Speaker 1 (00:00):
I need ten or fifteen skirts from Calvin Klein.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Sometimes I would buy big instead of dinner.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
I just felt sad.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
This is Taylor Talk with your host Sammy Rose. This
episode is all about professional teeth whitening, How it works,
is it painful? All the questions you need answered. Our
expert guest on the potty today is Georgia Wood, the
owner of GNNG Whitening. Thank you so much for joining
me today.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Georgia, thank you, Sammy. I'm excited to be here.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Now talk us through the process of getting your teeth
professionally whitened. How long does it take?
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Of course, so our company, TNG Whitening, is a mobile
cosmetic teeth whitening company. So we travel to you and
we wipen your teeth in the comfort of your own
home or office. We'll bring all our equipment. It is
a little long, so it takes about one and a
half hours to two hours. It's a really good opportunity
to relax and catch up on your favorite TV show
(00:58):
while we whiten your teeth.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Oh my gosh, that's amazing. So you guys literally will
come to my house.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Yeah that's correct. Yeah, so a little different from going
to a dental office.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Yeah, and better, I reckon if you ask me what
chemicals do you guys use?
Speaker 1 (01:13):
So we use hydrogen peroxide. It's an oxidizing agent that
helps break down stains into smaller, less visible particles. Where
you combine that with the use of a blue led
light which helps to enhance the breakdown of the peroxide
and also accelerate the whitening process. We then also give
our clients a take home whitening pen which is carbamyde peroxide,
(01:37):
So another commonly used professional teeth whitening product.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Now, after I've had my teeth professionally whitened with you guys,
are the results straight away or does it take a
little while to kind of reach I guess you would
call it your full whitening potential.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Yeah, so the results will be seen immediately. Generally you
can even see them improve over the one to two
days post treatment. It'll vary for each person. So some
people will do one treatment and they'll get great results
and kind of the immediate results they were after. Some
people might need to do more than one treatment.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
And how long did those affects us or georgia?
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Yeah, so it can depend on several factors including the
method used for teeth whitening, so professional teeth whitening can
last anywhere from months to a year or even more.
It's also influenced by lifestyle factors such as diet and
oral hygiene. So diet things like consuming food and beverages
that stain your teeth, such as coffee, tea, red wine berries,
(02:42):
they'll obviously contribute to the restaining of teeth, anything like
tobacco use obviously if you're a smoker, and then as well,
oral hygiene obviously will affect it as well, so regular
brushing things like that. You can even use whitening toothpaste
that'll help as well. So it will vary for each individual.
(03:03):
But there's obviously things that you can avoid to help
get longer lasting results, and there's things that you can do,
such as having good oral hygiene, brushing regularly, flossing, having
a dental checkup and clean and using whitening chippaste that
can help prolong those results.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
You mentioned that diet and a few other things that
contribute obviously, like taking care of our teeth that contribute
to the whitening effects lasting for a little while. Is
there any immediate aftercare involved once you've had your teeth
professionally whitened.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
There is, so immediately following teeth whitening, we ask you
not to eat or drink except for water for three
hours immediately post treatment. Then for the next seventy two hours,
so three days post treatment, we ask you to stick
to a white and clear diet. So we're talking things
like chicken, fish, rice, potatoes, essentially avoiding any staining substances,
(04:00):
so especially your coffee, your tea, your red wine, your berries,
you know, your spaghetti, bollinaise, things like that. So a
rule that we use is a white T shirt rules,
So we say anything that would stain a white T shirt,
don't eat for the next three days. Following that, you're
fine to go back to normal. The reason that that
is is your teeth are porous. So just like your
(04:21):
skin's got paws, your teeth have paws, and the whitening
process essentially affects that. So think of your teeth like
a sponge for the first three days post teeth whitening,
and anything you drink and eat is going to be
absorbed by your teeth and essentially would stain them.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Now I've got a few friends in family Georgia that
have got a veniers or they've got caps on their teeth.
Does that matter when it comes to the professional whitening process.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
So those materials are not porous like a natural tooth enamels,
so they're not going to respond to whitening agents in
the same way, so they eventually won't whiten. Sometimes you
can get what we call a whitening effect on those
So if you've had a veneer or you've had a
(05:11):
cap on your tooth for many many years, over years,
those products will have gotten some surface stains on them,
so those surface stains may lift off, but those materials
are never going to whiten beyond the color they're made.
So a lot of people that have veneers will generally
get them made whiter than their natural teeth, and quite
(05:32):
often what we're they're doing is actually whitening their natural
teeth to match their venyears. Materials like what's used for
a filling don't whiten as well, So depending on the location,
it won't matter. So I myself have some feelings down
in my bottom mole, is given that location, I'm not
going to care about the color discrepancy, So I, you know,
(05:54):
whiten my teeth and not worry what those are going
to look like. You've had a cap on your front tooth,
you'd have to be conscious of the color discrepancy that
will happen between your natural surrounding teeth. So you kind
of have two options. We can either whiten your teeth
and keep our eye on that material and make sure
that your natural teeth don't overtake it too much. Or
(06:15):
if you're in a position then we'd recommend you know,
whiten your teeth as much as possible and then look
to get that replaced at the dentist.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
Does the process damage your teeth at all?
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Georgia, So professional teeth whitening is generally considered safe and
unlikely to cause damage to your teeth. The whitening agents
used in professional teeth whitening, such as hydrogen peroxide and
carbo bioed peroxide, have extensively been studied and are approoved
for dental use. However, it is essential that you go
(06:44):
and see your dentists prior to teeth whitening and just
have an assessment gun of your overall oral health, so
that's your teeth health and also your gum health. So
it is not safe if you do have cavities, or
if you do have a gum disease, so it's really
important to make sure that you get any of that
addressed prior to whitening.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
The one question, Georgia that my friends and family wanted
me to ask you is does it hurt?
Speaker 1 (07:11):
You? Know?
Speaker 2 (07:11):
I guess sometimes when I've used I haven't had my
teeth professionally whitened, But when I've used a whitening strip
or even sometimes like a strong whitening toothpaste, there's a
bit of a tingle like is it painful or is
it usually pretty okay?
Speaker 1 (07:26):
Now that varies, so some people will get pain and
sensitivity and other people will get nothing. It's unfortunately hard
to say. If you do have sensitive teeth, then I
would recommend using a product called tooth smooth. You can
buy this from your dentist or from some chemists behind
the counter. That product puts minerals back into your teeth,
(07:47):
so it can help with some of the sensitivity. So
you'd want to use that product in the lead up
to the whitening and post widening. But unfortunately the answer
is yes, you should expect pain and sensitivity, and if
you don't get it, that's great. At genes whitening, we
kind of do the opposite of dentists. So sometimes dentists
will go in with quite strong hydrogen peroxide and try
(08:10):
and get the whitening done and dusted. Yeah, we use
a lower percentage of hydrogen peroxide and do it over
a longer treatment time to gradually try and whiten the
teeth with less pain and sensitivity. So some clients do
we experience pain and sensitivity. There's a term called zingers,
(08:32):
which is when you get a sharp sheet of pain
through your tooth. We find that not many of our
clients experience that because we're using not a strong hydrogen peroxide.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Okay, wow, and now I've got to thank you. I
had so many of these curious questions and because I
said earlier, I haven't had my teeth professionally whitened. And
