Jason Harwood (00:40):
Welcome to another episode of Talking Grit.
I'm Jason Harwood and with me isJacob Litton.
We are back to talk about theLions and some other off season
topics.
just released a list of the top50 free agents.
So we thought we'd look intothis year's free agent class,
how it relates to Lions and therest of the division.
We'd also thought since we'regoing to get into the free agent

(01:01):
talk, let's look at last year'sfree agents and trade pickups
and let's just see how theyturned out see the free agents.
We let go, see if Brad Holmesdid a good job deciding to let
them see if the grass is greeneron the other side.
The pro bowl games were justfinished up.
Jacob and I weren't huge fans ofthat, but still there's a couple
of interesting tidbits fromthat.

(01:21):
So we talk a little bit aboutthat, maybe propose some new
events that we would add to thegames.
But first, on Saturday, therewas a big NBA trade.
Luka for Anthony the brow, AndThat's kind of came out of
nowhere.
This isn't an NBA podcast, butit got us thinking, what if we
had to propose a big lion'strade that was a blockbuster

(01:43):
maybe on the same level of that.
So I asked Jacob to come up witha trade.
I came up with one on my own.
Let's see, I'm going to startwith you, Jacob.
First of all, how are you?
I'm good watching the Pistons.
Close game against the Hawks.
Yeah.
They're starting to pull awayfrom us, so we'll see.
Yeah.

(02:03):
Yep.
So if you had to do ablockbuster trade with the
lions, did you come up with one?
I came up with a ridiculous one,but I just want to, because it
was hard to kind of put that inLion's perspective, but I do
have a decent comparison forwhat this would be like for NFL
terms.
I think this Luka trade would belike sending Josh Allen from, if

(02:24):
you're Buffalo, it'd be likesending Josh Allen in the middle
of the season to Pittsburgh forTJ Watt.
Huge blockbuster trade and thenyou know, you've got the the GM
for Dallas or in this case, it'dbe Buffalo like well You know
defense wins championships andhe's too good of a player to
pass up and you know You'll youall see when we start winning.

(02:44):
It just doesn't make any senseYou know look at the face of the
franchise and everything likethat They're losing a lot of fan
support.
I don't think it's going to endup you know, too good for him
over there in the Mavericks.
But, if we're talking in termsof Lions here, and this is not a
trade I want to happen, but, Ithink that would be sending
someone like Amun Ra St.

(03:04):
Brown over to the Raiders andgetting Max Crosby.
Okay.
You know, you're losing staroffensive player, you're getting
a star defensive player, it'slike, you know, is that really a
wash?
Or, you know, So that's thecomparison that I have here.
What do you, what are yourthoughts on a trade like that?
Yeah, definitely would never doit, but yeah, I think that's the

(03:25):
thing is like this trade on theNBA doesn't make sense.
So this lion's trade is notgoing to make sense, but Right.
to put something up on thatmagnitude, what would you do?
We're never trading Amun Ra.
That's crazy.
Mine was JMO.
I was going to trade JMO.
I'm going to trade him over tothe Jets, send him over there
and Glenn, but I'm going to takeSauce Gardner back.
So we're going to get, you wantto get a star defensive player.
I want to start a defensiveplayer back.

(03:47):
We might need some help atcornerback.
So that was the only thing thatI could come up with.
Like, how are we going tobenefit this team?
And I said, JMO for sauce.
You're the last flyer fetchthough, because I don't, you
know, I think you might find apretty good amount of people
that might, you know, be okaywith that trade.
yeah.
From the Lions perspective, Idon't think the Jets want Sauce

(04:07):
to go, No I think if you askLions fans, if we were able to
trade, first year true, true.
first year.
So you might see a little bit,but I have a feeling he's going
to have a pretty good year underAaron Glenn.
I don't know.
Does sauce like go up in the rungame?
Cause that's one thing that Ihad read that maybe he hasn't as
involved, you know, in stoppingthe run game.

(04:29):
And Aaron Glenn's going todefinitely require him to get
his nose in there for sure.
Right, right.
Yeah, that's our ridiculoustrades that we proposed.
There was, you know, when wewere, I had written this up
yesterday.
Let's just talk about this.
And then today get released thatMiles Garrett asked for a trade,
which obviously all Lions fansare going to be in when they

(04:51):
hear the name.
Miles Garrett.
We were really interested whenwe needed some help during the
season, get end up getting histeammates, the Darius Smith and
said, and Cooper cup is looks tobecome available on the trade
market.
So any of those, are youinterested in either of those
players?
In regard to a That you'd haveonce you get him here.

(05:13):
I mean I don't know if you'regiving up two first rounds, then
you're just going all in nextseason.
You've got miles, Garrett andHutch.
That's tough.
I, you know, that's a toss upfor me about whether I would do
that or not, but the historythat we have with the draft and
being able to build from within, especially when you get these
rookies on the rookie deals andyou know, they're able to

(05:35):
perform right away, the road,Brad Holmes drafts.
I don't know if we can give uptwo firsts like that, but it
would be intriguing.
As far as Cooper cup goes, Idon't know exactly what they're
going to be asking for him.
He's also a good player andsomebody that I would
definitely, you know, welcome onthe lions team, but same thing.
Who are you really giving up forthat?
And is that worth it?
And I don't think it would befor Cooper Cuff.

(05:58):
No, I don't think they'll add.
I mean, I'd love to have Coopercup just in a vacuum.
Would you like to have him onyour team?
Yes.
First of all who's he replacingin the lineup?
don't know who he would replace.
You know, you're not going totake Amin Ra off the field.
Dude.
JMO is different than CooperCup.
Are you going to take him offthe field?

(06:20):
Yeah.
Okay.
You kind of would have aninteresting situation where all
three of them, well, I guess notquite as much with JMO, but
really, I mean, you'd be able totake all three of them and you'd
be able to put them in any kindof position that you want.
You could shuffle them around.
They're not guaranteed to be onthe outside or slot.
You could throw a lot ofdifferent looks out there with
those three.
Yeah.
You definitely could.
I just don't think you're goingto get as much benefit with our

(06:43):
roster of having Cooper cup.
Miles Garrett.
Yeah.
What I, if I don't want thetrade because of what you said,
the cost, it's going to probablycost a minimum two first
rounders, right?
Plus either a player or, youknow, more draft picks.
I just don't think they're goingto let them go for anything less
than that.
They've are on the record thatthey don't want to trade them.
Now that could be just.

(07:03):
We're going to try to get theprice as high as possible from
the Browns, or, you know, theyactually don't want to trade
them.
I, if that happened and we gotthem, would I have a miles gear
Jersey?
Probably, cause that would beamazing.
However, I think at the longtermof the team, it's, you're not
going to be able to, it's goingto delay signing Hutch or

(07:27):
changing.
You know, that money's, it'sgoing to be hard to line up.
So I just don't see, I justdon't see us being in the market
for a trade there.
I, but what, you know, the samething with Max, if we got him,
I'd be, I would have a MaxCrosby Jersey.
That would be awesome.
But I just, from what it's goingto cost, those edge players

(07:48):
aren't cheap.
They are next to a quarterback.
They're one of the hardestpositions to get on your team.
And once you have them, youdon't let those players go, at
least not for cheap.
Absolutely.
So sorry, Lions fans.
I don't think Miles Garrett, you're going to see him in the
Honolulu blue next year, butstranger things have What?

(08:10):
How amazing would it be if wecould?
Yep.
All right, Jacob, this week,ESPN released their top 50 free
agent lists for the NFL.
some of these players may thefranchise tag.
This is, you know, this listcould change definitely by time
mid March when free agencyactually happens.
Let's start with first let'sstart with outside the lines,

(08:32):
NFC North free agents.
Do you want to go through theplayers in that top 50 list that
involved NFC North.
Yeah.
So this is obviously it's ESPN'srankings.
This is nothing that we came upwith.
This was just how they have itlined out based on who are the
free agents this year.
So the top NFC North free agent, they have Sam Darnold.
Is ranked number six.

(08:53):
Cam Robinson, the Minnesotaoffensive tackles ranked 14.
Byron Murphy, the Vikingscornerback, is ranked 20.
Then we have Cam Bynum,Minnesota safety, number 29.
Aaron Jones, Minnesota runningback, 33.
Tevin Jenkins, the Bears guard,is ranked number 41.
And then you've got KeenanAllen, the Bears wide receiver,

(09:15):
at 49.
So a lot of Vikings on thislist.
Yeah, the top, what, the firstfive players are Vikings, and
then the last two are Chicago.
I don't see any Green Bayplayers on there, so they don't
have and they're not going tolose anything from their team,
at least as in the top 50 foragent look any of them.
I mean, that's pretty big forMinnesota and if it's offense,

(09:39):
half of it's defense and youcould say a Sam Darnold that big
of a loss, he did get a lot ofstats for them.
I mean, I know he collapsed atthe end of the year, you know,
they're going to still have toreplace that.
Can JJ McCarthy do it?
Who knows?
Yeah.
I mean, that's a lot of keypieces that they're going to
have to try to put back on thatteam.

(09:59):
It'll be interesting aboutKeenan Allen, you know, if he
decides to resign now that BenJohnson's over there, will that,
you know, will he want to resignto be a part of that offense?
And then, you know, Chicago'soffensive line wasn't that great
to begin with, and now, youknow, they got a guard, a free
agent, so we'll see if they lethim go.

(10:20):
There were two lions on thislist of the top 50 number 23 was
Carlton Davis number 35 on thelist was Kevin Seidler.
Will the lions re sign eitherone of those, Jacob?
I think they absolutely aregoing to be putting calls in and
making attempts to resign bothof them.

(10:41):
I guess I would think morelikely they would resign.
I think Ziegler would be easierto get a deal done than Carlton.
I'll put it like that.
I think Carlton Davis playedvery well last year.
You know, he's going to have amarket.
So.
Maybe he's looking for a littlemore money, you know, who knows?
I, I want both of them back.
And I definitely think that BradHolmes is going to be trying to

(11:02):
get both of them back.
It's just going to be, you know,a money issue in my opinion.
How do you feel Yeah, I'm rightthere with you.
I think I think Kevin Seidler,if the lines want him back, I
could see him definitely back.
He signed a pretty modest deallast year.
He's one year older.
very productive for lines.
I would love to have him back.

(11:23):
And so I think that, you know,as long as he enjoyed his time
here, I could see him justgetting re signed, having Hank
Frehley come back, Probablyhelps that, you know, continuity
there.
Davis is going to be an expenseissue.
And I know the line's got somedead cap money because of, you
know, restructuring his deallast year.
So they might be able to playwith that and be able to help

(11:44):
Carol Carlton out and, help ourcap situation out.
But it just depends on what he'sgoing to be able to get on the
free market, you know, AaronGlenn, our buddy, the old
defensive coordinators over thejets, you know, maybe he wants
Carlton over there, you know, who knows where in the jets?
You have some pretty goodcorners right now, but right.

(12:06):
You know, but they do have goodcorners, but it's again, you got
to play a certain way for AaronGlenn.
And if you're not willing toplay that way, you're not going
to be there.
I don't know enough about theircorners.
We already talked a little bitabout Sauce.
Who's the other one?
Reed?
Is it Reed Yeah.
DJ Reed.
Yeah, Reed's their other corner.
I don't really, I don't watchenough Jets football to know how

(12:28):
they play.
Yeah.
I can't really speak on theirtackling abilities either.
And you know, who knows, butpeople are going to be a lot.
And if you're looking for a goodcorner, Carlton Davis is a good
corner.
He played really good coveragethe lions before he got injured.
And yeah, I would, I like tohave him back.
Yeah.
I just don't know with all theplayers that we got to resign,

(12:50):
Kirby's going to be looking fora big deal this off season,
possibly obviously Aiden is thebiggest one on this list.
Are we going to have money to goaround or are we going to.
You know, either try to draftsomeone or we're going to hope
that maybe a meek plays theoutside and rake straw goes into
the slot or we sign another slotcorner, we got options, but

(13:11):
yeah, what I like to haveCarlton Davis back again, yes,
it's just a matter of cost andwhat he can get elsewhere.
For sure.
Yeah.
So on this top 50 list, Jacob, was there any players that you
saw that, Hey, you'd beinterested in the lions looking
at you know, definitely there'ssome good players on here.

(13:32):
I mean, if we start, though, with just as far as like what,
what positions they're going totarget or where they're looking,
because, you know, the positionsof need, you'd say guard edge
rusher.
We need another corner.
And this all depends right therewith Sightler and Carlton Davis,
because if we resign those guys,we can probably afford to throw
a little more money at an edgedefender.
Maybe, you know.

(13:53):
Ideally, these are pieces thatwe build in the draft.
But if we're looking at thesetop guys, you know, if Carlton
signs elsewhere, there's acouple other corners on this
list.
I don't know, you know, forsure.
But Traveris Ward doesn't likeyou know, once you get out of
San Fran, I think that would bea good player that we could get
in here.
Byron Murphy, the corner out ofMinnesota, be kind of nice

(14:13):
stealing him.
Yeah.
you know, it's two birds, onestone and they don't have him.
We have him.
You know, there's also if you'retalking about another wide
receiver.
Obviously I do not want tooverpay for T Higgins or
something like that, but youknow, further down that list,
Darius Slayton from New York, you know, talking about stealing
from NFC North, if KeenanAllen's looking for a place to

(14:33):
win now and wants to, you know, take kind of a more of a veteran
deal if the price is right.
I don't think that's going tohappen, but you know, those are
the two options to get anotherwide receiver in here too,
because we do need more widereceiver depth.
I just think that's probablymore likely going to be built in
the draft.
What are you thinking though?
Who on that list is catchingyour eye?
So if we don't get Zyler, I'mlooking at the guards that are

(14:55):
on that list.
You know, you got Zack Martinfor the Cowboys, number 21 on
the list.
We'll freeze the guard forIndianapolis.
would be good guys, but thosethey're Zack Martin, maybe on a
one year deal.
He's getting kind of olderbreaking down a little bit.
So I could see He might be thesame age as Aitler.
yeah.
And.

(15:15):
You know, you're kind of, ifyou're the Lions, you're
probably looking for a stop gapdeal and letting your, you know,
mahogany develop a little bitmore depending on what you plan
on doing with Graham and allthat stuff.
Got James Daniels, a guard outof Pittsburgh that's on that
list.
And we talked about the Chicagoguard, Tevin Jenkins.
So there's a fair amount ofguards in that top 50 list that

(15:36):
you could look at if we want to.
You know, go outside the draft.
I know the lines usually liketo, you know, build the lines in
the draft and look for likestopgap help.
I still want to overwrite any ofthese.
I'd rather just get Zeidler backhere and You know, you're, I
don't know if we talked about itat work or if we talked about it
on the podcast, you know, Grahamslipped a little bit, you got

(15:59):
Mahogany, say Mahogany jumpsGraham, and you still have Zyler
over there, you know, Graham's agood top backup, he's starting
level backup to have, play allthree of those interior
positions, so that would begood.
The edge players are just goingto be are just going to be
probably too expensive.
I think Clio max is probablygoing to get more than.
Then what we're going to be ableto afford to play for an edge

(16:20):
player on the opposite of Hutch.
Would I love to have Khalil Mackjust for a season or two out
there?
Yeah, and then you let Zadariusgo.
The other one, Hassan Reddick, not interested in Hassan
Reddick.
I don't think, I don't thinkBrad Holmes would be either.
Who else is in there?

(16:40):
No the name that was stickingout to me, so like, ideally,
let's say we were able to getZeitler, we're able to get
Carlton back, you know JoshSweat from the Eagles is out
there, But he actually, I thinkthis was just today that I saw
this, that he signed with a newagent with Drew Rosen.
So then that right away is adead giveaway that this, you

(17:01):
know, they're getting a maxcontract for this guy.
Like, you know, that's topdollar for sure.
Which is weird timing that theSuperbowl is coming up and
you're, you know, I don't knowif you make a, like meetings
with agents or whatever, youknow, like it just seems really
weird, but he's already lookingahead past the Superbowl.
He's looking to get paid.
So now he's out in my book too.
that far after the Super Bowl, though, you know, it's like No,

(17:23):
into it there, you know, theygot to take care of themselves
too.
they Mack obviously would begreat, like in that scenario
too, but is he going to besomebody that's out there, you
know, for 60 70 percent of theplays or is he somebody that's
going to want sort of like a VonMiller deal where he's you know,
out there in pass rushsituations?
Because I don't know we canafford to have another guy

(17:45):
that's not going to be outthere, you know, every down for
us.
yeah opposite of hutch.
I mean, it's a lot, it's been arotation, so it Right.
I just don't see us spending anymoney Exactly.
It's been a rotation, but that'snot been a rotation with
somebody that you're paying 1520 million dollars a year.
Okay.

(18:17):
pretty good three there.
And then whoever's on theoutside, so Darius is signed,
but he's definitely a cutcandidate just because of the
dead money attached to it, orthey could resign him for a
cheaper deal.
But it's an areas generally whenit comes to that.
Signs, he doesn't he'll justleave and try to, you know, he's
going to sign for the mostmoney.

(18:38):
So I'm not convinced as theDarius is going to be back.
But it's a possibility.
Yeah, I don't know if anybody, Ithink another thing that we're
going to look for Jacob ispossibly a linebacker, depending
on what Derek Barnes you know, and I don't know Malcolm
hopefully, but he was injured atThanksgiving.
Hopefully he could be back forthe start of the season, just
depends on how he progresseswith that injury.

(18:59):
I could see us getting somelinebacker depth this year.
Drake Greenlaw is out there, andI really like him, obviously,
you know, there's that injuryhistory, so we don't know, yeah,
but that might but yeah, you'reright, a veteran linebacker
would be Yeah.
I think we're going to have toget someone, I don't know if
it's going to be in this top 50list, but there are a fair

(19:21):
amount in there.
I would like to get some morelinebacker depth because just
even if we Yeah, Derek Barnes,we just going to need some extra
depth in there and our newdefensive coordinator will be,
you know, all about gettinglinebacker depth.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
Yeah, I don't know.
Is there any other positions?

(19:41):
I mean, we talked about guard, edge, wide receiver, linebacker,
were there any other positionsthat you think the Lions are
going to target in free agency?
Yeah, I don't really think so.
I mean, you look at our rostertop down.
I mean, in free agency in thedraft, it's, you know, building
from the trenches.
You've got the line offensiveline depth, defensive line

(20:03):
depth, and then, you know, corner wide receiver, like you
said, maybe linebacker.
I saw in one of the, I don'tremember what it was, but it was
like positions of need and theylisted running back.
I was like, of all teams, theNFL, why would we need, you
know, I think we're the most setat running back We got Craig out
there.
Craig could be resigned, youknow, Ben Johnson want to steal

(20:25):
him over in Chicago?
I could see him wanting to dothat, but then you're hoping
that Vaki developed enough thathe could take over the Craig
Reynolds role.
I mean, Craig Reynolds outsidedidn't play that much.
I mean, he was good on specialteams, but he didn't play it
that much outside untilMontgomery got hurt.
You know, would Vaki just takeover that role if, I mean,

(20:47):
They're not going to be willingto pay Craig a ton of money.
I mean, I a doubt.
Craig's asking for a ton ofmoney, but you're right.
If Chicago's offering a moremoney and maybe a little bit
bigger of a role, maybe he triesto do that, but yeah.
For like running back to aposition of need, it's just not.
I don't see us picking up arunning like maybe if Craig does
sign elsewhere, maybe we lookyou know, to try to pick up some

(21:09):
more running back for depth.
I know Jamar Jefferson did notsign a futures contract, I
believe.
So he's probably on his way out,but that's somebody else that's
just looking for an opportunityand it showed some flashes that
he's just not going to get here.
So I don't, you know, there'snot gonna be any splash with the
running backs for us.
No, I don't think so.
I mean, you could see a lateround draft pick or something if

(21:30):
they catch Brad Holmes eyes, butthey tend to spend Maybe, but
right.
And there's just other, othermore.
Other more important positionsthat we're looking at.
I mean, and you're right.
Cornerback depend on what we dowith Carlton.
I think we're going to have to,you know, cause we're Vildor and
Dorsey are both free agents, andDorsey, I mean, had that really

(21:54):
bad injury.
Yeah, even know how, you know, that, that was more severe than
Hutch's injury.
So I don't know, what his ifhe's going to be able to return
on right.
The timeline.
Yeah.
with a Meeks injury, that was anarm.
You know, those are easier torecover from, and you also be
able to stay in shape and allthat, because you're not

(22:16):
rehabbing your leg andrelearning how to walk and run
and all that stuff.
But I don't know, I, we have areally strong roster, everyone,
you know, that listens to thisknows that, or let's be reminded
of that we had.
lot of injuries.
So even if we don't sign, youknow, a lot of free agents,
getting some of those playersback, like Hutches, like the

(22:37):
hugest free agent signing, adding him back Roughly right.
it's we've kind of forgot whatit's like to have him on the
field.
Which will be a real pleasantsurprise to be able to get some
pressure with just four guys, some real pressure Those were
the days.
they were at the days.
Oh man.
Let's look at Jacob.

(22:58):
Let's look at you know, theplayers that we got last year
and free agents.
Jacob made the list.
We put players on there.
Just quickly go through theplayers and we'll talk about
them.
And, you know, whether that wearen't I don't Jacob and I talk
about this.
We don't want to grade thesepicks.
I think that's pretty arbitrary, but you know, was it a success
or not a success?

(23:18):
So we can talk about it in that, into that term.
So first player was MarcusDavenport and we had Amik
Robertson, DJ reader, Kyle Peko,Kevin Seidler, Carlton Davis.
We got in a trade and then JakeBates free agent pickup.
So.
Which one, Jacob, out of those, the ones that seven I just
listed, which one was our mostvaluable?

(23:40):
Do you think that we got lastyear?
You know, I guess if I had topick one just out of those, I
would say Carlton Davis justbecause cornerback was such a
huge position of need last yearcoming into this year and we
weren't entirely sure what wewere going to get with him if he
was going to, you know, if hewas going to be able to hold it
down and cover wide receiverones consistently.

(24:01):
And he absolutely stepped up tothe challenge, you know, before
he got that injury.
So there are a couple of guys onthis list that are definitely
that were positive pickups.
But I, yeah.
I would say Carlton was the mostvaluable.
What about you?
If you had to pick one guy, notCarlton.
I yeah, I can't pick Carlton,huh?
There's some good, I mean, they're all, this list is a

(24:22):
really good list when you mean, outside of Davenport had the
injury.
So, you know, you'd have to kindof say that's a push or that's a
fail just because he wasn't outthere.
Paco also had an injury onlyplayed in five games.
So then that one's, you know, kind of down, but outside of
those two, everybody else wereimpact players.
I mean, they all played apositive role on the team.

(24:42):
Yeah.
I'd say with Peko too, I mean, you're signing him because of we
did the DJ reader injury.
We had, you know, they were thatwhat they're hedging their bets,
whether DJ reader was going tobe ready for the beginning of
the year.
So I really think that one'skind of thrown out for me,
Marcus Davenport, you'refiguring on him getting injured,

(25:02):
just maybe not two games intothe season, but.
Yeah.
I mean, you kind of knew thatgoing in there, other ones man,
you could make an argument,Jacob, for any of these guys
that are left Right, right.
You know, a meet came up huge, especially that last week.
He was good all year.
And then, you know, playingJustin Jefferson, the way he did

(25:24):
DJ readers kind of unsung justbecause of what he doesn't get a
ton of stats.
We just, before all ourlinebackers got injured, he was
just.
You know, clogging up the lineand letting the linebackers do
their work.
So he kind of got neutralized.
I think when the linebackers gothurt, Zyler played really well.

(25:44):
And I guess if I have to go withany of these guys, I'm going to
go with Zyler just because thetrenches are where we're built,
you know, strong running game.
Protected Jerry golf.
He was able to do it all and tocome in and step in and play
with the other four guys thathave been together.

(26:04):
He came in and just.
You know, did his thing.
So I'd say Zyler was, would beon there.
Jake Bates though had some gamewinners too.
I mean, you could make anargument that Jake Bates came in
once he had the full trust ofDan Campbell.
Cause like week two at Tampa, weopted.

(26:24):
The punt one, instead of kickinglike a 50 some yard field goal,
which that could have been thedifference in that game later in
the season.
Dan Campbell kicks that insteadof punts, you know, Jake Bates,
you know, came through and whatMinnesota, he had a game winner
and he hit the game winner withHouston.
There's yeah.
I mean, he.
Here's another game that, Oh,and then Green Bay to the week

(26:47):
after Thanksgiving hit the gamewith effort.
We went forward on fourth down.
was clutch.
And having that kicking gamestabilized is great.
And then that looks forward tothe next year.
And then also the great story ofJake Bates, you know, playing
for the Michigan Panthers inFord Field and then come back.
So I guess Kevin Zeidler wouldbe my pick.

(27:08):
Although I think you can makethe argument for Jake Bates or
Meek Roberts and just as well.
And a DJ reader was solid.
I not you know, definitelyreally happy that we got DJ
reader for another year.
Right.
I mean, that's why it's such adifficult question because
really they all, I mean, Zylerwas a good pick.
He was our highest rated pickupin pro football focus.

(27:28):
Like out of these guys, he wasranked highest.
He only missed one game, youknow, despite that was kind of a
thing, his age, his durabilityand everything.
We weren't sure.
And he, you know, he definitelystepped up, but yeah, all these
guys, all these guys stepped up.
I mean, Brad Holmes knows whathe's doing, I guess, huh?
Yeah, exactly.
It doesn't make, I have to makethe hugest splash and sign the

(27:50):
number one free agent on thelist.
These guys were hugecontributors and, you know,
Marcus Davenport, I just wrote,if he could have played he
looked menacing in those gamesthat he did play.
And I'm sure that's the way he'slooked at all his stops where
he's had, where he's looksmenacing.
He is incredibly powerful.
His bull rush is much unmatchedin the NFL.
He could just push anybody overand he just had that freak

(28:12):
injury.
But, you know, he's had a lot ofinjuries.
I don't see us resigning him,but if his price goes down and,
you know, he doesn't signanywhere else, you know, we
could give him another world.
You just have to know that maybeyou're only going to get four or
five games out of them before hegets injured.
Right, yeah, if we're going tobring him back, which I
definitely, I would be open tobringing him back also, but you

(28:34):
definitely have to drop those, the contract and you have to
think he had, was it fullyguaranteed or it was mostly
guaranteed or something like,no, I think it 5 million or
something like that.
You know, I don't think, I mean,for an edge rusher, that's
actually fairly reasonable as,But how many games has he played
his entire career right?
Exactly.

(28:54):
We've got two games, so it wasthree and three million a game
or whatever.
Two games this year, four gamesthe year before that for
Minnesota.
Yeah.
No.
Minnesota got them for theamount of games that we Yeah so
you had a question on here.
If you could only retain one ofthese players for next year, say
they were all unsigned becauseyou know, Meek DJ and Bates are

(29:15):
all going to be on the team nextyear outside of them getting
surprisingly cut, which isn'tgoing to happen because they're
all got signed for goodcontracts.
Who would you bring back?
you had to just pick one ofthese guys, is it going to be
your Carlton Davis that youthink I think I'm still gonna
stick with CD.
Right, right.
I think I'm still gonna pickhim.
I mean, like we already said, these other guys are really

(29:37):
valuable, but if we're, if we'rejust, in this scenario, we're
picking one of these guys, therest of them have to leave.
Like, the rest were going foranother team.
I guess I would, I'm gonna leaveit at CD, but that also makes it
pretty close to me for DJReader, just because I don't
want to lose him either.
I don't lose any of these guys.
I'm glad that, you know, Amikand DJ, Jake Bates, they're all
signed.
This is just hypothetical, butYeah.

(29:59):
Maybe that's why I'm picking CDis because he might be a actual
reality that he's not going tobe there.
Yeah.
We talked about Zydler.
Yeah.
I don't think I'd want to loseDJ reader in the middle.
Especially if Aleem is going tobe out for a little, I would, I.
Yeah.
think I'm going to go with DJReader, I guess, if I had to
pick one out of all those guysYeah.
losing CD is going to be tough, but you're hoping you get a jump

(30:21):
for Tarion, right?
And then, like we Rick Straw.
you know, does Amik go to theoutside or Rakestraw go you
know, into the slot?
You get, we got some pieces thatcan move around.
You know, we could also signsome death pieces and see how
that goes.
Rake straw is going to be a bigplayer that I'm going to look
for in this off season, right?
I mean, we didn't get to see himmuch on the field.

(30:43):
It's some injury risks orinjuries, you know, hamstrings,
which is terrible for cornersand just take a long time to
come back from.
So I think we're all going tohave our eyes on rake straw to
see, you know, where the linesafety fits and, you know, has.
Has he grown, is he making asecond year jump, even though he
didn't get a lot of reps in the, during this season?

(31:05):
Right.
A lot of mental reps, hopefully.
Yeah, But you know, that'ssomebody that a lot of mocks had
him in the first round and wegot him in the second.
So we still hope for good thingsfrom him.
yes, we do.
Definitely.
And I, yeah, I definitelyhaven't written him off.
We would have liked to see morefrom a second round pick sure.
But I don't, Jacob, we'retalking about this.

(31:27):
I read somewhere and I couldn'tfind the article that rake straw
said that he was going to startgame two in the slot before he
got And that was a Tampa Baygame.
Rake straw was like a late.
inactive that he pulled ahamstring during practice, but
rake straw said that he was toldhe was going to start in the
slot that game that if that'strue, crazy.

(31:51):
Cause that means they had a lotof confidence in him and the
hamstring really just, you know, knocked him out for the whole
season.
That would give me confidencegoing into next year.
Yeah, it does.
You know, it's a, it was aSports Illustrated article and
he says that he was going tohave an opportunity to play the
Tampa Bay week, he was going tobe starting nickel and he got
hurt in warmups and it was asetback.

(32:11):
Yeah.
Yeah.
So When tough.
That floored me a little bit.
I was like, wow.
You know, they were going to putthem out there and how, you
know, you wonder how the seasonwould have been a little
different, but then who are theygoing to set a meek?
That seems weird that they wouldset a meek in week two.
I just can't see that.
You know, maybe that was earlyon.
So I don't know.
Maybe there, maybe that's partof the competition continuing

(32:34):
into the season.
Right?
Like maybe, you know, he'splaying really well, which we'll
sell a racetrack and trainingcamp.
He actually looked really good.
You know, so maybe they justneed more time.
They're going to let, let himstart and let them see what
happens.
Unfortunately, that's not theway it played out.
No.
So that'll be an interestingdevelopment for next year where
they're going to do it.
And if he was going to startnickel, that would definitely

(32:54):
give credence to pushing a meekto the outside.
A meek showed he could do itlast year.
Anyone that could hold justJefferson to 57 yards in, I
mean, in essentially a playoffgame, right?
I mean, I know it was the end ofthe regular season, but that was
for all intents and purposes, that was a playoff game you're
going for, you know.
one seed and getting that firstround by you know, what it gave

(33:15):
Sam Darnold another week to lookterrible, I guess.
Anything else you want to add onany of these players that that
we just talked about Jacob, Ithink we, you know, had a
positive off season last year.
So I want to kind of justrevisit the players that we lost
last off season and we cancompare how good we had it, I
guess.

(33:37):
you want to go through thoseplayers or you want me Yeah, let
me, I'll run through them realquick.
Just got a couple little factsabout each one.
The most notable one, I guess, for us was Josh Reynolds.
We lost Josh Reynolds.
He ended up signing a two yeardeal with Denver.
He played five games with theBroncos.
He scored one touchdown and wascut by the Broncos and claimed
by the Jaguars.
So he played a total of ninegames between two teams this

(33:58):
year.
He had one touchdown.
So not the way Josh Reynoldsenvisioned the season going.
Jonah Jackson, the offensivelineman, signed a three year, 51
million deal with the Rams.
As a result, we were able to getZeitler.
Jonah actually started thecenter week one in the game
against us.
He was injured in week two.
He was all the way out untilweek 10 and then they benched

(34:19):
him for week 11.
So then he ended up playinglater in the season, and he only
played four total gamesthroughout that, you know, last
season.
The other big one, I guess youwould say, was C.
J.
Gardner Johnson.
a three year deal with theEagles.
He played in 16 games forPhiladelphia, and he only played
in three games for us.
And he had a really good year.

(34:40):
3rd in the league with 6interceptions, 5th in past
breakups.
him, rated him 76, which is the21st ranked safety.
Turns out our safety is ratedmuch higher than that.
So, you know.
But he's getting ready to startin the Super Bowl for the
Eagles.
So, you know, that stings alittle bit there too.
Two other notable defensivebacks that we lost or chose not

(35:01):
to re sign.
Tracy Walker.
He signed with the 49ers after, you know, we chose not to sign
him.
He did not make the roster.
He spent time on the 49erspractice squad.
But he did not play in a singlegame this year.
And he played in 17 games for usthe previous season.
So that shows what kind of depthand everything we were in.
And also.
You know, just Tracy Walker, Iguess not quite cutting it

(35:23):
anymore.
Somebody that I did like, though, I like Tracy Walker.
It just was somebody that'slike, you're just not not quite
there.
The last one, Cam Sutton wasunder contract with us, but he
was released after he had thewhole arrest warrant and
everything.
Signed a one year deal with theSteelers.
He was suspended eight games bythe NFL.
He ended up playing in ninegames total.

(35:44):
Only two of those were starts.
And his pro football focus gradewas fifty three point five,
which ranked him one hundred andsixty ninth out of two hundred
and twenty three.
So, I guess top down you look atit, did Brad Holmes, in your
opinion, do you think BradHolmes, did we miss on any of
these guys?
The only one that I think couldhave fit on the scene at any

(36:04):
point would be Josh Reynolds.
And I think he would have had abetter season.
He was, I mean, I, you didn'tmention it in your little
summary there, but he was shotduring the middle of the season.
right.
you know, I'm not going to getinto all that, but then that was
the reason why he only playedthe five games and then he got I
think he had a different injurythough, right?
Like he got injured and then hegot shot while he was already

(36:25):
out.
Yeah, something like that,right?
I mean, all that just, you know, and Should have been rehabbing.
right?
Yeah, exactly.
Then he, you know, the Jaguarssurprisingly picked up his
contract, you know, and he mightend up doing good last year.
like Tim Patrick in the JoshReynolds role.
I think the only thing I thinkwould have been differences

(36:45):
earlier in the season before youknow, we lost.
Tampa Bay.
I think we have Josh Reynolds inthat game.
It might play out a little bitdifferent.
Just jerk off might be morecomfortable than he was with Tim
Patrick at that moment.
I remember Tim Patrick made awrong, it looked like he ran a
wrong route at some point andjerk off through a really bad
interception.
Josh Reynolds probably doesn'tdo that in that game.

(37:08):
I mean, That's the only one thatI could see miss.
I didn't.
CJ, like you mentioned, CJGardner Johnson, good player.
I, you know, he's like one ofthose guys that if he's on your
team, you can get behind him,but you just can't stand him
when he's on the other teambecause his mouth is always
talking.
We had really good safety playthis year.
So did we miss CJ Gardner?

(37:29):
Probably not.
And CJ would not have been happyhere playing less snaps.
We would have had, you know, hecould have played, you know,
the, if he roll, cause Exactlywhat I was going to say, You
could say that, but he wasn'ttoo happy last year when he came
back for the playoffs and therewas three players playing, you
know, three safeties playing youknow, he didn't come here to.

(37:50):
Play like that is what he saidlast year.
Jonah, that we didn't resignhim.
He was injured before I don'tthink the Rams did him any
favors, moving him to center andall that, you know, whatever
they did, but yeah, that was a.
Brad Holmes read the tea leaveson that by moving on from Jonah
Jackson, you know, cam Sutton, that's a no brainer.

(38:13):
You know, he can't do what hedid and still be on the scene.
Even what he did was despicableor accused of doing was
despicable.
But then his play last year wasdespicable as well.
So I, you know, we rid ourselvesof that.
And Tracy, again, we don't needany extra safety help, but.
I like Tracy as a person, butever since he got injured, he

(38:35):
just was never the same playerafter that.
And, you know, he, the NFLthinks the same thing too,
because he didn't a snap thisyear.
right?
I mean, when I'm looking, Idefinitely agree that Josh
Reynolds would have been thebest to keep on the team.
And we kind of talked about thatall off season, right?
Like who's going to step intothis role, who's going to be,

(38:57):
and it ends up being TimPatrick, but you know.
Not as soon as we would haveliked it to be.
He also was a late addition intraining camp and everything
too, so You know, it just wouldhave I think that would have
made that our team better And Ithink that would have made Josh
Reynolds season better, youknow, he started off, you know I
think two seasons ago.
I don't have the numbers infront of me, but he had a pretty

(39:17):
good year last year He increasedon pretty much all of his
numbers And then you would hopewith that trajectory that this
year he's going to do evenbetter and, you know, you know,
get even more targets in the redzone and everything.
And he, you know, he decided tosign elsewhere.
Other than that, I, I think wemade the right decision on
pretty much every single one ofthese guys.
CJ is a good player.
Would have been nice to havehim, but, you know, we've got

(39:40):
Iffy.
We don't know that if he's goingto go through the injury and,
you know, we had already signedCJ the year before and he only
played three games, Yep.
know, so he wasn't available.
I'm happy that we moved on, itturned out well for us, but I
think that Jonah probably wouldhave benefited the most from
staying put in Detroit.
You know, Zytler wouldn't havebeen here, he would have been
able to continue on his playlast year.

(40:03):
I just think we upgraded, and Imean that was really, I think it
was his doing, right?
I feel like there was a contractoffer, like the Lions wanted to
keep him, but he wanted moremoney and went to the Rams.
Yeah, I don't know if the, he, Imean, the lions weren't going to
sign him for 17 million a year,No.
you know, at some point, youknow, you want a strong line
play, but he was injured thatlast year with the lions a lot

(40:25):
and his play was not worth 17million.
And.
You know, Brian Holmes just madethe right move.
I think Jonah, I think you'reright.
He probably has a better seasonif he's with the lions, if he
stays healthy, we'll see if he'sa player that can't stay healthy
the last two seasons.
He's missed starts, miss sizableamount of time.

(40:46):
Know, we'll see, you know, he'snot aligned anymore, so I guess
I don't care as much, but Yeah,right.
You know, you hope good thingsfor him, But you talk about all
the players that we signed andhow much of an impact that they
made, and then you talk aboutthe players that we did not sign
or that we let go, and it reallylooks like you know, we came out
on top, basically, on almost allof these.
yes, I'll say on all of them, because the only one that you

(41:07):
could have made a case for wouldhave been CJ, and Brian Branch
and Kirby Joseph both graded outhigher and both played better
this year.
yeah, I mean, you've saved moneybecause you, we weren't going to
sign CJ for a three year deal,Right.
but you look like Kirby did hisjob, led the league of
interceptions, Brian branch, they still were moving him

(41:28):
around just because of theinjuries, we did get to play him
at safety.
As much as the lions probablywanted.
I will be interested with Glenngone, what we're going to, you
know, where Brian's going toplay next year.
Cause I did, I liked him atsafety, but I also really like
him close to the line.
Cause he is.

(41:48):
in that position.
He's just a, such a smartplayer.
He gets tackles for loss onrunning backs.
And when you're closer to theline, it seems like he has more
opportunity for that.
So I'll be interested how theyuse Brian next year.
How Calvin Shepard uses Brian.
next year.
Definitely.
All right, let's move on to thethe pro bowl games.

(42:11):
Like I said, in the intro, we'renot going to dwell on this.
is what it is.
Golf wins MVP, you know, whatever that means, but it's
good to see our guy get somerecognition and Jameer Gibbs
gets an interception, Jacob, aninterception in this game.
The guy could do it all.
Yeah, It would have been a picksix too, for anybody watching,

(42:32):
they you know, the players fromthe sideline all ran out to
prevent him from scoring.
This is not any sort ofcompetitive game.
This, you know, obviouslythere's a little bit of
competition just because, youknow, they're NFL players, but
they're out there having a goodtime.
It's not, they don't care whowins or loses.
No.
So I don't know if you, I didn'twatch a lot on Sunday.

(42:53):
I was watching, I think theRedman Pistons, Pistons playing.
I was watching that game, whatever Detroit.
Yeah, it was the They bothplayed.
yeah, I was watching the Pistonsplay instead of the Bowl games,
but I did watch Thursday nightwith my boys.
That was the quarterbackchallenge.
They had the spike contest.
They had the relay race, theyhad some other games, so it got

(43:13):
me thinking, Jacob, if you couldmake an event for the Pro Bowl
games, what, did you have anyideas of what event you would
come up with?
I have four, so I'll let youstart first.
I have a couple of them, but Ithink the one that would be very
cool you know, they had like therelay race kind of thing, but,
you know, in the NBA for the AllStar, they have a skills
challenge, which is, it's likean obstacle course you know,

(43:36):
they start with the ball, it'spassing, dribbling, shooting,
you know, they got to run up anddown the court, I think that you
do that and have like all, youknow, you'll have players of all
positions compete, so it'd besomething, if you're making it
similar to NBA, you have like, you know, you start the ball,
You have to complete a 10 yardpass, then after you make that
pass, then it's like a 40 yardsprint through like tackling

(43:57):
dummies or obstacles orwhatever.
And then you could have like youknow, they had the long snap
thing where you got to snap itagainst the wall.
Can you imagine like golf orGibbs or somebody's got to snap
the ball at a target like 5 or10 yards away.
And then after you hit that, youeither like, you know, maybe you
have to make another pass orlike the timer stops when you
hit like a field goal.
Like at the end, you got to takelike a 20 yard field goal or

(44:17):
whatever.
But, you know, we got like, youknow, Frank Wagner or, you know,
you just got other people, otherpositions doing stuff like that.
I think that would be fun.
I like it.
I like when you get people outof their comfort zone and doing
things and they're just doing itfor fun.
I like that idea.
That's fun.
I liked the one on Thursdaynight, they had the QB
competition.
They were just thrown at themovie targets.

(44:38):
I liked that.
I remember the competitions whenI was younger, they would, when
they were in Hawaii, they wouldhave this thing where they
basically had a golf cart with abasket and it would just go out
and the quarterback had to throwit in the basket.
So I'd add something like thatto the game.
You know, you could have themoon shot in there.
Russell Wilson would, you know, would have probably done really
good in a, an event like that.

(44:59):
So I'd add that in one thingthat you mentioned that the NBA,
like the Doug contest, I wantvote, but I want a quarterback
wide receiver, combination andthey have to throw like some toe
taps, like in the back of theend zone or wide receiver has
got to make some amazing catchand you vote on it.
So like something like that, oryou could throw it off the field
goal post and you know, got tocatch it off that anything you

(45:22):
could think of, I, like a votingthing would be fun.
Did you see?
So they did one.
I don't know if that was lastyear, what year was, but I'm in
raw one, but it was like theytried to make like the dunk
thing, but it was just, youknow, creative catching.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So that was cool.
I think you would add thequarterback of the wide receiver
and just try to do And make adifficult catch instead of just,

(45:44):
you know, a front flip orwhatever they were doing.
Yeah.
Yeah, agreed.
one thing that I would do, andthis just wouldn't have to be
with Pro Bowl players.
They need to bring the fastestman competition where they got
these players racing.
Cause I would love to see DKTyreek and Jamo.
I'd love to see those guys justa track meet and just seeing
them go as fast as they can.

(46:05):
No.
No.
Right?
Yeah, they did a relay race, butthat's not the same.
You're right.
They need to have just, youknow, they can have different
heats of like four players andyou got somebody in the final.
They did something like thatbefore, but Yeah, they yeah,
they they used to do that likeback in the day, they just had
the fastest fan competition andI wouldn't limit it to whoever
was made the pro bowl becauseI'd want, Well, those are the

(46:27):
guys that are there.
Well, you know, when it was inHawaii or Miami, Oh, And then my
last one that I come up with wasa field goal competition, but
then instead of like just tryingto make the field goals, like
you get points for trying to hitthe post on purpose, right?
And you could get more pointshitting the post or and if it
went in, you would get an extrapoint or if it bounces out, you

(46:48):
wouldn't.
you might get some points forjust hitting the post.
So I, I just think somethinglike that.
Or you could have it where youhave a skinnier post.
Like it's not the regulationsize.
Like they're really thin and youOh yeah.
for, or you have like multipleposts.
Like you would get so much ifyou're in the.
In the outer post, but then youget bonus points for hitting it

(47:09):
down the middle more, so Likethe Madden Madden training camp
field goal back in like MaddenOh four.
Yeah.
Something like that.
I could see that.
So anything like that, I thinkthose games are like, that'd be
fun.
Cause I, I think I would justeven really get rid of the flag
football game and just have moreof these mini games, like man
and mini games, like what youjust said, I think that those

(47:30):
are just more fun.
Right.
Did you have any more or the,did I tap you out?
No.
Yeah.
I mean, I also thought what ifthey just did like, you know,
obviously it's not football, butif you did a three point
contest, just like NBA all starweek, and you do a three point
contest, that's something thatthey would be.
I know the football playerswould be highly competitive at
that.
They're going to be talkingtrash.

(47:51):
They're going to be trying theirbest, trying to make these three
points and everything.
So that would be cool.
Also, you know, like when you'reyoung, you're playing jackpot,
so, you know, you throw the ballup and then it's like You don't
have to necessarily have itworth a little value or
whatever, but you could havethem have a quarterback throw it
up, have a punter kick the ball, like maybe you have like you
know, Jameer Gibbs on one side, then you got Amun Ra on the

(48:14):
other or whatever, you got apunter that punts the ball
towards the end zone, theybasically have to race to the
ball and try to see who gets theball first and downs it.
I like that.
That's Something else to showspeed and also a little bit of
chance, a little bit of skillbecause you're trying to play
the ball because these are, youknow, none of these players are
gunners, none of these guys dothat on a regular basis.
I think even you said a threepoint cut, that's just having

(48:37):
them play basketball.
Having a three on three orsomething Someone who would get
hurt.
I know.
That's the thing about, like, yeah, it'd be competitive for
sure.
Yeah, linemen just post you upor something like that.
Oh my god, just Shaquille O'Nealyou to the rim.
So yeah I don't really get superhyped up for these Pro Bowl

(48:58):
games.
I do like that they've taken itaway from trying to make it a
real game where you're tacklingpeople because The players
weren't into it.
It wasn't fun flag football isdefinitely more fun, but I liked
these mini games.
I really enjoyed watching itwith my boys.
I don't know if they weren'taround, if I would watch, if I'd
have spent time watching it, butit was fun, fun watching it with

(49:19):
my kids.
I did the quarterback challengecause golf kick but.
yeah, right.
No, that's just fun to watch, though.
Yeah.
And it's better that youmentioned it, but it's better
now that they have, like, thedigital scoreboards and stuff
and the moving things.
Because I remember, you know, when I was a little watching,
they would have that footballand the ball was, like, dipped
in chalk and they would throw itat the targets and have to see
if the chalk hit.

(49:42):
Oh, yes.
That's a long time ago.
I was like Phillip Rivers andPeyton Manning and Hey, Manny.
I remember Brett Favre.
They had the long throw concompetition.
yeah, right.
yeah, that would, that'd besweet to see.
I'd like to see something likethat again.
All right, Jacob, let's move onto a real game here.
Super Bowl.
It's coming up.
On Sunday, don't think either ofus are really looking forward to

(50:04):
watching either of these twoteams play.
Of course, I'll be watching thegame.
So let's do a couple of ourpredictions here.
Chiefs are favored by a pointand a half.
You got to pick, you got to pickon this chiefs Eagles.
Yeah, I mean, I really, I don'tcare for either of these teams.
We talked about it brieflybefore, but it's kind of a toss

(50:26):
up for me as far as like who Iwant to win.
I don't think I'm rooting oneway or another.
I think Saquon deserves this,Quinion Mitchell from Toledo.
I feel like the Eagles are goingto get it done, but I see, I go
back and forth, even me sayingit out loud.
It's like, no, I don't want thatto happen, but it's like, well,
do I want the Chiefs to threepeat?
I don't know if I want thateither.
I don't want the chiefs torepeat, but I also, I feel like

(50:51):
if they repeat, then it's over.
And then they're like, they'renot going to go, you know, that
could LC retires.
Half the players probably goelsewhere.
I, if it ends the chiefs likereign of terror here, then I'm
I'll take that if for somereason, you know, not that we're
going to know this, but I'm justsaying that I would take that.
I would just, you know, be donewith the chiefs, let Josh Allen

(51:14):
get a turn, let Lamar Jacksonget a turn and the super bowl
and we'll see, I don't know.
Let's see if I want to pick, II'm going with the Eagles too.
I Yeah.
I think the Eagles defense isgoing to be a little too much
for the Chiefs, but we'll see.

(51:34):
Who knows?
We'll see what the boys in thestripes say during this game,
because that'll be a hugetalking point.
Oh yeah, no matter what.
Yep.
All right.
The next thing I want you topredict Jacob over under it's it
was when I looked at thisyesterday was 48 and a half.
So that's what we're going to gowith over under and 48 and a
half.
I'm going to say under, I'mgoing to say exactly 48.

(51:56):
Oh, exactly 40 even call thatout.
I mean, now I'm going to have toPeople are going to be sweating.
People betting on this game aregoing to be sweating.
If they're betting the over orthe under, because that's going
to be sitting right at 48.
Yeah, I'm going to go.
I'm going to go the under to theChiefs somehow are trying to
come back in the last they don'tget to touch on it sits.
It sits at the under so I don'tknow.

(52:16):
I'm not going to predict a pointtotal, but yeah, I'm going to
say it goes to the under Youabout wrote the script right
there, because that's what, that's probably what's going to
happen.
They get the ball, they're like, can my homes do it again?
They drive down, they go for iton fourth and long, they don't
get it.
There's the late flag.
Illegal contact or something, they get another shot.
History repeats itself.

(52:38):
No, but does Mahomes get likethe diving throw that he had in
the Super Bowl versus Tampa Baywhere he's you know, fully you
know, parallel with the groundand he throws that dart and hits
his receiver rate in the facemask and he drops it.
You know, maybe he'll completeit this time.
That'd be the story.
Yeah, I think we're done seeingthat.
Yeah.
All right.
My last thing that I want you topredict is over under on the

(53:00):
tush push in the game.
And three and a half.
You think we're going to seeJalen Hurtsu at, you know, three
and under or more than threetimes you think it's going to
happen in the game?
I'm gonna say over.
But does this, just for thatformation, or this is the actual
act of Hertz getting pushed likethat?
Do feel like they're gonna lineup and they're gonna try
something.

(53:21):
try something different becauseyou got Chris Jones hovering
over the Right.
I, I can sense that.
I mean, they're definitely, they're gonna do two or three.
It's going to happen a coupletimes.
I mean, I guess I'm going to sayover, but I do think that
there's going to be some sort oftrickery involved.
Maybe they line up on third andone on a chance where they know,
like, hey, if this, if thisdoesn't go our way, we can just

(53:43):
try it again on fourth.
I'm fourth.
Yeah.
Cause I mean, they'll do it.
Like I've seen them on you know, third and two, they'll just do
the tush push.
And if they don't get it,they'll just run it another
time.
Exactly.
two and you know, half the downscan be a tush push.
So I think it's going to be overtoo.
I don't know how to fix thatplay.

(54:03):
Like I think it's a boring play.
I think it's really hard to stopbut you know, no one seems to be
able to do it like the Eagles beable to do it.
You looked at Josh Allen gotstopped, but they didn't push
him at all.
They just thought Josh Allen wasgoing to push forward, I mean,
when you've got Jalen Hurts cansquat like 500 pounds, you've
got two tight ends and you'rerunning back and Saquon also can

(54:25):
probably squat 500 pounds.
So that's, you know, probably2000 pounds of pressure coming
at you.
And when you're the defense, youcan't, you can't move.
Well, you saw what thecommanders, how many times they
jumped off sides, they almostawarded them a touchdown.
Anyway, Yeah.
you just can't, I mean, youcan't stop it.
You can't stop that much forcecoming at you when you're not
allowed to move until they'vealready snapped and started

(54:46):
moving forward.
You know, you talked about allthose people be able to squat,
you would David Montgomery takethe snap and be able to do it
because he could squat like 700.
So you know, you could just putDavid Montgomery do it.
You see a lot of teams now, youknow, put their tight end in
motion like they did with Tuckercraft.
Green Bay does it.
I've seen it where they puttheir, you know, a player in
motion and that player justtakes a snap and push forward.

(55:08):
That's more of a trick play.
You know, you're trying to Causeguard.
Jordan love is a dainty littlegirl and can't do it himself.
Oh man, you know, maybe They putin 55 protect the, they spent
too much money.
They can't have them gettinghurt.
Caleb Williams can't do it.
Cause he might mess up hisnails.
Yeah.
He might break his nails.
Do you think Ben Johnson'spaints his nails this year?

(55:32):
Oh man, Oh that would beterrible.
yeah, I just, you know.
I think he always said somethingabout, you know, you know, just
being an offense that wasn'ttailored for him.
And I started to get a pit in mystomach.
I'm like, I just don't want BenJohnson over there, you know,
developing offense for this guy.

(55:54):
You know, I don't want them tobe any more successful than they
are Right.
this year.
Just very unlikable.
Yeah, I know, you know, we'rehoping that, you know, I don't
want to root against Ben Johnsonbecause actually, I mean, he did
such good things with the Lions, but I also think a lot of it's

(56:16):
Dan Campbell and now DanCampbell's not, you know, not
with Ben Johnson.
So it's going to be, I guesswe're going to find out.
we're going to find out, youknow, and, uh, find out real
quick.
It'll be interesting.
I think the NFC North is goingto be a lot different next year.
we'll see.
I.
I think we're going to have funtalking with our, you know, a
reef and you know, Harrisonabout, you know, the bears and

(56:38):
getting dusty on and it'll be, Igot to know Dusty's thought on
Jordan Love.
Like I know that he's kind ofmore Homer ish, I think.
And I think he'll be all aboutJordan, but from the outside
looking in scary, I'd be scaredif I was a Packers fan.
That's what we kind of asked himduring the season and he, he
stood behind it.
He was okay with it.
So Yeah.

(56:59):
we'll see what contracts comeout.
If any, you know, I just, youknow, it doesn't make sense to
me, but you know, good.
Yeah.
No, They overpaid.
They overpaid and then they'regoing to, you know, not be able
to get, be, will they get widereceivers for their quarterback?
Cause they just kept ignoring itfor you know, Aaron Rogers and

(57:21):
Rumors, rumors are that DevanteAdams wants to come back to
Green Bay, Yeah, I just don'tknow.
go ahead and pay him just asmuch as he's wanting.
And then it still is not goingto turn out for you.
No, I, you know, Jordan Lovestill has to throw it off his
back foot and Yeah.
you know, but I, I don't wantDevante Adams going back there.

(57:42):
I just don't want any moretalented players going, you
know, go sink, go into thisdivision, but it wouldn't freak
me out if he went there.
I don't think that transformedthem very much.
He's better than anyone they gotthere though, but.
You know, he's getting oldertoo.
Does Right.
I don't think that would turnout very well.
He might have a good yearbecause they're going to be
feeding him targets.

(58:03):
Yeah, right.
Does the Taco Bell move?
Like it's already moved fromGreen Bay to Vegas.
And then now I had to go to NewYork.
Does he get another Taco Bell inhis house and the one in Green
Bay?
Just get the same one back, right?
Yeah, that guy.
I mean, that one employee inthere.
I mean, I hope he's getting paidmore minimum wage to move Yeah.
all these houses for Devante.
His private Taco Bell chef.

(58:23):
Yeah, exactly.
Asked me, he's is this real?
Does he really have a Taco Bellin his house?
I was like, no Preston, it is,it's a commercial.
watched that receiver show,right?
Did he watch that with you?
He watched like the first coupleepisodes, but Okay.
the whole Well, because there'sa part where they show Devante
Adams go to the Taco Bellheadquarters and like he gets to
try out all the food and stuffbefore they release it.

(58:44):
Yeah.
That'd be a pretty sweet deal.
Yeah, right.
Although I only get the JJ lovesTaco Bell.
Bell.
I get tacos.
That's all I get is crunchytacos.
That's all I ever get.
J.
J.
has to, like, any time it'slike, let's just get something
while we're out, he wants TacoBell.
Every day of the week.
Like no.
so expensive, man.
It used to be so cheap, but nowit's Crazy expensive.

(59:07):
I don't get it.
Right?
easiest, it's the cheapest thingto put together.
Yeah.
corn shell, a little sliver ofmeat and lettuce and cheese.
It's crazy.
still costs some 89 cents tomake it, but they're gonna
charge you 3 for a taco.
know that's insane.
all right.
We've devolved into talkingabout Taco Bell.
So I think it's time for us tohead out here.

(59:29):
Jacob, it's always great talkinglions with you.
Got a big game on Sunday andthen, you know, the season just
going to start rolling.
You know, we're going to be in afree agent talk and then draft
talk will be coming and that'llbe good.
I've been looking at mock draftsit's still very early, but I've
been looking at them.
And so we'll get into that asthe season progress off season
progresses here.

(59:50):
For sure.
I've been looking at the SeniorBowl, I'm looking at prospects.
Yeah, I know.
Got anybody out your eye onright now?
I do.
But I actually, you know, Idon't know if it was Pride of
Detroit that mocked him to us,Mike Green, the edge defender
out of Marshall.
Okay.
I don't remember if I showed youthat.
I was gonna try to show you thatat work when he ran over that.
Oregon offensive tackle at thesenior bowl practice, but No,

(01:00:13):
you didn't show he was like youknow I don't know if marshall is
the sun belt or what divisionthey are But he was like player
of the year all kinds ofaccolades smaller edge rusher
right now End of the first orsecond round so he's gonna fall
right where we need him to Yeah,we'll see.
Ed Rushers tend to, depends onwhat they do in the combine.
If they do Exactly they shoot upreal fast.

(01:00:35):
Who knows?
But Brad Holmes has shown if helikes someone, he will move up
in that draft.
Gotta pay attention.
if we still have those picks andwe haven't gotten rid of them
for miles garrett Not going tohappen.
Yeah, so yeah, but you couldn't,I mean the line where the lines
are picking at the end of thefirst round too.
I, you know, I just can't seeit.

(01:00:58):
it makes it a little easier tolet go right?
Yeah, it'd be easier to let gofor us, but if you're, you know,
you're never going to be able toget anywhere at the Miles
Garrett's level at that end ofthe draft most part, I mean
there are Max Crosby got in thefourth round I mean those
players happen, but MilesGarrett's a freak.
He's you right one of the fewCrazy good at rushers.

(01:01:23):
So out there, TJ watt, you know, our guy Hutch up there too.
All right, some of this talk forlater on.
So for Jacob, I'm Jason.
Let's go lions.
