Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is episode 86,
talking about life purposes.
Hello everybody, welcome toTaiwanica.
I'm your host today.
My name is Anita.
Welcome back and welcome totoday's episode.
Today's episode is about lifepurposes.
That's right.
Sometimes your life does notjust have one purpose, they have
(00:24):
many different purposes.
So I will be telling you why.
And, of course, the mostcommonly asked question is how
do I find my life purposes?
So I will be introducing threedifferent ideas, sharing
different perspectives aboutthis big topic with you today.
So, if you're ready, let's diveon in.
(00:49):
Life purposes is such a bigtopic, isn't it?
Every time we're talking aboutlife purposes, what do you think
is your life purpose?
Right?
If you ask the question, it'snot easy to answer.
Right, if you ask the question,it's not easy to answer because
every time we talk about thisterm, our mind immediately goes
(01:10):
to like oh, it must be somethingreally important, it must have
something super meaningful, hasto be something magnificent, has
to be something superincredible.
That should be your lifepurposes, right?
Right, like when we look atthose famous people, like
matatrissa, all those famouspeople.
(01:31):
Their life purpose is that.
You know like save the world, world peace.
Think about that level everytime you ask like life purposes.
It doesn't have to be that way.
First thing first, you have torealize how unique you are.
Those famous people, they areour role model.
Because they are famous, theyare role model.
(01:53):
They're making impact to theworld, right, but you are a very
unique individual.
You can use your own way tomake the impact in your life,
other people's life and in theworld for the world.
So first thing first is likecome on, you have to find your
(02:15):
own life purposes.
And does it have to be alwaysso incredibly great?
It does not have to be.
Your life purposes is thepurposes that serves your life.
So you have to find youruniqueness in order to find your
life purposes.
So give yourself some credits.
Don't get overwhelmed by thisyou know topic the life purpose
(02:40):
feels like you have to besomething super different from
the rest of people.
It does not have to be likethat, okay.
So the first thing first, keepin mind you are a very unique
person.
You will have your lifepurposes.
Don't need to compare it toanybody else.
And also, because you know youdon't just set one goal, one
(03:04):
purpose and you just spend allof your life tracing that
purpose, you can think aboutwhat is my purpose now.
Either you are 10 years old, 20years old, 30, 40, 50.
Different stages of life.
You have different experience, different perspectives about
(03:24):
life, different.
Different experience, differentperspectives about lives,
different things you need totrace.
You're in the different seasonsof your own life.
So instead of, instead of askingyourself what is my life
purposes, asking yourself whatis my life purposes now?
What are my life purposes rightnow?
(03:45):
Right and just, there's onequestion that you can ask
yourself really quick.
Probably wouldn't just give youthe, the direct answer, right,
it wouldn't be just one plus oneequals two and then you find
your life purposes.
No, it's not like that.
But they can give you somedirections to lead you to find
(04:09):
the answer or lead you to takeone step closer to finding the
answer right.
So here goes, close your eyesand ask yourself if, right now,
everything that I'm worriedabout disappeared, everything
(04:33):
I'm worried about has been takencare of Money, family,
relationships and anything.
Everything in your life hasbeen taken care of.
You have nothing to worry about.
What is the first thing youlike to do?
(04:56):
People might say starttraveling, go to sleep or go to
a hair salon or stuff like that.
Right, so nothing that you needto worry about, nothing.
Think about something big.
Nothing you need to worry aboutright now.
Everything in your life's beentaken care of.
What is the things that youwanted to do?
If your answer is to, for say,go, um, go, travel, and then
(05:21):
keep asking the follow-upquestion where do you want to go
and why?
Right, you just fulfilled thethings that mean the most to you
.
Right now, at this point and inthis point of life, you might
just take one step closer toyour life purposes.
(05:42):
Right, maybe your life purposesright now is to step out your
comfort zone, to see the world,to experience life, to have a
different opinions aboutyourself and seeing a different
ability that you have and hadnever had a chance to use.
(06:07):
So that is so beautiful becauseyou there is.
No, there is not just oneanswer or one purpose for
waiting for you to find it.
You have to go through life, you have to experience life in
order to get there, and thereare the three things that you
(06:33):
can do in order to have moreclear idea, to have a clear idea
about what your life purposesare.
Okay, that was a simplequestion.
Right now, I want you to takethose three steps and then ask
yourself that same questionagain, right?
(06:53):
The first thing is calledself-awareness.
When you are aware, when youare aware in something is not
good enough, especially in yourlife, that means you're on the
right path.
You're on the right path tosearch for the answer that you
(07:15):
are searching for.
In order to find the answer, the very first step is always to
find the question.
Like there's something wrong, there is something in my life,
or many things in my life, doesnot make me feel happy,
fulfilled, or I don't feel Ibelong to a certain group, or I
(07:37):
feel like there's something elseout there for me to see, for me
to do, for me to see, for me todo, for me to experience.
This is the very first step, which is the self-awareness.
You have to aware something.
In fact, if you are asking thequestion, if you're also curious
about this question, whenyou're listening, like what is
(07:58):
my life purpose or life purposes, you already have the very
first step that I want you to do.
It's called the self-awareness.
Like you have the awareness, find the question.
Then you will trigger yourmotivation to find the answer.
The answer is within you.
(08:18):
So which lead us to the secondidea, which is self-reflection.
Self-reflection is so importantbecause, like I said, the
things that you wanted to do,that your heart would tell you.
Your heart would tell you, yourgut would tell you what is the
things that you would like to do.
(08:39):
How many people say I wouldlike to travel, but I don't have
enough money.
But I have a job, but my kidsso little.
I cannot travel.
Everything after the things thatyou already wanted to do and
after.
But those are excuses, thoseare your fear stopping you from
(09:04):
stepping out your comfort zoneto do the things that you really
want to do.
That's just the truth, becauseeverything after but is what
we've been trained by oursociety um, also probably become
uh, become also probably uh,depending on the culture setting
(09:27):
that you're from.
Maybe you're coming from theculture telling you that, well,
as a mother, you should just bea stay-at-home mom.
You're not supposed to go outthere and chase your dream,
because you need to devote it toyour family and your, your
children.
Right?
(09:47):
Maybe that's what taught us andtrained us to think that way.
So everything, if you look atpaying attention again, have the
higher awareness, payingattention about the things that
you said that can tell you theanswer, for example, if I say
well, if everything in my lifeis is, you know, worry-free, I
(10:11):
don't have to worry aboutanything.
I would like to go travel.
I would like to go see greece, for example.
I really want to go, but I needto take care of my kid.
I cannot leave my kids so manydays.
Maybe this is telling you youshould feel guilty about doing
the things you really want byleft your kids behind.
(10:37):
That might be your culturaltalking, that might be society
talking.
That might be other reasons ofanswering the questions for you,
right?
So that's why self-reflectionis so important to to have this,
(10:57):
um self-reflection.
There are a few few things thatyou can do, of course,
meditation and journaling, right?
Um, meditation, you can sitdown by just asking you the
question.
Keep on asking yourself why.
That's a meditation practicethat you can do right now, after
(11:21):
this episode.
Just ask yourself what do Ireally want to do?
Yeah, the same question that Iasked you in the beginning of
this episode if everything hasbeen taken care of, you don't
have to worry about anything.
What is the thing?
What is that one thing that youlike to do?
You'll find your answer andthen you ask yourself, why keep
(11:43):
on asking why, why, why, why, why?
And then you will find theanswer.
That is a self-reflection, andsometimes self-reflection could
be.
You just pay a little bitattention to yourself, the way
you're thinking, the way thatyou're feeling, your emotions,
(12:05):
your idea, thoughts.
So hence why journaling is soimportant and so profound.
It is because when you arejournaling especially, they give
you this sense of securitybecause you're writing it down.
And it's so powerful becausewhen you write it down, a piece
(12:28):
of paper, you can see it rightand you can even make, make it
the book just for you, so nobodyelse can touch it.
Or you can have a page on yourcomputer that you have locked on
it right.
You create this self, a safespace for yourself to just
(12:50):
writing down, express yourfeeling, express your emotions,
tune in to what you are feelingright now.
Just by writing it down, byjournaling about it, you are
already doing theself-reflection.
Why do I feel guilty if Iwanted to study abroad?
Maybe because I'm afraid peoplewill say that I betrayed my
(13:14):
family?
I shouldn't take my family'sbusiness per se and keep on
asking a question, writing itdown what is the emotion that
you're feeling?
Which one is really moreimportant to you.
Don't let your parents down orchasing your dreams right.
Those are all very usefulpractice that you can do.
(13:36):
When it comes to self-reflection, okay, and the next, uh, the
next step will be very important.
It's called self-healing.
When you are doing, uh, thesecond step, which is
self-reflection, you might see,uh, you will start seeing.
(13:57):
Not, might you will startseeing, uh, you and your past
experience, maybe even go downto when you are even younger,
like when you're a kid.
My mom says this you know, maybe when you're a kid, you
wanted to be an astronaut.
Your mom says, no, you know,it's not idealistic.
(14:17):
You have to be a teacher andstuff like that, and make you a
teacher right now.
And you know, like your life, right, that's why we're here.
You don't, you're not happyabout your life and start having
this self-reflection.
You came back to that momentand then you have this oh,
(14:37):
realization says, wow, that'sbecause I care so much about my
mom's, what my mom said andhence why I'm choosing this life
to fulfill my mom's wish, and Igive up on what I really want.
Right, then, self-healing isprofound and very crucial.
(14:59):
The last one, which is the verylast step I will be sharing is
that is self-healing.
Okay, so, self-healing?
Many different ways.
Again, meditation is one ofthem and, of course, what I said
(15:22):
earlier is true, it's.
You already have the answer.
The answer is within you.
You have to go deep inside ofyour heart in order to find the
answer.
Deep inside of your heart inorder to find the answer.
Okay, so, through self-healing,you will just get one step
(15:42):
closer to the answer.
So, um, since we mentioned about, you know the experience that
we have when we were a kid, uh,if and influence the life that
we choose right now, even thelife that we lived in right now,
or maybe some principles thatwe're still holding, but it does
not apply to our present lives, our current lives anymore.
(16:05):
Right, then, you have to goback to the, the inner child.
Um, this inner child, is youright?
Why is it inner?
Because we feel like it's likethis little kid, um, who could
never grow up.
Um, because nobody else ishelping that kid to grow up.
(16:29):
Hence why, every time we thinkabout our past experience,
especially the experience thatmake us feel sad or give us some
negative emotions, we feel likewe go back to be that child
again.
Right?
Either is, we feel disappointed, we feel left out, we feel hurt
(16:56):
, we feel stupid, we feel allthose kind of things.
We feel like we areexperiencing that again as a
five-year-old self.
So that's what is called theinner self.
So by healing those inner childis simply by again meditation.
(17:17):
You are doing the timetraveling.
When you're thinking about.
You know your, your pastexperience, because you're my
going back in time when you areyounger, even when you're a
little kid.
You experience the samememories, same experience, same
(17:38):
emotions.
So why don't you using yourability of time traveling
through your mind to heal it?
The very first thing I want youto do is to sit down.
You know it'll be the best ifyou have a clear image in your
(17:58):
mind a certain time of your lifethat that moment happened and
make me feel hurt and I stillhaven't forgiven someone or
something that happened to me inthe past.
That's great.
You hold this image in yourmind and just dive.
(18:19):
Dive into this memory byclosing your eyes, sitting in a
quiet place, allowing yourselfto go back in time and watch
everything happen, not doinganything, just let it happen.
Don't suppress it, don't try tofix it, don't do anything, just
(18:46):
witnessing it.
And when it's done, of course, when you're witnessing it, when
you're watching it, just feellike you're watching a movie.
Of course you're feeling certainemotions.
Emotions doesn't matterwhatever, doesn't matter what
that is or what they are.
Feel it.
Feel it and return as youradult self, adult, right, like
(19:17):
as you right now, going back andjust give that child a hug, say
, hey, it's okay.
I know what you've been through.
I know it's not the bestexperience, but it's okay.
It's okay to feel what you feelright now.
It is okay.
(19:38):
I'm here with you and I wantyou to know what you've been
through will one day make senseand make you stronger.
Just hug it and using youradult version self to heal inner
(20:05):
child.
That's how you heal it.
It is very powerful.
It's gonna be very tearful.
I'm not gonna lie to you.
It's gonna be tearful for um.
In the beginning, especially inthe beginning, you will have
this huge rejection.
Like I don't want to do itbecause it's too painful to to
experience fully again.
Um, I'd rather to stay in thisanger.
(20:27):
You know blame that someonetreat me wrong in the past.
It's easier.
It's easier when you are angryat someone targeting something
right.
So every time you go back.
It's going to be sentimental,it's gonna be hard, it's going
to be tearful, like I say, emotional most of the time, but
(20:49):
those will be a beautiful flower.
It will be a beautiful flowerit will be Once you heal
yourself, you come back in thepresent moment.
You will just feel stronger andmore powerful.
So that is the power ofself-healing, because we are not
(21:15):
trying to change our past.
What happened in the past iswhat happened.
If there is just some image thatbothers you, or throughout the
whole day, they keep on poppingup like, oh that's the reason
why I did certain things, Ibehave a certain way, I say a
certain thing, that will be areally good sign and really good
(21:35):
chance for you to do thisself-healing process right.
And, of course, you can alwayscombine meditation, journaling,
those kinds of things together,right?
You go into the, you walk intoa meditation doing the things I
(21:55):
just mentioned and after thatwriting it down.
How do you feel right now?
Those are all very powerfultools for your self-healing
journey.
So those are the three thingsyou have to do in order to get
(22:16):
closer to your life purposes, which are self-awareness,
self-reflection and self-healing.
That you do it the more youunderstand yourself right,
(22:37):
because you're looking for yourlife purposes.
If you don't understandyourself, if you don't let go of
what does not suit you, meaninghealing, then you're not able
to find it, you're not able tomove forward right.
So right now, after you've donethose three things, ask
yourself the same question againif everything in my life's
(22:57):
being taken care of, what isthat one thing I would like to
do?
You might have just found youranswer for your life purposes.
So very, very, very happy to beback and have time for this new
