Sterling (00:00):
Hello wonderful people, and welcome to another
episode of Struggle2 SuccessPodcast.
I'm your host, Sterling Brown.
Just want to take a moment tosay thank you.
Wherever you are right now, whether you're going to work,
coming from work, going to thegrocery store, going to the gym
or just taking that me time andyou're listening to me to help

(00:21):
you get through your day or daysto come.
Thank you.
Today's episode is about time.
Timing is everything.
You know as I was preparing forthis episode, I had a real
moment of self-reflection.
A few days ago, I went to theApple store in my hometown where
I finally returned two pairs ofBeats headphones that weren't

(00:44):
working.
Sounds simple, right, exceptfor one thing.
I had been procrastinating formonths.
Every time I thought aboutreturning them, I push it off.
I'll do it next week, I'll doit when I have time.
It's not that urgent.
But the truth, the truth is Iwas avoiding it.
And here's the irony.
I'm sitting here talking to youabout.

(01:05):
Timing is everything about howwasted time is a lost
opportunity, and yet I had letmonths pass on something so
small.
But that's exactly the point.
Procrastination isn't justabout the big things.
It's the little things we keepputting off that pile up.
In the end, I finally made thereturn, but it wasn't without

(01:29):
cost.
The warranty that had coveredthese headphones had expired, so
instead of having thoseheadphones replaced, it would
have cost me more money to justhave them serviced.
So I miss that opportunity.
And what about you?
What's sitting in the back ofyour mind right now that you

(01:50):
know you should handle but keepavoiding?
This was just a pair ofheadphones, but in life, the
longer we wait, the heavierthings become, and sometimes, by
the time we decide to act, theopportunity is already gone.
Time is one of the things inlife we can't control.
It never stops, never slowsdown and never rewinds.

(02:12):
We're either making the most ofit, staying proactive and
seizing opportunities, orletting it slip through our
fingers, watching chances fadeinto regrets.
In this episode, we'll breakdown the power of timing, how
being prepared, making decisionsat the right moment and
avoiding procrastination can setyou up for success.

(02:33):
Whether it's career moves, personal growth or even daily
habits, mastering your sense oftime can be a game changer.
So let's dive in and talk abouthow we can stop waiting and
start acting, because, in theend, timing is everything.
I first understood the phrase.
We wear many hats as a husbandand a father.

(02:54):
Yet no matter how many roles weare taken on, we all have the
same 24 hours.
How we choose to use thosehours defines everything about
us.
Every day, we face thechallenge of using our time
purposefully and effectively.
But before we dive into whatgood time management looks like,
let's talk about bad timemanagement.

(03:16):
When you're younger, let's bereal you don't take life
seriously.
You think about having all thetime in the world.
You procrastinate, wastinghours on things that don't add
value, and sometimes put offresponsibilities because you
believe there's always tomorrow.
But then life happens.
The opportunities you thoughtwill always be there disappear.

(03:38):
You start to realize that timeisn't as forgiving as you once
believed.
I remember when I used to smokeweed on the weekends.
I wake up hours later after thehigh, wore off, thinking I was
fine, only to realize I hadslept clear into the afternoon.
Those hours meant lostopportunities.
The tasks I should havecompleted earlier were now

(04:02):
piling up, and I found myselffrustrated.
Have completed earlier were nowpiling up, and I found myself
frustrated, panicked and behindschedule.
I convinced myself that gettinghigh helped me balance other
areas of my life, but the truthwas I was using it to escape
reality.
I wasn't capitalizing on mytime.
I was avoiding it.
If you're listening to me, Iknow I'm not alone.

(04:23):
Many of you are in the sameplace of poor time management.
But here's what I want you todo Take a hard look in the
mirror, or even pull out yourphone, record yourself and say
these words I am worthy of myaccomplishments and the
accomplishments of my time.
I'm going to say that one moretime I'm worthy of my

(04:43):
accomplishments and theaccomplishments of my time.
There are a few key reasonspeople struggle to manage their
time effectively.
I'll break them down for you.
Distractions and short-termgratification, friends, social
media, social events and eveninternal fears put us away from
long-term success.

(05:03):
It's easier to chase a quickdopamine hit than commit to a
long-term discipline.
Fear of failure I used tobelieve that if I tried
something and failed, it meant Iwasn't good enough.
But failure isn't the oppositeof success.
It's part of the process.
Once I learned that, I startedmoving forward instead of
holding myself back.
Poor planning Time managementis a skill, and many of us were

(05:28):
never taught how to planproperly.
We never saw successful peoplein our lives strategizing their
time, so when things go wrong,we don't adapt.
We get frustrated.
Lack of motivation we don'tadapt, we get frustrated.
Lack of motivation.
When you grow up withoutencouragement, it's easy to get

(05:50):
comfortable living day by dayinstead of working towards
something bigger.
But comfort is the enemy ofprogress.
If you're still listening, sayit again I am worthy of my
accomplishments and myaccomplishments of my time.
When I finally realized I waswasting time, I was sitting in a
jail cell and now, as acorrection officer, I try to
explain this to offenderswhenever I can.

(06:11):
When you're behind bars, youare no longer in control of your
time.
The most precious moments, thetime you could be creating
memories, building your futureand shaping your success, are
now lost.
But here's the truth you don'thave to be locked up to lose
time.
The worst kind of prison is theone we build by ourselves by

(06:31):
wasting time.
Bad time management isn't justabout procrastination.
It's about missed chances, delayed growth and regret.
It's about those moments whenyou knew you should have taken
action, but you didn't.
Maybe you stayed in a badsituation too long, or maybe you
waited until the perfect time, only to realize that that

(06:52):
perfect time never came.
So what does good timing looklike?
It's about preparation.
It's about being aware ofopportunities and acting on them
before they slip away.
It's about making decisions, not just reacting to life, but
being intentional about what youdo with your time.
Think about the best moments inyour life.

(07:13):
Success, growth and progresshappens when you're ready and
willing to act.
And that doesn't mean rushinginto things blindly.
It means recognizing when thedoor is open and walking through
it with confidence.
Here's the truth.
Timing isn't just about luck.
It's about readiness.
If an opportunity comes andyou're not prepared, it doesn't

(07:35):
matter how perfect the timing is.
You won't be able to takeadvantage of it.
That's why preparation iseverything.
The work you put in todaydetermines whether or not you'll
be ready when that moment comes.
Maybe that means developing askill before you need it.
Maybe it means networkingbefore you need connections.
Maybe it means beingdisciplined even when no one is

(07:57):
watching, because when theopportunity comes, you won't
have time to prepare.
You only have time to perform.
So, as you go through your day,ask yourself are you making the
most of your time?
Are you preparing for theopportunities ahead, or are you
waiting for the right time thatmay never come?
Because, in the end, timingisn't just about the clock.

(08:19):
It's about your choices.
Timing is everything, but formany time isn't in their control
.
When you're incarcerated, timemoves differently.
Every minute behind bars is areminder of the life you're
missing, the choices that ledyou there and the uphill battle
waiting for you when you get out.
In the next few episodes, we'regoing to dive deep into what

(08:41):
incarceration really means.
Behind the headlines, behindthe statistics.
We're going to talk about thedaily struggles, the mental toll
, the barriers to re-entry andthe fight to rebuild.
Whether you've been through it,know someone who has, or want
to prevent the next generationfrom falling into the system,
this series is for you.

(09:02):
Stay tuned as we tackle LockedIn, locked Out.
That's it for today's episodeof Struggle2 Success.
