Speaker 1 (00:13):
What's up everyone out there on internet land, and welcome
to episode four thirty four of the Straight Shooters available
wherever podcasts are found. My name is Vaughan Johnson and
I'm joined as always by my main man Pots and Pans,
Nick Pocona Fox, phl a Gambler and Philly influencer, and
we have yet another fantastic show ahead of us here
(00:34):
on episode four thirty four. It is a deep dive.
We are diving deep into not the Great American Bash
from two thousand, which is what we did a couple
of weeks ago. Now on our previous episode, we're going
to the show on the opposite end of the spectrum,
at least the other company from June to two thousand.
It is WWS King of the Ring from June two thousand.
(00:57):
We figured, you know, we can't be all bad in
two thousand, right in two thousand, so let's talk about
King of the Ring around the same time. So we're
going to dive into that. And of course we got
Night of Champions coming up this weekend, which is hosting
the finals of the respective King and Queen of the
Ring tournament of this year twenty twenty five. So it
felt like a good time to tie it all together
(01:18):
with a deep dive into the two thousand King of
the Ring. But before we get into that, I got
doing my weekly checking my main man pots and pants. Nick,
How are you on this gloomy Friday afternoon, my good brother.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
I love it. Not gloomy for me. It's a little
reprieve from the heat wave that we had for like
all week in the nineties, hit one hundred here in Philly,
So now we're down to the you know, the seventies today.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Something like that is I'm okay with that. I'm sitting
in a room with no fan on for the first
time and I don't know how.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Long, right, right, So it crazy with the AC on
that that heat is just the AC only is so powerful.
Oh you know, I'm still out here sweating even though
my AC's on for you know, twenty four to seven.
But you know what, today is a good day to
turn that off for a few hours and uh maybe
(02:12):
crack the window and hopefully it doesn't rain through the window.
If it does rain, but it looks like it's gonna rain. Well,
like I'm I'm for it. We need that break, We
needed you go. We didn't need it.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
We didn't need it while it was hot or it
was hot. This week, you know who's not hot. You
have Philadelphia. Phillies are not hot right now listen.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
And it doesn't even bother me this week because I
was just kind of like after that Met series, you
go from like, uh, you know, having some juice to
going to play the Astros in a series that means
nothing again, you know this. I'm they beat them the
last two seasons in series anyway, And yes, the World
Series was three years ago. Now I really don't care
(02:57):
about that in this day and age.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
I mean, you don't care about the fact that they
almost got shut out for.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
The series really dull because you know it's gonna happen
some like this is who they are. I can't get
the energy going after they beat the Mets in a
series after they had a really good stretch, you know,
after they're bad stretch going like one to nine and
(03:23):
ten games and they basically went like nine and two
or eight and two and like the next NFL Like,
I don't have the stats in front of me, but
you know they're the hot and cold team as long
as they don't get swept by the Braves. This weekend, like,
I'll probably just be like even keel. But yeah, that series.
I barely even watched the first two games of that series.
(03:44):
I mean I was I was kind of out of
commission a little bit this week, so you know, the
offensive woes. Luckily I didn't watch most of them. I
did catch a lot of the last game of the series,
which was yesterday as we're recording this, and you know,
they I only scored a run, which was exciting, and
then they probably gave it right back to the Astros.
(04:06):
So listen there. The Mets might be in first place again,
but you know, this is who the Phillies are. I
don't think they'll miss the playoffs, and I do think
they'll make a move by the trade deadline that they
sorely need. And if they don't, then I might just
not got invested in October as much as I have
been the last few years, because everybody knows who they are,
(04:30):
and if they don't take steps to fix who they
are that you know, they need a bat, they need
a right handed bat, and they need some bullpen help,
then what are we doing here? Like same old, same old,
Like Okay, then I just won't care as much and
I say that now, but I probably will, you know,
like when the time comes and be like frustrated and
(04:52):
stuff like that. But as of right now, it's just
hard for me to have the energy to be super
excited or super negative. The exciting part happened when they
beat the Bets in a series, and then you just
kind of come down from that a little bit. Now
they play the Braves this weekend. Probably get a little
bit of juice back starting tonight. But chance that Astro
(05:13):
series doesn't bother me as much as it bothers a
lot of other people.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
I guess there's no shame in losing to the Astros.
It's just the fact that they score one run in
three games. It's kind of and it took to like
the eighth inning of the third.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Game get that one run, and then they gave it
right back, which is like, right, don't even score then,
just get shut out. Some history, like the last time
they were shut out that long in a row was
three years ago and they went to the World Series.
So was it three years ago the twenty two season?
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Oh man, more recent than I thought it was.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
Well, I think it was like two in a row.
I don't know, oh, three innings, it might be different,
but the two games in a row, it's definitely uh
twenty two in August of that year as well, so
a little late in the season for that to happen.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
But went to the World Series. They did look at that.
I had a tooth pool. Yes, today I had a
wisdom tooth pool, So I'm fine. I did not go
on too anesthesia, damn, so because I'm a g and
I had stuff to do.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
So it's what you know that might be in my
future soon. I did go to that. I actually went
to the dentists Tuesday. I got some cavities filled and
it was so funny. That's the first time I've been
to the dentists for that type of work in like
twenty years. And the numbness was eventually wore off.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
But it was just that's stuff. That stuff works, bro.
I can feel half my face okay after that is
on the left side of my face and on the bottom,
and yeah, that stuff is real. It took hours for
me to get feeling back in my face, like you said,
And it feels weird because you feel half your faces
like I'm trying to drink something. It's like I can
only use half my lip because literally, just like the
(06:49):
other half of my lips mine as will not even
be there. So it's pretty crazy. It's hard to rinse.
It was tough, it was wild.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
But yeah, it waited until I got home to rents
because I wanted to be like, maybe by the time
I get home, the a little bit of feeling left,
but I didn't.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Nope, No, it took hours. That stuff is good, and
I was worried at first time. Man, I don't know
what They got it good enough? And they sure did.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Yeah, I kind of felt the same way because they're like,
they done it, and they're like, we'll be back in
five minutes for it to take effect. They can't. It
literally took like twenty minutes before they came back. But
by then, obviously I was nice and dumb, and they
were like, like the middle of your lip, and I'm
like feeling around, And until I felt around, I wasn't
sure how good the numb this was working. Numbing agent
(07:34):
was working. And then I started to feel my lip.
I was like, oh, yeah, I can't feel that, so
I can't good enough good to go three cavities feel.
It looked like quite a while.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Honestly, well as the end of my dentistry dentist talk
for the street shoot and they want me to.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Go get a Wisdom Teeth consultation because you know, even
like twenty years ago I was told to go get
a consultation. I haven't had any issues right now. The
x rads are still seemed like not close. But I
don't know. I don't know if I want to go
(08:11):
for a consultation yet.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
But that's fair and there wisn't. Two can be annoying,
though they can be annoying. This one didn't hurt. It
just allready had the one above it pulled out, so
this one was growing higher than it should have been,
so it had to go. So yeah, it's weird. Stuff
is weird, man, But we got weird stuff happening in
the pro wrestling too.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
A yank and ds when we need them.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
We got a premium live event this weekend. It is
called Night of Champions. It is in Saudi Arabia, and
there's a lot going on over on that side of
the world right now. You might have heard of it.
It's a big conflict between Israel and in Iran, which
the United States has entered itself into.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
To end it right, it's all finished.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Speak as one of the our US president has said,
is now it's the time for peace after they've bombed people.
But this created a lot of, you know, I guess
concern about WW show in Saudi Arabia coming up as
we record this tomorrow and their safety over there, because
(09:22):
you know, there's real conflict over there, and I feel
like we talked about this before, and I think it
was the ar Rumbled nineteen ninety deep dive we did
where they talked to ninety one when they talk to
fans about the war and they were like, go over
there and kick butt, and it's like, you know what
kicking butt means. It means people are getting murdered, like
people are dying. So it's that real when it comes
(09:44):
to these types of conflicts, obviously, and yet WW is
full steam ahead with not a champions. We don't know
what the situation is as far as like their safety
and what kind of security they might have, But what
we do know that the show is to gonna happen
and hopefully everybody gets over there safe and gets back safe.
(10:04):
So but there is a wrestling show schedule to happen
in Saudi Arabia. Despite all the stuff that's going on
in the world. Right now, we're gonna talk about pro
wrestling for a second in Night of Champions, which has
a card. We got a WW title match, we got
two again, the King of the Ring and Queen of
the Ring finals, We've got a US title match, We've
got a street fight, and we just we got to
(10:26):
carry and cross match.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Oh how about that?
Speaker 1 (10:29):
How about that? But I will get I do want
to get your predictions for the top three matches. All right,
we'll go US, not US, you're not undisputed. I'm gonna
send United undisputed WW Championship. John c University on Punk.
Who do you have winning here coming out of this match?
Speaker 2 (10:46):
Unfortunately, John Cena, I agree. I like them to mix
it up a little bit, but they're not going to.
I mean, TV has been kind of boring for me
the last few months, so I don't see them changing
it to a ps B.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
It's crazy that it took seam Punk to get like
a really a decent promo out of John Cena. Finally
he did the reverse pipe bomb, which wasn't like the
greatest promo ever, but it was like clever. I did
appreciate the callback, but yeah, Johnsena wins, and I don't
know what's next for seeing Punk after this. I guess
he huged with South Roland some more because they're doing
a thing pay and stuff. You can go back to
(11:21):
doing that. Roman Reigns may come back. Maybe he teams
up with seam Punk, but Johnsena retains a WW title
see him. Punk isn't even a SmackDown guy technically, so
I don't see a reason why he would win, especially
in NAA champions But who does Johnsona face? At Summer Slam.
In the King of the Ring Final, we have Cody
Rhodes going against Randy Orton. Who you got?
Speaker 2 (11:44):
I'll go Cody just usually we get like Summer Slam
rematches from Wrestle Maham Maine events, so not Backlash main events,
so I think we'll we'll stick with Cody. I'd rather
see Cena versus Cody than Seena versus Randy.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
Again, agreed, it'd be Cody versus Sena SummerSlam, and I
think Cody beats Sena. But Cody does become the King
of the Ring for the first time. How about that
King Cody. Maybe we'll put make a kay in his name,
King Cody.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
He comes out in the King garb at SummerSlam.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
He should come out the next night the sh They
didn't do a coordination last year for the No. They
did win for a Gunther, but he didn't really put
the crown on. Nia put the crown on. Yeah, he
held it and just like get out of here. Nya
did walk around with the crown on for a little
bit at least. But yeah, Cody Rhodes wins King of
the Ring and challenges John Cena at the first ever
(12:37):
two Nights SummerSlam coming up in New Jersey. Can't forget
about that Queen of the Ring final. We got Jade
Cargill versus Oscar Who you got?
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Oh we're going Jade here?
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Agree?
Speaker 2 (12:51):
No matter who is the Champion of SummerSlam. Maybe Jade
wins it. But Naomi's got that breaecase, So I think
they're still tying in that whole thing.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
I agree. If you don't give Nayoma a briefcase, it
makes sense to kind of put Jake Cargo in that periphery.
The best way to do that is to have her
win Queen of the Ring and give her a title shot.
At Summer Slam against who I get. I'm assuming it's
gonna be Tiffany Stratton, but maybe Naomi Cash isn't before
that because there is isn't there a last woman's standing
(13:20):
match coming up for the title? Is that tonight?
Speaker 2 (13:24):
See, I wouldn't know, oh man or yeah? Now I
gotta look at it hard to you know.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
Remember, I'm pretty sure that's tonight, but I can look. Yes,
last woman Standing for the w W Women's Championship is
Tiffany Stratton versus Naya Jack. So as we record this,
this match has not happened yet.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
But actually gonna happen early because they're in Saudi Arabia
for SMACKWN so it's gonna have on Netflix internationally, but
here we gotta wait till tonight.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
There you go. But the thing is that you can
see a Nia Jack's Cash, not Nia Jack's Naomi Cashing
on SmackDown, So and that could set up Jade versus
Naya at SummerSlam, which I'm here for. Say nia again,
Jay versus Naomi at SummerSlam.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
This is why Vince wanted the different names for everyone.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
Too many en names that almost went left as well,
but that could have went in a totally different direction
that could have went, like in that direction when they're
talking about letting nay say or no, and Pat McAfee
was like, Ah, that's not what I thought he was
gonna say, that's a time, that's a nod timer. But yeah,
(14:56):
Jade Cargo wins Queen of the.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
Ring on long Own Love Island.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
Oh no, I don't watch Love Island.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
I have not, but I'm going to ask you about Yeah,
I got into it, you know, since this week I've
kind of been, so I'm all caught up now, and
it's it's like it's I don't know if I like
it as much as Love is Blind, but I like
messiness when it's like I'm not involved, you know, and
(15:25):
I like, I'm here for the memes.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
So I feel like I've seen a lot of people
talk about it on social media, but I haven't got.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
Because it's like every night, you know, It's like they
it's almost every night for like a month.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
So yeah, and it's like in real time too, so
it's not oh my god, it's we're getting to you know,
get to day delay.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
You know, that's something you get like pretty raw portrayals
of these people then not like heavily is it still
heavily edited?
Speaker 2 (15:50):
I mean it feels it feels like it is. I'm
sure the producers want to say certain or tell certain
stories for because there's already been people that are like, yeah,
they didn't put this in, they didn't put that in
the people that have already left. So the whole concept
is interesting because I I didn't watch one episode until
like last week, and uh, this is the seventh season
(16:14):
currently going on. So but now I'm invested in like
the storylines people are talking about the memes obviously, I
think I've I've even saved a couple since then. I
was like, this would make a funny reaction to something online,
and uh, you know, nothing bad, nothing hokey, just it's
something to fill the time for me. So yeah, I'm
(16:35):
so I could like understand what people are talking about.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
I guess, speaking of pill the time, they got three
more matches on Night of Champions to fill up that time.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
How tiple hs copap with that six matches?
Speaker 1 (16:48):
Six matches US title match, Jacob Fatu solo so Co
real quick, I'm going solo so Co really hmmm. I
just think he needs to win.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
I think it gets help. Probably I see that.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
If I don't see how he can't beat him clean.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
So Jacob's faced down, So I'm sure they want to
chase for for something.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
You can chase. It can chase till summer. Slim doesn't
chase that long. I didn't get it right back.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
Yeah, uh did we have that rumor the other week that?
Speaker 3 (17:20):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (17:23):
I didn't say last I either. I supposed to debut,
so maybe that's part of it.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Maybe they maybe maybe they flew him over to Saudi Arabia.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
You know, I'll still go too, because Sila beating Fat
too would be a big moment. But I don't know
if they do that. You know, it's kind of a
stack card. The top heavy, I should.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
Say, yeah, very top heavy street fight, Real Ripley and
Real Riley, right yeah yeah, and Sammy's aversus carrying a cross.
I don't know what to do with this here.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
I'll go Sammy, but like, yeah, say they'll have a
rematch at some point with like a stipul or something.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
And that that is I think that's match is taking
the place of the Icy title match. I was supposed
to be on that car domestery and I forget who
he's supposed to go against all of a sudden but
oh aj styles right, so they're doing like an injury
angle or something. Maybe they said I'm not flying over there.
I don't know, but that match is off on is
sammy'sane and carrying cross? So carrying cross on a pl
(18:24):
for the first team, then, man, what a glow up?
What a come up for carrying cross? Switching gears a
little bit. Since we are crowning a King and Queen
of the Ring and we are diving deep into the
two thousand King of the Ring, wanted to take a
second talk about and I was going to talk about
it in the deep dive, but we'll talk about it here.
(18:45):
The King of the Ring format this year. We haven't
talked about this a lot in that it's sixteen people.
But the first round wasn't one on one matches. They
were all fatal four ways, and I did have some
note about it again during a deep dive, so you know,
bear with me, But how do you feel about the
(19:06):
fatal four ways? Just a unique twist on it. Essentially
it accomplishes the same goal but different. How do you
feel about the fatal four ways in the first round.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
At first I wasn't like thrilled because growing up, my
first King in the Ring tournament was ninety three, so
you had, you know, the one on one matches on
TV leaning up to it, and it kind of got
Jones Tour and stuff like that, and who's gonna face
who in the next round and you only had like, yeah,
you had you already knew who the winner of one
match would face the next match. I don't know. I
(19:39):
guess it's the same here. It's like not a terrible format.
You still have sixteen people. That's kind of what it
was in ninety three when it first started on TV,
where it's like you had the qualifying matches and then
you went to the quarterfinals and there were only four
match four quarterfinals, so there was still sixteen people regardless.
(20:01):
So I guess the amount of people if sixteen is
the number, like, I guess it's fine if the fatal
four way. I just wish they wouldn't rely on outside
interference so much like run it into But I know
they use it to further along storylines for certain people,
but they could do the same thing in the one
on one match just too so. But I think part
(20:24):
of the reason I think they did the same format
before for certain things, maybe not yea for.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
Like a number one contender tournament or something like that. Yeah,
they've used like the triple threat. Then they just did
triple threats for money in the bank, right qualifiers or
something like that.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
So I mean it's unique in the way like where
I grew up and it was just one on one,
one on one, one on one. So I don't really
mind the triple threat or fatal four. Way you get
more people involved and maybe you could tell more stories
or plant seeds for something. I thought I would hate it,
but I don't hate it, but I still prefer the
one on I do think that one on one is
just classic tournament style, Like you have enough TV to fill,
(21:06):
why not just do one on one? But again, they're
more commercialized now than they were then, so I get it.
I want to compress time a little.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
Bit, Yeah, I get that. I think the fatal four
waste of a purpose in that you don't have to
beat as many people, right, Like you only have to
beat people, you only have to beat four people, yeah,
instead of eight people, right, And if you set up
your one on one matches, you kind of know who's
wying to do what you know, you're not kind of
(21:37):
know that who's gonna win. I guess in some of
these cases, if you were to split them up and
again you're just beating someone when you don't necessarily have to.
Again only beating four instead of eight, you know, So
I do understand it. It goes against the tradition. I
think I still in favor of an actual tournament where
single elimination one v one them, it's gonna start off
(22:00):
with a pot of four all going at it at
the same time.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
Generally, the tournaments, the NHL playoffs, so like four teams
on one rink.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
Right, there is a group stage and a lot of tournaments,
you know, the World Cup, the Olympics, but they don't
go at it all at once. They still have they
had that round robin, right or they go one on one.
So but it's unique. But I understand from the standpoint,
like I said, you create only a few opportunities to
beat people. The interference can help further some stories. You
(22:29):
protect other people from getting beat as well, so you
create some unique matchups, you know, and they don't have
a lot of four ways on TV anymore. Remember we're
gonna talk about two thousand, WrestleMania didn't have a one
on one match on the entire show. Yeah, so there
was a time where they would just throw out random
(22:50):
triple threats and random four ways, and they had a
whole show called Fatal four Way because they just couldn't
get enough of them apparently. So if they're gonna keep
a four way to like these tournament fields, I can
get behind that. Does that make sense? If you're gonna
limit it to something limited to these tournaments, we're already
(23:12):
gonna have a bunch of people involved anyway, So throw
them in a four way is the reason to have
a four way instead of how do you get to
a four ways? Story wise? Like it's they might do
a triple threat for their Women's IC title, but again
they had to work to get to that point. It
took work. Try throwing in a fourth person into that
(23:35):
for the most part, it's gonna feel random, it's gonna
feel weird, but like and that's what it was back
in two thousand or ninety nine where they would did
the four ways for the Hardcore title and the four
ways for the Icy title or WrestleMania, and they switched
all the people around and it was weird. It's just
like what what so, Yeah, I do understand it. It's
not traditional, and I hear the the knocks against it,
(23:57):
but I think from a from a practical standpoint, from
what they're trying to do, I think it actually kind
of makes sense and you still get the same things done.
It's just in a shorter amount of time and you
beat less people, So there's that.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
Moving on from there to the semifinals, it's like a
big match to win. You know, you beat three other people,
you're automatically nos.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
That's true, and I think there's something to be said
about the journey where you limit the journey when you
do a fad or four way in the beginning, and
you so far cry from like a Continental Classic or
a g One Climax where you're doing a whole round
robin in the group stage and Group A, Group B,
and the points system not nearly that complicated. Not to
(24:40):
say those are bad. I think I love those tournaments everybody.
A lot of people love those tournaments, and I'm a
sucker for a good tournament. That's the only thing I
think that takes away when you have the four ways
in the first man, is that it kind of removes
a good chunk of the journey that people like to
go on when you witness a tournament. That's part of
the beauty of tournaments that you see the progression from
(25:00):
one round to the next.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
And they all can have the distinct qualities and characteristics,
you know. I think you can ask a lot of
Eagles fans about this most recent playoff run. They remember
where they were, and they watched the Packers game, the
Rams game. Oh it was snowing crazy during the Rams game,
and then the Commander's game where they were, and of
course the Super Bowl, and the same thing for other
sports teams. And so you can ask Thunder fans about
(25:26):
their playoff run. And there was four rounds. You had
to win four games every round. You had to win
sixteen games to win it, so that that journey is
part of the deal too, and you kind of lose
that with this fatal four also, so.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
They made history, the Eagles did by winning them at home,
like the first three at home, because usually the wildcard
team if you had all on that journey, or the
road team and you go and be but the Eagles
were the home team. So it's interesting seeing them win
three whole games.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
They added they added the extra playoff team, which limited
the first round bys to only one team. So they
might be the first team to host three consecutive home
playoff games. They might be the first team to do that.
I don't know that for certain, because there's not a
lot of teams.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
Like said, they only had two because the right they
got to buy even what it was back to two teams.
But they were one of those two.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
No, they two was still one team and they had
the best record in the league. Yeah, they had the
best record.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
In the change. I guess twenty twenty one was.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
The first year. Yeah, because I was that was that
was my last year of the Eagles and we were
the seven seed going into the playoffs. So at nine
and eight, baby, So.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
But you said they got me off the Titanic.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
No, I said, I need more money the Titanic whatsoever?
You see, the sink was not the ship was not sinking.
It's not never a sinking ship at all. I just
needed more. But the thing is that you add the
extra playoff team. I don't Again, I don't know if
(26:58):
there's been a team to host three straight home playof
games because usually if you're playing in a wildcard round,
you're not hosting a divisional playoff game traditionally, and even
if you somehow and look into a third playoff game,
you're generally not hosting that conference championship game neither. There
had been times where a wildcard team hosted the first
playoff game, went on the road in the second round,
and then hosted the conference championship. One example would be
(27:19):
the Cardinals No. Eight when they hosted Atlanta, beat Carolina
on the road, hosted the Eagles and the ends championship.
But three straight. Yeah, that's that's unique. That's different. I've
never thought about it.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
I did earlier. I think this say that the Eagles
were a wildcard team. No, they won the division.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
They won a division. Yes, they played in the wildcard round.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
Yeah, they weren't a wildcard team. I don't know why
I said that.
Speaker 1 (27:44):
And even that happened, they hosted the conference championship only
because Detroit lost at home to the Commander. So it
wasn't like, you know, it was just the way the
chips fell. But I think a lot of Eagles fans
were expecting to be in Detroit for the NFC Championship.
It was like, oh, they could's a championship too, yay, Like,
look at this extra game. So I'm sure the Eagles
(28:06):
organization were mad about that either, because the playoff checks
were probably a lot nicer with the Home Nanity Championship
then it would be with the Road Nancy Championship. But
even though it wouldn't matter that if they had won
a Super Bowl anyways, still getting a nice little bonus
still regardless. Uh, speaking of bonuses, I don't know if
this is actually a bonus, but we're getting Goldberg back
on TV.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
Not a bonus.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
We talked about it a little bit last week and
it became official. Oh what's the two weeks ago?
Speaker 2 (28:33):
Now?
Speaker 1 (28:33):
I can't remember, but either way.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
Back on TV, we're like, hey, he's supposed to be
on TV coming up, And there he was, and.
Speaker 1 (28:41):
He's wrestling Gunther in a World Heavyweight Championship match at
Saturday Night's Main Events.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
A number one contenders match somewhere.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
Nope, Oh, he's just retiring and it's in Atlanta. And
July July twelfth, the same night as All In, you're
gonna have on one end, you're gonna have Adam Page
and John Moxley, or let's say Kenny Omega Okada potentially
in the main event going against Gunther and Bill Goldberg
(29:12):
wrestling for the world title at.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
In his mid fifties fifty eight, I believe, And we.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
Talked about how his training wasn't going well, and lo
and behold when you see him on TV, he is
noticeably limping in his state.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
In his turn, he was spent going to the ring man,
he was spent.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
And it's like, man, this is out of nowhere. This
is kind of out of character for modern day WW
because they kind of don't just take these wild pivots
like Vince you would do. They would just drop in
a legend and be like, ah, I got the next
title shot, where they don't usually do that anymore. But
here goes Goldberg and he just says, six months ago
(29:50):
you offended me, and I waited till right now to
get my revenge. You talked bad about being in front
of my kids.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
That's sat there the next time you guys come to Atlanta.
But then yet he flew to wherever they were two
weeks ago.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
So yeah, omaha, I don't know where they were, Green Bay.
I think it was, uh either way, Yeah, it's it's
it's weird because they just dropped him in there, yep,
and it's probably not gonna be good. But it's who's
who is this for exactly? It it's for Goldberg so
he can finally wrap up his career the way he
wants to, which I guess he's earned the right to
(30:25):
do that. It's just it doesn't fit in with the
rest of the product right now. And that's just the
only problem. But they're doing that Saturday Nights main event.
It's not even a premium live event, it's a television show.
So I guess it's if this is Vin mc man,
this would have happened at SummerSlam, like it'd have been
(30:45):
far worse. So it's okay for Saturday Nights main event.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
Yeah, it's it's there. I'll take Hangman and Moxley and
Okada and o Maga over that no offense. But I
just I don't. I'm not moved. So although I might
sewn in just to see how bad it gets, I.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
Mean, you almost gotta you almost gotta see what. But
the thing is, the thing is, it's like it's so
much happening that whole weekend is like you gotta choose
between his free and that's the thing too. They're doing
a free television show the same day. It's not like
w w's running a premium live event. Even they're doing
a network television show the same day that's a pay
per view. That's I understand this competition, but like, damn,
(31:34):
you're really going for the juggler in some of these instances.
You don't have to put on a free show, but
make people gonna make a decision whether they're gonna pay
for all in bigger show by all rights, probably and
surely you're gonna have better wrestling. Also going to be
the longer show too. You gotta consider that you can
(31:56):
pretty much bank on a Saturday Nights Man event being
off the air like ten and no later than eleven
because they gotta get out the air for the nightly
news Baby and Saturday Night Live. Okay, but all in,
you might be there all night.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
So like, what really are they gonna go ahead ahead
against like a big card match or maybe a women's
match or something.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
Na, it'll be like a Danny Garcia match, not Danny Garcia,
Daniel Garcia, Danny Garcia's running the owner of the UFL,
but Daniel Garcia match going against Goldberg on July twelfth,
so she'd be interesting in about a couple of weeks
time as we record this here on June twenty seventh.
(32:41):
But Nick, if you're ready, I'm ready to dive deep
into the two thousand King of the Ring? Are you?
King of Ring? Serious business? Are fabled history and heralded
packers like kingdoms, become champions, were the king of the rank.
(33:03):
You become an immediate player, and champions become legends.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
Three sixteens just growing grass, eight men on the verge
of superstardom.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
Only one will be crowned king.
Speaker 4 (33:16):
A lot of about a drug high here to ninety nine.
This is the most important thing in my life.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
You great competitors, feeling gets sucked into that old divide
and conquer strategy.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
I know you think you are.
Speaker 4 (33:40):
Either lot of three of us will be.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
Yeah, that makes sense sense.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
W W Championship that belts.
Speaker 4 (33:59):
Six men.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
And now Subway presents the WWF Kings.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
The way Sandwich should be up up. They're fighting, righting.
Speaker 1 (34:20):
So many so much sword.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
Play to keep that in there.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
There's so much knocking out the names and stuff. There's
a lot going on. But the King of the Ring
took place on June twenty fifth, two thousand. The show
emanated from the Fleet Center now known as a TD
Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Of course, that is the home
of the Boston Celtics and the Boston Bruins of the
(34:45):
NHL and the Celtics of the NBA. Of course, on
this night, there were more than seventeen thousand people in
the building, and we're what were we doing at this time?
We're two weeks, two weeks after a horrendous Great American
Bash pay per view from ws W and now here
we are for the eighth pay per view installment of
(35:08):
The King of the Ring from w WF. So these
days we have again the King and Queen of the Ring.
They had their own show last year. Now it's called
now it's not the Champions, But we only had one
kanga back in the day, back in two thousand and
the tournament, as we discussed earlier, was much different than
(35:29):
it is today because, as we said, they used a
series of fatal four ways in the first round this year.
But of course back in two thousand they were one
on one matches throughout and a lot of them were
featured on television, just like you know, the fatal four
ways were today, but back in two thousand, WWF had
(35:50):
the largest King of the Ring tournament field I think
ever to this point, thirty two people in the tournament
instead of the traditional six, which is pretty much what
it was throughout and still is throughout the lifetime of
the King of the Ring. I think there might have
been a time or two where there was eight, but
for the most part it's sixteen. But in this tournament
(36:13):
thirty two people, thirty one men and one woman. That
one woman being in China. She also competed in the
nineteen ninety nine King of the Ring as well. But
you know, instead of sixteen, Vince said let's double that,
let's double up, and that this was the second INNI
actually take that back. This was ninety nine and two thousand.
(36:36):
Uh no, I'll take that back. I'm reading my notes wrong.
I apologize the second in a row that the tournament
had three rounds on pay per view, I should say, yeah,
usually it was only the semi finals in the finals,
but for whatever reason, in ninety nine and two thousand,
the quarterfinals were also on pay per view, giving us
on this night at least a card that features eleven matches.
(37:01):
That's like an aw show. I liked that.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
In ninety three to ninety four they have the quarterfinals too,
and you know, it was fun. And then they just
started aaron just the semifinals and finals. I was like,
that's lame. It's it's kicking of the ring man, like
it's about the tournament.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
I get you. I think I'm a fan of the
semi finals and the finals only because do you really
want people wrestling three times in one night?
Speaker 2 (37:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (37:27):
And then you know that those those first round, those
quarterfinal matches aren't going to be that long, they're not
going to be that good, So why do them. You
can have a better match on TV in the quarterfinals
than you probably will in the pay per view when
you're jamming in three rounds of a tournament. So to me,
you got to earn the right to get to the
to the pay per view, so you gotta get to
the semis like the final four. In basketball college basketball,
(37:50):
you don't. You're a regional champ. You go to the
final four, but the quarterfinals ain't part of that. The
national semi, national quarterfinals, it's the national semi in the
final that's part of the final. Four, and you travel
to the sites of the Final four, and that's where
you get to earn the right to be there. And
I think that's how I like it, at least for
the King of the Ring. I think three rounds of
(38:11):
matches on TV. Too many matches are not on TV
on pay per view, too many matches, And I think
the matches are just generally shorter. You don't really get
the full extent of the match as you could if
it was just on TV.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
I get you, I get you.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
Okay, Okay, I'm glad you understand.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
That's a good point.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
I appreciate that. Another unique fact about this event is
that it featured a six man tag for a singles championship. Yes,
and in that championship was the top title, the WWF Championship,
and the champion, and the champion didn't have to get
penned to lose, which means he's probably going to lose.
Speaker 2 (38:53):
Can't just call it a six pack challenge, No, it's
a tax.
Speaker 1 (38:56):
On match, baby mmmmm. I mean it eventually down into that.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
But and by this point they already had a six
pack challenge, so it wasn't like a new concept. Yeah right, Yeah,
I mean I think they already had like two by
this point, they had like a five pack at one point.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
Nobody likes a five pack. Just give me the actually
big come on, give me a six give me a
five pack.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
The whole time I'm watching that, I'm just like, this
could have been a six pack challenge. But I don't
know why they did the tay. I think they were
trying a little too hard because Vince Russo left and
they're like, you know, having two thousand all of themselves,
you know.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
Yeah, it just felt like they were trying to create
unique matches out of nowhere. It's like, we've done one
on one matches, but now we got to spice it up,
and it would just look just pulling things out of
thin air instead of like doing the due diligence of
like putting telling good stories. And look, don't get me wrong,
this wasn't like w w F in two thousand was
necessarily bad. It's still my face with you and wrestling,
(40:01):
and it was white hot in two thousands, So something like,
you know, what they were doing wasn't working. But you
can tell that they had begun to run out of ideas.
When we're doing six man tags for the WWF Championship
where the one guy gets pinned and he wins, or
in other areas, we got an evening gown match for
(40:22):
the Hardcore title with Pat Patterson and Jared Briscoe. Yeah what,
And then we got the handicap tables dumpster match. So
it's like this, this is odd, right, But despite those
odd booking decisions and stipulations, WWF could seemingly do no wrong.
(40:44):
Business was booming, and that was without the company centerpiece,
and Steve Austin and the Rockers assumed that role, and
WWF just kept on rolling, just kept on rolling. What
do you remember about this time in WWF at this
point in two thousand.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
I remember being preparing myself for plastic surgery at this time.
I think I got in the end of June or
July born with a cleftlip and palette and broken nose.
So I got my nose reconstructed that summer, and I
think it was a week or two after this, because
(41:24):
I think it was in July. So yeah, I mean,
I was kind of watching wrestling, but like you know,
obviously nervous about what to expect with my personal life
coming up to plastic surgeon, shattering my nose and rebuilding
it from scratch. So I don't think I was. I
(41:45):
think the like the six man tag and everything like that.
I was just like, what the hell is this? Like
I'm getting surgery soon and shit's gone off the rails,
man Like, I wasn't into a lot of what was
going on. Maybe it's because Steve Austin was out, but yeah,
I just I wasn't feeling a lot of uh the
(42:06):
title pitcher. I guess I liked the rock, but I
was never like the biggest rock guy. I was always
because Austin came first to me. So it was like
anyone who comes after the big guy that I like,
I don't like as much. And so obviously the Rock
was the guy at this time, and I'm like, well,
he's no stone cold Steve Awston. So I wasn't like
(42:28):
on the rock bandwagon. But to me it would have
been better than the Undertaker, Ricane or any of the
heels obviously, So I'm just like, okay, Like, I guess
he's entertaining.
Speaker 1 (42:37):
So you mean you didn't expect Undertaker and Kane to
win the title here? Is that not what you expect me?
Speaker 2 (42:43):
I mean I didn't honestly I didn't expect Triple H
to lose it. I thought it was like am I
thought it was a hockey thing. And I was like,
the way they're talking about it, the Triple H is
scared and all that. I was like, oh, well, clearly
he's going to keep it then. But you know, they
had Vince McMahon lose to put the Battle of the Rock,
So I mean, it was a little crazy. I thought
(43:06):
maybe I was already under amnesia.
Speaker 1 (43:10):
That's crazy. It was a little nuts when you think
about it. We spent a lot of time piling on
WCW for their odd booking decisions at Great American Bash
two thousand, but we cannot let WWF off the hook
for what they tried to do on this night. When
it comes to the six man tag the handicapped dumpster
(43:33):
Tables match.
Speaker 2 (43:34):
That DX wasn't even like entertainment. They were heels right
and tory in there. I was like, this isn't the
DX I liked, like, I hated, I didn't hate, but
I was so disinterested.
Speaker 1 (43:47):
It was kind of all over the place. And then
of course the Evening Gown Match, Evening Gown Hardcore Championship
matches like that came straight out of Vince McMahon's mind.
Oh there's no one else came up with that but
Vince McMahon and he probably thoroughly enjoyed it. No one
else did, but I'm sure Vince did. But as we've
(44:08):
done a lot lately, we've had our got our new format.
I should say we've done a lot lately. We've done
it for like a year or two. Now what am
I talking about? But we will have our match of
the night, our worst match of the night, our top
non wrestling happening, worst non wrestling happening. Of course, we've
got some hitting gyms or two, you know, And of
course I got lots of random thoughts, but nick Match
(44:32):
of the Night from King of the Ring in two thousand.
Speaker 2 (44:35):
Slim pickings honestly on this. So I'll go with the
safe choice. And I do think it was the best
belt of bellt Match of the night, first round match,
quarterfinal Kurd Angle and Chris Jericho name value kind of
prop that up a little bit, sure, but I do
think it was you know, Kurtz promo in the beginning
(44:55):
before the match, fantastic talk about the Boston Sports teams,
how bad they were, which they were, and then the
run they've gone on since I thought it was. It
was even funnier now watching it back then, you know,
in the moment because obviously in the moment and obviously
the Edge and Christian thing going to be again their
match just poking fun at Boston fans. Big fan of that,
(45:18):
big fan of that.
Speaker 1 (45:19):
So so I have that match as like an honorable mention.
I have another match before that, but I also have
Kurt Angle and of course Edgend Christian, you know, trashing
Boston sports teams as my top nine wrestling happening. So
we'll talk about that in a little bit. But I
disagree with you as far as the actual best match
(45:39):
of the night. I'm gonna go with that Schmorgensborg that
was the main event as the match of the night.
I think Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho was a great
King of the Ring match for what it was, but
obviously the one that had the most people that were
over in it. And it doesn't hurt when you have
six people in it, but yeah, the most people that
are over, the crowd would reacted big. It was a
(46:01):
title change. The wrestling itself wasn't bad, you know, it
was just the stipulation was weird, but I thought the
main event was the matchup the night. I thought that.
Speaker 2 (46:16):
I get it a bunch of times.
Speaker 1 (46:18):
I'm sure he did, but I thought his so his
highlights that I had here. For one, this was Undertaker's
first pay per view match as the American Badass and
his first pay per view since Summer Slam in ninety nine,
which was interesting little fact there. I thought Jerry King
Lawler's impersonation of Kine in the beginning was hysterical. When
(46:39):
he talked, I think they were like he was impersonating Kane.
It's like, I forget what, man, what was the context
of it. It was like people they're trying to get
rally people up or something like that, and damn, I can't.
I almost I can remember the context. I didn't write
it down, but I just remember King going girl supposed
(47:00):
to be Kane. That was hilarious and I'm really mad
at myself for not remembering the context of this joke.
But it was something like the Rock would say this,
but Kane he just went girl, and I thought that
was funny. I don't know why. Uh, the good guy
started off beating up Shane a whole bunch. Took all
(47:20):
the bumps.
Speaker 2 (47:21):
Better than I think we remember. I guess he took
the bumps like the way he took the bumps as
an art. He gave some moves that you know, like
trained wrestlers give, like. I think he was better in
the ring than people remember.
Speaker 1 (47:38):
He was good, and there's reason why people liked him
because he did take up all the big bumps. At
the very least, eventually things broke down.
Speaker 2 (47:44):
They're like, die for us, but at the very.
Speaker 1 (47:47):
Least, uh, fighting is happening outside the ring. Kine attacks
the Undertaker, which is like, well heah attacked his own
brother and the Rock Triple as though, He's like, Caine
is on my side, so we cool, right, Nope, Cain too,
Stone striple h but Undertaker breaks up the Penn and
Tip and then clocks Cane in the head with a chair,
So oh hell it is broken loose. This was a
(48:07):
six man tag team match. Now it was just six
men beating the crap out of each other. Seamingman climbs
to the top rope, Undertaker catches him and choke slams
him from the top turn buckle outside of the ring.
Through the announced table and seam McMahan took a nasty,
nasty looking bump through that table. Looked like he landed
(48:29):
right on his shoulder.
Speaker 2 (48:30):
If we had a format that included Spot of the Night,
that would be mine because that was a great spot.
Speaker 1 (48:37):
Yeah, we probably should do that.
Speaker 2 (48:38):
I I did not expect that. Like, watching it back,
I was like, oh, snap.
Speaker 1 (48:43):
Yeah, that was crazy. That was crazy. That's a good idea.
I'm write that down for a Spot of the Night
to our format from here on out. But after that,
the Rock is still in the ring. He gets choke
slammed by Cane. Vince says, oh, the Rock is down.
Let me try to do a people's elbow to win
the match. No, I'm gonna try to do the people's elbow.
(49:04):
But instead, while he's running the ropes, the Rock jumps up,
hits him on the rock bottom, and pens Vince McMahon
to become the new w w F champion. Mind you,
I don't know if we made this clear. Triple H
is the champion. He is a defending champion, but the
decision he was not involved decision, losing pens Vince to
(49:26):
win the championship. Triple H's reaction to Howard Finkel announcing
that there's a new champion. It's classic. Uh no, my god,
like you you saw him get pinned, right, Why you
knew the stipulations going in. You knew the you knew
the deal. And then to celebrate, the Rock hits Vin
sc man with the belt, pulls his best John Cena impersonation.
(49:49):
Uh and then puts his foot on his chest as
the show goes off the air. Uh So, yeah, that
was my That was my match of the night. But
again I did enjoy Kurt Angle Andris and Chris Jericho
as well.
Speaker 2 (49:59):
It's like the Rock was the legal guy in the match,
and when Caine choke slammed him and then Triple H
was like, yeah, my buddy Kane and Kane Tombstone's triple
H and then goes for the pin and what is
Earl doing counting the pin? Caine's not the legal guy.
Speaker 1 (50:16):
Things broke down pretty quick, and.
Speaker 2 (50:20):
Vince was not the legal guy because he never tug
in triple Ah, never tuck him in. He was the
least guy. You know, Robin tug. I guess no.
Speaker 1 (50:31):
Tagged tagged him in this. There's a word for that.
It's past tense.
Speaker 2 (50:35):
Tagged tugged him in. Uh he so Vince was wasn't
the legal guy and this apparently never came up after
the fact, So Earl Heavner, not paying attention rules out
the window. Nobody's paying attention to anything. It was messy.
That's why I didn't like it. It wasn't my match
of the night because it was just a messy and
(50:59):
cardigle Chris Shark. Oh, I mean it was kind of
messy at the end, you know, like Chris Jericho didn't
have to sexually assault Stephanie, but he did, and not
a fan of that. And also, why is so he's
calling Stephanie all these names, you know and promos and
yet he goes for a kiss. Never understood that logic
(51:19):
even as a teenager. I was just like, he must
be jealous of Triple H. Then if you're you're kissing
Stephanie like you obviously want that, Like you don't do
it just to you know, like if you're saying all
these names about her but you actually go to kiss her,
then you don't really believe any of that. So it
made Jericho kind of look like a clown to me
a little bit.
Speaker 1 (51:40):
I had that as my worst non wrestling happening when
Jericho laid the kiss on Stephanie McMahon and then he
turned around and got exactly what he deserved by getting
an Angle slam from Kurt Angle and losing the match.
Keep your on the ball, Creep, exactly, keep your eye
on the ball. So yeah, I had that's my worst
non wrestling happening. But let's move on to the worst
(52:02):
match of the night.
Speaker 2 (52:04):
It's tough, is it.
Speaker 1 (52:06):
It's not that tough for me, but I'll let you
go first.
Speaker 2 (52:09):
Uh. You know what, after much much deliberation and hours
and hours after the show of trying to come up
with the worst match, I landed on that Hardcore Championship
even again.
Speaker 1 (52:20):
Oh man, I'm sure that was a lot of painstaking
effort to come up with that. I've been runnings and
running through the computer, through the algorithm, get the calculations correct.
You know.
Speaker 2 (52:34):
Why? Like a pay per view?
Speaker 1 (52:39):
Yeah, that's the crazy thing this is. This didn't even
belong to Sunday Night Heat.
Speaker 2 (52:42):
Like my mom's like, I pay money for this.
Speaker 1 (52:45):
I don't blame her. You put this on pay per view.
People pay thirty dollars. I assume if I remember correct,
at least at least probably good thirty bucks spot in
two thousand. Again, I know the young bucks after thirty dollars, Yeah,
broke thirty dollars back in two thousand. Was a good
amount of money for a wrestling show. Bro Okay, that
took some convincing in my household, and it didn't work
(53:08):
because I didn't watch the show, and so it didn't
work for me.
Speaker 2 (53:14):
Like, yeah, you had two big companies still time and
obviously ECW was still doing pay per views, so you
there's only so much to go around. Both companies are
doing monthly pay per views, so you know there were
people that I'm short ordered both. So that's at least
sixty right there.
Speaker 1 (53:30):
In two thousand, Oh, my lord and the New Millennium,
the first year of the New Millennium, of the New Willennium. Nah,
I can't do it, not every month, and then you
give me Gerald didn't Briscoe and Pat Patricia Patterson and
and even gowns. At least that's a joke I made.
(53:51):
But it's Pat Patterson and Jerald Briscoe. And you asked
why who was this for? Vince? That's it. This got
a video.
Speaker 2 (53:59):
Package to be in the main event. You guys are
gonna wrestle too.
Speaker 1 (54:03):
This got a video package, which I thought was I'm
not gonna lie to you. The video is kind of funny.
I'm not gonna lie. They put a lot of production
behind it, which is also absurd. Why did you put
that level of production behind this. You have people working
their tails off, breaking their bodies up from one side
of the world to the next, and you don't give
them a second of video production. And you give granted
(54:25):
legendary wrestlers Jerald Briskow and Pat Patterson, but well past
their prime, and not wrestlers, and not anyone anyone wants
to see wrestle, let alone wrestling evening gowns. And they
got the very in depth and kind of hilarious video package.
Speaker 2 (54:41):
They were like, we'll do it, but you better build
it right. Make sure that people are amps for it.
Speaker 1 (54:49):
Nobody was amped. That's not getting amped. It was all
to just get a good laugh at the two legendary
figures in wrestling, not enough to again have him wrestled.
They gotta come on evening gowns. Uh. Jerald Brisco comes
out to real American.
Speaker 2 (55:07):
Yeah, liked both of them came out to that song before,
so I.
Speaker 1 (55:14):
Mean, I was like, isn't Joe Brisco part Native? So
maybe it is a real American after all?
Speaker 2 (55:22):
The song choice, like when both of them would like er,
they would play this song.
Speaker 1 (55:27):
Really and Pat Patterson straight out of Montreal, Oh, straight
out of Quebec. I don't know if he's in Montreal,
but both real Americans. I guess. I don't know why
the song.
Speaker 2 (55:37):
General difference you have like a I put Patterson had
an old school rob theme.
Speaker 1 (55:42):
It sounded like fabulous Mula theme music something like that,
Pat Patson, I don't understand. I believe it was so
it was so bizarre.
Speaker 2 (55:51):
Lawler, Lawler, name drop Mula, So maybe it was a thing.
Speaker 1 (55:56):
I just find like there are people who don't believe
drag queen should read to children, Like I literally saw
a video of a woman asking why people and you know,
drag queens don't read to the homeless or veterans, and
it's like, because there are adults and they can read.
You don't read to adults, you read to children. So
(56:16):
there's that, But there are propab people who don't want
that but will watch this one hundred times. This is
way more offensive than the drag queens reading the children
like like what this was just nonsense? Like this is nothing,
this is nothing nothing.
Speaker 2 (56:37):
The vignettes before, you know, when they're looking for their
outfits or making demands for their outfits, wearing fake boobs.
Speaker 1 (56:45):
You know, I did enjoy Pat Patterson looking for his
dress and his gown and being very particular about what
he was gonna wear.
Speaker 2 (56:54):
Listen, man, I did find that kind of funnies. They
were serious, they want to look sexy.
Speaker 1 (56:59):
I did find that kind of funny. The fashion designer
is like, I can't I can't work miracles. I can't
work miracles, Pat That's crazy.
Speaker 2 (57:09):
Actually, you know, I don't like any of these.
Speaker 4 (57:12):
I'm stuck. I've got to do that.
Speaker 1 (57:14):
I can't help it, you know. And if I'm gonna
do it, I'm gonna do it right. And I'm gonna
look at this dress.
Speaker 4 (57:19):
Undertaker. Can't get into that dress.
Speaker 1 (57:21):
That's undertaker. Look at this.
Speaker 4 (57:23):
This is way too big. Science six would be perfect
for me.
Speaker 1 (57:27):
Black. I don't like.
Speaker 4 (57:28):
This is what my grandmother would wear. I can't take that.
I don't know what is this Michael Jackson's miniscare, Oh
my god, whether I'm gonna chicken die for that. I
need something from Hollywood. I need something that's gonna make
me look thin, sexy. I've got to look better than Bristol.
Speaker 1 (57:48):
I'm the chimp.
Speaker 4 (57:50):
I'm good, but I'm no miracle worker.
Speaker 1 (57:53):
That's crazy. What are you trying to tell me?
Speaker 2 (57:58):
Then they cut. That was like the last saying. I
wanted to know what she was trying to tell them.
Speaker 1 (58:02):
Don't do this match, don't that's what they're trying to
tell y'all.
Speaker 2 (58:08):
His logic is I need to look better because I'm
a champ.
Speaker 1 (58:12):
I mean, I just that'd be that sound logic to me.
If I'm the champ, make me look better than than
the other person, challenger, the challenger. I'm the champ.
Speaker 2 (58:21):
I should be priority exactly.
Speaker 1 (58:22):
I should spend way more time on me, probably no
time on the challenger. Who is that. I'm the champ.
Speaker 2 (58:28):
Let's let's hear the other one. You have to have
to make your emotions.
Speaker 1 (58:32):
I mean, you have a chance to win your hardcore
title backed, but you have to do in the first
ever a hardcore title evening gown.
Speaker 5 (58:40):
Funny coach, you think that's funny, I gotta address like
a woman. You think that's funny. I gotta go out
in front of all these people and address Let me
tell you something, The only emotion I have running through
my head right now is the emotion of revenge.
Speaker 1 (58:56):
Well, technically, Jerry, revenge isn't an emotion.
Speaker 4 (59:00):
It's coach and.
Speaker 5 (59:03):
Show my hardcore title under the guys of friendship.
Speaker 1 (59:07):
That is true.
Speaker 5 (59:09):
Patterson's gonna find out the night that I'm all man.
Speaker 1 (59:15):
And even arrived. Would you like the regular pennies or
the crotchless kinds? What come on? Oh my, they swore
they were funny man. Why would you wear crotchless underwear
to to a hardcore championship?
Speaker 4 (59:34):
Don't sound that?
Speaker 1 (59:36):
Don't sound safe. You should probably make sure all your
stuff is packed up neat for a hardcore championship. It
could be some sharp objects out there, blunt blunt objects too.
You don't want none of that. But yet, during the
match itself, Pat Pattison pulled out a Maxi pad and
rubbed it in Briscoe's face because.
Speaker 2 (59:59):
Just because listen, that wasn't the only thing. They had
a lot of innuendo. Obviously, Pat Patterson also had a
banana they're just stuffing into Brisco's mouth. Like, what are
we doing?
Speaker 1 (01:00:14):
Brisco choked pat Patterson with his own wig, and JR.
Is like somebody sitting at home saying, this ain't wrastling.
I do love JR. When he sees like terrible stuff.
He pretty much agrees that it's terrible. He says it
in his own little way.
Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
That somebody out there is saying what I'm thinking right now.
Speaker 1 (01:00:32):
That's what you're saying, JR. That's what you're saying right now,
trying to project that onto the viewer. Somebody said this
is trash, not me. I love my job. But fortunately,
fortunately as the fans were just booing constantly throughout the match,
(01:00:53):
by the way, there was no positive heat coming out
of this.
Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
Now.
Speaker 1 (01:00:57):
Fortunately, I've never been so happy this He crashed. How
come in with a trash can to make it slightly
more interesting? Or did he? Because he stripped both men
down to their undies the rules of the match? Oh
I forgot that's right. It is an evening gown match.
He got strip him down, but he's not in the match,
so why does it to strip him down? But he
(01:01:18):
does eventually hit pat Patterson with a trash can and
pins him to we gain for the fourteenth time, I
don't know, the Hardcore Championship and like Jr. Said, thank goodness,
it's over.
Speaker 2 (01:01:32):
It might have been the best moment of the night
for me because I'm like, Okay, thankfully that Patterson Brisco
stuff's over. I don't think it was. But at least
Crash is the hardcourt champion and they're gonna do this
twenty four to seven thing. At least it's on a wrestler.
You know. That was kind of my thought process as
a teenager back then, who's super online for two years
at this point, like, yeah, at least somebody will work great.
(01:01:55):
It's got the hard core title.
Speaker 1 (01:01:56):
Now, oh yeah, that work great, which I mean to
eat by all rights, and this might be a hidden
gem of sorts, but Crash got to show off that
work rate against Kurt Angle in the semi finals. There
are a lot of I mean, you didn't really get
to see him just wrestle. He's such a comedic character.
But he goes against Kurt Angle and he gets a
lot of his stuff in all of a sudden, like, oh,
(01:02:18):
you almost forget that Crash Holly could really do this.
So this is a good showing for Crash. Holly in
multiple fronts, in my opinion, exactly rest in peace. My
honorable mention for worst match of the night will go
to the King of the Ring quarterfinal between Rakkeishi and
Chris Pinoit because apparently Benoit did not care about being
King of the Ring. He just wanted to beat the
(01:02:39):
daylights out of Rakishi uh and got himself disqualified. And
it was a short match, you know, there it is.
Speaker 2 (01:02:45):
You know, Rakishi got his ass kits throughout the nights.
It makes me think maybe everybody knew he ran over
snow Cold Seas.
Speaker 1 (01:02:57):
They knew this is revenge.
Speaker 2 (01:03:01):
That's our cash cow man hitting.
Speaker 1 (01:03:03):
The Golden goose. That's funny. They all knew, and that's
why Steve Austin came back ready to trash him somebody.
Speaker 2 (01:03:12):
You know. I remember thinking, like, damn, she's getting his
ass kicked. Tod I like super kicked, you know, And
I was like, oh, yeah, this is technically supposed to
be seven months after he ran over So Cold Steve
Boston and we would to find out for another a
few months.
Speaker 1 (01:03:32):
Yeah. I guess they were. I guess they were protecting
him because he had the arm injury and he got
they got hurt multiple times throughout the day, throughout the
match at the event, I should say, but yeah, he
was getting smoked on this night multiple times with.
Speaker 2 (01:03:49):
The chair val Venus, yeah steps or the steps yeah,
steel steps.
Speaker 1 (01:03:55):
So nuts, man, what they what did they do to y'all?
And then I don't like, oh, yeah, that's crazy. Only
ran Steve over when she met at me for a vow. Venus,
you don't even you were lucky to have a job.
Speaker 2 (01:04:11):
I did it for you guys too, right.
Speaker 1 (01:04:14):
Because he's not here, you're on TV, and when he
comes back, you're not gonna be on TV no more.
So you should have been on my side. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:04:22):
Kurdangle luckily did not try to kill Rakishi.
Speaker 1 (01:04:25):
He's a nice classy man, that kurd Angle. But however,
let's transition to the top nine wrestling happening. He was
not classy to Boston whatsoever. As my top non wrestling
happening is Edge Christian and kurd Angle all clown in
Boston sports.
Speaker 3 (01:04:41):
Obviously, this is a very special night in the life
of your Olympic hero.
Speaker 4 (01:04:49):
Sure we all know.
Speaker 3 (01:04:52):
Because I'm gonna do something in this town. But nowadays
it's practically.
Speaker 4 (01:04:57):
Unheard of do something that the Bruins could not do,
unpics could not do.
Speaker 1 (01:05:06):
We'll get to that. We'll get to that. Don't worry
could not do. Don't don't say it.
Speaker 4 (01:05:11):
Couldn't.
Speaker 1 (01:05:12):
Don't say it.
Speaker 4 (01:05:13):
Tell to think of it. The keys of this town
really do. Suck your lip. Kiro is going to bring
home the big one. And that, my friends, is true.
Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
People here, It's true.
Speaker 4 (01:05:31):
I fat, I'm unemployed. Now get me another.
Speaker 6 (01:05:35):
Bat past yo, kurr Angle is the best. Give me
another bet.
Speaker 1 (01:05:53):
That's so good. I don't know why I think that's
so hilarious.
Speaker 4 (01:05:56):
Fat, I'm unemployed, Now get me another.
Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
You know, he was like practice of that before he
went out there in another B. I typed it out
b e e y a h.
Speaker 1 (01:06:11):
Yeah, that's pretty yeah, b yeah, that's pretty close. Shoutouts
off fans and listening in Boston and by the way,
in Massachusetts throughout the New England area.
Speaker 2 (01:06:19):
At this time.
Speaker 1 (01:06:21):
Sometimes yeah, yeah, exactly, get the Sam Adams or something.
At this time though, kurd Angle wasn't lying. He was
telling the truth. That's the thing about kurd Angle. He
was It's true. It's true because he wasn't lying. At
this point You gotta remember we're in two thousand. At
this point, the Patriots hadn't won any Super Bowls. They
just drafted Tom Brady like two months prior to this,
(01:06:43):
so it's crazy to think about. Right. The Celtics hadn't
won an NBA championship since nineteen eighty six, so we're
going on fourteen years since the Celtics had won a championship.
The Boston Bruins hadn't won a championship since nineteen seventy two.
And of course, to get the Boston Red Sox, who
hadn't won it anything since nineteen eighteen, and they were
fully in the midst of the Curse of the Great Bambino,
(01:07:07):
which you know, terrorized him for almost one hundred years.
Only the Cubs had a one hundred year drought, but
the Red Sox almost got to one hundred years real close.
Later on in the show, Egend, Christian came out to
haunt Boston fans even more by re enacting the error
from Bill Buckner in the nineteen eighty six World Series.
(01:07:28):
That's a wild one.
Speaker 2 (01:07:29):
It's funny because the audio is better for Kurt, so
I don't have the audio of the first one, but Yeah,
My top non wrestling happening is the egend Christian recreating
the nineteen eighty six World Series.
Speaker 1 (01:07:42):
Yeah. One of them is out in the Mets jersey,
the other is out in the Red Sox jersey, and
one of them pretends to hit the ball and the
other just looks between their legs.
Speaker 2 (01:07:54):
Bill Buckner.
Speaker 1 (01:07:56):
For those who didn't know, who don't know, the Red
Sox were playing the New York Mets in the nineteen
eighty six More Series, same as the Celtics won the
last championship before this point. So this Boston went from
almost having two titles to just one. In Game six, though,
with the Red Sox up in the series three to two,
Bill Buckner let her routine ball go through his legs,
(01:08:19):
allowing the Mets to score the game winning run to
extend the series to seven games. And wouldn't you know,
the Red Sox lost Game seven by a score of
eight to five. Damn so the Bill Buckner played who
Bill Buckner I think passed away for the last like
five six years. I gotta look that up. Rest in
(01:08:39):
peace of Bill Buckner, unless hopefully I didn't kill Bill Buckner.
I thought I saw that somewhere let's see, Yeah, Bill
Buckner in twenty nineteen. Okay, so I'm like, all right,
I'm good, but rest in peace, Bill Buckner. It's a
shame that, you know, that's pretty much what he's kind
of known for. You know, he's a really good ball
player back in the day, the same for like a
(01:09:01):
Scott Nora Wood from the Bills and mister field goal.
But he's a great kicker. But that one play kind
of haunts you, unfortunately. But look, don't it's not all
sad for Boston, all right, because things would change, as
Nick kind of alluded to earlier when he's rattling off years, right,
because starting just that damn February February two thousand and one,
that Tom Brady guy, I guess it wouldn't be February
(01:09:23):
two thousand one to be February two thousand and two.
So two thousand and one into February two thousand and two,
this Tom Brady guy gets into the starting lineup for
the Patriots, and all of a sudden, they wouldn't have
a Super Bowl. And mind you, by this point, the
Patriots are probably the fourth team in town. Like if
the Red Sox are one, maybe the Celtics are two,
The Bruins are probably three. The Patriots are firmly four
(01:09:46):
because they hadn't won anything and it hadn't been really
any sort of good outside of eighty five and ninety
six when they went to the Super Bowl. They lost
to those in those Super Bowls Packers, Packers or Bears
of eighties. Eighty six one was the Packers against bretfiv.
Speaker 2 (01:10:01):
I was like eighty paid attention to.
Speaker 1 (01:10:03):
But the one before that was against the eighty five Bears,
so forty six to ten. It wasn't pretty, It was
not pretty, but so them winning was like WHOA look
at the Patriots, right? And then the ultimate happened a
couple years later in two thousand and four, when the
Red Sox finally broke the curse.
Speaker 2 (01:10:22):
Everybody was a Red Sox fan beat up to the Yankees, man, I.
Speaker 1 (01:10:28):
Guess, And when they were down three to zero in
the ALCS, and then they just so excited. Then they
just swept the Cardinals in the World Series, uh for nothing,
And then won the World Series and then won and
again in twenty two thousand and seven, and then again
in twenty thirteen, and then again in towards twenty eighteen,
I think they won another one. Jesus, So Boston fans
(01:10:48):
enjoyed some championships, right, because of course the Patriots, you know,
they won six, okay in the last twenty five years.
Let's not forget about the Celtics who ended their drought
in two thousan Oh by the way, just one another
one in twenty twenty four. I don't know about twenty
twenty five or twenty twenty six. We know twenty twenty
five is out, but twenty twenty six we'll see, because
(01:11:08):
Jason Tatum has hart with the Achilles injury, and even
the brust on the board loading some guys, that's true,
traded porzingis traded what's his name, Drew Holliday. But even
the Bruins got on the board in twenty eleven.
Speaker 2 (01:11:20):
They've been in the finals I think two or three times,
so something like that. I mean, I know they went
back at least one more time. Lost.
Speaker 1 (01:11:28):
Yeah they lost, Yeah, but they haven't won since twenty eleven.
And now here's the thing, though, I'm not sure how
many titles the teams are going to win though in
the next in the near future. It was a good
twenty five year stretched though for Boston sports all right,
great twenty five year stretch. I mean if Philly had
a stretch like that, I mean, people will be in heaven,
(01:11:50):
right yeah, but it happened in Boston. The thing is, though,
the Patriots, how close are they really to winning another
Super Bowl? I don't know. I mean, Drake may is good,
but like you know, like Ray Rollo, they're still playing
in the same division with Josh Allen, playing in the
same conference, with Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson and Joe
Burrow who wasn't even in the playoffs last year. Justin Herbert.
(01:12:13):
Let's not forget about the Denver Broncos are pretty good now.
They went to the playoffs last year with the bow Knicks.
You know, there's some good teams, you know, Aaron Rodgers
and Steelers. Can't forget that two as healthy, the Dolphins
could be good. So it's just the thing is, it's
tough to do. And to me, it feels like the
Patriots right now feel like post Jordan Bulls when Jordan
(01:12:36):
won six championships and once he left, it was like, well,
they're just another team now, just another normal team again.
Welcome back to the pack. Yeah, their organization for the
Bulls didn't necessarily nail the succession plan for the Bulls,
and uh, you know, probably the Patriots same thing. Probably
won't contend for at least for a title for a while,
(01:12:59):
but you know the whole. But Mike Rabel turns it around,
of course, you know, so we'll see. But yeah, Boston
getting torn apart by Edguencreation and Kurt Angle was my
top man wrestling happening, and I'm glad to see yours
was pretty much the same thing. What was your worst
un wrestling happening? Already talked about mine, but what was yours?
Speaker 2 (01:13:15):
I'll play it for you.
Speaker 4 (01:13:18):
It was a quarantine can chuck it a style out
in Madison Square.
Speaker 1 (01:13:22):
Garden with a ww ah man was on hand.
Speaker 4 (01:13:25):
Why know you were there, right, and the.
Speaker 1 (01:13:27):
King caught off buddies and gentlemen. An old friend of mine.
Speaker 4 (01:13:32):
He used the loan money to every now and then.
Speaker 1 (01:13:35):
That wasn't a joke, of course, other than seeing me.
Speaker 4 (01:13:43):
What brings you out here tonight to the garden? Well,
I'm a great friend of Vince. We know, and we
love it, We really love it. Who's your favorite superstar? Well,
I think other than you, I'd have to go with
the rock.
Speaker 1 (01:14:01):
A smart choice.
Speaker 5 (01:14:03):
That was.
Speaker 2 (01:14:05):
Really a sturdy just the same thing had last night.
Speaker 4 (01:14:09):
I've got several of the what's the matter.
Speaker 2 (01:14:12):
With my mind?
Speaker 4 (01:14:15):
What about Donald?
Speaker 2 (01:14:16):
Though?
Speaker 1 (01:14:16):
Huh, hanging around with the King? I was looking on
to oh yeah, oh yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:14:21):
Should not run for president? He should.
Speaker 2 (01:14:25):
Wait yeah, he said, that was the line.
Speaker 1 (01:14:31):
That was the line he said, Donald Trump should not
run for president. Donald didn't listen to jaredy King Lawler.
He did it twice? Did it three times? Honestly, think
about it? Uh, Instead he should run for King of
New York. And Trump heard that and said, what about
King of what about King of America? We get New York.
(01:14:53):
Let's go bigger, Let's go King of America. So there's that.
But I didn't I have that as my worst non
wrestling happening. I just had as a random thought. But
we did get a lot more visuals of Donald Trump
on the show than I was expecting, yes to even remember,
no recollection at all. And of course, you know, need
less to say that McMahon Trump relationship runs deep. Linda
(01:15:16):
McMahon at this point she was on the show, was
only the CEO of w W f back then. Now
she runs the Department of Education in the United States,
and you can not from here. You're probably wondering why.
I can't tell you why. I mean, I can tell
you why, but we don't have all day. But let's
move on to any hidden gems in or out of
(01:15:37):
the ring.
Speaker 2 (01:15:37):
Good set, Eddie Grrero Valvidez.
Speaker 1 (01:15:39):
I thought it was a really fun match, man, I
one hundred percent agree.
Speaker 2 (01:15:42):
I love that China and trist didn't really take away
from either even though they got involved, it didn't feel
like they were a focal point.
Speaker 1 (01:15:51):
But it was good that they got involved because they're
they're capable, so I'm glad that they did give them
something to do while they're out there.
Speaker 2 (01:15:57):
Yeah, not a lot of wasted time. I put a
lot of fluidity, you know, fast paced. You know, we
didn't get these types of matches in this era ofwe
like it was just quick matches here, a quick batch
and even after Vince Russo left, you know, they were
they didn't really expand the match lengths. You know, it
(01:16:17):
was kind of a lot of the same. So I thought, like,
when you get time to work, you're usually hit. The
match is going to be pretty pretty good and when
you have guys like Eddie Guerrero, and I thought Valvinez
was good in the ring back then, you know, from
ninety eight to you know, maybe two thousand, two thousand
and one. I don't think he was bad in the
ring at all. So it kind of just messed pretty
(01:16:37):
well for King of the Ring quarterfinal that I'm sure
nobody remembers, but I thought it was a hit and
gam on this show.
Speaker 1 (01:16:44):
This this is like the quintessential hitten gym because if
you told me, do you remember the King of the
Ring quarter finals from two thousand, I'm like, hell no,
I don't remember that.
Speaker 2 (01:16:52):
I remember they had quarter finals on here. I thought
it still it was just like semifinals and finals. I
was surprised to have finals on here if.
Speaker 1 (01:16:59):
You asked me about the core, Like I didn't watch
that episode of Raw. I don't remember that episode of
Raw or SmackDown, but yeah, it was on a pay
per view. Don't remember this at all, but having watched
it back twenty five years later, yeah, I enjoyed it.
And Valvin is one with a Fisherman's sup plex, which
is kind of surprised.
Speaker 2 (01:17:14):
I'm a mark for the perfect plex I always call
it perfect flex.
Speaker 1 (01:17:18):
I'm not calling it the perfect plex unless mister perfect
does it. It's a Fisherman's suplex and other people do it,
but it's the perfect plex when Kurt Henning does it
because he doesn't perfectly.
Speaker 2 (01:17:28):
I was like, why doesn't every wrestler, why don't they
use this move? Like it's such a good penning combination.
But I guess not everyone can.
Speaker 1 (01:17:36):
Not everyone could be perfect man, not like Kurt Hennick
and Sean Stasy Act. At least you know what I'm saying,
like perfect Sean staysy Act. Let's move on to random thoughts.
We spent all this time talking about the King in
the Ring without talking about the actual King.
Speaker 6 (01:17:54):
Of the Ring.
Speaker 1 (01:17:56):
The tournament itself. Did you have any thoughts about tournament
which ended with Kurt Angle defeating Rikishi to be crowned
the two thousand King of the Ring? Any thoughts on
a tournament? And what were your thoughts on king Kurt
as a winner?
Speaker 2 (01:18:12):
I liked it. I hated an Angle back then, but
like it was a like a sports hate type. I
was just like, he's really entertaining, but I don't want
to see him win type thing because he's so entertaining,
like on the bike and like even Dora matches when
he complains and stuff. I was just like, this guy's
like hilarious. I just don't want to see him win
because he's a heel. But him winning the King of
(01:18:32):
the Ring. I didn't like Billy Young winning the previous year.
I thought it was lame for like a heel to win.
And again, like I felt like heels won a lot.
You know, early you had Owen Hart ninety four, ninety
five was Babel ninety six so cold as a heel
that he still wasn't like the Stoll call Steve Bawson
(01:18:53):
that we really know, and then ninety seven was Hunter Herselpsley,
and then ninety eight you had Ken Shamrock, and then
ninety nine was Billy Gon. So I'm just like, man like,
it's heel heavy, heal heavy, heal heavy. But I was
fine with Kurt winning like an entertaining heel, at least
for me. I wasn't like, oh, one might have been
the closest entertaining heel to me that won it, but
I still hated him like a ninety four and I
(01:19:14):
was a younger kid, and I was just like he's
so mean to Brett, you know, like I hate him
and so yeah, and the tournament, you know, you have
like a regular tournament instead of like just you know,
eight matches or four matches and then three matches. I
don't know, I liked the tournament or even though there
were a lot of short matches, I just like, oh yeah,
(01:19:35):
they had more of tournament matches on the show and
then obviously on TV prior to that. So I thought
it was a good tournament for that year.
Speaker 1 (01:19:46):
Of the first two rounds, the first the only matches
that were over five minutes. It was only two matches
that was only over five minutes in the first two rounds.
The only it looks like I found three four or
I count five matches without the whole tournament that were
over five minutes.
Speaker 2 (01:20:04):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (01:20:05):
Uh. And again, this was a thirty two person tournament.
Thirty one men, one woman too many. In my opinion,
you don't need thirty two people in the King of
the Ring. I'm sorry. This is how we got Bubba
Rady the tournament.
Speaker 2 (01:20:15):
Maybe they felt because they had SmackDown, because this is
the first year they had both raw and SmackDown before
the kick of the Rings. So maybe they thought they
would need more for TV, but I guess.
Speaker 1 (01:20:24):
They did not.
Speaker 2 (01:20:25):
We don't need We don't need too.
Speaker 1 (01:20:27):
They did not. You got Bubba and and Devon in here,
Big boss Man, grandmass A, sex A, Sean McMahon, De Malenko,
Al Snow, Matt Hardy. In two thousand and China beat
the Godfather. China got all the way to the well,
she got to the second round and then lost Eddie Guerrero.
So there's that. But yeah, just just too many people,
(01:20:49):
way too many people in the tournament. Sixteen. I think
it is a good number, and I'm good either way,
whether you want to do single elimination or fatal four ways,
I see the value in both.
Speaker 4 (01:20:58):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:20:58):
Speaking of we mentioned this already. He's the one backstage
calling himself Joe Cool because he's supposed to be chill
during this six man tag and triplation, Shane was immediately
like he ain't gonna be cool, and he wasn't. He
lost the title for everybody only at a King of
the Ring. Can we get Bull Buchanan versus Crash Holly
(01:21:21):
Man on pay per view?
Speaker 2 (01:21:24):
I guess that's the thing you're run into when you
have like the quarterfinals on pay per view as well.
Speaker 1 (01:21:29):
This is why you shouldn't do it. This is why
you shouldn't do it. That's a TV match if I've
ever seen one. Another random note is that Mick Foley
and Ivory were at WWF New York with Ivory behind
the bar serving drinks. Unlike Jerry Lynn, Ivory seemed to
be having a great time with it. She's back there
(01:21:51):
with a big smile serving up the drinks. At least
she looked like she was serving drinks, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:21:57):
Cocktail for JR.
Speaker 1 (01:22:07):
That'd be eight dollars. That's crazy. Yeah, Jerry Lynn really
really really blew that promo.
Speaker 2 (01:22:14):
Every time every time we go to w F New York.
Now I'm gonna remember that Jerry Lyne promo judgment.
Speaker 1 (01:22:22):
Just a good enough promo, j R. It's like, yeah, Jerry,
that's your job. That's a cut promos And if you
don't want to do him, then maybe you shouldn't work here.
That's part of the gig. Man.
Speaker 2 (01:22:37):
Can you imagine Ivory or Bick Foley taking the taste
of that.
Speaker 1 (01:22:41):
Can you imagine can you imagine somebody watching themselves self
sabotage the career in front of everybody because they were
just poudy and mad about it. Like I understand, I'm stannna.
I get the frustration that he had. I understand he
wanted to be on the show, but like they gave
you the right he was and they gave you the
(01:23:03):
mic bro like, prove him wrong. Here, prove him that
proved to them now that they should have had you
on the show because you cut such a great promo.
I want to see what you're about to do next.
Instead you went judge and they wondered why nobody didn't
get booked again, Like I felt like self sabotaged.
Speaker 2 (01:23:22):
Right before WrestleMania, Carry and Cross watched that. It's like,
I am not going to do.
Speaker 1 (01:23:26):
That exactly when I get a shot to make it,
I'm gonna do my best. I'm gonna put my best.
Speaker 2 (01:23:32):
Look at him, look at look at him.
Speaker 1 (01:23:35):
Look at Carrion getting a pl match after just not
tanking the promo because he was mad, outrageous stuff. But uh,
Mick Foley, by the way, was retired. I guess he
didn't care. This is uh commission to Foley? Was he
commissioned to folio yet?
Speaker 2 (01:23:52):
Because so he said he had a business meeting in Connecticut.
That was what it was.
Speaker 1 (01:23:57):
The next day he becomes a commissioner. Pretty yeah, commissioner
with the shirt because commissioner didn't get all the way
down the shirt to the er and his office would
be like a forklift or something like that. You have
a gavel. Commissioner Foley was. It was a good time.
It was a good time.
Speaker 2 (01:24:18):
I did not appreciate it back then, but I do now.
Speaker 1 (01:24:22):
No, I appreciated it back then. I did like commissioner
fully and banged the gavel. He was a commissioner for
a while too. I feel like his commissioner for a
good bit.
Speaker 2 (01:24:31):
Because he did the Vincent ther fire thing. I think
it was. I don't think it was in September because
that would have felt really sure, so maybe it was December.
Speaker 1 (01:24:40):
But I forget, and I just know that William Regal
replaced him as the commissioner and he was good too,
to got me wrong. But Nick Foley was fun. It
was fun. Another note is that Chris Strattus didn't have
any matches on the show, but she made two appearances
and took a bump in each of them. She was
a manager for Valvinus and the King of the Ring quarterfinal,
(01:25:01):
and then she managed TNA testing Albert in their fatal
was it a fatal four way tag team match for
the tag title elimination. So we look at that just
talking about fatal four ways and how they used to
throw them out there, and here we are fatal four
elimination for what. But she was out there with them
for that, and she took a bump in each match.
(01:25:22):
She got dragged off the apron and the Valvenus Edit
Guerrero match and then Leda knocked her down in the
tag title match, and China should say dragged off the
apron in the first match.
Speaker 2 (01:25:33):
I think in that in that Valvenus Edie Guerrero match,
some fan you hear off camera says I want to
see some TNA, and then Mike picks it up and
then j R. Discovering for it, saying Trician shouting words
of encouragement to Alvino. I thought that was funny.
Speaker 1 (01:25:52):
Words of encouragement.
Speaker 2 (01:25:54):
She wasn't even talking, like the camera was on her,
but then she was just kind of looking. She was
not shouting, So I guess JR. Wanted to and I'm
sure somebody the deeper voice and clearly not your status.
It's very very audible, so kind of ignore that.
Speaker 1 (01:26:13):
There you go, uh elsewhere Scotty too Hottie came out
for the tag title match wearing the belt upside down.
I don't know if you noticed that. I'm not sure
if he did it on purpose or he just made
a mistake. It feels like a purposeful thing, though right
where you remember at this time, he could have been
(01:26:37):
trying to be fun and hip. He's already doing the
spiked hair and the bucket hat with the hair sticking out.
The bucket hat and bucket hatch has seen as like
some hip hopper type thing. Nowadays, it's like not that
at all, well at least not to some people. He
had the baggy jeans and everything like that. But maybe
the upside down title was part of that whole deal.
(01:26:58):
Because remember this is when football people used to wear
football and basketball jerseys backwards for fashion, Like Chris Cross
was doing that in the early nineties, and then Nelly
started doing it, like in the late nineties. Around this time,
he was wearing like Rams jerseys backwards and people were like,
that's cool, I want to see the person's name on
the front, like so that could have been part of
(01:27:19):
that and kind of like at this time hip hop
was sort of seen it's not mainstream as much as
it was like anti culture, like we're gonna flip the
rules around with hip hop. I guess maybe that's what
Scotty Too Hot he was going for. I don't know
either way. The belt he was wearing was upside down
and too cool. Never saw the tag team titles ever again,
(01:27:40):
so maybe that had something to do with it. I
don't know. Maybe maybe oh I should say grand Mess
Sexe and Scotty's Too Hoty didn't because Scottie Too Hotty
did winning with Rakishi again later on down the lines.
Speaking of Scotti, it didn't matter what he did because
he had the arguably the most overmove and pro wrestling
at the time, the worm pause. Uh super old. I mean,
(01:28:06):
the People's elbow and the stunner were probably one in
one a, but the worm was like right there. I mean,
kids were trying to at recess all the time in
my school. I don't know about yours, but like I
don't kids who could do it, they tried it.
Speaker 2 (01:28:18):
I don't get it. Why is it just as popular
as like the People's elbow or you know, like Scotty.
Was Scotty too hot Like I just don't get it.
I don't know, not like being me. I didn't think
it was just like terrible. I just don't know why
it was so popular.
Speaker 1 (01:28:37):
People just liked I don't know. They'd like the theatrics
his face when he would do the little bulldog and
he would just light up in position he's in a position, yeah,
and he would jump up. He would do like the
little like his stompers feet a little bit, and then
he'd do this ridiculous jump and just spell out worm
and people would got into it. Some make a chant
(01:28:57):
along with him who he did the worm. He would
do it always. It's kind of impressive to see somebody,
anybody do the worm, not alone. Scott is too hotty,
you know. And then he would get up and do
the arms. I don't know what the arm thing wants
and go and then it would just slap people in
(01:29:18):
the chest after all of that, but just go and
he would be everybody with that. I'm pretty sure you'd
be big show with that one time, unstoppable. He would
be everybody with that move. But yeah, I don't know, man,
people just got behind it. It was fan interaction.
Speaker 4 (01:29:35):
It was fun.
Speaker 1 (01:29:36):
It was goofy people dug it, man. I mean the
People's elbow also is goofy too when you really think
about it. Takes it takes all the time in the
world to pull off the move, and it's still is
super devastating. Meanwhile, he could have been got up and
moved like the Rock did on this night, playing Possible exactly.
(01:29:58):
But everybody else is like, oh, I'm so I'm so
beat up.
Speaker 2 (01:30:00):
I can't I can't move to the side.
Speaker 1 (01:30:03):
I am paralyzed to the mat right now. And I Oh,
there goes to rock. Oh there it goes again. Oh no,
it comes to the elbow.
Speaker 2 (01:30:11):
I gotta I want to know is there a story
out there as to how the People's elbow came to be?
Speaker 1 (01:30:17):
Because I think it's like something he just started doing
on the house shows, and.
Speaker 2 (01:30:22):
Like it's TV though it's so like you're watching, You're like, oh,
like they'll get up, they'll get up, And to have
like so many big wins just from an elbow to
the chest just it makes me laugh. I was like,
it's just a visual is extremely funny.
Speaker 1 (01:30:37):
That's why they call it sports entertainmentutes And sometimes I
got to entertain the folks too, And there's nothing more
entertainment than the Worm. This is far cry from you know,
territory wrestling, you know working stiff and hardcore wrestling and
death matches and you know Japanese styles strong style. None
(01:31:01):
of that. No, no, no, no no. We're going full
entertainment mode here with the Worm. Even the finish of
the mood, the payoff, it's just a slap across the chest.
At the end of the day, it's pat It's a
quick little's kind of smacking you down. He's falling, putting
his whole weight behind it. He's falling to the ground.
But like at the end of the day, that's what
(01:31:21):
it is. I mean, it probably cave in my chest.
But like these wrestlers are big, you know, they work
out every day. Unless he's just really strong with that
slapow on your chest, I don't, I don't. I understand
your concern in your confusion, but sometimes you just gotta
roll with it, man, and they rolled with it.
Speaker 2 (01:31:41):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:31:41):
We got a weird, fully loaded commercial, I thought during
the show, which is all about the desire to be
a champion, and it's like that wasn't this wasn't Night
of Champions. So why y'all doing this? I fully loaded.
I don't get it.
Speaker 2 (01:31:55):
I with that. I felt a simple to you about
the WWF dot com relaunch.
Speaker 1 (01:32:04):
Oh man, that was strange? Was that again? I just
wrote that it was weird. I think I just kind
of like, I'm not taking notes on his kinds. It's
so weird, but please remind me.
Speaker 2 (01:32:15):
He a guy is in a cannon, gets shot out
of a cannon. I guess, you know, launching, And apparently
they could have relaunched WWF dot com the next Monday morning,
and he landed in uh Bigger Ladies apartment house, landed
right between her legs while she's having popcorn watching TV
(01:32:38):
and she's enjoying it. I guess he's unconscious because he
doesn't move, but he's his head's right between her legs.
Speaker 1 (01:32:44):
So, and that's how you launch a new website Attitude Baby.
That's bizarre stuff. How did ww survive doing stupid stuff
like this? I don't get it. What were we on
as a society back in two thousand that commercials like
this were acceptable to the public?
Speaker 2 (01:33:01):
And then we were like surprised at first, and then
she starts stuffing her mouth with popcorn again. She's enjoying it.
Speaker 1 (01:33:08):
Strange stuff, real strange stuff going on over at WWF
dot com at at this point. And let's see here
another note that I had road Dog being put through
two tables. That was pretty awesome, but that was a
spot d X still won because they put the Dudleys
(01:33:29):
in a dumpster. That was a dumb match. Could have
been the worst match of the night, but it was worse.
Speaker 2 (01:33:35):
I mean it was close. They had the exits, you know,
on both sides. That's how Tory got out. But it's like,
you could have just gotten out, but.
Speaker 1 (01:33:45):
I don't know. And then after the match, Tory just
stays in the ring while the Dudley boys beat up
her homies. Like when they give XPOC and road Dog
to three D that was her time to run. They're
not looking at you, They're literally off their feet, and
she just stays there like a damsel in distress and
a horror movie like.
Speaker 2 (01:34:04):
The table with her name on it, just run, run.
Speaker 1 (01:34:10):
I feel like I'm watching a horror movie when the
final girl is running and she just randomly falls on nothing.
He's running on smooth asphalt and he goes oh. And
then Jason who's like a mile away at the time
of the fall. By the time she gets up, he's
right there, like boom, I'm here. But that's how it felt.
She just like was frozen with fear. Get out of there.
(01:34:32):
It was just uncomfortable to watch. It was uncomfortable. And
then they put it through the table and Bubba's taking
his tongue out and it's like almost turned the TV off.
Speaker 5 (01:34:39):
Bro.
Speaker 2 (01:34:39):
Yeah, that was you know, Devon doing his little wasop
thing and did it to her and stayed there.
Speaker 1 (01:34:47):
Just terrible, terrible stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:34:49):
Not great.
Speaker 1 (01:34:51):
Treatment of the women on this show that belonged in
ww and yet there was WWF looking goofy.
Speaker 2 (01:35:02):
I mean, but this might be the worst show of
twenty of two thousand for WWF. I mean, they were rocking,
and I remember not liking this show, you know, after
it happened, I was kind of like a but ww
was so much worse that everyone's like, oh yeah, like
I prefer this still, And they could have basically gotten
(01:35:24):
away with anything and people would have ate it up.
And I'm sure I was one of those people.
Speaker 1 (01:35:31):
I was too in June of two thousand, for sure.
But that's all the notes I have.
Speaker 2 (01:35:39):
Scot's The USA Today ran a funny little story comparing
wrestling to baseball. They highlighted that a little bit with
The Rock and Mike Piazza. Apparently I did not read this,
but you know, they just highlighted it and they were
going back and forth joking about the real national pastime,
so wrestling or baseball. And so Mike Piasa was on
(01:36:03):
the Mets at this time. I remember wanting him as
a Phillies so bad. Like back then, I was like
he if I I never really have a favorite player,
you know, even growing up, it's not like one person
I loved. I just liked the team above all. But
Mike Piassa was like a guy where I was like,
I I would love that guy all my team, like
I would. I followed him to you know, from when
(01:36:26):
he was with the Dodgers and the Phillies would go
there and I'm like, damn, Mike Piassa is like amazing.
And then he got traded to the Marlins. I don't
think if he played for them. It was like maybe
one game, but I don't think he ever played for them,
because he got traded right to the Mets after that
and then was a Met, and I used to get
Mets games in my South Jersey home, you know, like
I got a New York channel that the Mets played on,
(01:36:48):
So I did watch a lot of Mets games. So
it sucked as a Phillies fan because they were bad
most of my childhood. You know. Ninety three was the
first year i'd watched, so that was good year. And
I wasn't watching like every single game, you know, like
I'm you know, eight years old, and as a Phillies fan,
(01:37:09):
you have the Braves on TBS like every night basically,
and then the Mets, you know, on the whatever New
York station we had in South Jersey on my cable
provider had, and so I was watching a lot of
Braves and Mets baseball too, you know, as a Phillies fan,
it kind of sucks because like they were good, better
(01:37:30):
than the Phillies at least, so kind of happy. I
didn't turn into a Braves or Mets fan, but I
did like baseball, so I would watch that, and obviously
it's their broadcasts, so if the Braves won, it's not
like I would get mad the way I do now.
We're like a troll and stuff. If they lose I
wouldn't do any of that, but I wouldn't get like
(01:37:51):
mad if they lost. I wouldn't be happy that they lost,
or I wouldn't get mad if they won. So it
was just like, oh, Braves and Mets, you know, like, Okay,
it's baseball and I'll watch it and I'll probably watch
these guys in the playoffs. So it was fun. It
was fun watching more baseball then I do, uh or
(01:38:12):
I did you know? Back then, like you don't. We
didn't have the internet, so we just had TV, and
it was like I could watch three baseball games, you know, switched.
A lot of the Mets games were the day games,
I think, so it wasn't like every single Mets game,
but some of the day game the way there you
know they split a stations now a little bit up
there and New York. I think it was like the same.
(01:38:33):
So whatever channel we had, the Mets were on. So
I thought it was funny. You see this little thing
about USA today running a story comparing with two I
was like, whatever, what.
Speaker 1 (01:38:44):
A goofy story that must have been.
Speaker 2 (01:38:46):
It must have been.
Speaker 1 (01:38:46):
I hadn't read it neither. But no consideration for football,
I guess, is it just like popular, It's more popular
than wrestling at that point for sure. Look, rest it
was very popular. It's still in two thousand, but we're
talking about football. We're talking about the thirty fourth Super
Bowl was just played. You think that was not the
(01:39:09):
massive sporting event it still is, Like yeah, like people
forget how popular football was in the nineties. When did
it take over as the national pastime? Probably about this time.
It wasn't baseball at this point. Honestly, I don't think
it was. I think football had already either had taken
over or begun to take over.
Speaker 2 (01:39:27):
Yeah, we're like two years removed from that home run
chase of Mark McGwire Sammie, so like that's fed a
lot of fans, and maybe it was like, oh, it's
only been two years, but I'm sure it wasn't like
as popular.
Speaker 1 (01:39:39):
I will say that the new like great age of
quarterbacks was also hadn't started yet by this point when
you're talking about out the out the door went and
around the same time, Dan Marino, Troy Aikman, Steve Young,
Jim Kelly all gone around the same time. Joe Montana
was done in the early nineties. So you great quarterbacks
(01:40:01):
weren't really there. You had Kurt Warner in like ninety nine,
Donovan McNabb who was just starting. So really not even
Donovan McNabb, honestly, maybe Jeff Garcia all right, Mark Brunell
and like and Drew Bludsoe or something like that. Like
it was only nothing that he had just started. It
(01:40:22):
just started coming on in like ninety nine, two thousand,
but by like.
Speaker 2 (01:40:25):
Two thousand with him and Randall, Right, Randall was like there,
but right, him and Cunningham and Culpepper were there at
the same.
Speaker 1 (01:40:33):
Time, right, I don't know if they were.
Speaker 2 (01:40:35):
Honestly, I remember I had a neighbor that was a
Vikings fan, and you know, Randall Cunningham. I was like, oh, yeah,
I know that name.
Speaker 1 (01:40:41):
They could have been. I honestly don't know. But also
I forgot to mention that Peyton Manning was drafted in
thatty eight. But once you move forward to like oh
three or four or five, and it was six, then
you get Tom Brady, you get Peyton Manning at the
peak of his powers. You start to get like a
Eli Manning starts coming up Peyton and not Peyton Manning. Roethlisberger,
Philip Rivers, Drew Brees, like this next golden age of
(01:41:04):
great quarterbacks and great football. Of course McNabb was still
around for a while, and there's others I'm probably forgetting
on the top of my head that I can't think
of right now. Uh, you know, and eventually you had
another age with Stafford and all the other guys after that.
So so yeah, this time, maybe there's still a little
bit of a debate because the best quarterback in the
league right now is Kurt Warner, and nobody knew who
(01:41:24):
the hell he was like a year prior, right Uh,
And I don't even know who would be the second
best quarterback at this point in time, Steve McNair, you know,
maybe like who they'd just beating the super Bowl Super
Bowl so and then again in two thousand season the
Super Bowl Quarterbacks with Trent Dilferd and Carry Collins, like,
you know. So what I'm saying, like it was a
(01:41:44):
little bit of a rough time. Rich Gannon was around still,
rich Gannon was nice. Uh he won an MVP, But yeah,
it was a little bit of a rough time I
think for quarterbacks, and I think that kind of drives
the popularity at least it did at that point, And
what doesn't hurt Now that the NFL has Patrick Mahomes
and Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts and
Joe Burrow and on and on, there's a lot of
(01:42:06):
good quarterbacks that they can build around. They're not a
good players in general, but I think at this little time,
a little slice of time, there was a little bit
of a lack of star power maybe in the NFL
that wouldn't exist just a couple of years later, I
should say. But yeah, any other random thoughts from you.
Speaker 2 (01:42:25):
I thought it was funny that they cut away from
Triple Ah's water spit spot in the main event to
show Stephanie for some reason. I was like, you missed
the water spit.
Speaker 1 (01:42:33):
Can't miss that the hell, that's a part of the entrance.
Speaker 2 (01:42:36):
Yeah, Kevin done? What are we doing? What are we doing?
It was kind of annoying at w F New York.
Bick Foley could not hear anything. They were so loud
and it's like they were talking to him and he's
just kind of like sitting there, like delayed reactions and
stuff like that. It's like he can't hear you. Man
and Waller was trying to crack jokes and Folly would
(01:42:57):
not like react at all, and I was like, all right,
like get away from I just hate when it's like
you see that they're doing a spot, why so loud?
Speaker 4 (01:43:05):
Man?
Speaker 2 (01:43:06):
Like I never understood that even as a kid, and
I still don't understand it now. And someone's doing like
a live shot of something, Why are you in the
background acting like a fool man? Just stop? It frustrated me,
just like the tags and the handicap dumpster match didn't
make sense. Tags in the main event, man, there's no
(01:43:27):
logical explanation for the way that main event went. There's
no logical explanation for Earl Hebner being the referee in
that match because he didn't care who the legal man was.
I'd still I don't know understand why. I guess they
felt like they didn't need to pay attention to that crap.
But it's so like you, it's so obvious when you,
(01:43:49):
even as you're watching it as a fan, if you're
not literally like paying attention at least you pay attention
to who tags in and out. It's like it's literally
you could have just been a six pack challenge and
then any fall attempt would have been legal, So I
just it was so annoying watching it because of just
how the stipulation was so for me, Like, that's a
(01:44:11):
big reason why it was not my match of the night. Obviously.
The ending with the Rock winning was Honestly, I didn't
expect that. I'm not sure anyone expected him to actually
lose the title for triple HS too. But again, he
wouldn't be champion for another two years after this, you know,
you think, like, oh, an ending like that, he probably
won the title back pretty shortly after that, at least once. No,
(01:44:33):
the last time he was championed obviously aided by a
quad injury, was when he beat Chris Jericho a Restulmaty eighteen.
Kind of wild.
Speaker 1 (01:44:42):
That is kind of wild, especially because he was such
a central figure at this point that he went so
long without winning it again.
Speaker 2 (01:44:48):
Yeah, he did get hurt and one, Yeah, it was
a while after that. So yeah, May of two thousand
and one is when he tore the quad. So yeah,
it was you would think, oh, before May two thousand one,
he probably want it back.
Speaker 1 (01:45:01):
Nope, I got some little bit of breaking news by
the way in the show with uh, it's not really
breaking because it's been up for the announce been announced
for about two hours now. But the wing bull is
coming back? Did you know this? Not WP though, right, No,
it's gonna be. It looks like.
Speaker 2 (01:45:21):
That Cheerleaders or something or the Lilah's right.
Speaker 1 (01:45:25):
Crossing Broad announced it, so maybe it's them hosting it,
but no, no info on the site. Just was taking
place at the Plaza Hotel Casino in Las Vegas.
Speaker 2 (01:45:37):
What Las Vegas?
Speaker 1 (01:45:41):
Yeah, wing Bulls. Here's the post. Some Crossing Broad Wing
Bowl is back, but not in Philly. It's taking place
at the Plaza Las Vegas in February twenty twenty six.
Same competition, different location, more info on the site. So yeah,
the Plaza hote Hell and Casinos bringing the lost, bringing
(01:46:02):
to Las Vegas the iconic Wing Bowl, the premier chicken
wing competition that was founded in Philadelphia. The main event,
Wing Bowl twenty twenty six, will take place on February seven,
twenty twenty six. So we got a whole episode about
the Wing Boy. You can watch it, you can listen
to I said not watch listen to any archives there,
so go check that out. But yeah, surprising for sure.
(01:46:28):
But any other notes from King of the Ring two thousand.
Speaker 2 (01:46:35):
Check. Let me check. We got the talks about Rakishi
getting killed all night. Yeah, that was wild. That was wild.
I was just like man Teddy Long sighting as a referee.
I don't know if he did more than one match,
but he was the referee for the Cardangle Chris Cherco match,
so I don't remember him how many you know times
(01:47:00):
he reffed back then, And I just remember that guy
looks familiar. And I had a card, a WCW card
of him for when he was in WCW, like a
trading card, and I was like, oh, Teddy Long, It's
like that guy looks familiar. And obviously they never called
the referees by their names at this point, so they
never called Teddy Long Teddy Long. So I was like,
maybe I'm going insane, but that looks like Teddy Long.
(01:47:23):
And it's like the Internet wasn't really like talking much
about referees and stuff, like at least where I was,
you know, commiserating about wrestling. Yeah, so I always liked
pointing out when Teddy Long was a referee for some reason.
It just makes me feel like it was like my
first like insider thing where I was like, I know
that guy from wcw OLD, but yeah, that's all I got.
Speaker 1 (01:47:51):
