(00:02):
Yo, what's? Up.
We have some new face Ricker going on.
We got the goatee going. Yep, well, everything right now.
Nice. I'm sorry for being really late.
It's OK. How was your swim?
It was good parking was a madhouse.
So, but you've been to have you been to Boulder I?

(00:23):
Actually have not been to the boulder yet, so.
It's a public pool as well, so that was really full because
everyone's still there. It's still like 90° out even
though it's whatever, 630 now. Yeah, if you you like, if you
can get lucky right now. Usually someone's leaving around
this time, but we did not get lucky.
So you have to go park in this other spot.

(00:44):
I know we went to Chipotle afterwards as well.
Still no excuse to be late. I was figuring out the new
setup. I'm actually standing right now.
I'm in a standing desk just to make sure I'm, you know, logging
and I'm staring down. Beautiful.
Is it actually your desk like you bought this thing to be?
The house. So I guess a quick update, yes,

(01:05):
give it for everyone, for peoplewho are watch all four people
who are listening right now mademy way up from Tucson, one week
stint in Saint George, and now we're in Boulder.
I'm with Amy and Robbie again, and we found this place on
Craigslist and someone just decided to leave that they like
left the country or something and listed on Craigslist and we

(01:26):
were looking for short term as well.
So we just took it over. But they just left so much stuff
in the house. Craigslist anymore drug dealers
like. Yeah, we were pretty, we were
pretty sketched out honestly, but they went we went straight
to the leasing office like once we said very interested.
It's not like they're like, Oh yeah, follow this sketchy web

(01:47):
PayPal age and then how whatever.
Yeah, so we knew it was legit, but they like, legit just left
every like left. It's like they just left for the
weekend, but they're leaving forfive months and we had to deal
with all this. What their name is?
I feel like they're probably some special forces military
contractor. No, it wasn't.

(02:08):
That'd be cool if it was. That's awesome.
Well, I'm glad you got the storywhen you.
Yeah, with with us in our housing situation.
But I always stand. I'm actually going to try to
figure out how to sit at some point.
Do it. What can it like lower?
Is it one of those? Ones yeah, it kind of lower, but

(02:28):
the reason I have it up so high right now is because I put my
dresser underneath it. It defeats the purpose of but I
needed to be efficient with space because it's not that big
of a yeah. So I just I was just using it
for storage and for Instagram Labs.
I was also banking on the they have a really nice desk chair.
I'm looking at it right now. I was banking on that going a

(02:51):
lot higher. So in my hand I was like, oh,
it's perfect, you know? Hi Dad.
Like a 5 foot chair as I can. But yeah, so next time I'll be
much more prepared. OK dude, how you doing?
Where where, where's your spirits?
I know you're, you've been busy like relocating all across the
world, traveling, racing. Spirits are good.

(03:13):
Doing the full Iron Man. So really excited but nervous
for that. You can go into some of that if
we want on these. Maybe it's interesting, maybe
it's not for again. Well, we're up one viewer for
our five viewers. It's about some For my training,
it's been pretty much the same, just rearranging some of the
hours towards the long ride, long run.

(03:34):
But other than that, not much has changed.
Still the same per week average, right?
Around 25 to 26. That's it.
And then I was kind of kind of racing a lot, so there wasn't
like much time anyways. I mean, it wasn't like a rush
because I was already doing quite a decent amount of volume

(03:54):
anyways. But it's been fun so far, so
good. Like healthy.
I'll have a really long, my lastlong run before the race this
Sunday. I'm not quite sure how long
it'll be. My coach and I are still kind of
looking at that. But lap two weeks ago, it was
two hours, and I did just under 18 miles.
I think this weekend it'll be probably 20 miles.

(04:17):
Yeah, It's a long day. It's a long day.
Yeah. I'm hoping to find a sag.
Just greetings from Panama. Thanks for joining.
For joining Alf and Pat, when are any questions?
Drop them in the chat. Oh, here we go.
When are you racing in Latin America?

(04:39):
I don't know. We.
Oh wait, we do have someone who wanted to join.
Oh, Natalie Stewart. Yeah, this person hasn't even
done the intro yet. I know.
Well, if they don't jump on I'll.
Yeah, yeah, that works. I'll figure out this chair while
while she's decided. Natalie Stewart.

(04:59):
Do we know Natalie? Do I know Natalie?
So I just, I didn't even look, Ijust saw like quickly the.
Mark is figuring out his chair and we're waiting for somebody
to join. She's not joining.
Oh yeah, she's not joining. Welcome, everybody to the
Roulette Live. I almost forgot the name of it.
This is our 32nd episode. It has been actually, let's see,

(05:25):
it's been almost three months since we have done this last,
but this is a time where Matt and I jump in here.
Did I say Matt? Mark, this is where Mark and I
jump in here. We.
We. Weren't really out of touch
here. I know we also we jump in here
in like 3 months. Yeah, let people come in, ask
any questions that they want. Breeze, I know.

(05:47):
I literally am so bad. Matt.
Matt's and Mark's historically are so bad for me.
I get them mixed up all time. But yeah, so is the time to come
in, jump in, ask any questions you want, triathlon or not
related. It's just a fun time to for Mark
to connect with his people. But I think we shouldn't answer
yes. Because we'll have a big recap
maybe on some of the podcasts you've been releasing.

(06:09):
Yes, yes, got on the docket. That yes, we've had some big
ones. I have some fun stuff to share,
actually. What does your daily nutrition
outside of training look like? Good question.
So I feel like I just train all day anyways.
My big thing is always just trying to get a good meal and
like obviously in the morning first thing I'm doing a big

(06:30):
bigger breakfast. I always do oatmeal and a few
eggs with fruit. That's like 100% every day I'm
always doing that. And then I come home from the
first session, I'm usually doinglike breakfast #2 which is bagel
with eggs, sometimes some eggos or a giant pancake flip.
But my rule of thumb is just always trying to get a a meal

(06:50):
and before and a meal and after. That's kind of my meals are
around every session. Doesn't really matter when the
sessions are. I'm not doing like breakfast,
lunch, dinner. I'm just doing meals after
training. Yeah, right.
On team shakes, especially afterbig day, big training days, I do

(07:10):
chug a glass of water right in the morning too.
That's been a consistent trend. And then if it's really, really
hot out, I'll just do like a preload kind of like I would do
for a race. So like a 60 grams of scratch in
a bottle, especially if I had a really good big day.
So for from an age groupers perspective, training anywhere
from 15 to 18 ish hours a week. I do honestly very similar in

(07:35):
the mornings try to drink a bunch of water before I go out.
I will say it's so nice here in Northern California as compared
to like living out east. Whenever I would go in like a
long run of at least 12 miles, let's say, I would have to make
sure to carry water and stop multiple times.
Phillip because I'm sweating so much out here, I can just use
the water fountains every coupleof miles dry.

(07:56):
It's so dry. I still sweat but and it dries.
It dries off but I feel like I don't sweat to the level of
intensity for sure. Sometimes you just don't stop
sweating even after your shower out in Chattanooga.
He was still. Yeah, you're always sweating.
Always. We did miss one question.

(08:17):
What's your favorite? Was it favorite product from the
feed? So I guess there's quite a few.
So for like recovery, I do the Momentous Momentous whey
protein, which Momentous seems to be kind of like taking over a
little bit. So I interviewed their CEO not
long ago. Did you?
Remember we were talking about that.

(08:37):
Jeff, he's a super nice guy. Yeah, they're trying to push
more and more into triathlon, that's for sure.
And mark it up. Then for racing I do scratch the
regular and then the precision hydration carb only.
I just mixed the two behind the camera.

(08:57):
Right now I actually have all ofmy nutrition, so I've been
testing a few others. So you know how Cam Newton or
Cam Newton Cam work does like hedoes like some crazy 200 grams
per hour. I'm pretty sure he's doing like
this this Amex. Can't do that stuff.

(09:18):
But no, I think it's good. This is what I'll be doing for
the not the citrus one, the Konalime Cola lime one is much
better, but it's like it's so liquidy.
Yeah. So I'm pretty sure.
So what I'm going to do is just put it in an Arrow bottle.
I tested this for the long ride over the weekend and it works
perfect. So this is 40 grams of carbs and

(09:39):
you can fit. I'll do like 5 and an arrow
bottle. So it'll be that's off carbs.
Yeah, I tried that stuff and it gave me like serious GI
explosion explosions. Yeah, I literally test it right.
Yeah, but it tastes great. I really does.
Couple other questions. I believe you take creatine, is
that true? Any other supplements?

(10:02):
Yes I do take creatine usually just with with my protein shake
with the momentous and then other supplements.
Iron back on the iron now that I'm at altitude again.
Not to do a sponsor plug, but I do the monthly blood testing
with Rhythm if you're interested.

(10:22):
I hate doing sponsor plugs. If you're interested, let me
know. But pretty much I'm going to do
monthly blood testing. And when I met Robbie, the owner
back in Kona last year, we did the test right there and we saw
that my iron was super low. So since then I've been on iron
and then liquid iron. Now that I'm like that altitude
and running a lot more and it's cool.

(10:44):
It's really cool to see because iron obviously can take a while
to raise and because I'm doing it monthly, it's been nice
seeing the progression. Interesting.
What is the difference between solid I assume and liquid?
Iron Man, that's I don't even know, but I know it's just like
I needed to step up the game. The pills weren't doing it for
me and they were making me kind of constipated.

(11:05):
And this is like this is iron plus a few other vitamins.
So that has like the vitamin C with it mixed into all the
liquid or something. I don't know.
They're Sting. I'm actually looking up just
really quick the difference between solid iron and liquid
iron. OK, this is not accurate because

(11:27):
it's taking with the metal exists at temperatures below
2800°F. So when you take liquid, you
take it molten iron. Exactly.
So somebody else said something.Who is the RTS alpha?
You or Jackson? This is frightening.
It's neck chase. Yeah, he does.

(11:47):
He does give off the alpha ABS. But he also, yeah, we also
couldn't run, like we wouldn't function without Nick Chase.
I stayed with him for the whole month in Saint George.
And 1st off, it was so much fun.I'm glad they were able to
handle me. I know I'm like a lot I guess
with my car, all my stuff, and he's got a whole family and

(12:10):
stuff. But yeah, I think Nick is the
alpha for sure. He's racing at Raw this weekend.
I think Garrick is also re racing this weekend in Roth.
That's huge. Yeah, definitely not Jackson.
No way. Yeah, Jackson is that guy.
We had a few comments. Santa Madre usually fuels gels.

(12:31):
100 carbs in one OK. Couldn't do those that tasted
funky. Yeah, this one.
So I'm just going to pull since we're on the topic of this one,
I'll take during maybe one or two during the marathon.
Carbs fuel. It's actually local.
It's in Golden Co, It's 50 grams.

(12:52):
It's pretty kind of sweet. But now they have like a sodium
one, which is pretty nice for running.
Like in riding for like on the bike, a lot of people separate,
separate their sodium and their carb intake somehow just to make
sure they're not overdoing the sodium.
But on the run, I feel like it'shard, like you just want to

(13:12):
carry 1 bottle or I don't know. I don't know if I've had a like
I've had a hard time getting thesodium on the run.
And then I don't want to trust the Morton cups because Morton's
the sponsor of the run nutrition.
And I'm not sure how well they mix them like a packet of not
Morton. Sorry, mortal.
I just don't know how well they are mixed in those Dixie cup,
whatever they're called, those Gatorade small cups.

(13:36):
So I don't know what like the exact amount of sodium I'm
getting from those is. So this makes it a bit easier.
Yeah. You get specific on the level of
like fluids that you try to takein with the sodium because like
you don't want to go hypo or hypernutrienic.
Have you ever struggled with that?
I haven't, but anything can happen on Iron Man.

(13:59):
That's why I'm so nervous about,I feel like the half.
So you can not necessarily fake it, but you can push through
quite a bit for 1/2 marathon after 56 miles on a bike or
whatever, yeah. It's like it doesn't hit you
until later. Yeah, I know a marathon can be a
struggle. Which is the 450 for that little

(14:21):
thing is huge because like I'm thinking those for 1000
milligram bottle or excuse me, Yeah, what is it 500 mil mills?
That's the standard precision bottle, right?
And the big ones are like 950. The bags of precision hydration.
I forget what Precision is now, but scratch, if you do one scoop

(14:43):
of scratch, this is a regular one, is 400 milligrams of
sodium. So it's a lot.
That one has a lot. This isn't quite as much.
Yeah, you're running, you said, with a bottle for just like
fluids. Still figuring out the run

(15:04):
nutrition right now or like whatI'm going to do for bottles
during the race. I have one of those nerd belts
so I might be someone running with like a you know what those
are right? Yeah, yeah, yeah, Sam, run.
Yeah, like the panty pack with the small little bottles, I do
that and then pros, we get personal needs.

(15:27):
So you can leave a bottle and grab like your own.
It's like your own bottle that you leave.
So I might just do that and I just that way I don't need to
carry anything in my hands. But perhaps I do.
Yeah, small little flask anywhere from like depending on
how hot it is, 250 to like 200 to 350 and I'll just run with it

(15:48):
or put it in like my Jersey or my.
Looks like you've been keeping really good track, at least of
what you shared. Like post rides, how much carbs
with the fluid, sodiums, all that stuff.
So yeah, here this year just it's so easy just to leave the
notepad next to the bottles whenyou're mixing them.
So for this whole year, for likeall Tuesday hard sessions and

(16:09):
then all long ride long runs pretty much I'll leave.
I'll have I have it all logged in my little notebook of what I
took and and then in Training Peaks I can check and how I felt
and stuff and how the session went.
There's another question. We got them rolling in today.
What kind of recovery do you do for running?
Is there any weight lifting typeof rehab or stretching?

(16:31):
I was. I haven't lifted much lately, a
lot of like prehab rehab kind ofstuff.
So like I'll do some of the PTS exercises that I was given after
the injury or that I've had before.
So like simple things like a lotof glute work, a lot of like
loading on the calf. So I'll just do simple stuff

(16:52):
like that. But these past few weeks I
haven't lifted much. And then, sorry, what was the
other part of the question? Just rehab for running?
Yeah. Or stretch.
No stretching, rolling out massage gun.
And then I told myself after Vancouver when when we fully
committed to doing classes, I was like, all right, I'm getting
going to bite the ball and get amassage every week until the

(17:16):
race. Let's go.
That's expensive, but it's it's definitely helped a lot.
Are your rides 8020 Soft Hard? I'd say pretty close.
I think you mean like. Yeah.
I think it's not like each ride, but the week, yeah.

(17:39):
So my breakdown for training lately has been Mondays, our
recovery, which is weird. So Monday will be easy ride,
easy swim, no run. And then Tuesday is normally
hard swim, hard run. But late in the past few weeks

(18:00):
for this marathon or whatever Iron Man prep, it's been easy
like aerobic ride, not recovery, but just easy ride, hard swim,
easy, easy run. And then Wednesday is my hard
run starts. Today I did 45 minute
progression from like 4 flat perK to 320 per K and then easy or

(18:23):
aerobic swim. Tomorrow will be hard ride with
a hour run and then Friday all three an hour of everything.
So just like easy volume. And then Saturday Sundays long
ride, Sunday long run with a hard swim session in there too.
Nice. Do you like this Iron Man

(18:43):
training versus 70.3 training you think?
Yes, I kind of do. It's nice having that dedicated
Monday recovery just because we're good.
We're going such big volume on the weekend that I definitely
need it. So I'm not running Saturday and
I'm not running Monday. Just being pretty cautious with
the days, the day before and theday after.

(19:04):
Log on Kelly's, yeah. And now obviously the lifting
has definitely helped that, likeloading that with a lot of
heavyweight. It's so funny about like how to
rehab that and obviously scienceand a lot of the PTS are all on
the same page. Like it's not stretching it and
I'm not, I'm not putting a blanket over any like all
Achilles issues. But like all the people I've

(19:25):
talked to, it's been like loaded.
Strengthen it. Yeah, let's invite Jack Stuff.
Is he in here? Yeah, we can ask the question.
About stretching the RTS function.
Who is the alpha? Everybody prepare yourself.
We're not going to smile when hegets in here.

(19:46):
He's going to join. Get a dog, he'll drive.
Respects to the big dog. Come on Jackson, don't do that
well while we wait question for Mark.
Do you think a triathlon. Oh, here he is.
What that? I'm going to catch up to you.
You look so mature with your facial hair, Jackson.
It's so impressive. Thank you you.

(20:08):
Guys are cutting, you guys are cutting into date night, so you
better ask question quick. It's all hello.
Here's the question. The question was who is the RTS
alpha? Is it Jackson or Mark?
Nick didn't even get asked. Yeah, I said it was Nick.
I don't know, Mark, how many podiums do you have in wins?
Oh shit, we're going. That's that Jackson.

(20:32):
You have like 30 podiums. Is it?
No, I think it's like 20. So it's, but yeah.
But I don't have any this year and you have a win this year,
so. You got that broken aid.
Sure, so far this year Mark's got the status on me, but I.
Was at Olympic. That's not a.

(20:56):
Saint A's. Yeah, yeah, fair enough.
But we raced there and we raced Saint George and I got you
there, but then you got me in whatever that next one was.
T100. So Mark's got the edge.
Good. Mark the edge.
I have AI have a question. Lawrence Lauren's out 47 Max.

(21:24):
Jackson, I have a question. Good man, I.
Saw your post, you said your swims been slacking.
What's going on? I just have been getting slower.
Haven't you noticed? He's like behind me, is behind
me. I don't care about how.
I did, yeah. I mean I guess I noticed it's
been taking you longer to catch me, but maybe that's because my

(21:48):
bike has gotten better rather than double.
So I just, yeah, I'm going to just change a bit of the
approach and do a lot more technical focus and, you know,
just make things happen. If it's not been working, you
got to make some changes, right? So been working on that, but

(22:08):
man, I'm feeling pretty good. I had a good swim yesterday that
was like not like amazing, just like OK, now I feel like I'm on
the right track so. How was it?
Can you share some details of the James James Lowry special?
Actually, it was a a workout, Cody wrote.
And well, he doesn't write it. He just like knows it and then

(22:30):
we just do it. But Cody, I, I, I swam like a
bunch of easy because I knew Cody wasn't coming till like 45
minutes in. So I did like 2 1/2 K before he
got there. And then we did some activation.
We did 8 by 15 meters fast, likewith the 15 meter, like moving
by 5 meters each Rep. So it starts with the 1st 15 and

(22:53):
then it's the next. And so then by the end you're
finishing with the last 15 meters.
So just activation. Then we did 6 broken 2 hundreds
where the makeup of each round was like different.
So the first round was 2 by 100 on 2 minutes and the next round
was 4 by 50 on a minute. Then we did did the rest of them

(23:18):
we're all like multiple like just random thing with like
755025 and then in between each we did a 200 easy mix recovery.
So like full recovery? So nice.
But yeah. About what's next, yeah.
You want to hear the times, Mark?
I know you're curious. I I think the fans want to.
Know so all the there was only three one hundreds mixed in

(23:42):
there, but they were one O sevens meters, which I mean it's
a hard it's short course meters.Yeah.
And then the 50s were all 32 andchange, and the 70 fives were 50
seconds and the 20 fives were like 15 seconds.
So nothing like groundbreaking, but for me that's like pretty

(24:04):
decent work. That's all about the all about
that consistency and then keep doing that.
Yeah, exactly. So I want to at least get one
some plus a week that's like high end like just hitting that
stuff. Yeah, but.
I Seth, you had a question. Skin is swim back.
I did have a question. It's for all you people who have

(24:25):
these contracts with the feed, is it in your contractor?
Just have the feed hat by your side for whenever a camera
decides to just show up. You guys have to be like, oh,
glued. On my head.
Yeah, this is. Yeah, mine's glued as well.
Yeah, that's why Mark is all sweaty.
Sweaty is the only one I could get too quick.

(24:47):
Cover up the swim here. Just love.
Yeah, they're doing a Tour de France.
No. Oh, it's not Tour de France.
Can't say that. It's a, isn't it just Tour de
Yeah, special. Yeah, lots of special.
This month, keep your eyes open for deals.

(25:09):
Coming Steward by NBC. Anyways, don't you gotta go,
boys. What do you what do you have
planned for date night besides this?
Birds hanging out, watching. We're going for a walk.
Nothing's crazy. Chilling.
Nice. Typical trap like.
Yep. All right.

(25:30):
Well, thanks for your time, AdamJackson.
Thanks so much. See ya.
See you guys, Mark. Oops, I just didn't.
I was just gonna say, is the Cozumel trip, is that being
planned happening again next year?
Yeah, that's. Going to happen.
I mean, it better happen a tradition now.

(25:50):
Now I'm going to get. I'm making that happen this
year. It was.
Really fun. It got even better, I thought,
last year. And Nagu.
Yeah, you better. You better be there.
That's good. I won't be.
There was a few questions we missed here.
Question from Mark again. Do you think a trial thumb pro
could keep up with the Tour de France peloton?

(26:13):
What do you think? I think like in the back of the
peloton and maybe until it shatters.
I don't know, I think they couldlike the top cyclists for sure.
And then of course, once it getsto a climb, different story.
Yeah, like, but like a mountain stage, obviously a lot of power.
There's a lot of power difference.
And of course, like the top pro triathletes, like are they have

(26:35):
raised Pro Cycling races before, like the Brownies, for example.
We're on a Pro Cycling team, buta huge difference is also just
the skill level, defending, handling in a pack.
I mean sitting in the back of that group although is like it's
pulling you along. It's just so mentally fatiguing.
Because you have to be so like on, yeah.

(26:56):
I mean, if you were right in a group just with like 4 people
just on the side of the road, whatever, 6 people and you're
going 2 by two by two, like that's kind of gets a little
like, yeah, you got more acting correctly.
You got see what's in front of you and imagine going 40 miles,
50 miles an hour, whatever, 30 miles an hour.
And you're doing that for four hours on roads that like, yeah,

(27:18):
you've prepped for, but you never know how they're going
having you go through what kind of Rd. furniture, how they're
going to have you go around roundabouts.
But sometimes they'll just pave over roundabouts.
So just like if it's like they're having a finish in this
in through a city and there's a roundabout that's kind of in the
way, city will just pave throughthe middle.

(27:39):
So then they're just going to gostraight.
Yeah, thanks to avoid like wrecking and stuff like that.
That's crazy. Wow, I didn't realize that.
So you think you could keep up with the propelled 1?
Well, on an easy stage and once there's cross wind or any sort
of attack, probably not. Yeah, I think he can do pretty
well. It is, I think, of the closest

(28:01):
thing probably. Stick with.
I'm not saying it's going to be easy.
Yeah, there are another level. I'm hanging on hang.
On yeah, I'm just like barely hanging on.
And then if anything, any sort of attacks splits any sort of
mountain probably, yeah. No way it's.
So fun to give it a. Shot their watts per kilo on
those climbs. It's ridiculous, Yeah.

(28:21):
Are you going to be watching the?
Yeah, if I can, I've done like Peacock or something.
Yeah, Peacock, I mean YouTube have all of the good, all the
good highlights. In the background.
The problem is I always do. I feel like I always swim early
and I just miss it. I'm just have to watch the
highlights. Highlights is where most fun is

(28:44):
all. Right, Seth?
Catch us Catch us up on the Stupid Questions with Seth Hill
podcast, other than some interesting ones.
Yeah, so it's so funny because Ihad a really good backlog of a
number of great guests and then went to Puerto Rico and then had
a few people had to reschedule. So I'm literally making like I

(29:07):
recorded on Tuesday and that's coming out tonight.
So I'm like right up to modern times, trying to build up a
backlog again in case anything happened 3.
Months ago, I feel like when we were we talked about this, you
had like 3 month, three month backlog.
Yeah, it's it. It wasn't quite that much, but
it was like at least a month. Yeah, it's insane now, so it's

(29:28):
been good. Do what?
You'll be fine. Yeah, yeah, we'll be fine.
Yeah, even if I needed to take abye week, that'd be totally
fine. Maybe I'll put this in place of
one of normal. But to give my every record, we
do need to actually you'd be thefourth or third time.
Third time. Did we do a second?
We did. You were in Australia.

(29:49):
Yeah. Oh, that's right.
Yeah, right before was from Australia.
Yeah, we are the. The bird, the Elsa I was outside
in the mat was the magpie, yes. That's the magpie episode where
you were wondering if it was going to come take your eye out.
I remember someone texted me saying I don't got to worry
about them, it's it's not their mating season so they're not as

(30:11):
territorial. And I'm like, dude, I just, I
just ran outside and got attacked by this.
That's so funny. But yeah, no, it's been going
good. Mark Matthews was like this
episode that I did was not, excuse me, not Mark Matthews.
No, it was Mark Matthews. I recorded with him and Patrick
Amuse and then Kyle Glass now. So I'm trying to get Talbot to

(30:32):
say yes or no. I just wanted to say yes or no.
Like I made this employee. Yeah, dude got to go through
everybody. It's funny because I actually
recorded like a personalized video, uploaded it unlisted to
YouTube, sent it to Kyle to showthe Talbot and he still hasn't
gotten balance. Somebody go give him a hard
time. But Mark Matthews episode, for

(30:54):
whatever reason, like blew all of our records out of the water
by like a factor of four really. And and they did he mentioned
that he was going on the podcasta few episodes before, so maybe
that was why. But we got like hundreds of new
followers from that and multi everything.
He is super interesting guy, obviously super smart and he
also did that like nice click bait where he said was it like

(31:16):
some value? Just the joke.
Married to Kat for the money. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Really funny. Yeah.
So that one has been, was like ahuge setup for us.
Had Tim Don on recently. That was a really cool one.
I'm getting to hear his story. Didn't know much about the whole

(31:37):
Halo incident that he had with that.
I mean, I knew that it happened, but I didn't have any real like
personal contacts for knowing what he went through.
That was that crazy? Yeah.
I was like, was it the day before?
It was, it was days before. It was either No, I think it was
2 days before, two or three daysbefore.
And the cat also got hit in Kona, didn't she?

(31:59):
I don't know if it was in Kona, but yeah, she did get hit.
I remember it was pretty. Bad, Yeah.
Or it might have been like Texasthe two years ago I think was
her like big comeback. Yeah, it's amazing how quick
and. Then like, how?
And then even, Yeah, I mean, that's just wild.
And then where she's at now, yes, it makes it even crazier.
Yeah, science has come a long way.

(32:21):
But no, I got some cool ones. I'm spreading out the wings a
little bit more just to different types of people trying
to get on some ultra runners. I watched Western States and my
friend got 6 and I was just likeI was like I got to do this one
A. 100,000 you. Seth Rolling, he's been on.
Yeah, He's a good kid. He's from Boulder.
He lives, right? Probably super close to you.

(32:43):
Him and his wife add on the Co founder.
Hopefully be a marathoner, so that's one step closer to being
an ultra ultra runner. Once you retire like from being
pro dry, let's go do ultras dude.
That's one thing I can guaranteeI won't do.
I don't. Think you never say never?
You might have a really bad breakup one day and you just

(33:04):
want to go run 100. And the bike probably, but it is
pretty scary. Well, you saw that.
Do you see that post about the how easy it is to just move over
double yellow line? Yes, your viral post.
Yeah, it's really annoying, actually.

(33:25):
Well, yeah, scary. Some of the comments just like
how triggered people get about it, Yeah.
So I want to refer everybody to on the topic.
Phil Guymon just posted a video where he basically, like wrote
himself or wrote a letter to, like, the people whoever
basically would kill him eventually.

(33:46):
He told a crazy story about how somebody almost killed him.
And I was just talking to him about that.
And he said in France, like, he just got back from doing a video
series over there and riding around and in France, like,
there's just no hatred toward cyclists.
But here in the US, it's so high, which is sad.
It's not part of our culture. We're a card culture.
But I wish we had that history like.
Yeah, I don't. I just don't know.

(34:08):
I want to know what's going through their head.
Like even just to. It's rushing.
People just don't have patience.I also typically on it's just
like psychological thing and they just like separate the
human life out of it. When they see the bike, they
just like they don't understand it's a human.
Yeah. And then, yeah.
It's same with Dr. versus driverwith road rage, dude.

(34:30):
They're like, you get so ticked to someone just because there's
like this glass barrier. It's like the dog barking behind
the fence and then you walk around the fence and it's like,
oh look, we're friends now. But the comments felt like.
Yeah, it's, it's ridiculous. Absolutely crazy.
So I said ask Lionel about ask his halibut.
Yeah, next time I come to Tucson, maybe.
I'll ask Halibut. Yeah, he's pretty hard to get

(34:54):
ahold of, Lionel. Let's see.
Do we miss any Justin Real? Our usual guest is on right now.
Playing honest trainer. Honest trainer grinding away.
Hey, what's up boys? Let's see.

(35:16):
OK, so who? So you did Tim Don and you got
coming up who's who, what episode you're releasing next?
So tomorrow or next is tomorrow and it's going to be with Matt
Schuster. He is the Co founder and CEO of
Add Your Labs. I don't know if compared to

(35:36):
them. They're like this protein bar
company that has this pitch thatthey had.
They include this I think it's called leucine.
This particular I forget amino acid chain that helps basically
apply the protein quicker to themuscle.
Some some science. Anyway listen to the episode.
He explains it way better than that.
OK. Definitely listen to it.
But his is really good. Tomorrow I'm recording with

(35:58):
James Mitchell. You know who that is?
Of course. Yeah, one of the best
photographer games out there. Yeah, so it'd be fun to get to
know his story doing Ari Clow organic Iron Man, non Stanford,
just reading off the here. And you did.
You've definitely done Aaron Royal right.
Did Aaron Royal here recently make?
Sure, you get some shit on AaronRoyal from non.

(36:19):
So we'll make sure. Even though, yeah, Aaron's a
fellow podcaster. I didn't even know that.
That's how bad I've been about doing a bunch of research.
I did look like minutes before, I was just doing a little like
it's handy. Like yellow.
Yep. Like games.
Yeah. I sent yellow a message to when
I get him on a. Lot of those guys.

(36:43):
So they've trained together for ages, but every encounter I've
had at these two 100 races, they're all just crazy nice.
Yeah, crazy. Aaron, ELA, Martin, Honestly,
most, most people. You get to know Freddy Funk
pretty good. That I met, I know him pretty
well now. I forget when I first met him, I

(37:03):
think in at the Challenge Champslast year.
And then we were in Beijing alsoat the end of last year.
And that was like a like a very like personal sort of race,
right? There's only 6-6 guys.
Yeah. And everyone was super social
and like wanted to socialize. So we have dinner every night.

(37:26):
And that's just like props to Belinda.
She I feel like she recruited like a really good group.
Oh yeah. So Fred was, Oh yeah, quite a
bit. Belinda, I think since we talked
last two and now, it was a really good episode.
She had me like tearing up a couple.
She's I'll get home. She is the bomb diggity.
I wish that I could work for Belinda.
That would be a great job. Just tell me what to do,

(37:48):
Belinda. I'll do what you want me to do.
So we should go do Roth together.
It, I've watched it. I've watched like a few years
and you see the build up and yousee they have like 150
businesses at the at the X. And then they also have a
homestay program. So this tiny little town tries
to put up all the pros. Yeah, it's incredible.

(38:10):
And then just fans, like if you think fans are pretty good here,
just blown away by the amount ofcheering fans out on courses at
European races. Yeah, I look forward to
hopefully one day doing that. Maybe next year we'll see what
what the what the world pans out.
Yeah, I mean RTSI think Nick hasis always able to get a few to

(38:31):
give out. Yeah, Justin's comment.
What do you say? Track means for first Iron Man
quote we should do raw. Justin, I'd agree.
I bet like it's on his bucket list as well.
Like Fred. Yeah, Fred is doing his first
full as Raw Fred. He's doing it this weekend.

(38:53):
It is the first one. Yeah, and the same with Vince
Louie first full as Raw, I feel.Like that's working into it hard
because he this is his first year doing middle distance to
full distance, right? Vincent Louie.
Like he was doing a few worse last year mostly, I thought.
Like the BTO champs when it was at the Daytona Speedway, he's

(39:16):
done a few. The Oceanside 1, he got hit by
the car there, Yeah. And that was like the battle
between him and Lionel. And then he's done a few.
But yeah, I think fully like Focus now that he doesn't have
any short. Corners.
Good for him. The sport's only going to get
faster, yeah. So question any feelings about

(39:38):
the Iron Man age group rule changes?
I actually didn't read it at all.
So if who was that? Dylan, did you read anything
about it? I did and I watched a couple of
videos. It's essentially all the age
groups it's so it's different a little bit between 70.3 and
point full distance, but this applies to both.
And it's that every age group, the first person who wins that

(40:00):
age group automatically gets thequalification slot and that slot
will roll down only to three places.
OK. And then if nobody accepts it,
and. The top three get it?
Yeah, OK. Isn't that crazy?
Yeah, seems crazy, only one and then from my understanding and
then it goes into a pool of everybody and everybody's times

(40:21):
are adjusted based on the historical past five year
finishing times they're like. Being men and women or this is
on both sides? So for I think that there was a
detail about it being men and women for 70.3 and then owned
and separated men and women for full.
Don't quote me on that, but theyyeah, the the age group that's

(40:45):
typically the fastest for 17.3 versus the full are different
and they would have a factoring of 1.
So but then the less would have like a .9 something.
So it adjusts everybody's time. So you could technically finish
30 minutes to an hour behind someone, but being an older age
bracket and still. I do adjust it is what I did.
So I did read, I saw Mark Matthews story and it was like a

(41:08):
13%. Is that what it was 13%
adjustments per age group or something or is that just did he
pull that out of his? I actually don't know.
He might have been using that asan example, but they like try to
level the playing field I guess.I think it is close to 20.
So per race it doesn't change now.
I don't think so. Yeah, I don't think so.

(41:29):
I'm a little confused because they said like they're going to
allocate slots but there's only what?
How many age groups? Like 20?
20 Something. 22 Adam. But that means there's only 22
slots per race or. Fuse well the winner won from
the the podium and then and then22.

(41:50):
Is it 22 total or 22 through like 3?
Yeah, I think that's what it is,because they're trying to cut
down on the number of participants.
Justin might know, Maybe he's also he said he's prepping for
his anniversary dinner, but he'sgiving us some time, so we got
to take that. Give us your knowledge.
Phone a friend. Yeah, what's up?

(42:14):
Look at all the beers. Yeah, yours is like a girl.
Looks so good, almost looks implanted.
It's so perfect. I don't know about that.
I got some Gray hairs coming in.I'm a little insecure about it.
My wife points them out every day.
Wisdom, my brother, Wisdom. So age group Iron Man changes.
I think for any talented age grouper, the headline is like,

(42:35):
you don't really need to worry about these changes.
My take on the overall, like howit's going to actually impact
people is like, you won't get lucky anymore with a roll down.
Like it's literally it's going to be impossible to get lucky.
Yeah, it's. Like.
Yeah, I don't know how it shouldbe.
It's a world champs. Exactly right.

(42:57):
So do. You know how many are going to
be per race? Is it just one per age group?
No, the allocations are the sameas they've always been, which
means totally random by race. For example, this fall, Iron
Man, California has 45 total slots, men and women.
Iron Man Cozumel has 100 slots. So if you want to qualify for

(43:20):
Kona, you should go to It's gonna be I, I estimate three to
four times easier to qualify forKona at Cozumel than it will be
at Iron Man, Arizona or California.
Wow. Now, when I did Iron Man Cozumel
as an age grouper, I under this rule would have kind of
qualified. I was 6th overall, 4th in my age

(43:43):
group and I missed the slot because just so competitive.
It was my age group just happened to be that competitive
that day and it was 25 to 29. So it basically takes the
allocation out of out of random, yes.
So how many slots your age groupwill get of those 100?
You have no idea. That will be dependent on how

(44:07):
good each age group is on on every given day.
OK, so if there's 22 age groups, let's say age group categories,
so then there's. So we know at Cozumel for
example, you take 20 for example, I don't know if it's
actually 2222 people out of the 100 because they've guaranteed
the spot. So now you have whatever 78 left

(44:28):
and and then those are divided to two.
Whoever is the fastest with thisalgorithm?
And there's a certain percent factor like a a percentage,
which is like call it .9925 to 29.
So male 30 to 34 is the benchmark.
That's 1.0. Then every other age group is

(44:51):
like point 99.98.96 but female 70 to 74 is like .5 S If a 52
year old female I'm just throwing out numbers goes 13
hours or let's call it 14 hours and that's faster adjusted time
than your nine O 5 she's going to get the slot instead of you.

(45:12):
So we're. Going to get some.
We're going to get some proper beef now between couples who do
triathlon. You can save your slot.
From Yeah, from. By the numbers, you can say
who's better with this new. 100%you can and it should divide.
It's not going to be a perfect male to female allocation, but

(45:33):
it will be proportional to the like number of racers and the
performances relative to the benchmark.
So there's no cherry picking. But you should still target
races with more slots, right? That's like the pros too.
Like. We.
Have lots of Frankfurt. Like Frankfurt, the Konos, the
nice slot rolled the 14th. Yeah, I was, that was
surprising, but it makes sense. It's so stacked.

(45:54):
It's in the middle of the year or towards the end of the
qualification period. Yeah, right.
Because our for some people who maybe not know our
qualifications for 70.3 and for Worlds, it's like not just
January to the world Tams. It's like a it's starts in
September last year exactly pretty what it was so.
Frankfurt Placid for the cherry pickers.

(46:17):
They're the most stacked races. Last year I did Plasto Dude, and
Lionel, Trevor and Jackson all didn't have slots.
So you're like, all right, I better be in there than I was.
Quite a few people who won't have slots because, well, yeah,
who are like Jason West is doingit, doesn't have a spot.
Jason and Trevor I think are probably the two highest.

(46:38):
Trevor doesn't have one and thenI don't have one, but I don't
know if that's. Per second would don't give us
that. Dude, what?
I can. We'll see.
We'll see how I feel after a marathon.
You're going. To how many weeks after is it
like 208? That's.
A lot. It's kind of hot in October,
yeah. You got plenty of time.

(46:59):
I would definitely change my whole end of the year, but yeah,
it would be worth it to do. I mean, hey, Martin van Reel's
going to do it. You can do it.
You can still, yeah, talk. And all the two 100 stuff,
right? Because they're they're, they've
built the two 100 around people doing that race.
Now, now the move to I can't flyto Vegas anymore.

(47:20):
Instead it's like a halfway across the world.
If I get the wild card, yeah, I've always wanted to go to or
it's New Zealand, my Lulu bot. No, it's Australia.
I. Actually think it's of course it
sucks it moved, but I think it'sa sick move tying it in with
such another big race yeah the fans when they did it the US

(47:41):
Open, it was awesome they had itwith our age group Nats, USATH
group Nats and then they had some junior races and I think
that's the perfect combination of like obviously getting fans
and then possibly helping grow this yeah when you can get young
athletes yeah exactly watching the.
Yeah. I think they're doing something

(48:02):
in Spain too. At the Valencia 12100.
Spain, yeah, same, same deal. I think there's a WTS race the
day before. They had any plans?
I did that one. I did.
It was a World Cup when I did it.
I mean, some races, you know, they have World Cups one year to
test it out and then they'll move up to a WTCS or whatever
the acronym is. Now.

(48:22):
That was a weird one. It's a crazy race, usually a run
race specific. They did that one, but we raced
a short quarter. It started at 8 or something.
PM. Oh my God.
So it's like it's fine, but it'sso hot and then the sun there at
that time whenever it was didn'tset to like 11.

(48:42):
That's why. OK.
We have one more question about the kind of thing and then I'll
let you guys run the. Shops.
And makes the age factor, they took the average of the top 20%
of each age group at world championship races for the last
five years and then that is the percent factor and then that.
So overall, like it's five yearsfaster, it's getting faster.

(49:09):
So you need to be more insane, yeah.
Yeah. The only problem with it?
No, I don't even think there's aproblem with it.
I was going to say, like Kona's a hot race, but it doesn't
matter because it's relative to the age.
Yeah. It's not relative to your
performance on the day. Like unless a certain gender was
more than more likely to performbetter in the heat versus not or

(49:34):
a. Certain.
Age group was more likely to perform better in the heat.
Like do you do you get better atheat as you age?
I don't think. Yeah, probably not.
I don't know. It's.
Happen everywhere, many of my friends all.
Right, what question what are you doing for date night we're.
Cooking or I'm cooking. Lauren's working till 7:30 then.

(49:55):
Yeah, someone's got to keep the family.
Flip my camera. Oh, there we go.
We're letting some rib eye steaks.
This tub nice. And then we got cast iron's
going to get fired up, and then we got asparagus.
Dang, thanks to the invite. Garlic.
We got some big potatoes, we gota bottle of Mendoza Malbec,

(50:20):
which is where we went on our honeymoon last year to
Argentina. Nice, Was that 1925 the year I
got it? 2020 three $17.00 bottle and
then a tiny little bottle of cheap Prosecco for Lauren and.

(50:41):
Is it my Wi-Fi? Hers is.
No, I think it says. It's OK.
That's a solid date night anniversary.
Justin, you're glitching on us here.
It's it's probably his wife's about what we're eating.
Overload the Wi-Fi. Download everything.

(51:02):
OK, should we just say goodbye to him?
May maybe give? Him, 5 seconds.
Oh, he's back. There he is.
We Justin, we lost you for like 15 seconds.
I. Think we lost him again.
Oh, there is. We love you.

(51:26):
I think there was such a delay, I was just going.
To go back and forth. Yeah, I, it was funny.
He like was talking about sleep there at the end.
It's going to be nice later I. Mean that's like some key key
parts. What is we at least on here for
our last guest? Yeah.
How was it time for you? Yeah, you need to go swim, I

(51:47):
think. Yes, long course meters and it's
100 plus outside. 1st for blast or best for last, Best for
excuse. Me.
Oh, hey, Mark, did you buy some socks?
Are you supporting me? You got some socks?
Yeah, I have tons of socks here that need to be sold.

(52:07):
They made fifty of the wrong colors and then they have $50
and it worked. Same one as you guys going to
do. It works, Lisa say no, I think
she did. Lisa, guys, she's probably going
to get on us for the time being wrong or she's going to be like,
I thought it was Eastern or something like yeah, we had.
Kick her off the cover, phone all.

(52:29):
Right Lacey lost your spot. Even though we haven't done
this, haven't done this. Three months, three months,
we're going to get back to everyother week and.
We have Yeah, dude, what's scaryis every like I'll be well, of
course I travel in two weeks. You're in a SO.
Happy. But I'll be out like Placid.
Well, maybe we'll do like next week.

(52:50):
Next week, yeah, we have a lot of more, more about the
hydration if people are interested in that.
I'm not sure if that was interesting.
Yeah, interesting. And my more of my run plan
because I'll have that more sorted.
And Josh, if you want to buy these and support the pod, I
have no shame. Stupid questions dot show.
Go get them. I'll even I'll send you three

(53:13):
extra of the other players if anyone who will buy.
So they it's like all white, white heel, white top and then
and white. So but then they sent someone
like black toe and black. Yeah, and I just don't like
that. I think that looks chintzy.
So by the way, the the bags for us, they're on their way to here

(53:36):
to the US. So once those get out here,
we'll iron that stuff out. But Mark has this signature Mark
the Shark sat or bar bag that change a lot.
They are $18.00 a pair. The Sun?
Yes, sorry. The pod and you know, it's very
good 'cause. It's very great, 'cause that

(53:58):
feeds me in my family. 01 more thing.
I got a sick sign that's going to be going up there.
It's like this LED. On one, did you go with stupid
questions or at the Q? Just.
As nice OK, a little bit of likemystery in there, but obviously
hopefully they'll know it's stupid questions when they're.
Watching the background, that's.Yeah.

(54:20):
So that's fine around if I votedfor that one or the other.
One, they were just kind of spiton both.
I asked a bunch of people and they were like either.
Yeah, they were both really cool.
Sweet. Well, yeah, you got to go get
your swim and don't skimp on that.
No skimping right in here soon. Lisa.
Yeah. Denied us.

(54:41):
Thanks, Lisa. But we'll for we should forgive
her for this one. It's all right.
I. Didn't give her much for the
heads up, although I did tag herand she did put it in the RTS
story. OK, we'll keep her in it then.
So that's a wrap on Episode 32, 32.
Yeah, that's honestly crazy. Sucks.

(55:02):
So we took a three month break, but we're back.
Sorry. Hopefully we'll get our bed
yours back up again. Yeah, hopefully.
It's all good. We're going.
To find a chair next time that. Make it happen, Mark.
It's a pleasure. We'll have to connect here again
soon enough. Have a good swim.
