Nkechi Taifa of the Reparation Education Project joined us April 22 for a discussion of a recent United Nations forum dealing with reparations for Africa, the Caribbean and the Diaspora.

Straight Words hosts Naba'a Richard Muhammad and James G. Muhammad engaged in a discussion with the longtime fighter for reparations and attorney.

Atty. Taifa shared her main points as an official participants in the April 2025 fourth Permanent Forum on People of African Descent, which was a four-day event held at UN headquarters in New York.

One of her major points was the UN “must and can continue to be a space where civil society and government meet as equals helping to shape, not shadow, global reparations agendas.”

Questions were asked about whether the work at the UN could impact Black claims against the U.S., and the answer was "no." There was discussion of why the work in international forums is important alongside work being done in America to champion reparations in 100 municipalities and state commissions, according to Atty. Taifa.

Why the primacy of the Black Diaspora, in particular Blacks in America, must stay always be present in the reparations battle and the need for unity was also discussed.

Listen in for an insightful and powerful conversation.
