Struggle2 Success Podcast wherewe turn life's trials into
tools for growth.
I'm your host, Sterling Brown, and today's episode is one I
believe we all can relate too.
Today we're talking about whenlife happens, those unexpected
(01:14):
events that hit us when we leastexpect them and leave us asking
now what?
But life isn't about avoidingthe storm.
It's about learning how tostand in the rain, get muddy and
keep moving forward.
This episode is for mygo-getters, my hat changers and
anyone trying to make it out ofthe chaos.
(01:36):
Last Friday, after leaving thecorrectional facility, I went to
Crunch Gym for leg day.
I was locked in, focused andworking my way up to about 640
pounds on the leg press.
I felt strong, I felt confidentand unstoppable, until suddenly
I heard a pop.
I tore my intercostal muscle.
It wasn't a career-endinginjury, but it stopped my
(01:59):
training cold.
What made it harder was, justabout a week earlier, I had
connected with a track and fieldcoach who agreed to train me to
improve my speed and timing.
I was excited, motivated, moving forward and in one
unexpected moment, everythingshifted.
That's the thing about life.
(02:19):
It doesn't ask you if you'reready.
One second you're pushingforward and the next you're
learning to pause, reset andadjust your path.
If that wasn't enough, my wifeflew out to California to take
care of some things for our kids.
She's a pre-planner, let metell you Flights booked, rental
car secured, everything set.
(02:41):
But when she landed, the rentalcompany denied her reservation.
No explanation, no options.
She had to call her sister, whoended up sending her $650 so
she can continue on and bookanother flight and get picked up
.
Now we're juggling bills, rearranging schedules and
shifting priorities to make itall work.
(03:02):
That's life, one moment.
And shifting priorities to makeit all work that's life, one
moment.
Everything's smooth.
The next you're scrambling,balancing responsibilities,
finances and emotions all atonce, and I know many of you
listening out there are carryingthe same weight every day
Through it.
All these past two weeks havetaught me one thing you can't
(03:23):
always stop the unexpected, butyou can't always control how you
respond.
Here's what's been grounding methrough all of this.
Number one control what you cancontrol.
You can't control the injury, the canceled plans or the
unexpected bills, but you cancontrol your response.
Number two protect your peace.
(03:44):
Don't let stress dictate yourdecisions.
Pause, breathe.
Lean on your faith.
No-transcript.
Number three keep movingforward.
Pausing isn't quitting.
I had to step back from running, but I didn't quit training.
You adjust the plan, but youdon't abandon the mission when
(04:07):
life happens.
It's not all about perfection.
It's about resilience.
It's about waking up the nextday ready to try again, no
matter how heavy yesterday was.
While I've been talking aboutinjuries, cancellations and
unexpected bills, I want to takethis deeper.
For some people, the unexpecteddoesn't just pause their plans.
(04:27):
It changes everything.
Imagine this one day you'reworking, paying your bills,
keeping your household steady, and the next you're facing
eviction, losing your home.
You're wondering where you'regoing to sleep at tonight, and
that's what I wanted tohighlight someone doing powerful
work in this space Amy Krulikfrom hope n door.
(04:51):
Amy and her team from hope ndoor helps families blindsided
by homelessness.
During our conversation, Amyshared just how fast things
things can spiral.
One missed paycheck, onemedical bill, and one unexpected
expense.
