the reversal button. But Booker T Man, I love.
So the thing is the instant regret on book T's
face is what sends the moment over the top, because

(01:12:05):
it's bad. It's one thing he said it and obviously
he regrets saying and we know this, and he obviously
regrets saying on a national on pay per view. I
guess I guess they got away with him on pay
view to a certain extent. But it's edited, you know now,
But you don't want to say that on TV. But
Booker T was he was being authentic. He's being himself. Boy,

(01:12:29):
he felt that in his soul in that moment. Hawk Hogan,
We're coming for you, sucker, as Peacock says, great edited
by w W By the way, it sounds seamless. It
does sounds seamless, even that it's not what he said,
but the instant regret on book T's face when he

(01:12:52):
puts his hands up over his head. He's like, oh God,
what have I done? And Sherry comes like it's all right.
She pats him on the back. It's it's okay. Stevie Ray,
by the way, does not bud. He just stands there
just like I'm just gonna pretend that didn't happen.

Speaker 2 (01:13:06):
He's locked in.

Speaker 1 (01:13:09):
No, he wasn't. No, I guarantee you heard that. He
heard that. Boy, he was like, ooh, I want to
I'm gonna brush past that and get to my turn
and get to my part and just say that and
move on. And also Gene Oakland also wanted no parts.
He just immediately turns his back to Booker T AND's like, so,
Stevie Ray, what's going.

Speaker 2 (01:13:28):
On with you today?

Speaker 1 (01:13:29):
What's happening with you because you know, I mean, Gene
is ready to like inflame any situation. He's ready to instigate.
He's ready to ask a follow up, but wisely chose
not to in this situation because let's just hope we
avoid the FCC fine on this one, Okay. I love
though that when Stevie Ray starts talking, Booker t has

(01:13:51):
like this awkward look on his face, the scowl.

Speaker 2 (01:13:55):
So Harry you know, like drives his chat or whatever.
I guess, like trying to help the situation. And the
you know as Booker brings his head back up and
that little like frown slash angry like scow like you said,
is so funny because like he he didn't look like
that even before he was talking, but now like he

(01:14:17):
has to over over do it to try and get
over what he said. You know, like you feel like
you know, in his head, he's like, I got to
do something to like change like the thought process. So
let me let me get this like good face look
on my face. You know, like I thought it was
like so cartoonish that it was funny, Like what has

(01:14:42):
he ever looked like that?

Speaker 1 (01:14:44):
Never? He never had like a scout.

Speaker 2 (01:14:46):
Like before or after I've never seen that face again.

Speaker 1 (01:14:49):
For Booker, I'm a big meaning look at me, my scow.
I love that he comes back later. I've totally forgot
that he actually spoke again after that. Yeah, because you
just who watches the rest of the promo when it's

(01:15:09):
on the internet. He made sure that to say a
bad word again. I don't. I know Bookert doesn't like
this happened, and I understand why. I believe me, I
completely understand why. But no one again, no one wants
to be remembered for that promo. Like Bookt has done
so many things in wrestling, it would kind of suck

(01:15:29):
if that was how we remember him the most. But
for the rest of us, however, it's it's funny and
we get like I think, you know, I can't speak
for all black people, but like it's fine, and I
think he was truly speaking from the heart, which is
why he was good at promos. He just got a

(01:15:50):
little too real with this one. That's all, you know,
when keeping it real goes wrong again. But mean Geane,
by the Way, later interviewed Giant Alex luger Uh and
said that he said that Harlem Heat wasn't in the
best frame of mind, which we know Booker was not.

(01:16:11):
Book was somewhere else. Book was in the hood again, bro, like,
we We're coming for you, sucker. Oh my goodness. All right,
we already talked about our worst non wrestling happening. Uh
so we can move on to hidden gems, which you
have none of.

Speaker 2 (01:16:30):
I guess I will say by honorable mention for the
top non wrestling happening, what do.

Speaker 1 (01:16:35):
You never oh, honorable mention? Okay, from top nine happening.
Go ahead, I'm saying, how do you have an honorable
mention for a category? He didn't have anything in.

Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
We uh so the two little girls standing on Randy
Savage flex and in front of him was my top
one honorable mention was when Scott Seiner got massed. And
then you you have Dusty Rhodes reaction. You know, everyone's
reacting to Scott Seiner getting arrested, like, oh my god.
Dusty Rose is like, who cares about getting arrested? I'm
more worried about the reaction to the face. He's like,

(01:17:04):
how's he how's he dealing with it? You know that
thing sings, you know, like just his reaction to that,
he didn't care the Sky Sider was arrested at all,
he was like, I just hope the mace didn't like
hurt him bad.

Speaker 1 (01:17:16):
Basically, that's a very privileged thing to say. We cared
about him getting arrest He'll be out. He ain't do nothing,
But we gotta tag title Master to settle here tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:17:24):
What about the mace, you know, the mace in his eyes?

Speaker 1 (01:17:27):
Can he wrestle? Dusty's primary concern after this man got maced,
like unjustly maced, by the way, I don't think he
deserved that. He's the one that got spat on.

Speaker 3 (01:17:40):
Bro.

Speaker 1 (01:17:40):
That's crazy.

Speaker 2 (01:17:42):
How even in like k It's like, Dougy, what are
you doing? Man?

Speaker 1 (01:17:49):
You know who scoy is.

Speaker 2 (01:17:52):
You literally saw Kevin Nash spit in his face, like
he couldn't do that to Kevin Nash. No, you could
have just I'm not the pushing him back in the hallway,
shut the door, just tackle Scott's sider there, like you
didn't have to just tackle Scott didn't have to wrest them,
or he could have handcuffed him and then just made
him wait until the match started, like come.

Speaker 1 (01:18:11):
On, But that was that was crazy. That was a
lot teger.

Speaker 2 (01:18:16):
I feel like was a w O mole.

Speaker 1 (01:18:19):
Oh little little conspiracy theory. There some long term storytelling
there from WSW. They had a mole and a security
team and Doug Dillinger.

Speaker 2 (01:18:28):
Remember Tony Shavati. A few times we'll get bad out
of and be like, come on, they do it to us, let.

Speaker 1 (01:18:32):
Us do it to them, do it to us, all right,
Hidden gems I had a hitting gym. It is the
w CW United States Championship just because it was Demon
link O versus Chrispinoit good wrestling, but so much chaos
that it's like it's almost worth watching again if you've

(01:18:55):
never watched it, because we got Arn Anderson coming out
to help annoy. The crowd goes nuts and Kevin Sullivan
comes out and hits him, hits anoint with a stick
and the bell was ringing and then stiff as shit
too he did. And then Jimmy Hart is out there
with an injured Eddie Guerrero and Eddie Garrero is out
there on one arm. But then they give him the
US title and Edie Garrell doesn't seem to want it.

Speaker 2 (01:19:15):
It's like, why I don't like this match? It didn't
make sense. And then the announcers were doing their best
because like we this is what I loved about WCW.
Like even doing like a match I think you know
there was a box or something. It's like, oh, he
didn't get that the way he wanted, you know, like
just uh acknowledging the mess up. So like we see

(01:19:38):
Eddie Gureros like not wanting to be a part of
this and saying like, Noah, do I have nothing to
do with this and then mentioning like Eddie doesn't seem
like he wants to anything to do with this. It's
like okay, Like now it's clear to me what's happening here,
like because the announcers said it. But everything else we
we had a Rick Flair promo earlier in the night

(01:20:00):
talking about arn Anderson going in for surgery, and yet
he's out here popping the Maleco. What the hell's going
on here?

Speaker 1 (01:20:08):
He did go double A, I know you're gonna bounce back,
nest surgery baby. He mentioned Kevin Green and the promo
and everything.

Speaker 2 (01:20:15):
It was a lot like the same Kevin Green, by
the way that he turned on or that he wrestled
a Great American Bash the year prior made Mago turn on.

Speaker 1 (01:20:24):
He did what we do? He dive into that we did. Yeah,
I'm confused, But if you just want to see a
chaotic match and with some good wrestling in the beginning,
this is a good one, I think. Yeah, I have
no idea what happened the storyline wise, but there's some
good wrestling in there. At the very least uh they got.

Speaker 2 (01:20:48):
Had Jacqueline come out like beat up woman, and it's like, yeah,
that started it all, and then Jimmy Hard out there
trying to get the US title, like.

Speaker 1 (01:20:57):
Yeah, just put it on Eddie Garrell's shoulders, hey, steal it,
take it because Demlenko is the US shamp coming into
this match. But Eddie Garrell walked out with the belt
somehow with one arm.

Speaker 2 (01:21:10):
So which deep MALINKO must have been like the least
uh touted US champion at that time.

Speaker 1 (01:21:18):
I mean, apparently they didn't even want him to hold
the physical title. Give it to somebody else.

Speaker 2 (01:21:23):
He's a future horseman too, but yeah, he's goetting beat
up by the Horseman.

Speaker 1 (01:21:27):
So I don't know what's going on in this match,
but because it's so wild and chaotic, it might be
worth going back to watch here and there, So go
check it out.

Speaker 2 (01:21:39):
It's one of the like I like chaotic stuff, but
that was one that I didn't.

Speaker 1 (01:21:45):
That's fair, and that's fair. It's not for everybody. Look again,
I will admit that I was struggling with some of
these choices, all right, So I'm trying to fit you know,
square pegs in the round holes and some some of these,
all right, so bear with me here. Random thoughts sto,
let's close it out. Some random thoughts. I got one,
excuse me from the Stephen Regal Prince Iaka match, which

(01:22:11):
we haven't talked about at all. No reason to really
talk about it, Prince Ioka one. But Tony Shavanni spent
a good chunk of the match promoting Dennis Robin's new
movie called Double Team. They talk about like how they
cut away from the ray Mystereo Ultimate Dragon Match. Here
they are again talking about something else they got nothing

(01:22:32):
to do with a match, this time is Dennis Robins
movie where he co starred with John Claude Van Dam
in a movie called Double Teams, an action movie, and
Tony Shavanni said they were gonna show a clip from
the movie the next night on Nitro and would you
believe it? That this movie was horrible and somehow, despite

(01:22:53):
John Claud Van Dam being a pretty good big star
and Dennis Robin being a pretty big star, flopped at
the box office. I was suspect and then maybe he
gets make some money at the box office. It didn't.
But if you look at the the Rotten Tomato score
eleven percent of Rotten Tomatoes according to the critics, not great,
but the audience scores at twenty five. Here you go

(01:23:16):
according to a box office mode of the movie is
made for like thirty five million, only made eleven million
at the box office. Not great. But yeah, Double Team,
that's what we got a promo four on the show
at some point.

Speaker 2 (01:23:30):
It's just so funny when you're supposed to hate anything NWL.
But yeah, you have to market like you have to
hate Rodman, right, it's part of the wo But then,
by the way, here's this movie.

Speaker 1 (01:23:42):
Yeah, here's that movie which we if you want us
to deep dive into one day, please leave us a
pretrion request. We will deep dive into Double Team. I've
never seen it. I'm sure it is garbage, though, and
that's why I'd be willing to watch it for a
deep dive to see Dennis act Dennis Rob's acting skills
and John Claudeven damn kick people in the face because

(01:24:03):
that's what he got paid to do. And he was
really good at that too, kicking people in the face.
But we got that. At one point, me and Gene
brings up a new click quote unquote that's on the WS,
that's in w's W and he talks about it on
the hotline. Who the hell is he talking about this
new click?

Speaker 2 (01:24:19):
I don't know, but he's talking about it like two
or three times on this pay per view, so okay,
and you know it's April, so April ninety seven, So was.

Speaker 1 (01:24:28):
He talking about the Full Horseman?

Speaker 2 (01:24:31):
I don't know. That's not that wouldn't be a new
click to me because then they get like he doesn't
even say like another organization, So it makes me think
it's in w CW. So I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:24:44):
Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:24:44):
Man. Do we see like a group come come out
in like ninety seven, late like mid ninety seven and
late nineties. Raven?

Speaker 1 (01:24:53):
Maybe Raven's flock.

Speaker 2 (01:24:55):
Okay, he's not he's not in WW yet.

Speaker 1 (01:24:58):
So maybe Raven. I'm trying to think of who that
could be. As well. I got no nobody, So I'm
glad you said Ravens Flock because didn't even think about them.
But we talked about Rick Flair's promo earlier in the show.
He told mean Gnokling that he's returning on May first,
so that's less than a month after this show. Flair

(01:25:20):
did bring up Kevin Green, saying that he was released
to wrestle for ws W.

Speaker 2 (01:25:25):
Interesting wording. I was like, wait, sond like, maybe they
technically released Kevin Green from contracts?

Speaker 1 (01:25:31):
No, no, So I'm not sure what the hell he
was talking about here, because I'm not sure. I couldn't
find anything regarding him being released to specifically wrestle for
w's W. So here's what happened. We're after this is
ninety seven, so this is after the ninety sixth season.
Kevin Green was in the midst of a bitter contract

(01:25:52):
dispute with the Panthers at the time. Remember he spent
that season with the Panthers. They went to the NFC Championship.
He was really good, and we talked about that the
year prior for the Great American Bass because he's wearing
I think a Panthers jacket, right, and he had just
left the Stealers to go to the Panthers, but that
contract dispute was specifically really with GM Bill Pollion, and

(01:26:13):
dispute played all the way out until August when the
Panthers finally released him, So he wasn't technically released yet.
So I don't know if he talked about last year
when he was a free as I think before he
signed with the Panthers, or now when he was still
under contract technically with the Panthers. I don't know what
he's talking about. Maybe it's just Rick Flaiir is just

(01:26:35):
talking out of us, you know what. But in case
you were wondering, Kevin Green went on to have another
ten and a half sacks in nineteen ninety seven and
went to the Pro Bowl and helped the forty nine Ers,
which you eventually signed with. He signed with the San
Francisco forty nine Ers, helped them get to the NFC
Championship Game. They lost to the Packers by the way.
Oh yeah, the Packers didn't lost to the Broncos and
the Super Bowl. As for the Panthers, by the way,

(01:26:58):
they went seven to nine, so I think they missed
Kevin Green. Bill Pollion though he left the Panthers after
the nineteen ninety seventh season, and guess who went back
to the Panthers in nineteen ninty eight, Kevin Green. Coincidence maybe,
But what happened to Bill Pollion? What happened to that guy?

(01:27:18):
I mean he must have been How funny you said that,
because the next year he goes to the Indianapolis Colts.
And guess where the Colts picked in the draft the
next year?

Speaker 2 (01:27:27):
Kevin Green?

Speaker 1 (01:27:28):
I said, where they picked in the draft next year? First,
just so happened they had the number one overall pick.
Oh boy, who are they picking that draft?

Speaker 2 (01:27:38):
Kevin Green?

Speaker 1 (01:27:40):
Another guy?

Speaker 2 (01:27:41):
Uh, Peyton Manning?

Speaker 1 (01:27:43):
Absolutely right, you might have heard him. So Bill Polian
became a legendary GM after that. He's also gym with
the Bills before that when the fourt a Super Bowls,
But everybody landed on their feet somehow. Look at that
so draft of the guy named Peyton Manning? How good
is that? I lucky at that? Like number one overall
pick doesn't take a genius. Take Peyton Manning the best

(01:28:05):
QB prospect since John Elway at that point. So you
might have he's got a brother and he's got a
nephew that's playing college football right now too. If you
ever heard of him, he does uh down in Texas.
You might have heard of him, that arch arch Manning,
but you might. I don't know, you might have heard
of him. But back in April ninety seven, Rick Flair

(01:28:25):
has said Kevin Green agreed, agreed to wrestle alongside him again,
and the only thing that was missing was Hawk Cogan.
Uh did we get a match between these four people,
between any of these people in ninety seven?

Speaker 2 (01:28:36):
No? Because hal Cogan's next pay per view match was
at Bash of the Beach with Dennis Robin.

Speaker 1 (01:28:42):
I was thinking of, this is the summer of Dennis
Robin and Karl Malone with DDP. That that's next year, Okay,
next summer ninety eight. Okay, so it's just Dennis Robin
in ninety seven.

Speaker 2 (01:28:51):
That's Rob Halt, Cokin versus Lex Luger and the Giant
at Basch of the Beach. We dived.

Speaker 1 (01:28:56):
We did dive into that show, too, right.

Speaker 2 (01:28:58):
Did we did?

Speaker 1 (01:28:59):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (01:29:00):
Funny thing is, you know, Flair, everybody's dropping these sins.
There's a Slammery ninety seven promo that's basically calling out
like Hogan and stuff, or it's like Hogan Hogan and
it makes you think that he's gonna be at Slabboree
and he was not, and then he was not at
the pay per view after that in June. He was
not a great American badge. So it's like, I guess

(01:29:22):
they had plans that you know they were gonna do
the next one. That sucks, Oh man, one they came back.
They had a big ass run in the third and fourth.

Speaker 1 (01:29:32):
But they did. That's an unbelievable wins. Honestly, I must
be respected when that first game on the road like that,
the Celtics they might lose in five games though, don't worry.
Then it took Celtics might might have woken up. You
just let that ball get stolen from him, Jalen Brown,
McCaw Bridges took it from you. He's expecting the foul call,

(01:29:54):
took his lunch money. Oh lord, you can't let that happen.
That's tough, all right, But yes, Springs Damp ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:30:01):
Seven should have like Maston or something like they did.

Speaker 1 (01:30:04):
Discussteyning got him real quick.

Speaker 2 (01:30:07):
Yeah, like everyone's thinking, I guess you know where they
were gonna have a six man and then it was
gonna be the Outsiders and Hogan, but obviously I wound
up being Piper Flair, Kevin Green versus the Outsiders and six.
And I think I remember hearing it was supposed to
be Hogan, and then the lead up to this makes
you believe it was supposed to be Hogan. Just space

(01:30:28):
how how the promos are where they're calling out Hogan
by name. It's like, I guess it didn't work for him.
I guess, not man, but I guess at the same time,
if it was Hogan, you wouldn't have had Rick Clair,
Roddy Piper, and Kevin Green go over as they did
against the Outsiders and six. You know, they had like

(01:30:48):
all three of them had the finishers on at the
same time and or the figure four or whatever it was,
and they were standing tall at the end of Slammery
ninety seven. We did a deep dive on that last year,
and uh yeah, just I guess Hogan was like, yeah,
that's not happening for me.

Speaker 1 (01:31:06):
So all that for nothing? Nope, all that for nothing.
Uh And my last random note here is that we
did get a Slamberrey promo on this show, not from Haulkgan,
but from Dusty Rhodes, Bobby Hennon and Larrus Abisco, and
they were talking about what's that.

Speaker 2 (01:31:25):
I thought it was very weird.

Speaker 1 (01:31:26):
I thought so too to talk about They all were
talking about how we need somebody to stop Haulk Hogan.
He's too good, he went in too much. And it
was just like, what is this? Like I understand that
Slambered began as like the night of Legends of the
Legends reunion, so I guess they had like Legends just
hating on the top heel being the old haters. You

(01:31:49):
know what I'm saying, It like he needs to be
stopped at it. And Dusty Road was sitting in the
chair talking about that was his promo for Slambered. And
then hawk Hogan, like you said, wasn't even at Slambery,
So what's the what was this promo?

Speaker 2 (01:32:02):
I don't get it, no idea. The brain heenan.

Speaker 1 (01:32:04):
That's the American w W has got a lot of
problems right now. Too many guys setting their soul.

Speaker 2 (01:32:12):
Why are you going to stop.

Speaker 1 (01:32:13):
The NW open? We need a leader.

Speaker 3 (01:32:15):
I got pipe with sting.

Speaker 2 (01:32:18):
Time in Dallas State Slammberry go get pull holder.

Speaker 5 (01:32:22):
Later they have to be an.

Speaker 4 (01:32:23):
Indian hes w c W Slamberry Sunday, May eighteenth, live
not only on pay per view.

Speaker 1 (01:32:29):
Call your cable or satellite company.

Speaker 2 (01:32:30):
Don't order now.

Speaker 1 (01:32:33):
Well, I love that's how they promote the show. It's
like the first thing out their mouth is w's w's
got a lot of problems right now. That's how you
sell the show. Got a lot of problems right now?
Things are not good. Okay, so you need to watch
and hope that we have somebody to stop this. Oh wait,
he's not even gonna be here. Just watch the show please.
It was pretty wild. It was pretty wild that that promo,

(01:32:56):
not really wild, just like felt pointless to me.

Speaker 2 (01:33:00):
Was Sting? You know? Sting's last appearance was uncensored the
month before he finally attacks the nWo. And then I
don't think he appeared at Slamboree, and I don't remember
him appearing at Great American Bash ninety seven. I don't
even remember if he appeared at Bash at the Beach.
So it's like, what do we do? Like, I know

(01:33:21):
he's at you know, weekly TV, but everyone's expecting to
see him at the pay per views to help WCW.
When he's not always there after uncensored, So I don't
know what we're supposed to make it at. To me,
it's more of like it's like when Rick Steiner got
demolished by Nash and then you go back to Gene

(01:33:43):
Oakland and was standing with Lex Luger and the Giant.
They're like, yeah, we just watched what happened. It's like
you were there watching and he didn't come out and.

Speaker 1 (01:33:51):
Like his friends his homies right, like, what are we doing?

Speaker 2 (01:33:55):
Uh? You know, Nick Patrick looked better than you, Bias
looked better than you because they said enough was enough.
You couldn't be bothered to go out there and at
least stop Nash from doing that. Like even though it
was during the course of a match, like, oh, it's weird.

Speaker 1 (01:34:14):
M it was very weird. But yeah, that's why I
had it in my last random note. It's a strange,
strange time in w's W.

Speaker 2 (01:34:23):
I thought this was weird or I mean it was random.
But do you know what booker t meant by this?

Speaker 3 (01:34:33):
You understand what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (01:34:35):
I don't. I'm not even gonna try to speculate what that.
I know what you want to talk about, don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:34:41):
Stevie ready taking care of the giant if he like,
it could mean I don't know what he's saying though.

Speaker 1 (01:34:45):
It could mean so many things. He beats him up,
I don't know. I look, you asked the wrong person.
I don't know, so I'm saying, Okay, he beat him up,
that's what you mean.

Speaker 2 (01:34:57):
I don't though.

Speaker 1 (01:34:58):
I hope that's what you mean. I don't know what
else you're talking about. But yeah, any other random thoughts
for you from this show?

Speaker 2 (01:35:09):
They mentioned the reason Kevin Nash can request Nick Patrick
as the referee for that match was because after they
won that match and uncensored gave them basically authority over
what they can do. That was not the stipulation. The
stipulation for that on Sensor match was if TMNWO won,
they can buy for any titles at any WCW events

(01:35:33):
after that. Like that was the stipulation. It wasn't, oh,
they can, you know, request whatever they want like that
wasn't the stipulation that was VI for titles at any moment.
So they didn't even have to make Nick Patrick the
referee for that match. And I just don't like how
they explained that for a company even the announcers that

(01:35:53):
were so good at filling in the holes. They didn't
fill in that one because I remember it very clearly
that that was the stipulation. I don't like that they
tried to sell us on that being the stipulation. So
they got me hot, I can tell.

Speaker 1 (01:36:09):
I can tell.

Speaker 2 (01:36:10):
We also have no doubt Danny McBride and Nick Patrick
are related.

Speaker 1 (01:36:14):
Right on this night, they look like it. Nick Patrick
walked straight out to eastbound and down for sure. I'm
just like the cutoff shirt that the mullet, the dustash.

Speaker 2 (01:36:27):
It's incredible, incredible lookike man.

Speaker 1 (01:36:34):
Well that is Slamberree n not Slamberrie. Jesus Springs Dampede
were not't even there yet Spring Stampede nineteen ninety seven.
Any other last thoughts before we kind of wrap it
up here for episode four twenty eight.

Speaker 2 (01:36:48):
Don't like the nWo implosion thing. I thought it didn't
make sense here. I don't know why it was a thing.
Don't know why if if they felt like they needed something,
I don't still red hot. I don't think they needed
a dissension angle at this time. I do think they
should have saved it for when Hulkogan finally lost the

(01:37:09):
title to Sting and then do that. But they eventually
did the double or the two groups. But I think
it could have started that after Hulk lost the title.
I don't know why you started, you know, in April,
and then I know he lost the title the Lex Luger,
but that was like, I don't count that. You wait
till December for him to lose the title, and why

(01:37:30):
do you have that dissension? Angle smack dab of them
at all? Ninety seven just didn't make sense to me.
And then they eventually just come back together. It's like
Randy Savage and Eric Bischoff, right, they're cool with each other.
They're on probation with each other. You know, they're not
gonna hit each other anymore. It's probition. Weird. I remember
thinking it was weird, but it was WCW hot being hot,

(01:37:52):
and I was like, I don't care because it's not like,
you know, WCW announcers are like hypen this, it's oh
there's dissension. Oh you kind of get excited that something's
gonna happen, but it's very clearly not. So that's just annoyed. Man.

Speaker 1 (01:38:09):
Yeah, it just felt like we were waiting for something
else to happen, and it didn't happen, and that's a
tough way to go for a pay per view. We
spent twenty ninety nine and ninety ninety seven dollars. That
was some hard earned money right there to get a
show just like to be continued. But I guess it's
every show to a sec an extent, but like this

(01:38:29):
show felt like that more so than others. I didn't
feel like anything really got resolved outside of I guess
DDP beating Savage and ending that story, and maybe they
kind of spun another one forward with the NWOL, which
I wasn't, like you said, wasn't really ready for the
in fighting yet, but here we were only like what
a year in But things would get better, I guess,

(01:38:51):
you know, towards the Tailor. In ninety seven, Lex Luger
win the title. You know, Sting won the title. Some
things happened, but let's wrap it up for episode four
twenty eight. Sick, please check us out with some plugs please.
