How you doing today, phil?
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Hey, i'm doing pretty
great.
I'm honored to be here.
I was about to actually just gotake a nap, and then what's his
name?
God, i'm messing this upalready.
I forgot the name of thecharacter, the name of the actor
(01:13):
that plays Pentecost, and I'moff to a terrible start.
So, nope, i thought I had it.
I lost it.
So, hey, i'm doing pretty.
I thought I was doing.
Oh, ijas Elba, there we go.
I just wanted to go take a nap,and then Ijas Elba stormed in
and gave me this really, reallygreat speech about joining Zebra
Bracket Bros.
So here I am.
He canceled your nap.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Is that what you're
saying?
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Yeah, He just keeps
like tonight we're going to
cancel your nap, phil.
I was like fine, okay, here Iam.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Yeah, what a great,
seamless intro that was.
I'm so glad that you could makeit, unlike various other
co-hosts that I've had in mypast.
now, but we went through withthe application process that I
think we talked about so manyepisodes ago, and I'm glad that
you could finally be here todayas the official co-host of Super
(02:10):
Bracket Bros.
So thank you so much for comingon, Phil.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Yeah, and once I get
Eric out of here, I'll return
the favor.
Perfect.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Today we are talking
about Gypsy Danger vs Shara as
Valda as a first round episode.
How today's episode is going tobreak down is we have first we
do have a guest to introduce andget to know.
then the bulk half of the firstepisode is going to be getting
to know our fighters today, andthen the back half we will be
breaking down who would win in afight between Gypsy Danger and
(02:40):
Shara as Valda.
But, like I said, we have aguest today.
Our guest today is one of thehosts of your friendly
neighborhood gamers.
Your friendly neighborhoodgamers is the perfect place to
have a casual conversation.
gets it tuned in to two on yourlevel gamers.
It really is a freshperspective in the flood of
(03:01):
media that you can get sometimeswhen you tune into gaming, And
so I always appreciate yourfriendly neighborhood gamers.
I was on there recently for aneighborhood watch episode where
we talked about the games thatwe were playing.
I got to host a game.
That was a fantastic time onthat episode, so definitely go
and check that out, but withoutfurther ado, please welcome to
the show once again, dylan Ren.
(03:22):
How are you doing today, dylan?
Speaker 3 (03:23):
I am doing great.
Thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
How are you feeling
about today's episode?
Speaker 3 (03:27):
I mean good, i really
like both of these contenders
here, so I'm not going to bedisappointed, no matter who's
walking away from this one, unlike previous times where it
has seemed as though it waschanging.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
It's a big change for
you.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
Yeah, Normally you
kill off one of my dearly held
fictional characters, justunceremoniously pit them against
someone way out of their class.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
Man seems like that's
a theme here at Super Braggart
Brothers.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Yeah, weird.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Well, i think we're
going to change that.
today I think we've got apretty good matchup in front of
us.
I think we've got, you know,it's a four versus 13 seed, but
today I really feel stronglythat this is a very close
matchup, but I'm really lookingforward to getting into it.
Hopefully, dylan, we won'tdisappoint you, for the 17th
million time on Super Braggart.
(04:24):
Brothers Oh yeah, we'll find away.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Well, yeah, i mean
the ghosts of Garrus, and you
know all of the other characters.
I've come on and lost over theyears.
You know they're with me todaywatching this match.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
It's all just Mass
Effect characters.
Dylan, It really is.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
You'd think that they
were strong.
But you know, there's like thestuff in Mass Effect seems
ridiculous.
They are killing literalapocalypse aliens and then you
pit them against some of thesecrazy.
You know other characters fromother universes.
It's like oh wow, i guessGarrus is not that great.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
I mean he's space
Batman, but I mean, even Batman
lost the melee tournament.
So you know, i mean I feelstrongly that Mass Effect will
have its day on Super BraggartBros, yes, so I don't doubt that
, and which you know, leads meinto my next question here.
Dylan, i know you've been onthe show a lot, but I still want
(05:29):
to give our audience a chanceto get to know you a little bit
better.
And so do you have onefictional character that you
would want to be your real lifebest friend?
Speaker 3 (05:42):
When you asked me
this question, like in the chat,
to kind of give me a little bitof time to think about it, the
first one that popped in my headwas like Samwise Gamgee, and I
don't think I'm going to changethat answer just because, like
that seems like a probably oneof the ideal ones for me.
You know, like a very chill, laid back guy, not too concerned
(06:04):
with all, i mean like did thewhole Lord of the Rings thing,
but you know, afterwards justkind of came back to the Shire,
settled down and was like, yeah,i'm just living my best life
And that seems, you know, likeI'm tempted to pick someone like
Garrus.
But then I'm like, but thenthere's like this whole thing
(06:27):
about they have to be like thisbig hero A lot of expectations
And that just seemed yeah, there's expectations.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
That's a lot of drama
, That's a lot of like Can we
just go to a movie?
Yeah, do we have to assassinatesomeone right now?
Speaker 3 (06:40):
Exactly Like Samwise.
Gamgee is just like hey, youwant to go down to the little
tavern Have some drinks.
Like, go hang out, smoke a pipe.
Like yeah, sure, Sounds ideal.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
I think Caleb said
the same thing I think I asked
him.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
That would make sense
.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Someone has said
Samwise before and I'm starting
to think that I need to stopasking this question, because it
is just the right answer, likeSo, phil, but What's your wrong
answer?
Yeah, i guess the things aresetting me up for my incorrect
answer.
I guess.
(07:20):
Phil, let's turn it over to you.
You're actually, you know, i'vegot these questions and I ask
everybody of them in a row andyou both are actually on the
same question at the same time, which is some sort of a miracle
at this point in Super CracketBros history.
But if you could have onefictional character be your real
life best friend, who would itbe?
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Yeah and honestly
this is going to seem like a
shameless plug, but you know, coming off of you know you and
I's episode just last weektalking about the season finale
of a show that's very near anddear to us, I think another
really good answer is Ted Lasso,I think a guy that would keep
you built up, keep you positive,But also somebody that is open,
(07:59):
somebody that you can have openconversations with and actively
like grow that friendship andalso make each other better.
I think that's a pretty goodanswer.
So I know I definitely couldhave gone with either Arnold or
Gerald, as I typically go to theHayward Universe, but switching
it up a little bit here.
I think Ted has proven to be areally, really good friend to
(08:19):
many people, so I think that'dbe a pretty good choice.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Ted is actually a
very excellent answer.
Yeah, no, i've got a lot ofrespect for that.
As soon as you said that, itbrought me to the Ted Lasso
Universe and I thought of myfavorite character, which I
shared on your Thursday thoughtpost, was Roy Kent, and I was
like do I want Roy Kent to be mybest friend?
Speaker 2 (08:42):
I thought about that
as well.
I'm not a professional athlete.
I don't want to work out, idon't want to do any of that.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
Yeah, think about how
much better he would make you,
i mean, just like Jamie.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
He would avoid.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
I mean Jamie's like
one of the best players in the
league.
now you know, like Roy, I meanhe could.
he could push to the next level.
I mean, just imagine himcoaching you at podcasting, Like
he doesn't have to knowanything about podcasting Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
But I think you'd
better Adjust your game.
You're right, roy Ken.
Thank you.
Yeah, I also considered Sam.
I thought Sam might be a goodchoice too.
I considered Sam Ovisania.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
Sam would be
excellent too, just so genuine
and friendly.
And, yeah, no, absolutely That, both and both.
I mean really any of the youknow protagonist group or any of
the main cast from from, fromTed Lasso, would be fantastic.
But let's get into today's mainsubject, shall we?
So let's talk about thesecharacters, let's introduce them
(09:40):
, get to know them, talk abouthow our guests know them And
then, like I said, the back halfwe're going to be talking about
who would win in a fight.
Let's kick things off withGypsy Danger.
Gypsy Danger is an American MarkIII Jaeger designed to fight
and destroy the Kaiju whothreatened the existence of
humanity, and the 2013 filmPacific Rim.
(10:02):
While the Kaiju constantly riseup out of an interdimensional
portal in the Pacific Ocean,Jaegers from every country
deploy to meet each one andbattle the beasts head on.
Gypsy Danger was originallypiloted by Yancey and Raleigh
Becket Brothers.
Before the events of the firstmovie see Yancey killed in
battle, mako Mori takes hisplace next to Raleigh, and these
(10:23):
are the pilots navigating GypsyDanger today.
The mech itself is mostlydesigned for melee combat,
possessing short range plasmablast jet powered fists and a
whip ass sword.
Pacific Rim is an entirelyoriginal universe created by the
team of director Guillermo delToro and writer Travis Beacham.
Beacham is known for co-writingdog days of summer clashes at
(10:45):
Titans and, more recently, proposing the concept of the
Amazon Prime series Carnival Row.
Del Toro is an award-winningdirector known for his
fascination with monsters allthe way from the Kaiju of this
film all the way to 2017's TheShape of Water.
While I was doing some reach toJohn Del Toro, i had one quote
that really stuck out to meabout him talking about this
(11:07):
movie, and he said the pilot'ssmaller stories actually make a
bigger point, which is thatwe're all together in the same
robot.
In life, either we get along orwe die.
I didn't want this to be arecruitment ad or anything
jingoistic.
The idea of the movie is justfor us to trust each other, to
cross over barriers of color, sex, beliefs, whatever, and just
(11:27):
stick together.
Then, speaking about the designof Gypsy Danger, del Toro cited
John Wayne as inspiration forhow the mech walked and moved.
He also talked about the designof the mech being modeled after
the American art deco style, after buildings like the Empire
State Building and the ChryslerBuilding.
As for the pilots themselves, wehave Beckett, portrayed by
Charlie Hunnam, who you may knowfrom the FX series Sons of
(11:48):
Anarchary, or more recently asDetective Charlie Waldo in Last
Looks.
Meko is portrayed by RinkoKikuchi, whose other major roles
include Babel, norwegian Woodand Kumiko the treasure hunter.
So, phil, let's start with you.
More than any other universe wewere bringing to the table for
this tournament, you wereexcited for Pacific Rim, even
(12:08):
advocated for one of the kaijufrom the film to make it in as
well.
So tell us about what draws youto this franchise.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
You know it's crazy
because, like Pacific Rim, i
think, when, especially when itwas about to come out, you know
you're thinking like what isthis campy monster movie that
you know nobody really wanted togo see?
And I admit like I didn't seeit in theaters, i didn't see it
until it had come out on Blu-rayand DVD.
And then you know some peoplethat I really trust within, you
(12:36):
know kind of like my moviecircle, we're talking it up and
saying how like fantastic of aof an action film it was, but
also that it had a lot of heart, you know, for a movie.
That again is at its core, giant robots fighting giant
monsters, and sometimes that'sall you need.
Like I've been watching somecampy like action movies and
(12:59):
rom-coms on like Netflix andApple TV recently And it's like
a nice change of pace from theconnected universes right,
everything right now is aconnected universe, it's
building to the next thing.
Sometimes you just want to watcha fun movie And I saw a clip of
I believe it was Gypsy Dangeruse a ship as a bat.
(13:20):
I was like I got to watch thismovie.
And I watched it And it'sfantastic.
Again, it is, you just got to,sometimes you just got to turn
off your brain.
But also, the characters arevery likable, they're very
lovable And you know it's aseries I hold very near and dear
to my heart, which made thesequel hurt all the more because
(13:41):
of everything that happened, with it being in development
hell and production hell, andthen we got what we got.
So I don't consider the secondfilm canon, i just think that it
ends right here And I'm pretty, pretty happy with that,
although even though you knowthe evolved Gypsy Danger in the
second film, pretty cool.
But that movie didn't have theheart that the first one does,
and I mean Idris Elba gives a.
(14:03):
Now I remember his name, idrisElba.
His character gives a speechthat rivals the speech and
Independence Day.
Like it's fantastic And I thinkit should be talked about more.
You know again, sometimes youjust want to have a little fun
And I think this movie kind oflike embodies that when it comes
to action films.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Yeah, no, I think I'm
in the same boat as you.
I think it's a great film.
You know, i really do believethat.
I think that Del Toro getsacross a lot in the two hours,
you know, amidst amazing actionscenes.
You know that are legitimatelygreat, even compared to the
newer monster-verse movies.
You know like this movie cameout 10 years ago, 10 years ago
(14:43):
10 years ago And it still holdsup extremely well upon my
rewatch recently.
So, yeah, no, I totally on thelevel with you.
Dylan, let's turn it over toyou.
What's your experience with thefranchise and you know, the
original 2013 film.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
Oh yeah, i think I
did see this one in theaters.
It's hard to remember becauseit's 10 years ago, but like I
grew up on like big Kaiju movies, godzilla, all that kind of
stuff.
And so I saw the trailer forthis and was immediately like
bought in.
And I already knew that I likedGuillermo Del Toro movies Like
(15:21):
I can't remember exactly when hewas like doing Hellboy, if it
was before or after this verylike campy, but also like very
solid movie.
And so I saw this trailer and Iwas like I'm already bought in
because it's a bunch of robotsfighting giant monsters.
You know, like that was allthat I really needed.
And then, you know, like Phil, iwatched it and I was like, oh,
(15:45):
and it's actually like a goodmovie, like the characters are
really good, the.
You know it wasn't just like Iam okay with kind of the first
like hour and a half of a bigKaiju movie being kind of just
like filler story to get to thelike final 30 minutes of actual
(16:07):
monster fighting, and so forthis to not be that and to have
a lot more action than I wentinto it expecting was fantastic.
It also hurt me a little bitthat the sequel was not not very
good And I've made it throughlike one season of the anime
that's on Netflix.
Have it finished the secondseason, which I think is like
(16:30):
the final season, but the, fromwhat I remember, the first
season is pretty good.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Yeah, no, i'm glad
that we have two genuine fans,
because one thing that and Ikind of held this notion before
I rewatched it recently too isthat it's just it's a film that
kind of gets overlooked, and Ithink it's because, like it's a
monster film.
You know, you go there for themonsters and the human stories
(16:58):
don't really matter.
I think that's like the notionthat you get, and in this film,
you know, i think this getslopped in, you know, with like
the 2014 Godzilla movie for this, but like there's a genuinely
great performance from IdrisAlba in here.
Yeah, you know, raleigh Beckettisn't the most inspirational
protagonist.
I mean, he's kind of fits intothe same category as, like Jake
(17:23):
Sully from Avatar.
I kind of feel like he's likeon that level, but, yeah, like
him together with Mako and likethem like bridging, like because
I mean hearing Dottora talkabout it and like how the film
is about like coming together.
You know, i really feel like.
You know he got that across.
You know that.
And I think also, the one thingthat sticks out to me about
(17:46):
this film that I really likedAnd I noticed when I was
watching this time is that, likethis isn't, it's not a military
film.
You know, like.
It's not that there's nogenerals, there's no commanders,
there's no lieutenants.
I think Idris Alba Pentecost isa Marshal and the pilots are
(18:07):
Rangers.
You know, it gives this idea oflike they're fighting against
natural disasters, right, and Ireally like that about the film
too.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
Yeah, i looked up
Jingoistic because I wasn't
super familiar with that termcharacterized by extreme
patriotism, especially in theform of aggressive or warlike
foreign policy.
So, yeah, that's definitelywhat's at play here lack of that
, like you said, even though the, the, the Yagers, are tied to
(18:37):
specific countries, you stillget the idea that they're in
this together, like we all haveto fight this huge threat.
Is giant robots the best idea?
Maybe not, but you know what?
Speaker 1 (18:48):
Well, the wall?
definitely wasn't it, so weknow that.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
But I'm happy that
that they tried it out.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
But I think I like
what they did, though, with like
the setup of like realizingthat the Kaiju are basically the
same thing as the Yagers.
It's just a bigger version ofthe invaders, right, you know.
So I really liked that, likeone to one, you know comparison,
so like I thought that was coolhow they like tied it all
together.
Yeah, you know, maybe theycould have figured out something
(19:22):
, you know, a little less badass, but might not have been as
great of a cinema.
Yeah no, no, But let's.
Let's hone in on on GypsyDanger here for a second.
You know so, like all of, Ipersonally think all the mechs
have something about them.
That's really cool.
But what?
(19:43):
what elevates Gypsy Dangerabove the rest?
What makes it a greatprotagonist?
Mech?
Speaker 2 (19:48):
Yeah, i think with I
was.
I was watching a couple ofYouTube videos to prepare for
this And I saw that initially Ithink the the primary Mech that
was supposed to be kind of likethe hero was was Crimson Typhoon
.
But it but year, guillermo delToro thought it looked a little
too arrogant And I looked at itI was like yeah, it does.
(20:10):
I didn't think it was possiblefor a giant Mech to be arrogant,
but it definitely did come offlike that.
But I don't know somethingabout Gypsy Danger.
I mean, regardless of, you know, using the term Gypsy in 2013,.
Not great, but when we talkabout just the design in general
and also it being theintroduction, you know, when we,
(20:32):
when we first see those twocharacters, the two brothers,
and you know we kind of see itgo down, i think is a really
important part of its originstory.
You know, like you kind of likea relic of the past kind of
thing And also like a symbol.
I think as well for that, forthat Mech to kind of return to
this fight And you know, theBattle of Hong Kong and and be
in that leadership position, ithink is just really good
(20:55):
storytelling.
You know, and giving abackstory to a Mech is also
pretty wild, you know what Imean.
Like being able to pull thatoff was very, very impressive.
So I think, just somethingabout the design that really
resonates And, yeah, i think, really just again, making as as
much as you can, making a giantMech that looks like.
(21:17):
I don't know.
You said the John Wayne thing.
You know it was like yeah, that's that's so true.
Like how does that, how does aMech like strut like John Wayne
and like have the mannerisms ofJohn Wayne?
that's that, spot on.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Yeah, it has like an
appropriate swagger, though, you
know like, you know, it's notlike.
It's not like Crimson Typhoon.
You know, yeah, but Dylan, whatabout you?
Speaker 3 (21:40):
I 100% agree with
everything you guys said, so
I'll just add, you know the thewhip ass swords that that was
pretty cool to that makes itspecial.
But yeah, just the ability thatthey could convey that these
are like like give it thatpersonality, even though it's
sort of like an inanimate objector a like a, not a person.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
Yeah, a vehicle.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
I like thinking about
Mechs's vehicles.
That's weird.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
You use them to get
to point a point Kaiju back to
point B.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
You know yeah.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
Gypsy danger.
I think it's gonna be Strongcontender today, today's matchup
.
It'll be interesting to see ifour next opponent can get over
the top, and that is Sharah isValda.
So Sharah is Valda probably thelesser known name of the two
today is an elder dragon frommonster hunter world, more
specifically, from the 2019iceborn expansion, where it acts
(22:42):
as the final boss.
If you're unfamiliar withmonster hunter world, it's an
action RPG developed andpublished by Capcom, where you
and up to three of your bestbuds can adventure around Well
hunting monsters, sharah isValda being one of the most
formidable you can encounter, with the ability to manipulate
the earth offensively anddefensively with devastating
(23:04):
Effects.
As for the creation, it was hardto pin down a single name, but
we know iceborn was directed byDaisuke Ichihara, who also
directed monster huntergeneration ultimate.
Daisuke moved on from Capcomshortly after iceborn was
released and is now the directorof the Kyoto Development
Division for ILCA, known fortaking part in production for
games like Pokemon, brilliantDiamond and Shining Silver and
(23:28):
One Piece, odyssey.
So, dylan, we had lots ofconversations about a monster
hunter representative for thistournament.
You know we went back and forthwith a few different options,
but we ended on Sharah is Valda, and so I mean, because of our
conversations, you're alwaysdestined to be on this episode
(23:48):
today, so tell us about yourconnection to the series and why
you're a fan of it.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
I I didn't have the
opportunity to really play a
monster hunter game untilMonster Hunter World came out,
just because I didn't own Any ofthe the things that they were
on.
So, you know, like back in theday it was, it started on like
the original PlayStation orPlayStation 2 or something and
it was mostly, i think, lockedin in Japan And then they were
(24:17):
coming out on, you know, likeGame Boy Advance or Game Boy,
whatever the dual screen was.
What is that?
Speaker 2 (24:25):
is that DS just games
?
Speaker 3 (24:26):
Yeah, DS dual screen
Yeah okay, i was right, i was
like that doesn't sound rightbut So, yeah, they were.
They were kind of locked onconsoles like that which I
didn't have, and so MonsterHunter World was the first one
that I got a chance to actuallylike see, and it, you know,
scratched a lot of the itchesthat I was looking for.
(24:47):
I Am a big from software fan,so I enjoy kind of the sort of
big over-the-top skill basedboss battles.
I'm a fan of Kaiju and monstersand so it's like this game is
basically Boss battles, the gameand you're fighting Kaiju and
that's like the game.
(25:07):
And so I was like excellent, this is got me written all over
it.
Um, got that game.
It was probably the like theyear it came out.
It was probably one of the onlygames I played that year.
I was just doing it non-stop,first because I loved it, but
then also because there's just aton of content in it, and so
(25:28):
it's Probably one of my mostplayed games on Xbox, if not
probably not the most anymorethings to destiny to, but still
very high up there.
And I just enjoy sort of thatExperience of like, okay, you
load in, you kind of areexploring, you spot this new
(25:51):
monster, it plays you a littlecutscene or whatever, and then
you've got to like figure out, like, well, what's?
Yeah, obviously you can look itup because we have the internet
, but it's like okay, what'sthis monster week to?
what's this monster Like?
what are its moves?
you know what?
What do I need to look out for?
what do I need to like whereare my openings?
How can I go in and like huntthis monster?
(26:13):
and then you finally beat itand you get to Like go back to
town and find out all the coolarmor and weapons you can make
with its body parts.
Speaker 1 (26:23):
Now, yeah, I just
want to check in quick, phil, do
you have any familiarity withthis series at all?
Because I'm also coming from astandpoint of I've never played
one of these games.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
So yeah, just a
little bit.
Just like I mentioned just whenthe demo for world came out, i
played it very briefly with a,with a buddy, and we didn't
really get into it, but it'salways been something like Man
that looks like.
I think with a right group ofpeople it'd be.
It seems like a reallyrewarding experience.
Speaker 1 (26:51):
That's kind of what I
always thought too like from an
outsider looking in, like itdefinitely seems like you know,
finding finding a good group.
But I also think that you knowthe it always felt kind of
grindy from the outside.
It kind of had this MMO feelfrom the outside.
That's how I kind of alwaysscared me away from it a little
bit.
But like, if there were everone of those types of games to
(27:13):
jump into, just the, the enemytypes and the look like Monster
Hunter world like definitelyseems like it would fit the bill
.
But, like I said, since I'm notsuper familiar with the series,
you know, when I was surveyingthe field of monsters to select
from, charge Valda stuck out tome for two reasons the design
and the powers.
It's a dope design, both reallyunique and interesting.
(27:36):
I love the idea of thisEarth-bending dragon but also,
like The design is sort of thisstrange blend of kind of human
features and, you know, plantelements incorporated into the
look of the Monster as well.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
And so so, dylan,
speaking specifically to our
combatant today, you know whatmakes it, what makes it special
to you so One of the biggestthings that makes it special is
just it was the culmination of,like, the Monster Hunter world
and ice-borne experience, and so, like, you hunted all the way
through world, which I Forgetthe exact number of Monsters and
(28:16):
stuff that you were hunting bythis point, but, like, by the
time you get to Sharra is Valda, you've probably hunted like a
hundred different monsters ormore, and So it's kind of like
you've been through thisgauntlet of ever-increasing
difficulty, of monsters, andthat's kind of like the capstone
at the very, very end of thegame.
You've Ruled credits at thepoint you fight this, like 20
(28:40):
hours ago.
This is like the bonus secretboss, basically, and so It was
just a really cool Like feelingto finally get to like the
penultimate, like or theultimate boss of those games.
But then also like it wassomething that they wove into
(29:03):
the story all throughout of likeyou're hearing this like song
that they call it, and everytime you're hearing this song,
like weird stuff is happeningand You're trying to like track
down the source of this and youthink that like it was you know
The Valkana, that was the youknow boss that got you the end
credits, and then it's stillgoing on and so you're still
(29:27):
trying to figure out what'sgoing on.
And then you get to the fightand it's a really cool fight and
The boss design is fantasticAnd it's a multi-phase like
arena fight, like you're notfighting it on, like one of the
regular maps that you've beenhunting all these other monsters
on.
It's like got its ownspecialized arena, where you
(29:49):
fight it at first in this biglike mountainous rocky area And
it's all covered in rocks, andthen you like because at that
point you still know what it'sgonna like you think That's what
it looks like, and then You youfight Through it and you think,
oh, okay, maybe I've beaten it.
(30:10):
And then it goes to phase twoand that's when you see the
really cool design of like thissort of like Human and plants
and lizard kind of Elements thatare all kind of incorporated
into it.
And that's when it starts usinga lot more of.
It's like earth bending powersand like Making the ground
(30:32):
quicksand and shooting rocks andsonic blasts at you and
everything.
So it's really cool.
I had a lot of fun with it andonce you kill it you make some
pretty cool armor and weaponsout of it, so that that always
helps.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
It's always a nice, a
nice touch.
Yeah, i mean I'm like I'm sohappy this season that we get to
bring in these video gamebosses.
Like I was so excited for sinlast week and I'm super excited
for Shara ish follow this weekand sharp like it kind of has
like the same Vibe is sin like Ididn't realize like how, like
being an elder dragon part ofthis universe, like how
(31:07):
influential it was on itssurroundings, you know it's sort
of also this force of nature.
You know I didn't realize likehow much of like everything
that's happening was leading upto this one confrontation with
this dragon and I mean dragon, ifeel like is used pretty
loosely.
I mean like yes.
(31:28):
It doesn't fly.
Its wings are more Hand-likeyou know, like I mean That yeah
it's a spooky creature, you know, like, like, just like looking
at it, and and then I don't wantto talk about it yet.
But there's one factor herethat I think is gonna be really
interesting as far as this fightgoes.
(31:49):
That Happens during the courseof this boss fight, as far as
you know one really specialability that Shara ish Valdah
has.
So I'm excited to talk aboutthat.
I'm excited, excited to getinto this fight.
So shall we get to it?
boys?
Let's do it.
Yes, just as a reminder, thisis a fight to incapacitation,
whether it be death, trapping, unconscious this, or force will,
(32:10):
battlefield removal.
It's important to know that wetake these characters as they
are Morals, ethics andeverything included.
And it's also important to notethat we have our random
location generator, so we havenew locations that we're picking
just for season five, in caseyou have, you miss the last
episode.
So we have locations you know, big locations.
Essentially, you know that weare picking just for season five
(32:32):
, so we don't waste any of ourNormal locations that might be
like an apartment building orsomething you know.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
On a quinge.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
Yet no, No this is
not not a helicarrier, although
I wonder if I could get awaywith that with the guy.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
Oh, well, i mean, if
you've seen Godzilla vs Kong,
they just adjust sizesaccordingly.
So I don't see why you can't dothat.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
That's a good point.
That's a good point, but let'sroll the dice and see where we
are headed today.
Have either of you guys been toNew York City?
Speaker 2 (33:28):
Unfortunately, yeah.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
You are headed back
there today because that is the
location of our fight.
We are headed to the big Appleat which I mean was an
incredible, incrediblecoincidence You just talked
about, you know, gypsy dangerbeing modeled after several New
York buildings.
But, yeah, that's right, we'reheaded to New York.
This, i mean one of our has tobe the most well-known possible
(33:55):
location that we can pick fromall season long.
So you know, i don't think weneed to go.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
You could not destroy
New York City this season.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
Yeah, like it had to
be San.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
Francisco in the in
the pool for this year, i think.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
I think we got San
Francisco.
San Francisco, new York, ithink, chicago.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
LA is in there.
I mean yeah.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
Tokyo.
I will say is off the list.
That's, that's finale territory.
right there We're reservingthere.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
Yeah, okay.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
Little sneak preview
for you there, but But so yeah,
today we're keeping it AmericanAnd before we get into the fight
, there's kind of want to goover the size and weight of
these characters that we'redealing with today.
Gypsy danger standing at 79meters, just over 7,000 tons.
Shah is fall to 60 meters 4,000tons.
(34:50):
And now I, you know if you guysare good with it.
I like this battle startingeach of our fighters on each
side of Central Park.
You know long ways like Gypsydanger starts lumbering out of
the Atlantic Ocean, towering youknow walking past the.
Statue of Liberty, drudging downthe streets of New York towards
(35:12):
Central Park, slowly Preveyingthe field, looking for his
opponent.
And then Shah as Valder, risesup out of the earth of Central
Park, slowly showing itselfcompletely clad in thick rocks
and rubble.
And so, as these two fighters,i, each other up, how does this
(35:33):
fight break off?
Speaker 2 (35:33):
This is the best
season ever.
Um, i So cool.
I, i guess I have a questionabout a shower.
Like is shard naturally goingto Try and flee from a fight,
right, Did I read that or am Imaking that up?
like, as far as you know, obviously you're entering final
boss territory in the game, soyou know, you know that you have
(35:56):
to fight.
Yeah, like is its initialinstinct to kind of try, and
because it has that, you knowthat armored form Seems like
it's a form in which it's goingto try and just protect itself
and then get out of there.
Speaker 3 (36:06):
Yeah, so for the most
part in the game, in the times
that you would occasionallyEncounter something, you didn't
really know what it was like, itwas pretty Squirrely trying to
get away like not Not intendingto engage your fight.
but there comes a certain pointin the game where it's like You
(36:26):
are a threat, i am going tofight you and that's what.
I assume This would be justbecause it's probably better for
the bright The show if it'slike no, like it recognizes
there it goes.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
Yeah, The narrator
pulls it out of the ground just
for it to say no thanks.
Speaker 2 (36:48):
No, that's enough of
that.
Do we also assume that sorrythat Beckett and and Mako have
there?
Is it just the two of them?
or do we assume that they have, like you know, somebody at
headquarters, you know givingthem information, or we're gonna
assume it's just of them.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
They do have, like,
an AI, which I I point out only
because I recognize the voice.
The AI is GLaDOS from portalYep, i don't know.
I, yes, so I caught that.
I'm so proud of myself.
So they do have an AI to likeassist them in that way.
So there is that aspect of it.
(37:24):
But yeah, no, no, no, i justelbow, motivating, pushing them
forward.
I know I know what you want.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
Yeah, Call it right
now.
But yeah, I think definitely, you know, just with the
intelligence of these two pilots, Certainly analyzing what the
strengths and weaknesses are ofShar.
The thing with Shar is like, asfar as height and weight it
(37:55):
falls weirdly in between a bunchof different kaiju, Like it's
not as tall as some of them, butit's heavier than the taller
ones.
You know what I mean.
So it's a very different typeof challenge that they're
getting into here.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
Like, as I was
looking at it, i was trying to,
because in Pacific Rim they'vegot like the different
categories or is it of the kaiju, and so I was trying to figure
out like what category wouldShar F is all to fall into?
Like, would it be three, Like Idon't think it's quite big
enough, and to be maybe likefour or five necessarily, But
(38:33):
we'll see, because it's the sameheight as a category four,
which is otachi as the otachikaiju.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
So it's the same
height, but it's much heavier
than otachi.
So 4,000 tons and then otachiis only 2,700.
So that's why it's like sostrange, like the measurements
of this thing are so differentfrom from what they faced before
.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
And is this 4,000
tons with all the rock armor or
with?
Yeah, this is assuming it'sinitial appearance.
Speaker 1 (39:04):
So assuming that it's
currently covered in rock,
which I imagine makes up a goodamount of that tonnage Yeah, I
was going to say it may actuallybe closer to otachi than
without all the rock armor inweight.
Speaker 2 (39:18):
So, so maybe category
four ish at that point Yeah,
because it's not as big astrespasser as far as height Got
92 meters, jesus Massive.
So yeah, i think, like I said, just trying to figure.
And again, once it breaks awayfrom that outer armor, then
(39:41):
you're like then they have toagain once completely change
there, yeah, their strategy.
Speaker 1 (39:47):
Yeah, and I think
it's interesting, like within
the armored phase, right, youknow, because it's a boss, it
has two phases.
You know what's the offensiveoutput like when it has the
armor on?
Is this just, is the first partof this fight just going to be
gypsy danger, Breaking apartthese rocks without any
resistance?
(40:08):
or, you know, the Shara have acounter offensive at this point
in the fight?
because when I was watching theboss battles it seemed like a
lot of the attacks from Sharacame in the second half.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
Yeah.
so it definitely gets way moreaggressive in Phase Two of the
boss fight.
It is still attacking in PhaseOne, but it's much, much slower,
much, much like like you have alot of lead up to like, oh OK,
it's about to make an attackhere And that said, you know, if
(40:42):
it hits you in Phase One does aton of damage because it's got
a ton of mass behind it everyattack.
But it is much more defensive.
It is much more or I guess, much less aggressive in Phase
One.
So while it's got all of therocks on it, it probably would
(41:03):
be a lot of like gypsy dangerbeing on the offensive.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
Because I think kind
of what you were referencing,
phil, and what I also found onmy research is that Charizvalda
being this, i mean it's notnecessarily an apex predator,
right?
You know, like it feeds off theearth, like it plants itself
somewhere, digs into the groundand feeds off the life force of
the earth, like that's how itsustains itself.
(41:28):
Right, so like it doesn'treally want to be bothered, but
once it does it shields up andmost things can't break through
that shield in its universe.
You know, like it takes like anend of game level monster hunter
plus, you know, usually a teamright To break through that.
(41:49):
But I don't think it's ever hadgypsy danger, You know, you
know, like other mods.
Speaker 2 (41:56):
Yeah, you know, like
the foot gypsy danger in the
game, Just like.
Speaker 1 (42:01):
I mean like I'm
thinking just like hand over
hand, just like ripping chunksof rock over off of Charizvalda
here.
I mean maybe you know they canwear gypsy danger out a little
bit, you know, early in thisfight, you know if it lands some
of those heavy hits.
Yeah, you know, maybe Char canget some like good hits and
because, like, with that extraweight, like you know,
(42:24):
physically hitting Gypsy Dangeris going to do more damage, but
I mean, really, i feel like, ifeel like Charizvalda's best bet
here is with its magic, youknow, like once it gets into the
vibrations, once it gets intowhat it can do with the earth.
So because of a gypsy, danger isa tough son of a bitch, right?
You know like it could take alot of damage and keep going.
(42:48):
You know like at at the bottomof the ocean.
You know like it can perseverea lot.
Speaker 3 (42:53):
Yeah, i think to me
the biggest thing is just how
much of like gypsy dangersarsenal is wasted.
Getting the armor off ofCharizvalda.
Like is it just trying to ripstuff off with its hands?
Is it using its plasma gun, which has, like, limited ammo?
Is it using the sword at all?
(43:15):
Is it you know what are theydoing with it, And is that
expending resources, basically?
Speaker 2 (43:23):
Yeah, because we see
them do that in Hong Kong you
know, so And and not knowingabout, you're getting to that
second level as well.
You think they'd probably tryand take care of it pretty
quickly too.
But again, the one thing is,you know gypsy danger It's not
an AI.
You know there are two humanpilots That are that are fake.
(43:44):
They're figuring this outtogether, which, again on a much
smaller level, you know monsterhunters are also are doing this
without giant mechs.
You know, and I don't want todiscredit, like you said, this
is very, very much endgame.
So it's not like it's a brandnew monster hunter going at this
thing, you know, but youdefinitely have taken the
(44:05):
intelligence for as far as thetwo pilots for sure, does Shah
as fault as far as You know, using, using its, its resources
around it as far as the earth.
Is that like also heal it too, like if it were to?
because, because I'm thinking, you know New York City concrete
jungle, it starts off in inCentral Park, but when we go
(44:27):
elsewhere, is it also able touse some of those abilities
where that you see in, you know, the final fight in the game.
Speaker 3 (44:33):
Yeah, my Impression
is, yes, that it could
definitely use those, regardlessof where it was, because it's
all like sonic base and, okay,it functions with the ground and
so like, since, like it wouldbe a bit different than like the
big sandy and rocky arena thatyou fight in, but As far as like
(44:55):
, does it heal back up oranything Not in the game?
So I'm gonna say probably not.
I would imagine that would besomething that takes longer for
it to do, like outside of combat.
Speaker 1 (45:06):
So That's super.
Speaker 3 (45:09):
I really wanted
Shah's ball to cover it in New
York concrete, like yeah, well,i think, i think it would
definitely Bring on like itdoesn't ever go back to the the
rock covering of phase one.
But you're it during phase oneI it's been a bit since I fought
it, but I think there are timeswhere it like kind of re-ups
(45:30):
its armor a little bit.
But so I think your dream oflike Having some street signs
and some you know rubble fromthe I love your state building.
Yeah, like yes, exactly, there'skind of the comedy shot like
Exactly so I I think there wouldbe some of that, but it's not
(45:53):
doing it quickly enough.
I don't think for it to.
It's not like, once it's brokenoff, it's like, oh, you left it
alone for 30 seconds and nowit's all covered back up in
rocks again.
You know.
Speaker 1 (46:05):
The first phase of
the fight, at least how I'm
imagining it, is Gypsy dangertrying to do as much damage.
I don't think there's anyquestion of If it gets through
the rock shielding.
I think it almost certainlydoes.
It's just a matter of usindividually.
Do we think that it does?
how much energy ammo does itexpand?
(46:25):
resources yeah exactly to get tothat point.
So I think that that's Myquestion in my brain.
But moving on to sort of thesecond phase of this fight, so I
want to talk about Char's ValdaHaving broken free from its
rock encasement, so it's muchmore exposed but it's a lot
(46:46):
deadlier.
You know this is where you seea lot of the earth powers here.
So you know, dylan, i'll throwit to you in the second phase of
this fight.
You know what are some of thepowers you see coming into play
against gypsy.
Speaker 3 (46:56):
Yeah, Yeah, so it's.
It's definitely a lot faster.
So, you know, if at first Gypsydanger was able to like more
easily dodge things like Char'sValda in this form is way
quicker, i think, becausethere's That's one of the things
I love about Pacific Rim is itconveys a very good amount of
(47:18):
weightiness to like the monstersand the mechs, and I think
Char's Valda is way faster thana lot of that stuff in in the
movie.
When it's in phase two is alsothat's when it starts heavily
using kind of its It's sonicpowers.
Essentially, what it does is itlike I forget what the the, the
(47:41):
term for it is sublimation orsomething maybe where it's it
basically turns The ground likewith a combination of like
vibrations and air.
It eventually it essentiallytakes on like a liquid form and
so, like It creates like thesebig pits of like quicksand and
(48:02):
stuff, and that's how it movesthrough the earth as it
essentially turns it into like aLiquid and then swims through
it.
And so I think That would beparticularly devastating in like
a New York setting where yournot only are you able to, you
know, create pits of, you knowlike basically destroy the, the
(48:24):
ground under Gypsy Danger andhave it start sinking into the
earth.
But you've got, you're messingup the, the foundations of these
buildings, potentiallycollapsing them onto the, the
battleground or the combatantsthemselves.
It's also got this massive likeair Sonic boom ball that it
(48:50):
throws into the middle of thearena.
That explodes and Basically isa one-shot, one kill situation.
If you get hit by it in as asjust a random Monster hunting
dude running around in armor.
I don't think it would have thesame effect on a giant, but But
(49:14):
I'm not.
I was trying to look up beforethis started, like how effective
like Sonic weapons would beagainst like a tank or Something
like that, i guess.
For me I kind of see theweakness of Gypsy Danger if it
has one, being the two humansinside of it, like if you can
harm them, then you basicallytake it out.
(49:35):
Right so I'm like if the SonicWeapons were, are effective,
like cool, if it just is like, well, this is metal, then I
think it's much more heavilyhaving to rely on like trying to
trap it in like a quicksandarea and, you know, lock it into
(49:55):
the earth a little bit.
Speaker 2 (49:56):
Yeah, that's the
thing with Gypsy Danger, right,
it's so obviously it'scompletely dependent on the
pilot.
So you take out one, then It'sbasically a game over, you know.
So That's a really goodquestion is like does the, does
the supersonic blast?
like, how does that affect?
because they reinforced GypsyDanger.
Like I think if this were theoriginal, gypsy Danger Probably
(50:18):
goes down pretty not quickly, but doesn't really stand too
much of a chance against thesecond form.
But they had reinforced andrebuilt this thing because they
knew it got the shit kicked outof it in Alaska.
Yeah, let's, let's make this alittle better.
I mean going into the right, going like down into the void,
(50:40):
like that's an impressive, ithink, as far as kind of Design
and speed, like slattern, whichis the the category five Kaiju,
i definitely don't think that aCharisvald is as heavy.
I mean, this is just anestimated weight Which is 6700
tons but as far as likequickness, maybe that's a good
comp is is slattern, which is,which would be the a good
(51:05):
comparable design and andcreature to Charisvald us.
So yeah, those are.
Those are good questions likehow does all that affect, you
know, the, the outer core ofGypsy Danger?
Speaker 1 (51:17):
one thing that I know
that we have to talk about.
I referenced it earlier.
We have to talk about the thirdeye.
We have to talk aboutCharisvald's ability, which is,
i mean it, really interestingand it has a no tangible
gameplay effect, but I thinkthere's an interesting
(51:42):
implication it has on this fight.
So, dylan, do you want toexplain what Char does?
and you know how creepy it is.
So, yeah, so.
Speaker 3 (51:50):
Charisvald is blind
for all intents and purposes,
basically because it livesunderground, swimming through
rocks and stuff so like it's, itreally can't see and so but
it's still able to pinpoint thehunter and Attack it, and so
it's got this like third eyesense essentially of like okay,
(52:14):
i can See you.
But then there's also sort ofthis implication that In a very
meta sense it can kind of seethe player, which is a very kind
of just like weird, like fourthwall breaking almost, but also
very cool ability that the thatit has of like I am now fighting
(52:37):
you, specifically the player, not necessarily Your little
character on the screen youcould see during the battle,
like Char's ball is, like eyesopen up, like during the battle
and you can see the eyes aretracking the camera.
Speaker 1 (52:51):
So like, as opposed
to your, character on screen.
Speaker 3 (52:55):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1 (52:56):
It's feel.
It feels like Metal Gear Solid, like Kojima kind of yeah, yeah,
Like you've got a plug in asecond controller and use that
one to be exactly yeah situationYeah it feels very close to
that and so like it's trackingyou, the player in your camera
and so The implication that Iwant to talk about is Does it
(53:16):
know exactly where the pilotsare in?
Gypsy danger can, can it usethis ability to know Exactly the
weak point that has to attack, just like the kaiju Evolved and
eventually new.
You know to attack the head.
You know that's why they weresuccessful towards You know the
(53:37):
latter half of this war.
You know Mm-hmm Ken Char's fallto see them and also can he
take advantage of it?
Speaker 3 (53:45):
I, i would think so,
and Even without the third eye,
like a bit like sort of metaability, i would think, probably
because I think earth bendingis a very good like example of
What it can do as well, and so,like Toph Could use sort of the
vibrations to like see peopleand pinpoint people and so, even
(54:09):
without the third eye ability,i think Char, as Falda would
know, kind of the structuralmakeup probably, like I mean
it's it's still, at its core, ananimal.
So whether it can act on thatinformation or not I think is
questionable, but It isintelligent, it is.
You know, one of the elderdragons of that are borderline
(54:33):
gods in in the, the MonsterHunter universe, and so, like I
think it would know that thereare, there are other creatures
inside the head of gypsy danger.
Now, whether it knows to doanything with that or you know,
i Don't know.
But especially with the metaability, i think yes, like it is
(54:54):
just focused on, like there Icite the entire time like Trying
to probably attack them.
Speaker 1 (55:02):
I definitely think so
.
As soon as I realized like thismatch it was happening and I
knew that I found that out aboutSharra I felt like because I
mean, what are you doing as aplayer if you're not piloting
your monster?
Speaker 3 (55:13):
Yeah, right, you know
yeah.
Speaker 1 (55:16):
You know.
So, like I feel like it's ait's a one-to-one comparison
there.
So I guess, like the, thequestion might just be if it
concentrates its vibrationblasts on The head of gypsy
danger and gypsy danger can'tavoid them because it's slower
at this point in the battle, youknow, does that do enough
damage to?
I mean, really, you just haveto incapacitate one of them and
(55:39):
Maybe, maybe it can go a littlelonger after that.
You know, we've seen Beckett doit before, but it's not
sustainable, right?
Speaker 2 (55:47):
Yeah, how would you
categorize the plasma cannon,
dylan?
because I am looking at theelement and you know the
effectiveness of the element onSharshvalda and you know it says
blast has, you know, prettygood effectiveness, but then
thunder is Zero effectiveness.
So, like, how would youcategorize the plasma cannon?
Speaker 3 (56:07):
Plasma, i mean plasma
is definitely, like I would say
, much more akin to like eitherthe fire or the blast than it
would be.
And the blast is particularlyoffense or effective against.
Like the first phase.
It falls off a little bit whenit's no longer covered in stone,
but I think it's.
(56:27):
It's definitely likesuperheated, like plasma, i
think fits better.
Yeah, like fire or blast, andthen it would thunder.
Speaker 2 (56:35):
Yeah, and then you
know, you look at ice being very
effective as well, and we'veseen gypsy danger use the ice
ability against.
I can't remember which kaiju itwas, but we saw that be very
effective.
Yeah, i think it was.
Might have been otachi theotachi one because it had the,
or no, it was the one that flew, that brought it up into space.
Yeah, it was the one that.
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (56:54):
Yeah, you use the
same appendage to rip Crimson
typhoons head off and that wasthe one that it froze, because
it had them attached by theAbdomen, and then it had the
release.
You know, yeah, the coolantcame out of it.
It didn't seem.
It didn't seem like it wasnecessarily a weapon, but like
as like a defense mechanism.
Yeah, defense mechanism which Ithink would be interesting And
(57:18):
to see if that could come up inthis fight.
But yeah, That'd be interesting.
Speaker 2 (57:22):
Yeah, because it does
.
I mean, obviously, when we'retalking about an opponent of the
size in gypsy danger, doessharish fall to find itself in
close quarters With with it?
you know when you're?
obviously, when you're playingthe game, you have to get close
to it.
Speaker 3 (57:35):
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (57:37):
But you know, does it
, does it put itself in that
position to even, you know to tobe, to be affected by that
defense Mechanism?
you know, like this gypsydanger find itself where sharish
fall to is like grabbing ontoit, and then it can then use
that.
You know that ability Yeah.
Speaker 3 (57:55):
I mean, i would still
think it's probably pretty
close range.
Even if it's not maybe in melee, like it's it's sonic blasts,
don't have like a ridiculousrange.
You know, like it's it's afairly large arena, but it's not
like huge It's.
You know, like I'm trying tothink of how large Central Park
(58:16):
is, but like the arena isprobably smaller than Central
Park that you fight SharIshvalda in and so I figure that
because, like, the monsterhunter is so so tiny Figure what
that looks like because that's,i think, honestly like what
Shar Ishvalda is like.
Main issue is here is like itgot beat by a dude With a big
(58:41):
sword.
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (58:42):
I wasn't gonna be
disrespectful and say it, so I'm
glad you said it.
Speaker 3 (58:45):
Yeah, i mean like now
grad said like you can, you can
make some excuses there of likewell, you know, in the, in the,
it's like your hunter isspecial or your team of hunters
is special in the game, and youknow it's not just any hunter
that would be able to do thatand like, if it was actually
like Not for you, they wouldhave had to throw a lot more
(59:06):
resources, a lot more men andwomen at it And potentially lose
a lot like, have a lot ofcasualties.
But at the end of the day, ifought it 1v1 and 1 and and I
was a regular sized dude And andso we're talking about a 79
foot tall or meter tall robotwith giant swords and guns,
(59:29):
which I think presents a bitmore of a challenge for Shar
Ishvalda.
Speaker 1 (59:36):
So how we decide the
winners here on super bracket
bros is each of us is gonna givean out of 10 on who we think
will Win this fight.
The out of 10 is just torepresent our confidence in a
given fighter, but whoeverreceives 2 out of 3 or 3 out of
3 of our total votes is gonna bethe fighter that moves on in
the tournament.
So, dylan, you're a guest.
(59:57):
Why don't you kick things offtoday?
Speaker 3 (59:59):
Sure, like I said, i
think Shar Ishvalda is a very
cool monster.
I think it definitely puts up agood fight and I could even see
it, you know, being able to getthe edge on Gypsy danger
somewhat, you know, especiallyusing its ability to maybe
(01:00:20):
pinpoint and Target the, thepilots of Gypsy danger.
That said, at the same time, ithink I'm gonna have to give it
to Gypsy danger 8 out of 10times, just because I think Shar
Ishvalda would have a toughtime getting through the armor
and actually Harming the pilotsto the point where it is able to
(01:00:43):
win.
I do think it could maybe lockit up in in some quicksand or,
you know, bring a building downon it or something to the point
of incapacitating it.
But I do think that that isgonna be much more challenging
for it to do.
And, like I said, thetechnology level of monster
hunter is kind of like sort offantasy swords and You have guns
(01:01:09):
, but like Barely guns you know, like steampunky guns, not
really like Modern weaponry, andso I think Gypsy danger,
essentially being a giant hunterwith modern weaponry, edges out
.
Shar Ishvalda 8 out of 10 times.
Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
Phil, yeah, actually
I, i also went with Gypsy danger
, but I gave Shar Ishvalda anextra win.
I went 7 out of 3 or 7 out of10, just because, again, we've
seen Gypsy danger struggle witheven some lower level kaiju.
So I think, just the justhaving a lot, of, a lot of
respect for the defensiveability, like maybe it does wear
it down, maybe they doaccidentally use too much of
(01:01:52):
their ammunition too soon, but, like you said, dylan, just as
far as, like you know, you'reable to take it down with with
one hunter, you know, combiningtwo very intelligent pilots and
the Neuro link, i think thatthat definitely plays into their
fate, their favor, and I justlike the idea of him, of Gypsy
danger chucking the Chryslerbuilding like right at its face.
(01:02:16):
That would be awesome.
So, yeah, i'm like I gave aSharishvalda an extra, extra win
, but I still go.
Gypsy danger 7 out of 10.
Speaker 1 (01:02:23):
I'm in the same line,
line of thinking as you guys.
I'm going Gypsy danger 7 out of10 times.
I think Shar has some reallyunique abilities that I think
that it could use to take downGypsy danger.
It's just a matter of, if itdoes, and I think the I think at
the end of the day, sharishvalda is going to be
relying just I mean, like avideo game boss, right, like
(01:02:47):
it's going to be relying onGypsy danger to make a mistake
or two, and I think, even if it,even if it does, you know, i
think it still stands a chance, like it can recover from that
and come back and fight.
But yeah, i think that the youknow, if Gypsy danger just had
the sword or it just had the iceor it just had the plasma, i
(01:03:10):
give it to Sharishvalda.
But it has so many differentways.
Whereas Sharishvalda, you knowlike physically It could do
damage when it's at its heaviest, but then it's less nimble and
Gypsy danger can get around it.
And then when it's lighter, youknow it can move around and it
can attack, but it might nothave the weight to actually
penetrate the armor anymore.
(01:03:30):
You know, like it's just, sharishvalda feels like an upset
pick to me like it feels likeit could do it, but it yeah.
It's definitely seven out often, eight out of ten territory
for Gypsy danger.
But yeah, with that, with threeout of our total votes, that is
Gypsy danger.
Moving on to the next round, where our pair of pilots are
going to be facing The winner oflast week's matchup, where we
(01:03:53):
talked sin versus vagar.
So if you haven't caught thatone yet, make sure to head back
and listen so you know who Gypsydanger is going up against next
.
But I want to check in with youguys.
Did did today go about how youexpected it?
Speaker 2 (01:04:05):
to.
I'll say I got a little.
I got more nervous as the daywent on as I Was researching
this character and then, when, i, would you know, watched its
abilities, i was like, oh, thisis, this is a cool character.
I was like, am I gonna get?
am I gonna get polar bear itagain, whoever, whatever the
name of that character was back.
I'll never let that go.
Speaker 1 (01:04:24):
It's, it's your.
I don't know why it could be sohard for a member.
That's what I said.
Speaker 2 (01:04:37):
So no, again I was.
But I did get more and moreconfident again, just kind of
researching Gypsy danger and inlooking at its history.
And Yeah, like I mean I toldyou this when the bra we know,
when the bracket came out, i wasvery surprised with Gypsy
dangers seating, so very happywith it and But yeah, it
(01:04:57):
definitely was like I knew thiswasn't gonna be like a walk in
the park situation.
Speaker 3 (01:05:01):
The more I looked
into the Into the opponent
pretty much went how I wasexpecting it to go.
Like, even just looking at thelike, we've got some really
heavy hitters in this, thislineup for this season.
Like, as I was going throughlike rating things, i was like
you know, like Charis Fault, icould probably beat like Bowser
(01:05:23):
or you know.
Some of the other you know morevideo game characters or like
maybe some of the like smalleror like weaker I was like it
could probably put up a goodfight to Even even Galeon.
Yeah, like I was like it canprobably like put up a decent,
like it could outlast one ofthose and so.
(01:05:46):
But like, looking at a lot ofthe you know The things from an
actual Kaiju centric Franchise,i'm like it's gonna struggle
against those, not only justbecause I it is on the smaller
end of of a lot of those, but Ithink also just by the fact that
(01:06:07):
a Guy with a big sword and noshirt was able to you know take
it down.
Speaker 1 (01:06:16):
Thank you guys so
much for coming on today's
episode.
I really appreciate you helpingme break this one down.
It was a ton of fun, a lot ofgreat moments.
I think you know to take awayfrom this fight, but I want to
give our audience a chance toFind out where to find you out
on the interwebs.
So I'll let my co-hosts gofirst.
(01:06:37):

about stepping in, even though I
got off to a terrible start.
Just so you know, jay, i don'tgo on any family vacations Cuz
I've been shunned, so if youever do need someone to step in,
just let me know.

to this before, where the waitfor a podcast.

appreciate the time Dylan tell
everybody about your friendlyneighborhood gamers.
Speaker 3 (01:08:07):
Yeah, so it's a
mostly a podcast that Andrew and
I do on a weekly basis.
The sort of concept behind itis like we want to talk about
video games But we're not likenecessarily worried about
playing all the big stuff rightwhen it comes out and being the
most current, because we areTrying to cater more towards,
(01:08:30):
like your average game player.
You know someone who's Maybekind of keeping up with some of
the industry stuff, maybe kindof keeping up with, like, what
big games are on the horizon, but also picks up a game that's
seven years old on sale, youknow, and and wants to talk
about it then, and so That's alot of what we do.
We have guests from you know, other podcasts, other sort of
(01:08:52):
Gaming and that sort of popculture area related like areas
on the podcast.
Occasionally We'll do, you know, deeper dives.
We just did one.
That was, you know, like, hey,we we did a game of the year
lists in 2019, but we alsohadn't really played a lot of
the games from 29.
You know, like we've since goneback and actually played some
(01:09:13):
huge games from 2019 that wehadn't had a chance to yet, and
so we redid that whole list andso that was a lot of fun.
We've had both Jay and Phil onand so if you're fans of either
of them their episodes you canhop on and find That they are on
there, as as our guests.
We also have a YouTube channelthat you can check out, where we
(01:09:34):
post, like shorter form contentgenerally, and we had Eric and
Jay both on that episode or oneof those episodes to do like a
fantasy critic draft.
So if your fans of either SuperBracket Bros or wait for it,
we've got content for you tocheck out.
Speaker 1 (01:09:54):
Yeah, no, i.
You know this is core superbracket bro cinematic universe
gathering right here between thethree of us.
So if you're a fan of this show, you will be a fan of their
shows And I highly recommend youchecking out both of these
creators.
Between Phil and Eric, you knowyou've got the convention scene
going on down in Florida, whichI think is just amazing Dylan
(01:10:15):
and Andrew making just awesomeYouTube content.
You know, i think genuinely Ilove everything that the both of
you do, so Always appreciateyou taking the time and bringing
your expertise to today'sepisode, helping continue season
5 and making it as awesome asgenuinely possible.
(01:10:35):
So thank you, guys.
Season rules.
Speaker 3 (01:10:39):
As soon as you told
me the concept of this.
I was like I can't wait, like Idon't even care if I'm on it, i
just can't wait to listen to it.
Speaker 1 (01:10:47):

the patreon, where mean Eliwent back and listened to a
(01:11:50):
bunch of old clips that ended upon the cutting room floor of
Super Bracket Bros past.
So, for whatever reason, ididn't include it in the episode
, but I thought it was worthsaving, and I got to rediscover
why I thought it was worthsaving, as mean Eli re listened
to it live and discovered thaton air, so that was a fantastic
(01:12:11):
episode.

No, just whenever you
are thrust into a co-host
Opportunity, don't forget thereference you were going to
bring up in the beginning.
So just learn from my mistakes.
Speaker 1 (01:12:48):
I'm really glad
you're digging yourself in a
hole, so I can't edit that out.
So I Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:13:30):
You.
