Today I want to hold myself #accountable.   It is easy to lose track of the good things in life whether they be people or events that make life special.    So in this week's episode  I discuss some of what I've been #grateful for this year.

Unknown (00:06):
Hello there friends, both old new. Welcome to strive
seek find podcast, I'm your hostchance went home of bite sized
lifestyle advice from a fellowtraveler on the road to a better
life. Brought to you by alongtime educator, writer,
parent, and outdoor enthusiast, who may just may like the good

(00:28):
drum, because our future set notthrough just our choices, but
our willingness to explore andfind a better way. Welcome back.
I'm recording on the morning ofNovember 24 2022. American
Thanksgiving. And this is alittle different episode for me.

(00:52):
Now, I'm going to admit, andstep back, I felt like I've said
this a lot of late. And whileI'm not digging into the history
of the holiday, which every yearI start thinking I should, I do
want to touch on some things I'mgrateful for. Honestly, I'm not
sure I'm not just doing thisepisode for me as a reminder of

(01:16):
the goods in life, but I do hopeyou will tag along and enjoy.
And those of you who interactwith me on social or in real
life, please hold me accountableto these things. Now let's get
started. This year has beenfraught with change some of it
by my choice, some of it,because that's what life is.

(01:41):
It's given me the opportunityfor repeated and often painful
reflection. And I hope thateventually will lead to some
growth. For now. I just keepworking on the process,
stumbling often. But for allthat, I want to touch a little
bit on the things I'm gratefulfor. And this year, some of this

(02:05):
may seem trite. Like I said, Iprobably need this reminder
right now. Gonna start with anobvious one right out of the
gate. With everything going onin the world, I'm so grateful
that my family has beenrelatively healthy and able to
do the things they've wanted todo. That may seem like a low

(02:27):
bar, but it gives opportunitiesfor other things that I'm
grateful for. For instance, I'mgrateful to have three extremely
unique, stubborn, stubborn, stubborn daughters, who are
becoming their own people. Fromthe high schooler who is finding

(02:48):
her way in both athletics andSpeech and Debate to the middle
schooler who is seeking heridentity and being uniquely
herself to the honey badgerkindergartener who is just
tearing the world up. I'mgrateful for each of them, and

(03:10):
what they bring to my life. Fora fun one. I'd like to mention
the fact that I am grateful forthe opportunity to travel no
matter for what I mean, thisyear. family trip to Park City
and some new hikes wasincredible. My youngest first

(03:33):
time on an airplane to SanDiego, a city that nobody else
in my family had been to myfirst pro football game in
Phoenix, and helping someonemove down there. And on top of
it all, just last weekend, beingable to run away and experience

(03:54):
Leavenworth, Washington andSeattle. While I helped a friend
celebrate his birthday, it'sprobably the most I've traveled
in a calendar year than any timein my life that I can think of,
and all for a variety ofreasons. And I'll be honest,
it's not the travel itself thatI'm grateful for. It's the

(04:17):
experiences that comes out ofit. The time with friends, the
time with family, the time sceneand doing new things that you'll
never possibly do again. Thoseare life changing moments, even
if they're small ones, and youshould always hold them in your
heart. It's something to begrateful for. I'm grateful for

(04:39):
family who supports each otherthrough our individual
struggles, and our family onceno matter what we go through.
We're always stronger when wehang together. And I'm grateful
for that. Because we never needto feel alone and interrelated.

(04:59):
No Well, I am grateful forfriends who keep me grounded and
focused, kicking my ass andsupporting me as is necessary.
And both are necessary. I don'talways get to see or talk to
them nearly enough. But they'realways there and willing to drop
everything if one of us needsit. And I tell you, folks, after

(05:24):
a couple of things this year, Ihave some stories I'm going to
eventually share about that. ButI'm not there yet. I'm grateful
for the online podcasting tribewho has helped and supported me,
that has allowed me in somemeasure to keep moving forward

(05:44):
as a podcaster. Even his lifehas intruded over and over again
this past year. Y'all know whoyou are? Most you listen to this
fairly regularly. I want to tipmy hat. And I hope I've said
thank you. Well, I've said thankyou. But I hope you all realize
how important that was to thisexperiment continuing. Next up,

(06:10):
I'm grateful for the opportunityto learn and continue to learn
both personally andprofessionally. There's a lot of
reasons for this. As soon as youthink you know everything, get
out, that alone is prettyobvious. But in my head, I've
always thought that the momentwhere you cease to believe that

(06:30):
you can learn and change andgrow, is the moment when you
really start getting old. Andmaybe I should take that a step
further. When you're unwillingto learn and to grow, and get
fixed in your mindset. And inyour habits, is when you truly
start making that shift fromyoung mentally, because I've

(06:56):
known some 20 Somethings who arealready set in their ways. And
most importantly, andspecifically, because she fits
in a lot of these areas. Mywife, Amy, because she's put up
a lot of garter with a lot ofgarbage this year for me, and
has allowed me to keep breathingthat tongue in cheek, but I am

(07:17):
married to an amazing person.
I'm not even going to pretendthis is supposed to be an
inclusive list. There are a lotof things and a lot of people I
am grateful for this year. Ijust knew I needed to take a
step back and look at thosethings in order to fit my mind
around the rest of the year andput things in perspective. So if

(07:38):
you have an opportunity today, take a step back. Make a list if
it helps you. Think about it.
And remember who and what you'regrateful for. Put them at the
center of your life. It willhelp you wipe away the stress

(07:59):
from whatever is bothering you.
So what about you? What are yougrateful for? Please reach out
to me and share. The links tothe various social media
platforms are in the show notes.
And I would love to hear fromyou. Well friends thanks for
listening to this week's episodeof strife seek find. Until next

(08:21):
time, keep seeking your ownbrilliant Future
