What's going on, everybody? It's that ordinary podcaster
(01:38):
with the extraordinary thoughts that.
Tells you to stop being great and be.
Extraordinary. I'm Demetrius Thakman, also
known as me. Speaks and welcome back to
another episode of the Talking Crazy podcast now.
Before we get started with this podcast, don't.
Forget to head on over to your favorite streaming platform,
whether that's. Apple Podcast or Spotify?
Podcast and leave this podcast ahonest review.
Because this podcast. I keep saying it, you know what
(01:58):
I mean? Like I keep saying leave this
podcast an honest review, but I'm not getting honest reviews.
OK, so I will say this again, A.Lot of people are.
Listening to the. Show, but they have.
Not subscribed a lot of people. A lot of people are listening to
the show but ain't left a reviewor a rating.
Do me a favor, all right? Like from the bottom of my
(02:18):
heart, I read them all. And I appreciate them all, but
please keep them coming. Leave a honest review, Leave a
rating, because this podcast deserves to grow as much as we
do. What's going on, everybody?
So now I could be. Wrong when I say this all right?
I could be. Wrong but to be.
Honest. With you, I really feel like we
overcomplicate things. OK, I will just be the first.
(02:41):
One to say. This all right, and when I say
this remember once again all right this ain't me speaking
from a high horse. This captain flying in on
experience airlines all right this uncle Michi.
You know what I mean? Like, I cannot stress this
enough, but I, I really feel like we.
Overcomplicate things. Now this.
Is once again coming from somebody that is known to.
Overcomplicate things. All right, I'm an overthinker.
(03:04):
I will overanalyze things. But in those moments, right when
I find myself overthinking and overanalyzing and making
something. So simple, complicated.
I remove myself, you feel? Me like, I remove myself.
I ask myself a couple of questions.
I look at the situation. Again, from a different lens,
more than likely when I'm calm and my heart rate's not.
(03:26):
Up and I. Realize like.
I think I'm just over. Complicating something so
simple. So once again, I could, I could
be wrong dude. Like I could.
Be. But I don't think I am all.
Right. And I.
Honestly. Feel like we over complicate
some things. And I.
Bring that up, man. Because I got a chance to appear
(03:47):
on a podcast. This weekend and you know,
episodes going to come out laterthis year.
And he? Asked me a question and first
and foremost. Shout out to Four Years of a
Slave. Wow, that is a crazy name.
Four years as a slave, That is crazy.
All right, Dimitri, you're goingto have to have a conversation
with yourself offline. But once again, shout out to the
podcast. Thank you.
Thank you for having me on. But.
(04:09):
He asked me a couple of questions along the lines of
resiliency, mindset, you know, consistency.
Like how can someone gain these things?
Like how can someone gain like things like mental toughness?
And as I was sitting. Back, you know what I mean?
Like I wanted to. Give like this.
Sage and wise answer, you feel me?
Especially because the space that I'm in.
But at the exact. Same time bro, like it wasn't
(04:32):
needed. All I said was you just.
Got to fucking do it. You just got to get up.
Like like I would just be the first one to just say that, man.
Like we overcomplicate things like Wellness, we overcomplicate
things like success, we overcomplicate things like
mindset, we overcomplicate things like mental toughness.
But the reality is, is that you.Just have to fucking do it.
(04:55):
Like, I get it, man. Like we try to like make it so
complex to seem like it's special.
People try to portray it like it's this complex entity to make
it seem like it's fucking special.
But the reality is, is that all you have?
To do is just do it, you feel me?
And I feel like a lot of us, man, like you, you want to take
(05:15):
this ice bath? You want to go on this super
crazy diet? You feel me?
You want to. Buy these vision.
Boards. You want to buy all of these?
Trinkets and this gear and. All of this shit, but all you
really do, all you really need is for life to knock you down
one time so you can get back up.That's it.
All you need is for life to knock you down one time so you
(05:39):
can show them that you're going to get back up.
All you need is a few days to show life that you're
consistent. All you need to do is just.
Change. Who you hanging around?
All you need to do is just change your habits.
It sounds like it's hard, you feel me?
It sounds like it's just super complex.
It's not. It's not.
(06:01):
It's simple. He asked me about like the
podcast and I I told him bro, like when I first started
podcasting, I was in a fucking linen closet.
You, you feel me? I wasn't in the studio.
I was in a linen closet with toilet paper and paper towel and
other stuff that I will buy and bulk.
And put in there. And I had a gaming headset.
And a phone. And a.
App and I was kicking that fucking.
(06:22):
Shit, sometimes all you got to do is just start.
Sometimes all you got to do. Is just do it.
I felt like we fuck ourselves up, right?
Like we fuck ourselves up when we get caught up in the whole
social media mindset. And what I mean by the social
media? Mindset man like we social media
does a. Terrible job of portraying.
Something you feel me like it shows.
Like the highlights? It shows like the intricacies,
(06:44):
it shows like the complexities of something when in reality
it's just simple. You feel me?
And I get it. I get it.
If you show somebody hopping in an ice bath to prove that you're
mental, mentally tough, then youknow that that's going to bring
the views. If you show like this crazy diet
of how you're eating on a regular basis, it is going to
(07:05):
get somebody like, yeah. I need to do that.
If you show somebody with a mic and a fancy laptop and a nice
camera and all of that shit, it just shows like, Oh yeah, you
know, I'm commit, I'm committed, and this is what it takes to be
at a successful. It's not bro.
It's not all right. Am I saying that those things
are not important? No, those things are all right.
(07:27):
You take a ice bath, I promise you do like.
You going to be wanting to get out you're.
Going to want to get out. You're going to feel like you
got to go into shock. It will build mental toughness.
You feel me? If you are creating.
Content. Eventually, you're not.
Going to be able to just. Bring in a gaming.
Headset and a phone. And just.
Continue to kick that shit for 1000.
Episodes. No, eventually you don't have
to. Get the mics you.
Have to get the computer. You have to get the.
Ring light you. Have to upgrade you feel me?
(07:50):
If. You want to start.
Working out, you feel me? At some point, you're going to
have to take a step back and ask.
Yourself like, all right, what? Works best for my body.
What works best for me? What are the things that I
should be eating? What are You're going to have to
start doing that? But the.
Thing is, is that we try to makeit seem like the.
Middles. The Middles.
(08:11):
Are the beginnings, but the reality is, is that the
beginning is just fucking doing it.
It's not that hard. Now, as I sit back on this
episode. One of the.
Things that I. Always Will Remember is my time
at the Martial Arts and Fitness Center of Excellence.
You know what I mean? I remember when I first got up
there and I'm going to just tellyou right now, OK?
(08:31):
There was a period from I want to say October 2020 to roughly I
want to say about like February, about February 2022.
I didn't want to say shit to nobody.
I didn't want to say anything tonobody.
Don't call me asking me how I'm enjoying my time.
(08:53):
At the maze, don't. Ask me what it's like I didn't
want to talk to nobody and if you.
Knew. Me.
When I worked up there, I was very closed off.
I was very short with my answers.
I was. I was.
Kind of like distant. From everybody reason why is
because I was in the mud all thetime.
You feel me? The reason why is because I was
in the trenches all the time. The reason why is because I was
(09:14):
getting my ass beat for a year and a half straight.
All right. And and people don't people
don't know that man. Like they think like, oh, you
know, you're good. You know when they see me, when
they would see me, they would think like, oh shit, like you're
really good. It took me it took me a year and
a half to get this good. It took me a while to get here.
I bring that up, man, because when you look at it from a
(09:36):
martial arts perspective for you, when you.
Look at it from a combative perspective for you.
Just look at it from a fighting perspective.
If you've never done it before, you're already going to suck,
you feel me? You're already going to suck.
And the problem is, is like we we view this part right here we.
View this as like it's a period, when in reality is actually a
comma. Like, yes, you suck.
(09:57):
And when we hear that, we're like.
Oh fuck man, I. Suck I'm gonna never get.
Better. How can I do this?
Oh shit, I need to go to a Dojo.I need to, I need to, I need to
find a wizard and he needs to teach me and it's like, no bro,
it's a comma. It's not a period.
You suck. But you can get better, OK?
You can get better. And that's exactly what
(10:18):
happened. You feel me like I remember.
Being up there and sucking. OK, I'm talking about getting
knocked out. Standing up.
You feel me taking more punches than I was throwing, You feel
me? I remember just being in the
trenches and constantly having to train and constantly having
to work. And that's the piece right
there, OK? I didn't do any complex
(10:38):
movement. I didn't go on this magical
quest, bro. I would just show up before
everybody. Else did.
And I would go in the mat room and I will run the exact same
drill over and over and over. You feel me?
I will run the exact same drill,OK.
And it was a very simple drill. Step forward, step back, throw
(11:00):
your punches, you know, And thenI would just build from there.
I say that, man, because I remember those moments.
You feel me. Like I remember those moments
and being there by myself, just doing the basics, you feel me.
Just doing the basics. Nothing crazy, just something
very simple and just fine tuningit.
Fine tuning it just showing up every single day.
(11:22):
Did I still get my ass whooped the next day?
Yes. Did I get my ass whooped right
after I got done doing all thosedrills 100%?
But guess what I did the next day?
I went back in the map room and I continued to keep fine tuning
it. I say that to say this, Some
things are not as complex as youthink they are.
Sometimes you just got to continue to keep doing it.
(11:44):
Sometimes you just got to get knocked down.
Pick yourself back up. And get back to what you were
doing already. You feel me?
Like people look at me and thinklike, oh shit, man, how long
have you been boxing? I've never boxed.
I never boxed. They show me some things and I
kept fucking fine tuning it. I kept drilling it.
It ain't hard. I just kept doing it until my
brain told me like, hey, this isexactly what it is.
(12:06):
I take that, man. Because when you look at
anything, anything in your lives, let me phrase that.
When you look at most things in your lives, especially the
things that we're chasing after, take all that fluff out, Take
all that glimmer out, take all of that glam out.
You feel me? It's not as.
Hard as. You think it is?
It's really not. You want to lose weight?
(12:27):
Go to the gym. You feel me?
As you start to move your body, you're going to start to
realize, OK, I need to start feeding my body properly.
OK, how do I feed my body properly?
You feel me? You want to learn how to fight?
Go to a Dojo I. Promise you you're going to suck
in the beginning, but if you continue to.
Keep doing it. I promise you, you're going to
get better. You want to be, you want to
chase after your dreams, all yougot to fucking do is put your
feet on the ground and start moving towards them.
(12:48):
That's it. It ain't you.
It ain't nothing else, bro. Like it ain't nothing else, all
right? But we, we, we misconstrue.
The complexities with, with the with, the simple things with the
simplicities now another. Thing that I've learned.
And this goes back to when I first started podcasting, when I
(13:08):
very first started. Podcasting.
I got a. Chance to sit down with and for
those who don't know, he's like he he he's a coach of Muay Thai
professor. You know that y'all probably
heard or but his proper term is a Jean.
All right, It was a Jean Rubin and I remember sitting down and
talking to him and I hope he's doing well.
You know what I mean? I'm going to reach out to him,
but I remember sitting down and talking to him and he was
(13:31):
telling me about a guy that was fighting and the guy that was
fighting, you feel me? He.
He. Obviously lost the fucking
fight. He lost the fucking fight.
And he wanted to quit. He wanted to quit.
He didn't want to do it no more. And John Rubin asked him.
He said, hey, I understand that you want to quit, but I'm going
to ask you a question real quick.
If you were winning. Would you still want to quit?
(13:54):
All right. And I'll say that again.
If you were winning, would you still want to quit?
The guy naturally looked at him and said hell no, if I was
winning, I wouldn't even be in this situation.
You feel me? Like if I was winning, I
wouldn't even be thinking like this right now if I was winning,
he said Exactly, exactly. You feel like this right now.
You feel like this right now because you're.
(14:16):
Losing you feel. Like this right now because you
feel. Like things aren't working out
in your favor, you feel? Like this right now because
you've it ain't going the way that you.
Wanted to. But I bet.
You right now if you were winning.
You feel me? If if everything that you were
doing was working, you wouldn't want to quit quitting wouldn't
even be in your mind. I bring that up my because a lot
(14:38):
of us, we just got to change theperspective of how.
We view in certain things. You, you, you, you.
You don't want to quit, you feelme?
You. It's not as complex as you is,
but I bet you right now if you were winning, if you were
winning, you wouldn't even thinkabout that.
So many people will start. Something.
So many people will. Start something and they will
(15:01):
stop doing it because they. Feel like it's not working but
they will leave out the. Part that they just fucking
started, you feel me? They they will leave out the
part where they're still grasping the idea, but because
we don't get. That immediate.
Success. Like we don't get that immediate
win. All of a sudden it's, it's a
dub. Yeah.
(15:22):
I mean, it's, it's, it's a dud all of a sudden.
We don't want to, we don't want to do it no more.
But I asked you right now. If you were winning, would you
still quit? If you were going to the gym
right now and you were immediately seeing the results
that you always wanted, would you still want to walk away from
the gym? No.
If you were fighting right now, you are knocking people out, you
(15:42):
doing all these fancy moves and everything like that, what would
you want to stop doing it? No.
If you were chasing after your dreams and everything was
falling into your lap and and and everything was just
happening in the way that it wassupposed to, would you want to
walk away? No, if you were in your career
and you were getting the promotion, you were getting the
(16:04):
recognition. Everybody was praising.
You but you still want to changecareers.
It's a no brainer. The answer is no.
We overcomplicate things when wedon't.
See the immediate result. We feel like, as if, like.
What we're doing is just wrong. But the reality is, is that you
just started. The reality is, is that you're
(16:26):
just learning it. The reality is, is that you're
still trying to comprehend like the the idea of it.
You're still trying to grasp it.And and then we try to
overcomplicate this thing. Like it's just, oh, I need to go
on this sage quest. I need to find this as John.
I need to find this professor. But it's like, bro, honestly,
man, you just need to show the fuck up, OK?
(16:47):
You just need to stay consistent, all right?
You just need to just do it now. Here's the caveat to this
episode, just because it's. Simple does not.
Mean that it's easy. I will say that again.
OK, I. Don't want nobody to walk away
from this episode thinking that simple and easier one in the
same. No the fuck they're not.
Just because it's simple does not mean that it's easy, OK?
(17:12):
It's still, it's still hard, bro.
Like it's still hard. Do you think that it was easy
for me to show up every single day at 5:00 in the morning when
the drill starts? Let me phrase that actually
wasn't even 5. I had to be there roughly around
like 4:30 because the students had to be there at 6:00.
So do you think it was easy to wake up every?
(17:32):
Single morning at 4:00. O'clock be at the gym at 4:30,
train, fine tune, do all of thisshit by myself and then turn
around and go out there with those students.
Then later that day, fight. No, no it wasn't.
It took a certain level of. Strength and consistency.
(17:53):
That I had to. Have within myself OK?
I promise you, when you look at anybody that has.
Ever been successful bro? And I would just use myself as
an example because this is my show when I was writing that
book. All I had to do was just write.
All I had to do was write. However, do you think that it
was easy to wake up or go to work all day?
(18:15):
Come home. Eat, be, you know, be with the
family, then turn around and write a book when you're already
fucking tired, knowing that you got to be up early again.
Fuck no it wasn't. It took a level of consistency
to even go to the gym. It still takes a level of
consistency. It's still even when life
knocked me down bro like and I'ma living testament to that.
Even when life would knock me down.
(18:36):
It took a certain level of. Courage to stand back up it took
a certain. Level of strength.
To stand back up. So just because it's.
Simple. That doesn't mean that it's
easy, all right? And I don't want anybody to.
Think. Think.
Those two are just one in the same.
They're not. Bro, all right.
Just because I'm telling you that to stop over complicating
something just because I'm telling you to.
(18:57):
Don't bring. In so many intricacies to
something so simple doesn't meanthat it's.
I'm. Alleviating the difficulty.
No, it's still fucking hard. You're going to need faith, you
feel me? You're going to need some type
of consistency. You're going to need some type
of courage. You're going to need some type
of strength. You're going to need to fall
back on those things because I promise.
(19:19):
You man like I. Promise you you're going to need
those on those moments because once again, you will want to
feel like you. You're going to feel like you
want to quit. All right?
You're going to feel like you want you want to quit.
Now, as we close out this episode, I just want to
reiterate a couple of things, OK?
Because I don't want anybody to walk away from this episode.
Think of that. I'm trying to like put down one
(19:40):
thing to raise up another. Simple and easy are two
different things, OK? All right.
Just because it's simple, that doesn't mean that it's fucking
easy. It's not.
All right, those ice baths, those.
Motivational quotes that you'll be seeing, You know those.
Diets are those things. Helpful. 100% yes.
Are they needed? No, they're not.
Femi, they're not. And your perspective, your
(20:03):
perspective, I promise you, if you changed it, you would get
better results from what you're doing.
You will stop overcomplicating it.
You will stop overthinking it. To be honest with you, a lot of
the things that we're doing, it's not that fucking hard.
It's not that complex. It's actually very simple.
So I will. I will.
Challenge everybody that's listening to this episode this
(20:23):
week, OK? This week, if you are faced with
a Mama where you're sitting back, like damn man, like what
the fuck am I doing wrong? Take a step back and ask
yourself, am I overthinking this?
Am I over analyzing this? If you find yourself right now
and you're feeling like. It's something's, not.
Working. Or you just don't understand
what's going on. Take a step back.
Take a step back and ask yourself, am I overcomplicating
this? You feel me?
(20:45):
If you're about to go to the store right now and buy some
bullshit, ask yourself, do you really even need that?
Because in reality. Maybe we just over complicating
these things. And just like that, another
extraordinary thought left this ordinary mind.
I hope you enjoyed this episode half as much as I enjoy making
