A report from the World Meteorological Organization confirms that the past decade has been the hottest on record, with 2024 marking the warmest year to date, exceeding 1.5 degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels for the first time. This unprecedented warming is attributed to rising concentrations of greenhouse gases, which have reached levels not seen in hundreds of thousands to millions of years. These changes are contributing to extreme weather events, as well as record-high ocean temperatures and sea levels.
