Welcome to Part 1 of 2 with Whitney!

What does it mean to report climate stories that actually inspire people?

In episode 18 of Supersede, Madeleine is joined by Whitney Bauck, climate and environment journalist.

Often the most impactful and potent climate action starts at the hyper-local level. Whitney is excellent at sharing these types of unique and illuminatory stories. In this episode, she expands upon some of her favorites and shares how her superpowers have been shaped by her life experiences – not least of which include having grown up in the Philippines witnessing one of the worst typhoons in history as a high schooler.

Speaking powerfully about the significance of well-told stories, Whitney shares the realization that for her, “nothing could be more important than this. ” For her, journalism must highlight the facts and acknowledge positionality, power, and the potential for solutions.

In an era of information overload and rapidly changing situations, Whitney reminds us of the importance of staying informed, finding sources we trust, and staying focused on what will bring about real change. For those of us with power and platforms, to not have the moral courage to act, would be a waste of a critical opportunity.
