Speaker 1 (00:00):
I need ten or fifteen skirts from Calvin Kleive. Sometimes
I would buy bog instead of dinner. I just felt
it said anymore. This is Taylor Talk with your host
Sammy Rose. If you're thinking of doing a revamp of
your wardrobe before winter arrives, this episode is for you.
Maybe you're overdue for some new clothes to refresh your look.
You still want to stay timeless. This is a list

(00:23):
of items I think you need to have in your
wardrobe that will make dressing in the cooler months very chill.
See what I did there. I laughed at myself when
I wrote this little pun on the paper. Gosh, I'm funny. Okay.
Number one A heavy coat that can be dressed up
or down. One that you wear to the office over
your chic corporate attire, but you can also wear over
a hoodie, jeans and sneakers to a footy game on

(00:44):
the weekend. Let's go for versatility. I've got one. It's
in a camel color from Deck Juba. It's long. I
wore it so much last winter. It works with a
lot of my wardrobe. Also, I don't know if I'm
pronouncing that brand correctly. I love their clothes deck Juba
dec juba. If I am pronouncing it incorrectly, I'm so sorry.

(01:05):
Please slid into my dams on Instagram and let me
know how to correctly pronounce it. But also choose a
color you think will suit your look. So it might
not be camel, maybe black or navy would better go
with what you have in your wardrobe already. Next up,
stylish but comfy boots. If you can't afford RMS, which
I think is most of us, there's plenty of affordable
stylish options out there. I like a little bit of

(01:28):
a heel because I'm a short girly and I feel
like it makes my legs look a bit longer. But
if you're not comfy in a heel, of course a
flat boot is fine too. I have boots in both
black and brown, but if you're on the hunt for
one pair and that's all you can budget at the moment,
cause he lives guys, I recommend going black it literally
goes with everything, or a dark brown similar to an R. M.

(01:49):
Williams boot. Some cheaper options are always available at fsw kmart.
I have a black short heeled pair from Target that
I bought three years ago. And I'll be wearing them
again this winter. They've lasted me just fine, and I
think they cost me thirty dollars. A Third on the
list a pair of versatile jeans. Jeans is a bit

(02:10):
of a controversial topic lately, I'm talking about whether or
not you would wear skinny jeans, So apologiest any gen
Zetas or gen zs that are listening. I think you
should wear whatever makes you feel good. I still own
skinny jeans, and I sometimes still wear them, although lately
I do feel myself I must admit wearing my wide
leg jeans more often. I just think they're more comfortable

(02:32):
and flattering on my figure. I always recommend when you
are buying jeans going for a dark blue rinse instead
of something lighter or with details. I think that color
is flattering on everyone, and a gene color that will
work well with most of the things that you already
have in your wardrobe. Next up on the list a
couple of foolproof cardigans or turtlenecks. So invest in a big,

(02:55):
comfy jumper that will look chic but also protect you
from the chill of cold winds in the middle of winter,
especially if you have to go out to weekend sport
like Saturday mornings. If you've got little ones, you want
something that has a turtleneck. And the great thing about
a turtleneck is it also keeps your neck warm and
still translates well to the office, so you can wear
it on the sideline underneath your big CapMan doo jacket

(03:18):
with your big duffle coat, but still it'll still look
chic when you pair it back and just have the
turtle neck, especially as well in some offices I know
if yours are like mine, where the air conditioning is
so good, sometimes it's also a bit cold. Back to footwear.
Next on the list some quality sneakers. So just like

(03:39):
boots that I mentioned earlier, sneakers are one of those
staple shoes that can be worn with so many different
outfits and also to work if you're in a more
relaxed work environment. I have a pair of white connies
that I wear them gosh at least four times a week,
not just during the week to work, but also on
the weekends with my leggings some big chunky socks. They're

(04:01):
big enough that I can also wear the chunky socks
during those really cold months as well. And last, but
certainly not least, something that I think people tend to overlook.
Get yourself a cute cap or a beanie that you
really really love. I'm not a hat girly. I never
have been. I have a large head for a lady,

(04:22):
I have been told, so sometimes finding a hat is difficult.
But about a year ago I bought myself a couple
of nice caps from the Iconic and I've got like
a little Tommy Hillfiger one or even just want like
the New York Knicks ones in two different colors. So
I've got one in a navy another in La a
cream coffee mocha color, which I love. And it just

(04:43):
means I have options when I want to match my
hat to my outfit, especially if I'm just ducking out
to the shops and I don't want to do my hair,
or I'm heading out for a walk with a friend
and I still want to look nice. It's one of
those easy things that you can do, like coordinating colors
in your outfit, that just makes you look more put to.
So I definitely recommend that spend the thirty bucks or
the forty bucks on a nice cap or a beanie.

(05:06):
If you're more of a beanie girl, and I promise
you won't regret it. So that's it. That's my list
of things for you to have in your capsual wardrobe
this winter. I hope it's been helpful. Talk soon and
stay fabulous.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
