Success in business isn't built on motivation but on discipline - the ability to show up consistently even when you don't feel like it. Discipline is the muscle that separates those who achieve their goals from those who remain stuck in cycles of inconsistency.

• Motivation feels exciting but inevitably fades while discipline sustains long-term success
• The biggest growth happens in moments when you don't feel like working but show up anyway
• Shifting your identity to "the kind of business owner who does what needs to be done" reinforces disciplined behavior
• Create non-negotiables in your schedule that happen regardless of how you feel
• Use the five-minute rule when procrastinating - commit to just five minutes and you'll often continue
• Eliminate decision fatigue by planning tasks in advance with a structured weekly schedule
• Track your wins regularly to build momentum and reinforce your discipline
• Successful entrepreneurs aren't more talented - they're more disciplined

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey there and welcome back to my 40k podcast, where
we keep it real about themindset, motivation and strategy
it takes to build a wildlysuccessful business.
For those of you that don'tknow me, I'm Jenny, and today
I'm going to talk aboutsomething that separates those
who make it from those who don't, and it is one word called

(00:25):
discipline.
Now, we all love motivation.
It's exciting when we getmotivated, it's a rush when we
get motivated.
It makes us feel like we can doanything.
But here's the problemMotivation fades, but discipline
that's the thing that keeps youin the game when the excitement

(00:45):
wears off.
Now, if you're serious abouthitting your goals, whether it's
your first 10K months orscaling to 40K months how
amazing would that be or youjust want to build a business
that actually works, you havegot to master the art of
discipline.
So let's get into it.

(01:08):
I remember when I first startedmy business, I would get these
bursts of energy like new ideas, loads of new ideas, fresh
inspiration and a sudden driveto take massive action, and it
was so exciting.
But then life would happen orI'd have a slow week, or a post

(01:29):
that I put out would have zeroengagement, or an offer that I
created, or a lead magnet that Icreated did nothing, and
suddenly my motivation was goneand I'd find myself questioning
everything, wondering if I waseven cut out for this world of
business.
Does that sound familiar to you?

(01:50):
And what I eventually realisedis that successful entrepreneurs
are not the ones who feelinspired all the time.
They're not the ones that runtheir business on motivation.
They're the ones that do thework, no matter how they feel,
because they engage indiscipline.

(02:12):
So discipline isn't aboutwaiting to feel like it, waiting
to feel ready, waiting to haveall of your ducks in a row.
To have all of your ducks in arow.
Discipline is about showing upregardless and taking the steps,
and when you can commit todiscipline consistently over

(02:34):
time, that's when the magichappens.
Discipline is like a muscle youhave to build it, you have to
exercise it in order to make itgrow stronger.
Now, the reason why most peoplestruggle with discipline is
because more people rely onmotivation, and that's why they

(02:54):
stay stuck.
They work when they're excitedand they're upbeat and uplifted
and they've got all of thesefresh, new, wonderful ideas, but
the minute things get tough, they stop or they procrastinate
or, worse, they walk away.
The truth is that the biggestgrowth in your business is going

(03:18):
to happen in the moments thatyou don't feel like working.
I'm sorry to tell you that, butit is the absolute truth.
The biggest growth in yourbusiness is going to happen in
those moments when you don'tfeel like working, but you show
up and do it anyway.
You cannot build a 40k businessby showing up only when you're

(03:44):
in the mood.
Never going to happen.
That's why, inside 40k club mymembership and inside 40k plan
my bespoke service I help womenbuild structured, sustainable
business models and routines, because the secret to success is
not one big action, it is thosesmall, consistent habits, those

(04:07):
small consistent steps that youtake every single day, that
compound over time, thatcompound over time.
So let's talk about identity fora second, because if you

(04:30):
constantly tell yourself I'mjust not disciplined, guess what
?
That's exactly what.
You will be not disciplined.
But instead, if you can shiftinto the identity of, I am the
kind of business owner who doeswhat needs to be done, no matter
what.
And I just want to pause for amoment and I want you to take
that in and I want you to writethis down I am the kind of

(04:53):
business owner who does whatneeds to be done, no matter what
.
Have that visible somewherethat you can see every single
day and keep on remindingyourself of that little
affirmation so that you start toreinforce your discipline to

(05:13):
your business.
Because every time you show up,even when it's hard, you
reinforce the identity that youhave that works around
discipline.
You become the kind of personwho follows through, and when
you become the kind of personthat follows through, no matter
what, that is massively powerfulfor your business and for your

(05:37):
future success.
Now, I know you're busy.
I know you've got a lot goingon.
I know that you are juggling ahuge amount of things in your
life and in your business, butif you want your business to get
from stuck to super successful, you have got to start to build
discipline into your businessand into your life.

(06:01):
So how do you actually builddiscipline when, maybe up until
now, you've just been relying onmotivation?
Here are four simple steps thatyou can take to help you build
your discipline muscle you cantake to help you build your
discipline muscle.
Number one create somenon-negotiables.
I want you to decide right now.
Pause this episode.

(06:22):
Grab a piece of paper, grab apen, take a few minutes.
Decide right now what are theabsolute must-do tasks in your
business, no matter what.
So when I create bespoke 40kplans for ladies that come on
board with those plans, one ofthe first things that we do as

(06:42):
part of that tailored to theirbusiness 40k plan is we look at
the must-do tasks in theirbusiness, that are the
non-negotiables, that are thepriorities, and we make sure
that we fit those tasks into thetime they have available to
work in their business each week.
So there's no expectation oflet's create 30 tasks and try to

(07:05):
fit them into two hours.
It's never going to happen.
The motivation will go, it justwon't work.
But if we create an averageweekly working life in their
business that is 20 hours Someladies are with me, they've got
five hours a week.
Other ladies are with methey've got 30 hours a week.

(07:25):
But let's say 10 hours a weekis an average.
Once we know that that lady has10 hours available to work in
her business each week, then welook at the non-negotiables what
are the non-negotiables and howdo we fit those into the 10
hours a week?
And this is really, reallyimportant because when you know

(07:46):
your non-negotiables whetherit's posting content, emailing
your list, building out products, making offers, doing launches,
creating marketing strategies.
You can take thosenon-negotiables and you can put
them into your schedule so thatyou have a very structured
schedule each week that says, ona Monday morning, I am showing

(08:08):
up and I am creating emails formy list because that's a
non-negotiable and it's on yourschedule every Monday from 9am
until 11am.
When you have non-negotiableslike that and they are on a
schedule that you work to andyou stick to them, that starts
to build the power of discipline.

(08:30):
Number two, using the fiveminute rule.
So when you have those momentswhich you are still going to
have when you don't feel likeworking, what I want you to do
is I want you to just commit tofive minutes when you're ready
to just throw in the towel, oryou're procrastinating, or

(08:51):
you're just not feeling like itbecause your motivation has
disappeared.
I want you to just talk toyourself.
I'm going to set a timer forfive minutes and I'm going to
work for five minutes, and whenI've worked for five minutes,
I'm then going to see if I wantto continue, because most of the
time when you do that, you'llkeep going.
Once you start, starting is thehardest thing Starting to get

(09:14):
in the car to go to the gymevery day.
Starting to get in the kitchento make your smoothie every
morning so you're having ahealthier breakfast.
Starting to put your phone downat 6pm each night to get off
tech.
Starting to have a day off oncea week away from your business.
Starting is the hardest part, but every time you do that thing

(09:35):
you reinforce the disciplinethat you have for it.
So, using the five minute rulewhen you don't feel like working
and you commit to just fiveminutes, it's going to help to
build that discipline muscle sothat you start to show up and
continue to work in thosemoments where you just don't

(09:56):
feel like doing so.
Tip number three is to eliminatedecision fatigue.
This comes back to having aschedule and having on your
schedule what you know you aregoing to do in a structured way
every week, what you know youare going to do in a structured

(10:16):
way every week.
So if you plan your tasks inadvance and if you sit down and
you work with that schedule weekon week as a core schedule in
your business, then you aregoing to get structure.
That is going to make it easierto eliminate decision fatigue
If every day you're sitting downto work and you don't really
know what it is you're going tobe working on and you're making

(10:39):
decisions in the moment, youwill procrastinate, but if you
have a structured plan to follow, that is a schedule you can
show up every day, look at yourschedule and you can think right
right now I am supposed to bewriting a blog post.
Let's get on with it and let'sget it done.
This afternoon.
I've got two hours on myschedule for creating social

(11:02):
content.
Now you know what you're goingto be doing in the afternoon.
So it's really important toeliminate decision fatigue and
the best way to do that is toplan your tasks in advance and
have a schedule that is yourcore schedule that you're going
to stick to.
When any lady joins me inbespoke 40k plans, this is one

(11:22):
of the first things we do aspart of that journey.
They go on with me.
We look at what are the coretasks, that are the priorities
in your business that you havegot to get done, and how many
hours a week do you haveavailable to work in your
business.
Now let's match those things sothat you have a structure that
you're showing up to work toevery day.
That's going to get youprogress, it's going to get you

(11:45):
bigger wins, it's going to getyou success and it's going to
completely eliminate decisionfatigue and grow your discipline
muscle at the same time.
So the fourth tip is to trackyour wins.
At the end of each day or at theend of each week, write down
what it is you have accomplished, because when you see your own
progress, it builds momentum, ithelps to keep you inspired and

(12:08):
it helps to keep you on boardwith your discipline to keep
taking action moving forwards.
Here's what I want you toremember.
You don't need more motivation.
Motivation sucks because itdoesn't stay around.
You need more discipline, andthe best business owners in the

(12:32):
world aren't more talented thanyou.
They're just more disciplinedthan you.
You have absolutely got what ittakes to turn your business
into a massively successfulbusiness for you, but you have
got to show up and bedisciplined about showing up,
even when it feels really hard.
