Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello and good day.
Welcome to the Super GoodCamping podcast.
My name is Pamela.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
I'm Tim.
Speaker 1 (00:04):
And we are from
supergoodcampingcom.
We're here because we want amission to inspire other people
to get outside and enjoy campingadventures such as we have as a
family.
Today's episode is just alittle bit of a wrap up, a
little bit of a look back atsome of the stuff we did this
year and maybe a look ahead towhat we're going to be doing.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
We haven't done much
this year.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Well, you just did
something really interesting
last weekend.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
So I thought we
really should talk about that.
Let's call this sort of a splitepisode.
Thomas and I went, did some dida whitewater tandem canoe.
Introductory course.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Called Tandemonium,
which I thought was pretty funny
.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Yeah, we've got some
great pictures.
We're very thankful for our,for our instructor, jay Ray John
John Reyn Raynard, for takingpictures and videos for us.
It's hard to do when you're inthe canoe and he was apparently
quite an awesome instructor.
I had no idea what I was doingwhen I was trying to book it in
(01:02):
the first place and then youknow, 23-year-old kid is part of
the package.
I had to change it at somepoint and I thought I was going
to have to pay a cancellationfee and they were just.
Carrie was taking care of usvia email and she was awesome.
She just rebooked everything, did all the things.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
This is through
Paddler.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Co-op yes, my
apologies, and did all the
things.
This is through Paddler Co-opyes, my apologies, paddler Co-op
which we've had Ryan on aboutPaddler Co-op and we know quite
a number of people that eitherinstruct there or are on the
board or just go up because it'sa great place to paddle,
apparently for whitewater folks, which, again, I'm extremely new
to.
But I now have two days ofpaddling in whitewater and it
(01:45):
was fantastic.
I was well for the first week,uh.
Afterwards, uh, wickedly sore,uh, very tired, worn out, um,
but we got lucky and ran intoevan lefebvre if you're watching
on social media stuff and, uh,steve from sulik 46.
They were literally campedright beside our site.
We campeded at Patho Co-op overthe weekend and Evan was very
(02:10):
gracious with you.
Know, stretch a lot, you'regoing to be sore, get your
electrolytes in and rest becauseyou're going to be tired.
And he was right, good, creakyold guy.
So I also need to do some morestretching before I go the next
time, which we're hoping to do,hopefully in August sometime
yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
So they got back and
on Sunday, and we're like when
can we go again?
Speaker 2 (02:34):
it was awesome.
I couldn't believe we went fromfrom zero to 60 over the course
of two days.
Two to seven hour days, probably, fair to say, six hour
paddling days with an hour oflunch and recuperation in
between.
Um, but it was.
It was awesome.
They, they have all the gear, they have everything you need,
(02:54):
including, like, like, seriously, we camped, we rented well,
thomas rented the helmet.
Um, I borrowed riley's theywere awesome to lend it to me
because it had a camera mount.
Of course, I didn't have any ofthe receiving parts for the
camera mount because I'm a dummy, but, yeah, paddles, wetsuits,
(03:15):
we could have rented PFDs.
We've got our own Canoes.
Yeah, it was great.
Everybody's so chill and it'ssuch a wonderful community.
I couldn't recommend it enough.
Like we did, the day we gotback, we were already talking
about the next level.
Okay, when are we going to dothat?
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Well, and thanks to
everybody in the camping
community that encouraged andbegged and cajoled and pushed
and all the things to get yougot to do it.
Man, yeah, so he appreciatesthe fact that you, you
encouraged him to do so yes, Iwouldn't have done it on my own,
so thank you.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Thank you for poking
and prodding.
All right, and then this is our.
This is our last episode forseason two.
However you want to look atthat, I think this is going to
be around our fourth year well, yeah, we're.
We'll start our fifth year, likely in september.
We'll call it episode or seasonthree, because that's how
(04:10):
numbers work, unfortunately Ithink we're going to be
somewhere around 180 episodes atthis point, which is kind of
mind blowing because we're justtalking about camping that
people still want to listen toit, so we're thankful for that.
We're thankful for you.
Yeah, our plans this year arewell OK.
So we're going to we're pretty, pretty certain we're going to
(04:30):
do another paddler co-op goaround for For, like, whatever
the next level is, rack up somemore, some more time on the
water, because I think I thinkwe learned a lot of new or
revised strokes from what we dowhen we're on flat water.
It certainly wouldn't hurt tojust rack up more time doing
(04:55):
those, and I feel like there'sgoing to be more strokes.
We're going to need to learn aswell.
We've got jumping way ahead.
In October.
We're out with a bunch of folks, but Greg from Organic Boat
Shop has has set up a trip forthree day.
I think it's a three daySpanish river trip that we're
going on.
So there's going to bewhitewater to run and I don't
(05:18):
want to fall out of the boat ifI can avoid it.
So if I learn how to do stuff, then maybe I won't crash into
things, and you know break acanoe and stay dry because Greg
will be unhappy if I break hiscanoe.
Scratches will probably be fine.
Yeah, what else?
So the big kid and I, Thomasand I, are doing an eight-day in
and around Barren Canyon inAlgonquin in July, towards the
(05:40):
end of July.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
So you can check out
High Falls.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
I can check out High
Falls and we're actually, yeah,
we're close-ish to that.
Yeah, we'll see.
I have set us up for a coupleof hardcore portage days, so
we'll see how much off the trailwe want to do.
What else we're doing august.
So august we're hopefully doingthe powder co-op and then
september we've got two trips.
Pamela and I are going to go touh, it's out towards calarney.
(06:08):
We actually park on the boatlaunch at the south end of
Killarney park, um provincialpark, and then, uh, and then we
paddle for 20 ish minutes overto Philip Edward Island, which
is crown land on Georgian Bay.
We're going to base camp therefor five days.
Do some touring around checkout stuff.
(06:30):
It's a big, it's a pretty bigisland.
There's much of smaller islandskicking around and uh, hope,
we're hoping.
It looks like we've got a roughidea of a plan, but we're
hoping that, uh, our pals, uhthe concept of a plant.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
Wait a minute, that
sounds like somebody's stupid.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Um, we're hoping that
that turns into, uh, our
friends jay and sherry frombeauty, the backcountry, uh
jetting down, for I thinkthey're going to try to go for
three days and alex and jessfrom tents and timber uh,
hopefully they can get up for afor a three-day weekend too,
because that'll'll be a fun hang.
And then towards the end ofSeptember I haven't actually
(07:14):
booked it yet, I typically don't, but I think that's where we'll
end up is towards the end ofSeptember We'll do our usual
annual three-day KorthaHighlands trip, where, again,
it's a base camp, it's aone-site paddle in a little camp
.
It's a one site paddle in alittle ways.
It's usually pretty quiet bythen.
Temperatures are perfect for nobugs and uh, and hopefully
(07:38):
we'll catch some of the colorsin the uh in the trees.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
And then the younger
kid and I are going to head out
on a road trip at the end ofAugust, an eight day road trip
through.
We're going to head up toCalabogie Peaks for a couple of
days and we're going to Ottawafor a couple of days and then
we're going to go toMont-Tremblant for a couple of
days and Kingston for a coupleof days.
So some of it will be kind ofoutdoorsy and hikes and lookouts
and things like that.
Especially around Kalabogiethere's supposed to be one
(08:04):
called Eagle's Nest.
That's pretty stunning and sothat's on the plan.
And then Tremblant will plan todo some hiking and stuff
outside up in Quebec.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
Yeah, I'm kind of sad
I'm not going.
I was really interested inchecking out Tremblant without
snow on it.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
I've been there with
it Summer, it wasn't winter yet.
Yeah, and otherwise Tim.
Yeah, and otherwise tim'salready racking up all kinds of
guests to speak to in the fall.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
So that's already
being planned, I think.
I think we've had, we've gotcheck marks beside about half of
our the number of guestepisodes we're going to have,
but I already have.
I just haven't checked them offyet.
I have enough for the rest ofseason two, depending, assuming
they say season three.
Yeah, did I say season two.
What do I know?
Speaker 1 (08:54):
We just do extended
seasons anyway, so it could be
like it's just going to beseason one forever?
Speaker 2 (08:59):
Yes, I think so.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
