Speaker 1 (00:14):
Welcome back to
another Super Awesome Mix.
My name is Matt Siddholm, alongside my co-host and
co-founder of Super Awesome Mix,samer Abusalbi.
Samer, how are we doing thisweek?
Speaker 2 (00:24):
I'm doing real well.
Thank you, um.
Today we have our firstfollow-up mix from season one,
and you know what?
I think it absolutely rocks.
And why wouldn't it?
Speaker 1 (00:32):
because it's volume
two of women who rock yeah, this
is definitely you know, we saythis all the time on mixes that,
oh, we could definitely createmultiple volumes of this, we
could definitely create multiplevolumes of that, but um, could
definitely create multiplevolumes of that.
But you know, so I imagine thisis the first of many kind of
volume twos, and maybe beyondthat of some of these themes,
(00:53):
because, yeah, I do think we'vesaid it multiple times around
some of these themes that yeah, there's so many other songs out
there.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
So many, yeah,
unbelievable.
And this mix in particular.
You know we always listen tothem or I always listen to them
at least once or twice beforethe recording, especially if I'm
unfamiliar with the music.
This is one where it's likeagain one of those special ones
where I've listened to it likethree or four or five times
already and like I'm on walksand just like working.
It is a really excellent mix.
(01:22):
We both have some very strongpicks, as I always like to say.
We both understood theassignment this week, so I hope
all of you listeners out thereenjoy and, of course, you can
always reach out to us on ourInstagram at super awesome mix.
We love to hear your thoughtson these picks as we get into
them, and you know which songsdidn't make the cut that you
think absolutely need to bethere, so be sure to follow us
(01:44):
there.
We have a lot of fun.
It's a great community to join.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Yeah.
So without further ado, I meanlet's get into it.
Volume 2 of Women who Rock.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
All right.
Well, we're starting off withyour first pick and I got to say
honestly I think it's myfavorite one.
So starting off real stronghere on this mix, and you went
with Los Ageless by St Vincent.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Yeah, dallas' own St
Vincent.
Real name, ann Clark.
You know she's always had sucha cool vibe about her and I
picked this song because Ireally like the clever title.
Obviously you know to dig atLos Angeles and that's really
what kind of the theme of thissong is Right.
So so the sound, I think, really is a good representation
(02:28):
of a lot of her music.
And then I just love thesongwriting.
I called out one of the lyricsoh my Lord, we really did it.
Now I'm a monster and you're mysacred cow.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
It's amazing.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
She really just you
know the false-looking life that
I guess you know the Hollywoodlife quote-unquote that you
sometimes hear about.
She's really going at it withthis song, so I thought it was
really well done.
But I also think musically it'sa good representation of what
she does and she's got a ton ofgreat music out there.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Yeah, this song rocks
like.
So much I loved it I'velistened to it on uh, on repeat
really, since you introduced itto me.
I even know to hear this mightbe my favorite song you've ever
introduced me to, across allmixes oh my gosh I know, because
I was not familiar with thatit's never gonna get better than
this moment for you, matt thisis it.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
This is it.
We're only in season two.
It's not even like this is our10 000th episode and you've
finally done it.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
You know no you've
done it, I mean well, it'll hold
the spot.
For now, we'll see we'll see ifyou can top yourself, but this
is a really good one.
Yeah, it is just an amazingrock song.
The lyrics are so good.
I mean she does not hold backagainst the city of los angeles
and kind the stereotypical, often sadly correct views of
that city.
The lines that I really likedare kind of early in verse one
(03:52):
where she says in Los Angelesthe winter never comes.
In Los Angeles the mothers milktheir young, and just such rich
imagery with that line rightthat it's like you know, I guess
, really going after the peoplewho kind of just like groom
their children for stardom andand you know, for their own
purposes.
And yeah, pretty harsh lyricshere, but such a good rock song,
(04:13):
so really nice pick, well doneyeah, this might fall into that
category of like.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
The lyrics don't
quite match the cool vibe of the
song, right like you're reallydigging the song and then it's
like, okay, it's a littleharsher than maybe I thought,
but yeah, all right, so let's goto your first pick.
And everybody is on this song,I think over the last couple of
months, and you know why, afterI tell you the title, running Up
that Hill, parentheses, a DealWith God by, of course, kate
(04:39):
Bush.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Yeah, you know.
I mean I feel like I've beenshopping for a reason to include
this song in one of our mixes.
It's just it's there's no wayit's been talked about enough,
matt, you know, I'm just tryingto just trying to bring it back
up because I think strangerthings.
Like they helped her a littlebit, but like this, show is
gonna really was.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
It's gonna put her
over the top.
I think, yeah, it's the superawesome mix bump that she's
looking for.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
It's not the stranger
things bump yeah no, but yeah,
I I mean like most of the worldhave also become obsessed with
this song.
I still enjoy it.
Um, I just think like what agreat pick, you know and and
it's.
It's so amazing we always talkabout.
Like Matt and I get annoyedwhenever you read and maybe're
(05:25):
like us, you read these likecreator stories of people who've
become very successful and theytalk about this like oh, just
one morning it was like this bigsuccess and like that really
never happens, right, like it'sa lot of work to get to that
point, even if it was aso-called overnight.
Like there are years of prep.
But I have to like this is kindof fun for kate bush because I
have to imagine literally onemorning she woke up and was like
(05:46):
whoa, what happened?
Why is my song it's my 30 yearsong, 30 year old song suddenly
charting?
Everyone is listening to it.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Yeah, that's a pretty
special thing.
Yeah, there's no doubt.
There was definitely thatmoment where I was like, wow,
this is, this is really a thing.
Uh, yeah, and it started to getjust some regular radio play
too.
I know, you know, my kids are alittle young to watch stranger
things and um, but this songcame on the radio and even my
daughter, who's nine, was like, hey, what is this?
(06:20):
Who is, who is this person?
And I was like, oh, it's katebush and she's like this is a
great song.
And so just even by itself, shedidn't even have the stranger
things context to kind of pullher in.
Just hearing the song for thefirst time, she was really into
it.
Um, so you know, definitely coolyeah, definitely cool from that
sense that people definitelyhave the attachment to the show
(06:40):
with it.
But even I think some peopleare just discovering not just
this song but probably a lot ofKate Bush songs just based on
this yeah, no, totally, and Ithink that that's you know.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
We've talked a lot
about music, uh, in movies and
in tv shows, and the power thatit has to like introduce people
to songs in mass, and so I wasvery happy to be introduced to
this one because she is sotalented.
This song is just like it.
I think it's gonna have a lotof staying power going into the
future because it is just sogood and, yeah, I've just been
obsessed with it.
So very happy for StrangerThings to introduce us you know
(07:11):
all the whole world to Kate Bushand her greatness.
Apparently, it was Winona Ryderwho really pushed for this pick
too, so she's kind of thechampion of why the song made it
on that show.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
That would make sense
.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
That would make sense
.
Would make sense.
Yeah, yeah, I could see that, right, yeah, growing up with her
.
Um, all right, track three comeon.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Come on by cheryl
crow okay, I'm just gonna get it
out of the way first.
My least favorite cheryl crowsong is all I want to do and I'm
like I I have multiple cherylcrow albums, like I'm a big fan
of her work and so if anyone'sout there rolling their eyes
just being like a Sheryl Crowbecause you only know, like some
of the radio hits, dig into hercatalog because she's got so
(07:54):
many great songs.
This was the, I think, a leadsingle off one of her albums
entitled Come On, come On, and Ijust thought it was a good
representation of like a reallycool rock song and just some of
her songwriting.
But I think she just has a tonof great songs.
I think there's a ton of them Icould have picked here.
Um, but yeah, I mean she's gotsuch an amazing voice, um, but
(08:17):
yeah, again, all you ever hearis all I want to do and I just
can't stand that song.
So I'm just going to get thatout of the way so people kind of
understand where I'm comingfrom.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Um, I haven't heard a
word that you said, because
I've just been singing thatchorus in my mind over and over
since, since you mentioned that.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
That's what I didn't
want to do yeah I'm so sorry.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
I'm because all I
want to do, matt, is have some
fun okay, so, and I've got a lotjust in regular, that I'm not
the only one, it's true.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
I bring that up I'm
not the only one.
Um, you're right, I reallydon't have like a deep knowledge
of cheryl crow's catalog, sothis is one that I had not heard
before, but, um, I really likeit.
I love the lyrics here and it'sfunny I can relate to this idea
of like a relationship that youjust keep coming back to.
That is not a good one to comeback to.
(09:07):
I love the bridge.
Like you took the best of meand threw it away Too bad.
The rest of me still wants youto stay and I just like that's
so relatable, right.
Like sometimes we have thesebad relationships and like you
know you want to leave and it'sthe right thing to do, but you
just keep finding yourself rightback there again.
Right, for whatever reason, so Ireally liked it.
Yeah, I think the songwritingis great and I think her singing
(09:30):
it is awesome and definitelydeserves to be on the Women who
Rock mix.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
Hi, I'm Larry
Hackenberg.

grew up listening to.

forget to give us a five-starrating after you've listened.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
All right, now your
next pick.
This is a band you've beentalking about just offline, uh,
for the last several weeks, soI'm glad you got them on a mix.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
you've got burning by
the yeah, yeah, yes yeah, I
think this is gonna be like mynext florence and the machine,
like obsession, it's just gonna.
We're gonna do like mixes of,like song and band names that
begin with three y's, um, andI'll be like, oh, I got the one.
So, yes, they have a new albumcoming out.
(10:51):
The vocalist and pianist here, karen oh, is why this song made
the Women who Rock, because sheabsolutely rocks.
She is an amazing rock star.
This song in particular has justbeen on repeat for me since its
release.
I listen to it at least once aday, really excited for the rest
of the album.
Only two singles at the time ofthis recording have been
released, so can't wait to playum that whole album.
(11:14):
And again, if you follow us oninstagram, I'm sure I'll be
talking all about it.
You'll get tired of it.
Um, really like, I mean I justlove the piano play in this song
.
I think it's so strong.
It's basically like four notesthat repeat throughout it, but
it just works so well.
And I love the chorus, chorus, you know her singing into the
sea out of the fire, all thatburning, and then there's, like
(11:35):
some, I think, violin play thatkicks in.
I mean it is just like such awell-produced song and cannot
wait again.
Cannot wait for this to comeout.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
So I was not familiar
.
Even though you keep talkingabout them, I still haven't
gotten around to like all right, let me jump into their catalog.
So, listening to this song, Ireally like the piano intro, but
then about a minute and a halfin is when it kind of kicks in
in this song and yeah, from thatpoint on I was just all in.
I was like this is a great song, this is really cool.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
So really love the
vibe of this one and the sound
of it, so I'm definitely goingto be doing a deeper dive into
their catalog to see if I canbecome as big a fan as you are.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
Nice.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
I don't know if
that's possible, but I'm going
to try.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
Yeah, we'll see.
And this is a great song too,in terms of the lyrics, that I
still can't work out what theymean, and I'm OK with that.
I almost would rather havesongs that I don't know what
they're singing about, so that Icould just make it about
whatever I want it to be.
So that's great.
But if you know what these mean, if you've got an insider tip,
(12:38):
be sure to reach out and let meknow.
But all right, let's move on totrack five here.
Your next pick, and you wentwith, according to you, by
Orianti.
I'm hoping I'm pronouncing thatright, yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
I think that's right.
I think that's right.
She's an australian guitarist,uh, and she's incredible like
just as a guitarist, and so thiswas probably her big, probably
her biggest pop hit.
Probably that's out there andum, but she's performed, like
just from a guitar standpoint.
She's been on stage with alicecooper, uh, even michael jackson
when he was still alive.
Um, she was like a prodigy andI guess when, like Steve Vai or
(13:14):
Carlos Santana had rolledthrough Australia when she was
like 18, she got a chance tolike jam with them.
So I mean, if you listen to thissong, once it gets to the
guitar solo, it's just like, ohmy god, this is ridiculous, but
it's a really cool song too.
I really like the message inthis one.
You know it's like just coolsong too.
I really like the message inthis one.
You know it's like just the.
You know, according to you I'mterrible, but according to him
(13:36):
he loves everything about me,right, and so it's kind of
really well done, kind of this.
You know F you song to this.
You know X of hers.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Right.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
But yeah, I really
put it on here because I was
looking for a song Well.
But yeah, I really put it onhere because I was looking for a
song Well one.
I do like the message, but Ijust want to highlight her
guitar playing.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
I'm just like she's
incredible, oh, it's so good,
it's funny.
I feel the way she feels aboutthis person.
Like whenever I get like aone-star review and a five-star
review, I'm like, well,according to the five-star
review, I am awesome.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
So, one star review
person, you, you know nothing
yeah, so some people out thereleave us some five star reviews,
but on the off chance that weget a bad review.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Just know we'll be
listening to this song, yeah
exactly this is what's gonna getus through those dark, those
dark times.
Yeah, I, I really like thissong.
It had like a pink vibe to me,right, like it kind of sounds
like like, um, a song like pinkwould sing so uh, just
absolutely rock.
She's awesome.
I had not I was not familiarwith her either.
Um, a lot of your picks Iwasn't familiar with, which is
(14:42):
always fun to kind of like findsome new music.
So this is really good.
I like it a lot nice, all rightyour next pick, you've got
anywhere with you.
By maggie rogers all right, soshout out to jen.
Um, one of our wonderfulco-hosts on the super awesome
mix network, she has her ownshow.
What are you listening to?
Be sure to follow that, if youaren't already.
(15:03):
Um, she introduced, I think, certainly me, and I think maybe
you as well.
Matt to maggie, maggie Rogers, and Maggie Rogers has a new
album that just recentlyreleased, called Surrender.
I literally text Jen once aweek.
Being like Jen, I'm stilllistening to this album.
It is so good I cannot getenough.
It was a hard job for me topick a song off of the album.
(15:24):
I think this is.
You know, any of them couldhave gone on here, so I went
with Anywhere With you.
I am like just obsessed withmaggie rogers as a human being
too, like she literallygraduated from the harvard
divinity school earlier thisyear, in may of 2022, and, you
know, hopefully she listened toour graduation mix when she did,
because, um, I'm sure she's alistener.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
I'm sure she did.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
I'm sure she did yeah
it's a great, it's a great mix,
um.
But yeah, like she, she hasthis really interesting story.
Like she was basically kind ofdiscovered by Pharrell, like you
know, playing this song whileshe was at NYU and then her
career just kind of started totake off from there and she
absolutely deserves it becauseshe's super talented and she
absolutely rocks.
So very excited to have beenintroduced to Maggie Rogers and
(16:08):
again, I've been listening toher nonstop and will continue to
into the future.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
I agree.
This is awesome.
It's right up my alley.
She's just a great songwriter,like you know.
The lyrics that I called outimmediately roll the windows,
kill the radio.
I'd rather hear the wind thanthat song I'm supposed to know
by some effing bro.
And I edited that she actuallyactually says the word there.
I just went ahead and edited it.
But, yeah, I mean, I just lovethat.
(16:35):
I'm like this is really goodand, um, I, yeah, I think the
songwriting really stood out tome.
But she's super talented.
I'm sure.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
I'm sure she's going
to be on a number of mixes in
the future absolutely yeah, andI literally wrote that line too
to share as well, because herdelivery of it is perfect too,
and I think that that's like theother gem of her song songs is
like she just will throw a linein there that is like whoa, ok,
like that was pretty awesome, ok, cool.
(17:03):
Track seven All American Girlby Melissa Etheridge.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
Yeah, so I mean I
include Sheryl Crow.
I was like Melissa Etheridgecame to mind and I was like, all
right, what should we includehere?
You know a song like Am I theOnly One or I'm the Only One,
that that was a big hit for herand that definitely rocks.
But I wanted to dig in a littlebit more to her catalog and
find something that maybe wasoff the beaten path.
So found the song All AmericanGirl, Girl, and it's from an
(17:31):
album in 1993 called yes, I Am.
But yeah, I mean the lyricsdon't really match the upbeat
nature of the song, Like it'skind of a you know hard drive
and rock song, but it's reallyabout this woman struggling in,
you know, as Melissa Etheridgecalls it, you know this man's
world, but you know, I justthink like her voice, you know,
(17:53):
adds like this emotion to thewhole song, like there's a mix
of like strength and kind ofhope.
You know, even though, like thesituation is a little bleak, I
like the fact that I feel likethe music in this and just the
sound of her voice gives you alittle hope for this person
while you're listening to thesong.
But music in this and just thesound of her voice gives you a
little hope for this person, um,while you're listening to the
(18:13):
song.
But um, yeah, just called outthis one.
But I mean she's got a ton ofgreat like rock songs, kind of
in the same vein as cheryl croweis.
Like you may not like the stuffyou've heard on the radio, but
it's definitely worth kind ofgoing back through all the
albums they've done and findingsome good stuff yeah, I, I knew,
knew Melissa Etheridge.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
I did not know this
song in particular.
I had the exact same take on thelyrics where it's like, again,
like the song rocked and then Istarted reading the lyrics and I
was like, oh, this is kind ofrough, like it's a sad kind of
setup and, unfortunately, likeone that is all too real for a
lot of people, where you knowit's like it is a struggle to
(18:51):
make all these things work inyour life, you know, especially
when, like, the odds can beagainst you.
But I agree, I do think thatthere is like a hopefulness to
it despite all of that, and Ithink that that, like, my
reading of it was like that islike the, you know the American
part of, like the all Americangirl.
It's like the, this desire tolike push against what you know,
against your boundaries, andkeep going and have that
(19:14):
strength to do it despite allthe challenges in front of you.
So, yeah, it's a reallyinteresting song in that way.
That was my take on it.
Despite everything going on,you push through and, yeah,
having all that wrapped up withher gorgeous voice and this rock
song makes this a very strongpick.
Nice All right, a very strongpick nice, all right, uh, your
(19:36):
next pick you went with clearestblue by churches.
Yeah, churches with a v, um, a.
Uh, yes, I really like churches.
They kind of remind me ofmetric in a way.
Um, which is another band Ibelieve yeah, metric was on our
volume one of women who rock.
So this is lauren mayberry onlead vocals, and I just like I
love her voice, like her voiceis the band.
I know that happens a lot withwith bands, of course, like the
(19:59):
lead vocals really kind of setthe tone and this is certainly
one of those.
But I just love how the songbuilds.
I love, like the electronicsound that it has.
I could absolutely listen tothis nonstop on repeat.
Like I think it's one of theseones where, as I was listening
to it, even this morning beforethis recording, I found myself
turning the volume up and I feellike that's like if we ever
(20:21):
wanted to make that mix.
It's like songs where it's likeyou start low and it's like you
literally can't help yourself.
You just have to turn it upbecause it's so good that you
need to experience it louder, and this was one of those.
So that's why it made the mix.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Nice.
Yeah, I definitely like thesound of this one.
I was not familiar withChurch's, but you know, I feel
like it had kind of a modernfeel, but I also get kind of
throwback, kind of Brit popvibes from it, while I was
listening to it.
So I was really into thatbecause I'm a big fan of that,
that brit pop era, especiallythat 90s stuff, um, and yeah, I
(20:55):
was just like man, this isreally, it's a cool sound.
About two minutes in this, thisthing really picks up.
So I think that speaks to your.
You know, as the song goesalong, you want to keep turning
it up.
I think they pick up the paceabout two minutes in that, so
that probably probably lendsitself to your your desire to do
that.
But yeah, just just a greatsong.
I really thought it was apretty neat, and so that's
(21:16):
another band that, um, I'llprobably have to listen to a bit
, listen to a little bit moreand get into more of their stuff
nice, all right.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
Well, speaking of a
group that um, or a, a musician
that I certainly knew nothingabout, and I'm so happy that now
I know exists your next pick, number nine Default Shell by
Khaki King.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
Yeah.
So I discovered Khaki King whenI was looking for epic guitar
solos, when we did that mix, because her name kept coming up
as like this amazing guitarist.
Now I didn't think any of hersongs necessarily fit that mix,
but then when I was like allright, women who rock, I was
like, yeah, I think this issomething we could put on here.
Um, and I think this song isjust.
(22:00):
I mean, shows you can see, youyou can hear the skill level in
her playing in this song andit's just unreal how, uh, how
skillful she is.
You know, digging into hercareer, it's like she worked
with eddie vetter on the intothe wild soundtrack.
She's toured with foo fightersand the mountain goats show.
(22:20):
You know, the more I dug intoit, it seems like she's a
musician that you know, othermusicians know, but she may not
have a big public facing image.
It's kind of like she's likethe female Tim Reynolds, right.
And Tim Reynolds kind of cameto fame when Dave Matthews
started just bringing him onevery tour and everyone was like
who's that guy, right?
But he was a guy that I guesseveryone in the music world kind
(22:43):
of knew as this unbelievableguitarist and now he's sort of
just part of Dave Matthews' band, but yeah, I mean just an
incredible talent.
Most of her songs areinstrumentals, but it's just got
this really cool vibe to it.
So I definitely would recommendyou go check her out.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Yeah, oh my gosh.
I hit play on this one andimmediately I was like wait,
what is happening?
This is so cool.
It was like I wrote.
I was like this reminds me oflike Spanish guitar meets
Mumford and Sons or somethingyou know like it's.
It's unbelievable how, how herfingers can move on that guitar
(23:23):
Like it's so, so good it'sridiculous, yeah, I mean, you
can't even believe that.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
It's not like a
machine creating these sounds.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
Right yeah, catherine
Elizabeth King is her full name
and wow, she rocks.
Yeah, really nice pick.
I was so happy to be introducedto this song as well.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
Okay, your next pick.
You went with Worrying by theJoy Formidable.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
All right, I mean
literally one of my all-time
favorites.
I thought about putting on myDesert Island mix oh, so long
ago now, more than two years ago, because it's a song I come
back to over and over again.
It's also the song that likecreated um desire for me to have
like a build-up mix, like thisidea of a song that starts kind
of softer and then just likecrescendos at the end and it's
(24:14):
total madness and craziness.
This is that song that I wouldlisten to for that purpose and I
was like I bet there's othersongs out there that are like
this.
Um, and so lead singer ritzybrian is um is the reason that
this is a women who rock pick.
She absolutely like kicks ass onthis song.
It is so good.
I think I mean like the lastfour minutes roughly are nothing
(24:37):
but just guitars and drums thatjust keep going and going and
going.
I also use this whenever I runas like my go home song.
So if I'm, you know the lastlike mile or so, my go-home song
.
So if I'm, you know, the lastlike mile or so to go.
It's perfect for that, becauseyou just find yourself like I'll
time it kind of in my mind likeevery 30 seconds roughly.
I'll go a little bit faster anda little bit faster.
So by the time you hit minutelike six something.
(24:59):
Whatever the length of thissong, it's, it's really long.
You're just all out sprintingand it works with the music.
So, yeah, oh, my goodness, Ilove it.
And she lends, yeah, justbeautiful vocals on top of it in
the beginning of the song yeah,I found this song at the
beginning just almost to be alittle bit unnerving.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
Like it had this just
kind of constant snare drum I
think that's what was getting me.
And then, you're right, it justslowly picks up and picks up
and then, you're right, the lastthree, four minutes it's just
this crazy, you know musicalsolo kind of thing, like this
guitar is going on and on.
So, yeah, it's really prettycool here, but the lyric I
(25:39):
called out is all these thingsabout me you never can tell you
make me sleep so badly, invisible friend.
I was like, yeah, that's areally like unnerving kind of
line, like right, like and, andso I don't know.
There was something about thissong that kind of got me, but I
was definitely into it, um, andI think that speaks to a good
song, even if it does anytime itmakes you feel anything.
(26:00):
I think that's a sign of a goodsong um exactly, yeah here you
can definitely kind of feel the,the emotion and like what's
going on, and then you kind ofget this explosion at the end.
So yeah I mean it's, it wasreally cool awesome.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
Okay, down to, it's
gonna say down to the wire.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
Um, here we go, the
last song, the wire by heim yeah
, so if you listen to the showregularly, you know, in 2022,
I've conceded to adding Haim andMacklemore to just my regular
rotation of songs.
Right, we all have a regularrotation of artists we go back
to, and these two have made therotation for me in 2022.
(26:41):
So I was definitely going toinclude them on this.
Women who Rock mix 2022.
So I was definitely going toinclude them on this.
Women who rock mix um, you know, it's all.
This is off their first albumand I think it's just a great
representation of again whatthey do vocally, where they
harmonize together and just doall those cool things with their
voices.
But then, you know, youdefinitely get some guitar and
(27:01):
just kind of a cool rock vibe tothis.
It's funny, the first time Iheard this song, it immediately
reminded me of the Eagles, andsure enough, they sample
Heartache Tonight in this, whichis why it reminded me of the
Eagles.
But if you listen to this, andyou're kind of like what is that
?
Speaker 2 (27:19):
That sounds familiar.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
That's what it is.
It was actually a sample, butyou don't think of samples
sometimes when you think of rockbands, but sometimes it's there
.
But anyway it's a yeah, justjust a really cool song.
But again, I've been toutingtheir whole catalog this year,
so definitely go go and justlisten to all their music.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
Yeah, exactly, I have
Jen to thank for this one too,
because she again reminded me,at least, that it's like, oh
right, I'm like really rock.
So they have some great songs,uh, and their music videos are a
lot of fun.
We've talked about them before.
It's literally them just kindof like running around los
angeles, um, and yeah, they're,they're so musically talented.
I watched them perform at thegrammys a couple years ago and
(28:00):
they just they're a great rockgroup, like just a great rock
group.
And yeah, these three sistersare certainly not done making
music, I think, for many, manyyears, and I'm excited to to
keep listening to what they havenext.
Speaker 1 (28:14):
All right, your last
pick.
You went with Either Way byBully.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Yeah, this one is
really cool.
This actually came as arecommendation from one of our
Instagram followers.
So, again, like, we get a lotof music recs from from
listeners just like you whofollow us on instagram.
We really appreciate that.
So bully was uh, someone dm'dme to like, introduce me to
bully and and I just fell inlove.
I was like, oh my goodness, thissinger, um known as uh, her
real name, is alicia bognano.
(28:42):
Uh, she signed with sub poprecords.
She is, I mean, it's like apunk album in a way, but it's
like a modern punk or something,if that's a thing, because, um,
it doesn't sound exactly likeold punk but, oh my gosh, I love
it.
It kind of reminds me of likeearly or mid blink, 22 days.
Um, she has an incredible voice.
This song just like rocks.
(29:03):
So the guitar, like solo in itis amazing.
It is, yeah, like such a great, and this song in particular off
of this album.
I would also recommendlistening to Feel the Same,
which opens up the albumExcellent, excellent song.
But, yeah, I've just beenlistening to it nonstop.
So I really appreciate therecommendation and absolutely
had to add it to our volume twoof Women who Rock and absolutely
(29:27):
had to add it to our volume twoof Women who Rock.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
Yeah, her voice and
the way she just kind of lets it
go kind of reminded me ofeither like a Joan Jett or Janis
Joplin kind of thing.
So, yeah, definitely a coolvibe and it definitely rocks.
It's a short song, it's onlylike two minutes long, but it's
great, and I thought this wasperfect for the last song,
because the line says I want youanyway, anyway, even if you
can't stay, and and it's thelast song we can't stay, we're
(29:50):
done, we're done with this mixright even though we know the
listeners want more, right yeah?
Speaker 2 (29:57):
absolutely.
Yeah, well, good news, we havetwo full seasons.
Uh, for you to discover and goback and listen to over and over
again that.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
That's right.
But for today, there's anothersuper awesome mix for your
collection, this time our firstvolume, two Women who Rock.
So we'll get to work on ournext mix, whether it's an
original or another volume ofsomething we've done in the past
.
But for Samer, this is Matt andwe'll see you then.
